Bipartite fidelity for models with periodic boundary conditions

For a given statistical model, the bipartite fidelity $\mathcal F$ is computed from the overlap between the groundstate of a system of size $N$ and the tensor product of the groundstates of the same model defined on two subsystems $A$ and $B$, of respective sizes $N_A$ and $N_B$ with $N = N_A + N_B$. In this paper, we study $\mathcal F$ for critical lattice models in the case where the full system has periodic boundary conditions. We consider two possible choices of boundary conditions for the subsystems $A$ and $B$, namely periodic and open. For these two cases, we derive the conformal field theory prediction for the leading terms in the $1/N$ expansion of $\mathcal F$, in a most general case that corresponds to the insertion of four and five fields, respectively. We provide lattice calculations of $\mathcal F$, both exact and numerical, for two free-fermionic lattice models: the XX spin chain and the model of critical dense polymers. We study the asymptotic behaviour of the lattice results for these two models and find an agreement with the predictions of conformal field theory.

Finite-size corrections in critical symmetry-resolved entanglement

In the presence of a conserved quantity, symmetry-resolved entanglement entropies are a refinement of the usual notion of entanglement entropy of a subsystem. For critical 1d quantum systems, it was recently shown in various contexts that these quantities generally obey entropy equipartition in the scaling limit, i.e. they become independent of the symmetry sector. In this paper, we examine the finite-size corrections to the entropy equipartition phenomenon, and show that the nature of the symmetry group plays a crucial role. In the case of a discrete symmetry group, the corrections decay algebraically with system size, with exponents related to the operators' scaling dimensions. In contrast, in the case of a U(1) symmetry group, the corrections only decay logarithmically with system size, with model-dependent prefactors. We show that the determination of these prefactors boils down to the computation of twisted overlaps.

Groundstate finite-size corrections and dilogarithm identities for the twisted $A_1^{(1)}$, $A_2^{(1)}$ and $A_2^{(2)}$ models

We consider the $Y$-systems satisfied by the $A_1^{(1)}$, $A_2^{(1)}$, $A_2^{(2)}$ vertex and loop models at roots of unity with twisted boundary conditions on the cylinder. The vertex models are the 6-, 15- and Izergin-Korepin 19-vertex models respectively. The corresponding loop models are the dense, fully packed and dilute Temperley-Lieb loop models respectively. For all three models, our focus is on roots of unity values of $e^{iλ}$ with the crossing parameter $λ$ corresponding to the principal and dual series of these models. Converting the known functional equations to nonlinear integral equations in the form of Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (TBA) equations, we solve the $Y$-systems for the finite-size $\frac 1N$ corrections to the groundstate eigenvalue following the methods of Klümper and Pearce. The resulting expressions for $c-24Δ$, where $c$ is the central charge and $Δ$ is the conformal weight associated with the groundstate, are simplified using various dilogarithm identities. Our analytic results are in agreement with previous results obtained by different methods and are new for the dual series of the $A_2^{(1)}$ model.

Boundary emptiness formation probabilities in the six-vertex model at $Δ= -\frac12$

We define a new family of overlaps $C_{N,m}$ for the XXZ Hamiltonian on a periodic chain of length $N$. These are equal to the linear sums of the groundstate components, in the canonical basis, wherein $m$ consecutive spins are fixed to the state ${\uparrow}$. We define the boundary emptiness formation probabilities as the ratios $C_{N,m}/C_{N,0}$ of these overlaps. In the associated six-vertex model, they correspond to correlation functions on a semi-infinite cylinder of perimeter $N$. At the combinatorial point $Δ= -\frac12$, we obtain closed-form expressions in terms of simple products of ratios of integers.

