$(2+1)$-Dimensional Black Holes in $f(R,ϕ)$ Gravity

We consider a $f(R)$ gravity theory in $(2+1)$-dimensions with a self-interacting scalar field non-minimally coupled to gravity. Without specifying the form of the $f(R)$ function, solving the field equations we find that the Ricci scalar receives a non-linear correction term which breaks the conformal invariance and leads to a massless black hole solution. When the non-linear term decouples, we get a well known hairy black hole solution with the scalar field conformally coupled to gravity. We also find that the entropy of our black hole may be higher than the corresponding conformal black hole which indicates that our solution may be thermodynamically preferred.

Quasinormal modes for massive charged scalar fields in Reissner-Nordström dS black holes: anomalous decay rate

The anomalous decay rate of the quasinormal modes occurs when the longest-lived modes are the ones with higher angular number. Such behaviour has been recently studied in different static spacetimes, for uncharged scalar and fermionic perturbations, being observed in both cases. In this work we consider the propagation of charged massive scalar fields in the background of Reissner-Nordström-de Sitter black holes and we mainly study the effect of the scalar field charge in the spectrum of quasinormal frequencies, as well as, its effect on the anomalous decay rate. Mainly, we show that the anomalous behaviour is present for massive charged scalar fields as well, and a critical value of scalar field mass exists, beyond which the behaviour is inverted. However, there is also a critical value of the parameter $qQ$ of the charge of the scalar field and of the charge of the black hole, which increases when the cosmological constant increases, and beyond the critical value the anomalous behaviour of the decay rate could be avoided for the fundamental mode.

Quasinormal modes of massive scalar fields in four-dimensional wormholes: anomalous decay rate

In this work we consider a Generalized Bronnikov-Ellis wormhole and the tideless Morris-Thorne wormhole and we study the propagation of massive scalar fields. We calculate the quasinormal frequencies using the WKB method and the pseudospectal Chebyshev method and we show the presence of an anomalous decay rate for the quasinormal modes in the Generalized Bronnikov-Ellis wormhole. However, such anomalous behaviour is avoided for the fundamental mode in the Morris-Thorne wormhole background.

Scalarization of Chern-Simons Kerr Black Hole Solutions and Wormholes

Chern-Simons gravity rotating Kerr-type black hole solutions are revisited from the point of view of their scalarization, namely examining the back reaction of pseudoscalar axion fields on the rotating geometry. To lowest order in an angular momentum expansion, and a long range approximation for both the axion field configuration and its back reaction onto the metric, such solutions had been discussed for the first time in the context of string theory. In this work, we extend the analysis to give analytic expressions for slowly rotating black holes outside the horizon, which formally include an all order expansion in inverse powers of the radial distance from the centre of the black hole, which allows to approach arbitrarily close the horizon. We also discuss in some detail the way Chern-Simons gravity violates the energy conditions, which leads to secondary axionic hair of the rotating black hole solutions. This discussion is extended to studies of wormhole solutions, which we construct in this article via the thin-shell procedure and we demonstrate that the presence of the axion field enforces the two black hole solutions to be counter-rotating and for slow rotation, there is no backreaction of the Cotton tensor on the thin-shell of the wormhole.

Stability of black holes with non-minimally coupled scalar hair to the Einstein tensor

General relativity admits a plethora of exact compact object solutions. The augmentation of Einstein's action with non-minimal coupling terms leads to modified theories with rich structure, which, in turn, provide non-trivial solutions with intriguing phenomenology. Thus, assessing their viability under generic fluctuations is of utmost importance for gravity theories. We consider static and spherically-symmetric solutions of a Horndeski subclass which includes a massless scalar field non-minimally coupled to the Einstein tensor. Such theory possesses second-order field equations and admits an exact black hole solution with scalar hair. Here, we study the stability of such solution under axial gravitational perturbations and find that it is linearly stable. The qualitative features of the ringdown waveform depend solely on the ratio of the two available parameters of spacetime, namely the black hole mass $m$ and the non-minimal coupling strength $\ell_η$. Finally, we demonstrate the gravitational-wave ringdown transitions between three distinct patterns as the ratio $m/\ell_η$ increases; a state which is dominated by photon-sphere excitations and maintains a typical quasinormal ringdown, an intermediate long-lived state which exhibits gravitational-wave echoes and, finally, a state where the ringdown and echoes are depleted rapidly to turn to an exponential tail.

