Observation of the $π^2σ^2$-bond linear-chain molecular structure in $^{16}$C

Measurements of the $^2$H($^{16}$C,$^{16}$C$^{*}$$\rightarrow^4$He+$^{12}$Be or $^6$He+$^{10}$Be)$^2$H inelastic excitation and cluster-decay reactions have been carried out at a beam energy of about 23.5 MeV/u. A specially designed detection system, including one multi-layer silicon-strip telescope at around zero degrees, has allowed the high-efficiency three-fold coincident detection and therefore the event-by-event determination of the energy of the unstable nucleus beam. The decay paths from the $^{16}$C resonances to various states of the final $^{10}$Be or $^{12}$Be nucleus are recognized thanks to the well-resolved $Q$-value spectra. The reconstructed resonances at 16.5(1), 17.3(2), 19.4(1) and 21.6(2) MeV are assigned as the $0^+$, $2^+$, $4^+$ and $6^+$ members, respectively, of the positive-parity $(3/2_π^-)^2(1/2_σ^-)^2$-bond linear-chain molecular band in $^{16}$C, based on the angular correlation analysis for the 16.5 MeV state and the excellent agreement of decay patterns between the measurements and theoretical predictions. Moreover, another intriguing high-lying state was observed at 27.2(1) MeV which decays almost exclusively to the $\sim$6 MeV states of $^{10}$Be, in line with the newly predicted pure $σ$-bond linear-chain configuration.

Evidence for $Z_{c}^{\pm}$ decays into the $ρ^{\pm} η_{c}$ final state

We study $e^{+}e^{-}$ collisions with a $π^{+}π^{-}π^{0}η_{c}$ final state using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}=4.226$, $4.258$, $4.358$, $4.416$, and $4.600$ GeV. Evidence for the decay $\zcpm\to\rhopm\etac$ is reported with a statistical significance of $3.9σ$ with various systematic uncertainties taken into account at $\sqrt{s} = 4.226$ GeV, and the Born cross section times branching fraction $σ^{B}(\EE\to \pimp\zcpm)\times \BR(\zcpm\to\rhopm\etac)$ is measured to be $(48 \pm 11 \pm 11)\,\rm{pb}$. The $\zcpm\to \rhopm\etac$ signal is not significant at the other center-of-mass energies and the corresponding upper limits are determined. In addition, no significant signal is observed in a search for $\zcppm\to ρ^{\pm}\etac$ with the same data samples. The ratios $R_{\zc}=\BR(\zcpm\to ρ^{\pm} \etac)/\BR(\zcpm\to π^{\pm} \jpsi)$ and $R_{\zcp}=\BR(\zcppm\to ρ^{\pm} \etac)/\BR(\zcppm\to π^{\pm} \hc)$ are obtained and used to discriminate between different theoretical interpretations of the $\zcpm$ and $\zcppm$.

Analysis of the decay $D^0\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} K^{+} K^{-}$

Using a data sample of $2.93~fb^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collisions collected at $\sqrt{s}=3.773 GeV$ in the BESIII experiment, we perform an analysis of the decay $D^0\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} K^{+} K^{-}$. The Dalitz plot is analyzed using $1856\pm 45$ flavor-tagged signal decays. We find that the Dalitz plot is well described by a set of six resonances: $a_0(980)^0$, $a_0(980)^+$, $ϕ(1020)$, $a_2(1320)^+$, $a_2(1320)^-$ and $a_0(1450)^-$. Their magnitudes, phases and fit fractions are determined as well as the coupling of $a_0(980)$ to $K\bar{K}$, $g_{K\bar{K}}=3.77\pm 0.24\text{(stat.)}\pm0.35\text{(sys.)} GeV$. The branching fraction of the decay $D^0\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} K^{+} K^{-}$ is measured using $11660\pm 118$ untagged signal decays to be $(4.51\pm 0.05\text{(stat.)}\pm 0.16\text{(sys.)})10^{-3}$. Both measurements are limited by their systematic uncertainties.

Cross section measurement of $e^+e^- \rightarrow η'J/ψ$ from $\sqrt{s} = 4.178$ to $4.600$ GeV

The cross section of the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow η'J/ψ$ is measured at center-of-mass energies from $\sqrt{s} =$ 4.178 to 4.600 GeV using data samples corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 11 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. The dependence of the cross section on $\sqrt{s}$ shows an enhancement around $4.2$ GeV. While the shape of the cross section cannot be fully explained with a single $ψ(4160)$ or $ψ(4260)$ state, a coherent sum of the two states does provide a reasonable description of the data.

Determination of strong-phase parameters in $D\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^-$

We report the most precise measurements to date of the strong-phase parameters between $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0$ decays to $K^0_{S,L}π^+π^-$ using a sample of 2.93 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. Our results provide the key inputs for a binned model-independent determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle $γ/ϕ_3$ with $B$ decays. Using our results, the decay model sensitivity to the $γ/ϕ_3$ measurement is expected to be between 0.7$^{\circ}$ and 1.2$^{\circ}$, approximately a factor of three smaller than that achievable with previous measurements. The improved precision of this work ensures that measurements of $γ/ϕ_3$ will not be limited by knowledge of strong phases for the next decade. Furthermore, our results provide critical input for other flavor-physics investigations, including charm mixing, other measurements of $CP$ violation, and the measurement of strong-phase parameters for other $D$-decay modes.

Determination of the cluster-decay branching ratio from a near-threshold molecular state in $^{10}$Be

A puzzle has long existed for the $α$-cluster content in the near-threshold 7.54 MeV state of $^{10}$Be. A new measurement was conducted to measure the cluster-decay partial width of this state, using the reaction $\rm{^9Be}(\rm{^9Be}, \rm{^{10}Be}^{*} \rightarrow α+ \rm{^6He})\rm{^8Be}$ at 45 MeV beam energy. Special measures were taken to reduce the strong near-threshold background. The neutron-decay strength was also obtained based on the three-fold coincident measurement. A cluster-decay branching ratio of $(4.04 \pm 1.26)\times 10^{-4}$ is obtained, resulting in a reasonably large $α$-cluster spectroscopic factor. The present work confirms the formation of the $σ$-bond molecular rotational band headed by the 6.18 MeV state in $^{10}$Be.

