Parameter-free quantum hydrodynamic theory for plasmonics: Electron density-dependent damping rate and diffusion coefficient

Plasmonics is a rapid growing field, which has enabled both fundamental science and inventions of various quantum optoelectronic devices. An accurate and efficient method to calculate the optical response of metallic structures with feature size in the nanoscale plays an important role. Quantum hydrodynamic theory (QHT) provides an efficient description of the free-electron gas, where quantum effects of nonlocality and spill-out are taken into account. In this work, we introduce a general QHT that includes diffusion to account for the broadening, which is a key problem in practical applications of surface plasmon. We will introduce a density-dependent diffusion coefficient to give very accurate linewidth. It is a self-consistent method, in which both the ground and excited states are solved by using the same energy functional, with the kinetic energy described by the Thomas-Fermi and von Weizsäcker (vW) formalisms. In addition, our QHT method is stable by introduction of an electron density-dependent damping rate. For sodium nanosphere of various sizes, the plasmon energy and broadening by our QHT method are in excellent agreement with those by density functional theory and Kreibig formula. By applying our QHT method to sodium jellium nanorods, we clearly show that our method enables a parameter-free simulation, i.e. without resorting to any empirical parameter, such as size-dependent damping rate and diffusing coefficient. It is found that there exists a perfect linear relation between the resonance wavelength and aspect radio. The width decreases with increasing aspect ratio and height. The calculations show that our QHT method provides an explicit and unified way to account for size-dependent frequency shifts and broadening of arbitrarily shaped geometries. It is reliable and robust with great predicability, and hence provides a general and efficient platform to study plasmonics.

Production of the $η_{1}(1855)$ through kaon induced reactions under the assumptions that it is a molecular or a hybrid state

By the reaction of kaon interacting with a proton, we investigate the production of the newly observed $η_{1}(1855)$ predicted in the picture of the $K\bar{K}_1(1400)$ molecular state and hybrid state. The total and differential cross sections of the concrete $K^{-}p\toη_{1}(1855)Λ$ reaction are calculated. Taking the partial decay width of the $η_{1}$ to $K\bar{K}^{\ast }$ as 0.9 MeV and 98.1 MeV, the minimum cross section of the $η_{1}(1855)$ production via the $K^{-}p$ reaction can reach up 0.59 $nb$ and 63.8 $nb$ at the center of mass energies $W\simeq 3.5$ GeV, respectively. The differential cross sections for the $η_{1}(1855)$ production at the different center of mass energies are also available. Furthermore, we present the Dalitz processes of $2\rightarrow 3$ and $2\rightarrow 4$, and initially discuss the feasibility of finding out the $η_{1}(1855)$ in experiments like J-PARC.

Systematic analysis of the proton mass radius based on photoproduction of vector charmoniums

In this work, the cross-section of the reaction $γp \rightarrow V(J/ψ,ψ(2S)) p$ from the production threshold to medium energy is studied and systematically analyzed within two gluon exchange model. The obtained numerical results are in agreement with experimental data and other theoretical predictions. Under the assumption of the scalar form factor of dipole form, the value of proton mass radius is calculated as $0.55\pm 0.09$ fm and $ 0.77\pm 0.12$ fm from the fit to the predicted $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ differential cross-section, respectively. Finally the average value of proton mass radius is estimated to be $\sqrt{\left<R^2_m \right>}=0.67\pm 0.11$ fm. Moreover, one find that extracting mass radius from the near-threshold differential cross-section of heavy quarkoniums is always affected by large $|t|_{min}$. These obtained results may provide important theoretical reference for understanding of nucleon structure and future relevant experiments.

The $ψ^{(\ast)}p$ scattering length based on near-threshold charmoniums photoproduction

Under the framework of Vector Meson Dominance model, the value of scattering length can be expressed as a function of the ratio between total cross section $σ(W)$ and $R (W)$, where $R(W)$ is the ratio between final momentum $|{\bf p}_3 |$ and initial momentum $|{\bf p}_1|$ and positively correlated with the center-of-mass energy. Based on the theoretical study of charmoniums photoproduction within two gluon exchange model and effective pomeron model, we research the scattering lengths of vector mesons and proton interaction in this work. Results show that the scattering length $\left|α_{J/ψp}\right|$ obtained from the two models are close and basically in agreement with the theoretical prediction of Strakovsky and co-workers. Additionally, we first calculate the scattering length of $ψ(2S) $-proton interaction in two gluon exchange model and effective pomeron model as $ 1.31\pm 0.92$ am (1 am = $10^{-3}$ fm) and $ 3.24 \pm 0.63$ am, respectively. This is a little bit different from the two models and requires precise measurements from subsequent experiments. In short, our results will provide a theoretical reference for future studies on characterizing the vector meson-proton scattering length.

