Charged qOS-extremal black hole and its scalarization by entropy function approach

We investigate scalarization of charged quantum Oppenheimer-Snyder extremal (cqOSe)-black hole in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-scalar theory with a nonlinear electrodynamics term. This black hole is described by quantum parameter $α$ and magnetic charge $P$. It is equivalent to the qOS-extremal black hole whose action is still unknown when imposing a relation of $(3αP^2)^{1/4}\to 3M/2$. Focusing on the onset of scalarization, we find the single branch of scalarized cqOS extremal (scqOSe)-black holes. To obtain a scalar cloud (seed) for the single branch, however, we have to consider its near-horizon geometry of the Bertotti-Bobinson (BR) spacetime. In this case, two scalar clouds for positive and negative coupling constant $λ$ are found to represent two branches. Applying Sen's entropy function approach to this theory, we obtain the entropy which is the only physical quantity to describe the scqOSe-black holes. We find that the positive branch is preferred than the negative branch.

Newly scalarization of the Einstein-Euler-Heisenberg black hole

Th spontaneous scalarization of the Einstein-Euler-Heisenberg (EEH) black hole is performed in the EEH-scalar theory by introducing an exponential scalar coupling (with $α$ coupling constant) to the Maxwell term. Here, the EEH black hole as a blad black hole is described by mass $M$ and magnetic charge $q$ with an action parameter $μ$. A choice of $μ=0.3$ gurantees a single horizon with unrestricted magnetic charge $q$. The onset scalarization of this black hole appears for a positive coupling $α$ with an unlimited magnetic charge $q$. However, there exists a difference between $q\le1$ and $q>1$ onset scalarizations. We notify the presence of infinite branches labeled by the number of $n=0,1,2,\cdots$ of scalarized charged black holes by taking into account the scalar seeds around the EEH black hole. We find that the $n=0$ fundamental branch of all scalarized black holes is stable against the radial perturbations, while the $n=1$ excited branch is unstable.

Scalarization of Kerr-Newman black holes in the Einstein-Chern-Simons-scalar theory

We investigate the tachyonic instability of Kerr-Newman (KN) black hole with a rotation parameter $a$ in the Einstein-Chern-Simons-scalar theory coupled with a quadratic massive scalar field. This instability analysis corresponds to exploring the onset of spontaneous scalarization for KN black holes. First, we find no $a$-bound for $α<0$ case by considering (1+1)-dimensional analytical method. A direct numerical method is adopted to explore (2+1)-dimensional time evolution of a massive scalar perturbation with positive and negative $α$ to obtain threshold curves numerically. We obtain threshold curves $α_{\rm th}(a)$ of tachyonic instability for positive $α$ without any $a$-bounds. We expect to find the same threshold curves $α_{\rm th}(a)$ of tachyonic instability for negative $α$ without any $a$-bound because its linearized scalar theory is invariant under the transformation of $α\to -α$ and $θ\to -θ$. In addition, it is found that the scalar mass term suppresses tachyonic instability of KN black holes.

Analytical approximate solutions for scalarized AdS black holes

The spontaneous scalarization of Schwarzscild-AdS is investigated in the Einstein-scalar-Gauss--Bonnet (ESGB) theory. Firstly, we construct scalarized AdS black holes numerically. Secondly, making use of the homotopy analysis method (HAM), we obtain analytical approximate solutions for scalarized AdS black holes in the ESGB theory. It is found that scalarized AdS black holes constructed numerically are consistent with analytical approximate solutions in the whole space.

Conditions for superradiant instability of the Kerr-Newman black holes

We find two conditions for superradiant instability of Kerr-Newman black holes under a charged massive scalar perturbation by analyzing asymptotic scalar potential and far-region wave function. Actually, they correspond to the condition for getting a trapping well. Also, we obtain the conditions for superradiant stability of Kerr-Newman black holes which states that there is no trapping well. The analysis is applied to Kerr black holes to find a condition for superradiant instability.

Quasibound states of massive scalar around the Kerr black hole

In this work, we obtain quasibound states of a massive scalar around the Kerr black hole. A massive scalar propagating around the Kerr black hole induces the far-region potential with either a trapping well or a tiny well, which produces a peak of resonance or a bound state in the far-region. The former represents superradiant instability, while the latter could accommodate superradiant instability via a positive $ω_I$. If the scalar's energy is really quantized around a tiny well, an ultralight boson could be expressed in terms of a hydrogen-like bound state, leading to a gravitational atom when incorporating superradiant instability. If there are no wells outside the outer horizon, their far-region wave functions represent purely bound state without node. Finally, we discriminate between superradiant instability and stability.

Revisiting superradiant stability of Kerr-Newman black holes under a charged massive scalar

We revisit the superradiant stability of Kerr-Newman black holes under a charged massive scalar perturbation. We obtain a newly suitable potential which is not singular at the outer horizon when a radial equation is expressed the Schrödinger-type equation in terms of the tortoise coordinate. From the potential analysis, we find a condition for the superradiant stability of Kerr-Newman black holes.

Spin-induced scalarization of Kerr-Newman black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-scalar theory

In this paper, we consider the tachyonic instability of Kerr-Newman (KN) black holes in the Einstein-Maxwell-scalar (EMS) theory with nonminimal negative scalar coupling to Maxwell term, and then obtain a bound $(\frac{a}{r_+}\geq0.4142)$ for spin parameter $a$ of KN black hole in the limit of coupling constant $α\rightarrow-\infty$ by using analytical method. In addition, we perform a $(2+1)$-dimensional time evolution of linearized scalar field perturbation on the KN black hole background by implementing the hyperboloidal foliation method numerically in the EMS theory. It recovers the \textit{spontaneous scalarization} phenomenon for KN black hole in some certain regions of the parameter spaces. We further plot corresponding threshold curves $α(a)$ which describe a boundary between bald KN black holes and scalarized spinning black holes in the EMS theory.

Superradiant instability of a massive scalar on the Kerr spacetime

We investigate the superradiant instability of Kerr black holes under a massive scalar perturbation. We obtain a potential $V_i(r)$ when expanding the scalar potential $V_K(r)$ for large $r$. The Newton potential $V_1(r)$ and the far-region potential $V_2(r)$ are used to explore the superradiant instability, while $V_3(r)$ matches a geodesic potential $V_{gK}(r)$ for a neutral particle moving around the Kerr black hole. Thus, $V_{gK}(r)$ is employed to fix the separation constant. We obtain a condition for a trapping well to possess a quasibound state in the Kerr black holes by analyzing the Newton potential $V_1(r)$and far-region wave functions obtained from $V_2(r)$. The other condition for no trapping well (a tiny well) is found to generate an asymptotic bound state. Finally, we discuss an ultralight boson whose potential has a tiny well located at asymptotic region.

