Determining Strong Phase of $a_1$ Meson Decay Amplitude using $W \to ντ(\to νa_1(\toπ^\mp π^\mp π^\pm))$ Process

To measure the helicity of a spin-1 meson from the triple vector product of the three-momenta of its decay products, one needs information about the strong phase of the decay amplitude. In this paper, taking $a_1(1260)$ meson as an example, we present a method to extract information about the strong phase from the triple vector product of the pion momenta in $W \to ντ(\to νa_1(\toπ^\mp π^\mp π^\pm))$ process, where the $a_1$ helicity is known a priori from electroweak theory. This process is advantageous in that highly-boosted $a_1^-$ mesons from $τ_L^-$ decays have nearly maximal helicity asymmetry and thus most reflect the strong phase. We revisit the theoretical calculation of the $a_1$ meson helicity in $W \to ντ(\to νa_1)$ process. We formulate the differential decay rate of polarized $a_1$ mesons in a manner convenient for the study of the $a_1$ meson helicity asymmetry. Finally, we present the method for extracting information about the strong phase, and assess its feasibility at the LHC.

QED and QCD helicity amplitudes in parton-shower gauge

We introduce photon and gluon propagators in which the scalar polarization component is subtracted systematically by making use of the BRST invariance of the off-shell vector boson created from physical on-shell states. The propagator has the light-cone gauge form, where the spacial component of the gauge vector points along the negative of the off-shell vector boson momentum. We call the gauge as parton-shower gauge, since in collinear configurations the absolute value squared of each Feynman amplitude reproduces all the singular behaviors of the corresponding parton shower in this gauge. We introduce new HELAS codes that can be used to calculate the tree-level helicity amplitudes of arbitrary QED and QCD processes by using MadGraph. The absence of subtle gauge cancellation among Feynman amplitudes allows numerical codes to evaluate singular behaviors accurately, and helps us gaining physical insights on interference patterns.

An equal-velocity scenario for hiding dark matter at the LHC

We consider a light supersymmetric top quark (stop) scenario, where a stop and a neutralino are the lightest supersymmetric particles and the stop mass is close to the sum of the neutralino mass and the top quark mass. In this scenario, the top quark and the neutralino coming from the decay of a stop have almost equal velocity vectors, and hence the missing transverse momentum in stop pair production events at colliders is suppressed, which makes the stop search challenging, as in the degenerate scenario where the stop mass and the neutralino mass are nearby. In this paper, we propose a novel analysis technique aiming at discovering the stop pair production signal in such an `equal-velocity' scenario. The key is to look for events where the missing transverse momentum vector is proportional to the transverse momentum vector of the top quark pair with specific values for the proportionality coefficient, as this coefficient equals to the ratio of the neutralino mass over the top quark mass in the equal-velocity limit. We examine the possibility that the stop signal can be identified at the 14 TeV LHC by our analysis method.

Study on the azimuthal angle correlation between two jets in the top quark pair production

An azimuthal angle correlation between the two hardest jets is studied in the ttbar production process at the 14 TeV LHC. The event samples are generated by merging the tree level matrix elements for the ttbar plus up to 2 or 3 partons with parton showers. The generated event samples show a strong correlation in the azimuthal angle difference between the two hardest jets, as predicted in the analysis based on the tree level matrix elements for the ttbar+2 partons. The effects of merging the matrix elements for the ttbar+3 partons on the correlation are studied in detail. It is found that they play important roles in improving the prediction of the correlation.

CP violation in $B\to Dτν_τ$ using multi-pion tau decays

Present experimental datas have shown a 3.8$σ$ level discrepancy with the standard model in $\overline{B}\to D^{(*)}τ\barν_τ$. Some new physics models have been considered to explain this discrepancy possibly with new source of the CP violation. In this paper, we construct CP violating observables by using multi-pion decays in $B\to Dτν_τ$, and estimate sensitivity of these observables to generic CP violating operators. We also discuss possibilities of CP violation in leptoquark models and in 2HDM of type-III.

