Extreme Dilaton Black Holes in 2 +1 Dimensions: Quasinormal modes

We study neutral massless scalar field perturbations around an extreme dilaton black hole in 2 +1 dimensions: the wave equations of the massless scalar field is shown to be exactly solvable in terms of Whittaker functions. Thus, the quasinormal modes are computed exactly and shown to be purely imaginary: we show the existence of stable and unstable modes. Interestingly, the quasinormal modes do not depend on the black holes parameters and the fundamental mode is always unstable and depends only on the parameters of the test field. Also, we determine the quasinormal frequencies via the improved asymptotic iteration method which shows a good agreement with the analytical results.

Quasinormal modes for massive charged scalar fields in Reissner-Nordström dS black holes: anomalous decay rate

The anomalous decay rate of the quasinormal modes occurs when the longest-lived modes are the ones with higher angular number. Such behaviour has been recently studied in different static spacetimes, for uncharged scalar and fermionic perturbations, being observed in both cases. In this work we consider the propagation of charged massive scalar fields in the background of Reissner-Nordström-de Sitter black holes and we mainly study the effect of the scalar field charge in the spectrum of quasinormal frequencies, as well as, its effect on the anomalous decay rate. Mainly, we show that the anomalous behaviour is present for massive charged scalar fields as well, and a critical value of scalar field mass exists, beyond which the behaviour is inverted. However, there is also a critical value of the parameter $qQ$ of the charge of the scalar field and of the charge of the black hole, which increases when the cosmological constant increases, and beyond the critical value the anomalous behaviour of the decay rate could be avoided for the fundamental mode.

Quasinormal modes of massive scalar fields in four-dimensional wormholes: anomalous decay rate

In this work we consider a Generalized Bronnikov-Ellis wormhole and the tideless Morris-Thorne wormhole and we study the propagation of massive scalar fields. We calculate the quasinormal frequencies using the WKB method and the pseudospectal Chebyshev method and we show the presence of an anomalous decay rate for the quasinormal modes in the Generalized Bronnikov-Ellis wormhole. However, such anomalous behaviour is avoided for the fundamental mode in the Morris-Thorne wormhole background.

Anomalous decay rate of quasinormal modes in Reissner-Nordström black holes

The anomalous decay rate of the quasinormal modes occurs when the longest-lived modes are the ones with higher angular number. Such behaviour has been recently studied in different static spacetimes, for scalar and fermionic perturbations, being observed in both cases. In this work, we extend the existent studies to the charged spacetimes, namely, the Reissner-Nordström, the Reissner-Nordström-de Sitter and the Reissner-Nordström-Anti-de Sitter black holes. We show that the anomalous decay rate behaviour of the scalar field perturbations is present for every charged geometry in the photon sphere modes, with the existence of a critical scalar field mass whenever $Λ\geq 0$. In general, this critical value of mass increases with the raise of the black hole charge, thus rendering a minimum in the Schwarzschild limit. We also study the dominant mode/family for the massless and massive scalar field in these geometries showing a non-trivial dominance of the spectra that depends on the black hole mass and charge.

Massive Dirac quasinormal modes in Schwarzschild-dS black holes: anomalous decay rate and fine structure

Recently, the anomalous decay rate of quasinormal modes has been studied for some geometries under scalar field perturbations, which occurs when the longest-lived modes are the ones with higher angular number, as well as, the existence of a critical scalar field mass, i.e the value of scalar field mass such that the decay rate does not depend appreciably on the angular number, and beyond which the behaviour of the decay rate is inverted. Here, we consider the propagation of fermionic fields in the background of Schwarzschild de Sitter black holes, and we show that the anomalous decay rate behaviour and the fine structure, related to the coupling between the chirality and the mass of the field, can be observed in the fermionic spectrum.

Anomalous decay rate of quasinormal modes in Schwarzschild-dS and Schwarzschild-AdS black holes

Recently an anomalous decay rate of the quasinormal modes of a massive scalar field in Schwarzschild black holes backgrounds was reported in which the longest-lived modes are the ones with higher angular number, for a scalar field mass smaller than a critical value, while that beyond this value the behaviour is inverted. In this work, we extend the study to other asymptotic geometries, such as, Schwarzschild-de Sitter and Schwarzschild-AdS black holes. Mainly, we found that such behaviour and the critical mass are present in the Schwarzschild-de Sitter background. Also, we found that the value of the critical mass increases when the cosmological constant increases and also when the overtone number is increasing. On the other hand, despite the critical mass is not present in Schwarzschild-AdS black holes backgrounds, the decay rate of the quasinormal modes always exhibits an anomalous behaviour.

