Coarse-to-Fine Recursive Speech Separation for Unknown Number of Speakers

The vast majority of speech separation methods assume that the number of speakers is known in advance, hence they are specific to the number of speakers. By contrast, a more realistic and challenging task is to separate a mixture in which the number of speakers is unknown. This paper formulates the speech separation with the unknown number of speakers as a multi-pass source extraction problem and proposes a coarse-to-fine recursive speech separation method. This method comprises two stages, namely, recursive cue extraction and target speaker extraction. The recursive cue extraction stage determines how many computational iterations need to be performed and outputs a coarse cue speech by monitoring statistics in the mixture. As the number of recursive iterations increases, the accumulation of distortion eventually comes into the extracted speech and reminder. Therefore, in the second stage, we use a target speaker extraction network to extract a fine speech based on the coarse target cue and the original distortionless mixture. Experiments show that the proposed method archived state-of-the-art performance on the WSJ0 dataset with a different number of speakers. Furthermore, it generalizes well to an unseen large number of speakers.

Scalable Temporal Localization of Sensitive Activities in Movies and TV Episodes

To help customers make better-informed viewing choices, video-streaming services try to moderate their content and provide more visibility into which portions of their movies and TV episodes contain age-appropriate material (e.g., nudity, sex, violence, or drug-use). Supervised models to localize these sensitive activities require large amounts of clip-level labeled data which is hard to obtain, while weakly-supervised models to this end usually do not offer competitive accuracy. To address this challenge, we propose a novel Coarse2Fine network designed to make use of readily obtainable video-level weak labels in conjunction with sparse clip-level labels of age-appropriate activities. Our model aggregates frame-level predictions to make video-level classifications and is therefore able to leverage sparse clip-level labels along with video-level labels. Furthermore, by performing frame-level predictions in a hierarchical manner, our approach is able to overcome the label-imbalance problem caused due to the rare-occurrence nature of age-appropriate content. We present comparative results of our approach using 41,234 movies and TV episodes (~3 years of video-content) from 521 sub-genres and 250 countries making it by far the largest-scale empirical analysis of age-appropriate activity localization in long-form videos ever published. Our approach offers 107.2% relative mAP improvement (from 5.5% to 11.4%) over existing state-of-the-art activity-localization approaches.

Decoherence of Dirac-particle quantumness for fermionic fields in a dilatonic black hole

The quantumness of Dirac paticles for quantized fields in a dilatonic black hole is estimated by means of quantum channel. We develop a general Bloch vector representation of quantum channel in black hole spacetimes beyond single mode approximation. The nonclassicality of Dirac particles can be measured by the minimization of quantum coherence over all orthonormal basis sets. The quantumness of the channel decreases as the dilaton parameter increases. The interplay between the external reservoir noise and dilaton black hole on the dynamical behavior of quantum coherence and steerability is investigated in the Pauli basis. The external environment is modelled by a random telegraph noise channel. The monotonous decay of quantum nonlocality occurs in the weak coupling case. The degradation and revival of quantum nonlocality are observed in the strong coupling condition. It is found that quantum fluctuation effects of the external reservoir can protect quantum coherence and steerability from the information loss of the black hole.

An Edge Information and Mask Shrinking Based Image Inpainting Approach

In the image inpainting task, the ability to repair both high-frequency and low-frequency information in the missing regions has a substantial influence on the quality of the restored image. However, existing inpainting methods usually fail to consider both high-frequency and low-frequency information simultaneously. To solve this problem, this paper proposes edge information and mask shrinking based image inpainting approach, which consists of two models. The first model is an edge generation model used to generate complete edge information from the damaged image, and the second model is an image completion model used to fix the missing regions with the generated edge information and the valid contents of the damaged image. The mask shrinking strategy is employed in the image completion model to track the areas to be repaired. The proposed approach is evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively on the dataset Places2. The result shows our approach outperforms state-of-the-art methods.

