Multimodal sampling via Schrödinger-Föllmer samplers with temperatures

Generating samples from complex and high-dimensional distributions is ubiquitous in various scientific fields of statistical physics, Bayesian inference, scientific computing and machine learning. Very recently, Huang et al. (IEEE Trans. Inform. Theory, 2025) proposed new Schrödinger-Föllmer samplers (SFS), based on the Euler discretization of the Schrödinger-Föllmer diffusion evolving on the unit interval $[0, 1]$. There, a convergence rate of order $\mathcal{O}(\sqrt{h})$ in the $L^2$-Wasserstein distance was obtained for the Euler discretization with a uniform time step-size $h>0$. By incorporating a temperature parameter, different samplers are introduced in this paper, based on the Euler discretization of the Schrödinger-Föllmer process with temperatures. As revealed by numerical experiments, high temperatures are vital, particularly in sampling from multimodal distributions. Further, a novel approach of error analysis is developed for the time discretization and an enhanced convergence rate of order ${ \mathcal{O}(h)}$ is obtained in the $L^2$-Wasserstein distance, under certain smoothness conditions on the drift. This significantly improves the existing order-half convergence in the aforementioned paper. Unlike Langevin samplers, SFS is of gradient-free, works in a unit interval $[0, 1]$ and does not require any ergodicity. Numerical experiments confirm the convergence rate and show that, the SFS substantially outperforms vanilla Langevin samplers, particularly in sampling from multimodal distributions.

Securing High-Concurrency Ticket Sales: A Framework Based on Microservice

The railway ticketing system is one of the most important public service infrastructure. In peak periods such as holidays, it is often faced with the challenge of high concurrency scenarios because of a large number of users accessing at the same time. The traditional aggregation architecture can not meet the peak user requirements because of its insufficient fault tolerance and low ability. Therefore, the system needs to use microservice architecture for development, and add multiple security methods to ensure that the system can have good stability and data consistency under high concurrency scenarios, and can respond quickly to user requests. This paper introduces the use of B/S architecture and Spring Cloud to design and develop a railway ticket purchase system that can maintain stability and reliability under high concurrency scenarios, and formulate multiple security design methods for the system. This system integrates a range of functions, such as real-time train inquiries, dynamic seat updates, online seat selection, and ticket purchasing, effectively addressing common problems associated with offline ticket purchasing, such as long queues and delayed information. It enables a complete online process from inquiry and booking to payment and refunds. Furthermore, the "add passenger" function allows users to purchase tickets for others, extending the convenience of online ticketing to people with limited internet access. The system design prioritizes security and stability, while also focusing on high performance, and achieves these goals through a carefully designed architecture and the integration of multiple middleware components. After the completion of the system development, the core interface of the system is tested, and then the results are analyzed. The test data proves that the system has good ability and stability under high concurrency.

A minimum semi-degree sufficient condition for one-to-many disjoint path covers in semicomplete digraphs

Let $D$ be a digraph. We define the minimum semi-degree of $D$ as $δ^{0}(D) := \min \{δ^{+}(D), δ^{-}(D)\}$. Let $k$ be a positive integer, and let $S = \{s\}$ and $T = \{t_{1}, \dots ,t_{k}\}$ be any two disjoint subsets of $V(D)$. A set of $k$ internally disjoint paths joining source set $S$ and sink set $T$ that cover all vertices $D$ are called a one-to-many $k$-disjoint directed path cover ($k$-DDPC for short) of $D$. A digraph $D$ is semicomplete if for every pair $x,y$ of vertices of it, there is at least one arc between $x$ and $y$. In this paper, we prove that every semicomplete digraph $D$ of sufficiently large order $n$ with $δ^{0}(D) \geq \lceil (n+k-1)/2\rceil$ has a one-to-many $k$-DDPC joining any disjoint source set $S$ and sink set $T$, where $S = \{s\}, T = \{t_{1}, \dots, t_{k}\}$.

Nuclear mass table in deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum: I. even-even nuclei

Ground-state properties of even-even nuclei with $8\le Z\le120$ from the proton drip line to the neutron drip line have been investigated using the deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum (DRHBc) with the density functional PC-PK1. With the effects of deformation and continuum included simultaneously, 2583 even-even nuclei are predicted to be bound. The calculated binding energies, two-nucleon separation energies, root-mean-square (rms) radii of neutron, proton, matter, and charge distributions, quadrupole deformations, and neutron and proton Fermi surfaces are tabulated and compared with available experimental data. The rms deviation from the 637 mass data is 1.518 MeV, providing one of the best microscopic descriptions for nuclear masses. The drip lines obtained from DRHBc calculations are compared with other calculations, including the spherical relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) and triaxial relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (TRHB) calculations with PC-PK1. The deformation and continuum effects on the limits of the nuclear landscape are discussed. Possible peninsulas consisting of bound nuclei beyond the two-neutron drip line are predicted. The systematics of the two-nucleon separation energies, two-nucleon gaps, rms radii, quadrupole deformations, potential energy curves, neutron densities, neutron mean-field potentials, and pairing energies in the DRHBc calculations are also discussed. In addition, the $α$ decay energies extracted are in good agreement with available data.