Bipartite fidelity of critical dense polymers

We investigate the bipartite fidelity $\mathcal F_d$ for a lattice model described by a logarithmic CFT: the model of critical dense polymers. We define this observable in terms of a partition function on the pants geometry, where $d$ defects enter at the top of the pants lattice and exit in one of the legs. Using the correspondence with the XX spin chain, we obtain an exact closed-form expression for $\mathcal F_d$ and compute the leading terms in its $1/N$ asymptotic expansion as a function of $x = N_A/N$, where $N$ is the lattice width at the top of the pants and $N_A$ is the width of the leg where the defects exit. We find an agreement with the results of Stéphan and Dubail for rational CFTs, with the central charge and conformal weights specialised to $c=-2$ and $Δ= Δ_{1,d+1} = d(d-2)/8$. We compute a second instance $\mathcal {\tilde F}_2$ of the bipartite fidelity for $d=2$ by imposing a different rule for the connection of the defects. In the conformal setting, this choice corresponds to inserting two boundary condition changing fields of weight $Δ= 0$ that are logarithmic instead of primary. We compute the asymptotic expansion in this case as well and find a simple additive correction compared to $\mathcal F_2$, of the form $-2\log((1+x)/(2\sqrt{x}))$. We confirm this lattice result with a CFT derivation and find that this correction term is identical for all logarithmic theories, independently of $c$ and $Δ$.

Fusion hierarchies, $T$-systems and $Y$-systems for the dilute $A_2^{(2)}$ loop models

The fusion hierarchy, $T$-system and $Y$-system of functional equations are the key to integrability for 2d lattice models. We derive these equations for the generic dilute $A_2^{(2)}$ loop models. The fused transfer matrices are associated with nodes of the infinite dominant integral weight lattice of $s\ell(3)$. For generic values of the crossing parameter $λ$, the $T$- and $Y$-systems do not truncate. For the case $\fracλπ=\frac{(2p'-p)}{4p'}$ rational so that $x=\mathrm{e}^{\mathrm{i}λ}$ is a root of unity, we find explicit closure relations and derive closed finite $T$- and $Y$-systems. The TBA diagrams of the $Y$-systems and associated Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (TBA) integral equations are not of simple Dynkin type. They involve $p'+2$ nodes if $p$ is even and $2p'+2$ nodes if $p$ is odd and are related to the TBA diagrams of $A_2^{(1)}$ models at roots of unity by a ${\Bbb Z}_2$ folding which originates from the addition of crossing symmetry. In an appropriate regime, the known central charges are $c=1-\frac{6(p-p')^2}{pp'}$. Prototypical examples of the $A_2^{(2)}$ loop models, at roots of unity, include critical dense polymers ${\cal DLM}(1,2)$ with central charge $c=-2$, $λ=\frac{3π}{8}$ and loop fugacity $β=0$ and critical site percolation on the triangular lattice ${\cal DLM}(2,3)$ with $c=0$, $λ=\fracπ{3}$ and $β=1$. Solving the TBA equations for the conformal data will determine whether these models lie in the same universality classes as their $A_1^{(1)}$ counterparts. More specifically, it will confirm the extent to which bond and site percolation lie in the same universality class as logarithmic conformal field theories.

Integrability and conformal data of the dimer model

The central charge of the dimer model on the square lattice is still being debated in the literature. In this paper, we provide evidence supporting the consistency of a $c=-2$ description. Using Lieb's transfer matrix and its description in terms of the Temperley-Lieb algebra $TL_n$ at $β= 0$, we provide a new solution of the dimer model in terms of the model of critical dense polymers on a tilted lattice and offer an understanding of the lattice integrability of the dimer model. The dimer transfer matrix is analysed in the scaling limit and the result for $L_0-\frac c{24}$ is expressed in terms of fermions. Higher Virasoro modes are likewise constructed as limits of elements of $TL_n$ and are found to yield a $c=-2$ realisation of the Virasoro algebra, familiar from fermionic $bc$ ghost systems. In this realisation, the dimer Fock spaces are shown to decompose, as Virasoro modules, into direct sums of Feigin-Fuchs modules, themselves exhibiting reducible yet indecomposable structures. In the scaling limit, the eigenvalues of the lattice integrals of motion are found to agree exactly with those of the $c=-2$ conformal integrals of motion. Consistent with the expression for $L_0-\frac c{24}$ obtained from the transfer matrix, we also construct higher Virasoro modes with $c=1$ and find that the dimer Fock space is completely reducible under their action. However, the transfer matrix is found not to be a generating function for the $c=1$ integrals of motion. Although this indicates that Lieb's transfer matrix description is incompatible with the $c=1$ interpretation, it does not rule out the existence of an alternative, $c=1$ compatible, transfer matrix description of the dimer model.

