Relativistic corrections to $Υ$ exclusive decay into double $S-$wave charmonia

Within the framework of nonrelativisitic QCD factorization formalism, we present the next-to-leading-order relativistic corrections to $Υ$ exclusive decay into $η_c$ plus $J/ψ$. The double charmonia can be produced through several immediate channels, i.e. $Υ\to g^*g^*g^*\to η_c+J/ψ$, $Υ\to g^*g^*γ^*\to η_c+J/ψ$, and $Υ\to γ^*\to η_c+J/ψ$. The amplitudes of these three channels are obtained accurate up to ${\cal O}(α_s^3 v^2)$, ${\cal O}(αα_s^2 v^2)$, and ${\cal O}(αα_s^2 v^2)$ respectively, where $v$ indicates the typical heavy quark velocity in bottomonium and/or charmonium rest frame. The decay rates are also presented. We find the next-to-leading-order relativistic corrections to the short distance coefficients as well as the decay rates are both significant and negative, especially for the corrections from bottomonium. More seriously, the decay rates are even brought into negative by including the relativistic corrections, which indicates the poor convergence for the velocity expansion in this kind of processes. Detailed analysis is given in the paper.

Positronium decay in a circular polarized laser field

We calculate the lifetime of both the o-Ps and the p-Ps positronium annihilation decay $ Ps\toγγ$ in the strong circular polarized laser field. We take a strategy of the factorization to separate the effects caused by the Coulomb interaction and the strong laser field interaction. It is factorized in the time direction but not in the space direction. Our results show that in the laser with long wavelength and high intensity, the lifetimes of those Ps states are dramatically increased. For $\rm CO_2$ laser with $10\, μm$ wavelength and $10^{13} W/cm^2$ intensity, lifetime of the spin-single positronium is increased by $10^8$ times. Our result is consistent with those obtained by solving the Sch{ö}dinger equation. This effect may be useful for the high harmonic generation(HHG) effects provided with the Ps\cite{keitel2004}.

Order-$v^4$ Relativistic Corrections to $Υ$ Inclusive Decay into a Charm pair

In this work, we determine the short-distance coefficients for $Υ$ inclusive decay into a charm pair through relative order $v^4$ within the framework of NRQCD factorization formula. The short-distance coefficient of the order-$v^4$ color-singlet NRQCD matrix element is obtained through matching the decay rate of $b\bar{b}(^3S^{[1]}_1)\to c\bar{c}gg$ in full QCD to that in NRQCD. The double and single IR divergences appearing in the decay rate are exactly canceled through the next-to-next-to-leading-order renormalization of the operator ${\mathcal O}(^3S^{[8]}_1)$ and the next-to-leading-order renormalization of the operators ${\mathcal O}(^3P^{[8]}_J)$. To investigate the convergence of the relativistic expansion arising from the color-singlet contributions, we study the ratios of the order-$v^2$ and -$v^4$ color-singlet short-distance coefficients to the leading-order one. Our results indicate that though the order-$v^4$ color-singlet short-distance coefficient is quite large, the relativistic expansion for the color-singlet contributions in the process $Υ\to c\bar{c}+X$ is well convergent due to a small value of $v$. In addition, we extrapolate the value of the mass ratio of the charm quark to the bottom quark, and find the relativistic corrections rise quickly with increase of the mass ratio.

Relativistic corrections to the semi-inclusive decay of $\bmψ$ and $\bmΥ$

In the framework of the nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics factorization formalism, we study the processes of $ψ(nS)$ and $Υ(nS)$ decay into a lepton pair or a charm pair associated with two jets up to the next-to-leading order in velocity expansion. We present the analytic expressions for the differential decay rate to the invariant mass of the lepton pair or charm pair. We find that the ratio of the next-to-leading order short-distance coefficient to the leading order one is in the range from -5.5 to -12.4. The relativistic corrections are so large that they modify the leading order prediction significantly. Utilizing the analytic expressions, we also investigate the relativistic corrections in different kinematic regions and their dependence on the masses of the initial-state quarkonium and the final-state fermion. In addition, we study the momentum distribution of $D^{*+}$ in the process $Υ(1S)\to c\bar{c}gg\to D^{*+}X$.

Production of four-quark states with double heavy quarks at LHC

We study the hadronic production of four-quark states with double heavy quarks and double light antiquarks at LHC. The production mechanism is that a color anti-triplet diquark cluster consisting of double heavy quarks is formed first from the produced double heavy quark-antiquark pairs via $gg$ fusion hard process, followed by the fragmentation of the diquark cluster into a four-quark (tetraquark) state. Predictions for the production cross sections and their differential distributions are presented. Our results show that it is quite promising to discover these tetraquark states in LHC experiments both for large number events and for their unique signatures in detectors.

