Diffusion Approximation for Transport Equations with Dissipative Drifts

We study stochastic differential equations(SDEs) with a small perturbation parameter. Under the dissipative condition on the drift coefficient and the local Lipschitz condition on the drift and diffusion coefficients we prove the existence and uniqueness result for the perturbed SDE, also the convergence result for the solution of the perturbed system to the solution of the unperturbed system when the perturbation parameter approaches zero.We consider the application of the above-mentioned results to the Cauchy problem and the transport equations.

Markov dynamics on the cone of discrete Radon measures

We start with a brief overview of the known facts about the spaces of discrete Radon measures those may be considered as generalizations of configuration spaces. Then we study three Markov dynamics on the spaces of discrete Radon measures: analogues of the contact model, of the Bolker--Dieckmann--Law--Pacala model, and of the Glauber-type dynamics. We show how the results obtained previously for the configuration spaces can be modified for the case of the spaces of discrete Radon measures.

Stirling operators in spatial combinatorics

We define and study a spatial (infinite-dimensional) counterpart of Stirling numbers. In classical combinatorics, the Pochhammer symbol $(m)_n$ can be extended from a natural number $m\in\mathbb N$ to the falling factorials $(z)_n=z(z-1)\dotsm (z-n+1)$ of an argument $z$ from $\mathbb F=\mathbb R\text{ or }\mathbb C$, and Stirling numbers of the first and second kinds are the coefficients of the expansions of $(z)_n$ through $z^k$, $k\leq n$ and vice versa. When taking into account spatial positions of elements in a locally compact Polish space $X$, we replace $\mathbb N$ by the space of configurations -- discrete Radon measures $γ=\sum_iδ_{x_i}$ on $X$, where $δ_{x_i}$ is the Dirac measure with mass at $x_i$.The spatial falling factorials $(γ)_n:=\sum_{i_1}\sum_{i_2\ne i_1}\dotsm\sum_{i_n\ne i_1,\dots, i_n\ne i_{n-1}}δ_{(x_{i_1},x_{i_2},\dots,x_{i_n})}$ can be naturally extended to mappings $M^{(1)}(X)\niω\mapsto (ω)_n\in M^{(n)}(X)$, where $M^{(n)}(X)$ denotes the space of $\mathbb F$-valued, symmetric (for $n\ge2$) Radon measures on $X^n$. There is a natural duality between $M^{(n)}(X)$ and the space $\mathcal {CF}^{(n)}(X)$ of $\mathbb F$-valued, symmetric continuous functions on $X^n$ with compact support. The Stirling operators of the first and second kind, $\mathbf{s}(n,k)$ and $\mathbf{S}(n,k)$, are linear operators, acting between spaces $\mathcal {CF}^{(n)}(X)$ and $\mathcal {CF}^{(k)}(X)$ such that their dual operators, acting from $M^{(k)}(X)$ into $M^{(n)}(X)$, satisfy $(ω)_n=\sum_{k=1}^n\mathbf{s}(n,k)^*ω^{\otimes k}$ and $ω^{\otimes n}=\sum_{k=1}^n\mathbf{S}(n,k)^*(ω)_k$, respectively. We derive combinatorial properties of the Stirling operators, present their connections with a generalization of the Poisson point process and with the Wick ordering under the canonical commutation relations.

Asymptotic behaviour and functional limit theorems for a time changed Wiener process

We study the asymptotic behaviour of a properly normalized time changed Wiener processes. The time change reflects the fact that we consider the Laplace operator (which generates a Wiener process) multiplied by a possibly degenerate state-space dependent intensity $λ(x)$. Applying a functional limit theorem for the superposition of stochastic processes, we prove functional limit theorems for the normalized time changed Wiener process. The normalization depends on the asymptotic behaviour of the intensity function $λ$. One of the possible limits is a skew Brownian motion.

Ground States for Nonlocal Schrödinger Type Operators on Locally Compact Abelian Groups

We find classes of nonlocal operators of Schrödinger type on a locally compact noncompact Abelian group $G$, for which there exists a ground state. In particular, such a result is obtained for the case where the principal part of our operator generates a recurrent random walk. Explicit conditions for the existence of a ground state are obtained for the case $G =\mathbb Q_p^n$ where $\mathbb Q_p$ is the field of $p$-adic numbers.

