ATLAS on-Z Excess Through Vector-Like Quarks

We investigate the possibility that the excess observed in the leptonic-$Z +$jets $+\slashed{E}_T$ ATLAS SUSY search is due to pair productions of a vector-like quark $U$ decaying to the first-generation quarks and $Z$ boson. We find that the excess can be explained within the 2$σ$ (up to 1.4$σ$) level while evading the constraints from the other LHC searches. The preferred range of the mass and branching ratio are $610 < m_{U} < 760$ GeV and ${\rm Br}(U \rightarrow Z q) > 0.3$-$0.45$, respectively.

Di-Higgs Decay of Stoponium at Future Photon-Photon Collider

We study the detectability of the stoponium in the di-Higgs decay mode at the photon-photon collider option of the International $e^+e^-$ Linear Collider (ILC), whose center-of-mass energy is planned to reach $\sim 1$ TeV. We find that $5σ$ detection of the di-Higgs decay mode is possible with the integrated electron-beam luminosity of $1 {\rm ab}^{-1}$ if the signal cross section, $σ(γγ\rightarrow σ_{\tilde{t}_1} \rightarrow hh)$, of ${\cal O}(0.1)$ fb is realized for the stoponium mass smaller than $\sim$ 800 GeV at 1 TeV ILC. Such a value of the cross section can be realized in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) with relatively large trilinear stop-stop-Higgs coupling constant. Implication of the stoponium cross section measurement for the MSSM stop sector is also discussed.

Studying 750 GeV Di-photon Resonance at Photon-Photon Collider

Motivated by the recent LHC discovery of the di-photon excess at the invariant mass of ~ 750 GeV, we study the prospect of investigating the scalar resonance at a future photon-photon collider. We show that, if the di-photon excess observed at the LHC is due to a new scalar boson coupled to the standard-model gauge bosons, such a scalar boson can be observed and studied at the photon-photon collider with the center-of-mass energy of ~ 1 TeV in large fraction of parameter space.

Revisiting Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis Constraints on Dark-Matter Annihilation

We study the effects of dark-matter annihilation during the epoch of big-bang nucleosynthesis on the primordial abundances of light elements. We improve the calculation of the light-element abundances by taking into account the effects of anti-nucleons emitted by the annihilation of dark matter and the interconversion reactions of neutron and proton at inelastic scatterings of energetic nucleons. Comparing the theoretical prediction of the primordial light-element abundances with the latest observational constraints, we derive upper bounds on the dark-matter pair-annihilation cross section. Implication to some of particle-physics models are also discussed.

Heavy WIMP through Higgs portal at the LHC

LHC constraints on Higgs-portal WIMPs are studied. Scalar, vector and anti-symmetric tensor fields are considered. They are assumed to be heavier than a half of the Higgs boson mass. We investigate 8 TeV LHC results on signatures of the vector boson fusion, mono-jet and associated production of the $Z$ boson, which proceed via virtual exchange of the Higgs boson. We show that Higgs-portal interactions of the vector and tensor WIMPs are constrained to be less than 0.43 and 0.16, respectively, while those for the scalar are very weak. Prospects of the 14 TeV LHC are also discussed.

Determination of mass hierarchy with medium baseline reactor neutrino experiments

We study the sensitivity of future medium baseline reactor antineutrino experiments on the neutrino mass hierarchy. By using the standard chi^2 analysis, we find that the sensitivity depends strongly on the baseline length L and the energy resolution (delta E/E)^2 = (a/sqrt{E/MeV})^2 + b^2, where a and b parameterize the statistical and systematic uncertainties, respectively. The optimal length is found to be L ~ 40-55 km, where a slightly shorter L in the range is preferred for poorer energy resolution. The running time needed to determine the mass hierarchy also depends strongly on the energy resolution; for a 5 kton detector (with 12% weight fraction of free proton) placed at L ~ 50 km away from a 20 GW_{th} reactor, three-sigma determination needs 14 years of running with a = 3% and b = 0.5%, which can be reduced to 5 years if a = 2% and b = 0.5%. On the other hand, the experiment can measure the mixing parameters accurately, achieving delta sin^2(2theta_{12}) ~ 4*10^{-3}, delta (m_2^2-m_1^2) ~ 0.03*10^{-5} eV^2, and delta |m_3^2 -m_1^2| ~ 0.007*10^{-3} eV^2, in 5 years, almost independently of the energy resolution for a < 3% and b < 1%. In order to compare our simple (Delta chi^2)_{min} results with those obtained by simulating many experiments, we develop an efficient method to estimate the uncertainty of (Delta chi^2)_{min}, and the probability for determining the right mass hierarchy by an experiment is presented as a function of the mean (Delta chi^2)_{min}.