Future Physics Programme of BESIII

There has recently been a dramatic renewal of interest in the subjects of hadron spectroscopy and charm physics. This renaissance has been driven in part by the discovery of a plethora of charmonium-like $XYZ$ states at BESIII and $B$ factories, and the observation of an intriguing proton-antiproton threshold enhancement and the possibly related $X(1835)$ meson state at BESIII, as well as the threshold measurements of charm mesons and charm baryons. We present a detailed survey of the important topics in tau-charm physics and hadron physics that can be further explored at BESIII over the remaining lifetime of BEPCII operation. This survey will help in the optimization of the data-taking plan over the coming years, and provides physics motivation for the possible upgrade of BEPCII to higher luminosity.

Measurement of {\boldmath $J/ψ\toΞ(1530)^{-}\barΞ^{+}$} and evidence for the radiative decay {\boldmath $Ξ(1530)^{-}\toγΞ^-$}

The SU(3)-flavor violating decay $J/ψ\toΞ(1530)^{-}\barΞ^{+}+c.c.$ is studied using $(1310.6\pm7.0)\times 10^{6} ~J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII and the branching fraction is measured to be ${\cal{B}}(J/ψ\toΞ(1530)^{-}\barΞ^{+}+c.c.)=(3.17\pm0.02_{\rm stat.}\pm0.08_{\rm syst.})\times10^{-4}$. This is consistent with previous measurements with an improved precision. The angular parameter for this decay is measured for the first time and is found to be $α=-0.21\pm0.04_{\rm stat.}\pm0.06_{\rm syst.}$. In addition, we report evidence for the radiative decay $Ξ(1530)^{-}\toγΞ^- $ with a significance of 3.9$σ$, including the systematic uncertainties. The 90\% confidence level upper limit on the branching fraction is determined to be $\mathcal{B}(Ξ(1530)^{-}\toγΞ^- )\leq3.7$\%.

Measurement of proton electromagnetic form factors in $e^+e^- \to p\bar{p}$ in the energy region 2.00-3.08 GeV

The process of $e^+e^- \rightarrow p\bar{p}$ is studied at 22 center-of-mass energy points ($\sqrt{s}$) from 2.00 to 3.08 GeV, exploiting 688.5~pb$^{-1}$ of data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross section~($σ_{p\bar{p}}$) of $e^+e^- \rightarrow p\bar{p}$ is measured with the energy-scan technique and it is found to be consistent with previously published data, but with much improved accuracy. In addition, the electromagnetic form-factor ratio ($|G_{E}/G_{M}|$) and the value of the effective ($|G_{\rm{eff}}|$), electric ($|G_E|$) and magnetic ($|G_M|$) form factors are measured by studying the helicity angle of the proton at 16 center-of-mass energy points. $|G_{E}/G_{M}|$ and $|G_M|$ are determined with high accuracy, providing uncertainties comparable to data in the space-like region, and $|G_E|$ is measured for the first time. We reach unprecedented accuracy, and precision results in the time-like region provide information to improve our understanding of the proton inner structure and to test theoretical models which depend on non-perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics.

Measurement of the cross section for $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+}$ and observation of an excited $Ξ$ baryon

Using a total of 11.0 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data with center-of-mass energies between 4.009 GeV and 4.6 GeV and collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, we measure fifteen exclusive cross sections and effective form factors for the process $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+}$ by means of a single baryon-tag method. After performing a fit to the dressed cross section of $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+}$, no significant $ψ(4230)$ or $ψ(4260)$ resonance is observed in the $Ξ^{-}\barΞ^{+}$ final states, and upper limits at the 90\% confidence level on $Γ_{ee}\mathcal{B}$ for the processes $ψ(4230)$/$ψ(4260)\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+}$ are determined. In addition, an excited $Ξ$ baryon at 1820 MeV/$c^{2}$ is observed with a statistical significance of 6.2 $\sim$ 6.5$σ$ by including the systematic uncertainty, and the mass and width are measured to be $M = (1825.5 \pm 4.7 \pm 4.7)$~MeV/$c^{2}$ and $Γ= (17.0 \pm 15.0 \pm 7.9)$~MeV, which confirms the existence of the $J^{P}=\frac{3}{2}^{-}$ state $Ξ(1820)$.

Model-independent determination of the relative strong-phase difference between $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^-$ and its impact on the measurement of the CKM angle $γ/ϕ_3$

Crucial inputs for a variety of $CP$-violation studies can be determined through the analysis of pairs of quantum-entangled neutral $D$ mesons, which are produced in the decay of the $ψ(3770)$ resonance. The relative strong-phase parameters between $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0$ in the decays $D^0\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^-$ are studied using 2.93~${\rm fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data delivered by the BEPCII collider and collected by the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV. Results are presented in regions of the phase space of the decay. These are the most precise measurements to date of the strong-phase parameters in $D \to K_{S,L}^0π^+π^-$ decays. Using these parameters, the associated uncertainty on the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle $γ/ϕ_3$ is expected to be between $0.7^\circ$ and $1.2^\circ$, for an analysis using the decay $B^{\pm}\rightarrow DK^{\pm}$, $D\rightarrow K^0_Sπ^+π^-$, where $D$ represents a superposition of $D^0$ and $\bar{D^0}$ states. This is a factor of three smaller than that achievable with previous measurements. Furthermore, these results provide valuable input for charm-mixing studies, other measurements of $CP$ violation, and the measurement of strong-phase parameters for other $D$-decay modes.

Observation of a cross-section enhancement near mass threshold in $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΛ\barΛ$

The process $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΛ\barΛ$ is studied using data samples at $\sqrt{s}=2.2324$, 2.400, 2.800 and 3.080 GeV collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross section is measured at $\sqrt{s}$=2.2324 GeV, which is 1.0 MeV above the $Λ\barΛ$ mass threshold, to be $305\pm45^{+66}_{-36}$ pb, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The substantial cross section near threshold is significantly larger than that expected from theory, which predicts the cross section to vanish at threshold. The Born cross sections at $\sqrt{s}$=2.400, 2.800 and 3.080 GeV are measured and found to be consistent with previous experimental results, but with improved precision. Finally, the corresponding effective electromagnetic form factors of $Λ$ are deduced.

