Constructions of Delaunay-type solutions for the spinorial Yamabe equation on spheres

In this paper we construct singular solutions to the critical Dirac equation on spheres. More precisely, first we construct solutions admitting two points singularities that we call Delaunay-type solutions because of their similarities with the Delaunay solutions constructed for the singular Yamabe problem in \cite{MP1 , Schoen1989}. Then we construct another kind of singular solutions admitting a great circle as a singular set. These solutions are the building blocks for singular solutions on a general Spin manifold.

Infinite time bubbling for the $SU(2)$ Yang-Mills heat flow on $\mathbb{R}^4$

We investigate the long time behaviour of the Yang-Mills heat flow on the bundle $\mathbb{R}^4\times SU(2)$. Waldron \cite{Waldron2019} proved global existence and smoothness of the flow on closed $4-$manifolds, leaving open the issue of the behaviour in infinite time. We exhibit two types of long-time bubbling: first we construct an initial data and a globally defined solution which {\sl blows-up} in infinite time at a given point in $\mathbb R^4$. Second, we prove the existence of {\sl bubble-tower} solutions, also in infinite time. This answers the basic dynamical properties of the heat flow of Yang-Mills connection in the critical dimension $4$ and shows in particular that in general one cannot expect that this gradient flow converges to a Yang-Mills connection. We emphasize that we do not assume for the first result any symmetry assumption; whereas the second result on the existence of the bubble-tower is in the $SO(4)$-equivariant class, but nevertheless new.

Partial regularity of the heat flow of half-harmonic maps and applications to harmonic maps with free boundary

We introduce a heat flow associated to half-harmonic maps, which have been introduced by Da Lio and Rivière. Those maps exhibit integrability by compensation in one space dimension and are related to harmonic maps with free boundary. We consider a new flow associated to these harmonic maps with free boundary which is actually motivated by a rather unusual heat flow for half-harmonic maps. We construct then weak solutions and prove their partial regularity in space and time via a Ginzburg-Landau approximation. The present paper complements the study initiated by Struwe and Chen-Lin.

Sharp $L^p$ estimates and size of nodal sets for generalized Steklov eigenfunctions

We prove sharp $L^p$ estimates for the Steklov eigenfunctions on compact manifolds with boundary in terms of their $L^2$ norms on the boundary. We prove it by establishing $L^p$ bounds for the harmonic extension operators as well as the spectral projection operators on the boundary. Moreover, we derive lower bounds on the size of nodal sets for a variation of the Steklov spectral problem. We consider a generalized version of the Steklov problem by adding a non-smooth potential on the boundary but some of our results are new even without potential.

$L^p$ eigenfunction bounds for fractional Schrödinger operators on manifolds

This paper is dedicated to $L^p$ bounds on eigenfunctions of a Schödinger-type operator $(-Δ_g)^{α/2} +V$ on closed Riemannian manifolds for critically singular potentials $V$. The operator $(-Δ_g)^{α/2}$ is defined spectrally in terms of the eigenfunctions of $-Δ_g$. We obtain also quasimodes and spectral clusters estimates. As an application, we derive Strichartz estimates for the fractional wave equation $(\partial_t^2+(-Δ_g)^{α/2}+V)u=0$. The wave kernel techniques recently developed by Bourgain-Shao-Sogge-Yao and Shao-Yao play a key role in this paper. We construct a new reproducing operator with several local operators and some good error terms. Moreover, we shall prove that these local operators satisfy certain variable coefficient versions of the "uniform Sobolev estimates" by Kenig-Ruiz-Sogge. These enable us to handle the critically singular potentials $V$ and prove the quasimode estimates.

A variational analysis of the spinorial Yamabe equation on product manifolds

This work is devoted to the analysis of the Yamabe problem on Spin manifolds and some applications to CMC immersions. Despite the efforts of many authors, very little is known on the existence of Yamabe metrics on general Spin manifolds. Motivated to bubbling phenomena for the Riemannian problem and recent multiplicity results in this setting, we investigate special spinorial Yamabe metrics on product manifolds developing a bubbling analysis which has independent interest in the present setting.