Black hole with primary scalar hair in Einstein-Weyl-Maxwell-conformal scalar theory

We obtain a newly charged BBMB (Bocharova-Bronnikov-Melnikov-Bekenstein) black hole solution from the Einstein-Weyl-Maxwell-conformal (conformally coupled) scalar theory with a positive Weyl coupling parameter $m^2_2$ numerically. This solution has a primary scalar hair, compared to a secondary scalar hair in the charged BBMB black hole solution. The limiting case of $m_2^2\to\infty$ leads to the series form of the charged BBMB black hole solution. However, for $m^2_2<0$, we could not obtain any asymptotically flat black hole solution with scalar hair.

Onset of rotating scalarized black holes in Einstein-Chern-Simons-Scalar theory

We perform the stability analysis of the Kerr black hole in the Einstein-Chern-Simons-Scalar theory with quadratic scalar coupling. For positive coupling parameter ($α>0$), we introduce the (2+1)-dimensional hyperboloidal foliation method to show that the Kerr black hole is unstable against scalar-mode perturbation. In case of $α<0$, it is shown that the Kerr black hole is unstable without any $α$-independent bound on the rotation parameter $a$ when using the the hyperboloidal foliation method. The disappearance of the $a$-bound is confirmed analytically by implementing the (1+1)-dimensional linearized scalar equation.

Radial perturbations of the scalarized black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-conformally coupled scalar theory

We perform the stability analysis for the scalarized charged black holes obtained from Einstein-Maxwell-conformally coupled scalar (EMCS) theory by employing the radial perturbations. The targeting black holes include a single branch of scalarized charged black hole with the coupling parameter $α>0$ inspired by the constant scalar hairy black hole as well as infinite branches of $n=0(α\ge 8.019),1(α\ge 40.84),2(α\ge 99.89),\cdots$ scalarized charged black holes found through the spontaneous scalarization on the Reissner-Nordström black hole. It turns out that the black hole in the single branch and the $n = 0$ black hole are stable against radial perturbations, while the $n = 1, 2$ excited black holes are unstable in the EMCS theory with both quadratic and exponential couplings.

Scalar hairy black holes in Einstein-Maxwell-conformally coupled scalar theory

We obtain scalar hairy black holes from Einstein-Maxwell-conformally coupled scalar (EMCS) theory with the scalar coupling parameter $α$ to the Maxwell term. In case of $α=0$, the $α=0$ EMCS theory provides constant (charged) scalar hairy black hole and charged BBMB (Bocharova-Bronnikov-Melnikov-Bekenstein) black hole where the former is stable against full perturbations, while the latter remains unstable because it belongs to an extremal black hole. It is noted that for $α\not=0$, the unstable Reissner-Nordström black holes without scalar hair imply infinite branches of $n=0(α\ge 8.019),1(α\ge 40.84),2(α\ge 99.89),\cdots$ scalarized charged black holes. In addition, for $α>0$, we develop a single branch of scalarized charged black hole solutions inspired by the constant scalar hairy black hole. Finally, we obtain the numerical charged BBMB black hole solution from the $α=0$ EMCS theory.

Scalarized black holes in the Einstein-Maxwell-scalar theory with a quasi-topological term

We investigate the Einstein-Maxwell-scalar theory with a quasi-topological term. Considering exponential couplings to Maxwell term, quasi-topological term, and both terms, we obtain three sets of infinite scalarized charged black holes by taking into account tachyonic instability of dyonic Reissner-Nordström black hole. Each set of infinite scalarized charged black holes is classified by the number of $n=0,1,2,\cdots$, where $n=0$ is called the fundamental black hole and $n=1,2,\cdots$ denote the $n$-excited black holes. All $n=0$ black holes are stable against the radial perturbation, while all $n=1,2$ black holes are unstable.

Scalarized charged black holes with scalar mass term

We study the scalarized charged black holes in the Einstein-Maxwell-Scalar (EMS) theory with scalar mass term. In this work, the scalar mass term is chosen to be $m^2_ϕ=α/β$, where $α$ is a coupling parameter and $β$ is a mass-like parameter. It turns out that any scalarized charged black holes are not allowed for the case of $β\le 4.4$ with $q=0.7(M=0.5,Q=0.35)$ because this case implies the stable Reissner-Nodström (RN) black holes. In the massless limit of $β\to \infty$, one recovers the case of the EMS theory. We note that the unstable RN black hole implies the appearance of scalarized charged black holes. The other unstable case of $β>4.4$ with $q=0.7$ allows us to obtain the $n=0,1,2,\cdots$ scalarized charged black holes for $α(β)\ge α_{\rm th}(β)$ where $α_{\rm th}(β)$ represents the threshold of instability for the RN black hole. Furthermore, it is shown that the $n=0$ black hole is stable against radial perturbations, while the $n=1$ black hole is unstable. This stability result is independent of the mass parameter $β$.

Inflaton decay and reheating in nonminimal derivative coupling

We investigate the inflaton decay and reheating period after the end of inflation in the non-minimal derivative coupling (NDC) model with chaotic potential. In general, this model is known to provide an enhanced slow-roll inflation caused by gravitationally enhanced friction. We find violent oscillations of Hubble parameter which induces oscillations of the sound speed squared, implying the Lagrangian instability of curvature perturbation $ζ$ under the comoving gauge $φ=0$. Also, it is shown that the curvature perturbation blows up at $\dotϕ=0$, leading to the breakdown of the comoving gauge at $\dotϕ=0$. Therefore, we use the Newtonian gauge to perform the perturbation analysis where the Newtonian potential is employed as a physical variable. The curvature perturbation is not considered as a physical variable which describes a relevant perturbation during reheating.

Preheating in the nonminimal derivative coupling to gravity

We revisit the reheating mechanism after the end of inflation in the non-minimal derivative coupling (NDC) to gravity with quadratic potential. This is because the inflaton of the NDC should describe the slow-roll inflation as well as the preheating stage after the end of inflation. We point out that the non-periodic inflaton solution implies the absence of parametric resonance, compared to the periodic oscillating inflaton for the canonical coupling (CC) to gravity. Furthermore, it is demonstrated that narrow and broad parametric resonances do not appear after the end of inflation in the NDC model by solving the differential equation numerically for the quantum field, which differs from the case of the the CC model obtained by solving Mathieu equation.

Propagating degrees of freedom in f(R) gravity

We have computed the number of polarization modes of gravitational waves propagating in the Minkowski background in $f(R)$ gravity. This is three of two from transverse-traceless tensor modes and one from a massive trace mode, which confirms the results found in the literature. There is no massless breathing mode and the massive trace mode corresponds to the Ricci scalar. A newly defined metric tensor in $f(R)$ gravity satisfies the transverse-traceless (TT) condition as well as the TT wave equation.

Scale-invariant power spectra from a Weyl-invariant scalar-tensor theory

We obtain scale-invariant scalar and tensor power spectra from a Weyl-invariant scalar-tensor theory in de Sitter spacetime. This implies that the Weyl-invariance guarantees to implement the scale-invariance of power spectrum in de Sitter spacetime. We establish a deep connection between the Weyl-invariance of the action and scale-invariance of power spectrum in de Sitter spacetime.

