Local free-fall Temperature of modified Schwarzschild black hole in rainbow spacetime

We obtain a (5+1)-dimensional global flat embedding of modified Schwarzschild black hole in rainbow gravity. We show that local free-fall temperature in rainbow gravity, which depends on different energy $ω$ of a test particle, is finite at the event horizon for a freely falling observer, while local temperature is divergent at the event horizon for a fiducial observer. Moreover, these temperatures in rainbow gravity satisfy similar relations to those of the Schwarzschild black hole except overall factor $g(ω)$, which plays a key role of rainbow functions in this embedding approach.

Thermodynamic stability of modified Schwarzschild-AdS black hole in rainbow gravity

In this paper, we have extended the previous study of the thermodynamics and phase transition of the Schwarzschild black hole in the rainbow gravity to the Schwarzschild-AdS black hole where metric depends on the energy of a probe. Making use of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle and the modified dispersion relation, we have obtained the modified local Hawking temperature and thermodynamic quantities in an isothermal cavity. Moreover, we carry out the analysis of constant temperature slices of a black hole. As a result, we have shown that there also exists another Hawking-Page-like phase transition in which case a locally stable small black hole tunnels into a globally stable large black hole as well as the standard Hawking-Page phase transition from a hot flat space to a black hole.

Local free-fall Temperature of GMGHS Black Holes

We obtain a (5+1)-dimensional global flat embedding of the Gibbons-Maeda-Garfinkle-Horowitz-Strominger spacetime in Einstein frame, and a (5+2)-dimensional global flat embedding in string frame. We show that the local free-fall temperatures for freely falling observers in each frames are finite at the event horizons, while the local temperatures for fiducial observers are divergent. We also observe that the local free-fall temperatures differ between the two frames.

BRST quantization of a sixth-order derivative scalar field theory

We study a sixth order derivative scalar field model in Minkowski spacetime as a toy model of higher-derivative critical gravity theories. This model is consistently quantized when using the Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) quantization scheme even though it does not show gauge symmetry manifestly. Imposing a BRST quartet generated by two scalars and ghosts, there remains a non-trivial subspace with positive norm. This might be interpreted as a Minkowskian dual version of the unitary truncation in the logarithmic conformal field theory.

preprint2013arXiv

Massive logarithmic graviton in the critical generalized massive gravity

We study the generalized massive gravity in three dimensional flat spacetime. A massive logarithmic mode is propagating in the flat spacetime at the critical point where two masses degenerate. Furthermore, we discuss the logarithmic extension of the Galilean conformal algebra (GCA) which may arise from the exotic and standard rank-2 logarithmic conformal field theory (LCFT) on the boundary of AdS3 spacetime.

Quantization of n coupled scalar field theory

We study a model of n coupled scalar fields in Minkowski spacetime where all masses degenerate, which is considered as a toy model of polycritical gravity on AdS spacetime. We quantize this model within the Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin (BRST) scheme by introducing n Faddeev-Popov (FP) ghost fields. Extending a BRST quartet generated by two scalars and two FP ghosts to n scalars and n FP ghosts, there remains a physical subspace with positive norm for odd n, but there exists only the vacuum for even n. This clearly shows a non-triviality of odd-higher order derivative scalar field theories. This is helpful to understand the truncation mechanism which is used to obtain a unitary conformal field theory dual to linearized polycritical gravity. It turns out that the truncation mechanism is nothing but a general quartet mechanism appeared when introducing the FP ghost action.

Quasinormal frequencies using the hidden conformal symmetry of the Schwarzschild black hole

We show that the hidden conformal symmetry of the Schwarzschild black hole is realized from the AdS$_2$ sector of the AdS$_2\times S^2$, but not from the Rindler spacetime which is the genuine near-horizon geometry of the Schwarzschild black hole. This implies that purely imaginary quasinormal frequencies obtained using the hidden conformal symmetry is not suitable for describing the largely damped modes around the Schwarzschild black hole.

Quasinormal modes and hidden conformal symmetry in the Reissner-Nordstrom black hole

It is shown that the scalar wave equation in the near-horizon limit respects a hidden SL(2,R) invariance in the Reissner-Nordstrom (RN) black hole spacetimes. We use the SL(2,R) symmetry to determine algebraically the purely imaginary quasinormal frequencies of the RN black hole. We confirm that these are exactly quasinormal modes of scalar perturbation around the near-extremal black hole.

Quasinormal modes around the BTZ black hole at the tricritical generalized massive gravity

Employing the operator method, we obtain log-square quasinormal modes and frequencies of a graviton around the BTZ black hole at the tricritical point of the generalized massive gravity. The log-square quasinormal frequencies are also obtained by considering a finite temperature conformal field theory. This shows the AdS/LCFT correspondence at the tricritical point approximately. We discuss a truncation process to the unitary theory on the BTZ black hole background.