Extinction behaviour for the fast diffusion equations with critical exponent and Dirichlet boundary conditions

For a smooth bounded domain $Ω\subseteq\mathbb{R}^n$, $n\geq 3$, we consider the fast diffusion equation with critical sobolev exponent $$\frac{\partial w}{\partialτ} =Δw^{\frac{n-2}{n+2}}$$ under Dirichlet boundary condition $w(\cdot, τ) = 0$ on $\partialΩ$. Using the parabolic gluing method, we prove existence of an initial data $w_0$ such that the corresponding solution has extinction rate of the form $$\|w(\cdot, τ)\|_{L^\infty(Ω)} = γ_0(T-τ)^{\frac{n+2}{4}}\left|\ln(T-τ)\right|^{\frac{n+2}{2(n-2)}}(1+o(1))$$ as $t\to T^-$, here $T > 0$ is the finite extinction time of $w(x, τ)$. This generalizes and provides rigorous proof of a result of Galaktionov and King \cite{galaktionov2001fast} for the radially symmetric case $Ω=B_1(0) : = \{x\in \mathbb{R}^n||x| < 1\}\subset\mathbb{R}^n$.

Regularity for parabolic systems with critical growth in the gradient and applications

Motivated by problems arising in geometric flows, we prove several regularity results for systems of local and nonlocal equations, adapting to the parabolic case a neat argument due to Caffarelli. The geometric motivation of this work comes from recent works arising in the theory harmonic maps with free boundary in particular. We prove Hölder regularity of weak solutions.

On BMO and Carleson measures on Riemannian manifolds

Let $\mathcal{M}$ be a Riemannian $n$-manifold with a metric such that the manifold is Ahlfors-regular. We also assume either non-negative Ricci curvature, or that the Ricci curvature is bounded from below together with a bound on the gradient of the heat kernel. We characterize BMO-functions $u: \mathcal{M} \to \mathbb{R}$ by a Carleson measure condition of their $σ$-harmonic extension $U: \mathcal{M} \times (0,\infty) \to \mathbb{R}$. We make crucial use of a $T(b)$ theorem proved by Hofmann, Mitrea, Mitrea, and Morris. As an application we show that the famous theorem of Coifman--Lions--Meyer--Semmes holds in this class of manifolds: Jacobians of $W^{1,n}$-maps from $\mathcal{M}$ to $\mathbb{R}^n$ can be estimated against BMO-functions, which now follows from the arguments for commutators recently proposed by Lenzmann and the second-named author using only harmonic extensions, integration by parts, and trace space characterizations.

A one-dimensional symmetry result for a class of nonlocal semilinear equations in the plane

We consider entire solutions to $\mathcal{L}u=f(u)$ in $\mathbb R^2$, where $\mathcal L$ is a nonlocal operator with translation invariant, even and compactly supported kernel $K$. Under different assumptions on the operator $\mathcal L$, we show that monotone solutions are necessarily one-dimensional. The proof is based on a Liouville type approach. A variational characterization of the stability notion is also given, extending our results in some cases to stable solutions.

An a posteriori KAM theorem for whiskered tori in Hamiltonian partial differential equations with applications to some ill-posed equations

The goal of this paper is to develop a KAM theory for tori with hyperbolic directions, which applies to Hamiltonian partial differential equations, even to some ill-posed ones. The main result has an \emph{a-posteriori} format, i.e., we show that if there is an approximate solution of an invariance equation which also satisfies some non-degeneracy conditions, then there is a true solution nearby. The a-posteriori format also has other automatic consequences (smooth dependence on parameters, bootstrap of regularity, etc.). The method of proof is based on an iterative method to solve a functional equation for the parameterization of the torus satisfying the invariance equations and for parametrization of directions invariant under the linearizatation. The iterative method does not use transformation theory or action-angle variables. It does not assume that the system is close to integrable. We first develop an abstract theorem. Then, we show how this abstract result applies to some concrete examples, including the scalar Boussinesq equation and the Boussinesq system so that we construct {\sl small amplitude} tori for the equations, which are even in the spatial variable. Note that the equations we use as examples are ill-posed.