Isospin-Violating Dark Matter at the LHC

We consider a toy model of dark matter (DM) with a gauge singlet Dirac fermion that has contact interactions to quarks that differ for right-handed up and down quarks. This is motivated by the isospin-violating dark matter scenario that was proposed to reconcile reported hints of direct DM detection with bounds from non-observation of the signal in other experiments. We discuss how the effects of isospin violation in these couplings can be observed at the LHC. By studying events with large missing transverse momentum, we show that the ratio of mono-photon and mono-jet events is sensitive to the ratio of the absolute values of the couplings to the up and down quarks, while a dedicated study of di-jet plus missing transverse momentum events can reveal their relative sign. We also consider how our results are modified if instead of a contact interaction, a particle that mediates the interaction is introduced. Our methods have broad applicability to new physics that involves unequal couplings to up and down quarks.

Physics Reach of Atmospheric Neutrino Measurements at PINGU

The sensitivity of a huge underground water/ice Cherenkov detector, such as PINGU in IceCube, to the neutrino mass hierarchy, the atmospheric mixing angle and its octant, is studied in detail. Based on the event rate decomposition in the propagation basis, we illustrate the smearing effects from the neutrino scattering, the visible energy and zenith angle reconstruction procedures, the energy and angular resolutions, and the muon mis-identification rate, as well as the impacts of systematic errors in the detector resolutions, the muon mis-identification rate, and the overall normalization. The sensitivity, especially the mass hierarchy sensitivity, can be enhanced by splitting the muon-like events into two channels, according to the event inelasticity. We also show that including the cascade events can improve and stabilize the sensitivity of the measurements.

T-odd Asymmetry in W+jet Events at the LHC

W bosons produced at high transverse momentum in hadron collisions can have polarization along the direction perpendicular to the production plane, which is odd under na$\ddotı$ve-T-reversal where both the three-momenta and angular momenta are reversed. Perturbative QCD predicts non-zero polarization at the one-loop level, which can be measured as parity-odd components in the angular distribution of charged leptons from the decay of W bosons. We perform a detector-level simulation with the generator MadGraph5_aMC@NLO, and demonstrate that the asymmetry can be observed at the 8 TeV LHC with 20 fb$^{-1}$ of data. If confirmed, it will be the first experimental measurement of the sign of the imaginary part of one-loop QCD amplitudes.

TauDecay: a library to simulate polarized tau decays via FeynRules and MadGraph5

TauDecay is a library of helicity amplitudes to simulate polarized tau decays, constructed in the FeynRules and MadGraph5 framework. Together with the leptonic mode, the decay library includes the main hadronic modes, τ\to ν_τ+π, 2π, and 3π, which are introduced as effective vertices by using FeynRules. The model file allows us to simulate tau decays when the on-shell tau production is kinematically forbidden. We also demonstrate that all possible correlations among the decay products of pair-produced taus through a Z boson and a scalar/pseudoscalar Higgs boson are produced automatically. The program has been tested carefully by making use of the standard tau decay library Tauola.

10 GeV neutralino dark matter and light stau in the MSSM

It has recently been pointed out that a component of the observed gamma ray emission in the low-latitudes of Fermi Bubble has a spectral shape that can be explained by a 10 GeV dark matter (DM) annihilating to tau leptons with a cross-section of 2 x 10^{-27} cm^3/s. Motivated by this possibility, we revisit the annihilation of a 10 GeV neutralino DM in the MSSM via stau exchange. The required stau masses and mixing, consistent with LEP direct search and electroweak precision constraints, are correlated with a possible enhancement of the Higgs decay rate to two photons. We also explore the implications of such a scenario for DM relic density and the muon anomalous magnetic moment, taking into account the recent ATLAS bounds on the chargino and the first two generation slepton masses, as well as the constraints on the Higgsino fraction of a 10 GeV neutralino.

A Novel Approach to Study Atmospheric Neutrino Oscillation

We develop a general theoretical framework to analytically disentangle the contributions of the neutrino mass hierarchy, the atmospheric mixing angle, and the CP phase, in neutrino oscillations. To illustrate the usefulness of this framework, especially that it can serve as a complementary tool to neutrino oscillogram in the study of atmospheric neutrino oscillations, we take PINGU as an example and compute muon- and electron-like event rates with event cuts on neutrino energy and zenith angle. Under the assumption of exact momentum measurements of neutrinos with a perfect e-$μ$ identification and no backgrounds, we find that the PINGU experiment has the potential of resolving the neutrino mass hierarchy and the octant degeneracies within 1-year run, while the measurement of the CP phase is significantly more challenging. Our observation merits a serious study of the detector capability of estimating the neutrino momentum for both muon- and electron-like events.

