Exact solution of the quantum integrable model associated with the twisted $D^{(2)}_3$ algebra

We generalize the nested off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method to study the quantum chain associated with the twisted $D^{(2)}_3$ algebra (or the $D^{(2)}_3$ model) with either periodic or integrable open boundary conditions. We obtain the intrinsic operator product identities among the fused transfer matrices and find a way to close the recursive fusion relations, which makes it possible to determinate eigenvalues of transfer matrices with an arbitrary anisotropic parameter $η$. Based on them, and the asymptotic behaviors and values at certain points, we construct eigenvalues of transfer matrices in terms of homogeneous $T-Q$ relations for the periodic case and inhomogeneous ones for the open case with some off-diagonal boundary reflections. The associated Bethe ansatz equations are also given. The method and results in this paper can be generalized to the $D^{(2)}_{n+1}$ model and other high rank integrable models.

Exact surface energy of the $D^{(1)}_2$ spin chain with generic non-diagonal boundary reflections

The exact solution of the $D^{(1)}_2$ quantum spin chain with generic non-diagonal boundary reflections is obtained. It is found that the generating functional of conserved quantities of the system can be factorized as the product of transfer matrices of two anisotropic $XXZ$ spin chains with open boundary conditions. By using the factorization identities and the fusion technique, the eigenvalues and the Bethe ansatz equations of the model are obtained. The eigenvalues are also parameterized by the zero roots of the transfer matrix, and the patterns of root distributions are obtained. Based on them, ground states energy and the surface energies induced by the twisted boundary magnetic fields in the thermodynamic limit are obtained. These results are checked by the numerical calculations. The corresponding isotropic limit is also discussed. The results given in this paper are the foundation to study the exact physical properties of high rank $D^{(1)}_{n}$ model by using the nested processes.

Hodge--Tate crystals on the logarithmic prismatic sites of semi-stable formal schemes

Let $\calO_K$ be a complete discrete valuation ring of mixed characteristic $(0,p)$ with a perfect residue field. In this paper, for a semi-stable $p$-adic formal scheme $\frakX$ over $\calO_K$ with rigid generic fibre $X$ and canonical log structure $\calM_{\frakX} = \calO_{\frakX}\cap\calO_X^{\times}$, we study Hodge--Tate crystals over the absolute logarithmic prismatic site $(\frakX,\calM_{\frakX})_{\Prism}$. As an application, we give an equivalence between the category of rational Hodge--Tate crystals on the absolute logarithmic prismatic site $(\frakX,\calM_{\frakX})_{\Prism}$ and the category of enhanced log Higgs bundles over $\frakX$, which leads to an inverse Simpson functor from the latter to the category of generalised representations on $X_{\proet}$.

Spectrum of the quantum integrable $D^{(2)}_2$ spin chain with generic boundary fields

Exact solution of the quantum integrable $D^{(2)}_2$ spin chain with generic integrable boundary fields is constructed. It is found that the transfer matrix of this model can be factorized as the product of those of two open staggered anisotropic XXZ spin chains. Based on this identity, the eigenvalues and Bethe ansatz equations of the $D^{(2)}_2$ model are derived via off-diagonal Bethe ansatz.

A representation basis for the quantum integrable spin chain associated with the su(3) algebra

An orthogonal basis of the Hilbert space for the quantum spin chain associated with the su(3) algebra is introduced. Such kind of basis could be treated as a nested generalization of separation of variables (SoV) basis for high-rank quantum integrable models. It is found that all the monodromy-matrix elements acting on a basis vector take simple forms. With the help of the basis, we construct eigenstates of the su(3) inhomogeneous spin torus (the trigonometric su(3) spin chain with antiperiodic boundary condition) from its spectrum obtained via the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz (ODBA). Based on small sites (i.e. N=2) check, it is conjectured that the homogeneous limit of the eigenstates exists, which gives rise to the corresponding eigenstates of the homogenous model.