Lattice birth-and-death processes

Lattice birth-and-death Markov dynamics of particle systems with spins from the set of non-negative integers are constructed as unique solutions to certain stochastic equations. Pathwise uniqueness, strong existence, Markov property and joint uniqueness in law are proven, and a martingale characterization of the process is given. Sufficient conditions for the existence of an invariant distribution are formulated in terms of Lyapunov functions. We apply obtained results to discrete analogs of the Bolker--Pacala--Dieckmann--Law model and an aggregation model.

Random potentials for Markov processes

The paper is devoted to the integral functionals $\int_0^\infty f(X_t)\,{\mathrm{d}t}$ of Markov processes in $\X$ in the case $d\ge 3$. It is established that such functionals can be presented as the integrals $\int_{\X} f(y) \G(x, \mathrm{d}y, ω)$ with vector valued random measure $\G(x, \mathrm{d}y, ω)$. Some examples such as compound Poisson processes, Brownian motion and diffusions are considered.

Random Time Dynamical Systems I: General Structures

In this paper we introduce the concept of random time changes in dynamical systems. The subordination principle may be applied to study the long time behavior of the random time systems. We show, under certain assumptions on the class of random time, that the subordinated system exhibits a slower time decay which is determined by the random time characteristics. In the path asymptotic a random time change is reflected in the new velocity of the resulting dynamics.

Representations of the Infinite-Dimensional $p$-Adic Affine Group

We introduce an infinite-dimensional $p$-adic affine group and construct its irreducible unitary representation. Our approach follows the one used by Vershik, Gelfand and Graev for the diffeomorphism group, but with modifications made necessary by the fact that the group does not act on the phase space. However it is possible to define its action on some classes of functions.

Random Time Change and Related Evolution Equations: Time Asymptotic Behavior

In this paper we investigate the long time behavior of solutions to fractional in time evolution equations which appear as results of random time changes in Markov processes. We consider inverse subordinators as random times and use the subordination principle for the solutions to forward Kolmogorov equations. The class of subordinators for which asymptotic analysis may be realized is described.

Sheffer homeomorphisms of spaces of entire functions in infinite dimensional analysis

For certain Sheffer sequences $(s_n)_{n=0}^\infty$ on $\mathbb C$, Grabiner (1988) proved that, for each $α\in[0,1]$, the corresponding Sheffer operator $z^n\mapsto s_n(z)$ extends to a linear self-homeomorphism of $\mathcal E^α_{\mathrm{min}}(\mathbb C)$, the Fréchet topological space of entire functions of order at most $α$ and minimal type (when the order is equal to $α>0$). In particular, every function $f\in \mathcal E^α_{\mathrm{min}}(\mathbb C)$ admits a unique decomposition $f(z)=\sum_{n=0}^\infty c_n s_n(z)$, and the series converges in the topology of $\mathcal E^α_{\mathrm{min}}(\mathbb C)$. Within the context of a complex nuclear space $Φ$ and its dual space $Φ'$, in this work we generalize Grabiner's result to the case of Sheffer operators corresponding to Sheffer sequences on $Φ'$. In particular, for $Φ=Φ'=\mathbb C^n$ with $n\ge2$, we obtain the multivariate extension of Grabiner's theorem. Furthermore, for an Appell sequence on a general co-nuclear space $Φ'$, we find a sufficient condition for the corresponding Sheffer operator to extend to a linear self-homeomorphism of $\mathcal E^α_{\mathrm{min}}(Φ')$ when $α>1$. The latter result is new even in the one-dimensional case.

Weak-coupling limit for ergodic environments

The main aim of this work is to establish an averaging principle for a wide class of interacting particle systems in the continuum. This principle is an important step in the analysis of Markov evolutions and is usually applied for the associated semigroups related to backward Kolmogorov equations, c.f. [Kur73]. Our approach is based on the study of forward Kolmogorov equations (a.k.a. Fokker- Planck equations). We describe a system evolving as a Markov process on the space of finite configurations, whereas its rates depend on the actual state of another (equilibrium) process on the space of locally finite configurations. We will show that ergodicity of the environment process implies the averaging principle for the solutions of the coupled Fokker-Planck equations.