Spin-3 quasinormal modes of BTZ black hole

Using the operator approach, we obtain quasinormal modes (QNMs) of BTZ black hole in spin-3 topologically massive gravity by solving the first-order equation of motion with the transverse-traceless condition. We find that these are different from those obtained when solving the second-order differential equation for the third-rank tensor of spin-3 field subject to suitable boundary conditions and having the sign ambiguity of mass. However, it is shown clearly that two approaches to the left-moving QNMs are identical, while the right-moving QNMs of solving the second-order equation are given by descendants of the operator approach.

Classical stability of BTZ black hole in new massive gravity

We study the stability of the BTZ black hole in the new massive gravity. This is a nontrivial task because the linearized equation around the BTZ black hole background is a fourth order differential equation. Away from the critical point of $m^2 l^2=1/2$, this fourth order equation is split into two second order equations: one describes a massless graviton and the other is designed for a massive graviton, which could be obtained from the Fierz-Pauli action. In this case, calculating quasinormal modes leads to confirm the stability of the BTZ black hole. At the critical point, we derive two left and right logarithmic quasinormal modes from the logarithmic conformal field theory. Finally, we identify two $s$-massive modes propagating on the black hole background through the conventional black hole stability analysis.

Critical gravity on AdS2 spacetimes

We study the critical gravity in two dimensional AdS (AdS$_2$) spacetimes, which was obtained from the cosmological topologically massive gravity (TMG$_Λ$) in three dimensions by using the Kaluza-Klein dimensional reduction. We perform the perturbation analysis around AdS$_2$, which may correspond to the near-horizon geometry of the extremal BTZ black hole obtained from the TMG$_Λ$ with identification upon uplifting three dimensions. A massive propagating scalar mode $δF$ satisfies the second-order differential equation away from the critical point of $K=l$, whose solution is given by the Bessel functions. On the other hand, $δF$ satisfies the fourth-order equation at the critical point. We exactly solve the fourth-order equation, and compare it with the log-gravity in two dimensions. Consequently, the critical gravity in two dimensions could not be described by a massless scalar $δF_{\rm ml}$ and its logarithmic partner $δF^{\rm 4th}_{\rm log}$.

preprint2011arXiv

Nonexistence of quasinormal modes in the extremal BTZ black hole

We show that quasinormal modes cannot exist in the extremal BTZ black hole. For this purpose, we consider propagations of a minimally coupled scalar and a single massive graviton obtained from the cosmological topologically massive gravity on the extremal BTZ black hole. The would-be quasinormal modes for a scalar and graviton could not exist because it is impossible to make an ingoing flux into the extremal (degenerate) horizon. This is consistent with the argument that there is no propagating dynamics in the self-dual orbifold of AdS(3) which is just the near-horizon limit of the extremal BTZ black hole.

Dilaton gravity approach to three dimensional Lifshitz black hole

The z=3 Lifshitz black hole is an exact black hole solution to the new massive gravity in three dimensions. In order to understand this black hole clearly, we perform a dimensional reduction to two dimensional dilaton gravity by utilizing the circular symmetry. Considering the linear dilaton, we find the same Lifshitz black hole in two dimensions. This implies that all thermodynamic quantities of the z=3 Lifshitz black hole could be obtained from its corresponding black hole in two dimensions. As a result, we derive the temperature, mass, heat capacity, Bekesnstein-Hawking entropy, and free energy.

Entropic force and entanglement system

We introduce the isothermal cavity, static holographic screen, and accelerating surface as holographic screen to study the entropic force in the presence of the Schwarzschild black hole. These may merge to provide a consistent holographic screen to define the entropic force on the stretched horizon near the event horizon. Considering the similarity between the stretched horizon of black hole and the entanglement system, we may define the entropic force in the entanglement system without referring the source mass.

preprint2010arXiv

Entropic force versus temperature force

We introduce the cavity enclosing a source mass $M$ to define the temperature force. Starting with the Tolman temperature in the stationary spacetime, we find a non-relativistic temperature $T_{non}= T_\infty(1-Φ/c^2)$ with the Newtonian potential $Φ$. This temperature could be also derived from the Tolman-Ehrenfest effect, satisfying a relation of $T=T_{\infty}e^{-Φ/c^2}$ with the local temperature $T$. Finally, we derive the temperature force $\vec{F}_{tem}=mc^2(\vec{\nabla} \ln T )$ which leads to the Newtonian force law without introducing the holographic screen defined by holographic principle and equipartition law for entropic force.

Entropy function approach to charged BTZ black hole

We find solution to the metric function f(r)=0 of charged BTZ black hole making use of the Lambert function. The condition of extremal charged BTZ black hole is determined by a non-linear relation of M_e(Q)=Q^2(1-\ln Q^2). Then, we study the entropy of extremal charged BTZ black hole using the entropy function approach. It is shown that this formalism works with a proper normalization of charge Q for charged BTZ black hole because AdS_2 x S^1 represents near-horizon geometry of the extremal charged BTZ black hole. Finally, we introduce the Wald's Noether formalism to reproduce the entropy of the extremal charged BTZ black hole without normalization when using the dilaton gravity approach.