Motion and trajectories of photons in a three-dimensional rotating Hořava AdS black hole

We study the motion of photons in the background of a three-dimensional rotating Hořava AdS black hole that corresponds to a Lorentz-violating version of the BTZ black hole and we analyze the effect of the breaking of Lorentz invariance on the null geodesics structure, by solving analytically the equations of motion. Mainly we find that, through a fine tuning of the parameters of the theory, new kinds of orbits are allowed, such as unstable circular orbits and trajectories of first kind. Also, we show that an external observer will see that photons arrive at spatial infinity in a finite coordinate time.

Perturbative and nonperturbative quasinormal modes of 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet black holes

We study the propagation of probe scalar fields in the background of 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet black holes with anti-de Sitter (AdS) asymptotics and calculate the quasinormal modes. Mainly, we show that the quasinormal spectrum consists of two different branches, a branch perturbative in the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant $α$ and another branch nonperturbative in $α$. The perturbative branch consists of complex quasinormal frequencies that approximate to the quasinormal frequencies of the Schwarzschild AdS black hole in the limit of a null coupling constant. On the other hand, the nonperturbative branch consists of purely imaginary frequencies and is characterized by the growth of the imaginary part when $α$ decreases, diverging in the limit of null coupling constant, therefore they do not exist for the Schwarzschild AdS black hole. Also, we find that the imaginary part of the quasinormal frequencies is always negative for both branches; therefore, the propagation of scalar fields is stable in this background.

Quasinormal modes of three-dimensional rotating Hořava AdS black hole and the approach to thermal equilibrium

We compute the quasinormal modes (QNMs) of a massive scalar field in the background of a rotating three-dimensional Hořava AdS black hole, and we analyze the effect of the breaking of the Lorentz invariance on the QNMs. Imposing on the horizon that there are only ingoing waves and at infinity the Dirichlet boundary conditions and the Neumann boundary condition, we calculate the oscillatory and the decay modes of the QNMs. We find that the propagation of the scalar field is stable in this background and employing the holographic principle we find the different times of the perturbed system to reach thermal equilibrium for the various branches of solutions.

Four-dimensional black holes with scalar hair in nonlinear electrodynamics

We consider a gravitating system consisting of a scalar field minimally coupled to gravity with a self-interacting potential and a U(1) nonlinear electromagnetic field. Solving analytically and numerically the coupled system for both power-law and Born-Infeld type electrodynamics, we find charged hairy black hole solutions. Then, we study the thermodynamics of these solutions and we find that at a low temperature the topological charged black hole with scalar hair is thermodynamically preferred, whereas the topological charged black hole without scalar hair is thermodynamically preferred at a high temperature for power-law electrodynamics. Interestingly enough, these phase transitions occur at a fixed critical temperature and do not depend on the exponent $p$ of the nonlinearity electrodynamics.

Some cosmological models coming from gravitational theories having torsional degrees of freedom

In this work we consider gravitational theories in which the effect of coupling characteristic classes, appropriately introduced as operators in the Einstein-Hilbert action, has been taken into account. As it is well known, this approach strays from the framework of general relativity since it results in theories in which torsion can be present. We consider here all the characteristic classes that are consistent with a four-dimensional space-time manifold. Then, we present explicit expressions for the contortion $1$-form and torsion $2$-form that can be obtained under general conditions in various cases of interest. Additionally, we use the same framework to study cosmological scenarios that are obtained mainly by selecting the flat FLRW metric and an ideal fluid.

Minimal Log Gravity

Minimal Massive Gravity (MMG) is an extension of three-dimensional Topologically Massive Gravity that, when formulated about Anti-de Sitter space, accomplishes to solve the tension between bulk and boundary unitarity that other models in three dimensions suffer from. We study this theory at the chiral point, i.e. at the point of the parameter space where one of the central charges of the dual conformal field theory vanishes. We investigate the non-linear regime of the theory, meaning that we study exact solutions to the MMG field equations that are not Einstein manifolds. We exhibit a large class of solutions of this type, which behave asymptotically in different manners. In particular, we find analytic solutions that represent two-parameter deformations of extremal Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black holes. These geometries behave asymptotically as solutions of the so-called Log Gravity, and, despite the weakened falling-off close to the boundary, they have finite mass and finite angular momentum, which we compute. We also find time-dependent deformations of BTZ that obey Brown-Henneaux asymptotic boundary conditions. The existence of such solutions show that Birkhoff theorem does not hold in MMG at the chiral point. Other peculiar features of the theory at the chiral point, such as the degeneracy it exhibits in the decoupling limit of the Cotton tensor, are discussed.

Scalar Perturbations of Nonlinear Charged Lifshitz Black Branes with Hyperscaling Violation

We study scalar perturbations of nonlinear charged Lifshitz black branes with hyperscaling violating factor, and we find numerically the quasinormal modes for scalar fields. Then, we study the stability of these black branes under massive and massless scalar field perturbations. Also, we consider different values of the dynamical exponent, the nonlinear exponent and the hyperscaling violating exponent.