From Random Times to Fractional Kinetics

In this paper we study the effect of the subordination by a general random time-change to the solution of a model on spatial ecology in terms of its evolution density. In particular on traveling waves for a non-local spatial logistic equation. We study the Cesaro limit of the subordinated dynamics in a number of particular cases related to the considered fractional derivative making use of the Karamata-Tauberian theorem.

Stochastic averaging principle for spatial Markov evolutions in the continuum

We study a spatial birth-and-death process on the phase space of locally finite configurations $Γ^+ \times Γ^-$ over $\mathbb{R}^d$. Dynamics is described by an non-equilibrium evolution of states obtained from the Fokker-Planck equation and associated with the Markov operator $L^+(γ^-) + \frac{1}{\varepsilon}L^-$, $\varepsilon > 0$. Here $L^-$ describes the environment process on $Γ^-$ and $L^+(γ^-)$ describes the system process on $Γ^+$, where $γ^-$ indicates that the corresponding birth-and-death rates depend on another locally finite configuration $γ^- \in Γ^-$. We prove that, for a certain class of birth-and-death rates, the corresponding Fokker-Planck equation is well-posed, i.e. there exists a unique evolution of states $μ_t^{\varepsilon}$ on $Γ^+ \times Γ^-$. Moreover, we give a sufficient condition such that the environment is ergodic with exponential rate. Let $μ_{\mathrm{inv}}$ be the invariant measure for the environment process on $Γ^-$. In the main part of this work we establish the stochastic averaging principle, i.e. we prove that the marginal of $μ_t^{\varepsilon}$ onto $Γ^+$ converges weakly to an evolution of states on $Γ^+$ associated with the averaged Markov birth-and-death operator $\overline{L} = \int_{Γ^-}L^+(γ^-)d μ_{\mathrm{inv}}(γ^-)$.

A quasispecies continuous contact model in a critical regime

We study a new non-equilibrium dynamical model: a marked continuous contact model in $d$-dimensional space ($d \ge 3$). We prove that for certain values of rates (the critical regime) this system has the one-parameter family of invariant measures labelled by the spatial density of particles. Then we prove that the process starting from the marked Poisson measure converges to one of these invariant measures. In contrast with the continuous contact model studied earlier in \cite{KKP}, now the spatial particle density is not a conserved quantity.

Evolution of states in a continuum migration model

The Markov evolution of states of a continuum migration model is studied. The model describes an infinite system of entities placed in $\mathds{R}^d$ in which the constituents appear (immigrate) with rate $b(x)$ and disappear, also due to competition. For this model, we prove the existence of the evolution of states $μ_0 \mapsto μ_t$ such that the moments $μ_t(N_Λ^n)$, $n\in \mathds{N}$, of the number of entities in compact $Λ\subset \mathds{R}^d$ remain bounded for all $t>0$. Under an additional condition, we prove that the density of entities and the second correlation function remain bounded globally in time.

Fractional statistical dynamics and fractional kinetics

We apply the subordination principle to construct kinetic fractional statistical dynamics in the continuum in terms of solutions to Vlasov-type hierarchies. As a by-product we obtain the evolution of the density of particles in the fractional kinetics in terms of a non-linear Vlasov-type kinetic equation. As an application we study the intermittency of the fractional mesoscopic dynamics.

On ground state of non local Schrodinger operators

We study a ground state of a non local Schrodinger operator associated with an evolution equation for the density of population in the stochastic contact model in continuum with inhomogeneous mortality rates. We found a new effect in this model, when even in the high dimensional case the existence of a small positive perturbation of a special form (so-called, small paradise) implies the appearance of the ground state. We consider the problem in the Banach space of bounded continuous functions $C_b (R^d)$ and in the Hilbert space $L^2(R^d)$.

