On the NLO QCD Corrections to Gluon-Initiated ZH Production

We compute the QCD corrections at next-to-leading order for the process $gg \rightarrow ZH$, including both the virtual two-loop terms and real-emission contributions. The two-loop box diagrams in the virtual corrections are approximated analytically over the complete phase space, combining the results of an expansion in the limit of small transverse momentum and an expansion in the regime of high energy. We obtain both inclusive and differential results for the cross section. We find that the NLO QCD corrections are of the same size as the LO contribution up to $ZH$ invariant masses close to 1 TeV, but they increase significantly when higher energies are considered, due to a class of real-emission diagrams in which the $Z$ boson is radiated from an open quark line. Finally, we estimate the uncertainty due to the renormalization scheme used for the top-quark mass both on the total and differential cross section.

Shifts in BCFW method for QED

We study the application of BCFW recursion relations to the QED processes $0\to e^- e^+ n γ$. Based on 6-point amplitudes (both MHVA and NMHVA) computed from Feynman diagrams in the Berends-Giele gauge, we conduct a comprehensive study on all different shifts. Then we propose a new shift (LLYZ shift) which can lead to the full amplitudes for these processes and can have some realistic computation advantages. We compare the number of terms and the independent amplitudes of this novel shift with a few typical shifts.

The physics case of a 3 TeV muon collider stage

In the path towards a muon collider with center of mass energy of 10 TeV or more, a stage at 3 TeV emerges as an appealing option. Reviewing the physics potential of such muon collider is the main purpose of this document. In order to outline the progression of the physics performances across the stages, a few sensitivity projections for higher energy are also presented. There are many opportunities for probing new physics at a 3 TeV muon collider. Some of them are in common with the extensively documented physics case of the CLIC 3 TeV energy stage, and include measuring the Higgs trilinear coupling and testing the possible composite nature of the Higgs boson and of the top quark at the 20 TeV scale. Other opportunities are unique of a 3 TeV muon collider, and stem from the fact that muons are collided rather than electrons. This is exemplified by studying the potential to explore the microscopic origin of the current $g$-2 and $B$-physics anomalies, which are both related with muons.

Highly Boosted Higgs Bosons and Unitarity in Vector-Boson Fusion at Future Hadron Colliders

We study the observability of new interactions which modify Higgs-pair production via vector-boson fusion processes at the LHC and at future proton-proton colliders. In an effective-Lagrangian approach, we explore in particular the effect of the operator $h^2 W_{μν}^a W^{a,μν}$, which describes the interaction of the Higgs boson with transverse vector-boson polarization modes. By tagging highly boosted Higgs bosons in the final state, we determine projected bounds for the coefficient of this operator at the LHC and at a future 27 TeV or 100 TeV collider. Taking into account unitarity constraints, we estimate the new-physics discovery potential of Higgs pair production in this channel.

Vector boson fusion at multi-TeV muon colliders

High-energy lepton colliders with a centre-of-mass energy in the multi-TeV range are currently considered among the most challenging and far-reaching future accelerator projects. Studies performed so far have mostly focused on the reach for new phenomena in lepton-antilepton annihilation channels. In this work we observe that starting from collider energies of a few TeV, electroweak (EW) vector boson fusion/scattering (VBF) at lepton colliders becomes the dominant production mode for all Standard Model processes relevant to studying the EW sector. In many cases we find that this also holds for new physics. We quantify the size and the growth of VBF cross sections with collider energy for a number of SM and new physics processes. By considering luminosity scenarios achievable at a muon collider, we conclude that such a machine would effectively be a "high-luminosity weak boson collider," and subsequently offer a wide range of opportunities to precisely measure EW and Higgs coupling as well as to discover new particles.

Multi-Higgs Production and Unitarity in Vector-Boson Fusion at Future Hadron Colliders

We study multi-Higgs final states in vector boson fusion (VBF) processes at the LHC and at future proton-proton colliders, focusing on the prospects for measurements at 27 TeV and at 100 TeV. We use an effective Lagrangian which includes higher-dimensional operators in the mass eigenstates which are relevant to VBF processes and relate this to specific parameterizations and models for new physics in the Higgs sector. We derive theoretical constraints on the parameter space from the unitarity of $2\to n$ scattering amplitudes and apply the results to $V V \to hh$ and $h h h$ processes, where $V=W,Z$. As a result, we present constraints on differential distributions as appropriate to the study of $V V \to hh$ and $h h h$ processes.

Efficient Numerical Evaluation of Feynman Integral

Feynman loop integrals are a key ingredient for the calculation of higher order radiation effects, and are responsible for reliable and accurate theoretical prediction. We improve the efficiency of numerical integration in sector decomposition by implementing a quasi-Monte Carlo method associated with the CUDA/GPU technique. For demonstration we present the results of several Feynman integrals up to two loops in both Euclidean and physical kinematic regions in comparison with those obtained from FIESTA3. It is shown that both planar and non-planar two-loop master integrals in the physical kinematic region can be evaluated in less than half a minute with $\mathcal{O}(10^{-3})$ accuracy, which makes the direct numerical approach viable for precise investigation of higher order effects in multi-loop processes, e.g. the next-to-leading order QCD effect in Higgs pair production via gluon fusion with a finite top quark mass.

