Breaking the Limits of Open-Weight CLIP: An Optimization Framework for Self-supervised Fine-tuning of CLIP

CLIP has become a cornerstone of multimodal representation learning, yet improving its performance typically requires a prohibitively costly process of training from scratch on billions of samples. We ask a different question: Can we improve the performance of open-weight CLIP models across various downstream tasks using only existing self-supervised datasets? Unlike supervised fine-tuning, which adapts a pretrained model to a single downstream task, our setting seeks to improve general performance across various tasks. However, as both our experiments and prior studies reveal, simply applying standard training protocols starting from an open-weight CLIP model often fails, leading to performance degradation. In this paper, we introduce TuneCLIP, a self-supervised fine-tuning framework that overcomes the performance degradation. TuneCLIP has two key components: (1) a warm-up stage of recovering optimization statistics to reduce cold-start bias, inspired by theoretical analysis, and (2) a fine-tuning stage of optimizing a new contrastive loss to mitigate the penalization on false negative pairs. Our extensive experiments show that TuneCLIP consistently improves performance across model architectures and scales. Notably, it elevates leading open-weight models like SigLIP (ViT-B/16), achieving gains of up to +2.5% on ImageNet and related out-of-distribution benchmarks, and +1.2% on the highly competitive DataComp benchmark, setting a new strong baseline for efficient post-pretraining adaptation.

GeoHand: Unlocking Prior Geometry Knowledge for Monocular 3D Hand Reconstruction

Monocular 3D hand reconstruction is intrinsically a geometric problem, yet RGB appearance features alone often struggle to resolve severe ambiguities caused by self-occlusions and hand-object interactions. While introducing depth can explicitly provide spatial cues, raw sensor-captured depth maps are extensively noisy and incomplete, limiting their usefulness for fine-grained hand reconstruction. To bridge this gap, we propose GeoHand, a novel framework that unlocks high-quality geometric priors from a frozen foundational monocular geometry estimator (MoGe2). Recognizing that these priors are oriented toward general scenes, we introduce a map-level GeoAdapter to recalibrate the spatial features, specifically adapting them for detailed hand reconstruction. Furthermore, to systematically integrate these adapted priors without overwhelming intrinsic RGB appearance cues, we employ a gated cross-modal token fusion strategy. Finally, to secure precise local articulation, we design a Keypoint-Queried Iterative Refiner (KQIR) that uses projected joint locations to query geometry-aware image features for spatial correction. By combining global geometric disambiguation with local refinement in a unified pipeline, GeoHand achieves state-of-the-art performance on FreiHAND, DexYCB, and HO3Dv3, especially under severe occlusions and hand-object interactions.

SceneParser: Hierarchical Scene Parsing for Visual Semantics Understanding

General scene perception has progressed from object recognition toward open-vocabulary grounding, part localization, and affordance prediction. Yet these capabilities are often realized as isolated predictions that localize objects, parts, or interaction points without capturing the structured dependencies needed for interaction-oriented scene understanding. To address this gap, we introduce Hierarchical Scene Parsing, an interaction-oriented parsing task that represents physical scenes as explicit scene -> object -> part -> affordance hierarchies with cross-level bindings. We instantiate this task with SceneParser, a VLM-based parser trained for unified hierarchical generation with structural-completion pseudo labels and curriculum learning. To support training and evaluation, we construct SceneParser-Bench, a large-scale benchmark built with a scalable hierarchical data engine, containing 110K training images, a 5K validation split, 777K objects, 1.14M parts, 1.74M affordance annotations, and 1.74M valid object-part-affordance chain instances. We further introduce Level-1 to Level-3 conditional metrics and ParseRate to evaluate localization, cross-level binding, and hierarchical completeness. Experiments show that existing MLLMs and perception-stitching pipelines struggle with hierarchical parsing on our SceneParser-Bench, while SceneParser achieves stronger structure-aware performance. Besides, ablations, evaluations on COCO and AGD20K, and a downstream planning probe demonstrate that our SceneParser is compatible with conventional tasks and provides an actionable representation for visual understanding.