Exact solution of an su(n) spin torus

The trigonometric su(n) spin chain with anti-periodic boundary condition (su(n) spin torus) is demonstrated to be Yang-Baxter integrable. Based on some intrinsic properties of the R-matrix, certain operator product identities of the transfer matrix are derived. These identities and the asymptotic behavior of the transfer matrix together allow us to obtain the exact eigenvalues in terms of an inhomogeneous T-Q relation via the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz.

Bethe states of the XXZ spin-1/2 chain with arbitrary boundary fields

Based on the inhomogeneous T-Q relation constructed via the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz, the Bethe-type eigenstates of the XXZ spin-1/2 chain with arbitrary boundary fields are constructed. It is found that by employing two sets of gauge transformations, proper generators and reference state for constructing Bethe vectors can be obtained respectively. Given an inhomogeneous T-Q relation for an eigenvalue, it is proven that the resulting Bethe state is an eigenstate of the transfer matrix, provided that the parameters of the generators satisfy the associated Bethe Ansatz equations.

Exact solution of the spin-s Heisenberg chain with generic non-diagonal boundaries

The off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method is generalized to the high spin integrable systems associated with the su(2) algebra by employing the spin-s isotropic Heisenberg chain model with generic integrable boundaries as an example. With the fusion techniques, certain closed operator identities for constructing the functional T-Q relations and the Bethe ansatz equations are derived. It is found that a variety of inhomogeneous T-Q relations obeying the operator product identities can be constructed. Numerical results for two-site s=1 case indicate that an arbitrary choice of the derived T-Q relations is enough to give the complete spectrum of the transfer matrix.

Exact solution of the XXZ alternating spin chain with generic non-diagonal boundaries

The integrable XXZ alternating spin chain with generic non-diagonal boundary terms specified by the most general non-diagonal K-matrices is studied via the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz method. Based on the intrinsic properties of the fused R-matrices and K-matrices, we obtain certain closed operator identities and conditions, which allow us to construct an inhomogeneous T-Q relation and the associated Bethe Ansatz equations accounting for the eigenvalues of the transfer matrix.

Off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz solution of the $τ_2$-model

The generic quantum $τ_2$-model (also known as Baxter-Bazhanov-Stroganov (BBS) model) with periodic boundary condition is studied via the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz method. The eigenvalues of the corresponding transfer matrix (solutions of the recursive functional relations in $τ_j$-hierarchy) with generic site-dependent inhomogeneity parameters are given in terms of an inhomogeneous T-Q relation with polynomial Q-functions. The associated Bethe Ansatz equations are obtained. Numerical solutions of the Bethe Ansatz equations for small number of sites indicate that the inhomogeneous T-Q relation does indeed give the complete spectrum.

On the complete-spectrum characterization of quantum integrable spin chains via the inhomogeneous T-Q relation

With the XXZ spin chains as examples, we prove two theorems: (1) the functional relations derived from the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz scheme are the sufficient and necessary conditions to characterize the complete spectrum of the corresponding transfer matrix; (2) each eigenvalue of the transfer matrix can be parameterized by a minimal inhomogeneous T-Q relation. These statements hold for both with and without inhomogeneity. The proof can be generalized to other finite-dimensional quantum integrable models.

Retrieve the Bethe states of quantum integrable models solved via off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz

Based on the inhomogeneous T-Q relation constructed via the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz, a systematic method for retrieving the Bethe-type eigenstates of integrable models without obvious reference state is developed by employing certain orthogonal basis of the Hilbert space. With the XXZ spin torus model and the open XXX spin-1/2 chain as examples, we show that for a given inhomogeneous T-Q relation and the associated Bethe Ansatz equations, the constructed Bethe-type eigenstate has a well-defined homogeneous limit.

