Angular correlation and deformed Hellings-Downs curve from spin-2 ultralight dark matter

The pulsar timings are sensitive to both the nanohertz gravitational-wave background and the oscillation of ultralight dark matter. The Hellings-Downs angular correlation curve provides a criterion to search for stochastic gravitational-wave backgrounds at nanohertz via pulsar timing arrays. We study the angular correlation of the timing residuals induced by the spin-2 ultralight dark matter, which is different from the usual Hellings-Downs correlation. At a typical frequency, we show that the spin-2 ultralight dark matter can give rise to the deformation of the Hellings-Downs correlation curve induced by the stochastic gravitational wave background.

Probing Spin-2 Ultralight Dark Matter with Space-based Gravitational Wave Detectors in the mHz Regime

Spin-2 ultralight dark matter (ULDM) is a viable dark matter candidate and it can be constrained using gravitational wave (GW) observations. In this paper, we investigate the detectability of spin-2 ULDM by space-based GW interferometers. By considering a direct coupling between spin-2 ULDM and ordinary matter, we derive the corresponding response functions and sensitivity curves for various time-delay interferometry channels and calculate the optimal sensitivity curves for future millihertz GW detectors. Our results demonstrate that the space-based detectors can place stringent constraints on the coupling constant of spin-2 ULDM, reaching $α\sim 10^{-10}$ around a mass of $m \sim 10^{-17} \rm eV$, surpassing current limits from ground-based detectors and pulsar timing arrays. Thus, the space-based GW detectors can serve as powerful tools not only for detecting GWs but also for probing fundamental properties of ultralight dark matter.

Slowly rotating charges from Weyl double copy for Kerr black hole with Chern-Simons correction

The Weyl double copy builds the relation between gauge theory and gravity theory, especially the correspondence between gauge solutions and gravity solutions. In this paper, we obtain the slowly rotating charge solutions from Weyl double copy for the Kerr black hole with small Chern-Simons correction. Based on the Weyl double copy relation, for the Petrov type D solution, we find the additional correction to the electromagnetic field strength tensor of rotating charge. For the Petrov type I solution, we find that the additional electromagnetic field strength tensors have the exogenous properties, while the total sources vanish at the leading order.

Dark Fluxes from Accreting Black Holes and Direct Detections

We discuss the possibility that accreting black hole systems can be sources for dark matter flux through several different mechanisms. We firstly discuss two types of systems: coronal thermal plasmas around supermassive black holes in active galactic nuclei (AGNs), and accretion disks of stellar-mass X-ray black hole binaries (BHBs). We explore how these black hole systems may produce keV light dark matter fluxes and find that the dark fluxes from those sources might be too weak to account for the current XENON1T excess. On the other hand, black holes can be good accelerators to accrete and boost heavy dark matter particles. If considering collisions or dark electromagnetism, those particles can then escape and reach the benchmark speed of 0.1c at the detector. We also extend the black hole mass region to primordial black holes (PBHs) and discuss the possibility of contributing to keV light dark flux via superradiance of PBHs.

Pulsar Timing Residual induced by Wideband Ultralight Dark Matter with Spin 0, 1, 2

The coherent oscillation of ultralight dark matter in the mass regime around $10^{-23}$ eV induces changes in gravitational potential with the frequency in the nanohertz range. This effect is known to produce a monochromatic signal in the pulsar timing residuals. Here we discuss a multifield scenario that produces a wide spectrum of frequencies, such that the ultralight particle oscillation can mimic the pulsar timing signal of stochastic common spectrum process. We discuss how ultralight dark matter with various spins produces such a wide band spectrum on pulsar timing residuals and perform the Bayesian analysis to constrain the parameters. It turns out that the stochastic background detected by NANOGrav can be associated with a wideband ultralight dark matter.