Cosmological three-coupled scalar theory for the dS/LCFT correspondence

We investigate cosmological perturbations generated during de Sitter inflation in the three-coupled scalar theory. This theory is composed of three coupled scalars ($ϕ_p,p=1,2,3$) to give a sixth-order derivative scalar theory for $ϕ_3$, in addition to tensor. Recovering the power spectra between scalars from the LCFT correlators in momentum space indicates that the de Sitter/logarithmic conformal field theory (dS/LCFT) correspondence works in the superhorizon limit. We use LCFT correlators derived from the dS/LCFT differentiate dictionary to compare cosmological correlators (power spectra) and find also LCFT correlators by making use of extrapolate dictionary. This is because the former approach is more conventional than the latter. A bulk version dual to the truncation process to find a unitary CFT in the LCFT corresponds to selecting a physical field $ϕ_2$ with positive norm propagating on the dS spacetime.

Phase transitions of the BTZ black hole in new massive gravity

We investigate thermodynamics of the BTZ black hole in new massive gravity explicitly. For $m^2\ell^2>1/2$ with $m^2$ the mass parameter of fourth-order terms and $\ell^2$ AdS$_3$ curvature radius, the Hawking-Page phase transition occurs between the BTZ black hole and AdS (thermal) soliton. For $m^2\ell^2<1/2$, however, this transition unlikely occurs but a phase transition between the BTZ black hole and the massless BTZ black hole is possible to occur. We may call the latter as the inverse Hawking-Page phase transition and this transition is favored in the new massive gravity.

Revisiting slow-roll inflation in nonminimal derivative coupling with potentials

We investigate the slow-roll inflation in the nonminimal derivative coupling (NDC) model with exponential, quadric, and quartic potentials. It was known that this model provides an enhanced slow-roll inflation induced by gravitationally enhanced friction even for a steep exponential potential. In the phase portrait, the inflationary attractor is described by the slow-roll equation. Introducing the autonomous form, the inflation is regarded as an emergence from the saddle point and it leaves this fixed point along the slow-roll equation. We show explicitly that if one uses the NDC with potentials, the slow-roll inflation is easier to be implemented than the canonical coupling with the same potentials.

Scale-invariant scalar spectrum from the nonminimal derivative coupling with fourth-order term

An exactly scale-invariant spectrum of scalar perturbation generated during de Sitter spacetime is found from the gravity model of the nonminimal derivative coupling with fourth-order term. The nonminimal derivative coupling term generates a healthy (ghost-free) fourth-order derivative term, while the fourth-order term provides an unhealthy (ghost) fourth-order derivative term. The Harrison-Zel'dovich spectrum obtained from Fourier transforming the fourth-order propagator in de Sitter space is recovered by computing the power spectrum in its momentum space directly. It shows that this model provides a truly scale-invariant spectrum, in addition to the Lee-Wick scalar theory.

Stability of black holes in f(R) gravity

We investigate the stability of black holes in the viable model of $f(R)=R+R^2$ gravity which was known to be the best fit for inflation. These include Schwarzschild and Kerr black holes. Instead of studying the fourth-order linearized equation around the black hole background, we use the corresponding tensor-scalar theory of the Starobinsky model to perform their stability. The Schwarzschild black hole is stable, while the Kerr black hole is unstable because of superradiant instability.

Black hole stability in Jordan and Einstein frames

We investigate the classical stability of Schwarzschild black hole in Jordan and Einstein frames which are related by the conformal transformations. For this purpose, we introduce two models of the Brans-Dicke theory and Brans-Dicke-Weyl gravity in Jordan frame and two corresponding models in the Einstein frame. The former model is suitable for studying the massless spin-2 graviton propagating around the Schwarzschild black hole, while the later is designed for the massive spin-2 graviton propagating around the black hole. It turns out that the black hole (in)stability is independent of the frame which shows that the two frames are equivalent to each other.

preprint2014arXiv

Black holes in massive conformal gravity

We analyze the classical stability of Schwarzschild black hole in massive conformal gravity which was recently proposed for another massive gravity model. This model in the Jordan frame is conformally equivalent to the Einstein-Weyl gravity in the Einstein frame. The coupled linearized Einstein equation is decomposed into the traceless and trace equation when one chooses $6m^2φ=δR$. Solving the traceless equation exhibits unstable modes featuring the Gregory-Laflamme $s$-mode instability of five-dimensional black string, while we find no unstable modes when solving the trace equation. It is shown that the instability of the black hole in massive conformal gravity arises from the massiveness where the geometry of extra dimension trades for mass.

Cosmological singleton gravity theory and dS/LCFT correspondence

We study the evolution of cosmological perturbations generated during de Sitter inflation in the singleton gravity theory. This theory is composed of a dipole ghost pair in addition to tensor. We obtain the singleton power spectra which show that the de Sitter/logarithmic conformal field theory (dS/LCFT) correspondence works for computing the power spectra in the superhorizon limit. Also we compute the spectral indices for light singleton which contains a logarithmic correction.

Massive gravitational waves in Chern-Simons modified gravity

We consider the nondynamical Chern-Simons (nCS) modified gravity, which is regarded as a parity-odd theory of massive gravity in four dimensions. We first find polarization modes of gravitational waves for $θ=x/μ$ in nCS modified gravity by using the Newman-Penrose formalism where the null complex tetrad is necessary to specify gravitational waves. We show that in the Newman-Penrose formalism, the number of polarization modes is one in addition to an unspecified $Ψ_4$, implying three degrees of freedom for $θ=x/μ$. This compares with two for a canonical embedding of $θ=t/μ$. Also, if one introduces the Ricci tensor formalism to describe a massive graviton arising from the nCS modified gravity, one finds one massive mode after making second-order wave equations, which is compared to five found from the parity-even Einstein-Weyl gravity.

New massive conformal gravity

We investigate the new massive conformal gravity which is not invariant under conformal transformations, in comparison to the massive conformal gravity. We find five polarization modes of gravitational waves propagating on the Minkowski spacetimes. The stability of Minkowski spacetimes is guaranteed if the mass squared is not negative and the linearized Ricci tenor is employed to describe a massive spin-2 graviton. However, the small Schwarzschild black hole is unstable against the $s$-mode massive graviton perturbations.

Primordial massive gravitational waves from Einstein-Chern-Simons-Weyl gravity

We investigate the evolution of cosmological perturbations during de Sitter inflation in the Einstein-Chern-Simons-Weyl gravity. Primordial massive gravitational waves are composed of one scalar, two vector and four tensor circularly polarized modes. We show that the vector power spectrum decays quickly like a transversely massive vector in the superhorizon limit $z\to 0$. In this limit, the power spectrum coming from massive tensor modes decays quickly, leading to the conventional tensor power spectrum. Also, we find that in the limit of $m^2 \to 0$ (keeping the Weyl-squared term only), the vector and tensor power spectra disappear. It implies that their power spectra are not gravitationally produced because they (vector and tensor) are decoupled from the expanding de Sitter background, as a result of conformal invariance.

