Separability criteria based on the Weyl operators

Entanglement as a vital resource for information processing can be described by special properties of the quantum state. Using the well-known Weyl basis we propose a new Bloch decomposition of the quantum state and study its separability problem. This decomposition enables us to find an alternative characterization of the separability based on the correlation matrix. We shaw that the criterion is effective in detecting entanglement for the isotropic states, Bell-diagonal states and some PPT entangled states. We also use the Weyl operators to construct an detecting operator for quantum teleportation.

Standard symmetrized variance with applications to coherence, uncertainty and entanglement

Variance is a ubiquitous quantity in quantum information theory. Given a basis, we consider the averaged variances of a fixed diagonal observable in a pure state under all possible permutations on the components of the pure state and call it the symmetrized variance. Moreover we work out the analytical expression of the symmetrized variance and find that such expression is in the factorized form where two factors separately depends on the diagonal observable and quantum state. By shifting the factor corresponding to the diagonal observable, we introduce the notion named the standard symmetrized variance for the pure state which is independent of the diagonal observable. We then extend the standard symmetrized variance to mixed states in three different ways, which characterize the uncertainty, the coherence and the coherence of assistance, respectively. These quantities are evaluated analytically and the relations among them are established. In addition, we show that the standard symmetrized variance is also an entanglement measure for bipartite systems. In this way, these different quantumness of quantum states are unified by the variance.

Coherence Concurrence for X States

We study the properties of coherence concurrence and present a physical explanation analogous to the coherence of assistance. We give an optimal pure state decomposition which attains the coherence concurrence for qubit states. We prove the additivity of coherence concurrence under direct sum operations in another way. Using these results, we calculate analytically the coherence concurrence for X states and show its optimal decompositions. Moreover, we show that the coherence concurrence is exactly twice the convex roof extended negativity of the Schmidt correlated states, thus establishing a direct relation between coherence concurrence and quantum entanglement.

The l1 Norm of Coherence of Assistance

We introduce and study the l1 norm of coherence of assistance both theoretically and operationally. We first provide an upper bound for the l1 norm of coherence of assistance and show a necessary and sufficient condition for the saturation of the upper bound. For two and three dimensional quantum states, the analytical expression of the l1 norm of coherence of assistance is given. Operationally, the mixed quantum coherence can always be increased with the help of another party' s local measurement and one way classical communication since the l1 norm of coherence of assistance, as well as the relative entropy of coherence of assistance, is shown to be strictly larger than the original coherence. The relation between the l1 norm of coherence of assistance and entanglement is revealed. Finally, a comparison between the l1 norm of coherence of assistance and the relative entropy of coherence of assistance is made.

A Note on Local Unitary Equivalence of Isotropic-like States

We consider the local unitary equivalence of a class of quantum states in bipartite case and multipartite case. The necessary and sufficient condition is presented. As special cases, the local unitary equivalent classes of isotropic state and werner state are provided. Then we study the local unitary similar equivalence of this class of quantum states and analyze the necessary and sufficient condition.

Criterion for SLOCC Equivalence of Multipartite Quantum States

We study the stochastic local operation and classical communication (SLOCC) equivalence for arbitrary dimensional multipartite quantum states. For multipartite pure states, we present a necessary and sufficient criterion in terms of their coefficient matrices. This condition can be used to classify some SLOCC equivalent quantum states with coefficient matrices having the same rank. For multipartite mixed state, we provide a necessary and sufficient condition by means of the realignment of matrix. Some detailed examples are given to identify the SLOCC equivalence of multipartite quantum states.

Maximally entangled state and fully entangled fraction

We study maximally entangled states and fully entangled fraction in general d'\otimes d (d'\geq d) systems. Necessary and sufficient conditions for maximally entangled pure and mixed states are presented. As a natural generalization of the usual fully entangled fraction for d\otimes d systems, we define the maximal overlap between a given quantum state and the maximally entangled states as the fully entangled fraction in d'\otimes d systems. The properties of this fully entangled fraction and its relations to quantum teleportation have been analyzed. The witness for detecting maximally entangled states and quantum states that are useful for quantum teleportation is provided.