A moment problem for random discrete measures

Let $X$ be a locally compact Polish space. A random measure on $X$ is a probability measure on the space of all (nonnegative) Radon measures on $X$. Denote by $\mathbb K(X)$ the cone of all Radon measures $η$ on $X$ which are of the form $η=\sum_{i}s_iδ_{x_i}$, where, for each $i$, $s_i>0$ and $δ_{x_i}$ is the Dirac measure at $x_i\in X$. A random discrete measure on $X$ is a probability measure on $\mathbb K(X)$. The main result of the paper states a necessary and sufficient condition (conditional upon a mild a priori bound) when a random measure $μ$ is also a random discrete measure. This condition is formulated solely in terms of moments of the random measure $μ$. Classical examples of random discrete measures are completely random measures and additive subordinators, however, the main result holds independently of any independence property. As a corollary, a characterisation via a moments is given when a random measure is a point process.

Cantor series expansions and packing dimension faithfulness

The paper is devoted to the development of general theory of packing measures and dimensions via introducing the notion of <<faithfulness of a packing family for $\dim_P$ calculation>> and the packing analogues of the Billingsley dimension. To this aim we study equivalent definitions of packing dimension and prove theorems which can be considered as packing analogues of the famous Billingsley's theorems. The main result of the paper gives necessary and sufficient condition for the packing dimension faithfulness of the family of cylinders generated by the Cantor series expansion. To the best of our knowledge this is the first known sharp condition of the packing dimension faithfulness for a class of packing families containing both faithful and non-faithful ones.

Laplace operators on the cone of Radon measures

We consider the infinite-dimensional Lie group $\mathfrak G$ which is the semidirect product of the group of compactly supported diffeomorphisms of a Riemannian manifold $X$ and the commutative multiplicative group of functions on $X$. The group $\mathfrak G$ naturally acts on the space $\mathbb M(X)$ of Radon measures on $X$. We would like to define a Laplace operator associated with a natural representation of $\mathfrak G$ in $L^2(\mathbb M(X),μ)$. Here $μ$ is assumed to be the law of a measure-valued Lévy process. A unitary representation of the group cannot be determined, since the measure $μ$ is not quasi-invariant with respect to the action of the group $\mathfrak G$. Consequently, operators of a representation of the Lie algebra and its universal enveloping algebra (in particular, a Laplace operator) are not defined. Nevertheless, we determine the Laplace operator by using a special property of the action of the group $\mathfrak G$ (a partial quasi-invariance). We further prove the essential self-adjointness of the Laplace operator. Finally, we explicitly construct a diffusion process on $\mathbb M(X)$ whose generator is the Laplace operator.

On new fractal phenomena connected with infinite linear IFS

We establish several new fractal and number theoretical phenomena connected with expansions which are generated by infinite linear iterated function systems. First of all we show that the systems $Φ$ of cylinders of generalized Lüroth expansions are, generally speaking, not faithful for the Hausdorff dimension calculation. Using Yuval Peres' approach, we prove sufficient conditions for the non-faithfulness of such families of cylinders. On the other hand, rather general sufficient conditions for the faithfulness of such covering systems are also found. As a corollary of our main results, we obtain the non-faithfullness of the family of cylinders generated by the classical Lüroth expansion. Possible infinite entropy of the stochastic vector $Q_\infty$ which determines the metric relations for partitions of the generalized Lüroth expansions, possible non-faithfulness of the family $Φ(Q_\infty)$ and the absence of general formulae for the calculation of the Hausdorff dimension even for probability measures with independent identically distributed symbols of generalized Lüroth expansions are all facts that do not allow to apply usual probabilistic methods, as well as methods of dynamical systems to study fractal properties of corresponding subsets of non-normal numbers. Despite of the above mentioned difficulties, we develop new approach to the study of subsets of $Q_\infty$-essentially non-normal numbers and prove (without any additional restrictions on the stochastic vector $Q_{\infty}$) that this set is superfractal. This result answers the open problem mentioned in \cite{AKNT2} and completes the metric, dimensional and topological classification of real numbers via the asymptotic behaviour of frequencies their digits in the generalized Lüroth expansion.

