NLO Electroweak Corrections to Multi-Boson Processes at a Muon Collider

We present results on NLO electroweak (EW) corrections to multiple massive boson production processes at a future muon collider. Inclusive cross sections with $\mathcal{O}(α)$ corrections for processes for up to four bosons in the final state as well as differential distributions for $HZ$ production are computed for $\sqrt{s}=3$, $10$ and $14$ TeV by using FKS subtraction in the NLO EW automated Monte-Carlo framework WHIZARD+RECOLA. Large logarithmic effects due to collinear ISR and EW virtual correction factors as well as the impacts of an energy cut on hard photons are discussed with an emphasis on the properties of Higgsstrahlung. The potential of a proposed muon collider for studying physics of the EW sector is underlined by the EW corrections significantly affecting observables for processes at high energies and boson multiplicities.

Precision Test of the Muon-Higgs Coupling at a High-energy Muon Collider

We explore the sensitivity of directly testing the muon-Higgs coupling at a high-energy muon collider. This is strongly motivated if there exists new physics that is not aligned with the Standard Model Yukawa interactions which are responsible for the fermion mass generation. We illustrate a few such examples for physics beyond the Standard Model. With the accidentally small value of the muon Yukawa coupling and its subtle role in the high-energy production of multiple (vector and Higgs) bosons, we show that it is possible to measure the muon-Higgs coupling to an accuracy of ten percent for a 10 TeV muon collider and a few percent for a 30 TeV machine by utilizing the three boson production, potentially sensitive to a new physics scale about $Λ\sim 30-100$ TeV.

The physics case of a 3 TeV muon collider stage

In the path towards a muon collider with center of mass energy of 10 TeV or more, a stage at 3 TeV emerges as an appealing option. Reviewing the physics potential of such muon collider is the main purpose of this document. In order to outline the progression of the physics performances across the stages, a few sensitivity projections for higher energy are also presented. There are many opportunities for probing new physics at a 3 TeV muon collider. Some of them are in common with the extensively documented physics case of the CLIC 3 TeV energy stage, and include measuring the Higgs trilinear coupling and testing the possible composite nature of the Higgs boson and of the top quark at the 20 TeV scale. Other opportunities are unique of a 3 TeV muon collider, and stem from the fact that muons are collided rather than electrons. This is exemplified by studying the potential to explore the microscopic origin of the current $g$-2 and $B$-physics anomalies, which are both related with muons.

From Models to SMEFT and Back?

We present a global analysis of the Higgs and electroweak sector, in the SMEFT framework and matched to a UV-completion. As the UV-model we use the triplet extension of the electroweak gauge sector. The matching is performed at one loop, employing functional methods. In the SFitter analysis, we pay particular attention to theory uncertainties arising from the matching. Our results highlight the complementarity between SMEFT and model-specific analyses.

Highly Boosted Higgs Bosons and Unitarity in Vector-Boson Fusion at Future Hadron Colliders

We study the observability of new interactions which modify Higgs-pair production via vector-boson fusion processes at the LHC and at future proton-proton colliders. In an effective-Lagrangian approach, we explore in particular the effect of the operator $h^2 W_{μν}^a W^{a,μν}$, which describes the interaction of the Higgs boson with transverse vector-boson polarization modes. By tagging highly boosted Higgs bosons in the final state, we determine projected bounds for the coefficient of this operator at the LHC and at a future 27 TeV or 100 TeV collider. Taking into account unitarity constraints, we estimate the new-physics discovery potential of Higgs pair production in this channel.

Status of the WHIZARD generator for linear colliders

This summarizes the talk given at the LCWS 2019 conference in Sendai, Japan, on the progress of the WHIZARD event generator in terms of new physics features and technical improvements relevant for the physics programme of future lepton and especially linear colliders. It takes as a reference the version 2.8.2 released in October 2019, and also takes into account the development until version 2.8.3 to be released in February 2020.