Asymptotics for the fractional Allen-Cahn equation and stationary nonlocal minimal surfaces

This article is mainly devoted to the asymptotic analysis of a fractional version of the (elliptic) Allen-Cahn equation in a bounded domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^n$, with or without a source term in the right hand side of the equation (commonly called chemical potential). Compare to the usual Allen-Cahn equation, the Laplace operator is here replaced by the fractional Laplacian $(-Δ)^s$ with $s\in(0,1/2)$, as defined in Fourier space. In the singular limit $\varepsilon\to 0$, we show that arbitrary solutions with uniformly bounded energy converge both in the energetic and geometric sense to surfaces of prescribed nonlocal mean curvature in $Ω$ whenever the chemical potential remains bounded in suitable Sobolev spaces. With no chemical potential, the notion of surface of prescribed nonlocal mean curvature reduces to the stationary version of the nonlocal minimal surfaces introduced by L.A. Caffarelli, J.M. Roquejoffre, and O. Savin. Under the same Sobolev regularity assumption on the chemical potential, we also prove that surfaces of prescribed nonlocal mean curvature have a Minkowski codimension equal to one, and that the associated sets have a locally finite fractional $2s^\prime$-perimeter in $Ω$ for every $s^\prime\in(0,1/2)$.

Optimal Existence and Uniqueness Theory for the Fractional Heat Equation

We construct a theory of existence, uniqueness and regularity of solutions for the fractional heat equation $\partial_t u +(-Δ)^s u=0$, $0<s<1$, posed in the whole space $\mathbb{R}^N$ with data in a class of locally bounded Radon measures that are allowed to grow at infinity with an optimal growth rate. We consider a class of nonnegative weak solutions and prove that there is an equivalence between nonnegative data and solutions, which is given in one direction by the representation formula, in the other one by the initial trace. We review many of the typical properties of the solutions, in particular we prove optimal pointwise estimates and new Harnack inequalities.

A new class of Traveling Solitons for cubic Fractional Nonlinear Schrodinger equations

We consider the one-dimensional cubic fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equation $$i\partial_tu-(-Δ)^σu+|u|^{2}u=0,$$ where $σ\in (\frac12,1)$ and the operator $(-Δ)^σ$ is the fractional Laplacian of symbol $|ξ|^{2σ}$. Despite of lack of any Galilean-type invariance, we construct a new class of traveling soliton solutions of the form $$u(t,x)=e^{-it(|k|^{2σ}-ω^{2σ})}Q_{ω,k}(x-2tσ|k|^{2σ-2}k),\quad k\in\mathbb{R},\ ω>0$$ by a rather involved variational argument.

Entire solutions to semilinear nonlocal equations in $\RR^2$

We consider entire solutions to $L u= f(u)$ in $\RR^2$, where $L$ is a general nonlocal operator with kernel $K(y)$. Under certain natural assumtions on the operator $L$, we show that any stable solution is a 1D solution. In particular, our result applies to any solution $u$ which is monotone in one direction. Compared to other proofs of the De Giorgi type results on nonlocal equations, our method is the first successfull attempt to use the Liouville theorem approach to get flatness of the level sets.

On Fractional Schrodinger Equations in sobolev spaces

Let $σ\in(0,1)$ with $σ\neq\frac{1}{2}$. We investigate the fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equation in $\mathbb R^d$: $$i\partial_tu+(-Δ)^σu+μ|u|^{p-1}u=0,\, u(0)=u_0\in H^s,$$ where $(-Δ)^σ$ is the Fourier multiplier of symbol $|ξ|^{2σ}$, and $μ=\pm 1$. This model has been introduced by Laskin in quantum physics \cite{laskin}. We establish local well-posedness and ill-posedness in Sobolev spaces for power-type nonlinearities.

Singular Perturbation Problem in Boundary/Fractional Combustion

Motivated by a nonlocal free boundary problem, we study uniform properties of solutions to a singular perturbation problem for a boundary-reaction-diffusion equation, where the reaction term is of combustion type. This boundary problem is related to the fractional Laplacian. After an optimal uniform Hölder regularity is shown, we pass to the limit to study the free boundary problem it leads to.