Doublon-holon binding, Mott transition, and fractionalized antiferromagnet in the Hubbard model

We argue that the binding between doubly occupied (doublon) and empty (holon) sites governs the incoherent excitations and plays a key role in the Mott transition in strongly correlated Mott-Hubbard systems. We construct a new saddle point solution with doublon-holon binding in the Kotliar-Ruckenstein slave-boson functional integral formulation of the Hubbard model. On the half-filled honeycomb lattice and square lattice, the ground state is found to exhibit a continuous transition from the paramagnetic semimetal/metal to an antiferromagnetic ordered Slater insulator with coherent quasiparticles at $U_{c1}$, followed by a Mott transition into an electron-fractionalized AF$^*$ phase without coherent excitations at $U_{c2}$. Such a phase structure appears generic of bipartite lattices without frustration. We show that doublon-holon binding unites the three important ideas of strong correlation: the coherent quasiparticles, the incoherent Hubbard bands, and the deconfined Mott insulator.

Exact solution of the Izergin-Korepin model with general non-diagonal boundary terms

The Izergin-Korepin model with general non-diagonal boundary terms, a typical integrable model beyond A-type and without U(1)-symmetry, is studied via the off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method. Based on some intrinsic properties of the R-matrix and the K-matrices, certain operator product identities of the transfer matrix are obtained at some special points of the spectral parameter. These identities and the asymptotic behaviors of the transfer matrix together allow us to construct the inhomogeneous T-Q relation and the associated Bethe ansatz equations. In the diagonal boundary limit, the reduced results coincide exactly with those obtained via other methods.

Exact solution of the one-dimensional super-symmetric t-J model with unparallel boundary fields

The exact solution of the one-dimensional super-symmetric t-J model under generic integrable boundary conditions is obtained via the Bethe ansatz methods. With the coordinate Bethe ansatz, the corresponding R-matrix and K-matrices are derived for the second eigenvalue problem associated with spin degrees of freedom. It is found that the second eigenvalue problem can be transformed to that of the transfer matrix of the inhomogeneous XXX spin chain, which allows us to obtain the spectrum of the Hamiltonian and the associated Bethe ansatz equations by the off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method.

Nested off-diagonal Bethe ansatz and exact solutions of the su(n) spin chain with generic integrable boundaries

The nested off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method is proposed to diagonalize multi-component integrable models with generic integrable boundaries. As an example, the exact solutions of the su(n)-invariant spin chain model with both periodic and non-diagonal boundaries are derived by constructing the nested T-Q relations based on the operator product identities among the fused transfer matrices and the asymptotic behavior of the transfer matrices.

Spin-1/2 XYZ model revisit: general solutions via off-diagonal Bethe ansatz

The spin-1/2 XYZ model with both periodic and anti-periodic boundary conditions is studied via the off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method. The exact spectra of the Hamiltonians and the Bethe ansatz equations are derived by constructing the inhomogeneous T-Q relations, which allow us to treat both the even N (the number of lattice sites) and odd N cases simultaneously in an unified approach.

Thermodynamic limit and surface energy of the XXZ spin chain with arbitrary boundary fields

In two previous papers [26, 27], the exact solutions of the spin-1/2 chains with arbitrary boundary fields were constructed via the off-diagonal Bethe ansatz (ODBA). Here we introduce a method to approach the thermodynamic limit of those models. The key point is that at a sequence of degenerate points of the crossing parameter η=η_m, the off-diagonal Bethe ansatz equations (BAEs) can be reduced to the conventional ones. This allows us to extrapolate the formulae derived from the reduced BAEs to arbitrary ηcase with O(N^{-2}) corrections in the thermodynamic limit N\to\infty. As an example, the surface energy of the XXZ spin chain model with arbitrary boundary magnetic fields is derived exactly. This approach can be generalized to all the ODBA solvable models.