Partial wave analysis of $ψ(3686)\rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}η$

Using a sample of $(448.1\pm2.9)\times10^6$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform the first partial wave analysis of $ψ(3686)\rightarrow K^+K^-η$. In addition to the well established states, $ϕ(1020)$, $ϕ(1680)$, and $K_3^*(1780)$, contributions from $X(1750)$, $ρ(2150)$, $ρ_3(2250)$, and $K^*_2(1980)$ are also observed. The $X(1750)$ state is determined to be a $1^{--}$ resonance. The simultaneous observation of the $ϕ(1680)$ and $X(1750)$ indicates that the $X(1750)$, with previous observations in photoproduction, is distinct from the $ϕ(1680)$. The masses, widths, branching fractions of $ψ(3686)\rightarrow K^+K^-η$ and the intermediate resonances are also measured.

Positive-parity linear-chain molecular band in $^{16}$C

An inelastic excitation and cluster-decay experiment $\rm {^2H}(^{16}C,~{^{4}He}+{^{12}Be}~or~{^{6}He}+{^{10}Be}){^2H}$ was carried out to investigate the linear-chain clustering structure in neutron-rich $\rm {^{16}C}$. For the first time, decay-paths from the $\rm {^{16}C}$ resonances to various states of the final nuclei were determined, thanks to the well-resolved $Q$-value spectra obtained from the three-fold coincident measurement. The close-threshold resonance at 16.5 MeV is assigned as the ${J^π}={0^+}$ band head of the predicted positive-parity linear-chain molecular band with ${(3/2_π^-)^2}{(1/2_σ^-)^2}$ configuration, according to the associated angular correlation and decay analysis. Other members of this band were found at 17.3, 19.4, and 21.6 MeV based on their selective decay properties, being consistent with the theoretical predictions. Another intriguing high-lying state was observed at 27.2 MeV which decays almost exclusively to $\rm {^{6}He}+{^{10}Be{(\sim6~ MeV)}}$ final channel, corresponding well to another predicted linear-chain structure with the pure $σ$-bond configuration.

Study of $e^{+}e^{-} \to D^{+} D^{-} π^{+} π^{-} $ at center-of-mass energies from 4.36 to 4.60 GeV

We report a study of the $e^{+}e^{-} \to D^{+} D^{-} π^{+} π^{-}$ process using $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data samples with an integrated luminosity of $2.5\,\rm{fb}^{-1}$ at center-of-mass energies from 4.36 to $4.60 \rm{GeV}$, collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. The $D_{1}(2420)^+$ is observed in the $D^{+} π^{+} π^{-}$ mass spectrum. The mass and width of the $D_{1}(2420)^+$ are measured to be $(2427.2\pm 1.0_{\rm stat.}\pm 1.2_{\rm syst.}) \rm{MeV}/c^2$ and $(23.2\pm 2.3_{\rm stat.} \pm2.3_{\rm syst.}) \rm{MeV}$, respectively. The first errors are statistical and the second ones are systematic. In addition, the Born cross sections of the $e^{+}e^{-} \to D_{1}(2420)^+D^- + c.c. \to D^{+} D^{-} π^{+} π^{-}$ and $e^{+}e^{-} \to ψ(3770) π^{+} π^{-} \to D^{+} D^{-} π^{+} π^{-}$ processes are measured as a function of the center-of-mass energy.

Observation of the decays $χ_{cJ} \to ϕϕη$

Using a data sample of $(448.1\pm2.9)\times10^{6}$ $ψ(3686)$ decays collected by the BESIII detector at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPCII), we observe the decays $χ_{cJ}\to ϕϕη~(J=0,~1,~2)$, where the $χ_{cJ}$ are produced via the radiative processes $ψ(3686)\toγχ_{cJ}$. The branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal B(χ_{c0}\toϕϕη)=(8.41\pm0.74\pm0.62)\times10^{-4}$, $\mathcal B(χ_{c1}\toϕϕη)=(2.96\pm0.43\pm0.22)\times 10^{-4}$, and $\mathcal B(χ_{c2} \to ϕϕη)=(5.33\pm0.52\pm0.39) \times 10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. We also search for intermediate states in the $ϕϕ$ or $ηϕ$ combinations, but no significant structure is seen due to the limited statistics.

No significant $η'$ signal is observed in the invariant mass spectrum of 4$π^{0}$. With a Bayesian approach, the upper limit on the branching fraction of $η'\rightarrow 4π^{0}$ is determined to be $\mathcal{B}(η'\rightarrow 4π^{0})$ $< 4.94\times10^{-5}$ at the 90\% confidence level, which is a factor of six smaller than the previous experimental limit.

Cluster Decay of the High-lying excited states in $^{14}$C

A cluster-transfer experiment of $^9\rm{Be}(^9\rm{Be},^{14}\rm{C}\rightarrowα+^{10}\rm{Be})α$ at an incident energy of 45 MeV was carried out in order to investigate the molecular structure in high-lying resonant states in $^{14}$C. This reaction is of extremely large $Q$-value, making it an excellent case to select the reaction mechanism and the final states in outgoing nuclei. The high-lying resonances in $^{14}$C are reconstructed for three sets of well discriminated final states in $^{10}$Be. The results confirm the previous decay measurements with clearly improved decay-channel selections and show also a new state at 23.5(1) MeV. The resonant states at 22.4(3) and 24.0(3) MeV decay primarily into the typical molecular states at about 6 MeV in $^{10}$Be, indicating a well developed cluster structure in these high-lying states in $^{14}$C. Further measurements of more states of this kind are suggested.