Production of Triply Heavy Baryons at LHC

Triply heavy baryons are very interesting hadrons to be explored for they provide particular information about strong interactions, hadron structures, and weak decays of heavy baryons. We calculate the hadronic production cross sections of the Ω_{ccc} and the Ω_{ccb}, which are dominated by the gg fusion subprocesses containing 4362 and 1454 Feynman diagrams, respectively. A method for generating and calculating tree level Feynman diagrams automatically is developed to deal with complicated processes containing so many diagrams. Our results show that 10^4-10^5 events of triply heavy baryons can be accumulated for 10 fb^{-1} integrated luminosity at LHC. Signatures of the triply heavy baryons are pointed out, with emphasis on the decay modes Ω_{ccc} -> Ω_{sss} + 3 π^+ and Ω_{ccb} -> Ω_{sss} + 3 π^+ +π^-. We conclude that it is quite promising to discover them at LHC.

Higher Order Corrections to the Cross Section of e+e- to Quarkonium plus gamma

The production cross sections of $e^+e^- $ to a heavy quarkonium with $C$-parity even $S-$wave and $P-$wave associated with a photon are analyzed in the framework of non-relativistic Quantum Chromodynamics(NRQCD) factorization formalism. The short-distance coefficients are determined up to the next-to-leading order(NLO) QCD radiative corrections for $S-$ and $P-$wave and NLO relativistic corrections for $S-$wave in analytical forms. Applying the results to estimate the cross sections we find that both the radiative and relativistic corrections are considerable.

QCD corrections to single slepton production at hadron colliders

We evaluate the cross section for single slepton production at hadron colliders in supersymmetric theories with R-parity violating interactions to the next-to-leading order in QCD. We obtain fully differential cross section by using the phase space slicing method. We also perform soft-gluon resummation to all order in $α_s$ of leading logarithm to obtain a complete transverse momentum spectrum of the slepton. We find that the full transverse momentum spectrum is peaked at a few GeV, consistent with the early results for Drell-Yan production of lepton pairs. We also consider the contribution from gluon fusion via quark-triangle loop diagrams dominated by the $b$-quark loop. The cross section of this process is significantly smaller than that of the tree-level process induced by the initial $b\bar{b}$ annihilation.

The meson $B_c$ annihilation to leptons and inclusive light hadrons

The annihilation of the $B_c$ meson to leptons and inclusive light hadrons is analyzed in the framework of nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization. We find that the decay mode, which escapes from the helicity suppression, contributes a sizable fraction width. According to the analysis, the branching ratio due to the contribution from the color-singlet component of the meson $B_c$ can be of order (10^{-2}). We also estimate the contributions from the color-octet components. With the velocity scaling rule of NRQCD, we find that the color-octet contributions are sizable too, especially, in certain phase space of the annihilation they are greater than (or comparative to) the color-singlet component. A few observables relevant to the spectrum of charged lepton are suggested, that may be used as measurements on the color-octet and color-singlet components in the future $B_c$ experiments. A typical long distance contribution in the annihilation is estimated too.

Decays of the Meson $B_c$ to a $P$-Wave Charmonium State $χ_c$ or $h_c$

The semileptonic decays, $B_{c}{\longrightarrow}{χ_c}(h_c)+{\ell}+{ν}_{\ell}$, and the two-body nonleptonic decays, $B_{c}{\longrightarrow}{χ_c}(h_c)+h$, (here $χ_c$ and $h_c$ denote $(c\bar c[^3P_J])$ and $(c\bar c[^1P_1])$ respectively, and $h$ indicates a meson) were computed. All of the form factors appearing in the relevant weak-current matrix elements with $B_c$ as its initial state and a $P$-wave charmonium state as its final state for the decays were precisely formulated in terms of two independent overlapping-integrations of the wave-functions of $B_c$ and the $P$-wave charmonium and with proper kinematics factors being `accompanied'. We found that the decays are quite sizable, so they may be accessible in Run-II at Tevatron and in the foreseen future at LHC, particularly, when BTeV and LHCB, the special detectors for B-physics, are borne in mind. In addition, we also pointed out that the decays $B_c\to h_c+...$ may potentially be used as a fresh window to look for the $h_c$ charmonium state, and the cascade decays, $B_c\to χ_c[^3P_{1,2}]+l+ν_l$ ($B_c\to χ_c[^3P_{1,2}]+h$) with one of the radiative decays $χ_c[^3P_{1,2}] \to J/ψ+γ$ being followed accordingly, may affect the observations of $B_c$ meson through the decays $B_{c}\to {J/ψ}+{l}+ν_{l}$ ($B_c\to J/ψ+h$) substantially.

Resummation of QCD Corrections to the eta_c Decay Rate

We examine the ratio of the decay rate of the eta_c into light hadrons to the decay rate into photons and find that most of the large next-to-leading-order (NLO) correction is associated with running of the strong coupling alpha_s. We resum such contributions by analyzing final-state chains of vacuum-polarization bubbles. We show that the nonperturbative parts of the bubble chains can be absorbed into a color-octet matrix element, once one has used contour deformations of the phase-space integrals to cancel certain contributions. We argue that these contributions are incompatible with the uncertainty principle. We also argue that perturbation theory is reliable only if one carries out the phase-space integrations before the perturbation summation. Our results are in good agreement with experiment and differ considerably from those that one obtains by applying the scale-setting method of Brodsky, Lepage, and Mackenzie to the NLO result.