Chiral f-wave Topological Superuid in Triangular Optical Lattices

We demonstrate that an exotically chiral f-wave topological superfluid can be induced in coldfermionic-atom triangular optical lattices through the laser-field-generated effective non-Abelian gauge field, controllable Zeeman fields and s-wave Feshbach resonance. We find that the chiral f-wave topological superfluid is characterized by three gapless Majorana edge states located on the boundary of the system. More interestingly, these Majorana edge states degenerate into one Majorana fermion bound to each vortex in the superfluid. Our proposal enlarges topological superfluid family and specifies a unique experimentally controllable system to study the Majorana fermion physics.

Completeness and Bethe root distribution of the spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain with arbitrary boundary fields

Recently, the XXX spin chain with arbitrary boundary fields was successfully solved [1] via the off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method [2]. The correctness and the completeness of this solution were numerically verified by Nepomechie for one choice of the parameterizations [3]. In this paper, we discuss further the completeness of another parameterization of the Bethe ansatz equations and its reduction to the parallel boundary field case. The numerical results show that when the relative angle between the boundary fields turns to zero, both the T-Q relations and the Bethe ansatz equations are reduced to the ones obtained by the conventional Bethe ansatz methods. This allows us to establish a one-to-one correspondence between the Bethe roots of the unparallel boundary field case and those of the parallel boundary field case. In the thermodynamic limit, those two sets of Bethe roots tend to the same and the contribution of the relative angle to the energy is in the order of 1/N.

Exact solution of the one-dimensional Hubbard model with arbitrary boundary magnetic fields

The one-dimensional Hubbard model with arbitrary boundary magnetic fields is solved exactly via the Bethe ansatz methods. With the coordinate Bethe ansatz in the charge sector, the second eigenvalue problem associated with the spin sector is constructed. It is shown that the second eigenvalue problem can be transformed into that of the inhomogeneous XXX spin chain with arbitrary boundary fields which can be solved via the off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method.

Off-diagonal Bethe ansatz and exact solution of a topological spin ring

A general method is proposed for constructing the Bethe ansatz equations of integrable models without U(1) symmetry. As an example, the exact spectrum of the XXZ spin ring with M{\" o}bius like topological boundary condition is derived by constructing a modified T-Q relation based on the functional connection between the eigenvalues of the transfer matrix and the quantum determinant of the monodromy matrix. With the exact solution, the elementary excitations of the topological XX spin ring is discussed in detail. It is found that the excitation spectrum indeed shows a nontrivial topological nature.

Off-diagonal Bethe ansatz solutions of the anisotropic spin-1/2 chains with arbitrary boundary fields

The anisotropic spin-1/2 chains with arbitrary boundary fields are diagonalized with the off-diagonal Bethe ansatz method. Based on the properties of the R-matrix and the K-matrices, an operator product identity of the transfer matrix is constructed at some special points of the spectral parameter. Combining with the asymptotic behavior (for XXZ case) or the quasi-periodicity properties (for XYZ case) of the transfer matrix, the extended T-Q ansatzs and the corresponding Bethe ansatz equations are derived.

Topological superconductor to Anderson localization transition in one-dimensional incommensurate lattices

We study the competition of disorder and superconductivity for a one-dimensional p-wave superconductor in incommensurate potentials. With the increase in the strength of the incommensurate potential, the system undergoes a transition from a topological superconducting phase to a topologically trivial localized phase. The phase boundary is determined both numerically and analytically from various aspects and the topological superconducting phase is characterized by the presence of Majorana edge fermions in the system with open boundary conditions. We also calculate the topological $Z_2$ invariant of the bulk system and find it can be used to distinguish the different topological phases even for a disordered system.

Oriented gap opening in the magnetically ordered state of Iron-pnicitides: an impact of intrinsic unit cell doubling on the $Fe$ square lattice by $As$ atoms

We show that the complicated band reconstruction near Fermi surfaces in the magnetically ordered state of iron-pnictides observed by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopies (ARPES) can be understood in a meanfield level if the \emph{intrinsic unit cell doubling} due to As atoms is properly considered as shown in the recently constructed S$_{4}$ microscopic effective model. The (0,$π$) or ($π$,0) col-linear antiferromagnetic (C-AFM) order does not open gaps between two points at Fermi surfaces linked by the ordered wave vector but forces a band reconstruction involving four points in unfolded Brillouin zone (BZ) and gives rise to small pockets or hot spots. The S$_4$ symmetry naturally chooses a staggered orbital order over a ferro-orbital order to coexist with the C-AFM order. These results strongly suggest that the kinematics based on the S$_{4}$ symmetry captures the essential low energy physics of iron-based superconductors.