Improved measurement of the absolute branching fraction of $D^{+}\rightarrow \bar K^0 μ^{+}ν_μ$

By analyzing 2.93 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected at $\sqrt s=3.773$ GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the absolute branching fraction ${\mathcal B}(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0μ^{+}ν_μ)=(8.72 \pm 0.07_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.18_{\rm sys.})\%$, which is consistent with previous measurements within uncertainties but with significantly improved precision. Combining the Particle Data Group values of ${\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^-μ^+ν_μ)$, ${\mathcal B}(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 e^{+}ν_{e})$, and the lifetimes of the $D^0$ and $D^+$ mesons with the value of ${\mathcal B}(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 μ^{+}ν_μ)$ measured in this work, we determine the following ratios of partial widths: $Γ(D^0\to K^-μ^+ν_μ)/Γ(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0μ^{+}ν_μ)=0.963\pm0.044$ and $Γ(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 μ^{+}ν_μ)/Γ(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 e^{+}ν_{e})=0.988\pm0.033$.

Low frequency observations of linearly polarized structures in the interstellar medium near the south Galactic pole

We present deep polarimetric observations at 154 MHz with the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA), covering 625 deg^2 centered on RA=0 h, Dec=-27 deg. The sensitivity available in our deep observations allows an in-band, frequency-dependent analysis of polarized structure for the first time at long wavelengths. Our analysis suggests that the polarized structures are dominated by intrinsic emission but may also have a foreground Faraday screen component. At these wavelengths, the compactness of the MWA baseline distribution provides excellent snapshot sensitivity to large-scale structure. The observations are sensitive to diffuse polarized emission at ~54' resolution with a sensitivity of 5.9 mJy beam^-1 and compact polarized sources at ~2.4' resolution with a sensitivity of 2.3 mJy beam^-1 for a subset (400 deg^2) of this field. The sensitivity allows the effect of ionospheric Faraday rotation to be spatially and temporally measured directly from the diffuse polarized background. Our observations reveal large-scale structures (~1 deg - 8 deg in extent) in linear polarization clearly detectable in ~2 minute snapshots, which would remain undetectable by interferometers with minimum baseline lengths >110 m at 154 MHz. The brightness temperature of these structures is on average 4 K in polarized intensity, peaking at 11 K. Rotation measure synthesis reveals that the structures have Faraday depths ranging from -2 rad m^-2 to 10 rad m^-2 with a large fraction peaking at ~+1 rad m^-2. We estimate a distance of 51+/-20 pc to the polarized emission based on measurements of the in-field pulsar J2330-2005. We detect four extragalactic linearly polarized point sources within the field in our compact source survey. Based on the known polarized source population at 1.4 GHz and non-detections at 154 MHz, we estimate an upper limit on the depolarization ratio of 0.08 from 1.4 GHz to 154 MHz.

Measurement of the $D_s^+ \to \ell^+ν_\ell$ branching fractions and the decay constant $f_{D_s^+}$

Using 482~pb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 4.009$ GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the branching fractions of the decays $D_s^+\toμ^+ν_μ$ and $D_s^+\toτ^+ν_τ$. By constraining the ratio of decay rates of $D_s^+$ to $τ^+ν_τ$ and to $μ^+ν_μ$ to the Standard Model prediction, the branching fractions are determined to be $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to μ^+ν_μ) = (0.495 \pm 0.067 \pm 0.026)\%$ and $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to τ^+ν_τ) = (4.83 \pm 0.65 \pm 0.26)\%$. Using these branching fractions, we obtain a value for the decay constant $f_{D_s^+}$ of $(241.0 \pm 16.3 \pm 6.5)~\text{MeV}$, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic.

Observation of an anomalous line shape of the $η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}$ mass spectrum near the $p\bar{p}$ mass threshold in $J/ψ\rightarrowγη^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}$

Using $1.09\times10^{9}$ $J/ψ$ events collected by the BESIII experiment in 2012, we study the $J/ψ\rightarrowγη^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}$ process and observe a significant abrupt change in the slope of the $η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}$ invariant mass distribution at the proton-antiproton ($p\bar{p}$) mass threshold. We use two models to characterize the $η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}$ line shape around $1.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2}$: one which explicitly incorporates the opening of a decay threshold in the mass spectrum (Flatté formula), and another which is the coherent sum of two resonant amplitudes. Both fits show almost equally good agreement with data, and suggest the existence of either a broad state around $1.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2}$ with strong couplings to $p\bar{p}$ final states or a narrow state just below the $p\bar{p}$ mass threshold. Although we cannot distinguish between the fits, either one supports the existence of a $p\bar{p}$ molecule-like state or bound state with greater than $7σ$ significance.

We present an analysis of the decay $D^{+} \to K^{-} π^+ e^+ ν_e$ based on data collected by the BESIII experiment at the $ψ(3770)$ resonance. Using a nearly background-free sample of 18262 events, we measure the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(D^{+} \to K^{-} π^+ e^+ ν_e) = (3.71 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.08)\%$. For $0.8<m_{Kπ}<1.0$ GeV/$c^{2}$ the partial branching fraction is $\mathcal{B}(D^{+} \to K^{-} π^+ e^+ ν_e)_{[0.8,1]} = (3.33 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.07)\%$. A partial wave analysis shows that the dominant $\bar K^{*}(892)^{0}$ component is accompanied by an \emph{S}-wave contribution accounting for $(6.05\pm0.22\pm0.18)\%$ of the total rate and that other components are negligible. The parameters of the $\bar K^{*}(892)^{0}$ resonance and of the form factors based on the spectroscopic pole dominance predictions are also measured. We also present a measurement of the $\bar K^{*}(892)^{0}$ helicity basis form factors in a model-independent way.