Azimuthal correlation among jets produced in association with a bottom or top quark pair at the LHC

Angular correlation of jets produced in association with a massive scalar, vector or tensor boson is crucial in the determination of their spin and CP properties. We study jet angular correlations in events with a high mass bottom quark pair or a top quark pair and two jets at the LHC, whose cross-section is dominated by the virtual gluon fusion sub-processes when appropriate kinematic selection cuts (vector-boson fusion cuts) are applied. We evaluate helicity amplitudes for sub-processes initiated by qq, qg and gg collisions in the limit where the intermediate gluons are collinear to the initial partons. We first obtain a general expression for the azimuthal angle correlations among the dijets and t t-bar or b b-bar, in terms of the gg to t t-bar or b b-bar helicity amplitudes in the real gluon approximation of the full matrix elements, and find simple analytic expressions in the two kinematic limits, the production of a heavy quark pair near the threshold, and in the relativistic limit where the invariant mass of the heavy quark pair is much larger than the quark mass. For b b-bar + 2 jets we find strong azimuthal angle correlations which are distinct from those expected for events with a CP-even or odd scalar boson which may decay into a b b-bar pair. For t t-bar + 2 jets we find that the angular correlations are similar to that of a CP-odd scalar+2 jets near the threshold M_(t t-bar) ~ 2 m_t, while in the relativistic limit they resemble the distribution for b b-bar + 2 jets. These correlations in the standard QCD processes will help establish the experimental technique to measure the spin and CP properties of new particles produced via gluon fusion at the LHC.

Determination of mass hierarchy with medium baseline reactor neutrino experiments

We study the sensitivity of future medium baseline reactor antineutrino experiments on the neutrino mass hierarchy. By using the standard chi^2 analysis, we find that the sensitivity depends strongly on the baseline length L and the energy resolution (delta E/E)^2 = (a/sqrt{E/MeV})^2 + b^2, where a and b parameterize the statistical and systematic uncertainties, respectively. The optimal length is found to be L ~ 40-55 km, where a slightly shorter L in the range is preferred for poorer energy resolution. The running time needed to determine the mass hierarchy also depends strongly on the energy resolution; for a 5 kton detector (with 12% weight fraction of free proton) placed at L ~ 50 km away from a 20 GW_{th} reactor, three-sigma determination needs 14 years of running with a = 3% and b = 0.5%, which can be reduced to 5 years if a = 2% and b = 0.5%. On the other hand, the experiment can measure the mixing parameters accurately, achieving delta sin^2(2theta_{12}) ~ 4*10^{-3}, delta (m_2^2-m_1^2) ~ 0.03*10^{-5} eV^2, and delta |m_3^2 -m_1^2| ~ 0.007*10^{-3} eV^2, in 5 years, almost independently of the energy resolution for a < 3% and b < 1%. In order to compare our simple (Delta chi^2)_{min} results with those obtained by simulating many experiments, we develop an efficient method to estimate the uncertainty of (Delta chi^2)_{min}, and the probability for determining the right mass hierarchy by an experiment is presented as a function of the mean (Delta chi^2)_{min}.

Diquark contributions to Top quark charge asymmetry at the Tevatron and LHC

We study contributions of a scalar diquark particle in a color representation of anti-triplet and sextet to the top quark pair production at the Tevatron and the Large hadron collider (LHC). The model can give Forward-Backward (FB) asymmetry at the Tevatron while can avoid the same sign top quark production at the LHC by assuming the top-number conserving diquark couplings. We study compatibility between the large positive FB asymmetry observed at the Tevatron and non-observation of the charge asymmetry at the LHC, by including contributions from the single and pair production of diquarks. We find that the whole parameter space of the models can soon be explored at the LHC by measuring the total t-tbar production cross section and the inclusive charge asymmetry with smaller uncertainties. In addition, we compare the statistical significance of the charge asymmetry measured at the LHC with that of the optimal observable of the subprocess FB asymmetry, and find that they are comparable even when we ignore the uncertainty in the parton distribution functions.