Symmetry classes of alternating sign matrices in the nineteen-vertex model

The nineteen-vertex model on a periodic lattice with an anti-diagonal twist is investigated. Its inhomogeneous transfer matrix is shown to have a simple eigenvalue, with the corresponding eigenstate displaying intriguing combinatorial features. Similar results were previously found for the same model with a diagonal twist. The eigenstate for the anti-diagonal twist is explicitly constructed using the quantum separation of variables technique. A number of sum rules and special components are computed and expressed in terms of Kuperberg's determinants for partition functions of the inhomogeneous six-vertex model. The computations of some components of the special eigenstate for the diagonal twist are also presented. In the homogeneous limit, the special eigenstates become eigenvectors of the Hamiltonians of the integrable spin-one XXZ chain with twisted boundary conditions. Their sum rules and special components for both twists are expressed in terms of generating functions arising in the weighted enumeration of various symmetry classes of alternating sign matrices (ASMs). These include half-turn symmetric ASMs, quarter-turn symmetric ASMs, vertically symmetric ASMs, vertically and horizontally perverse ASMs and double U-turn ASMs. As side results, new determinant and pfaffian formulas for the weighted enumeration of various symmetry classes of alternating sign matrices are obtained.

Boundary algebras and Kac modules for logarithmic minimal models

Virasoro Kac modules were initially introduced indirectly as representations whose characters arise in the continuum scaling limits of certain transfer matrices in logarithmic minimal models, described using Temperley-Lieb algebras. The lattice transfer operators include seams on the boundary that use Wenzl-Jones projectors. If the projectors are singular, the original prescription is to select a subspace of the Temperley-Lieb modules on which the action of the transfer operators is non-singular. However, this prescription does not, in general, yield representations of the Temperley-Lieb algebras and the Virasoro Kac modules have remained largely unidentified. Here, we introduce the appropriate algebraic framework for the lattice analysis as a quotient of the one-boundary Temperley-Lieb algebra. The corresponding standard modules are introduced and examined using invariant bilinear forms and their Gram determinants. The structures of the Virasoro Kac modules are inferred from these results and are found to be given by finitely generated submodules of Feigin-Fuchs modules. Additional evidence for this identification is obtained by comparing the formalism of lattice fusion with the fusion rules of the Virasoro Kac modules. These are obtained, at the character level, in complete generality by applying a Verlinde-like formula and, at the module level, in many explicit examples by applying the Nahm-Gaberdiel-Kausch fusion algorithm.

On the reality of spectra of $\boldsymbol{U_q(sl_2)}$-invariant XXZ Hamiltonians

A new inner product is constructed on each standard module over the Temperley-Lieb algebra $\mathsf{TL}_n(β)$ for $β\in \mathbb R$ and $n \ge 2$. On these modules, the Hamiltonian $h = -\sum_i e_i$ is shown to be self-adjoint with respect to this inner product. This implies that its action on these modules is diagonalisable with real eigenvalues. A representation theoretic argument shows that the reality of spectra of the Hamiltonian extends to all other Temperley-Lieb representations. In particular, this result applies to the celebrated $U_q(sl_2)$-invariant XXZ Hamiltonian, for all $q+q^{-1}\in \mathbb R$.