A radio-polarisation and rotation measure study of the Gum Nebula and its environment

The Gum Nebula is 36 degree wide shell-like emission nebula at a distance of only 450 pc. It has been hypothesised to be an old supernova remnant, fossil HII region, wind-blown bubble, or combination of multiple objects. Here we investigate the magneto-ionic properties of the nebula using data from recent surveys: radio-continuum data from the NRAO VLA and S-band Parkes All Sky Surveys, and H-alpha data from the Southern H-Alpha Sky Survey Atlas. We model the upper part of the nebula as a spherical shell of ionised gas expanding into the ambient medium. We perform a maximum-likelihood Markov chain Monte-Carlo fit to the NVSS rotation measure data, using the H-halpha data to constrain average electron density in the shell $n_e$. Assuming a latitudinal background gradient in RM we find $n_e=1.3^{+0.4}_{-0.4} {\rm cm}^{-3}$, angular radius $ϕ_{\rm outer}=22.7^{+0.1}_{-0.1} {\rm deg}$, shell thickness $dr=18.5^{+1.5}_{-1.4} {\rm pc}$, ambient magnetic field strength $B_0=3.9^{+4.9}_{-2.2} μ{\rm G}$ and warm gas filling factor $f=0.3^{+0.3}_{-0.1}$. We constrain the local, small-scale (~260 pc) pitch-angle of the ordered Galactic magnetic field to $+7^{\circ}\lesssim\wp\lesssim+44^{\circ}$, which represents a significant deviation from the median field orientation on kiloparsec scales (~-7.2$^{\circ}$). The moderate compression factor $X=6.0\,^{+5.1}_{-2.5}$ at the edge of the H-alpha shell implies that the 'old supernova remnant' origin is unlikely. Our results support a model of the nebula as a HII region around a wind-blown bubble. Analysis of depolarisation in 2.3 GHz S-PASS data is consistent with this hypothesis and our best-fitting values agree well with previous studies of interstellar bubbles.

Faraday Tomography of the North Polar Spur: Constraints on the distance to the Spur and on the Magnetic Field of the Galaxy

We present radio continuum and polarization images of the North Polar Spur (NPS) from the Global Magneto-Ionic Medium Survey (GMIMS) conducted with the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory 26-m Telescope. We fit polarization angle versus wavelength squared over 2048 frequency channels from 1280 to 1750 MHz to obtain a Faraday Rotation Measure (RM) map of the NPS. Combining this RM map with a published Faraday depth map of the entire Galaxy in this direction, we derive the Faraday depth introduced by the NPS and the Galactic interstellar medium (ISM) in front of and behind the NPS. The Faraday depth contributed by the NPS is close to zero, indicating that the NPS is an emitting only feature. The Faraday depth caused by the ISM in front of the NPS is consistent with zero at b>50 degree, implying that this part of the NPS is local at a distance of approximately several hundred parsecs. The Faraday depth contributed by the ISM behind the NPS gradually increases with Galactic latitude up to b=44 degree, and decreases at higher Galactic latitudes. This implies that either the part of the NPS at b<44 degree is distant or the NPS is local but there is a sign change of the large-scale magnetic field. If the NPS is local, there is then no evidence for a large-scale anti-symmetry pattern in the Faraday depth of the Milky Way. The Faraday depth introduced by the ISM behind the NPS at latitudes b>50 degree can be explained by including a coherent vertical magnetic field.

Observation of the Singly Cabibbo-Suppressed Decay $D^{+}\toωπ^{+}$ and Evidence for $D^{0}\toωπ^{0}$

Based on 2.93 fb$^{-1}$ $e^+e^-$ collision data taken at center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV by the BESIII detector, we report searches for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays $D^{+}\toωπ^{+}$ and $D^{0}\toωπ^{0}$. A double tag technique is used to measure the absolute branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(D^{+}\toωπ^{+})=(2.79\pm0.57\pm0.16)\times 10^{-4}$ and $\mathcal{B}(D^{0}\toωπ^{0})=(1.17\pm0.34\pm0.07)\times 10^{-4}$, with statistical significances of $5.5σ$ and $4.1σ$, respectively. We also present measurements of the absolute branching fractions for the related $ηπ$ decay modes. We find $\mathcal{B}(D^{+}\toηπ^{+})=(3.07\pm0.22\pm0.13)\times10^{-3}$ and $\mathcal{B}(D^{0}\toηπ^{0})=(0.65\pm0.09\pm0.04)\times10^{-3}$, which are consistent with the current world averages. The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

Comparison of algorithms for determination of rotation measure and Faraday structure I. 1100 - 1400 MHz

(abridged) We run a Faraday structure determination data challenge to benchmark the currently available algorithms including Faraday synthesis (previously called RM synthesis in the literature), wavelet, compressive sampling and $QU$-fitting. The frequency set is similar to POSSUM/GALFACTS with a 300 MHz bandwidth from 1.1 to 1.4 GHz. We define three figures of merit motivated by the underlying science: a) an average RM weighted by polarized intensity, RMwtd, b) the separation $Δϕ$ of two Faraday components and c) the reduced chi-squared. Based on the current test data of signal to noise ratio of about 32, we find that: (1) When only one Faraday thin component is present, most methods perform as expected, with occasional failures where two components are incorrectly found; (2) For two Faraday thin components, QU-fitting routines perform the best, with errors close to the theoretical ones for RMwtd, but with significantly higher errors for $Δϕ$. All other methods including standard Faraday synthesis frequently identify only one component when $Δϕ$ is below or near the width of the Faraday point spread function; (3) No methods, as currently implemented, work well for Faraday thick components due to the narrow bandwidth; (4) There exist combinations of two Faraday components which produce a large range of acceptable fits and hence large uncertainties in the derived single RMs; in these cases, different RMs lead to the same Q, U behavior, so no method can recover a unique input model.

Radio polarization observations of large supernova remnants at 6cm

We have observed 79 supernova remnants (SNRs) with the Urumqi 25m telescope at 6cm during the Sino-German 6cm polarization survey of the Galactic plane. We measured flux densities of SNRs at 6cm, some of which are the first ever measured or the measurements at the highest frequency, so that we can determine or improve spectra of SNRs. Our observations have ruled out spectral breaks or spectral flattening that were suggested for a few SNRs, and confirmed the spectral break of S147. By combining our 6cm maps with 11cm and 21cm maps from the Effelsberg 100 m telescope, we calculated the spectral index maps of several large SNRs. For many remnants we obtained for the first time polarization images, which show the intrinsic magnetic field structures at 6cm. We disapproved three objects as being SNRs, OA184, G192.8-1.1 and G16.8-1.1, which show a thermal spectrum and no polarization. We have discovered two large supernova remnants, G178.2-4.2 and G25.1-2.3., in the survey maps.