Correction Method for the Readout Saturation of the DAMPE Calorimeter

The DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) is a space-borne high energy cosmic-ray and $γ$-ray detector which operates smoothly since the launch on December 17, 2015. The bismuth germanium oxide (BGO) calorimeter is one of the key sub-detectors of DAMPE used for energy measurement and electron proton identification. For events with total energy deposit higher than decades of TeV, the readouts of PMTs coupled on the BGO crystals would become saturated, which results in an underestimation of the energy measurement. Based on detailed simulations, we develop a correction method for the saturation effect according to the shower development topologies and energies measured by neighbouring BGO crystals. The verification with simulated and on-orbit events shows that this method can well reconstruct the energy deposit in the saturated BGO crystal.

Universal Upper Bound on the Inflationary Energy Scale from the Trans-Planckian Censorship Conjecture

We study the constraint on the inflationary energy scale from the recently proposed Trans-Planckian Censorship Conjecture (TCC). We find a universal upper bound on the inflationary Hubble expansion rate $H_\text{inf}$ which is solely determined by the reheating temperature $T_\text{rh}$: $H_\text{inf}/M_\text{Pl}\lesssim T_0/T_\text{rh}$, where $T_0$ is the photon temperature today. The upper limit can be saturated by a post-inflationary oscillatory stage with the critical equation-of-state parameter $w\approx-1/3$, or by an inflation model with multiple stages. In the lowest reheating temperature required for big bang nucleosynthesis, the upper bound on the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$ at the CMB scales is $r\lesssim10^{-8}$, which can be realized in many string-inspired inflation models.

Engineering Holographic Superconductor Phase Diagrams

We study how to engineer holographic models with features of a high temperature superconductor phase diagram. We introduce a field in the bulk which provides a tunable "doping" parameter in the boundary theory. By designing how this field changes the effective masses of other order parameter fields, desired phase diagrams can be engineered. We give examples of generating phase diagrams with phase boundaries similar to a superconducting dome and an anti-ferromagnetic phase by including two order parameter fields. We also explore whether the pseudo gap phase can be described without adding another order parameter field and discuss the potential scaling symmetry associated with a quantum critical point hidden under the superconducting dome in this phase diagram.

Horizon supertranslation and degenerate black hole solutions

In this note we first review the degenerate vacua arising from the BMS symmetries. According to the discussion in [1] one can define BMS-analogous supertranslation and superrotation for spacetime with black hole in Gaussian null coordinates. In the leading and subleading orders of near horizon approximation, the infinitely degenerate black hole solutions are derived by considering Einstein equations with or without cosmological constant, and they are related to each other by the diffeomorphism generated by horizon supertranslation. Higher order results and degenerate Rindler horizon solutions also are given in appendices.

Composite-particle hydrodynamics from dyonic black branes

We construct effective hydrodynamics for composite particles in (2+1) dimensions carrying a magnetic flux by employing a holographic approach. The hydrodynamics is obtained by perturbation of the dyonic black brane solutions in the derivative expansion. We introduce a consistent way to avoid mixing of different orders in the expansion. Thanks to this method, it is possible to take the strong external magnetic field limit in the dual field theory. To compare our result with those for a composite particle system, we study several cases that correspond to special solutions of Einstein's equation and Maxwell's equations.

Holographic Interpretation of Acoustic Black Holes

With the attempt to find the holographic description of usual acoustic black holes in fluid, we construct an acoustic black hole formed in the $d$-dimensional fluid located at the timelike cutoff surface of a neutral black brane in asymptotically AdS$_{d+1}$ spacetime, the bulk gravitational dual of the acoustic black hole is presented at first order of the hydrodynamic fluctuation. Moreover, the Hawking-like temperature of the acoustic black hole horizon is showed to be connected to the Hawking temperature of the real AdS black brane in the bulk, and the duality between the phonon scattering in the acoustic black hole and the sound channel quasinormal mode propagating in the bulk perturbed AdS black brane is extracted. We thus point out that, the acoustic black hole appeared in fluid, which was originally proposed as an analogous model to simulate Hawking radiation of the real black hole, is not merely an analogy, it can indeed be used to describe specific properties of the real AdS black holes, in the spirits of the fluid/gravity duality.

