Second Rényi entropy and annulus partition function for one-dimensional quantum critical systems with boundaries

We consider the entanglement entropy in critical one-dimensional quantum systems with open boundary conditions. We show that the second Rényi entropy of an interval away from the boundary can be computed exactly, provided the same conformal boundary condition is applied on both sides. The result involves the annulus partition function. We compare our exact result with numerical computations for the critical quantum Ising chain with open boundary conditions. We find excellent agreement, and we analyse in detail the finite-size corrections, which are known to be much larger than for a periodic system.

Finite-size corrections in critical symmetry-resolved entanglement

In the presence of a conserved quantity, symmetry-resolved entanglement entropies are a refinement of the usual notion of entanglement entropy of a subsystem. For critical 1d quantum systems, it was recently shown in various contexts that these quantities generally obey entropy equipartition in the scaling limit, i.e. they become independent of the symmetry sector. In this paper, we examine the finite-size corrections to the entropy equipartition phenomenon, and show that the nature of the symmetry group plays a crucial role. In the case of a discrete symmetry group, the corrections decay algebraically with system size, with exponents related to the operators' scaling dimensions. In contrast, in the case of a U(1) symmetry group, the corrections only decay logarithmically with system size, with model-dependent prefactors. We show that the determination of these prefactors boils down to the computation of twisted overlaps.

The fully packed loop model as a non-rational $W_3$ conformal field theory

The fully packed loop (FPL) model is a statistical model related to the integrable $U_q(\hat{\mathfrak{sl}}_3)$ vertex model. In this paper we study the continuum limit of the FPL. With the appropriate weight of non-contractible loops, we give evidence of an extended $W_3$ symmetry in the continuum. The partition function on the torus is calculated exactly, yielding new modular invariants of $W_3$ characters. The full CFT spectrum is obtained, and is found to be in excellent agreement with exact diagonalisation.

Correlation functions in loop models

In this paper we provide a step towards the understanding of the O($n$) bulk operator algebra. By using a mixture of analytical and numerical methods, we compute (ratios of) structure constants, and analyse the logarithmic structure of the transfer matrix. We believe that the O($n$) model for a generic value of $n = q + q^{-1}$ (i.e. for $q$ not a root of unity) provides a toy model of a bulk logarithmic CFT that is considerably simpler than its counterparts at $q$ a root of unity.

Three-point functions in c <= 1 Liouville theory and conformal loop ensembles

The possibility of extending the Liouville Conformal Field Theory from values of the central charge $c \geq 25$ to $c \leq 1$ has been debated for many years in condensed matter physics as well as in string theory. It was only recently proven that such an extension -- involving a real spectrum of critical exponents as well as an analytic continuation of the DOZZ formula for three-point couplings -- does give rise to a consistent theory. We show in this Letter that this theory can be interpreted in terms of microscopic loop models. We introduce in particular a family of geometrical operators, and, using an efficient algorithm to compute three-point functions from the lattice, we show that their operator algebra corresponds exactly to that of vertex operators $V_{\hatα}$ in $c \leq 1$ Liouville. We interpret geometrically the limit $\hatα \to 0$ of $V_{\hatα}$ and explain why it is not the identity operator (despite having conformal weight $Δ=0$).

Non-Linear Integral Equations for the SL(2,R)/U(1) black hole sigma model

It was previously established that the critical staggered XXZ spin chain provides a lattice regularization of the black hole CFT. We reconsider the continuum limit of this spin chain with the exact method of non-linear integral equations (NLIEs), paying particular attention to the effects of a singular integration kernel. With the help of the NLIEs, we rederive the continuous black hole spectrum, but also numerically match the density of states of the spin chain with that of the CFT, which is a new result. Finally, we briefly discuss the integrable structure of the black hole CFT and the identification of its massive integrable perturbation on the lattice.

An integrable spin chain for the SL(2,R)/U(1) black hole sigma model

We introduce a spin chain based on finite-dimensional spin-1/2 SU(2) representations but with a non-hermitian `Hamiltonian' and show, using mostly analytical techniques, that it is described at low energies by the SL(2,R)/U(1) Euclidian black hole Conformal Field Theory. This identification goes beyond the appearance of a non-compact spectrum: we are also able to determine the density of states, and show that it agrees with the formulas in [J. Math. Phys. 42, 2961 (2001)] and [JHEP 04, 014 (2002)], hence providing a direct `physical measurement' of the associated reflection amplitude.