Fusion hierarchies, T-systems and Y-systems of logarithmic minimal models

A Temperley-Lieb (TL) loop model is a Yang-Baxter integrable lattice model with nonlocal degrees of freedom. On a strip of width N, the evolution operator is the double-row transfer tangle D(u), an element of the TL algebra TL_N(beta) with loop fugacity beta=2cos(lambda). Similarly on a cylinder, the single-row transfer tangle T(u) is an element of the enlarged periodic TL algebra. The logarithmic minimal models LM(p,p') comprise a subfamily of the TL loop models for which the crossing parameter lambda=(p'-p)pi/p' is parameterised by coprime integers 0<p<p'. For these special values, additional symmetries allow for particular degeneracies in the spectra that account for the logarithmic nature of these theories. For critical dense polymers LM(1,2), D(u) and T(u) are known to satisfy inversion identities that allow us to obtain exact eigenvalues in any representation and for all system sizes N. The generalisation for p'>2 takes the form of functional relations for D(u) and T(u) of polynomial degree p'. These derive from fusion hierarchies of commuting transfer tangles D^{m,n}(u) and T^{m,n}(u) where D(u)=D^{1,1}(u) and T(u)=T^{1,1}(u). The fused transfer tangles are constructed from (m,n)-fused face operators involving Wenzl-Jones projectors P_k on k=m or k=n nodes. Some projectors P_k are singular for k>p'-1, but we argue that D^{m,n}(u) and T^{m,n}(u) are well defined for all m,n. For generic lambda, we derive the fusion hierarchies and the associated T- and Y-systems. For the logarithmic theories, the closure of the fusion hierarchies at n=p' translates into functional relations of polynomial degree p' for D^{m,1}(u) and T^{m,1}(u). We also derive the closure of the Y-systems for the logarithmic theories. The T- and Y-systems are the key to exact integrability and we observe that the underlying structure of these functional equations relate to Dynkin diagrams of affine Lie algebras.

A homomorphism between link and XXZ modules over the periodic Temperley-Lieb algebra

We study finite loop models on a lattice wrapped around a cylinder. A section of the cylinder has N sites. We use a family of link modules over the periodic Temperley-Lieb algebra EPTL_N(β, α) introduced by Martin and Saleur, and Graham and Lehrer. These are labeled by the numbers of sites N and of defects d, and extend the standard modules of the original Temperley-Lieb algebra. Beside the defining parameters β=u^2+u^{-2} with u=e^{iλ/2} (weight of contractible loops) and α(weight of non-contractible loops), this family also depends on a twist parameter v that keeps track of how the defects wind around the cylinder. The transfer matrix T_N(λ, ν) depends on the anisotropy νand the spectral parameter λthat fixes the model. (The thermodynamic limit of T_N is believed to describe a conformal field theory of central charge c=1-6λ^2/(π(λ-π)).) The family of periodic XXZ Hamiltonians is extended to depend on this new parameter v and the relationship between this family and the loop models is established. The Gram determinant for the natural bilinear form on these link modules is shown to factorize in terms of an intertwiner i_N^d between these link representations and the eigenspaces of S^z of the XXZ models. This map is shown to be an isomorphism for generic values of u and v and the critical curves in the plane of these parameters for which i_N^d fails to be an isomorphism are given.

Jordan cells of periodic loop models

Jordan cells in transfer matrices of finite lattice models are a signature of the logarithmic character of the conformal field theories that appear in their thermodynamical limit. The transfer matrix of periodic loop models, T_N, is an element of the periodic Temperley-Lieb algebra EPTL_N(β, α), where N is the number of sites on a section of the cylinder, and β= -(q+1/q) = 2 \cos λand αthe weights of contractible and non-contractible loops. The thermodynamic limit of T_N is believed to describe a conformal field theory of central charge c=1-6λ^2/(π(λ-π)). The abstract element T_N acts naturally on (a sum of) spaces V_N^d, similar to those upon which the standard modules of the (classical) Temperley-Lieb algebra act. These spaces known as sectors are labeled by the numbers of defects d and depend on a {\em twist parameter} v that keeps track of the winding of defects around the cylinder. Criteria are given for non-trivial Jordan cells of T_N both between sectors with distinct defect numbers and within a given sector.