Multi-Higgs Production and Unitarity in Vector-Boson Fusion at Future Hadron Colliders

We study multi-Higgs final states in vector boson fusion (VBF) processes at the LHC and at future proton-proton colliders, focusing on the prospects for measurements at 27 TeV and at 100 TeV. We use an effective Lagrangian which includes higher-dimensional operators in the mass eigenstates which are relevant to VBF processes and relate this to specific parameterizations and models for new physics in the Higgs sector. We derive theoretical constraints on the parameter space from the unitarity of $2\to n$ scattering amplitudes and apply the results to $V V \to hh$ and $h h h$ processes, where $V=W,Z$. As a result, we present constraints on differential distributions as appropriate to the study of $V V \to hh$ and $h h h$ processes.

Effective Field Theory and Unitarity in Vector Boson Scattering

Weak vector boson scattering at high energies will be one of the key measurements in current and upcoming LHC runs. It is most sensitive to any new physics associated with electroweak symmetry breaking. However, a conventional EFT analysis will fail at high energies. To address this problem, we present a parameter-free prescription valid for arbitrary perturbative and non-perturbative models: the T-matrix unitarization. We describe its implementation as an asymptotically consistent reference model matched to the low-energy effective theory. We show examples of typical observables of vector-boson scattering at the LHC in our unitarized framework. For many strongly-coupled models like composite Higgs models, dimension-8 operators might be actually the leading operators. In addition to those longitudinal and transversal dimension eight EFT operators, the effects of generic tensor and scalar resonances within simplified models are considered.

NLO QCD Predictions for off-shell $t \bar t$ and $t \bar t H$ Production and Decay at a Linear Collider

We present predictions for $t \bar t$ and $t \bar t H$ production and decay at future lepton colliders including non-resonant and interference contributions up to next-to-leading order (NLO) in perturbative QCD. The obtained precision predictions are necessary for a future precise determination of the top-quark Yukawa coupling, and allow for top-quark phenomenology in the continuum at an unprecedented level of accuracy. Simulations are performed with the automated NLO Monte-Carlo framework WHIZARD interfaced to the OpenLoops matrix element generator.

Combining Pati-Salam and Flavour Symmetries

We construct an extension of the Standard Model (SM) which is based on grand unification with Pati-Salam symmetry. The setup is supplemented with the idea of spontaneous flavour symmetry breaking which is mediated through flavon fields with renormalizable couplings to new heavy fermions. While we argue that the new gauge bosons in this approach can be sufficiently heavy to be irrelevant at low energies, the fermionic partners of the SM quarks, in particular those for the third generation, can be relatively light and provide new sources of flavour violation. The size of the effects is constrained by the observed values of the SM Yukawa matrices, but in a way that is different from the standard minimal-flavour violation approach. We determine characteristic deviations from the SM that could eventually be observed in future precision measurements.

Flavour Models with Three Higgs Generations

We construct models with a spontaneously broken $SU(3)_F$ flavour symmetry where three generations of Higgs multiplets transform in a flavour-triplet representation. The models are embedded in a supersymmetric Pati-Salam GUT framework, which includes left-right symmetry. We study the possible flavon representations and show that a model with flavons in the decuplet representation is able to reproduce the hierarchy structure of the quark and lepton mass and mixing matrices. This result requires no additional structure or fine-tunings except for an extra $Z_4$ discrete symmetry in the superpotential.

Multiple Scales in Pati-Salam Unification Models

We investigate models where gauge unification (GUT) proceeds in steps that include Pati-Salam symmetry. Beyond the Standard Model, we allow for a well-defined set of small representations of the GUT gauge group. We show that all possible chains of Pati-Salam symmetry breaking can be realized in accordance with gauge-coupling unification. We identify, in particular, models with unification near the Planck scale, with intermediate left-right or SU(4) quark-lepton symmetries that are relevant for flavor physics, with new colored particles at accessible energies, and with an enlarged electroweak Higgs sector. We look both at supersymmetric and non-supersymmetric scenarios.