On dRGT massive gravity with degenerate reference metrics

In dRGT massive gravity, to get the equations of motion, the square root tensor is assumed to be invertible in the variation of the action. However, this condition can not be fulfilled when the reference metric is degenerate. This implies that the resulting equations of motion might be different from the case where the reference metric has full rank. In this paper, by generalizing the Moore-Penrose inverse to the symmetric tensor on Lorentz manifolds, we get the equations of motion of the theory with degenerate reference metric. It is found that the equations of motion are a little bit different from those in the non-degenerate cases. Based on the result of the equations of motion, for the $(2+n)$-dimensional solutions with the symmetry of $n$-dimensional maximally symmetric space, we prove a generalized Birkhoff theorem in the case where the degenerate reference metric has rank $n$, i.e., we show that the solutions must be Schwarzschild-type or Nariai-Bertotti-Robinson-type under the assumptions.

Topolgical Charged Black Holes in Generalized Horava-Lifshitz Gravity

As a candidate of quantum gravity in ultrahigh energy, the $(3+1)$-dimensional Hořava-Lifshitz (HL) gravity with critical exponent $z\ne 1$, indicates anisotropy between time and space at short distance. In the paper, we investigate the most general $z=d$ Hořava-Lifshitz gravity in arbitrary spatial dimension $d$, with a generic dynamical Ricci flow parameter $λ$ and a detailed balance violation parameter $ε$. In arbitrary dimensional generalized HL$_{d+1}$ gravity with $z\ge d$ at long distance, we study the topological neutral black hole solutions with general $λ$ in $z=d$ HL$_{d+1}$, as well as the topological charged black holes with $λ=1$ in $z=d$ HL$_{d+1}$. The HL gravity in the Lagrangian formulation is adopted, while in the Hamiltonian formulation, it reduces to Dirac$-$De Witt's canonical gravity with $λ=1$. In particular, the topological charged black holes in $z=5$ HL$_6$, $z=4$ HL$_5$, $z=3,4$ HL$_4$ and $z=2$ HL$_3$ with $λ=1$ are solved. Their asymptotical behaviors near the infinite boundary and near the horizon are explored respectively. We also study the behavior of the topological black holes in the $(d+1)$-dimensional HL gravity with $U(1)$ gauge field in the zero temperature limit and finite temperature limit, respectively. Thermodynamics of the topological charged black holes with $λ=1$, including temperature, entropy, heat capacity, and free energy are evaluated.

Petrov type I Condition and Dual Fluid Dynamics

Recently Lysov and Strominger [arXiv:1104.5502] showed that imposing Petrov type I condition on a $(p+1)$-dimensional timelike hypersurface embedded in a $(p+2)$-dimensional vacuum Einstein gravity reduces the degrees of freedom in the extrinsic curvature of the hypersurface to that of a fluid on the hypersurface, and that the leading-order Einstein constraint equations in terms of the mean curvature of the embedding give the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations of the dual fluid. In this paper we show that the non-relativistic fluid dual to vacuum Einstein gravity does not satisfy the Petrov type I condition at next order, unless additional constraint such as the irrotational condition is added. In addition, we show that this procedure can be inversed to derive the non-relativistic hydrodynamics with higher order corrections through imposing the Petrov type I condition, and that some second order transport coefficients can be extracted, but the dual "Petrov type I fluid" does not match the dual fluid constructed from the geometry of vacuum Einstein gravity in the non-relativistic limit. We discuss the procedure both on the finite cutoff surface via the non-relativistic hydrodynamic expansion and on the highly accelerated surface via the near horizon expansion.