Remote Creation of Quantum Coherence

We study remote creation of coherence (RCC) for a quantum system, A, with the help of quantum operations on another system, B, and one-way classical communication. We show that all the nonincoherent quantum states are useful for RCC and all the incoherent-quantum states are not. The necessary and sufficient conditions of RCC for the quantum operations on system B are presented for pure states. The upper bound of average RCC is derived, giving a relation among the entanglement (concurrence), the RCC of the given quantum state, and the RCC of the corresponding maximally entangled state. Moreover, for two-qubit systems we find a simple factorization law for the average remote-created coherence.

von Neumann measurement-related matrices and the nullity condition for quantum correlation

We study von Neumann measurement-related matrices, and the nullity condition of quantum correlation. We investigate the properties of these matrices that are related to a von Neumann measurement. It is shown that these (m^2-1)* (m^2-1) matrices are idempotent, and have rank m-1. These properties give rise to necessary conditions for the nullity of quantum correlations in bipartite systems. Finally, as an example we discuss quantum correlation in Bell diagonal states.

Detection of Ideal Resource for Multiqubit Teleportation

We give a sufficient condition in detecting entanglement resource for perfect multiqubit teleportation. The criterion involves only local measurements on some complementary observables and can be experimentally implemented. It is also a necessary condition for fully separability of multiqubit states. Moreover, by proving the optimality of teleportation witnesses, we solve the open problem in [Phys. Rev. A {\bf 86}, 032315 (2012)].

Maximizing the divergence from a hierarchical model of quantum states

We study many-party correlations quantified in terms of the Umegaki relative entropy (divergence) from a Gibbs family known as a hierarchical model. We derive these quantities from the maximum-entropy principle which was used earlier to define the closely related irreducible correlation. We point out differences between quantum states and probability vectors which exist in hierarchical models, in the divergence from a hierarchical model and in local maximizers of this divergence. The differences are, respectively, missing factorization, discontinuity and reduction of uncertainty. We discuss global maximizers of the mutual information of separable qubit states.

Non-commutativity and Local Indistinguishability of Quantum States

We study the local indistinguishability problem of quantum states. By introducing an easily calculated quantity, non-commutativity, we present an criterion which is both necessary and sufficient for the local indistinguishability of a complete set of pure orthogonal product states. A constructive distinguishing procedure to obtain the concrete local measurements and classical communications is given. The non-commutativity of ensembles can be also used to characterize the quantumness for classical-quantum or quantum-classical correlated states.

Criterion of Local Unitary Equivalence for Multipartite States

We study the local unitary equivalence of arbitrary dimensional multipartite quantum mixed states. We present a necessary and sufficient criterion of the local unitary equivalence for general multipartite states based on matrix realignment. The criterion is shown to be operational even for particularly degenerated states by detailed examples. Besides, explicit expressions of the local unitary operators are constructed for locally equivalent states. In complement to the criterion, an alternative approach based on partial transposition of matrices is also given, which makes the criterion more effective in dealing with generally degenerated mixed states.

Entanglement Detection and Distillation for Arbitrary Bipartite Systems

We present an inequality for detecting entanglement and distillability of arbitrary dimensional bipartite systems. This inequality provides a sufficient condition of entanglement for bipartite mixed states, and a necessary and sufficient condition of entanglement for bipartite pure states. Moreover, the inequality also gives a necessary and sufficient condition for distillability.

Identification of three-qubit entanglement

We present a way of identifying all kinds of entanglement for three-qubit pure states in terms of the expectation values of Pauli operators. The necessary and sufficient conditions to classify the fully separable, biseparable, and genuine entangled states are explicitly given. The approach can be generalized to multipartite high-dimensional cases. For three-qubit mixed states, we propose two kinds of inequalities in terms of the expectation values of complementary observables. One inequality has advantages in entanglement detection of the quantum state with positive partial transpositions, and the other is able to detect genuine entanglement. The results give an effective method for experimental entanglement identification.

Local unitary invariants for multipartite states

We study the invariants of arbitrary dimensional multipartite quantum states under local unitary transformations. For multipartite pure states, we give a set of invariants in terms of singular values of coefficient matrices. For multipartite mixed states, we propose a set of invariants in terms of the trace of coefficient matrices. For full ranked mixed states with nondegenerate eigenvalues, this set of invariants is also the necessary and sufficient conditions for the local unitary equivalence of such two states.

Quantum Correlations Induced by Local von Neumann Measurement

We study the total quantum correlation, semiquantum correlation and joint quantum correlation induced by local von Neumann measurement in bipartite system. We analyze the properties of these quantum correlations and obtain analytical formula for pure states. The experimental witness for these quantum correlations is further provided and the significance of these quantum correlations is discussed in the context of local distinguishability of quantum states.

preprint2012arXiv

Complete Entanglement Witness for Quantum Teleportation

We propose a set of linear quantum entanglement witnesses constituted by local quantum-mechanical observables with each two possible measurement outcomes. These witnesses detect all the entangled resources which give rise to a better fidelity than separable states in quantum teleportation and present both sufficient and necessary conditions in experimentally detecting the useful resources for quantum teleportation.