Discretely holomorphic parafermions and integrable boundary conditions

In two-dimensional statistical models possessing a discretely holomorphic parafermion, we introduce a modified discrete Cauchy-Riemann equation on the boundary of the domain, and we show that the solution of this equation yields integrable boundary Boltzmann weights. This approach is applied to (i) the square-lattice O(n) loop model, where the exact locations of the special and ordinary transitions are recovered, and (ii) the Fateev-Zamolodchikov $Z_N$ spin model, where a new rotation-invariant, integrable boundary condition is discovered for generic $N$.

Finite-size left-passage probability in percolation

We obtain an exact finite-size expression for the probability that a percolation hull will touch the boundary, on a strip of finite width. Our calculation is based on the q-deformed Knizhnik--Zamolodchikov approach, and the results are expressed in terms of symplectic characters. In the large size limit, we recover the scaling behaviour predicted by Schramm's left-passage formula. We also derive a general relation between the left-passage probability in the Fortuin--Kasteleyn cluster model and the magnetisation profile in the open XXZ chain with diagonal, complex boundary terms.

An integrable modification of the critical Chalker-Coddington network model

We consider the Chalker-Coddington network model for the Integer Quantum Hall Effect, and examine the possibility of solving it exactly. In the supersymmetric path integral framework, we introduce a truncation procedure, leading to a series of well-defined two-dimensional loop models, with two loop flavours. In the phase diagram of the first-order truncated model, we identify four integrable branches related to the dilute Birman-Wenzl-Murakami braid-monoid algebra, and parameterised by the loop fugacity $n$. In the continuum limit, two of these branches (1,2) are described by a pair of decoupled copies of a Coulomb-Gas theory, whereas the other two branches (3,4) couple the two loop flavours, and relate to an $SU(2)_r \times SU(2)_r / SU(2)_{2r}$ Wess-Zumino-Witten (WZW) coset model for the particular values $n= -2\cos[π/(r+2)]$ where $r$ is a positive integer. The truncated Chalker-Coddington model is the $n=0$ point of branch 4. By numerical diagonalisation, we find that its universality class is neither an analytic continuation of the WZW coset, nor the universality class of the original Chalker-Coddington model. It constitutes rather an integrable, critical approximation to the latter.

A Temperley-Lieb quantum chain with two- and three-site interactions

We study a quantum chain of spin-1/2 particles whose world lines form a loop gas. In addition to the usual interaction that projects a pair of neighboring spins onto quantum-group spin 0, we introduce a three-site interaction that projects onto spin 3/2. Changing the relative strengths of these interactions leads to a rich phase diagram containing gapped and critical phases, and exactly solvable points. For loop weight $n=2 \cos [π/(p+1)]$, the model corresponds to N=p-3 species of interacting anyons, of which only the Fibonacci case N=1 was studied previously. Our study applies to real n, and provides further exact results which were unnoticed even for the special case N=1.

The $Z_2$ staggered vertex model and its applications

New solvable vertex models can be easily obtained by staggering the spectral parameter in already known ones. This simple construction reveals some surprises: for appropriate values of the staggering, highly non-trivial continuum limits can be obtained. The simplest case of staggering with period two (the $Z_2$ case) for the six-vertex model was shown to be related, in one regime of the spectral parameter, to the critical antiferromagnetic Potts model on the square lattice, and has a non-compact continuum limit. Here, we study the other regime: in the very anisotropic limit, it can be viewed as a zig-zag spin chain with spin anisotropy, or as an anyonic chain with a generic (non-integer) number of species. From the Bethe-Ansatz solution, we obtain the central charge $c=2$, the conformal spectrum, and the continuum partition function, corresponding to one free boson and two Majorana fermions. Finally, we obtain a massive integrable deformation of the model on the lattice. Interestingly, its scattering theory is a massive version of the one for the flow between minimal models. The corresponding field theory is argued to be a complex version of the $C_2^{(2)}$ Toda theory.