Three-Dimensional Hairy Black Holes in Teleparallel Gravity

We consider three-dimensional gravity based on torsion. Specifically, we consider an extension of the so-called Teleparallel Equivalent of General Relativity in the presence of a scalar field with a self-interacting potential, where the scalar field is non-minimally coupled with the torsion scalar. Then, we find asymptotically AdS hairy black hole solutions, which are characterized by a scalar field with a power-law behavior, being regular outside the event horizon and null at spatial infinity and by a self-interacting potential, which tends to an effective cosmological constant at spatial infinity.

Fermionic greybody factors of two and five-dimensional dilatonic black holes

We study fermionic perturbations in the background of a two and five-dimensional dilatonic black holes. Then, we compute the reflection and transmission coefficients and the absorption cross section for fermionic fields, and we show numerically that the absorption cross section vanishes in the low and high frequency limit. Also we find that beyond a certain value of the horizon radius $r_0$ the absorption cross section for five-dimensional dilatonic black hole is constant. Besides, we have find that the absorption cross section decreases for higher angular momentum, and it decreases when the mass of the fermionic field increases.

Motion of particles on a $z=2$ Lifshitz black hole in 3+1 dimensions

We study the geodesic structure of a $z=2$ Lifshitz black hole in 3+1 spacetime dimensions that is an exact solution to the Einstein-scalar-Maxwell theory. We investigate the motion of massless and massive particles in this background using the standard Lagrangian procedure. Analytical expressions are obtained for radial and angular motions of the test particles, where the polar trajectories are given in terms of the $\wp$ - Weierstrass elliptic function. It is shown that confined orbits are not allowed on this spacetime, this result agrees with the obtained recently in the literature for other Lifshitz black holes.

About the coordinate time for photons in Lifshitz Space-times

In this paper we studied the behavior of radial photons from the point of view of the coordinate time in (asymptotically) Lifshitz space-times, and we found a generalization to the result reported in previous works by Cruz et. al. [Eur. Phys. J. C {\bf 73}, 7 (2013)], Olivares et. al. [Astrophys. Space Sci. {\bf 347}, 83-89 (2013)], and Olivares et. al. [arXiv: 1306.5285]. We demonstrate that all asymptotically Lifshitz space-times characterized by a lapse funcion $f(r)$ which tends to one when $r\rightarrow \infty$, present the same behavior, in the sense that an external observer will see that photons arrive at spatial infinity in a finite coordinate time. Also, we show that radial photons in the proper system cannot determine the presence of the black hole in the region $r_+<r<\infty$, because the proper time results to be independent of the lapse function $f(r)$.

Particles motion on topological Lifshitz black holes in 3+1 dimensions

In the present paper we study the causal structure of a topological black hole presented by Mann R. B. JHEP 06, 075 (2009) by mean the standard Lagrangian procedure, which allow us analyze qualitatively the behavior of test particles using the effective potential. Then, the geodesic motion of massive and massless particles is obtained analytically. We find that confined orbits are forbidden on this spacetime, however radial photons can escape to infinity in an infinite proper time but in a finite coordinate time, this correspond to an interesting and novel result.

Exact solutions in 3D gravity with torsion

We study the three-dimensional gravity with torsion given by the Mielke-Baekler (MB) model coupled to gravitational Chern-Simons term, and that possess electric charge described by Maxwell-Chern-Simons electrodynamics. We find and discuss this theory's charged black holes solutions and uncharged solutions. We find that for vanishing torsion our solutions by means of a coordinate transformation can be written as three-dimensional Chern-Simons black holes. We also discuss a special case of this theory, Topologically Massive Gravity (TMG) at chiral point, and we show that the logarithmic solution of TMG is also a solution of the MB model at a fixed point in the space of parameters. Furthermore, we show that our solutions generalize Godel type solutions in a particular case. Also, we recover BTZ black hole in Riemann-Cartan spacetime for vanishing charge.

Fermionic and scalar fields as sources of interacting dark matter-dark energy

From a variational action with non-minimal coupling with a scalar field and classical scalar and fermionic interaction, cosmological field equations can be obtained. Imposing a FLRW metric the equations lead directly to a cosmological model consisting of two interacting fluids, where the scalar field fluid is interpreted as dark energy and the fermionic field fluid is interpreted as dark matter. Several cases were studied analytically and numerically. An important feature of the non-minimal coupling is that it allows crossing the barrier from a quintessence to phantom behavior. The insensitivity of the solutions to one of the parameters of the model permits it to find an almost analytical solution for the cosmological constant type of universe.