Topological phases and fractional excitations of the exciton condensate in a special class of bilayer systems

We study the exciton condensate in zero temperature limit in a special class of electron-hole bilayer systems adjacent to insulating ferromagnetic films. With the self-consistent mean-field approximation, we find that the Rashba spin-orbit interaction in the electron and hole layers can induce the p \pm ip or p pairing states depending on the different magnetization of the overlapped ferromagnetic films. Correspondingly, the topologically nontrivial or trivial phases emerge. Furthermore, in the topologically nontrivial phase, the quasiparticle excitations of the U(1) vortex are attached to fractional quantum numbers and obey Abelian statistics.

An unified minimum effective model of magnetism in iron-based superconductors

Since 2008, many new families of iron-based high temperature (high-$T_c$) superconductors have been discovered \cite{Hosono,ChenXH,FeTe,ChenXL}. Unlike all parent compounds of cuprates that share a common antiferromagnetically (AF) ordered ground state, those of iron-based superconductors exhibit many different AF ordered ground states, including collinear-AF (CAF) state in ferropnictides \cite{caf}, bicollinear-AF (BCAF) state in 11-ferrochalcogenide $FeTe$ \cite{bcaf,bcaf2}, and block-AF (BAF) state in 122-ferrochalcogenide $K_{0.8}Fe_{1.6}Se_2$ \cite{baf}. While the universal presence of antiferromagnetism suggests that superconductivity is strongly interrelated with magnetism, the diversity of the AF ordered states obscures their interplay. Here we show that all magnetic phases can be unified within an effective magnetic model. This model captures three incommensurate magnetic phases, two of which have been observed experimentally. The model characterizes the nature of phase transitions between the different magnetic phases and explains a variety of magnetic properties, such as spin-wave spectra and electronic nematism. Most importantly, by unifying the understanding of magnetism, we cast new insight on the key ingredients of magnetic interactions which are critical to the occurrence of superconductivity.

D-wave bosonic pair in an optical lattice

We present a bosonic model, in which two bosons may form a bound pair with d-wave symmetry via the four-site ring exchange interaction. A d-wave pairing superfluid as well as a d-wave density wave (DDW) state, are proposed to be achievable in this system. This exotic bosonic system can be realized in the BEC zone of a two-dimensional attractive p-band spinless fermionic system. By the mean field approach, we find that at low densities, the d-wave pairs may condensate, leading to a d-wave bosonic paired superfluid. At some particular filling factors, a novel phase, d-wave density wave state, emerges. We study this DDW state and its corresponding quantum phase transition in a two-leg ladder by the time-evolving block decimation (TEBD) method.

dMotifGreedy: a novel tool for de novo discovery of DNA motifs with enhanced power of reporting distinct motifs

De novo discovery of over-represented DNA motifs is one of the major challenges in computational biology. Although numerous tools have been available for de novo motif discovery, many of these tools are subject to local optima phenomena, which may hinder detection of multiple distinct motifs. A greedy algorithm based tool named dMotifGreedy was developed. dMotifGreedy begins by searching for candidate motifs from pair-wise local alignments of input sequences and then computes an optimal global solution for each candidate motif through a greedy algorithm. dMotifGreedy has competitive performance in detecting a true motif and greatly enhanced performance in detecting multiple distinct true motifs. dMotifGreedy is freely available via a stand-alone program at http://lambchop.ads.uga.edu/dmotifgreedy/download.php.