VLingNav: Embodied Navigation with Adaptive Reasoning and Visual-Assisted Linguistic Memory

VLA models have shown promising potential in embodied navigation by unifying perception and planning while inheriting the strong generalization abilities of large VLMs. However, most existing VLA models rely on reactive mappings directly from observations to actions, lacking the explicit reasoning capabilities and persistent memory required for complex, long-horizon navigation tasks. To address these challenges, we propose VLingNav, a VLA model for embodied navigation grounded in linguistic-driven cognition. First, inspired by the dual-process theory of human cognition, we introduce an adaptive chain-of-thought mechanism, which dynamically triggers explicit reasoning only when necessary, enabling the agent to fluidly switch between fast, intuitive execution and slow, deliberate planning. Second, to handle long-horizon spatial dependencies, we develop a visual-assisted linguistic memory module that constructs a persistent, cross-modal semantic memory, enabling the agent to recall past observations to prevent repetitive exploration and infer movement trends for dynamic environments. For the training recipe, we construct Nav-AdaCoT-2.9M, the largest embodied navigation dataset with reasoning annotations to date, enriched with adaptive CoT annotations that induce a reasoning paradigm capable of adjusting both when to think and what to think about. Moreover, we incorporate an online expert-guided reinforcement learning stage, enabling the model to surpass pure imitation learning and to acquire more robust, self-explored navigation behaviors. Extensive experiments demonstrate that VLingNav achieves state-of-the-art performance across a wide range of embodied navigation benchmarks. Notably, VLingNav transfers to real-world robotic platforms in a zero-shot manner, executing various navigation tasks and demonstrating strong cross-domain and cross-task generalization.

VoxAfford: Multi-Scale Voxel-Token Fusion for Open-Vocabulary 3D Affordance Detection

Open-vocabulary 3D affordance detection requires localizing interaction regions on point clouds given novel affordance descriptions. Recent methods extend multimodal large language models (MLLMs) with special output tokens that are decoded into segmentation masks. However, these tokens are produced through autoregressive generation, which models sequential dependencies rather than spatial neighborhood relations, leaving them semantically rich but spatially impoverished for 3D localization. We propose Voxel-enhanced Affordance detection (VoxAfford), which bypasses this bottleneck by injecting multi-scale geometric features from a frozen pre-trained 3D VQVAE encoder into the output tokens after generation. Each output token uses its affordance semantics as a query to retrieve relevant geometric patterns from its paired voxel scale via cross-attention, with a learned compatibility gate controlling the injection strength. The enhanced tokens are then aggregated into a spatially-aware affordance prompt through semantic-conditioned attention and propagated alongside per-point features to generate the final mask. Experiments on open-vocabulary affordance detection tasks show that VoxAfford achieves state-of-the-art performance with approximately an 8% improvement in mIoU, and real robot experiments confirm zero-shot transfer to novel objects.

World-Ego Modeling for Long-Horizon Evolution in Hybrid Embodied Tasks

World models are widely explored in embodied intelligence, yet they typically predict distinct evolutions of the world and the ego within a single stream, where the world captures persistent instruction-agnostic scene regularities and the ego captures robot-centric instruction-conditioned dynamics. This world-ego entanglement leads to a degradation in long-horizon embodied scenarios, particularly in hybrid tasks with interleaved navigation and manipulation behaviors. In this paper, we introduce \emph{World-Ego Modeling}, a new conceptual paradigm that decomposes future evolution into world and ego components. We define the world-ego boundary from three perspectives, i.e., motion-, semantic-, and intention-based views, and analyze three disentanglement strategies with post-, pre-, and full disentanglement. Further, we instantiate this paradigm as the World-Ego Model (WEM), a unified embodied world model that couples an implicit separate world-ego planner with a cascade-parallel mixture-of-experts (CP-MoE) diffusion generator. To enable rigorous evaluation, we further construct HTEWorld, the first benchmark for long-horizon world modeling with hybrid navigation-manipulation tasks, providing 125K video clips (over 4.5M frames) with fine-grained action annotations and 300 multi-turn evaluation trajectories (over 2K instructions). Extensive experiments show that WEM achieves state-of-the-art performance on HTEWorld while remaining competitive on existing manipulation-only benchmarks.

Self-Supervised Monocular Depth Estimation: Solving the Edge-Fattening Problem

Self-supervised monocular depth estimation (MDE) models universally suffer from the notorious edge-fattening issue. Triplet loss, as a widespread metric learning strategy, has largely succeeded in many computer vision applications. In this paper, we redesign the patch-based triplet loss in MDE to alleviate the ubiquitous edge-fattening issue. We show two drawbacks of the raw triplet loss in MDE and demonstrate our problem-driven redesigns. First, we present a min. operator based strategy applied to all negative samples, to prevent well-performing negatives sheltering the error of edge-fattening negatives. Second, we split the anchor-positive distance and anchor-negative distance from within the original triplet, which directly optimizes the positives without any mutual effect with the negatives. Extensive experiments show the combination of these two small redesigns can achieve unprecedented results: Our powerful and versatile triplet loss not only makes our model outperform all previous SoTA by a large margin, but also provides substantial performance boosts to a large number of existing models, while introducing no extra inference computation at all.