Quasinormal frequencies of a massless scalar in the hidden Kerr/CFT proposal

The hidden Kerr/CFT proposal implies that the massless scalar wave equation in the near-region and low-frequency limit respects a hidden SL(2,R)$\times$SL(2,R) invariance in the Kerr black hole spacetime. We may use this symmetry to determine quasinormal frequencies (QNFs) of the massless scalar wave propagating around the Kerr black hole algebraically. It is shown that QNFs obtained using the hidden conformal symmetry near the horizon correspond approximately to not only those of scalar perturbation around the near-horizon region of a nearly extremal Kerr (NEK) black hole, but also those of non-equatorial scalar modes around the NEK black hole. This indicates that the hidden Kerr/CFT proposal could determine quasinormal modes and frequencies of the massless scalar wave around the NEK (rapidly rotating) black hole approximately.

Scale-invariant spectrum of Lee-Wick model in de Sitter spacetime

We obtain a scale-invariant spectrum from the Lee-Wick model in de Sitter spacetime. This model is a fourth-order scalar theory whose mass parameter is determined by $M^2=2H^2$. The Harrison-Zel'dovich scale-invariant spectrum is obtained by Fourier transforming the propagator in position space as well as by computing the power spectrum directly. It shows clearly that the LW scalar theory provides a truly scale-invariant spectrum in whole de Sitter, while the massless scalar propagation in de Sitter shows a scale-invariant spectrum in the superhorizon region only.

Thermodynamic and classical instability of AdS black holes in fourth-order gravity

We study thermodynamic and classical instability of AdS black holes in fourth-order gravity. These include the BTZ black hole in new massive gravity, Schwarzschild-AdS black hole, and higher-dimensional AdS black holes in fourth-order gravity. All thermodynamic quantities which are computed using the Abbot-Deser-Tekin method are used to study thermodynamic instability of AdS black holes. On the other hand, we investigate the $s$-mode Gregory-Laflamme instability of the massive graviton propagating around the AdS black holes. We establish the connection between the thermodynamic instability and the GL instability of AdS black holes in fourth-order gravity. This may show the Gubser-Mitra conjecture which holds for AdS black holes found from fourth-order gravity.

BRST quantization of a sixth-order derivative scalar field theory

We study a sixth order derivative scalar field model in Minkowski spacetime as a toy model of higher-derivative critical gravity theories. This model is consistently quantized when using the Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) quantization scheme even though it does not show gauge symmetry manifestly. Imposing a BRST quartet generated by two scalars and ghosts, there remains a non-trivial subspace with positive norm. This might be interpreted as a Minkowskian dual version of the unitary truncation in the logarithmic conformal field theory.

Comment on Ricci dark energy in Chern-Simons modified gravity

We revisit Ricci dark energy in Chern-Simons modified gravity. As far as the cosmological evolution, this is nothing but the Ricci dark energy with a minimally coupled scalar without potential which means that the role of Chern-Simons term is suppressed. Using the equation of state parameter, this model is similar to the modified Chaplygin gas model only when two are around the de Sitter universe deriving by the cosmological constant in the future. However, two past evolutions are different.

Gregory-Laflamme instability of BTZ black hole in new massive gravity

We find the Gregory-Laflamme $s$-mode instability of the non-rotating BTZ black hole in new massive gravity. This instability shows that the BTZ black hole could not exist as a stable static solution to the new massive gravity. For non-rotating BTZ black string in four dimensions, however, it is demonstrated that the BTZ black string can be stable against the metric perturbation.

Instability of Schwarzschild-AdS black hole in Einstein-Weyl gravity

We investigate the classical stability of Schwarzschild-AdS black hole in a massive theory of the Einstein-Weyl gravity. It turns out that the linearized Einstein tensor perturbations exhibit unstable modes featuring the Gregory-Laflamme instability of five-dimensional AdS black string, in contrast to the stable Schwarzschild-AdS black hole in the Einstein-Weyl gravity. We confirm that the instability of the black hole in the Einstein-Weyl gravity arises from the massiveness but not a feature of fourth-order derivative theory giving ghost states.

Late-time acceleration in the coupled Cubic Galileon models

We investigate the linearly and quadratically coupled cubic Galileon models that include linear potentials. These models may explain the late-time acceleration. In these cases, we need two equations of state parameter named the native and effective equations of state to test whether the universe is accelerating or not because there is coupling between the cold dark matter and Galileon. It turns out that there is no transition from accelerating phase to phantom phase in the future.

Massive logarithmic graviton in the critical generalized massive gravity

We study the generalized massive gravity in three dimensional flat spacetime. A massive logarithmic mode is propagating in the flat spacetime at the critical point where two masses degenerate. Furthermore, we discuss the logarithmic extension of the Galilean conformal algebra (GCA) which may arise from the exotic and standard rank-2 logarithmic conformal field theory (LCFT) on the boundary of AdS3 spacetime.

Quantization of n coupled scalar field theory

We study a model of n coupled scalar fields in Minkowski spacetime where all masses degenerate, which is considered as a toy model of polycritical gravity on AdS spacetime. We quantize this model within the Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) scheme by introducing n Faddeev-Popov (FP) ghost fields. Extending a BRST quartet generated by two scalars and two FP ghosts to n scalars and n FP ghosts, there remains a physical subspace with positive norm for odd n, but there exists only the vacuum for even n. This clearly shows a non-triviality of odd-higher order derivative scalar field theories. This is helpful to understand the truncation mechanism which is used to obtain a unitary conformal field theory dual to linearized polycritical gravity. It turns out that the truncation mechanism is nothing but a general quartet mechanism appeared when introducing the FP ghost action.

Quasinormal frequencies using the hidden conformal symmetry of the Schwarzschild black hole

We show that the hidden conformal symmetry of the Schwarzschild black hole is realized from the AdS$_2$ sector of the AdS$_2\times S^2$, but not from the Rindler spacetime which is the genuine near-horizon geometry of the Schwarzschild black hole. This implies that purely imaginary quasinormal frequencies obtained using the hidden conformal symmetry is not suitable for describing the largely damped modes around the Schwarzschild black hole.

Quasinormal modes and hidden conformal symmetry in the Reissner-Nordstrom black hole

It is shown that the scalar wave equation in the near-horizon limit respects a hidden SL(2,R) invariance in the Reissner-Nordstrom (RN) black hole spacetimes. We use the SL(2,R) symmetry to determine algebraically the purely imaginary quasinormal frequencies of the RN black hole. We confirm that these are exactly quasinormal modes of scalar perturbation around the near-extremal black hole.

Stability of Schwarzschild black holes in fourth-order gravity revisited

We revisit the classical stability of Schwarzschild black hole in fourth-order theories of gravity. On the contrary of the stability of this black hole, it turns out that the linearized perturbations exhibit unstable modes featuring the Gregory-Laflamme instability of five-dimensional black string. This shows clearly an instability of black hole in fourth-order gravity with $α=-β/3$.