A Sino-German 6cm polarisation survey of the Galactic plane - VIII. Small-diameter sources

Information of small-diameter sources is extracted from the Sino-German 6cm polarisation survey of the Galactic plane carried out with the Urumqi 25-m telescope. We performed two-dimensional elliptical Gaussian fits to the 6cm maps to obtain a list of sources with total-intensity and polarised flux densities. The source list contains 3832 sources with a fitted diameter smaller than 16 arcmin and a peak flux density exceeding 30 mJy, so about 5 times the rms noise, of the total-intensity data. The cumulative source count indicates completeness for flux densities exceeding about 60 mJy. We identify 125 linearly polarised sources at 6cm with a peak polarisation flux density greater than 10 mJy, so about 3 times the rms noise, of the polarised-intensity data. Despite lacking compact steep spectrum sources, the 6cm catalogue lists about 20 percent more sources than the Effelsberg 21cm source catalogue at the same angular resolution and for the same area. Most of the faint 6cm sources must have a flat spectrum and are either HII regions or extragalactic. When compared with the Green Bank 6cm (GB6) catalogue, we obtain higher flux densities for a number of extended sources with complex structures. Polarised 6cm sources density are uniformly distributed in Galactic latitude. Their number density decreases towards the inner Galaxy. More than 80 percent of the polarised sources are most likely extragalactic. With a few exceptions, the sources have a higher percentage polarisation at 6cm than at 21cm. Depolarisation seems to occur mostly within the sources with a minor contribution from the Galactic foreground emission.

Absolutely calibrated radio polarimetry of the inner Galaxy at 2.3 GHz and 4.8 GHz

We present high sensitivity and absolutely calibrated images of diffuse radio polarisation at a resolution of about 10 arcmin covering the range 10 degr <l<34 degr and |b|<5 degr at 2.3 GHz from the S-band Parkes All Sky Survey and at 4.8 GHz from the Sino-German 6 cm polarisation survey of the Galactic plane. Strong depolarisation near the Galactic plane is seen at 2.3 GHz, which correlates with strong Halpha emission. We ascribe the depolarisation to spatial Faraday rotation measure fluctuations of about 65 rad/m2 on scales smaller than 6-9 pc. We argue that most (about 90%) of the polarised emission seen at 4.8 GHz originates from a distance of 3-4 kpc in the Scutum arm and that the random magnetic field dominates the regular field there. A branch extending from the North Polar Spur towards lower latitudes can be identified from the polarisation image at 4.8 GHz but only partly from the polarised image at 2.3 GHz, implying the branch is at a distance larger than 2-3 kpc. We show that comparison of structure functions of complex polarised intensity with those of polarised intensity can indicate whether the observed polarised structures are intrinsic or caused by Faraday screens. The probability distribution function of gradients from the polarisation images at 2.3 GHz indicates the turbulence in the warm ionised medium is transonic.

Discovery of supernova remnants in the Sino-German 6cm polarization survey of the Galactic plane

The Sino-German 6cm polarization survey has mapped in total intensity and polarization intensity over an area of approximately 2200 square degrees in the Galactic disk. This survey provides an opportunity to search for Galactic supernova remnants (SNRs) that were previously unknown. We discovered the new SNRs G178.2-4.2 and G25.1-2.3 which have non-thermal spectra, using the 6cm data together with the observations with the Effelsberg telescope at 11 cm and 21 cm. Both G178.2-4.2 and G25.1-2.3 are faint and have an apparent diameter greater than 1deg. G178.2-4.2 shows a polarized shell. HI data suggest that G25.1-2.3 might have a distance of about 3 kpc. The 6cm survey data were also very important to identify two other new SNRs, G152.4-2.1 and G190.9-2.2.

Polarisation properties of Milky-Way-like galaxies

(Abridged) We study the polarisation properties, magnetic field strength, and synchrotron emission scale-height of Milky-Way-like galaxies in comparison with other spiral galaxies. We use our 3D-emission model of the Milky Way Galaxy for viewing the Milky Way from outside at various inclinations as spiral galaxies are observed. When seen edge-on the synchrotron emission from the Milky Way has an exponential scale-height of about 0.74 kpc, which is much smaller than the values obtained from previous models. We find that current analysis methods overestimate the scale-height of synchrotron emission of galaxies by about 10% at an inclination of 80 degree and about 40% at an inclination of 70 degree because of contamination from the disk. The observed RMs for face-on galaxies derived from high-frequency polarisation measurements approximate to the Faraday depths (FDs) when scaled by a factor of two. For edge-on galaxies, the observed RMs are indicative of the orientation of the large-scale magnetic field, but are not well related with the FDs. Assuming energy equipartition between the magnetic field and particles for the Milky Way results in an average magnetic-field strength, which is about two times larger than the intrinsic value for a K factor of 100. The number distribution of the integrated polarisation percentages of a large sample of unresolved Milky-Way-like galaxies peaks at about 4.2% at 4.8 GHz and at about 0.8% at 1.4GHz. Integrated polarisation angles rotated by 90 degree align very well with the position angles of the major axes, implying that unresolved galaxies do not have intrinsic RMs.

The sino-german 6cm polarization survey of the galactic plane: A summary

We have finished the 6cm polarization survey of the Galactic plane using the Urumqi 25m radio telescope. It covers 10deg<l<230deg in Galactic longitude and |b| <5deg in Galactic latitude. The new polarization maps not only reveal new properties of the diffuse magnetized interstellar medium, but also are very useful for studying individual objects such as Hii regions, which may act as Faraday screens with strong regular magnetic fields inside, and supernova remnants for their polarization properties and spectra. The high sensitivity of the survey enables us to discover two new SNRs G178.2-4.2 and G25.3-2.1 and a number of Hii regions.