Symmetrization for fractional elliptic and parabolic equations and an isoperimetric application

We develop further the theory of symmetrization of fractional Laplacian operators contained in recent works of two of the authors. The theory leads to optimal estimates in the form of concentration comparison inequalities for both elliptic and parabolic equations. In this paper we extend the theory for the so-called \emph{restricted} fractional Laplacian defined on a bounded domain $Ω$ of $\mathbb R^N$ with zero Dirichlet conditions outside of $Ω$. As an application, we derive an original proof of the corresponding fractional Faber-Krahn inequality. We also provide a more classical variational proof of the inequality.

Symmetry results for fractional elliptic systems and related problems

We study elliptic gradient systems with fractional laplacian operators on the whole space $$ (- Δ)^\mathbf s \mathbf u =\nabla H (\mathbf u) \ \ \text{in}\ \ \mathbf{R}^n,$$ where $\mathbf u:\mathbf{R}^n\to \mathbf{R}^m$, $H\in C^{2,γ}(\mathbf{R}^m)$ for $γ> \max(0,1-2\min \left \{s_i \right \})$, $\mathbf s=(s_1,\cdots,s_m)$ for $0<s_i<1$ and $\nabla H (\mathbf u)=(H_{u_i}(u_1, u_2,\cdots,u_m))_{i}$. We prove De Giorgi type results for this system for certain values of $\mathbf s$ and in lower dimensions, i.e. $n=2,3$. Just like the local case, the concepts of orientable systems and $H-$monotone solutions, established in [18], play the key role in proving symmetry results. In addition, we provide optimal energy estimates, a monotonicity formula, a Hamiltonian identity and various Liouville theorems.

Bubbling solutions for nonlocal elliptic problems

We investigate bubbling solutions for the nonlocal equation \[ A_Ω^s u =u^p,\ u >0 \quad \mbox{in } Ω, \] under homogeneous Dirichlet conditions, where $Ω$ is a bounded and smooth domain. The operator $A_Ω^s$ stands for two types of nonlocal operators that we treat in a unified way: either the spectral fractional Laplacian or the restricted fractional Laplacian. In both cases $s \in (0,1)$ and the Dirichlet conditions are different: for the spectral fractional Laplacian, we prescribe $u=0$ on $\partial Ω$ and for the restricted fractional Laplacian, we prescribe $u=0$ on $\mathbb R^n \setminus Ω$. We construct solutions when the exponent $p = (n+2s)/(n-2s) \pm \varepsilon$ is close to the critical one, concentrating as $\varepsilon \to 0$ near critical points of a reduced function involving the Green and Robin functions of the domain

Conformal Spectrum and Harmonic maps

This paper is devoted to the study of the conformal spectrum (and more precisely the first eigenvalue) of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on a smooth connected compact Riemannian surface without boundary, endowed with a conformal class. We give a constructive proof of a critical metric which is smooth except at some conical singularities and maximizes the first eigenvalue in the conformal class of the background metric. We also prove that the map associating a finite number of eigenvectors of the maximizing $λ_1$ into the sphere is harmonic, establishing a link between conformal spectrum and harmonic maps.

Construction of invariant whiskered tori by a parameterization method. Part II: Quasi-periodic and almost periodic breathers in coupled map lattices

We construct quasi-periodic and almost periodic solutions for coupled Hamiltonian systems on an infinite lattice which is translation invariant. The couplings can be long range, provided that they decay moderately fast with respect to the distance. For the solutions we construct, most of the sites are moving in a neighborhood of a hyperbolic fixed point, but there are oscillating sites clustered around a sequence of nodes. The amplitude of these oscillations does not need to tend to zero. In particular, the almost periodic solutions do not decay at infinity. We formulate an invariance equation. Solutions of this equation are embeddings of an invariant torus on which the motion is conjugate to a rotation. We show that, if there is an approximate solution of the invariance equation that satisfies some non-degeneracy conditions, there is a true solution close by. The proof of this \emph{a-posteriori} theorem is based on a Nash-Moser iteration, which does not use transformation theory. Simpler versions of the scheme were developed in E. Fontich, R. de la Llave,Y. Sire \emph{J. Differential. Equations.} {\bf 246}, 3136 (2009). One technical tool, important for our purposes, is the use of weighted spaces that capture the idea that the maps under consideration are local interactions. Using these weighted spaces, the estimates of iterative steps are similar to those in finite dimensional spaces. In particular, the estimates are independent of the number of nodes that get excited. Using these techniques, given two breathers, we can place them apart and obtain an approximate solution, which leads to a true solution nearby. By repeating the process infinitely often, we can get solutions with infinitely many frequencies which do not tend to zero at infinity.