Stability of the massive graviton around a BTZ black hole in three dimensions

We investigate the massive graviton stability of the BTZ black hole obtained from three dimensional massive gravities which are classified into the parity-even and parity-odd gravity theories. In the parity-even gravity theory, we perform the $s$-mode stability analysis by using the BTZ black string perturbations, which gives two Schrödinger equations with frequency-dependent potentials. The $s$-mode stability is consistent with the generalized Breitenlohner-Freedman bound for spin-2 field. It seems that for the parity-odd massive gravity theory, the BTZ black hole is stable when the imaginary part of quasinormal frequencies of massive graviton is positive. However, this condition is not consistent with the $s$-mode stability based on the second-order equation obtained after squaring the first-order equation. Finally we explore the black hole stability connection between the parity-odd and parity-even massive gravity theories.

Tricritical gravity waves in the four-dimensional generalized massive gravity

We construct a generalized massive gravity by combining quadratic curvature gravity with the Chern-Simons term in four dimensions. This may be a candidate for the parity-odd tricritical gravity theory. Considering the AdS$_4$ vacuum solution, we derive the linearized Einstein equation, which is not similar to that of the three dimensional (3D) generalized massive gravity. When a perturbed metric tensor is chosen to be the Kerr-Schild form, the linearized equation reduces to a single massive scalar equation. At the tricritical points where two masses are equal to -1 and 2, we obtain a log-square wave solution to the massive scalar equation. This is compared to the 3D tricritical generalized massive gravity whose dual is a rank-3 logarithmic conformal field theory.

Unstable Schwarzschild-Tangherlini black holes in fourth-order gravity

We study the stability of Schwarzschild-Tangherlini (ST) black holes in fourth-order gravity which provides a higher dimensional linearized massive equation. The linearized-Ricci tensor perturbation is employed to exhibit unstable modes featuring the Gregory-Laflamme (GL) instability of higher dimensional black strings, in comparison to the stable ST black holes in Einstein gravity. It turns out that the GL instability of the ST black holes in the fourth-order gravity originates from the massiveness, but not a nature of fourth-order derivative theories giving ghost states.

Phase transitions for the Lifshitz black holes

We study possibility of phase transitions between Lifshitz black holes and other configurations by using free energies explicitly. A phase transition between Lifshitz soliton and Lifshitz black hole might not occur in three dimensions. We find that a phase transition between Lifshitz and BTZ black holes unlikely occurs because they have different asymptotes. Similarly, we point out that any phase transition between Lifshitz and black branes unlikely occurs in four dimensions since they have different asymptotes. This is consistent with a necessary condition for taking a phase transition in the gravitational system, which requires the same asymptote.

Quasinormal modes around the BTZ black hole at the tricritical generalized massive gravity

Employing the operator method, we obtain log-square quasinormal modes and frequencies of a graviton around the BTZ black hole at the tricritical point of the generalized massive gravity. The log-square quasinormal frequencies are also obtained by considering a finite temperature conformal field theory. This shows the AdS/LCFT correspondence at the tricritical point approximately. We discuss a truncation process to the unitary theory on the BTZ black hole background.

Rank-3 finite temperature logarithmic conformal field theory

We construct a rank-3 finite temperature logarithmic conformal field theory (LCFT) starting from a higher-derivative scalar field model in the BTZ black hole background. Its zero temperature limit reduces to a rank-3 LCFT in the AdS$_3$ background. For a tricritical generalized massive gravity, we read off the log-square quasinormal frequencies of graviton from the poles of the retarded Green's function in the momentum space. After using the truncation process, we find quasinormal frequencies from a unitary conformal field theory. Finally, employing the retarded Green's functions on the boundary, we compute the absorption cross sections of BTZ black hole which show feature of higher-order differential equations for scalars.

Rank-n logarithmic conformal field theory in the BTZ black hole

We construct the rank-$n$ finite temperature logarithmic conformal field theory (LCFT) starting from the $n$-coupled scalar field theory in the BTZ black hole background. Its zero temperature limit reduces to a rank-$n$ LCFT in the AdS$_3$ background whose gravity dual is a polycritical gravity. We compute all two-point functions of a rank-$n$ finite temperature LCFT. Using the retarded Green's functions on the boundary, we obtain quasinormal modes of scalar $A_n$ which satisfies the $2n$-th order linearized equation. Furthermore, the absorption cross section of $A_n$ indicates a feature of $\ln^{n-1}[ω\ell]$-correction to the Klein-Gordon mode.

Spin-3 quasinormal modes of BTZ black hole

Using the operator approach, we obtain quasinormal modes (QNMs) of BTZ black hole in spin-3 topologically massive gravity by solving the first-order equation of motion with the transverse-traceless condition. We find that these are different from those obtained when solving the second-order differential equation for the third-rank tensor of spin-3 field subject to suitable boundary conditions and having the sign ambiguity of mass. However, it is shown clearly that two approaches to the left-moving QNMs are identical, while the right-moving QNMs of solving the second-order equation are given by descendants of the operator approach.

Classical stability of BTZ black hole in new massive gravity

We study the stability of the BTZ black hole in the new massive gravity. This is a nontrivial task because the linearized equation around the BTZ black hole background is a fourth order differential equation. Away from the critical point of $m^2 l^2=1/2$, this fourth order equation is split into two second order equations: one describes a massless graviton and the other is designed for a massive graviton, which could be obtained from the Fierz-Pauli action. In this case, calculating quasinormal modes leads to confirm the stability of the BTZ black hole. At the critical point, we derive two left and right logarithmic quasinormal modes from the logarithmic conformal field theory. Finally, we identify two $s$-massive modes propagating on the black hole background through the conventional black hole stability analysis.

Critical gravity as van Dam-Veltman-Zakharov discontinuity in anti de Sitter space

We consider critical gravity as van Dam-Vletman-Zakharov (vDVZ) discontinuity in anti de Sitter space. For this purpose, we introduce the higher curvature gravity. This discontinuity can be confirmed by calculating the residues of relevant poles explicitly. For the non-critical gravity of $0<m_2^2<-2Λ/3$, the scalar residue of a massive pole is given by 2/3 when taking the $Λ\to 0$ limit first and then the $m^2_2 \to 0$ limit. This indicates that the vDVZ discontinuity occurs in the higher curvature theory, showing that propagating degrees of freedom is decreased from 5 to 3. However, at the critical point of $m^2_2=-2Λ/3$, the tensor residue of a massive pole blows up and scalar residue is -5/36, showing the unpromising feature of the critical gravity.