Thermal Quantum Speed Limit for Classical-Driving Open Systems

Quantum speed limit (QSL) time for open systems driven by classical fields is studied in the presence of thermal bosonic environments. The decoherence process is quantitatively described by the time-convolutionless master equation. The evolution speed of an open system is related not only to the strength of driving classical field but also to the environmental temperature. The energy-state population plays a key role in the thermal QSL. Comparing with the zero-temperature reservoir, we predict that the structural reservoir at low temperatures may contribute to the acceleration of quantum decoherence. The manifest oscillation of QSL time takes on under the circumstance of classical driving fields. We also investigate the scaling property of QSL time for multi-particle noninteracting entangled systems. It is demonstrated that entanglement of open systems can be considered as one resource for improving the potential capacity of thermal quantum speedup.

Quantum Parameter Estimation in the Unruh-DeWitt detector model

Relativistic effects on the precision of quantum metrology for particle detectors, such as two-level atoms are studied. The quantum Fisher information is used to estimate the phase sensitivity of atoms in non-inertial motions or in gravitational fields. The Unruh-DeWitt model is applicable to the investigation of the dynamics of a uniformly accelerated atom weakly coupled to a massless scalar vacuum field. When a measuring device is in the same relativistic motion as the atom, the dynamical behavior of quantum Fisher information as a function of Rindler proper time are obtained. It is found out that monotonic decrease in phase sensitivity is characteristic of dynamics of relativistic quantum estimation. To improve relativistic quantum metrology, we reasonably take into account two reflecting plane boundaries perpendicular to each other.

Quantum speed-up transition in open system dynamics

The rate of the trace distance is used to evaluate quantum speed-up for arbitrary mixed states. Compared with some present methods, the approach based on trace distance can provide an optimal bound to the speed of the evolution. The dynamical transition from no speed-up region to speed-up region takes on in the spontaneous decay of an two-level atom with detuning. The evolution is characteristic of the alternating behavior between quantum speed-up and speed-down in the strong system-reservoir coupling regime. Under the off-resonance condition, the dynamical evolution can be accelerated for short previous times and then decelerated to a normal process either in the weak or strong coupling regime. From the time-energy uncertainty relation, we demonstrate that the potential capacity for quantum speed-up evolution is closely related to the energy flow-back from the reservoir to the system. The negative decay rate for short time intervals leads to the speed-up process where the photons previously emitted by the atom are reabsorbed at a later time. The values of the spontaneous decay rate becomes positive after a long enough time, which results in the normal evolution with no speed-up potential.

Dynamics of Quantum Fisher information in a spin-boson model

Quantum Fisher information characterizes the phase sensitivity of qubits in the spin-boson model with a finite bandwidth spectrum. In contrast with Markovian reservoirs, the quantum Fisher information will flow from the environments to qubits after some times if the bath parameter $s$ is larger than a critical value which is related to temperatures. The sudden change behavior will happen during the evolution of the quantum Fisher information of the maximal entanglement state in the non-Markovian environments. The sudden change times can be varied with the change of the bath parameter $s$. For a very large number of entangled qubits, the sudden change behavior of the maximal quantum Fisher information can be used to characterize the existence of the entanglement. The metrology strategy based on the quantum correlated state leads to a lower phase uncertainty when compared to the uncorrelated product state.

Finite-temperature decoherence of spin states in a $\texttt{\{}\emph{Cu}_3\texttt{\}}$ single molecular magnet

We investigate the quantum evolution of spin states of a single molecular magnet in a local electric field. The decoherence of a $\texttt{\{}\emph{Cu}_3\texttt{\}}$ single molecular magnet weakly coupled to a thermal bosonic environment can be analyzed by the spin-boson model. Using the finite-temperature time-convolutionless quantum master equation, we obtain the analytical expression of the reduced density matrix of the system in the secular approximation. The suppressed and revived dynamical behavior of the spin states are presented by the oscillation of the chirality spin polarization on the time scale of the correlation time of the environment. The quantum decoherence can be effectively restrained with the help of the manipulation of local electric field and the environment spectral density function. Under the influence of the dissipation, the pointer states measured by the von Neumann entropy are calculated to manifest the entanglement property of the system-environment model.

