Coexistence of the Kondo effect and spin glass physics in Fe-doped NbS2_2

We report the coexistence of the Kondo effect and spin glass behavior in Fe-doped NbS2_2 single crystals. The Fex_xNbS2_2 shows the resistance minimum and negative magnetoresistance due to the Kondo effect, and exhibits no superconducting behavior at low temperatures. The resistance curve follows a numerical renormalization-group theory using the Kondo temperature TK=12.3T_K =12.3~K for x=0.01x=0.01 as evidence of Kondo effect. Scanning tunneling microscope/spectroscopy (STM/STS) revealed the presence of Fe atoms near sulfur atoms and asymmetric spectra. The magnetic susceptibility exhibits a feature of spin glass. The static critical exponents determined by the universal scaling of the nonlinear part of the susceptibility suggest a three-dimensional Heisenberg spin glass. The doped-Fe atoms in the intra- and inter-layers revealed by the X-ray result can realize the coexistence of the Kondo effect and spin glass.

Quasi-One-Dimensional Spin Dynamics in dd-Electron Heavy-Fermion Metal Y1−x_{1-x}Scx_xMn2_2

Slow spin fluctuations (ν<1012ν< 10^{12} s−1^-1) observed by the muon spin relaxation technique in Y1−x_{1-x}Scx_xMn2_2 exhibits a power law dependence on temperature (ν∝Tαν\propto T^α), where the power converges asymptotically to unity (α→1α\rightarrow 1) as the system moves away from spin-glass instability with increasing Sc content xx. This linear TT dependence, which is common to that observed in LiV2_2O4_4, is in line with the prediction of the "intersecting Hubbard chains" model for a metallic pyrochlore lattice, suggesting that the geometrical constraints to t2g bands specific to the pyrochlore structure serve as a basis of the dd-electron heavy-fermion state.

Existence of a phase transition under finite magnetic field in the long-range RKKY Ising spin glass Dyx_{x}Y1−x_{1-x}Ru2_{2}Si2_{2}

A phase transition of a model compound of the long-range Ising spin glass (SG) Dyx_{x}Y1−x_{1-x}Ru2_{2}Si2_{2}, where spins interact via the RKKY interaction, has been investigated. The static and the dynamic scaling analyses reveal that the SG phase transition in the model magnet belongs to the mean-field universality class. Moreover, the characteristic relaxation time in finite magnetic fields exhibits a critical divergent behavior as well as in zero field, indicating a stability of the SG phase in finite fields. The presence of the SG phase transition in field in the model magnet strongly syggests that the replica symmetry is broken in the long-range Ising SG.