Topological Black Holes with curvature induced scalarization in the extended scalar-tensor theories

We study the perturbative behaviour of topological black holes in the presence of a cosmological constant and a scalar field coupled to the Gauss-Bonnet term. We calculate both analytically and numerically the quasi-normal modes of scalar perturbations in the extended scalar-tensor-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. In the case of small black holes we find a phase transition of the topological black hole to a hairy configuration.

$f({\sf R})$ Gravity Wormholes sourced by a Phantom Scalar Field

We derive an exact wormhole spacetime supported by a phantom scalar field in the context of $f({\sf R})$ gravity. Without specifying the form of the $f({\sf R})$ function, the scalar field self-interacts with a mass term potential that is derived from the scalar equation and the resulting $f({\sf R})$ model is purely supported by the scalar field and it is free of ghosts and avoids the tachyonic instability.

Anomalous decay rate of quasinormal modes in Reissner-Nordström black holes

The anomalous decay rate of the quasinormal modes occurs when the longest-lived modes are the ones with higher angular number. Such behaviour has been recently studied in different static spacetimes, for scalar and fermionic perturbations, being observed in both cases. In this work, we extend the existent studies to the charged spacetimes, namely, the Reissner-Nordström, the Reissner-Nordström-de Sitter and the Reissner-Nordström-Anti-de Sitter black holes. We show that the anomalous decay rate behaviour of the scalar field perturbations is present for every charged geometry in the photon sphere modes, with the existence of a critical scalar field mass whenever $Λ\geq 0$. In general, this critical value of mass increases with the raise of the black hole charge, thus rendering a minimum in the Schwarzschild limit. We also study the dominant mode/family for the massless and massive scalar field in these geometries showing a non-trivial dominance of the spectra that depends on the black hole mass and charge.

Disformal Transition of a Black Hole to a Wormhole in Scalar-Tensor Horndeski Theory

We consider disformal transformations in a subclass of Horndeski theory in which a scalar field is kinetically coupled to the Einstein tensor. We apply a disformal transformation on a seed hairy black hole solution of this theory and we show that there is a transition of a black hole to a wormhole. We also show that the null energy condition is violated in the wormhole configuration and we study the stability of the wormhole solution by calculating the time evolution of scalar perturbations in this geometry.

Echoes of Compact Objects in Scalar-Tensor Theories of Gravity

Scalar-tensor theory predicts solutions to the gravitational field equations which describe compact objects in the presence of a non-minimally coupled scalar field to the Einstein tensor. These objects are black holes with scalar hair and wormholes supporting scalar phantom matter. The evolution of test fields in fixed asymptotically-flat backgrounds of exotic compact objects leads to the formation of echoes in the ringdown signal, which designate the existence of trapping regions close to the event horizon. Here, we consider minimally-coupled test scalar fields propagating on compact object solutions of the Horndeski action, which possess an effective cosmological constant, leading to anti-de Sitter asymptotics, and show that echoes can form in the ringdown waveform due to the entrapment of test fields between the photon sphere and the effective asymptotic boundary. Although the presence of an event horizon leads to the usual echoes with decaying amplitude, signifying modal stability of the scalarized black hole considered, we find that test scalar fields propagating on a scalarized wormhole solution give rise to echoes of constant and equal amplitude to that of the initial ringdown, indicating the existence of normal modes. Finally, we find that, near extremality, the test field exhibits a concatenation of echoes; the primary ones are associated with the trapping region between the photon sphere and the effective anti-de Sitter boundary while the secondary ones are linked to the existence of a potential well at the throat of the wormhole.

Anomalous decay rate of quasinormal modes in Schwarzschild-dS and Schwarzschild-AdS black holes

Recently an anomalous decay rate of the quasinormal modes of a massive scalar field in Schwarzschild black holes backgrounds was reported in which the longest-lived modes are the ones with higher angular number, for a scalar field mass smaller than a critical value, while that beyond this value the behaviour is inverted. In this work, we extend the study to other asymptotic geometries, such as, Schwarzschild-de Sitter and Schwarzschild-AdS black holes. Mainly, we found that such behaviour and the critical mass are present in the Schwarzschild-de Sitter background. Also, we found that the value of the critical mass increases when the cosmological constant increases and also when the overtone number is increasing. On the other hand, despite the critical mass is not present in Schwarzschild-AdS black holes backgrounds, the decay rate of the quasinormal modes always exhibits an anomalous behaviour.