Quantum dynamics of hard-core bosons in tilted bichromatic optical lattices

We study the dynamics of strongly repulsive Bose gas in tilted or driven bichromatic optical lattices. Using the Bose-Fermi mapping and exact numerical method, we calculate the reduced single-particle density matrices, and study the dynamics of density profile, momentum distribution and condensate fraction. We show the oscillating and breathing mode of dynamics, and depletion of condensate for short time dynamics. For long time dynamics, we clearly show the reconstruction of system at integer multiples of Bloch-Zener time. We also show how to achieve clear Bloch oscillation and Landau-Zener tunnelling for many-particle systems.

Quantum magnetism of ultra-cold fermion systems with the symplectic symmetry

We numerically study quantum magnetism of ultra-cold alkali and alkaline-earth fermion systems with large hyperfine spin $F=3/2$, which are characterized by a generic $Sp(N)$ symmetry with N=4. The methods of exact diagonalization (ED) and density-matrix-renormalization-group are employed for the large size one-dimensional (1D) systems, and ED is applied to a two-dimensional (2D) square lattice on small sizes. We focus on the magnetic exchange models in the Mott-insulating state at quarter-filling. Both 1D and 2D systems exhibit rich phase diagrams depending on the ratio between the spin exchanges $J_0$ and $J_2$ in the bond spin singlet and quintet channels, respectively. In 1D, the ground states exhibit a long-range-ordered dimerization with a finite spin gap at $J_0/J_2>1$, and a gapless spin liquid state at $J_0/J_2 \le 1$, respectively. In the former and latter cases, the correlation functions exhibit the two-site and four-site periodicities, respectively. In 2D, various spin correlation functions are calculated up to the size of $4\times 4$. The Neel-type spin correlation dominates at large values of $J_0/J_2$, while a $2\times 2$ plaquette correlation is prominent at small values of this ratio. Between them, a columnar spin-Peierls dimerization correlation peaks. We infer the competitions among the plaquette ordering, the dimer ordering, and the Neel ordering in the 2D system.

Quantum Spinon Oscillations

The full quantum dynamics of a spinon under external magnetic fields is investigated by using the time-evolving block decimation (TEBD) method within the microcanonical picture of transport. We show that the center of the spinon oscillates back and forth in the absence of dissipation. The quantum many-body behavior can be understood in a single-particle picture of transport and Bloch oscillations, where quantum fluctuations induce finite life times. Transport, oscillations and lifetimes can be tuned to some degree separately by external fields. Other nontrivial dynamics such as resonance as well as chaos have also been discussed.

Spontaneous trimerization in two-dimensional Antiferromagnets

In this paper, we propose a novel quantum paramagnetic state in two-dimensional antiferromagnets: the spontaneously trimer state, which is constructed by the trimers of spins. Each trimer is a singlet state formed by three neighboring spins with SU(3) symmetry. A frustrated spin-1 Heisenberg model in the kagome lattice is investigated. By analogy to the pseudo-potential approach in the fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE), we find that the trimer state provides a perfect description for the exact ground state of this model. Other interesting properties, such as the local excitations as well as magnetization plateaus have also been investigated. It is shown that this novel state would deepen our understanding of the nature of the many-body entanglement in the two-dimensional strong correlated systems.

Stable Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov pairing states in 2D and 3D optical lattices

We present the study of the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) pairing states in the $p$-orbital bands in both two and three-dimensional optical lattices. Due to the quasi one-dimensional band structure which arises from the unidirectional hopping of the orthogonal $p$-orbitals, the pairing phase space is not affected by spin imbalance. Furthermore, interactions build up high dimensional phase coherence which stabilizes the FFLO states in 2D and 3D optical lattices in a large parameter regime in phase diagram. These FFLO phases are stable with imposing the inhomogeneous trapping potential. Their entropies are comparable to those of the normal states at finite temperatures.