Null radiation zone at the LHC

The null radiation zone theorem states that, when special kinematical conditions are satisfied, all the helicity amplitudes of a parton-level subprocess where a vector current is emitted vanish due to destructive interference among different diagrams. We study the manifestation of the theorem in $pp$ collisions at the $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV LHC. The theorem predicts that the cross section for $p p \rightarrow j j γ$ events is suppressed when the transverse momenta of the two jets are similar and when the rapidity difference between the photon and the cluster of the jets is nearly zero, because the $u u \rightarrow u u γ$ subprocess, which dominates in events with large $j j γ$ invaraint mass, has strong destructive interference in this region. We confirm this prediction by the calculation with MadGraph 5, and show that the suppression on the $p p \rightarrow j j γ$ cross section is observable at the LHC.

Properties of 125 GeV Higgs boson in non-decoupling MSSM scenarios

Tantalizing hints of the Higgs boson of mass around 125 GeV have been reported at the LHC. We explore the MSSM parameter space in which the 125 GeV state is identified as the heavier of the CP even Higgs bosons, and study two scenarios where the two photon production rate can be significantly larger than the standard model (SM). In one scenario, $Γ(H\to γγ)$ is enhanced by a light stau contribution, while the $WW^{\ast}$ ($ZZ^{\ast}$) rate stays around the SM rate. In the other scenario, $Γ(H\to b\bar{b})$ is suppressed and not only the $γγ$ but also the $WW^{\ast}$ ($ZZ^{\ast}$) rates should be enhanced. The $τ\barτ$ rate can be significantly larger or smaller than the SM rate in both scenarios. Other common features of the scenarios include top quark decays into charged Higgs boson, single and pair production of all Higgs bosons in $e^+e^-$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}\lesssim 300$ GeV.

On the W+4 jets background to the top quark asymmetry at the Tevatron

We investigate the possibility that the W+4 jets background is a source of the anomalously large top-antitop (tt) charge asymmetry observed at the Tevatron. We simulate the tt reconstruction of the signal and background events at the matrix-element level and find that the reconstructed tt candidates from the W +4 jets background could give large forward-backward asymmetry. We suggest serious re-evaluation of the W+4 jets background for the tt candidate events by studying the distributions of the reconstructed tt systems in their rapidity difference, the transverse momentum of the top quark, and that of the tt system, which can differ significantly from those of the QCD tt production events especially at high tt invariant mass.

Physics potential of neutrino oscillation experiment with a far detector in Oki Island along the T2K baseline

Oki Island is located between Japan and Korea along the Tokai-To-Kamioka (T2K) baseline. The distance from J-PARC to Oki Island is about 653km, which is twice that of the T2K experiment (L=295km). When the off-axis angle of the neutrino beam from J-PARC is 3.0^\circ (2.0^\circ) at Super-Kamiokande (SK), the off-axis beam (OAB) with 1.4^\circ (0.6^\circ) reaches at Oki Island. We examine physics case of placing a far detector in Oki Island during the T2K experimental period. We estimate the matter density profile along the Tokai-to-Oki baseline by using recent seismological measurements. For a detector of 100kton fiducial volume and 2.5x10^21 POT (protons on target) exposure for both ν_μand \barν_μbeams, we find that the mass hierarchy pattern can be distinguished at 3σlevel if sin^22theta_rct \equiv 4|U_{e3}|^2(1-|U_{e3}|^2) \gsim 0.09, by observing the electron-like CCQE (Charged-Current Quasi Elastic) events. The CP phase in the Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata lepton flavor mixing matrix, δ_mns, can be constrained with \pm 20^\circ. As a reference, we repeat the same analysis by placing the same detector in Korea at L=1000km and OAB=0.5^\circ (T2KK) and also by placing it at the SK site (T2K_122). The Tokai-to-Kamioka-OKI (T2KO) sensitivity to the mass hierarchy is about 1/3 (in Δχ^2_min) of T2KK, while the sensitivity to the phase δ_mns is similar between T2KO and T2KK. The T2K_122 option has almost no sensitivity to the mass hierarchy, and cannot measure the CP phase except when δ_mns \sim -90^\circ (90^\circ) for the normal (inverted) hierarchy.

Generating QCD amplitudes in the color-flow basis with MadGraph

We propose to make use of the off-shell recursive relations with the color-flow decomposition in the calculation of QCD amplitudes on MadGraph. We introduce colored quarks and their interactions with nine gluons in the color-flow basis plus an Abelian gluon on MadGraph, such that it generates helicity amplitudes in the color-flow basis with off-shell recursive formulae for multi-gluon sub-amplitudes. We demonstrate calculations of up to 5-jet processes such as $gg\rightarrow 5g$, $u\bar{u}\rightarrow 5g$ and $uu\rightarrow uuggg$. Although our demonstration is limited, it paves the way to evaluate amplitudes with more quark lines and gluons with Madgraph.