Generalized Non-Minimal Derivative Coupling: Application to Inflation and Primordial Black Hole Production

We introduce inflationary models where the inflaton features a field dependent non-minimal derivative coupling to the Einstein tensor, that we name GNMDC. This Horndeski term gives new and distinguishable inflationary predictions in a framework that ameliorates possible problems related with gradient instabilities during the reheating stage. We examine the inflationary phenomenology using power law monomial and exponential potentials. We further elaborate on the implications of the inflaton-modulated GNMDC and construct GNMDC terms that can amplify the power spectrum of primordial perturbations at small scales, triggering PBH production. An attractive feature of the GNMDC is that inflation, as well as PBH production, can be implemented utilizing the Higgs potential.

Motion and trajectories of photons in a three-dimensional rotating Hořava AdS black hole

We study the motion of photons in the background of a three-dimensional rotating Hořava AdS black hole that corresponds to a Lorentz-violating version of the BTZ black hole and we analyze the effect of the breaking of Lorentz invariance on the null geodesics structure, by solving analytically the equations of motion. Mainly we find that, through a fine tuning of the parameters of the theory, new kinds of orbits are allowed, such as unstable circular orbits and trajectories of first kind. Also, we show that an external observer will see that photons arrive at spatial infinity in a finite coordinate time.

Probing Bosonic Stars with Atomic Clocks

Dark Matter could potentially manifest itself in the form of asymmetric dark stars. In this paper we entertain the possibility of probing such asymmetric bosonic dark matter stars by the use of atomic clocks. If the dark sector connects to the standard model sector via a Higgs or photon portal, the interior of boson stars that are in a Bose-Einstein condensate state can change the values of physical constants that control the timing of atomic clock devices. Dilute asymmetric dark matter boson stars passing through the Earth can induce frequency shifts that can be observed in separated Earth based atomic clocks. This gives the opportunity to probe a class of dark matter candidates that for the moment cannot be detected with any different conventional method.

Wormhole Solutions in Modified Brans-Dicke Theory

We consider a modified Brans-Dicke theory in which except the usual Brans-Dicke parameter a new dimensionful parameter appears which modifies the kinetic term of the scalar field coupled to gravity. Solving the coupled Einstein-Klein-Gordon equations we find new spherically symmetric solutions. Depending on the choices of the parameters these solutions reduce to the Schwarzschild solution of General Relativity and they give new wormhole solutions which depend on the new parameter.

Quasinormal modes of three-dimensional rotating Hořava AdS black hole and the approach to thermal equilibrium

We compute the quasinormal modes (QNMs) of a massive scalar field in the background of a rotating three-dimensional Hořava AdS black hole, and we analyze the effect of the breaking of the Lorentz invariance on the QNMs. Imposing on the horizon that there are only ingoing waves and at infinity the Dirichlet boundary conditions and the Neumann boundary condition, we calculate the oscillatory and the decay modes of the QNMs. We find that the propagation of the scalar field is stable in this background and employing the holographic principle we find the different times of the perturbed system to reach thermal equilibrium for the various branches of solutions.

Building a Holographic Superconductor with a Scalar Field Coupled Kinematically to Einstein Tensor

We study the holographic dual description of a superconductor in which the gravity sector consists of a Maxwell field and a charged scalar field which except its minimal coupling to gravity it is also coupled kinematically to Einstein tensor. As the strength of the new coupling is increased, the critical temperature below which the scalar field condenses is lowering, the condensation gap decreases faster than the temperature, the width of the condensation gap is not proportional to the size of the condensate and at low temperatures the condensation gap tends to zero for the strong coupling. These effects which are the result of the presence of the coupling of the scalar field to the Einstein tensor in the gravity bulk, provide a dual description of impurities concentration in a superconducting state on the boundary.

Holographic Fermi Liquids in a Spontaneously Generated Lattice

We discuss fermions in a spontaneously generated holographic lattice background. The lattice structure at the boundary is generated by introducing a higher-derivative interaction term between a U(1) gauge field and a scalar field. We solve the equations of motion below the critical temperature at which the lattice forms, and analyze the change in the Fermi surface due to the lattice. The fermion band structure is found to exhibit a band gap due to lattice effects.