Thermodynamics and spin-charge separation of one-dimensional strongly repulsive three-component fermions

The low temperature thermodynamics of one-dimensional strongly repulsive SU(3) fermions in the presence of a magnetic field is investigated via the Yang-Yang thermodynamic Bethe ansatz method. The analytical free energy and magnetic properties of the model at low temperatures in a weak magnetic field are derived via the Wiener-Hopf method. It is shown that the low energy physics can be described by spin-charge separated conformal field theories of an effective Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid and an antiferromagnetic SU(3) Heisenberg spin chain. Beyond the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid regime, the equation of state is given in terms of the polylog function for a weak external field. The results obtained are essential for further study of quantum criticality in strongly repulsive three-component fermions.

Analytical thermodynamics of a strongly attractive three-component Fermi gas in one dimension

Ultracold three-component atomic Fermi gases in one dimension are expected to exhibit rich physics due to the presence of trions and different pairing states. Quantum phase transitions from the trion state into a paired phase and a normal Fermi liquid occur at zero temperature. We derive the analytical thermodynamics of strongly attractive three-component one-dimensional fermions with SU(3) symmetry via the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz method in unequal Zeeman splitting fields $H_1$ and $H_2$. We find explicitly that for low temperature the system acts like either a two-component or a three-component Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid dependent on the system parameters. The phase diagrams for the chemical potential and specific heat are presented for illustrative values of the Zeeman splitting. We also demonstrate that crossover between different Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid phases evolve singular behaviour in specific heat and entropy as the temperature tends to zero. Beyond Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid physics, we obtain the equation of state which provides a precise description of universal thermodynamics and quantum criticality in three-component strongly attractive Fermi gases.

Chiral topological excitonic insulator in semiconductor quantum wells

We present a scheme to realize the chiral topological excitonic insulator in semiconductor heterostructures which can be experimentally fabricated with a coupled quantum well adjacent to twoferromagnetic insulating films. The different mean-field chiral topological orders, which are due to the change in the directions of the magnetization of the ferromagnetic films, can be characterized by the TKNN numbers in the bulk system as well as by the winding numbers of the gapless states in the edged system. Furthermore, we propose an experimental scheme to detect the emergence of the chiral gapless edge state and distinguish different chiral topological orders by measuring the thermal conductance.

Hidden Sp(2s+1)- or SO(2s+1)-symmetry and new exactly solvable models in ultracold atomic systems

The high spin ultracold atom models with a special form of contact interactions, i.e., the scattering lengthes in the total spin-$2,4 \cdots$ channels are equal but may be different from that in the spin-0 channel, is studied. It is found that those models have either $Sp(2s+1)$-symmetry for the fermions or $SO(2s+1)$-symmetry for the bosons in the spin sector. Impurity effects and ferromagnetism in excitonic insulators

Both nonmagnetic and magnetic impurity effects in spin singlet and triplet excitonic insulators were investigated. The bound state energies caused by single impurity were given. The different compositions of the bound states can be used to detect the symmetry of the excitonic insulators. In finite concentration problems, nonmagnetic impurities showed same pair-breaking effect in singlet and triplet excitonic insulators while magnetic impurities showed weaker pair-breaking effect in triplet excitonic insulators than in singlet ones. The pair-breaking effects suppressed the ferromagnetic range via doping and gave a natural explaination for experimental results.

Polarized Fermi gases in asymmetric optical lattices

The zero-temperature phase diagrams of imbalanced two-species Fermi gases are investigated in asymmetric optical lattices with arbitrary potential depths, based on the exact spectrum instead of the Fermi-Hubbard model. We study the effect of lattice potentials and atomic densities to the fully paired Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) state and particularly the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state. It is found that the increasing lattice potential favors BCS at low densities because of the enhanced effective coupling; whereas FFLO is favored at intermediate densities when the system undergoes a dimensional crossover. Finally using local density approximation we study the evolution of phase profile in the presence of external harmonic traps by merely tuning the lattice potentials.