Critical gravity in the Chern-Simons modified gravity

We perform the perturbation analysis of the Chern-Simons modified gravity around the AdS$_4$ spacetimes (its curvature radius $\ell$) to obtain the critical gravity. In general, we could not obtain an explicit form of perturbed Einstein equation which shows a massive graviton propagation clearly, but for the Kerr-Schild perturbation and Chern-Simons coupling $θ=kx/y$, we find the AdS wave as a single massive solution to the perturbed Einstein equation. Its mass squared is given by $M^2=[-9+(2\ell^2/k-1)^2]/4\ell^2$. At the critical point of $M^2=0(k=\ell^2/2)$, the solution takes the log-form and the linearized excitation energies vanish.

Critical gravity on AdS2 spacetimes

We study the critical gravity in two dimensional AdS (AdS$_2$) spacetimes, which was obtained from the cosmological topologically massive gravity (TMG$_Λ$) in three dimensions by using the Kaluza-Klein dimensional reduction. We perform the perturbation analysis around AdS$_2$, which may correspond to the near-horizon geometry of the extremal BTZ black hole obtained from the TMG$_Λ$ with identification upon uplifting three dimensions. A massive propagating scalar mode $δF$ satisfies the second-order differential equation away from the critical point of $K=l$, whose solution is given by the Bessel functions. On the other hand, $δF$ satisfies the fourth-order equation at the critical point. We exactly solve the fourth-order equation, and compare it with the log-gravity in two dimensions. Consequently, the critical gravity in two dimensions could not be described by a massless scalar $δF_{\rm ml}$ and its logarithmic partner $δF^{\rm 4th}_{\rm log}$.

Entropic force and its cosmological implications

We investigate a possibility of realizing the entropic force into the cosmology. A main issue is how the holographic screen is implemented in the Newtonian cosmology. Contrary to the relativistic realization of Friedmann equations, we do not clarify the connection between Newtonian cosmology and entropic force because there is no way of implementing the holographic screen in the Newtonian cosmology.

Equations of State in the Brans-Dicke cosmology

We investigate the Brans-Dicke (BD) theory with the potential as cosmological model to explain the present accelerating universe. In this work, we consider the BD field as a perfect fluid with the energy density and pressure in the Jordan frame. Introducing the power-law potential and the interaction with the cold dark matter, we obtain the phantom divide which is confirmed by the native and effective equation of state. Also we can describe the metric $f(R)$ gravity with an appropriate potential, which shows a future crossing of phantom divide in viable $f(R)$ gravity models when employing the native and effective equations of state.

f(R) Black holes

We study the $f(R)$-Maxwell black hole imposed by constant curvature and its all thermodynamic quantities, which may lead to the Reissner-Nordström-AdS black hole by redefining Newtonian constant and charge. Further, we obtain the $f(R)$-Yang-Mills black hole imposed by constant curvature, which is related to the Einstein-Yang-Mills black hole in AdS space. Since there is no analytic black hole solution in the presence of Yang-Mills field, we obtain asymptotic solutions. Then, we confirm the presence of these solutions in a numerical way.

Future cosmological evolution in $f(R)$ gravity using two equations of state parameters

We investigate the issues of future oscillations around the phantom divide for $f(R)$ gravity. For this purpose, we introduce two types of energy density and pressure arisen from the $f(R)$-higher order curvature terms. One has the conventional energy density and pressure even in the beginning of the Jordan frame, whose continuity equation provides the native equation of state $w_{\rm DE}$. On the other hand, the other has the different forms of energy density and pressure which do not obviously satisfy the continuity equation. This needs to introduce the effective equation of state $w_{\rm eff}$ to describe the $f(R)$-fluid, in addition to the native equation of state $\tilde{w}_{\rm DE}$. We confirm that future oscillations around the phantom divide occur in $f(R)$ gravities by introducing two types of equations of state. Finally, we point out that the singularity appears ar $x=x_c$ because the stability condition of $f(R)$ gravity violates.

Graviton and scalar propagations on AdS(4) space in f(R) gravities

We investigate propagations of graviton and additional scalar on four-dimensional anti de Sitter (AdS$_4$) space using $f(R)$ gravity models with external sources. It is shown that there is the van Dam-Veltman-Zakharov (vDVZ) discontinuity in $f(R)$ gravity models because $f(R)$ gravity implies GR with additional scalar. This indicates a difference between general relativity and $f(R)$ gravity clearly.

Holographic superconductor in the exact hairy black hole

We study the charged black hole of hyperbolic horizon with scalar hair (charged Martinez-Troncoso-Zanelli: CMTZ black hole) as a model of analytic hairy black hole for holographic superconductor. For this purpose, we investigate the second order phase transition between CMTZ and hyperbolic Reissner-Nordström-AdS (HRNAdS) black holes. However, this transition unlikely occur. As an analytic treatment for holographic superconductor, we develop superconductor in the bulk and superfluidity on the boundary using the CMTZ black hole below the critical temperature. The presence of charge destroys the condensates around the zero temperature, which is in accord with the thermodynamic analysis of the CMTZ black hole.

Instability of rotating black hole in a limited form of $f(R)$ gravity

We investigate the stability of $f(R)$-rotating (Kerr) black hole obtained from a limited form of $f(R)$ gravity. In order to avoid the difficulty of handling fourth order linearized equations, we transform this form of $f(R)$ gravity into the scalar-tensor theory by introducing two auxiliary scalars. In this case, the linearized curvature scalar equation leads to a massive scalaron equation. It turns out that the $f(R)$-rotating black hole is unstable because of the superradiant instability known as the black-hole bomb idea.

Massive gravitons dark matter scenario revisited

We reexamine the massive graviton dark matter scenario (MGCDM) which was recently considered as an alternative to dark energy models. When introducing the native and effective equations of state (EoS), it is shown that there is no phantom phase in the evolution toward the far past. Also we show that the past accelerating phase arises from the interaction between massive graviton and cold dark matter.

Nonexistence of quasinormal modes in the extremal BTZ black hole

We show that quasinormal modes cannot exist in the extremal BTZ black hole. For this purpose, we consider propagations of a minimally coupled scalar and a single massive graviton obtained from the cosmological topologically massive gravity on the extremal BTZ black hole. The would-be quasinormal modes for a scalar and graviton could not exist because it is impossible to make an ingoing flux into the extremal (degenerate) horizon. This is consistent with the argument that there is no propagating dynamics in the self-dual orbifold of AdS(3) which is just the near-horizon limit of the extremal BTZ black hole.

We find polarization modes of gravitational waves in topologically massive and new massive gravities by using the Newman-Penrose formalism where the null real tetrad is necessary to specify gravitational waves. Stability analysis of f(R)-AdS black holes

We study the stability of f(R)-AdS (Schwarzschild-AdS) black hole obtained from f(R) gravity. In order to resolve the difficulty of solving fourth order linearized equations, we transform f(R) gravity into the scalar-tensor theory by introducing two auxiliary scalars. In this case, the linearized curvature scalar becomes a dynamical scalaron, showing that all linearized equations are second order. Using the positivity of gravitational potentials and S-deformed technique allows us to guarantee the stability of f(R)-AdS black hole if the scalaron mass squared satisfies the Breitenlohner-Freedman bound. This is confirmed by computing quasinormal frequencies of the scalaron for large f(R)-AdS black hole.