A Sino-German $λ$6\ cm polarization survey of the Galactic plane VI. Discovery of supernova remnants G178.2-4.2 and G25.1-2.3

Supernova remnants (SNRs) were often discovered in radio surveys of the Galactic plane. Because of the surface-brightness limit of previous surveys, more faint or confused SNRs await discovery. The Sino-German $λ$6\ cm Galactic plane survey is a sensitive survey with the potential to detect new low surface-brightness SNRs. We want to identify new SNRs from the $λ$6\ cm survey map of the Galactic plane. We searched for new shell-like objects in the $λ$6\ cm survey maps, and studied their radio emission, polarization, and spectra using the $λ$6\ cm maps together with the $λ$11\ cm and $λ$21\ cm Effelsberg observations. Extended polarized objects with non-thermal spectra were identified as SNRs. We have discovered two new, large, faint SNRs, G178.2-4.2 and G25.1-2.3, both of which show shell structure. G178.2-4.2 has a size of 72 arcmin x 62 arcmin with strongly polarized emission being detected along its northern shell. The spectrum of G178.2-4.2 is non-thermal, with an integrated spectral index of $α= -0.48\pm0.13$. Its surface brightness is $Σ_{1 GHz} = 7.2 x 10^{-23}{Wm^{-2} Hz^{-1} sr^{-1}}$, which makes G178.2-4.2 the second faintest known Galactic SNR. G25.1-2.3 is revealed by its strong southern shell which has a size of 80 arcmin x 30\arcmin. It has a non-thermal radio spectrum with a spectral index of $α= -0.49\pm0.13$. Two new large shell-type SNRs have been detected at $λ$6\ cm in an area of 2200 deg^2 along the the Galactic plane. This demonstrates that more large and faint SNRs exist, but are very difficult to detect.

A Sino-German $λ$6\ cm polarization survey of the Galactic plane. V. Large supernova remnants

Observations of large supernova remnants (SNRs) at high frequencies are rare, but provide valuable information about their physical properties. The total intensity and polarization properties of 16 large SNRs in the Galactic plane were investigated based on observations of the Urumqi $λ$6\ cm polarization survey of the Galactic plane with an angular resolution of 9$\farcm$5. We extracted total intensity and linear polarization maps of large SNRs from the Urumqi $λ$6\ cm survey, obtained their integrated flux densities, and derived the radio spectra in context with previously published flux densities at various frequencies. In particular, Effelsberg $λ$11\ cm and $λ$21\ cm survey data were used for calculating integrated flux densities. The $λ$6\ cm polarization data also delineate the magnetic field structures of the SNRs. We present the first total intensity maps at $λ$6\ cm for SNRs G106.3+2.7, G114.3+0.3, G116.5+1.1, G166.0+4.3 (VRO 42.05.01), G205.5+0.5 (Monoceros Nebula) and G206.9+2.3 (PKS 0646+06) and the first polarization measurements at $λ$6\ cm for SNRs G82.2+5.3 (W63), G106.3+2.7, G114.3+0.3, G116.5+1.1, G166.0+4.3 (VRO 42.05.01), G205.5+0.5 (Monoceros Nebula) and G206.9+2.3 (PKS 0646+06). Most of the newly derived integrated radio spectra are consistent with previous results. The new flux densities obtained from the Urumqi $λ$6\ cm, Effelsberg $λ$11\ cm and $λ$21\ cm surveys are crucial to determine the spectra of SNR G65.1+0.6, G69.0+2.7 (CTB 80), G93.7-0.2 and G114.3+0.3. We find that G192.8$-$1.1 (PKS 0607+17) consists of background sources, \ion{H}{II} regions and the extended diffuse emission of thermal nature, and conclude that G192.8$-$1.1 is not a SNR.

A Sino-German 6cm polarization survey of the Galactic plane IV. The region from 60deg to 129deg longitude

Linear polarization of diffuse Galactic emission is a signature of magnetic fields in the interstellar medium of our Galaxy. Observations at high frequencies are less affected by Faraday depolarization than those at lower frequencies and are able to detect polarized emission from more distant Galactic regions. We attempt to perform a sensitive survey of the polarized emission from the Galactic disk at 6 cm wavelength. We made polarization observations of the Galactic plane using the Urumqi 25-m telescope at 6 cm covering the area of 60deg< l <129deg and |b|<5deg. Missing large-scale structures in polarization were restored by extrapolation of the WMAP polarization data. We present the 6cm total intensity and linear polarization maps of the surveyed region. We identify two new extended HII regions G98.3-1.6 and G119.6+0.4 in this region. Numerous polarized patches and depolarization structures are visible in the polarization maps. Depolarization along the periphery of a few HII complexes was detected and can be explained by a Faraday screen model. We discuss some prominent depolarization HII regions, which have regular magnetic fields of several $μ$G. Structure functions of U, Q and PI images of the entire 6cm survey region of 10deg< l < 230deg exhibit much larger fluctuation power towards the inner Galaxy, which suggests a higher turbulence in the arm regions of the inner Galaxy. The Sino-German 6cm survey reveals new properties of the diffuse magnetized interstellar medium. The survey is also very useful for studying individual objects such as HII regions, which act as Faraday screens and have high rotation measures and therefore strong regular magnetic fields inside the regions.

A Sino-German 6cm polarization survey of the Galactic plane VII. Small supernova remnants

We study the spectral and polarization properties of supernova remnants (SNRs) based on our 6cm survey data. The observations were taken from the Sino-German 6cm polarization survey of the Galactic plane. By using the integrated flux densities at 6cm together with measurements at other wavelengths from the literature we derive the global spectra of 50 SNRs. In addition, we use the observations at 6cm to present the polarization images of 24 SNRs. We derived integrated flux densities at 6cm for 51 small SNRs with angular sizes less than 1 degree. Global radio spectral indices were obtained in all the cases except for Cas A. For SNRs G15.1-1.6, G16.2-2.7, G16.4-0.5, G17.4-2.3, G17.8-2.6, G20.4+0.1, G36.6+2.6, G43.9+1.6, G53.6-2.2, G55.7+3.4, G59.8+1.2, G68.6-1.2, and G113.0+0.2, the spectra have been significantly improved. From our analysis we argue that the object G16.8-1.1 is probably an HII region instead of a SNR. Cas A shows a secular decrease in total intensity, and we measured a flux density of 688+/-35 Jy at 6cm between 2004 and 2008. Polarized emission from 25 SNRs were detected. For G16.2-2.7, G69.7+1.0, G84.2-0.8 and G85.9-0.6, the polarized emission is detected for the first time confirming them as SNRs. High frequency observations of SNRs are rare but important to establish their spectra and trace them in polarization in particular towards the inner Galaxy where Faraday effects are important.