Extremal black holes in the Hořava-Lifshitz gravity

We study the near-horizon geometry of extremal black holes in the $z=3$ Hořava-Lifshitz gravity with a flow parameter $λ$. For $λ>1/2$, near-horizon geometry of extremal black holes are AdS$_2 \times S^2$ with different radii, depending on the (modified) Hořava-Lifshitz gravity. For $1/3\le λ\le 1/2$, the radius $v_2$ of $S^2$ is negative, which means that the near-horizon geometry is ill-defined and the corresponding Bekenstein-Hawking entropy is zero. We show explicitly that the entropy function approach does not work for obtaining the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of extremal black holes.

Local free-fall temperature of a RN-AdS black hole

We use the global embedding Minkowski space (GEMS) geometries of a (3+1)-dimensional curved Reissner-Nordström(RN)-AdS black hole spacetime into a (5+2)-dimensional flat spacetime to define a proper local temperature, which remains finite at the event horizon, for freely falling observers outside a static black hole. Our extended results include the known limiting cases of the RN, Schwarzschild--AdS, and Schwarzschild black holes.

Mixmaster universe in the z=3 deformed Hořava-Lifshitz gravity

The z=3 deformed Horava-Lifshitz gravity with coupling constants ωand εleads to a nonrelativistic "mixmaster" cosmological model. The potential of theory is given by the sum of IR and UV potentials in the ADM Hamiltonian formalism. It turns out that the presence of the UV-potential cannot suppress chaotic behaviors existing in the IR-potential, which comes from curvature anisotropy.

preprint2010arXiv

Nonpropagation of massive mode on AdS2 in topologically massive gravity

Making use of Achucarro-Ortiz (AO) type of dimensional reduction, we study the topologically massive gravity with a negative cosmological constant on AdS2 spacetimes. For a constant dilaton, this two-dimensional model also admits three AdS2 vacuum solutions, which are related to two AdS3 and warped AdS3 backgrounds with an identification upon uplifting three dimensions. We carry out the perturbation analysis around these backgrounds to find what is a physically propagating field. However, it turns out that there is no propagating massive mode on AdS2 background, in contrast to the Kaluza-Klein (KK) type of dimensional reduction. We note that two dimensionally reduced actions are different and thus, the non-equivalence of their on-shell amplitudes is obtained.

Thermodynamics of Hořava-Lifshitz black holes

We study black holes in the Hořava-Lifshitz gravity with a parameter $λ$. For $1/3 \le λ< 3$, the black holes behave the Lifshitz black holes with dynamical exponent $0 < z \le 4$, while for $λ> 3$, the black holes behave the Reissner-Nordström type black hole in asymptotically flat spacetimes. Hence, these all are quite different from the Schwarzschild-AdS black hole of Einstein gravity. The temperature, mass, entropy, and heat capacity are derived for investigating thermodynamic properties of these black holes.

Thermodynamics and evaporation of the noncommutative black hole

We investigate the thermodynamics of the noncommutative black hole whose static picture is similar to that of the nonsingular black hole known as the de Sitter-Schwarzschild black hole. It turns out that the final remnant of extremal black hole is a thermodynamically stable object. We describe the evaporation process of this black hole by using the noncommutativity-corrected Vaidya metric. It is found that there exists a close relationship between thermodynamic approach and evaporation process.

Complete BFT Embedding of Massive Theory with One- and Two-form Gauge Fields

We study the constraint structure of the topologically massive theory with one- and two-form fields in the framework of Batalin-Fradkin-Tyutin embedding procedure. Through this analysis we obtain a new type of Wess-Jumino action with novel symmetry, which is originated from the topological coupling term, as well as the Stückelberg action related to the explicit gauge breaking mass terms from the original theory.

Improved Hamilton-Jacobi Quantization for Nonholonomic Constrained System

The nonholonomic constrained system with second-class constraints is investigated using the Hamilton-Jacobi (HJ) quantization scheme to yield the complete equations of motion of the system. Although the integrability conditions in the HJ scheme are equivalent to the involutive relations for the first-class constrained system in the improved Dirac quantization method (DQM), one should elaborate the HJ scheme by using the improved DQM in order to obtain the first-class Hamiltonian and the corresponding effective Lagrangian having the BRST invariant nonholonomic constrained system.

Batalin-Tyutin Quantization of the Chern-Simons-Proca Theory

We quantize the Chern-Simons-Proca theory in three dimensions by using the Batalin-Tyutin Hamiltonian method, which systematically embeds second class constraint system into first class by introducing new fields in the extended phase space. As results, we obtain simultaneously the Stückelberg scalar term, which is needed to cancel the gauge anomaly due to the mass term, and the new type of Wess-Zumino action, which is irrelevant to the gauge symmetry. We also investigate the infrared property of the Chern-Simons-Proca theory by using the Batalin-Tyutin formalism comparing with the symplectic formalism. As a result, we observe that the resulting theory is precisely the gauge invariant Chern-Simons-Proca quantum mechanical version of this theory.