Discovery potential for the LHCb fully-charm tetraquark $X(6900)$ state via $\bar{p}p$ annihilation reaction

Inspired by the observation of the fully-charm tetraquark $X(6900)$ state at LHCb, the production of $X(6900)$ in $\bar{p}p\rightarrow J/ψJ/ψ$ reaction is studied within an effective Lagrangian approach and Breit-Wigner formula. The numerical results show that the cross section of $X(6900)$ at the c.m. energy of 6.9 GeV is much larger than that from the background contribution. Moreover, we estimate dozens of signal events can be detected by D0 experiment, which indicates that searching for the $X(6900)$ via antiproton-proton scattering may be a very important and promising way. Therefore, related experiments are suggested to be carried out.

Systematic study on production of hidden-bottom pentaquark via $γp$ and $π^{-}p$ scatterings

The production of hidden-bottom pentaquark $P_{b}$ states via $γp$ and $π^{-}p$ scatterings is studied within an effective Lagrangian approach and the vector-meson-dominance mechnism. For the $P_{b}$ production in the process $γp\rightarrow Υp$, the dipole Pomeron model is employed to calculate the background contribution, and the experimental data can be well described. For the process $π^{-}p\rightarrow Υn$, the Reggeized $t$-channel with $π$ exchange is considered as the main background for the $P_{b}$ production. Near the threshold, two-peak structure from the states $P_{b (11080)$ and $P_{b}(11125)$ can be observed if energy bin width is chosen as 0.01 GeV, and the same result is obtained in the $π^{-}p$ scattering. Moreover, by taking the branching ratio of Br$[{P_{b}\rightarrow πN}]\simeq 0.05\%$, the numerical result shows that the average value of cross section from the $P_{b}(11080)$ state produced in the $γp$ or $π^{-}p$ scattering reaches at least 0.1 nb with a bin of 0.1 GeV. Even if we reduce the branching ratio of the $P_{b}$ state into $πN$ channel by one order, the theoretical average of the cross section from $P_{b}(11080)$ production in $π^{-}p$ scattering can reach the order of 0.01 nb with a bin of 0.1 GeV, which means that the signal can still be clearly distinguished from the background. The experimental measurements and studies on the hidden-bottom pentaquark $P_{b}$ state production in the $γp $ or $π^{-}p$ scattering near-threshold energy region around $W\simeq 11$ GeV are strongly suggested, which are accessible at COMPASS and JPARC. Particularly, the result of the photoproduction suggests that it is very promising to observe the hidden-bottom pentaquark at proposed EicC facility in China.

Bound state and non-Markovian dynamics of a quantum emitter around a surface plasmonic nanostructure

A bound state between a quantum emitter (QE) and surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) can be formed, where the QE is partially stabilized in its excited state. We put forward a general approach for calculating the energy level shift at a negative frequency $ω$, which is just the negative of the nonresonant part for the energy level shift at positive frequency $-ω$. We also propose an efficient formalism for obtaining the long-time value of the excited-state population without calculating the eigenfrequency of the bound state or performing a time evolution of the system, in which the probability amplitude for the excited state in the steady limit is equal to one minus the integral of the evolution spectrum over the positive frequency range. With the above two quantities obtained, we show that the non-Markovian decay dynamics in the presence of a bound state can be obtained by the method based on the Green's function expression for the evolution operator. A general criterion for identifying the existence of a bound state is presented. These are numerically demonstrated for a QE located around a nanosphere and in a gap plasmonic nanocavity. These findings are instructive in the fields of coherent light-matter interactions.

Analysis of recent CLAS data on $Σ^{\ast }(1385)$ photoproduction off a neutron target

Based on recent experimental data obtained by the CLAS Collaboration, the $Σ(1385)$ photoproduction off a neutron target at laboratory photon energies $E_γ$ up to 2.5\,GeV is investigated in an effective Lagrangian approach including $s$-, $u$-, and $t$-channel Born-term contributions. The present calculation does not take into account any explicit $s$-channel baryon-resonance contributions, however, in the spirit of duality, we include $t$-channel exchanges of mesonic Regge trajectories. The onset of the Regge regime is controlled by smoothly interpolating between Feynman-type single-meson exchanges and full-fledged Regge-trajectory exchanges. Gauge invariance broken by the Regge treatment is fully restored by introducing contact-type interaction currents that result from the implementation of \textit{local} gauge invariance in terms of generalized Ward-Takahashi identities. The cross sections for the $γn\to K^+Σ^*(1385)^-$ reaction are calculated and compared with experimental results from the CLAS and LEPS collaborations. Despite its simplicity, the present theoretical approach provides a good description of the main features of the data. However, the parameters fitted to the data show that the gauge-invariance-restoring contact term plays a large role which may point to large contributions from final-state interactions.