Resonance Scattering in Optical Lattices and Molecules: Interband versus Intraband Effects

We study the low-energy two-body scattering in optical lattices with all higher-band effects included in an effective potential, using a renormalization group approach. As the potential depth reaches a certain value, a resonance of low energy scattering occurs even when the negative s-wave scattering length $(a_s)$ is much shorter than the lattice constant. These resonances can be mainly driven either by interband or intraband effects or by both, depending on the magnitude of $a_s$. Furthermore the low-energy scattering matrix in optical lattices has a much stronger energy-dependence than that in free space. We also investigate the momentum distribution for molecules when released from optical lattices.

Cooperative order and excitation spectra in the bicomponent spin networks

A ferrimagnetic spin model composed of $S=1/2$ spin-dimers and $S=5/2$ spin-chains is studied by combining the bond-operator representation (for $S=1/2$ spin-dimers) and Holstein-Primakoff transformation (for $S=5/2$ spins). A finite interaction $J_{\rm DF}$ between the spin-dimer and the spin chain makes the spin chains ordered antiferromagnetically and the spin dimers polarized. The effective interaction between the spin chains, mediated by the spin dimers, is calculated up to the third order. The staggered magnetization in the spin dimer is shown proportional to $J_{\rm DF}$. It presents an effective staggered field reacting on the spin chains. The degeneracy of the triplons is lifted due to the chain magnetization and a mode with longitudinal polarization is identified. Due to the triplon-magnon interaction, the hybridized triplon-like excitations show different behaviors near the vanishing $J_{\rm DF}$. On the other hand, the hybridized magnon-like excitations open a gap $Δ_A\sim J_{\rm DF}$. These results consist well with the experiments on Cu$_{2}$Fe$_{2}$Ge$_{4}$O$_{13}$.

We study a bilayer two-dimension-electron-gas (2DEG) adjacent to a type-II superconductor thin film with a pinned vortex lattice. We find that with increasing interlayer tunneling, the system of half filling presents three phases: gapped phase-I (topological insulator), gapless critical phase-II (metal), and gapped phase-III (band insulator). The Hall conductance for phase-I/III is 2/0 $e^{2}/h$, and has non-quantized values in phase-II. The excitation (response to topological defect, a local vortex defect) in these three phases shows different behaviors due to the topological property of the system, including fractional charge $e/2$ for each layer in phase-I. While in the case of quarter filling, the system undergoes a quantum phase transition from metallic phase to topological insulator phase (with excitation of fractional charge $e/4$).

Interaction-induced anomalous transport behavior in one dimensional optical lattice

The non-equilibrium dynamics of spin impurity atoms in a strongly interacting one-dimensional (1D) Bose gas under the gravity field is studied. We show that due to the non-equilibrium preparation of the initial state as well as the interaction between the impurity atoms and other bosons, a counterintuitive phenomenon may emerge: the impurity atoms could propagate upwards automatically in the gravity field . The effects of the strength of interaction, the gradient of the gravity field, as well as the different configurations of the initial state are investigated by studying the time-dependent evolution of the 1D strongly interacting bosonic system using time-evolving block decimation (TEBD) method. A profound connection between this counterintuitive phenomenon and the repulsive bound pair is also revealed.

Superfluid to Bose-glass transition of hard core bosons in one-dimensional incommensurate optical lattice

We study superfluid to Anderson insulator transition of strongly repulsive Bose gas in a one dimensional incommensurate optical lattice. In the hard core limit, the Bose-Fermi mapping allows us to deal with the system exactly by using the exact numerical method. Based on the Aubry-André model, we exploit the phase transition of the hard core boson system from superfluid phase with all the single particle states being extended to the Bose glass phase with all the single particle states being Anderson localized as the strength of the incommensurate potential increasing relative to the amplitude of hopping. We evaluate the superfluid fraction, the one particle density matrices, momentum distributions, the natural orbitals and their occupations. All of these quantities show that there exists a phase transition from superfluid to insulator in the system.