Modular invariant partition function of critical dense polymers

A lattice model of critical dense polymers is solved exactly for arbitrary system size on the torus. More generally, an infinite family of lattice loop models is studied on the torus and related to the corresponding Fortuin-Kasteleyn random cluster models. Starting with a cylinder, the commuting periodic single-row transfer matrices are built from the periodic Temperley-Lieb algebra extended by the shift operators Omega and Omega^{-1}. In this enlarged algebra, the non-contractible loop fugacity is alpha and the contractible loop fugacity is beta. The torus is formed by gluing the top and bottom of the cylinder. This gives rise to a variety of non-contractible loops winding around the torus. Because of their nonlocal nature, the standard matrix trace does not produce the proper geometric torus. Instead, we introduce a modified matrix trace for this purpose. This is achieved by using a representation of the enlarged periodic Temperley-Lieb algebra with a parameter v that keeps track of the winding of defects on the cylinder. The transfer matrix representatives and their eigenvalues thus depend on v. The modified trace is constructed as a linear functional on planar connectivity diagrams in terms of matrix traces Tr_d (with a fixed number of defects d) and Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind. For critical dense polymers, where beta=0, the transfer matrix eigenvalues are obtained by solving a functional equation in the form of an inversion identity. The solution depends on d and is subject to selection rules which we prove. Simplifications occur if all non-contractible loop fugacities are set to alpha=2 in which case the traces are evaluated at v=1. In the continuum scaling limit, the corresponding conformal torus partition function obtained from finite-size corrections agrees with the known modular invariant partition function of symplectic fermions.

A Proof of Selection Rules for Critical Dense Polymers

Among the lattice loop models defined by Pearce, Rasmussen and Zuber (2006), the model corresponding to critical dense polymers ($β= 0$) is the only one for which an inversion relation for the transfer matrix $D_N(u)$ was found by Pearce and Rasmussen (2007). From this result, they identified the set of possible eigenvalues for $D_N(u)$ and gave a conjecture for the degeneracies of its relevant eigenvalues in the link representation, in the sector with $d$ defects. In this paper, we set out to prove this conjecture, using the homomorphism of the $TL_N (β)$ algebra between the loop model link representation and that of the XXZ model for $β= -(q+q^{-1})$.

The Jordan Structure of Two Dimensional Loop Models

We show how to use the link representation of the transfer matrix $D_N$ of loop models on the lattice to calculate partition functions, at criticality, of the Fortuin-Kasteleyn model with various boundary conditions and parameter $β= 2 \cos(π(1-a/b)), a,b\in \mathbb N$ and, more specifically, partition functions of the corresponding $Q$-Potts spin models, with $Q=β^2$. The braid limit of $D_N$ is shown to be a central element $F_N(β)$ of the Temperley-Lieb algebra $TL_N(β)$, its eigenvalues are determined and, for generic $β$, a basis of its eigenvectors is constructed using the Wenzl-Jones projector. To any element of this basis is associated a number of defects $d$, $0\le d\le N$, and the basis vectors with the same $d$ span a sector. Because components of these eigenvectors are singular when $b \in \mathbb{Z}^*$ and $a \in 2 \mathbb{Z} + 1$, the link representations of $F_N$ and $D_N$ are shown to have Jordan blocks between sectors $d$ and $d'$ when $d-d' < 2b$ and $(d+d')/2 \equiv b-1 \ \textrm{mod} \ 2b$ ($d>d'$). When $a$ and $b$ do not satisfy the previous constraint, $D_N$ is diagonalizable.

Critical exponents for the homology of Fortuin-Kasteleyn clusters on a torus

A Fortuin-Kasteleyn cluster on a torus is said to be of type $\{a,b\}, a,b\in\mathbb Z$, if it possible to draw a curve belonging to the cluster that winds $a$ times around the first cycle of the torus as it winds $-b$ times around the second. Even though the $Q$-Potts models make sense only for $Q$ integers, they can be included into a family of models parametrized by $β=\sqrt{Q}$ for which the Fortuin-Kasteleyn clusters can be defined for any real $β\in (0,2]$. For this family, we study the probability $π({\{a,b\}})$ of a given type of clusters as a function of the torus modular parameter $τ=τ_r+iτ_i$. We compute the asymptotic behavior of some of these probabilities as the torus becomes infinitely thin. For example, the behavior of $π(\{1,0\})$ is studied along the line $τ_r=0$ and $τ_i\to\infty$. Exponents describing these behaviors are defined and related to weights $h_{r,s}$ of the extended Kac table for $r,s$ integers, but also half-integers. Numerical simulations are also presented. Possible relationship with recent works and conformal loop ensembles is discussed.