Simulating graviton production at hadron colliders

Spin-2 particles and in particular gravitons are predicted in many new physics scenarios at the TeV scale. Depending on the details of models such new states might show up as a continuum, massless particles, or TeV scale resonances. Correspondingly, very different discovery signatures should be exploited, from the search of excesses in events with multi jets and large missing transverse energy, to resonances in weak boson or jet pair productions. We present a very general and flexible implementation in MadGraph/MadEvent of spin-2 particles interacting with the standard model particles via the energy momentum tensor, which encompasses all of the most popular TeV scale models featuring gravitons. By merging matrix elements with parton shower, we can generate inclusive samples of graviton+jets at the hadron colliders in several scenarios (ADD, zero-mass graviton and RS). We compare and validate our results against the corresponding next-to-leading order QCD calculations.

The earth matter effects in neutrino oscillation experiments from Tokai to Kamioka and Korea

We study the earth matter effects in the Tokai-to-Kamioka-and-Korea experiment (T2KK), which is a proposed extension of the T2K (Tokai-to-Kamioka) neutrino oscillation experiment between J-PARC at Tokai and Super-Kamiokande (SK) in Kamioka, where an additional detector is placed in Korea along the same neutrino beam line.By using recent geophysical measurements, we examine the earth matter effects on the oscillation probabilities at Kamioka and Korea. The average matter density along the Tokai-to-Kamioka baseline is found to be 2.6 g/cm^3, and that for the Tokai-to-Korea baseline is 2.85, 2.98, and 3.05 g/cm^3 for the baseline length of L = 1000, 1100, and 1200 km, respectively. The uncertainty of the average density is about 6%, which is determined by the uncertainty in the correlation between the accurately measured sound velocity and the matter density. The effect of the matter density distribution along the baseline is studied by using the step function approximation and the Fourier analysis. We find that the nu_mu -> nu_e oscillation probability is dictated mainly by the average matter density, with small but non-negligible contribution from the real part of the first Fourier mode. We also find that the sensitivity of the T2KK experiment on the neutrino mass hierarchy does not improve significantly by reducing the matter density error from 6% to 3%, since the measurement is limited by statistics for the minimum scenario of T2KK with SK at Kamioka anda 100 kt detector in Korea considered in this report. The sensitivity of the T2KK experiment on the neutrino mass hierarchy improves significantly by splitting the total beam time into neutrino and anti-neutrino runs, because the matter effect term contributes to the oscillation amplitudes with the opposite sign.

The MSSM confronts the precision electroweak data and the muon g-2

We update the electroweak study of the predictions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) including the recent results on the muon anomalous magnetic moment, the weak boson masses, and the final precision data on the Z boson parameters from LEP and SLC. We find that the region of the parameter space where the slepton masses are a few hundred GeV is favored from the muon g-2 for \tanβ\ltsim 10, whereas for \tanβ\simeq 50 heavier slepton mass up to \sim 1000 GeV can account for the reported 3.2 σdifference between its experimental value and the Standard Model (SM) prediction. As for the electroweak measurements, the SM gives a good description, and the sfermions lighter than 200 GeV tend to make the fit worse. We find, however, that sleptons as light as 100 to 200 GeV are favored also from the electroweak data, if we leave out the jet asymmetry data that do not agree with the leptonic asymmetry data. We extend the survey of the preferred MSSM parameters by including the constraints from the b \to s γtransition, and find favorable scenarios in the minimal supergravity, gauge-, and mirage-mediation models of supersymmetry breaking.

Angular distribution of thrust axis with power-suppressed contribution in e+e- annihilation

Structure function of e+e- to hadrons cross section proportional to the longitudinal part of the hadron tensor is power suppressed with respect to an event shape variable in the two-jet region. In the SCET framework, we study the event shape distribution for this structure function to NLL level of accuracy. As, a result we obtain the angular distribution of hadron jets as a function of the thrust, in the two jet region. We further examine effects of non-perturbative hadronization corrections by adopting a shape function that reproduce the observed event shape distributions. Impacts of our findings on the electroweak measurements via the jet angular forward-backward asymmetry are discussed.