Petrov type I Condition and Rindler Fluid in Vacuum Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet Gravity

Recently the Petrov type I condition is introduced to reduce the degrees of freedom in the extrinsic curvature of a timelike hypersurface to the degrees of freedom in the dual Rindler fluid in Einstein gravity. In this paper we show that the Petrov type I condition holds for the solutions of vacuum Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity up to the second order in the relativistic hydrodynamic expansion. On the other hand, if imposing the Petrov type I condition and Hamiltonian constraint on a finite cutoff hypersurface, the stress tensor of the relativistic Rindler fluid in vacuum Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity can be recovered with correct first order and second order transport coefficients.

Petrov type I Spacetime and Dual Relativistic Fluids

The Petrov type I condition for the solutions of vacuum Einstein equations in both of the non-relativistic and relativistic hydrodynamic expansions is checked. We show that it holds up to the third order of the non-relativistic hydrodynamic expansion parameter, but it is violated at the fourth order even if we choose a general frame. On the other hand, it is found that the condition holds at least up to the second order of the derivative expansion parameter. Turn the logic around, through imposing the Petrov type I condition and Hamiltonian constraint on a finite cutoff surface, we show that the stress tensor of the relativistic fluid can be recovered with correct first order and second order transport coefficients dual to the solutions of vacuum Einstein equations.

Thermodynamics of Black Holes in Massive Gravity

We present a class of charged black hole solutions in an ($n+2)$-dimensional massive gravity with a negative cosmological constant, and study thermodynamics and phase structure of the black hole solutions both in grand canonical ensemble and canonical ensemble. The black hole horizon can have a positive, zero or negative constant curvature characterized by constant $k$. By using Hamiltonian approach, we obtain conserved charges of the solutions and find black hole entropy still obeys the area formula and the gravitational field equation at the black hole horizon can be cast into the first law form of black hole thermodynamics. In grand canonical ensemble, we find that thermodynamics and phase structure depends on the combination $k -μ^2/4 +c_2 m^2$ in the four dimensional case, where $μ$ is the chemical potential and $c_2m^2$ is the coefficient of the second term in the potential associated with graviton mass. When it is positive, the Hawking-Page phase transition can happen, while as it is negative, the black hole is always thermodynamically stable with a positive capacity. In canonical ensemble, the combination turns out to be $k+c_2m^2$ in the four dimensional case. When it is positive, a first order phase transition can happen between small and large black holes if the charge is less than its critical one. In higher dimensional ($n+2 \ge 5$) case, even when the charge is absent, the small/large black hole phase transition can also appear, the coefficients for the third ($c_3m^2$) and/or the fourth ($c_4m^2$) terms in the potential associated with graviton mass in the massive gravity can play the same role as the charge does in the four dimensional case.

Holographic Charged Fluid with Anomalous Current at Finite Cutoff Surface in Einstein-Maxwell Gravity

The holographic charged fluid with anomalous current in Einstein-Maxwell gravity has been generalized from the infinite boundary to the finite cutoff surface by using the gravity/fluid correspondence. After perturbing the boosted Reissner-Nordstrom (RN)-AdS black brane solution of the Einstein-Maxwell gravity with the Chern-Simons term, we obtain the first order perturbative gravitational and Maxwell solutions, and calculate the stress tensor and charged current of the dual fluid at finite cutoff surfaces which contains undetermined parameters after demanding regularity condition at the future horizon. We adopt the Dirichlet boundary condition and impose the Landau frame to fix these parameters, finally obtain the dependence of transport coefficients in the dual stress tensor and charged current on the arbitrary radical cutoff $r_c$. We find that the dual fluid is not conformal, but it has vanishing bulk viscosity, and the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio is universally $1/4π$. Other transport coefficients of the dual current turns out to be cutoff-dependent. In particular, the chiral vortical conductivity expressed in terms of thermodynamic quantities takes the same form as that of the dual fluid at the asymptotic AdS boundary, and the chiral magnetic conductivity receives a cutoff-dependent correction which vanishes at the infinite boundary.

Holographic Entanglement Entropy in Insulator/Superconductor Transition

We investigate the behaviors of entanglement entropy in the holographical insulator/superconductor phase transition. We calculate the holographic entanglement entropy for two kinds of geometry configurations in a completely back-reacted gravitational background describing the insulator/superconductor phase transition. The non-monotonic behavior of the entanglement entropy is found in this system. In the belt geometry case, there exist four phases characterized by the chemical potential and belt width.