Existence, Uniqueness and Asymptotic behaviour for fractional porous medium equations on bounded domains

We consider nonlinear diffusive evolution equations posed on bounded space domains, governed by fractional Laplace-type operators, and involving porous medium type nonlinearities. We establish existence and uniqueness results in a suitable class of solutions using the theory of maximal monotone operators on dual spaces. Then we describe the long-time asymptotics in terms of separate-variables solutions of the friendly giant type. As a by-product, we obtain an existence and uniqueness result for semilinear elliptic non local equations with sub-linear nonlinearities. The Appendix contains a review of the theory of fractional Sobolev spaces and of the interpolation theory that are used in the rest of the paper.

Nonlocal equations with measure data

We develop an existence, regularity and potential theory for nonlinear integrodifferential equations involving measure data. The nonlocal elliptic operators considered are possibly degenerate and cover the case of the fractional $p$-Laplacean operator with measurable coefficients. We introduce a natural function class where we solve the Dirichlet problem, and prove basic and optimal nonlinear Wolff potential estimates for solutions. These are the exact analogs of the results valid in the case of local quasilinear degenerate equations established by Boccardo & Gallouët \cite{BG1, BG2} and Kilpeläinen & Malý \cite{KM1, KM2}. As a consequence, we establish a number of results which can be considered as basic building blocks for a nonlocal, nonlinear potential theory: fine properties of solutions, Calderón-Zygmund estimates, continuity and boundedness criteria are established via Wolff potentials. %In particular, optimal Lorentz spaces continuity criteria follow. A main tool is the introduction of a global excess functional that allows to prove a nonlocal analog of the classical theory due to Campanato \cite{camp}. Our results cover the case of linear nonlocal equations with measurable coefficients, and the one of the fractional Laplacean, and are new already in such cases.

On a fractional Ginzburg-Landau equation and 1/2-harmonic maps into spheres

This paper is devoted to the asymptotic analysis of a fractional version of the Ginzburg-Landau equation in bounded domains, where the Laplacian is replaced by an integro-differential operator related to the square root Laplacian as defined in Fourier space. In the singular Ginzburg-Landau limit, we show that solutions with uniformly bounded energy converge weakly to sphere valued 1/2-harmonic maps, i.e., the fractional analogues of the usual harmonic maps. In addition, the convergence holds in smooth functions spaces away from a (n-1)-rectifiable closed set of finite (n-1)-Hausdorff measure. The proof relies on the representation of the square root Laplacian as a Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator in one more dimension, and on the analysis of a boundary version of the Ginzburg-Landau equation. Besides the analysis of the fractional Ginzburg-Landau equation, we also give a general partial regularity result for stationary 1/2-harmonic maps in arbitrary dimension.

Convexity of level sets for elliptic problems in convex domains or convex rings: two counterexamples

This paper deals with some geometrical properties of solutions of some semilinear elliptic equations in bounded convex domains or convex rings. Constant boundary conditions are imposed on the single component of the boundary when the domain is convex, or on each of the two components of the boundary when the domain is a convex ring. A function is called quasiconcave if its superlevel sets, defined in a suitable way when the domain is a convex ring, are all convex. In this paper, we prove that the superlevel sets of the solutions do not always inherit the convexity or ring-convexity of the domain. Namely, we give two counterexamples to this quasiconcavity property: the first one for some two-dimensional convex domains and the second one for some convex rings in any dimension.

Local analysis of solutions of fractional semi-linear elliptic equations with isolated singularities

In this paper, we study the local behaviors of nonnegative local solutions of fractional order semi-linear equations $(-Δ)^σu=u^{\frac{n+2σ}{n-2σ}}$ with an isolated singularity, where $σ\in (0,1)$. We prove that all the solutions are asymptotically radially symmetric. When $σ=1$, these have been proved in \cite{CGS} by Caffarelli, Gidas and Spruck.