Constraints on Spin-Dependent Short-Range Interaction between Nucleons

We report on the search for a new spin-dependent P- and T-violating interaction between nucleons mediated by light, pseudoscalar bosons such as the axion which was invented to solve the strong CP problem. Our experimental approach is to use an ultra-sensitive low-field magnetometer based on the detection of free precession of co-located 3He and 129Xe nuclear spins using SQUIDs as low-noise magnetic flux detectors. In the presence of an unpolarized mass the precession frequency shif

Monte Carlo tools for studies of non-standard electroweak gauge boson interactions in multi-boson processes: A Snowmass White Paper

In this Snowmass 2013 white paper, we review the effective field theory approach for studies of non-standard electroweak interactions in electroweak vector boson pair and triple production and vector boson scattering. We present an overview of the implementation of dimension six and eight operators in MadGraph5, VBFNLO, and WHIZARD, and provide relations between the coefficients of these higher dimensions operators used in these programs and in the anomalous couplings approach. We perform a tuned comparison of predictions for multi-boson processes including non-standard electroweak interactions with MadGraph5, VBFNLO, and WHIZARD. We discuss the role of higher-order corrections in these predictions using VBFNLO and a POWHEG BOX implementation of higher-order QCD corrections to WWjj production. The purpose of this white paper is to collect useful tools for the study of non-standard EW physics at the LHC, compare them, and study the main physics issues in the relevant processes.

Effective Field Theory: A Modern Approach to Anomalous Couplings

We advocate an effective field theory approach to anomalous couplings. The effective field theory approach is the natural way to extend the standard model such that the gauge symmetries are respected. It is general enough to capture any physics beyond the standard model, yet also provides guidance as to the most likely place to see the effects of new physics. The effective field theory approach also clarifies that one need not be concerned with the violation of unitarity in scattering processes at high energy. We apply these ideas to pair production of electroweak vector bosons.

WHIZARD: Simulating Multi-Particle Processes at LHC and ILC

We describe the universal Monte-Carlo event generator WHIZARD. The program automatically computes complete tree-level matrix elements, integrates them over phase space, evaluates distributions of observables, and generates unweighted event samples that can be used directly in detector simulation. There is no principal limit on the process complexity; using current hardware, the program has successfully been applied to hard scattering processes with up to eight particles in the final state. Matrix elements are computed as helicity amplitudes, so spin and color correlations are retained. The Standard Model, the MSSM, and many alternative models such as Little Higgs, anomalous couplings, or effects of extra dimensions or noncommutative SM extensions have been implemented. Using standard interfaces to PDF, beamstrahlung, parton shower and hadronization programs, WHIZARD generates complete physical events and covers physics at hadron, lepton, and photon colliders.

Resonances and Unitarity in Weak Boson Scattering at the LHC

A crucial test of the Standard Model is the measurement of electroweak gauge-boson scattering. In this paper, we describe a generic parameterization aimed at a realistic simulation of weak-boson scattering at the LHC. The parameterization implements resonances of all possible spin and isospin combinations, properly matched to the low-energy effective (chiral) Lagrangian, includes leading higher-order effects and contains a minimal unitarization scheme. We implement the parameterization in the Monte-Carlo event generator WHIZARD and present results for complete partonic cross-section integration and event generation. We provide a comparison with the effective W approximation that previously has been used for most WW scattering studies at hadron colliders.

Pseudo-Axions in Little Higgs Models

In Little Higgs models, the Higgs mass is stabilized at the one-loop level by the mechanism of collective symmetry breaking. Typically, the basic ingredient of these models is a large(r) global symmetry group spontaneously broken at a scale of several TeV. The (light) Higgs appears as a Goldstone boson corresponding to a non-diagonal broken generator of this global symmetry. There could also be physical pseudoscalar particles present which belong to diagonal generators, having the properties of axions with masses in the range from several GeV up to the electroweak scale. We investigate the interesting phenomenology of these pseudo-axions at the linear collider as well as the photon collider.