Stability of f(R) black holes

We investigate the stability of $f(R)$ (Schwarzschild) black hole obtained from the $f(R)$ gravity. It is difficult to carry out the perturbation analysis around the black hole because the linearized Einstein equation is fourth order in $f(R)$ gravity. In order to resolve this difficulty, we transform $f(R)$ gravity into the scalar-tensor theory by introducing two auxiliary scalars. In this case, the linearized curvature scalar becomes a scalaron, showing that all linearized equations are second order, which are the same equations for the massive Brans-Dicke theory. It turns out that the $f(R)$ black hole is stable against the external perturbations if the scalaron does not have a tachyonic mass.

Stability of Schwarzschild black hole in f(R) gravity with the dynamical Chern-Simons term

We perform the stability analysis of the Schwarzschild black hole in $f(R)$ gravity with the parity-violating Chern-Simons (CS) term coupled to a dynamical scalar field $θ$. For this purpose, we transform the $f(R)$ gravity into the scalar-tensor theory by introducing a scalaron $ϕ$, providing the dynamical Chern-Simons modified gravity with two scalars. The perturbation equation for the scalar $θ$ is coupled to the odd-parity metric perturbation equation, providing a system of two coupled second order equations, while the scalaron is coupled to the even-parity perturbation equation. This implies that the CS coupling affects the Regge-Wheeler equation, while $f(R)$ gravity does not affect the Zerilli equation. It turns out that the Schwarzschild black hole is stable against the external perturbations if the scalaron is free from the tachyon.

Dilaton gravity approach to three dimensional Lifshitz black hole

The z=3 Lifshitz black hole is an exact black hole solution to the new massive gravity in three dimensions. In order to understand this black hole clearly, we perform a dimensional reduction to two dimensional dilaton gravity by utilizing the circular symmetry. Considering the linear dilaton, we find the same Lifshitz black hole in two dimensions. This implies that all thermodynamic quantities of the z=3 Lifshitz black hole could be obtained from its corresponding black hole in two dimensions. As a result, we derive the temperature, mass, heat capacity, Bekesnstein-Hawking entropy, and free energy.

Entropic force and entanglement system

We introduce the isothermal cavity, static holographic screen, and accelerating surface as holographic screen to study the entropic force in the presence of the Schwarzschild black hole. These may merge to provide a consistent holographic screen to define the entropic force on the stretched horizon near the event horizon. Considering the similarity between the stretched horizon of black hole and the entanglement system, we may define the entropic force in the entanglement system without referring the source mass.

Entropic force versus temperature force

We introduce the cavity enclosing a source mass $M$ to define the temperature force. Starting with the Tolman temperature in the stationary spacetime, we find a non-relativistic temperature $T_{non}= T_\infty(1-Φ/c^2)$ with the Newtonian potential $Φ$. This temperature could be also derived from the Tolman-Ehrenfest effect, satisfying a relation of $T=T_{\infty}e^{-Φ/c^2}$ with the local temperature $T$. Finally, we derive the temperature force $\vec{F}_{tem}=mc^2(\vec{\nabla} \ln T )$ which leads to the Newtonian force law without introducing the holographic screen defined by holographic principle and equipartition law for entropic force.

Entropy function approach to charged BTZ black hole

We find solution to the metric function f(r)=0 of charged BTZ black hole making use of the Lambert function. The condition of extremal charged BTZ black hole is determined by a non-linear relation of M_e(Q)=Q^2(1-\ln Q^2). Then, we study the entropy of extremal charged BTZ black hole using the entropy function approach. It is shown that this formalism works with a proper normalization of charge Q for charged BTZ black hole because AdS_2 x S^1 represents near-horizon geometry of the extremal charged BTZ black hole. Finally, we introduce the Wald's Noether formalism to reproduce the entropy of the extremal charged BTZ black hole without normalization when using the dilaton gravity approach.

Entropy of black holes in the deformed Hořava-Lifshitz gravity

We find the entropy of Kehagias-Sfetsos black hole in the deformed Hořava-Lifshitz gravity by using the first law of thermodynamics. When applying generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) to Schwarzschild black hole, the entropy $S=A/4+(π/ω)\ln(A/4)$ may be interpreted as the GUP-inspired black hole entropy. Hence, it implies that the duality in the entropy between the Kehagias-Sfetsos black hole and GUP-inspired Schwarzschild black hole is present.

Extremal black holes in the Hořava-Lifshitz gravity

We study the near-horizon geometry of extremal black holes in the $z=3$ Hořava-Lifshitz gravity with a flow parameter $λ$. For $λ>1/2$, near-horizon geometry of extremal black holes are AdS$_2 \times S^2$ with different radii, depending on the (modified) Hořava-Lifshitz gravity. For $1/3\le λ\le 1/2$, the radius $v_2$ of $S^2$ is negative, which means that the near-horizon geometry is ill-defined and the corresponding Bekenstein-Hawking entropy is zero. We show explicitly that the entropy function approach does not work for obtaining the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of extremal black holes.

Hawking temperature for constant curvature black bole and its analogue in de Sitter space

The constant curvature (CC) black holes are higher dimensional generalizations of BTZ black holes. It is known that these black holes have the unusual topology of ${\cal M}_{D-1}\times S^1$, where $D$ is the spacetime dimension and ${\cal M}_{D-1}$ stands for a conformal Minkowski spacetime in $D-1$ dimensions. The unusual topology and time-dependence for the exterior of these black holes cause some difficulties to derive their thermodynamic quantities. In this work, by using globally embedding approach, we obtain the Hawking temperature of the CC black holes. We find that the Hawking temperature takes the same form when using both the static an global coordinates. Also it is identical to the Gibbons-Hawking temperature of the boundary de Sitter spaces of these CC black holes. Employing the same approach, we obtain the Hawking temperature for the counterparts of CC black holes in de Sitter spaces.

Massive graviton propagation of the deformed Hořava-Lifshitz gravity without projectability condition

We study graviton propagations of scalar, vector, and tensor modes in the deformed Hořava-Lifshitz gravity ($λR$-model) without projectability condition. The quadratic Lagrangian is invariant under diffeomorphism only for $λ=1$ case, which contradicts to the fact that $λ$ is irrelevant to a consistent Hamiltonian approach to the $λR$ model. In this case, as far as scalar propagations are concerned, there is no essential difference between deformed Hořava-Lifshitz gravity ($λR$-model) and general relativity. This implies that there are two degrees of freedom for a massless graviton without Hořava scalar, and five degrees of freedom appear for a massive graviton when introducing Lorentz-violating and Fierz-Pauli mass terms. Finally, it is shown that for $λ=1$, the vDVZ discontinuity is absent in the massless limit of Lorentz-violating mass terms by considering external source terms.