Photoproduction of $a_{2}(1320)$ in a Regge model

In this work, the photoproduction of $a_{2}(1320)$ off a proton target is investigated within an effective Lagrangian approach and the Regge model. The theoretical result indicates that the shapes of {the} total and differential cross sections of the $γp\rightarrow a_{2}^{+}n$ reaction within the Feynman (isobar) model are much different from that of the Reggeized treatment. The obtained cross section is compared with the existing experimental results at low energies. The $a_{2}(1320)$ production cross section at high energies can be tested by the COMPASS experiment, which can provide important information for clarifying the role of the Reggeized treatment at that energy range.

The $K^{\ast 0}Λ$ photoproduction off a neutron

Inspired by the preliminary experimental data by the CLAS Collaboration, the $K^{\ast 0}Λ$ photoproduction off a neutron is studied within an effective Lagrangian approach. The contributions from the Born terms including $s$, $u$, and $t$ channels are considered to calculate the amplitude, with which the cross sections are calculated and compared with preliminary CLAS data. The theoretical results indicate that the contribution from the $K$-exchange $t$ channel plays a dominant role for the $K^{\ast 0}Λ$ photoproduction. The contribution from the $κ$ exchange is found one order of magnitude smaller than that from the $K$ exchange. Both the Regge model and the Feynman model are applied to treat the $t$-channel contribution. The discrepancy between two models is found small in the energy range of CLAS data and predicted to become obvious at energies higher than 3 GeV. More precise experimental data especially at backward angles will be helpful to further understand the interaction mechanism of the $K^{\ast 0}Λ$ photoproduction.

$Λ_{c}^{+}(2940)$ photoproduction off the neutron

By assuming that the $Λ_{c}^{\ast }(2940)$ is a $pD^{\ast 0}$ molecular state with spin-parity $J^{P}=\frac{1}{2}^{+}$ and $J^{P}=\frac{1}{2}^{-}$, the photoproduction of charmed $Λ_{c}^{\ast }(2940)$ baryon in the $γn\rightarrow D^{-}Λ_{c}^{\ast }(2940)^{+}$ process is investigated with an effective Lagrangian approach. It is found that the contributions from $t$-channel with $D^{\ast }$ exchange are dominant, while the $s$-channel with nucleon pole exchange give a sizeable contribution around the threshold. The contributions from the $u$-channel and contact term are very small. The total cross section of the $γn\rightarrow D^{-}Λ_{c}^{\ast }(2940)^{+}$ reaction is estimated, which indicate it is feasible to searching for the charmed $Λ_{c}^{\ast }(2940)$ baryon at the COMPASS experiment.

Charmed hadron photoproduction at COMPASS

Photoproduction of the charmonium-like state $Z_{c}(4200)$ and the charmed baryon $Λ_{c}^{\ast }(2940)$ is investigated with an effective Lagrangian approach and the Regge trajectories applying to the COMPASS experiment. Combining the experimental data from COMPASS and our theoretical model we estimate the upper limit of $Γ_{Z_{c}(4200)\rightarrow J/ψπ}$ to be of about 37 MeV. Moreover, the possibility to produce $Λ_{c}^{\ast }(2940)$ at COMPASS is discussed. It seems one can try to search for this hadron in the missing mass spectrum since the $t$-channel is dominating for the $Λ_{c}^{\ast }(2940)$ photoproduction.

Discovery potential for the neutral charmoniumlike $Z^{0}(4200)$ by $\bar{p}p$ annihilation

Inspired by the observation of charmoniumlike $Z(4200)$, we explore the discovery potential of the neutral $Z^{0}(4200)$ production by antiproton-proton annihilation with an effective Lagrangian approach. By investigating the $\bar{p}p\rightarrow J/ψπ^{0}$ process including the $Z^{0}(4200)$ signal and background contributions, it is found that the center of mass energy $E_{c.m.}\simeq 4.0-4.5$ GeV is the best energy window for searching the neutral $Z^{0}(4200)$, where the signal can be clearly distinguished from background. The relevant calculations is not only helpful to search for the neutral $Z^{0}(4200)$ in the future experiment, but also will promote the understanding the nature and production mechanism of neutral $Z^{0}(4200)$ better.