Refined Sobolev inequalities on manifolds with ends

By considering a suitable Besov type norm, we obtain refined Sobolev inequalities on a family of Riemannian manifolds with (possibly exponentially large) ends. The interest is twofold: on one hand, these inequalities are stable by multiplication by rapidly oscillating functions, much as the original ones \cite{GMO}, and on the other hand our Besov space is stable by spectral localization associated to the Laplace-Beltrami operator (while $ L^p $ spaces, with $ p \ne 2 $, are in general not preserved by such localizations on manifolds with exponentially large ends). We also prove an abstract version of refined Sobolev inequalities for any selfadjoint operator on a measure space (Proposition \ref{general}).

Rigidity results for non local phase transitions in the Heisenberg group $H$

In the Heisenberg group framework, we study rigidity properties for stable solutions of $(-Δ_H)^s v = f(v)$ in $H$, $s \in (0,1)$. We obtain a Poincaré type inequality in connection with a degenerate elliptic equation in $\R^4_+$; through an extension (or "lifting") procedure, this inequality will be then used for giving a criterion under which the level sets of the above solutions are minimal surfaces in $H$, i.e. they have vanishing mean curvature.

Boundary regularity for the Poisson equation in reifenberg-flat domains

This paper is devoted to the investigation of the boundary regularity for the Poisson equation $${{cc} -Δu = f & \text{in} Ω u= 0 & \text{on} \partial Ω$$ where $f$ belongs to some $L^p(Ω)$ and $Ω$ is a Reifenberg-flat domain of $\mathbb R^n.$ More precisely, we prove that given an exponent $α\in (0,1)$, there exists an $\varepsilon>0$ such that the solution $u$ to the previous system is locally Hölder continuous provided that $Ω$ is $(\varepsilon,r_0)$-Reifenberg-flat. The proof is based on Alt-Caffarelli-Friedman's monotonicity formula and Morrey-Campanato theorem.

Layer solutions for the fractional Laplacian on hyperbolic space: existence, uniqueness and qualitative properties

We investigate the equation $$(-Δ_{\mathbb H^n})^γ w=f(w)\quad in \mathbb H^{n},$$ where $(-Δ_{\mathbb H^n})^γ$ corresponds to the fractional Laplacian on hyperbolic space for $γ\in (0,1)$ and $f$ is a smooth nonlinearity that typically comes from a double well potential. We prove the existence of heteroclinic connections in the following sense; a so-called layer solution is a smooth solution of the previous equation converging to $\pm 1$ at any point of the two hemispheres $S_\pm \subset \partial_\infty \mathbb H^n$ and which is strictly increasing with respect to the signed distance to a totally geodesic hyperplane $Π.$ We prove that under additional conditions on the nonlinearity uniqueness holds up to isometry. Then we provide several symmetry results and qualitative properties of the layer solutions. Finally, we consider the multilayer case, at least when $γ$ is close to one.

Nonlinear equations for fractional Laplacians II: existence, uniqueness, and qualitative properties of solutions

This paper, which is the follow-up to part I, concerns the equation $(-Δ)^{s} v+G'(v)=0$ in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$, with $s \in (0,1)$, where $(-Δ)^{s}$ stands for the fractional Laplacian ---the infinitesimal generator of a Lévy process. When $n=1$, we prove that there exists a layer solution of the equation (i.e., an increasing solution with limits $\pm 1$ at $\pm \infty$) if and only if the potential $G$ has only two absolute minima in $[-1,1]$, located at $\pm 1$ and satisfying $G'(-1)=G'(1)=0$. Under the additional hypothesis $G"(-1)>0$ and $G"(1)>0$, we also establish its uniqueness and asymptotic behavior at infinity. Furthermore, we provide with a concrete, almost explicit, example of layer solution. For $n\geq 1$, we prove some results related to the one-dimensional symmetry of certain solutions ---in the spirit of a well-known conjecture of De Giorgi for the standard Laplacian.

Propagation of low regularity for solutions of nonlinear PDEs on a Riemannian manifold with a sub-Laplacian structure

Following \cite{B2}, we introduce a notion of para-products associated to a semi-group. We do not use Fourier transform arguments and the background manifold is doubling, endowed with a sub-laplacian structure. Our main result is a paralinearization theorem in a non-euclidean framework, with an application to the propagation of regularity for some nonlinear PDEs.