Holographic Entanglement Entropy in P-wave Superconductor Phase Transition

We investigate the behavior of entanglement entropy across the holographic p-wave superconductor phase transition in an Einstein-Yang-Mills theory with a negative cosmological constant. The holographic entanglement entropy is calculated for a strip geometry at AdS boundary. It is found that the entanglement entropy undergoes a dramatic change as we tune the ratio of the gravitational constant to the Yang-Mills coupling, and that the entanglement entropy does behave as the thermal entropy of the background black holes. That is, the entanglement entropy will show the feature of the second order or first order phase transition when the ratio is changed. It indicates that the entanglement entropy is a good probe to investigate the properties of the holographic phase transition.

Holographic Forced Fluid Dynamics in Non-relativistic Limit

We study the thermodynamics and non-relativistic hydrodynamics of the holographic fluid on a finite cutoff surface in the Gauss-Bonnet gravity. It is shown that the isentropic flow of the fluid is equivalent to a radial component of gravitational field equations. We use the non-relativistic fluid expansion method to study the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton system with a negative cosmological constant, and obtain the holographic incompressible forced Navier-Stokes equations of the dual fluid at AdS boundary and at a finite cutoff surface, respectively. The concrete forms of external forces are given.

Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations from Einstein Gravity with Chern-Simons Term

In (2+1)-dimensional hydrodynamic systems with broken parity, the shear and bulk viscosity is joined by the Hall viscosity and curl viscosity. The dual holographic model has been constructed by coupling a pseudo scalar to the gravitational Chern-Simons term in (3+1)-dimensional bulk gravity. In this paper, we investigate the non-relativistic fluid with Hall viscosity and curl viscosity living on a finite radial cutoff surface in the bulk. Employing the non-relativistic hydrodynamic expansion method, we obtain the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations with Hall viscosity and curl viscosity. Unlike the shear viscosity, the ratio of the Hall viscosity over entropy density is found to be cutoff scale dependent, and it tends to zero when the cutoff surface approaches to the horizon of the background spacetime.

Magnetic Field Effect on the Phase Transition in AdS Soliton Spacetime

We investigate the scalar perturbations in an AdS soliton background coupled to a Maxwell field via marginally stable modes. In the probe limit, we study the magnetic field effect on the holographic insulator/superconductor phase transition numerically and analytically. The condensate will be localized in a finite circular region for any finite constant magnetic field. Near the critical point, we find that there exists a simple relation among the critical chemical potential, magnetic field, the charge and mass of the scalar field. This relation indicates that the presence of the magnetic field causes the phase transition hard.

Wilson Line Response of Holographic Superconductors in Gauss-Bonnet Gravity

We study the Wilson line response in the holographic superconducting phase transitions in Gauss-Bonnet gravity. In the black brane background case, the Little-Parks periodicity is independent of the Gauss-Bonnet parameter, while in the AdS soliton case, there is no evidence for the Little-Parks periodicity. We further study the impact of the Gauss-Bonnet term on the holographic phase transitions quantitatively. The results show that such quantum corrections can effectively affect the occurrence of the phase transitions and the response to the Wilson line.

Non-Relativistic Fluid Dual to Asymptotically AdS Gravity at Finite Cutoff Surface

Using the non-relativistic hydrodynamic expansion, we solve equations of motion for Einstein gravity and Gauss-Bonnet gravity with a negative cosmological constant within the region between a finite cutoff surface and a black brane horizon, up to the second order of the expansion parameter. Through the Brown-York tensor, we calculate the stress energy tensor of dual fluids living on the cutoff surface. With the black brane solutions, we show that for both Einstein gravity and Gauss-Bonnet gravity, the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy ensity of dual fluid does not run with the cutoff surface. The incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are also obtained in both cases.