Maximally entangled state can be a mixed state

We find that the mixed maximally entangled states exist and prove that the form of the mixed maximally entangled states is unique in terms of the entanglement of formation. Moreover, even if the entanglement is quantified by other entanglement measures, this conclusion is still proven right. This result is a supplementary to the generally accepted fact that all maximally entangled states are pure. These states possess important properties of the pure maximally entangled states, for example, these states can be used as a resource for faithful teleportation and they can be distinguished perfectly by local operations and classical communication.

preprint2011arXiv

Faithful teleportation with arbitrary pure or mixed resource states

We study faithful teleportation systematically with arbitrary entangled states as resources. The necessary conditions of mixed states to complete perfect teleportation are proved. Based on these results, the necessary and sufficient conditions of faithful teleportation of an unknown state |ϕ> in C^d with an entangled resource ρ in C^m \otimes C^d and C^d \otimes C^n are derived. It is shown that for ρ in C^m\otimesC^d, ρ must be a maximally entangled state, while for ρ in C^d \otimes C^n, ρ must be a puremaximally entangled state. Moreover, we show that the sender's measurements must be all projectors of maximally entangled pure states. The relations between the entanglement of the formation of the resource states and faithful teleportation are also discussed.

Inequalities Detecting Quantum Entanglement for $2\otimes d$ Systems

We present a set of inequalities for detecting quantum entanglement of $2\otimes d$ quantum states. For $2\otimes 2$ and $2\otimes 3$ systems, the inequalities give rise to sufficient and necessary separability conditions for both pure and mixed states. For the case of $d>3$, these inequalities are necessary conditions for separability, which detect all entangled states that are not positive under partial transposition and even some entangled states with positive partial transposition. These inequalities are given by mean values of local observables and present an experimental way of detecting the quantum entanglement of $2\otimes d$ quantum states and even multi-qubit pure states.

preprint2011arXiv

Lower Bound of Concurrence and Distillation for Arbitrary Dimensional Bipartite Quantum States

We present a lower bound of concurrence for arbitrary dimensional bipartite quantum states. This lower bound may be used to improve all the known lower bounds of concurrence. Moreover, the lower bound gives rise to an operational sufficient criterion of distillability of quantum entanglement. The significance of our result is illustrated by quantitative evaluation of entanglement for entangled states that fail to be identified by the usual concurrence estimation method, and by showing the distillability of mixed states that can not be recognized by other distillability criteria.

Nonlocality of two-qubit and three-qubit Schmidt-Correlated states

We investigate the nonlocality of Schmidt-correlated (SC) states, and present analytical expressions of the maximum violation value of Bell inequalities. It is shown that the violation of Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt (CHSH) inequality is necessary and sufficient for the nonlocality of two-qubit SC states, whereas the violation of the Svetlichny inequality is only a sufficient condition for the genuine nonlocality of three-qubit SC states. Furthermore, the relations among the maximum violation values, concurrence and relative entropy entanglement are discussed.

preprint2011arXiv

On Locality of Schmidt-Correlated States

We review some results on the equivalence of quantum states under local unitary transformations (LUT). In particular, the classification of two-qubit Schmidt correlated (SC) states under LUT is investigated. By presenting the standard form of quantum states under LUT, the sufficient and necessary conditions of whether two different SC states are local unitary equivalent are provided. The correlations of SC states are also discussed.

Evolution equation for entanglement of assistance

We investigate the time evolution of the entanglement of assistance when one subsystem undergoes the action of local noisy channels. A general factorization law is presented for the evolution equation of entanglement of assistance. Our results demonstrate that the dynamics of the entanglement of assistance is determined by the action of a noisy channel on the pure maximally entangled state, in which the entanglement reduction turns out to be universal for all quantum states entering the channel. This single quantity will make it easy to characterize the entanglement dynamics of entanglement of assistance under unknown channels in the experimental process of producing entangled states by assisted entanglement.

Experimental Determination of Entanglement for Arbitrary Pure States

We present a way of experimentally determining the concurrence in terms of the expectation values of local observables for arbitrary multipartite pure states. In stead of the joint measurements on two copies of a state in the experiment for two-qubit systems [S. P. Walborn et al. Nature (London)440, 20(2006)], we only need one copy of the state in every measurement for any arbitrary dimensional multipartite systems, avoiding the preparation of twin states or the imperfect copy of the state.