Computation of whiskered invariant tori and their associated manifolds: new fast algorithms

In this paper we present efficient algorithms for the computation of several invariant objects for Hamiltonian dynamics. More precisely, we consider KAM tori (i.e diffeomorphic copies of the torus such that the motion on them is conjugated to a rigid rotation) both Lagrangian tori (of maximal dimension) and whiskered tori (i.e. tori with hyperbolic directions which, together with the tangents to the torus and the symplectic conjugates span the whole tangent space). In the case of whiskered tori, we also present algorithms to compute the invariant splitting and the invariant manifolds associated to the splitting. We present them both for the case of discrete time and for differential equations. The algorithms are based on a Newton method to solve an appropriately chosen functional equation that expresses invariance. The algorithms are efficient: if we discretize the objects by $N$ elements, one step of the Newton method requires only O(N) storage and $O(N \ln(N))$ operations. Furthermore, if the object we consider is of dimension $\ell$, we only need to compute functions of $\ell$ variables, independently of what is the dimension of the phase space. The algorithms do not require that the system is presented in action-angle variables nor that it is close to integrable. The algorithms are backed up by rigorous \emph{a-posteriori} bounds which state that if the equations are solved with a small residual and some explicitly computable condition numbers are not too big, then, there is a true solution which is close to the computed one. The algorithms apply both to primary (i.e non-contractible) and secondary tori (i.e. contractible to a torus of lower dimension, such as islands). They have already been implemented. We will report on the technicalities of the implementation and the results of running them elsewhere.

Nonlinear equations for fractional Laplacians I: Regularity, maximum principles, and Hamiltonian estimates

This is the first of two articles dealing with the equation $(-Δ)^{s} v= f(v)$ in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$, with $s\in (0,1)$, where $(-Δ)^{s}$ stands for the fractional Laplacian ---the infinitesimal generator of a Lévy process. This equation can be realized as a local linear degenerate elliptic equation in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}_+$ together with a nonlinear Neumann boundary condition on $\partial \mathbb{R}^{n+1}_+=\mathbb{R}^{n}$. In this first article, we establish necessary conditions on the nonlinearity $f$ to admit certain type of solutions, with special interest in bounded increasing solutions in all of $\mathbb{R}$. These necessary conditions (which will be proven in a follow-up paper to be also sufficient for the existence of a bounded increasing solution) are derived from an equality and an estimate involving a Hamiltonian ---in the spirit of a result of Modica for the Laplacian. In addition, we study regularity issues, as well as maximum and Harnack principles associated to the equation.

Regularity of radial extremal solutions for some non local semilinear equations

The operator $(-Δ)^s$ stands for the fractional Laplacian, a pseudo-differential operator of order $2s$. According to the value of $λ$, we study the existence and regularity of weak solutions $u$.

Some possibly degenerate elliptic problems with measure data and non linearity on the boundary

The goal of this paper is to study some possibly degenerate elliptic equation in a bounded domain with a nonlinear boundary condition involving measure data. We investigate two types of problems: the first one deals with the laplacian in a bounded domain with measure supported on the domain and on the boundary. A second one deals with the same type of data but involves a degenerate weight in the equation. In both cases, the nonlinearity under consideration lies on the boundary. For the first problem, we prove an optimal regularity result, whereas for the second one the optimality is not guaranteed but we provide however regularity estimates.

Fractional Poincaré inequalities for general measures

We prove a fractional version of Poincaré inequalities in the context of $\R^n$ endowed with a fairly general measure. Namely we prove a control of an $L^2$ norm by a non local quantity, which plays the role of the gradient in the standard Poincaré inequality. The assumption on the measure is the fact that it satisfies the classical Poincaré inequality, so that our result is an improvement of the latter inequality. Moreover we also quantify the tightness at infinity provided by the control on the fractional derivative in terms of a weight growing at infinity. The proof goes through the introduction of the generator of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup and some careful estimates of its powers. To our knowledge this is the first proof of fractional Poincaré inequality for measures more general than Lévy measures.