Modified Brans-Dicke cosmology with matter-scalar field interaction

We discuss the cosmological implications of an extended Brans-Dicke theory presented recently, in which there is an energy exchange between the scalar field and ordinary matter, determined by the theory. A new mass scale is generated in the theory which modifies the Friedmann equations with field-dependent corrected kinetic terms. In a radiation universe the general solutions are found and there are branches with complete removal of the initial singularity, while at the same time a transient accelerating period can occur within deceleration. Entropy production is also possible in the early universe. In the dust era, late-times acceleration has been found numerically in agreement with the correct behaviour of the density parameters and the dark energy equation of state, while the gravitational constant has only a slight variation over a large redshift interval in agreement with observational bounds.

Duality between zeroes and poles in holographic systems with massless fermions and a dipole coupling

We discuss the zeroes and poles of the determinant of the retarded Green function ($\det G_R$) at zero frequency in a holographic system of charged massless fermions interacting via a dipole coupling. For large negative values of the dipole coupling constant $p$, $\det G_R$ possesses only poles pointing to a Fermi liquid phase. We show that a duality exists relating systems of opposite $p$. This maps poles of $\det G_R$ at large negative $p$ to zeroes of $\det G_R$ at large positive $p$, indicating that the latter corresponds to a Mott insulator phase. This duality suggests that the properties of a Mott insulator can be studied by mapping the system to a Fermi liquid. Finally, for small values of $p$, $\det G_R$ contains both poles and zeroes (pseudo-gap phase).

Dynamically generated gap from holography in the charged black brane with hyperscaling violation

We holographically investigate the effects of a dipole coupling between a fermion field and a $U(1)$ gauge field on the dual fermionic sector in the charged gravity bulk with hyperscaling violation. We analytically study the features of the ultraviolet and infrared Green's functions of the dual fermionic system and we show that as the dipole coupling and the hyperscaling violation exponent are varied, the fluid possess Fermi, marginal Fermi, non-Fermi liquid phases and also an additional Mott insulating phase. We find that the increase of the hyperscaling violation exponent which effectively reduces the dimensionality of the system makes it harder for the Mott gap to be formed. We also show that the observed duality between zeros and poles in the presence of a dipole moment coupling still persists in theories with hyperscaling violation.

Holographic thermalization in Gauss-Bonnet gravity with de Sitter boundary

We introduce higher-derivative Gauss-Bonnet correction terms in the gravity sector and we relate the modified gravity theory in the bulk to the strongly coupled quantum field theory on a de Sitter boundary. We study the process of holographic thermalization by examining three nonlocal observables, the two-point function, the Wilson loop and the holographic entanglement entropy. We study the time evolution of these three observables and we find that as the strength of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling is increased, the saturation time of the thermalization process to reach thermal equilibrium becomes shorter with the dominant effect given by the holographic entanglement entropy.

Self-Gravitating Spherically Symmetric Solutions in Scalar-Torsion Theories

We studied spherically symmetric solutions in scalar-torsion gravity theories in which a scalar field is coupled to torsion with a derivative coupling. We obtained the general field equations from which we extracted a decoupled master equation, the solution of which leads to the specification of all other unknown functions. We first obtained an exact solution which represents a new wormhole-like solution dressed with a regular scalar field. Then, we found large distance linearized spherically symmetric solutions in which the space asymptotically is AdS.

Black Holes in Bi-scalar Extensions of Horndeski Theories

We study certain bi-scalar-tensor theories emanating from conformal symmetry requirements of Horndeski's four-dimensional action. The former scalar is a Galileon with shift symmetry whereas the latter scalar is adjusted to have a higher order conformal coupling. Employing technics from local Weyl geometry certain Galileon higher order terms are thus constructed to be conformally invariant. The combined shift and partial conformal symmetry of the action, allow us to construct exact black hole solutions. The black holes initially found are of planar horizon geometry embedded in anti de Sitter space and can accommodate electric charge. The conformally coupled scalar comes with an additional independent charge and it is well-defined on the horizon whereas additional regularity of the Galileon field is achieved allowing for time dependence. Guided by our results in adS space-time we then consider a higher order version of the BBMB action and construct asymptotically flat, regular, hairy black holes. The addition of the Galileon field is seen to cure the BBMB scalar horizon singularity while allowing for the presence of primary scalar hair seen as an independent integration constant along-side the mass of the black hole.