A Boundary Based Out-of-Distribution Classifier for Generalized Zero-Shot Learning

Generalized Zero-Shot Learning (GZSL) is a challenging topic that has promising prospects in many realistic scenarios. Using a gating mechanism that discriminates the unseen samples from the seen samples can decompose the GZSL problem to a conventional Zero-Shot Learning (ZSL) problem and a supervised classification problem. However, training the gate is usually challenging due to the lack of data in the unseen domain. To resolve this problem, in this paper, we propose a boundary based Out-of-Distribution (OOD) classifier which classifies the unseen and seen domains by only using seen samples for training. First, we learn a shared latent space on a unit hyper-sphere where the latent distributions of visual features and semantic attributes are aligned class-wisely. Then we find the boundary and the center of the manifold for each class. By leveraging the class centers and boundaries, the unseen samples can be separated from the seen samples. After that, we use two experts to classify the seen and unseen samples separately. We extensively validate our approach on five popular benchmark datasets including AWA1, AWA2, CUB, FLO and SUN. The experimental results demonstrate the advantages of our approach over state-of-the-art methods.

AutoTS: Automatic Time Series Forecasting Model Design Based on Two-Stage Pruning

Automatic Time Series Forecasting (TSF) model design which aims to help users to efficiently design suitable forecasting model for the given time series data scenarios, is a novel research topic to be urgently solved. In this paper, we propose AutoTS algorithm trying to utilize the existing design skills and design efficient search methods to effectively solve this problem. In AutoTS, we extract effective design experience from the existing TSF works. We allow the effective combination of design experience from different sources, so as to create an effective search space containing a variety of TSF models to support different TSF tasks. Considering the huge search space, in AutoTS, we propose a two-stage pruning strategy to reduce the search difficulty and improve the search efficiency. In addition, in AutoTS, we introduce the knowledge graph to reveal associations between module options. We make full use of these relational information to learn higher-level features of each module option, so as to further improve the search quality. Extensive experimental results show that AutoTS is well-suited for the TSF area. It is more efficient than the existing neural architecture search algorithms, and can quickly design powerful TSF model better than the manually designed ones.

Closed-form Error Propagation on the SE_n(3) Group for Invariant Extended Kalman Filtering with Applications to VINS

Pose estimation is important for robotic perception, path planning, etc. Robot poses can be modeled on matrix Lie groups and are usually estimated via filter-based methods. In this paper, we establish the closed-form formula for the error propagation for the Invariant extended Kalman filter (IEKF) in the presence of random noises and apply it to vision-aided inertial navigation. We evaluate our algorithm via numerical simulations and experiments on the OPENVINS platform. Both simulations and the experiments performed on the public EuRoC MAV datasets demonstrate that our algorithm outperforms some state-of-art filter-based methods such as the quaternion-based EKF, first estimates Jacobian EKF, etc.

Hallucinated Neural Radiance Fields in the Wild

Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) has recently gained popularity for its impressive novel view synthesis ability. This paper studies the problem of hallucinated NeRF: i.e., recovering a realistic NeRF at a different time of day from a group of tourism images. Existing solutions adopt NeRF with a controllable appearance embedding to render novel views under various conditions, but they cannot render view-consistent images with an unseen appearance. To solve this problem, we present an end-to-end framework for constructing a hallucinated NeRF, dubbed as Ha-NeRF. Specifically, we propose an appearance hallucination module to handle time-varying appearances and transfer them to novel views. Considering the complex occlusions of tourism images, we introduce an anti-occlusion module to decompose the static subjects for visibility accurately. Experimental results on synthetic data and real tourism photo collections demonstrate that our method can hallucinate the desired appearances and render occlusion-free images from different views. MobRecon: Mobile-Friendly Hand Mesh Reconstruction from Monocular Image