Nonunital non-Markovian dynamics induced by a spin bath and interplay of quantum Fisher information

We explore the nonunital non-Markovian dynamics of a qubit immersed in a spin bath. The nonunital environmental effects on the precisions of quantum parameter estimation are investigated. The time-dependent transfer matrix and inhomogeneity vector are obtained for the description of the open dynamical process. The evolution of the coherent vectors for a qubit is studied so as to geometrically demonstrate the nonunital non-Markovian effects. The revivals of angles for the fidelity between a maximal mixed state and an arbitrary trajectory state are presented in the nonunital non-Markovian dynamics. The degree for the nonunitality is controllable with the changes of the local magnetic field for a qubit and spin bath temperature. It is found out that the increase of quantum Fisher information for composite states is connected with the nonunital non-Markovian effects, which is helpful for the improvement of quantum metrology.

Decoherence of quantum discord in an asymmetric-anisotropy spin system

The decoherence of quantum correlation is investigated in the Heisenberg spin system with the asymmetric anisotropic interactions. The quantum entanglement and discord are used to quantify the quantumness of the correlations. By the analytical and numerical methods, we find that quantum discord decays asymptotically in time under the effects of the independent local Markovian reservoirs. This is markedly different from the sudden change of the entanglement. Before the disappearance of the entanglement, the dynamic behaviour of quantum discord is very similar to that of the entanglement. It is also shown that the discord declines rapidly for the interacting spin system compared with the case of noninteracting qubits. At an arbitrary finite temperature, the nonzero thermal discord can be enhanced by the asymmetric anisotropic interactions which induce quantum fluctuations.

Dynamics of quantum discord in asymmetric and local non-Markovian environments

The non-Markovian decoherence of quantum and classical correlations is analytically obtained when two qubits are asymmetrically subjected to the bit flip channel and phase flip channel. For one class of initial mixed states, quantum correlations quantified by quantum discord decay synchronously with classical correlations. The discovery that the decaying rates of quantum and classical correlations suddenly change at the characteristic time is physically interpreted by the distance from quantum state to the closest classical states. In a large time interval, quantum correlations are greater than classical correlations. The quantum and classical correlations can be preserved over a longer period of time via the kernel characterizing the environment memory effects.

Dynamics of quantum entanglement in the reservoir with memory effects

The non-Markovian dynamics of quantum entanglement is studied by the Shabani-Lidar master equation when one of entangled quantum systems is coupled to a local reservoir with memory effects. The completely positive reduced dynamical map can be constructed in the Kraus representation. Quantum entanglement decays more slowly in the non-Markovian environment. The decoherence time for quantum entanglement can be markedly increased by the change of the memory kernel. It is found out that the entanglement sudden death between quantum systems and entanglement sudden birth between the system and reservoir occur at different instants.

Enhanced quantum teleportation in non-Markovian environments

The protocol of the teleportation of an arbitrary unknown one-qubit state is investigated when the quantum channel is subject to the decoherence from the non-Markovian environments with the memory effects. The quality of the teleportation measured by the average fidelity and minimal fidelity can be enhanced in the non-Markovian channel. The memory effects give rise to the revival of the fidelity which is better than that obtained by the Markovian channel.

Indivisible quantum evolution of a driven open spin-$S$ system

Using a recently proposed measure for divisibility of a dynamical map, we study the non-Markovian character of a quantum evolution of a driven spin-$S$ system weakly coupled to a bosonic bath. The complete tomographic knowledge about the dynamics of the open system is obtained by the time-convolutionless master equation in the secular approximation. The derived equation can be applied to a wide range of spin-boson models with the Hermitian or non-Hermitian coupling operator in the system-environment interaction Hamiltonian. Besides the influence of the environmental spectral densities, the tunneling energy of the system Hamiltonian can affect the measure of quantum non-Markovianity. It is found that the non-Markovian feature of a dynamical map of a high-dimension spin system is noticeable in contrast to that of a low-dimension spin system.