The z=3 deformed Horava-Lifshitz gravity with coupling constants ωand εleads to a nonrelativistic "mixmaster" cosmological model. Nonpropagation of massive mode on AdS2 in topologically massive gravity

Making use of Achucarro-Ortiz (AO) type of dimensional reduction, we study the topologically massive gravity with a negative cosmological constant on AdS2 spacetimes. For a constant dilaton, this two-dimensional model also admits three AdS2 vacuum solutions, which are related to two AdS3 and warped AdS3 backgrounds with an identification upon uplifting three dimensions. We carry out the perturbation analysis around these backgrounds to find what is a physically propagating field. However, it turns out that there is no propagating massive mode on AdS2 background, in contrast to the Kaluza-Klein (KK) type of dimensional reduction. We note that two dimensionally reduced actions are different and thus, the non-equivalence of their on-shell amplitudes is obtained.

ADM mass and quasilocal energy of black hole in the deformed Hořava-Lifshitz gravity

Inspired by the Einstein-Born-Infeld black hole, we introduce the isolated horizon to study the Kehagias-Sfetsos (KS) black hole in the deformed Hořava-Lifshitz gravity. This is because the KS black hole is more close to the Einstein-Born-Infeld black hole than the Reissner-Nordström black hole. We find the horizon and ADM masses by using the first law of thermodynamics and the area-law entropy. The mass parameter $m$ is identified with the quasilocal energy at infinity. Accordingly, we discuss the phase transition between the KS and Schwarzschild black holes by considering the heat capacity and free energy.

Density perturbations in decaying holographic dark energy models

We study cosmological perturbations in the context of an interacting dark energy model, where the holographic dark energy with IR cutoff decays into the cold dark matter (CDM). For this purpose, we introduce three IR cutoffs of Hubble horizon, particle horizon, and future event horizon. Here we present small perturbations under the case that effective equation of state (EOS: $ω^{\rm eff}$) for the holographic energy density is determined to be the same negative constant as that for the CDM. Such new matter productions tend to dilute the density perturbations of CDM (matter contrast). For a decelerating universe of $ω^{\rm eff}>-1/3$, the matter contrast is growing as the universe evolves, while for an accelerating universe of $ω^{\rm eff}<-1/3$, the matter contrast is decaying, irrespective of the choice of IR cutoff. This shows clearly that the acceleration suppresses the growing of the density perturbations at the early universe.

Entanglement system, Casimir energy and black hole

We investigate the connection between the entanglement system in Minkowski spacetime and the black hole using the scaling analysis. Here we show that the entanglement system satisfies the Bekenstein entropy bound. Even though the entropies of two systems are the same form, the entanglement energy is different from the black hole energy. Introducing the Casimir energy of the vacuum energy fluctuations rather than the entanglement energy, it shows a feature of the black hole energy. Hence the Casimir energy is more close to the black hole than the entanglement energy. Finally, we find that the entanglement system behaves like the black hole if the gravitational effects are included properly.

Gauss-Bonnet braneworld and WMAP three year results

We compare predictions for the spectral index and tensor-scalar ratio in models of patch inflation with the WMAP three year data. There are three cases of these models of inflation, which arise in the Gauss-Bonnet braneworld scenario: Gauss-Bonnet (GB), Randall-Sundrum (RS), and 4D general relativity (GR). We consider the large-field potential $V \propto ϕ^p$ in both commutative and noncommutative spacetimes, and find that in the cases of the GB and GR patch cosmologies, the quadratic potential is observationally favored, while the quartic potential is ruled out in most patches. Strong noncommutative inflation is excluded in all cases because it leads to a blue-tilted scalar spectral index.

Equation of state for an interacting holographic dark energy model

We investigate a model of the interacting holographic dark energy with cold dark matter (CDM). If the holographic energy density decays into CDM, we find two types of the effective equation of state. In this case we have to use the effective equations of state ($ω^{\rm eff}_{\rm Λ}$) instead of the equation of state ($ω_{\rm Λ})$. For a fixed ratio of two energy densities, their effective equations of state are given by the same negative constant. Actually, the cosmic anti-friction arisen from the vacuum decay process may induce the acceleration with $ω^{\rm eff}_{\rm Λ}<-1/3$. For a variable ratio, their effective equations of state are slightly different, but they approach the same negative constant in the far future. Consequently, we show that such an interacting holographic energy model cannot accommodate a transition from the dark energy with $ω^{\rm eff}_{\rm Λ}\ge-1$ to the phantom regime with $ω^{\rm eff}_{\rm Λ}<-1$.

Inflation parameters from Gauss-Bonnet braneworld

We calculate the spectral index and tensor-to-scalar ratio for patch inflation arisen from the Gauss-Bonnet braneworld scenario. The patch cosmological models consist of Gauss-Bonnet (GB), Randall-Sundrum (RS), and 4D general relativistic (GR) cases. In order to compare with the observation data, we perform leading-order calculations for all patch models by choosing large-field, small-field, and hybrid potentials. We show that the large-field potentials are sensitive to a given patch model, while the small-field and hybrid potentials are insensitive to a given patch model. It is easier to discriminates between quadratic potential and quartic potential in the GB model rather than RS and GR models. Irrespective of patch models, it turns out that the small-field potentials are the promising models in view of the observation.

No Hawking-Page phase transition in three dimensions

We investigate whether or not the Hawking-Page phase transition is possible to occur in three dimensions. Starting with the simplest class of Lanczos-Lovelock action, thermodynamic behavior of all AdS-type black holes without charge falls into two classes: Schwarzschild-AdS black holes in even dimensions and Chern-Simons black holes in odd dimensions. The former class can provide the Hawking-Page transition between Schwarzschild-AdS black holes and thermal AdS space. On the other hand, the latter class is exceptional and thus the Hawking-Page transition is hard to occur. In three dimensions, a second-order phase transition might occur between the non-rotating BTZ black hole and the massless BTZ black hole (thermal AdS space), instead of the first-order Hawking-Page transition between the non-rotating BTZ black hole and thermal AdS space.

Sourced Friedmann equations with holographic energy density

We reexamine cosmological applications of the holographic energy density in the framework of sourced Friedmann equations. This framework is suitable because it can accommodate a macroscopic interaction between holographic and ordinary matter naturally. In the case that the holographic energy density decays into dust matter, we propose a microscopic mechanism to generate an accelerating phase. Actually, the cosmic anti-friction arisen from the decay process induces acceleration. For examples, we introduce two IR cutoffs of Hubble horizon and future event horizon to test this framework. As a result, it is shown that the equations of state for the holographic energy density are determined to be the same negative constants as those for the dust matter.

Holographic principle and dark energy

We discuss the relationship between holographic entropy bounds and gravitating systems. In order to obtain a holographic energy density, we introduce the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy $S_{\rm BH}$ and its corresponding energy $E_{\rm BH}$ using the Friedman equation. We show that the holographic energy bound proposed by Cohen {\it et al} comes from the Bekenstein-Hawking bound for a weakly gravitating system. Also we find that the holographic energy density with the future event horizon deriving an accelerating universe could be given by vacuum fluctuations of the energy density.