In this work, we propose a framework for single-view hand mesh reconstruction, which can simultaneously achieve high reconstruction accuracy, fast inference speed, and temporal coherence. Specifically, for 2D encoding, we propose lightweight yet effective stacked structures. Regarding 3D decoding, we provide an efficient graph operator, namely depth-separable spiral convolution. Moreover, we present a novel feature lifting module for bridging the gap between 2D and 3D representations. This module begins with a map-based position regression (MapReg) block to integrate the merits of both heatmap encoding and position regression paradigms for improved 2D accuracy and temporal coherence. Furthermore, MapReg is followed by pose pooling and pose-to-vertex lifting approaches, which transform 2D pose encodings to semantic features of 3D vertices. Overall, our hand reconstruction framework, called MobRecon, comprises affordable computational costs and miniature model size, which reaches a high inference speed of 83FPS on Apple A14 CPU. Extensive experiments on popular datasets such as FreiHAND, RHD, and HO3Dv2 demonstrate that our MobRecon achieves superior performance on reconstruction accuracy and temporal coherence. TIE: Topological Information Enhanced Structural Reading Comprehension on Web Pages

Recently, the structural reading comprehension (SRC) task on web pages has attracted increasing research interests. Although previous SRC work has leveraged extra information such as HTML tags or XPaths, the informative topology of web pages is not effectively exploited. In this work, we propose a Topological Information Enhanced model (TIE), which transforms the token-level task into a tag-level task by introducing a two-stage process (i.e. node locating and answer refining). Based on that, TIE integrates Graph Attention Network (GAT) and Pre-trained Language Model (PLM) to leverage the topological information of both logical structures and spatial structures. Experimental results demonstrate that our model outperforms strong baselines and achieves state-of-the-art performances on the web-based SRC benchmark WebSRC at the time of writing. Camera-Space Hand Mesh Recovery via Semantic Aggregation and Adaptive 2D-1D Registration

Recent years have witnessed significant progress in 3D hand mesh recovery. Nevertheless, because of the intrinsic 2D-to-3D ambiguity, recovering camera-space 3D information from a single RGB image remains challenging. To tackle this problem, we divide camera-space mesh recovery into two sub-tasks, i.e., root-relative mesh recovery and root recovery. First, joint landmarks and silhouette are extracted from a single input image to provide 2D cues for the 3D tasks. In the root-relative mesh recovery task, we exploit semantic relations among joints to generate a 3D mesh from the extracted 2D cues. Such generated 3D mesh coordinates are expressed relative to a root position, i.e., wrist of the hand. In the root recovery task, the root position is registered to the camera space by aligning the generated 3D mesh back to 2D cues, thereby completing cameraspace 3D mesh recovery. Our pipeline is novel in that (1) it explicitly makes use of known semantic relations among joints and (2) it exploits 1D projections of the silhouette and mesh to achieve robust registration. Extensive experiments on popular datasets such as FreiHAND, RHD, and Human3.6M demonstrate that our approach achieves stateof-the-art performance on both root-relative mesh recovery and root recovery. Joint Anchor-Feature Refinement for Real-Time Accurate Object Detection in Images and Videos

Object detection has been vigorously investigated for years but fast accurate detection for real-world scenes remains a very challenging problem. Overcoming drawbacks of single-stage detectors, we take aim at precisely detecting objects for static and temporal scenes in real time. Firstly, as a dual refinement mechanism, a novel anchor-offset detection is designed, which includes an anchor refinement, a feature location refinement, and a deformable detection head. This new detection mode is able to simultaneously perform two-step regression and capture accurate object features. Based on the anchor-offset detection, a dual refinement network (DRNet) is developed for high-performance static detection, where a multi-deformable head is further designed to leverage contextual information for describing objects. As for temporal detection in videos, temporal refinement networks (TRNet) and temporal dual refinement networks (TDRNet) are developed by propagating the refinement information across time. We also propose a soft refinement strategy to temporally match object motion with the previous refinement. Our proposed methods are evaluated on PASCAL VOC, COCO, and ImageNet VID datasets. Extensive comparisons on static and temporal detection verify the superiority of DRNet, TRNet, and TDRNet. Consequently, our developed approaches run in a fairly fast speed, and in the meantime achieve a significantly enhanced detection accuracy, i.e., 84.4% mAP on VOC 2007, 83.6% mAP on VOC 2012, 69.4% mAP on VID 2017, and 42.4% AP on COCO. Ultimately, producing encouraging results, our methods are applied to online underwater object detection and grasping with an autonomous system. Rethinking Temporal Object Detection from Robotic Perspectives