Antiproton Flux in Cosmic Ray Propagation Models with Anisotropic Diffusion

Recently a cosmic ray propagation model has been introduced, where anisotropic diffusion is used as a mechanism to allow for $\mathcal{O}(100)$ km/s galactic winds. This model predicts a reduced antiproton background flux, suggesting an excess is being observed. We implement this model in GALPROP v50.1 and perform a $χ^2$ analysis for B/C, $^{10}$Be/$^{9}$Be, and the recent PAMELA $\bar{p}/p$ datasets. By introducing a power-index parameter $α$ that dictates the dependence of the diffusion coefficient $D_{xx}$ on height $|z|$ away from the galactic plane, we confirm that isotropic diffusion models with $α=0$ cannot accommodate high velocity convective winds suggested by ROSAT, while models with $α=1$ ($D_{xx}\propto |z|$) can give a very good fit. A fit to B/C and $^{10}$Be/$^{9}$Be data predicts a lower $\bar{p}/p$ flux ratio than the PAMELA measurement at energies between approximately 2 GeV to 20 GeV. A combined fit including in addition the $\bar{p}/p$ data is marginal, suggesting only a partial contribution to the measured antiproton flux.

Jet angular correlation in vector-boson fusion processes at hadron colliders

Higgs boson and massive-graviton productions in association with two jets via vector-boson fusion (VBF) processes and their decays into a vector-boson pair at hadron colliders are studied. They include scalar and tensor boson production processes via weak-boson fusion in quark-quark collisions, gluon fusion in quark-quark, quark-gluon and gluon-gluon collisions, as well as their decays into a pair of weak bosons or virtual gluons which subsequently decay into $\ell\bar\ell$, $q\bar q$ or $gg$. We give the helicity amplitudes explicitly for all the VBF subprocesses, and show that the VBF amplitudes dominate the exact matrix elements not only for the weak-boson fusion processes but also for all the gluon fusion processes when appropriate selection cuts are applied, such as a large rapidity separation between two jets and a slicing cut for the transverse momenta of the jets. We also show that our off-shell vector-boson current amplitudes reduce to the standard quark and gluon splitting amplitudes with appropriate gluon-polarization phases in the collinear limit. Nontrivial azimuthal angle correlations of the jets in the production and in the decay of massive spin-0 and -2 bosons are manifestly expressed as the quantum interference among different helicity states of the intermediate vector-bosons. Those correlations reflect the spin and the CP nature of the Higgs bosons and the massive gravitons.

Testing supersymmetry at the LHC through gluon-fusion production of a slepton pair

Renormalizable quartic couplings among new particles are typical of supersymmetric models. Their detection could provide a test for supersymmetry, discriminating it from other extensions of the Standard Model. Quartic couplings among squarks and sleptons, together with the SU(3) gauge couplings for squarks, allow a new realization of the gluon-fusion mechanism for pair-production of sleptons at the one-loop level. The corresponding production cross section, however, is at most of ${\cal O}(1) $fb for slepton and squark masses of ${\cal O}(100) $GeV. We then extend our investigation to the gluon-fusion production of sleptons through the exchange of Higgs bosons. The cross section is even smaller, of ${\cal O}(0.1) $fb, if the exchanged Higgs boson is considerably below the slepton-pair threshold, but it is enhanced when it is resonant. It can reach ${\cal O}(10) $fb for the production of sleptons of same-chirality, exceeding these values for $\widetildeτ$'s of opposite-chirality, even when chirality-mixing terms in the squark sector are vanishing. The cross section can be further enhanced if these mixing terms are nonnegligible, providing a potentially interesting probe of the Higgs sector, in particular of parameters such as $A$, $μ$, and $\tanβ$.