Phase Transitions in Continuum Ferromagnets with Unbounded Spins

States of thermal equilibrium of an infinite system of interacting particles in a Euclidean space are studied. The particles bear 'unbounded' spins with a given symmetric a priori distribution. The interaction between the particles is pairwise and splits into position-position and spin-spin parts. The position-position part is described by a superstable potential, and the spin-spin part is attractive and of finite range. Thermodynamic states of the system are defined as tempered Gibbs measures on the space of marked configurations. It is proved that the set of such measures contains at least two elements if the activity is big enough.

The Microscopic Dynamics of a Spatial Ecological Model

The evolution of states of a spatial ecological model is studied. The model describes an infinite population of point entities placed in $\mathbb{R}^d$ which reproduce themselves at distant points (disperse) and die with rate that includes a competition term. The system's states are probability measures on the space of configurations of entities, and their evolution is described by means of a hierarchical chain of equations for the corresponding correlation functions derived from the Fokker-Planck equation for measures. Under natural conditions imposed on the model parameters it is proved that the correlation functions evolve in a scale of Banach spaces in such a way that each correlation function corresponds to a unique sub-Poissonian state. Some further properties of the evolution of states constructed in this way are also described.

Traveling waves and long-time behavior in a doubly nonlocal Fisher-KPP equation

We consider a Fisher-KPP-type equation, where both diffusion and nonlinear part are nonlocal, with anisotropic probability kernels. Under minimal conditions on the coefficients, we prove existence, uniqueness, and uniform space-time boundedness of the positive solution. We investigate existence, uniqueness, and asymptotic behavior of monotone traveling waves for the equation. We also describe the existence and main properties of the front of propagation.

A Phase Transition in a Quenched Amorphous Ferromagnet

Quenched thermodynamic states of an amorphous ferromagnet are studied. The magnet is a countable collection of point particles chaotically distributed over $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\geq 2$. Each particle bears a real-valued spin with symmetric a priori distribution; the spin-spin interaction is pair-wise and attractive. Two spins are supposed to interact if they are neighbors in the graph defined by a homogeneous Poisson point process. For this model, we prove that with probability one: (a) quenched thermodynamic states exist; (b) they are multiple if the particle density (i.e., the intensity of the underlying point process) and the inverse temperature are big enough; (c) there exist multiple quenched thermodynamic states which depend on the realizations of the underlying point process in a measurable way.

Dynamical Widom-Rowlinson model and its mesoscopic limit

We consider the non-equilibrium dynamics for the Widom-Rowlinson model (without hard-core) in the continuum. The Lebowitz-Penrose-type scaling of the dynamics is studied and the system of the corresponding kinetic equations is derived. In the space-homogeneous case, the equilibrium points of this system are described. Their structure corresponds to the dynamical phase transition in the model. The bifurcation of the system is shown.

Gibbs States on Random Configurations

We study a class of Gibbs measures of classical particle spin systems with spin space $S=\mathbb{R}^{m}$ and unbounded pair interaction, living on a metric graph given by a typical realization $γ$ of a random point process in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$. Under certain conditions of growth of pair- and self-interaction potentials, we prove that the set $\mathcal{G}(S^γ)$ of all such Gibbs measures is not empty for almost all $γ$, and study support properties of $ν_γ\in \mathcal{G}(S^γ)$. Moreover we show the existence of measurable maps (selections) $γ\mapsto ν_γ$ and derive the corresponding averaged moment estimates.

Statistical dynamics of continuous systems: perturbative and approximative approaches

We discuss general concept of Markov statistical dynamics in the continuum. For a class of spatial birth-and-death models, we develop a perturbative technique for the construction of statistical dynamics. Particular examples of such systems are considered. For the case of Glauber type dynamics in the continuum we describe a Markov chain approximation approach that gives more detailed information about statistical evolution in this model.

The statistical dynamics of a spatial logistic model and the related kinetic equation

There is studied an infinite system of point entities in $\mathbb{R}^d$ which reproduce themselves and die, also due to competition. The system's states are probability measures on the space of configurations of entities. Their evolution is described by means of a BBGKY-type equation for the corresponding correlation (moment) functions. It is proved that: (a) these functions evolve on a bounded time interval and remain sub-Poissonian due to the competition; (b) in the Vlasov scaling limit they converge to the correlation functions of the time-dependent Poisson point field the density of which solves the kinetic equation obtained in the scaling limit from the equation for the correlation functions. A number of properties of the solutions of the kinetic equation are also established.