Probing triple-Higgs productions via $4b2γ$ decay channel at a 100 TeV hadron collider

The quartic self-coupling of the Standard Model Higgs boson can only be measured by observing the triple-Higgs production process, but it is challenging for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) Run 2 or International Linear Collider (ILC) at a few TeV because of its extremely small production rate. In this paper, we present a detailed Monte Carlo simulation study of the triple-Higgs production through gluon fusion at a 100 TeV hadron collider and explore the feasibility of observing this production mode. We focus on the decay channel $HHH\rightarrow b\bar{b}b\bar{b}γγ$, investigating detector effects and optimizing the kinematic cuts to discriminate the signal from the backgrounds. Our study shows that, in order to observe the Standard Model triple-Higgs signal, the integrated luminosity of a 100 TeV hadron collider should be greater than $1.8\times 10^4$ ab$^{-1}$. We also explore the dependence of the cross section upon the trilinear ($λ_3$) and quartic ($λ_4$) self-couplings of the Higgs. We find that, through a search in the triple-Higgs production, the parameters $λ_3$ and $λ_4$ can be restricted to the ranges $[-1, 5]$ and $[-20, 30]$, respectively. We also examine how new physics can change the production rate of triple-Higgs events. For example, in the singlet extension of the Standard Model, we find that the triple-Higgs production rate can be increased by a factor of $\mathcal{O}(10)$.

Probe Higgs boson pair production via the $3 \ell 2 j$ + missing $E_T$ mode

We perform a detailed hadron-level study on the sensitivity of Higgs boson pair production via the $WW^{*}WW^{*}$ channel with the final state $3 \ell 2 j$ + missing $E_T$ at the LHC with the collision energy $\sqrt{S} = 14$ TeV and a future 100 TeV collider. To avoid the huge background from $pp \to Z W + \textrm{jets}$ processes, we confine to consider the four lepton patterns: $e^\pm e^\pm μ^\mp $ and $μ^\pm μ^\pm e^\mp$. We propose a partial reconstruction method to determine the most reliable combination. After that, we examine a few crucial observables which can discriminate efficiently signal and background events, especially we notice that the observable $m_{\rm T2}$ is very efficient. For the LHC 14 TeV collisions, with an accumulated 3000 fb$^{-1}$ dataset, we find that the sensitivity of this mode can reach up to 1.5 $σ$ for the Standard Model and the triple coupling of Higgs boson $λ_3$ in the simplest effective theory can be constrained into the range [-1, 8] at $95\%$ confidence level; at a 100 TeV collider with the integrated luminosity 3000 fb$^{-1}$, the sensitivity can reach up to 13 $σ$ for the Standard Model and we find that all values of $λ_3$ in the effective theory can be covered up to 3$σ$ even without optimising signals. To precisely measure the triple coupling of Higgs boson $λ_3=1$ of the Standard Model at a 100 TeV collider, by using the invariant mass of three leptons which is robust to against the contamination of underlying events and pileup effects and by performing a $χ^2$ analysis, we find that it can be determined into a range [0.8, 1.5] at $95\%$ confidence level.

Hadronic $b^\prime$ search at the LHC with top and W taggers

We study the sensitivity of a down type quark $b^{\prime}$ via process $pp\rightarrow b^{\prime}\bar{b^{\prime}} \rightarrow tW^-\bar{t}W^+$ using jet substructure methods at the LHC with the collision energy $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV. We consider the case that the $b^\prime$ is heavy (say from 800 GeV to 1500 GeV) and concentrate on the feasibility of the full hadronic mode. Both top tagger (the HEP top tagger) and W tagger (the CMS W-tagging) are used to reconstruct all objects in the final states. In order to suppress huge SM background events and take into account various cases with different number of boosted objects, we propose a comprehensive reconstruction procedure so as to extract the most crucial observables of the signal events. When $b^\prime$ mass is 1 TeV, it is found that with a 200 fb$^{-1}$ dataset, the LHC may be able to detect the $b^\prime$ with a significance up to $10$ or better. With a 3000 $fb^{-1}$ dataset, the LHC may be able to probe the $b^\prime$ with a mass around up to 2 TeV, only by using the hadronic mode.

Higgs Pair Production: Improved Description by Matrix Element Matching

Higgs pair production is crucial for measuring the Higgs boson self-coupling. The dominant channel at hadron colliders is gluon fusion via heavy-quark loops. We present the results of a fully exclusive simulation of gluon fusion Higgs pair production based on the matrix elements for hh + 0, 1 partons including full heavy-quark loop dependence, matched to a parton shower. We examine and validate this new description by comparing it with (a) Higgs Effective Theory predictions, (b) exact hh + 0-parton sample showered by pythia, and (c) exact hh+1-parton distributions, by looking at the most relevant kinematic distributions, such as PTh, PThh, Mhh spectra, and jet rate as well. We find that matched samples provide an state-of-the-art accurate exclusive description of the final state. The relevant LHE files for Higgs pair productions at the LHC can be accessed via http://hepfarm02.phy.pku.edu.cn/foswiki/CMS/HH, which can be used for relevant experimental analysis.