Neutral hidden charm pentaquark states $P_c^0(4380)$ and $P_c^0(4450)$ in $π^-p \to J/ψn$ reaction

We investigate the neutral hidden charm pentaquark states $P_c^0(4380)$ and $P_c^0(4450)$ in $π^-p \to J/ψn$ reaction within an effective Lagrangian approach. The background contributions for the process mainly come from $t$-channel $π$ and $ρ$ meson exchanges. The contributions of $P_c^0(4380)$ and $P_c^0(4450)$ states give clear peak structures in the magnitude of 1 $μ$b at center of mass energy 4.38 GeV and 4.45 GeV in the total cross sections. Hence, this reaction may provide a new good platform to search for neutral $P_c$ states. It is expected that our estimated total cross sections together with the angular distributions can be tested by future experiments at J-PARC.

Photoproduction of the charged charmoniumlike $Z_{c}^{+}(4200)$

In this work, inspired by the observation of charmoniumlike $Z_{c}^{+}(4200)$% , we study the photoproduction of charged charmoniumlike $Z_{c}^{+}(4200)$ with an effective Lagrangian approach and the Regge trajectories model. The numerical results indicate that the Reggeized treatment can lead to a lower total cross section of the $Z_{c}^{+}(4200)$ photoproduction and the peak position of cross section was moved to the higher energy point when the Reggeized treatment was added. {Moreover, using the data from the COMPASS experiment and presented theoretical predictions, an upper limit of the decay width of $Z_{c}(4200)\rightarrow J/ψπ$ is estimated.} The relevant results not only shed light on the further experiment of searching for the charmoniumlike $Z_{c}(4200)$ state via meson photoproduction, but also provide valuable informations for having a better comprehension of the nature of charmoniumlike $Z_{c}(4200)$ state.

Preserving Local Gauge Invariance with t-Channel Regge Exchange

Considering single-meson photo- and electroproduction off a baryon, it is shown how to restore local gauge invariance that was broken by replacing standard Feynman-type meson exchange in the t-channel by exchange of a Regge trajectory. This is achieved by constructing a contact current whose four-divergence cancels the gauge-invariance-violating contributions resulting from all states above the base state on the Regge trajectory. To illustrate the procedure, modifications necessary for the process $γ+p \to K^+ + Σ^{*0}$ are discussed in some detail. We also provide the general expression for the contact current for an arbitrary reaction.

Production of the superheavy baryon $Λ_{c\bar{c}}^{\ast}(4209) $ in kaon-induced reaction

The production of superheavy $Λ_{c\bar{c}}^{\ast }(4209)$ baryon in the $K^{-}p\rightarrow η_{c}Λ$ process via $s$-channel is investigated with an effective Lagrangian approach and the isobar model. Moreover, the $t$-channel with $K^{\ast }$ and $u$-channel with nucleon exchange are also considered, which are regarded as the background for the $Λ_{c\bar{c}}^{\ast }(4209)$ production in the $K^{-}p\rightarrow η_{c}Λ$ reaction. The numerical results indicate it is feasible to searching for the superheavy $Λ_{c\bar{c}}^{\ast }(4209)$ via $K^{-}p$ scattering. These theoretical results not only provide valuable informations to future experimental exploration of $Λ_{c\bar{c}}^{\ast }(4209)$ resonance but enable us to have a better understanding of the exotic baryons.

Reexamination of the role of the $Δ^{\ast}$ resonances in the $pp\rightarrow nK^{+}Σ^{+}$ reaction

In this work, the role of the $Δ^{\ast }$ resonances in the process of $pp\rightarrow nK^{+}Σ^{+}$ are systematically investigated with the effective Lagrangian approach and the isobar model. We find that a $P_{31}$ state, either $Δ^{\ast }(1750)$ or $Δ^{\ast }(1910)$, is favored by the data while the $P_{33}$ state, namely $Δ^{\ast }(1920)$, has small contribution. Besides, either sub-threshold $S_{31}$ $Δ^{\ast }(1620)$ resonance or strong $nΣ$ final state interaction or both have possible contribution at near threshold region, depending on the measured cross sections. We demonstrate the invariant mass distributions and the Dalitz Plots in order to investigate whether it is possible to distinguish the controversial $KΣ$ production mechanism in these observables.