Density behavior of spatial birth-and-death stochastic evolution of mutating genotypes under selection rates

We consider birth-and-death stochastic evolution of genotypes with different lengths. The genotypes might mutate that provides a stochastic changing of lengthes by a free diffusion law. The birth and death rates are length dependent which corresponds to a selection effect. We study an asymptotic behavior of a density for an infinite collection of genotypes. The cases of space homogeneous and space heterogeneous densities are considered.

On an aggregation in birth-and-death stochastic dynamics

We consider birth and death stochastic dynamics of particle systems with attractive interaction. The heuristic generator of the dynamics has a constant birth rate and density dependent decreasing death rate. The corresponding statistical dynamics is constructed. Using the Vlasov type scaling we derive the limiting mesoscopic evolution and prove that this evolution propagates chaos. We study a non-linear non-local kinetic equation for the first correlation function (density of population). The existence of uniformly bounded solutions as well as solutions growing inside of a bounded domain and expanding in the space are shown. These solutions describe two regimes in the mesoscopic system: regulation and aggregation.

The independent and density dependent dispersion of spreading are studied. On the base of general methods of [14], we construct the state evolution of considered microscopic ecological systems. We analyze mesoscopic limit for stochastic dynamics under consideration. The corresponding Vlasov-type non-linear kinetic equations are derived and studied.

Gibbs states over the cone of discrete measures

We construct Gibbs perturbations of the Gamma process on $\mathbbm{R}^d$, which may be used in applications to model systems of densely distributed particles. First we propose a definition of Gibbs measures over the cone of discrete Radon measures on $\mathbbm{R}^d$ and then analyze conditions for their existence. Our approach works also for general Lévy processes instead of Gamma measures. To this end, we need only the assumption that the first two moments of the involved Lévy intensity measures are finite. Also uniform moment estimates for the Gibbs distributions are obtained, which are essential for the construction of related diffusions. Moreover, we prove a Mecke type characterization for the Gamma measures on the cone and an FKG inequality for them.

Kawasaki dynamics in continuum: micro- and mesoscopic descriptions

The dynamics of an infinite system of point particles in $\mathbb{R}^d$, which hop and interact with each other, is described at both micro- and mesoscopic levels. The states of the system are probability measures on the space of configurations of particles. For a bounded time interval $[0,T)$, the evolution of states $μ_0 \mapsto μ_t$ is shown to hold in a space of sub-Poissonian measures. This result is obtained by: (a) solving equations for correlation functions, which yields the evolution $k_0 \mapsto k_t$, $t\in [0,T)$, in a scale of Banach spaces; (b) proving that each $k_t$ is a correlation function for a unique measure $μ_t$. The mesoscopic theory is based on a Vlasov-type scaling, that yields a mean-field-like approximate description in terms of the particles' density which obeys a kinetic equation. The latter equation is rigorously derived from that for the correlation functions by the scaling procedure. We prove that the kinetic equation has a unique solution $\varrho_t$, $t\in [0,+\infty)$.

Markov Evolution of Continuum Particle Systems with Dispersion and Competition

We construct birth-and-death Markov evolution of states(distributions) of point particle systems in $\mathbb{R}^d$. In this evolution, particles reproduce themselves at distant points (disperse) and die under the influence of each other (compete). The main result is a statement that the corresponding correlation functions evolve in a scale of Banach spaces and remain sub-Poissonian, and hence no clustering occurs, if the dispersion is subordinate to the competition.