Approximation algorithms for general cluster routing problem

Graph routing problems have been investigated extensively in operations research, computer science and engineering due to their ubiquity and vast applications. In this paper, we study constant approximation algorithms for some variations of the general cluster routing problem. In this problem, we are given an edge-weighted complete undirected graph $G=(V,E,c),$ whose vertex set is partitioned into clusters $C_{1},\dots ,C_{k}.$ We are also given a subset $V'$ of $V$ and a subset $E'$ of $E.$ The weight function $c$ satisfies the triangle inequality. The goal is to find a minimum cost walk $T$ that visits each vertex in $V'$ only once, traverses every edge in $E'$ at least once and for every $i\in [k]$ all vertices of $C_i$ are traversed consecutively.

Electrical probing of COVID-19 spike protein receptor binding domain via a graphene field-effect transistor

Here, in an effort towards facile and fast screening/diagnosis of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), we combined the unprecedently sensitive graphene field-effect transistor (Gr-FET) with highly selective antibody-antigen interaction to develop a coronavirus immunosensor. The Gr-FET immunosensors can rapidly identify (about 2 mins) and accurately capture the COVID-19 spike protein S1 (which contains a receptor binding domain, RBD) at a limit of detection down to 0.2 pM, in a real-time and label-free manner. Further results ensure that the Gr-FET immunosensors can be promisingly applied to screen for high-affinity antibodies (with binding constant up to 2*10^11 M^-1 against the RBD) at concentrations down to 0.1 pM. Thus, our developed electrical Gr-FET immunosensors provide an appealing alternative to address the early screening/diagnosis as well as the analysis and rational design of neutralizing-antibody locking methods of this ongoing public health crisis.

Direct Observationof DegenerateTwo-Photon Absorption and Its Saturation in WS2 and MoS2 Monolayer and Few-Layer Films

The optical nonlinearity of WS2, MoS2 monolayer and few-layer films was investigated using the Z-scan technique with femtosecond pulses from the visible to the near infrared. The dependence of nonlinear absorption of the WS2 and MoS2 films on layer number and excitation wavelength was studied systematically. WS2 with 1~3 layers exhibits a giant two-photon absorption (TPA) coefficient. Saturation of TPA for WS2 with 1~3 layers and MoS2 with 25~27 layers was observed. The giant nonlinearity of WS2 and MoS2 is attributed to two dimensional confinement, a giant exciton effect and the band edge resonance of TPA.

Giant Two-Photon Absorption in Monolayer MoS2

Strong two-photon absorption (TPA) in monolayer MoS2 is demonstrated in contrast to saturable absorption (SA) in multilayer MoS2 under the excitation of femtosecond laser pulses in the near infrared region. MoS2 in the forms of monolayer single crystal and multilayer triangular islands are grown on either quartz or SiO2/Si by employing the seeding method through chemistry vapor deposition. The nonlinear transmission measurements reveal that monolayer MoS2 possesses a giant nonsaturation TPA coefficient, larger than that of conventional semiconductors. As a result of TPA, two-photon pumped frequency up-converted luminescence is observed directly in the monolayer MoS2. For the multilayer MoS2, the SA response is demonstrated with the ratio of the excited-state absorption cross section to ground-state cross section of 0.18. In addition, the laser damage threshold of the monolayer MoS2 is 97 GW/cm2, larger than that of the multilayer MoS2 of 78 GW/cm2.

Optical Limiting and Theoretical Modelling of Layered Transition Metal Dichalcogenide Nanosheets

Nonlinear optical property of transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) nanosheet dispersions, including MoS2, MoSe2, WS2, and WSe2, was performed by using Z-scan technique with ns pulsed laser at 1064 nm and 532 nm. The results demonstrate that the TMDC dispersions exhibit significant optical limiting response at 1064 nm due to nonlinear scattering, in contrast to the combined effect of both saturable absorption and nonlinear scattering at 532 nm. Selenium compounds show better optical limiting performance than that of the sulfides in the near infrared. A liquid dispersion system based theoretical modelling is proposed to estimate the number density of the nanosheet dispersions, the relationship between incident laser fluence and the size of the laser generated micro-bubbles, and hence the Mie scattering-induced broadband optical limiting behavior in the TMDC dispersions.