Quantum communication in the spin chain with multiplespin exchange interaction

The transmission of quantum states in the anisotropic Heisenberg XXZ chain model with three-spin exchange interaction is studied. The average fidelity is used to evaluate the state transfer. It is found out that quantum communication can be enhanced by the anisotropic coupling and multiple spin interaction. Such spin model can reduce the time required for the perfect state transmission where the fidelity is unity. The maximally entangled Bell states can be generated and separated from the whole quantum systems.

Quantum decoherence of spin states in an electric-field controllable single molecular magnet

The time evolution of low energy spin states of a single molecular magnet in a local electric field is investigated. The decoherence of the driven single molecular magnet weakly coupled to a thermal bosonic environment is analyzed by the second-order time-convolutionless non-Markovian master equation. If the characteristic time of the system is much smaller than the correlation time of the environment, the analytical expression of the reduced density matrix of the system is obtained. The non-Markovian dynamics of the spin states at low temperatures is induced by the memory effects in the decay rates. The non-Markovian oscillation of the Bloch vector is presented. The quantum decoherence can be effectively restrained with the help of the reasonable manipulation of the environment spectral density function and local electric field. The influence of the dissipation on the pointer states are investigated by the von Neumann entropy. The pointer states can be selected by the environment.

Quantum renormalization of entanglement in an antisymmetric anisotropic and bond-alternating spin system

The quantum renormalization group method is applied to study the quantum criticality and entanglement entropy of the ground state of the Ising chain in the presence of antisymmetric anisotropic couplings and alternating exchange interactions. The quantum phase transitions can be characterized by the discontinuity in the second derivative of the energy of renormalized ground state. The phase diagram is obtained by the critical boundary line. The first derivative of entanglement entropy also diverges at the same critical points after enough iterations of the renormalization of coupling constants. The antisymmetric anisotropy and alternating interaction can enhance the renormalized entanglement via the creation of quantum fluctuations. The scaling behavior of the derivative of the entropy around the critical points manifest the logarithm dependence on the size of the spin system.

Entanglement Entropy in an Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg Spin Chain with Boundary Impurities

The effects of boundary impurities on the entanglement entropy in an antiferromagnetic Heisenberg opened spin-$1/2$ chain are investigated. The method of density-matrix renormalization-group is used to obtain the bipartite entanglement. The entropy increases when the length of the subsystem increases. It will approach to a constant when system length is very large. With the same impurity interaction, qutrit impurities of spin-$1$ can increase the entanglement entropy.

Thermal decoherence of long-distance entanglement in spin-1 chains

he thermal entanglement is generated by weakly interacting atoms with an isotropic spin-1 chain. The decoherence of the entanglement is mainly investigated. The effective Hamiltonian is analytically obtained by the approximation method of perturbation. The scaling behavior of the effective coupling is numerically illustrated by the exact diagonalization. It is found out that the decay of the entanglement is slow in the case of non interacting spins. The long-distance thermal entangled states can be used as the noisy channel for the achievement of the quantum teleportation.

Entanglement in a Spin-$s$ Antiferromagnetic Heisenberg Chain

The entanglement in a general Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain of arbitrary spin-$s$ is investigated. The entanglement is witnessed by the thermal energy which equals to the minimum energy of any separable state. There is a characteristic temperature below that an entangled thermal state exists. The characteristic temperature for thermal entanglement is increased with spin $s$. When the total number of lattice is increased, the characteristic temperature decreases and then approaches a constant. This effect shows that the thermal entanglement can be detected in a real solid state system of larger number of lattices for finite temperature. The comparison of negativity and entanglement witness is obtained from the separability of the unentangled states. It is found that the thermal energy provides a sufficient condition for the existence of the thermal entanglement in a spin-$s$ antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain.