Stochastic evolution of a continuum particle system with dispersal and competition: micro- and mesoscopic description

A Markov evolution of a system of point particles in $\mathbb{R}^d$ is described at micro-and mesoscopic levels. The particles reproduce themselves at distant points (dispersal) and die, independently and under the influence of each other (competition). The microscopic description is based on an infinite chain of equations for correlation functions, similar to the BBGKY hierarchy used in the Hamiltonian dynamics of continuum particle systems. The mesoscopic description is based on a Vlasov-type kinetic equation for the particle's density obtained from the mentioned chain via a scaling procedure. The main conclusion of the microscopic theory is that the competition can prevent the system from clustering, which makes its description in terms of densities reasonable. A possible homogenization of the solutions to the kinetic equation in the long-time limit is also discussed.

Binary jumps in continuum. II. Non-equilibrium process and a Vlasov-type scaling limit

Let $Γ$ denote the space of all locally finite subsets (configurations) in $\mathbb R^d$. A stochastic dynamics of binary jumps in continuum is a Markov process on $Γ$ in which pairs of particles simultaneously hop over $\mathbb R^d$. We discuss a non-equilibrium dynamics of binary jumps. We prove the existence of an evolution of correlation functions on a finite time interval. We also show that a Vlasov-type mesoscopic scaling for such a dynamics leads to a generalized Boltzmann non-linear equation for the particle density.

Glauber Dynamics in Continuum: A Constructive Approach to Evolution of States

The evolutions of states is described corresponding to the Glauber dynamics of an infinite system of interacting particles in continuum. The description is conducted on both micro- and mesoscopic levels. The microscopic description is based on solving linear equations for correlation functions by means of an Ovsjannikov-type technique, which yields the evolution in a scale of Banach spaces. The mesoscopic description is performed by means of the Vlasov scaling, which yields a linear infinite chain of equations obtained from those for the correlation function. Its main peculiarity is that, for the initial correlation function of the inhomogeneous Poisson measure, the solution is the correlation function of such a measure with density which solves a nonlinear differential equation of convolution type.

Operator approach to Vlasov scaling for some models of spatial ecology

We consider Vlasov-type scaling for Markov evolution of birth-and-death type in continuum, which is based on a proper scaling of corresponding Markov generators and has an algorithmic realization in terms of related hierarchical chains of correlation functions equations. The existence of rescaled and limiting evolutions of correlation functions as well as convergence to the limiting evolution are shown. The obtained results enable to derive a non-linear Vlasov-type equation for the density of the limiting system.

Phase transitions and quantum effects in anharmonic crystals

The most important recent results in the theory of phase transitions and quantum effects in quantum anharmonic crystals are presented and discussed. In particular, necessary and sufficient conditions for a phase transition to occur at some temperature are given in the form of simple inequalities involving the interaction strength and the parameters describing a single oscillator. The main characteristic feature of the theory is that both mentioned phenomena are described in one and the same setting, in which thermodynamic phases of the model appear as probability measures on path spaces. Then the possibility of a phase transition to occur is related to the existence of multiple phases at the same values of the relevant parameters. Other definitions of phase transitions, based on the non-differentiability of the free energy density and on the appearance of ordering, are also discussed.

Semigroup approach to birth-and-death stochastic dynamics in continuum

We describe a general approach to the construction of a state evolution corresponding to the Markov generator of a spatial birth-and-death dynamics in $\mathbb{R}^d$. We present conditions on the birth-and-death intensities which are sufficient for the existence of an evolution as a strongly continuous semigroup in a proper Banach space of correlation functions satisfying the Ruelle bound. The convergence of a Vlasov-type scaling for the corresponding stochastic dynamics is considered.

Spectral gap for Glauber type dynamics for a special class of potentials

We consider an equilibrium birth and death type process for a particle system in infinite volume, the latter is described by the space of all locally finite point configurations on $\R^d$. These Glauber type dynamics are Markov processes constructed for pre-given reversible measures. A representation for the "carré du champ" and "second carré du champ" for the associate infinitesimal generators $L$ are calculated in infinite volume and a corresponding coercivity identity is derived. The latter is used to give explicit sufficient conditions for the appearance and bounds for the size of the spectral gap of $L$. These techniques are applied to Glauber dynamics associated to Gibbs measure and conditions are derived extending all previous known results. In the high temperature regime now potentials also with a non-trivial negative part can be treated. Furthermore, a special class of potentials is defined for which the size of the spectral gap is as least as large as for the free system and, surprisingly, is independent of the activity. This type of potentials should not show any phase transition for a given temperature at any activity.