Video object detection (VID) has been vigorously studied for years but almost all literature adopts a static accuracy-based evaluation, i.e., average precision (AP). From a robotic perspective, the importance of recall continuity and localization stability is equal to that of accuracy, but the AP is insufficient to reflect detectors' performance across time. In this paper, non-reference assessments are proposed for continuity and stability based on object tracklets. These temporal evaluations can serve as supplements to static AP. Further, we develop an online tracklet refinement for improving detectors' temporal performance through short tracklet suppression, fragment filling, and temporal location fusion. In addition, we propose a small-overlap suppression to extend VID methods to single object tracking (SOT) task so that a flexible SOT-by-detection framework is then formed. Extensive experiments are conducted on ImageNet VID dataset and real-world robotic tasks, where the superiority of our proposed approaches are validated and verified. Reveal of Domain Effect: How Visual Restoration Contributes to Object Detection in Aquatic Scenes

Underwater robotic perception usually requires visual restoration and object detection, both of which have been studied for many years. Meanwhile, data domain has a huge impact on modern data-driven leaning process. However, exactly indicating domain effect, the relation between restoration and detection remains unclear. In this paper, we generally investigate the relation of quality-diverse data domain to detection performance. In the meantime, we unveil how visual restoration contributes to object detection in real-world underwater scenes. According to our analysis, five key discoveries are reported: 1) Domain quality has an ignorable effect on within-domain convolutional representation and detection accuracy; 2) low-quality domain leads to higher generalization ability in cross-domain detection; 3) low-quality domain can hardly be well learned in a domain-mixed learning process; 4) degrading recall efficiency, restoration cannot improve within-domain detection accuracy; 5) visual restoration is beneficial to detection in the wild by reducing the domain shift between training data and real-world scenes. Finally, as an illustrative example, we successfully perform underwater object detection with an aquatic robot.

Temporally Identity-Aware SSD with Attentional LSTM

Temporal object detection has attracted significant attention, but most popular detection methods cannot leverage rich temporal information in videos. Very recently, many algorithms have been developed for video detection task, yet very few approaches can achieve \emph{real-time online} object detection in videos. In this paper, based on attention mechanism and convolutional long short-term memory (ConvLSTM), we propose a temporal single-shot detector (TSSD) for real-world detection. Distinct from previous methods, we take aim at temporally integrating pyramidal feature hierarchy using ConvLSTM, and design a novel structure including a low-level temporal unit as well as a high-level one (LH-TU) for multi-scale feature maps. Moreover, we develop a creative temporal analysis unit, namely, attentional ConvLSTM (AC-LSTM), in which a temporal attention mechanism is specially tailored for background suppression and scale suppression while a ConvLSTM integrates attention-aware features across time. An association loss and a multi-step training are designed for temporal coherence. Besides, an online tubelet analysis (OTA) is exploited for identification. Our framework is evaluated on ImageNet VID dataset and 2DMOT15 dataset. Extensive comparisons on the detection and tracking capability validate the superiority of the proposed approach. Consequently, the developed TSSD-OTA achieves a fast speed and an overall competitive performance in terms of detection and tracking. The Fairness of Leximin in Allocation of Indivisible Chores

The leximin solution -- which selects an allocation that maximizes the minimum utility, then the second minimum utility, and so forth -- is known to provide EFX (envy-free up to any good) fairness guarantee in some contexts when allocating indivisible goods. However, it remains unknown how fair the leximin solution is when used to allocate indivisible chores. In this paper, we demonstrate that the leximin solution can be modified to also provide compelling fairness guarantees for the allocation of indivisible chores. First, we generalize the definition of the leximin solution. Then, we show that the leximin solution finds a PROP1 (proportional up to one good) and PO (Pareto-optimal) allocation for 3 or 4 agents in the context of chores allocation with additive distinct valuations. Additionally, we prove that the leximin solution is EFX for combinations of goods and chores for agents with general but identical valuations.

Towards Real-Time Advancement of Underwater Visual Quality with GAN

Low visual quality has prevented underwater robotic vision from a wide range of applications. Although several algorithms have been developed, real-time and adaptive methods are deficient for real-world tasks. In this paper, we address this difficulty based on generative adversarial networks (GAN), and propose a GAN-based restoration scheme (GAN-RS). In particular, we develop a multi-branch discriminator including an adversarial branch and a critic branch for the purpose of simultaneously preserving image content and removing underwater noise. In addition to adversarial learning, a novel dark channel prior loss also promotes the generator to produce realistic vision. More specifically, an underwater index is investigated to describe underwater properties, and a loss function based on the underwater index is designed to train the critic branch for underwater noise suppression. Through extensive comparisons on visual quality and feature restoration, we confirm the superiority of the proposed approach. Consequently, the GAN-RS can adaptively improve underwater visual quality in real time and induce an overall superior restoration performance. Finally, a real-world experiment is conducted on the seabed for grasping marine products, and the results are quite promising.