T-odd asymmetries in radiative top-quark decays

We study the angular distribution of the charged lepton in the top-quark decay into a bottom quark and a W boson which subsequently decays into \ellν_{\ell}, when a hard gluon is radiated off. The absorptive part of the t \to bWg decay amplitudes, which gives rise to T-odd asymmetries in the distribution, is calculated at the one-loop level in perturbative QCD. Solving the neutrino parameter degeneracy by measuring the T2K off-axis beam in Korea

The T2K neutrino oscillation experiment will start in 2009. In this experiment the center of the neutrino beam from J-PARC at Tokai village will go through underground beneath Super-Kamiokande, reach the sea level east of Korean shore, and an off-axis beam at $0.5^{\circ}$ to $1.0^{\circ}$ can be observed in Korea. We study physics impacts of putting a 100 kt-level Water \cerenkov detector in Korea during the T2K experimental period. For a combination of the $3^{\circ}$ off-axis beam at SK with baseline length L = 295 km and the $0.5^{\circ}$ off-axis beam in the east coast of Korea at L = 1000 km, we find that the neutrino mass hierarchy (the sign of $m^2_{3} - m^2_1$) can be resolved and the CP phase of the MNS unitary matrix can be constrained uniquely at 3-$σ$ level when \sin^2 2θ_{\rm rct} $ \ge 0.06 $.

B^0_{d,s} - \bar{B}^0_{d,s} mass-differences from QCD spectral sum rules

We present the first QCD spectral sum rules analysis of the SU(3) breaking parameter ξand an improved estimate of the renormalization group invariant (RGI) bag constant \hat{B}_{B_q} both entering into the B^0_{d,s} - \bar{B}^0_{d,s} mass-differences. The averages of the results from the Laplace and moment sum rules to order α_s are f_B\sqrt{\hat B_B} \simeq (247 \pm 59) MeV and ξ\equiv f_{B_s} \sqrt{\hat B_{B_s}} / f_{B} \sqrt{\hat B_{B}} \simeq (1.18\pm 0.03), in units where f_π=130.7 MeV. Combined with the experimental data on the mass-differences ΔM_{d,s}, one obtains the constraint on the CKM weak mixing angle |V_{ts}/V_{td}|^2 > 20.0 (1.1). Alternatively, using the weak mixing angle from the analysis of the unitarity triangle and the data on ΔM_d, one predicts ΔM_s=18.6 (2.2) ps^{-1} in agreement with the present experimental lower bound and within the reach of Tevatron 2.

Higgs Boson Decays in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with Radiative Higgs Sector CP Violation

We re-evaluate the decays of the Higgs bosons in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) where the tree-level CP invariance of the Higgs potential is explicitly broken by the loop effects of the third-generation squarks with CP-violating soft-breaking Yukawa interactions. This study is based on the mass matrix of the neutral Higgs bosons that is valid for arbitrary values of all the relevant MSSM parameters. It extends the previous work considerably by including neutral Higgs-boson decays into virtual gauge bosons and those into top-squark pairs, by implementing squark-loop contributions to the two-gluon decay channel, and by incorporating the decays of the charged Higgs boson. The constraints from the electron electric dipole moment on the CP phases are also discussed. We find that the branching fractions of both the neutral and charged Higgs-boson decays and their total decay widths depend strongly on the CP phases of the top (and bottom) squark sectors through the loop-induced neutral Higgs boson mixing as well as the direct couplings of the neutral Higgs bosons to top squark pairs.

Looking Beyond the Standard Model through Precision Electroweak Physics

The most important hint of physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) from the 1995 precision electroweak data is that the most precisely measured quantities, the total, leptonic and hadronic decay widths of the $Z$ and the effective weak mixing angle, $\sin^2θ_W$, measured at LEP and SLC, and the quark-lepton universality of the weak charged currents measured at low energies, all agree with the predictions of the SM at a few $\times 10^{-3}$ level. By taking into account the above constraints I examine implications of three possible disagreements between experiments and the SM predictions. It is difficult to interpret the 11\% (2.5-$σ$) deficit of the $Z$-partial-width ratio $R_c=Γ_c/Γ_h$, since it either implies an unacceptably large $α_s$ or a subtle cancellation among hadronic $Z$ decay widths in order to keep all the other successful predictions of the SM. The 2\% (3-$σ$) excess of the ratio $R_b=Γ_b/Γ_h$ may indicate the presence of a new rather strong interaction, such as the top-quark Yukawa coupling in the supersymmetric (SUSY) SM or a new interaction responsible for the large top-quark mass in the Technicolor scenario of dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking. Another interpretation may be additional tree-level gauge interactions that couple only to the third generation of fermions. A common consequence of these attempts is a rather small $α_s$, $α_s(\mz )_{\msbar}=0.104\pm 0.08$. The 0.17\% (1-$σ$) deficit ...