Cosmological black holes from self-gravitating fields

Both cosmological expansion and black holes are ubiquitous features of our observable Universe, yet exact solutions connecting the two have remained elusive. To this end, we study self-gravitating classical fields within dynamical spherically symmetric solutions that can describe black holes in an expanding universe. After attempting a perturbative approach of a known black-hole solution with scalar hair, we show by exact methods that the unique scalar field action with first-order derivatives that can source shear-free expansion around a black hole requires noncanonical kinetic terms. The resulting action is an incompressible limit of k-essence, otherwise known as the cuscuton theory, and the spacetime it describes is the McVittie metric. We further show that this solution is an exact solution to the vacuum Hořava-Lifshitz gravity with anisotropic Weyl symmetry.

Entanglement Entropy as a Probe of the Proximity Effect in Holographic Superconductors

We study the entanglement entropy as a probe of the proximity effect of a superconducting system by using the gauge/gravity duality in a fully back-reacted gravity system. While the entanglement entropy in the superconducting phase is less than the entanglement entropy in the normal phase, we find that near the contact interface of the superconducting to normal phase the entanglement entropy has a different behavior due to the leakage of Cooper pairs to the normal phase. We verify this behavior by calculating the conductivity near the boundary interface.

Extremal Hairy Black Holes

We consider a gravitating system consisting of a scalar field minimally coupled to gravity with a self-interacting potential and an U(1) electromagnetic field. Solving the coupled Einstein-Maxwell-scalar system we find exact hairy charged black hole solutions with the scalar field regular everywhere. We go to the zero temperature limit and we study the effect of the scalar field on the near horizon geometry of an extremal black hole. We find that except a critical value of the charge of the black hole there is also a critical value of the charge of the scalar field beyond of which the extremal black hole is destabilized. We study the thermodynamics of these solutions and we find that if the space is flat then at low temperature the Reissner-Nordström black hole is thermodynamically preferred, while if the space is AdS the hairy charged black hole is thermodynamically preferred at low temperature.

Formation of Fermi surfaces and the appearance of liquid phases in holographic theories with hyperscaling violation

We consider a holographic fermionic system in which the fermions are interacting with a U(1) gauge field in the presence of a dilaton field in a gravity bulk of a charged black hole with hyperscaling violation. Using both analytical and numerical methods, we investigate the properties of the infrared and ultaviolet Green's functions of the holographic fermionic system. Studying the spectral functions of the system, we find that as the hyperscaling violation exponent is varied, the fermionic system possesses Fermi, non-Fermi, marginal-Fermi and log-oscillating liquid phases. Various liquid phases of the fermionic system with hyperscaling violation are also generated with the variation of the fermionic mass. We also explore the properties of the flat band and the Fermi surface of the non-relativistic fermionic fixed point dual to the hyperscaling violation gravity.

A Novel Mechanism to Generate FFLO States in Holographic Superconductors

We discuss a novel mechanism to set up a gravity dual of FFLO states in strongly coupled superconductors. The gravitational theory utilizes two U(1) gauge fields and a scalar field coupled to a charged AdS black hole. The first gauge field couples with the scalar sourcing a charge condensate below a critical temperature, and the second gauge field provides a coupling to spin in the boundary theory. The scalar is neutral under the second gauge field. By turning on an interaction between the Einstein tensor and the scalar, it is shown that, in the low temperature limit, an inhomogeneous solution possesses a higher critical temperature than the homogeneous case, giving rise to FFLO states.

Building a Holographic Superconductor with Higher-derivative Couplings

We discuss the gravitational dual of a holographic superconductor consisting of a U(1) gauge field, a complex scalar field coupled to a charged AdS black hole and a higher-derivative coupling between the U(1) gauge field and the scalar with coupling constant η. In the presence of a magnetic field, the system possesses localized spatially dependent droplet solutions which, in the low temperature limit, have smaller critical temperature for η>0 than the droplet solutions without the interaction term (η=0). In the weak magnetic field limit, the opposite behavior is observed: the critical temperature increases as we increase η. We also calculate the energy gap in the probe limit and find that it is larger for η<0 than the energy gap in the conventional case (η=0).

Phase Transition to a Hairy Black Hole in Asymptotically Flat Spacetime

We discuss a phase transition of a Reissner-Nordström black hole to a hairy black hole in asymptotically flat spacetime. The hair is due to a massive charged scalar field. The no-hair theorem is evaded thanks to a derivative coupling of the scalar field to the Einstein tensor. The resulting hairy configuration is spherically symmetric. We solve the equations analytically near the transition temperature and show that the hair is concentrated near the horizon decaying exponentially away from it.