Vlasov scaling for the Glauber dynamics in continuum

We consider Vlasov-type scaling for the Glauber dynamics in continuum with a positive integrable potential, and construct rescaled and limiting evolutions of correlation functions. Convergence to the limiting evolution for the positive density system in infinite volume is shown. Chaos preservation property of this evolution gives a possibility to derive a non-linear Vlasov-type equation for the particle density of the limiting system.

Gibbs measures of disordered lattice systems with unbounded spins

The Gibbs measures of a spin system on $Z^d$ with unbounded pair interactions $J_{xy} σ(x) σ(y)$ are studied. Here $\langle x, y \rangle \in E $, i.e. $x$ and $y$ are neighbors in $Z^d$. The intensities $J_{xy}$ and the spins $σ(x) , σ(y)$ are arbitrary real. To control their growth we introduce appropriate sets $J_q\subset R^E$ and $S_p\subset R^{Z^d}$ and prove that for every $J = (J_{xy}) \in J_q$: (a) the set of Gibbs measures $G_p(J)= \{μ: solves DLR, μ(S_p)=1\}$ is non-void and weakly compact; (b) each $μ\inG_p(J)$ obeys an integrability estimate, the same for all $μ$. Next we study the case where $J_q$ is equipped with a norm, with the Borel $σ$-field $B(J_q)$, and with a complete probability measure $ν$. We show that the set-valued map $J \mapsto G_p(J)$ is measurable and hence there exist measurable selections $J_q \ni J \mapsto μ(J) \in G_p(J)$, which are random Gibbs measures. We prove that the empirical distributions $N^{-1} \sum_{n=1}^N π_{Δ_n} (\cdot| J, ξ)$, obtained from the local conditional Gibbs measures $π_{Δ_n} (\cdot| J, ξ)$ and from exhausting sequences of $Δ_n \subset Z^d$, have $ν$-a.s. weak limits as $N\rightarrow +\infty$, which are random Gibbs measures. Similarly, we prove the existence of the $ν$-a.s. weak limits of the empirical metastates $N^{-1} \sum_{n=1}^N δ_{π_{Δ_n} (\cdot| J,ξ)}$, which are Aizenman-Wehr metastates. Finally, we prove the existence of the limiting thermodynamic pressure under some further conditions on $ν$.

Vlasov scaling for stochastic dynamics of continuous systems

We describe a general scheme of derivation of the Vlasov-type equations for Markov evolutions of particle systems in continuum. This scheme is based on a proper scaling of corresponding Markov generators and has an algorithmic realization in terms of related hierarchical chains of correlation functions equations. Several examples of the realization of the proposed approach in particular models are presented.

Regulation mechanisms in spatial stochastic development models

The aim of this paper is to analyze different regulation mechanisms in spatial continuous stochastic development models. We describe the density behavior for models with global mortality and local establishment rates. We prove that the local self-regulation via a competition mechanism (density dependent mortality) may suppress a unbounded growth of the averaged density if the competition kernel is superstable.

Differential Geometry on Compound Poisson Space

In this paper we carry out analysis and geometry for a class of infinite dimensional manifolds, namely, compound configuration spaces as a natural generalization of the work \cite{AKR97}. More precisely a differential geometry is constructed on the compound configuration space $Ω_{X}$ over a Riemannian manifold $X$. This geometry is obtained as a natural lifting of the Riemannian structure on $X$. In particular, the intrinsic gradient, divergence, and Laplace-Beltrami operator are constructed. Therefore the corresponding Dirichlet forms on $L^{2}(Ω_{X})$ can be defined. Each is shown to be associated with a diffusion process on $Ω_{X}$ (so called equilibrium process) which is nothing but the diffusion process on the simple configuration space $Γ_{X}$ together with corresponding marks. As another consequence of our results we obtain a representation of the Lie-algebra of compactly supported vector fields on $X$ on compound Poisson space. Finally generalizations to the case when the compound Poisson measure is replaced by a marked Poisson measure easily follow from this construction.