Renormalon Ambiguities in NRQCD Operator Matrix Elements

We analyze the renormalon ambiguities that appear in factorization formulas in QCD. Our analysis contains a simple argument that the ambiguities in the short-distance coefficients and operator matrix elements are artifacts of dimensional-regularization factorization schemes and are absent in cutoff schemes. We also present a method for computing the renormalon ambiguities in operator matrix elements and apply it to a computation of the ambiguities in the matrix elements that appear in the NRQCD factorization formulas for the annihilation decays of S-wave quarkonia. Our results, combined with those of Braaten and Chen for the short-distance coefficients, provide an explicit demonstration that the ambiguities cancel in the physical decay rates. In addition, we analyze the renormalon ambiguities in the Gremm-Kapustin relation and in various definitions of the heavy-quark mass.

Renormalons in Electromagnetic Annihilation Decays of Quarkonium

We study the large-order asymptotic behavior of the perturbation series for short-distance coefficients in the NRQCD factorization formulas for the decays J/psi --> e^+e^- and eta_c --> gamma gamma. The short-distance coefficients of the leading matrix elements are calculated to all orders in the large-N_f limit. We find that there is a universal Borel resummable renormalon associated with the cancellation of the Coulomb singularity in the short-distance coefficients. We verify that the ambiguities in the short-distance coefficients from the first infrared renormalon are canceled by ambiguities in the nonperturbative NRQCD matrix elements that contribute through relative order v^2. Our results are used to estimate the coefficients of higher order radiative corrections in the decay rates for J/psi --> e^+ e^-, eta_c --> gamma gamma, and J/ψ--> gamma gamma gamma.

Dimensional Regularization in Quarkonium Calculations

Dimensional regularization is incompatible with the standard covariant projection methods that are used to calculate the short-distance coefficients in inclusive heavy quarkonium production and annihilation rates. A new method is developed that allows dimensional regularization to be used consistently to regularize the infrared and ultraviolet divergences that arise in these perturbative calculations. We illustrate the method by calculating the leading color-octet terms and the leading color-singlet terms in the gluon fragmentation functions for arbitrary quarkonium states. We resolve a discrepancy between two previous calculations of the gluon fragmentation functions for the spin-triplet P-wave quarkonium states.

Helicity Decomposition for Inclusive $J/ψ$ Production

We present a general method for calculating inclusive cross sections for the production of heavy quarkonium states with definite polarization within the NRQCD factorization approach. Cross sections for polarized production can involve additional matrix elements that do not contribute to cross sections for unpolarized production. They can also include interference terms between parton processes that produce $Q \bar Q$ pairs with different total angular momentum. The interference terms cancel upon summing over polarizations. Our method can be generalized to $N$ dimensions and is therefore compatible with the use of dimensional regularization to calculate radiative corrections. We illustrate the method by applying it to the production of $J/ψ$ via the parton processes $q \bar q \to c \bar c$ and $g g \to c \bar c$.

Production of the B_c Meson

The production of the B_c and B_c^* mesons was studied in the framework of the factorization formalism and perturbative QCD. Predicted results implied that an observable number of B_c and B_c^* events can be produced at LEP I and at Tevatron. The fragmentation approximation describes the production of the B_c and B_c^* mesons very well in high energy e^+e^- collisions. In hadronic collisions, it is valid when and only when the transverse momentum P_T of the produced B_c and B_c^* is much larger than the mass of the B_c meson.

Signature for Color-Octet Production of $J/ψ$ in $e^+ e^-$ Annihilation

The inclusive cross section for the production of $J/ψ$ in $e^+ e^-$ annihilation is studied using a recently developed factorization formalism. In addition to the conventional color-singlet contribution, we include contributions from $c \bar c$ pairs that are produced at short distances in color-octet states. The color-octet contributions are suppressed by the smaller probability for the color-octet $c \bar c$ pair to evolve into a state that includes a $ψ$, but they may dominate near the upper endpoint of the $ψ$ energy spectrum. The signature for the color-octet contribution is a dramatic change in the angular distribution of the $ψ$ near the endpoint.

The Hyperfine Spin Splittings In Heavy Quarkonia

The hyperfine spin splittings in heavy quarkonia are studied using the recently developed renormalization group improved spin-spin potential which is independent of the scale parameter $μ$. The calculated energy difference between the $J/ψ$ and the $η_c$ fits the experimental data well, while the predicted energy difference $ΔM_p$ between the center of the gravity of $1^3P_{0,1,2}$ states and the $1^1P_1$ state of charmonium has the correct sign but is somewhat larger than the experimental data. This is not surprising since there are several other contributions to $ΔM_p$, which we discuss, that are of comparable size ($\sim 1$ MeV) that should be included, before precise agreement with the data can be expected. The mass differences of the $ψ'-η_c'$, $Υ(1S)-η_b$, $Υ(2S)-η_b'$, and $B_c^*-B_c$ are also predicted.