Spontaneously Generated Inhomogeneous Phases via Holography

We discuss a holographic model consisting of a $U(1)$ gauge field and a scalar field coupled to a charged AdS black hole under a spatially homogeneous chemical potential. By turning on a higher-derivative interaction term between the $U(1)$ gauge field and the scalar field, a spatially dependent profile of the scalar field is generated spontaneously. We calculate the critical temperature at which the transition to the inhomogeneous phase occurs for various values of the parameters of the system. We solve the equations of motion below the critical temperature, and show that the dual gauge theory on the boundary spontaneously develops a spatially inhomogeneous charge density.

Scalar Hair from a Derivative Coupling of a Scalar Field to the Einstein Tensor

We consider a gravitating system of vanishing cosmological constant consisting of an electromagnetic field and a scalar field coupled to the Einstein tensor. A Reissner-Nordström black hole undergoes a second-order phase transition to a hairy black hole of generally anisotropic hair at a certain critical temperature which we compute. The no-hair theorem is evaded due to the coupling between the scalar field and the Einstein tensor. Within a first order perturbative approach we calculate explicitly the properties of a hairy black hole configuration near the critical temperature and show that it is energetically favorable over the corresponding Reissner-Nordström black hole.

Anisotropic Extra Dimensions

We consider the scenario where in a five-dimensional theory, the extra spatial dimension has different scaling than the other four dimensions. We find background maximally symmetric solutions, when the bulk is filled with a cosmological constant and at the same time it has a three-brane embedded in it. These background solutions are reminiscent of Randall-Sundrum warped metrics, with bulk curvature depending on the parameters of the breaking of diffeomorphism invariance. Subsequently, we consider the scalar perturbation sector of the theory and show that it has certain pathologies and the striking feature that in the limit where the diffeomorphism invariance is restored, there remain ghost scalar mode(s) in the spectrum.

Holographic Charge Density Waves

We discuss a gravity dual of a charge density wave consisting of a U(1) gauge field and two scalar fields in the background of an AdS$_4$ Schwarzschild black hole together with an antisymmetric field (probe limit). Interactions drive the system to a phase transition below a critical temperature. We numerically compute the ground states characterized by modulated solutions for the gauge potential corresponding to a dynamically generated unidirectional charge density wave in the conformal field theory. Signatures of the holographic density waves are retrieved by studying the dynamical response to an external electric field. We find that this novel holographic state shares many common features with the standard condensed matter version of charge density wave systems.

A New Class of Exact Hairy Black Hole Solutions

We present a new class of black hole solutions with minimally coupled scalar field in the presence of a negative cosmological constant. We consider a one-parameter family of self-interaction potentials parametrized by a dimensionless parameter $g$. When $g=0$, we recover the conformally invariant solution of the Martinez-Troncoso-Zanelli (MTZ) black hole. A non-vanishing $g$ signals the departure from conformal invariance. All solutions are perturbatively stable for negative black hole mass and they may develop instabilities for positive mass. Thermodynamically, there is a critical temperature at vanishing black hole mass, where a higher-order phase transition occurs, as in the case of the MTZ black hole. Additionally, we obtain a branch of hairy solutions which undergo a first-order phase transition at a second critical temperature which depends on $g$ and it is higher than the MTZ critical temperature. As $g\to 0$, this second critical temperature diverges.

Regularization of conical singularities in warped six-dimensional compactifications

We study the regularization of the codimension-2 singularities in six-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell axisymmetric models with warping. These singularities are replaced by codimension-1 branes of a ring form, situated around the axis of symmetry. We assume that there is a brane scalar field with Goldstone dynamics, which is known to generate a brane energy momentum tensor of a particular structure necessary for the above regularization to be successful. We study these compactifications in both a non-supersymmetric and a supersymmetric setting. We see that in the non-supersymmetric case, there is a restriction to the admissible warpings and furthermore to the quantum numbers of the bulk gauge field and the brane scalar field. On the contrary, in the supersymmetric case, the warping can be arbitrary.

Stability of five-dimensional rotating black holes projected on the brane

We study the stability of five-dimensional Myers-Perry black holes with a single angular momentum under linear perturbations, and we compute the quasinormal modes (QNM's) of the black hole metric projected on the brane, using Leaver's continued fraction method. In our numerical search we do not find unstable modes. The damping time of modes having l=m=2 and l=m=1 tends to infinity as the black hole spin tends to the extremal value, showing a behaviour reminiscent of the one observed for ordinary 4-dimensional Kerr black holes.