Determination of the mass hierarchy with medium-baseline reactor-neutrino experiments

I discuss the sensitivity of future medium baseline reactor antineutrino experiments on the neutrino mass hierarchy. By using the standard chi^2 analysis, we find that the sensitivity depends strongly on the baseline length L and the energy resolution (delta E/E)^2 = (a/ E/MeV)^2 + b^2, where a and b parameterize the statistical and systematic uncertainties, respectively. The optimal length is found to be L ~ 40-55 km, the larger resolution the shorter optimal L. For a 5 kton detector (with 12% weight fraction of free proton) placed at L ~ 50 km away from a 20 GW_th reactor, an experiment would determine the mass hierarchy with (Delta chi^2)_min ~ 9 on average after 5 (15) or more years of running with the (a, b) = (2, 0.5)% ((3, 0.5)%) energy resolution. This type of experiment can also measure the relevant mixing parameters with the accuracy of ~ 0.5%.

Collider signatures of goldstini in gauge mediation

We investigate the collider signatures of the multiple goldstini scenario in the framework of gauge mediation. This class of models is characterized by a visible sector (e.g. the MSSM or any extension) coupled by gauge interactions to more than one SUSY breaking sector. The spectrum consists of a light gravitino LSP, behaving as a goldstino, and a number of neutral fermions (the pseudo-goldstini) with a mass between that of the LSP and that of the lightest particle of the observable sector (LOSP). We consider the two situations where the LOSP is either a gaugino-like neutralino or a stau and we assume only one pseudo-goldstino of a mass of O(100) GeV. The coupling of the LOSP to the pseudo-goldstino can be enhanced with respect to those of the gravitino giving rise to characteristic signatures. We show that the decay modes of the LOSP into a SM particle and a pseudo-goldstino can be significant. For both LOSP scenarios we analyze (pseudo)-goldstini production at colliders. Compared to standard gauge mediation the final state spectrum is softer and more structured.

On the W+4 jets background to the top quark asymmetry at the Tevatron

We investigate the possibility that the W+4 jets background is a source of the anomalously large top-antitop (tt) charge asymmetry observed at the Tevatron. We simulate the tt reconstruction of the signal and background events at the matrix-element level and find that the reconstructed tt candidates from the W +4 jets background could give large forward-backward asymmetry. We suggest serious re-evaluation of the W+4 jets background for the tt candidate events by studying the distributions of the reconstructed tt systems in their rapidity difference, the transverse momentum of the top quark, and that of the tt system, which can differ significantly from those of the QCD tt production events especially at high tt invariant mass.

Generating QCD amplitudes in the color-flow basis with MadGraph

We propose to make use of the off-shell recursive relations with the color-flow decomposition in the calculation of QCD amplitudes on MadGraph. We introduce colored quarks and their interactions with nine gluons in the color-flow basis plus an Abelian gluon on MadGraph, such that it generates helicity amplitudes in the color-flow basis with off-shell recursive formulae for multi-gluon sub-amplitudes. We demonstrate calculations of up to 5-jet processes such as $gg\rightarrow 5g$, $u\bar{u}\rightarrow 5g$ and $uu\rightarrow uuggg$. Although our demonstration is limited, it paves the way to evaluate amplitudes with more quark lines and gluons with Madgraph.