New 6cm and 11cm observations of the supernova remnant CTA 1

(Abridged) We conducted new 6cm and 11cm observations of CTA 1 using the Urumqi 25-m and Effelsberg 100-m telescopes. Data at other wavelengths were included to investigate the spectrum and polarisation properties. We obtained new total intensity and polarisation maps at 6cm and 11cm with angular resolutions of 9.5 arcmin and 4.4 arcmin, respectively. We derived a spectral index of alpha=-0.63+/-0.05 based on the integrated flux densities at 408 MHz, 1420 MHz, 2639 MHz, and 4800 MHz. The spectral index map calculated from data at the four frequencies shows a clear steepening of the spectrum from the strong shell emission towards the north-western breakout region with weak diffuse emission. The decrease of the spectral index is up to about 0.3. The RM map derived from polarisation data at 6cm and 11cm shows a sharp transition between positive RMs in the north-eastern and negative RMs in the south-western part of the SNR. We note a corresponding RM pattern of extragalactic sources and propose the existence of a large-diameter Faraday screen in front of CTA 1, which covers the north-eastern part of the SNR. The RM of the Faraday screen is estimated to be about +45 rad/m2. A RM structure function of CTA 1 indicates a very regular magnetic field within the Faraday screen, which is larger than about 2.7 microG in case of 500 pc distance.

A Sino-German 6 cm polarization survey of the Galactic plane II. The region from 129 degree to 230 degree longitude

Linearly polarized Galactic synchrotron emission provides valuable information about the properties of the Galactic magnetic field and the interstellar magneto-ionic medium, when Faraday rotation along the line of sight is properly taken into account. We aim to survey the Galactic plane at 6 cm including linear polarization. At such a short wavelength Faraday rotation effects are in general small and the Galactic magnetic field properties can be probed to larger distances than at long wavelengths. The Urumqi 25-m telescope is used for a sensitive 6 cm survey in total and polarized intensities. WMAP K-band (22.8 GHz) polarization data are used to restore the absolute zero-level of the Urumqi U and Q maps by extrapolation. Total intensity and polarization maps are presented for a Galactic plane region of 129 degree < l < 230 degree and |b| < 5 degree in the anti-centre with an angular resolution of 9'5 and an average sensitivity of 0.6 mK and 0.4 mK Tb in total and polarized intensity, respectively. We briefly discuss the properties of some extended Faraday Screens detected in the 6 cm polarization maps. The Sino-German 6 cm polarization survey provides new information about the properties of the magnetic ISM. The survey also adds valuable information for discrete Galactic objects and is in particular suited to detect extended Faraday Screens with large rotation measures hosting strong regular magnetic fields.

A Sino-German 6 cm polarization survey of the Galactic plane III. The region from 10 degree to 60 degree longitude

(Abridged) We have conducted a total intensity and polarization survey of the Galactic plane at 6 cm using the Urumqi 25 m telescope for the Galactic longitude range of 10 deg<l<60 deg and the Galactic latitude range of |b|<5 deg. Missing absolute zero levels of Stokes U and Q maps were restored by extrapolating the WMAP five-year K-band polarization data. For total intensities we recovered missing large-scale components by referring to the Effelsberg 11 cm survey. Total intensity and polarization maps are presented with an angular resolution of 9.5 arcmin and a sensitivity of 1 mK and 0.5 mK in total and polarized intensity, respectively. The 6 cm polarized emission in the Galactic plane originates within about 4 kpc distance, which increases for polarized emission out of the plane. The polarization map shows "patches", "canals" and "voids" with no correspondence in total intensity. We attribute the patches to turbulent magnetic field cells. Canals are caused by abrupt variation of polarization angles at the boundaries of patches rather than by foreground Faraday Screens. The superposition of foreground and Faraday Screen rotated background emission almost cancels polarized emission locally, so that polarization voids appear. By modelling the voids, we estimate the Faraday Screen's regular magnetic field along the line-of-sight to be larger than about 8 microG. We separated thermal (free-free) and non-thermal (synchrotron) emission according to their different spectral indices. The spectral index for the synchrotron emission was based on WMAP polarization data. The fraction of thermal emission at 6 cm is about 60% in the plane.

Do Ultrahigh Energy Cosmic Rays Come from Active Galactic Nuclei and Fermi $γ$-ray Sources?

We study possible correlations between ultrahigh energy cosmic rays (UHECRs), observed by Auger, AGASA and Yakutsk, and nearby active galactic nuclei (AGNs) and $Fermi$ sources. We consider the deflection effects by a Galactic magnetic field (GMF) model constrained by the most updated measurements. We found that the average deflection angles of UHECRs by the Galactic magnetic fields are less than $4^\circ$. A correlation between the Auger cosmic-ray events and nearby AGNs with a significance level of $\sim 4σ$ was found for the Auger UHECR data sets with or without deflection correction. No correlation was found between the AGASA/Yakutsk events with nearby AGNs. Marginal correlations between the Auger events and the $Fermi$ sources, and between AGASA events and $Fermi$ AGNs were found when the deflections calculated by the GMF model were considered. However, no correlation was found between the Yakutsk data and $Fermi$ sources. Some $Fermi$ sources are close to the arrival directions of UHECR events detected by Auger, AGASA, and Yakutsk, most of which are probably chance coincidence rather than objects producing UHECRs in the nearby Universe. Four $Fermi$ sources, NGC 4945, ESO 323-G77, NGC 6951, and Cen A, within 100~Mpc have UHECR events within $3.1^{\circ}$ from their positions, which could potentially be cosmic ray accelerators. However, the association can only be confirmed if more UHECRs are preferably detected in these directions.

Simulated SKA maps from Galactic 3D-emission models

(Abridged) We present maps for various Galactic longitudes and latitudes at 1.4 GHz, which is the frequency where deep SKA surveys are proposed. The maps are about 1.5 deg in size and have an angular resolution of about 1.6 arcsec. We analyse the maps in terms of their probability density functions (PDFs) and structure functions. Total intensity emission is more smooth in the plane than at high latitudes due to the different contributions from the regular and random magnetic field. The high latitude fields show more extended polarized emission and RM structures than those in the plane, where patchy emission structures on very small scales dominate. The RM PDFs in the plane are close to Gaussians, but clearly deviate from that at high latitudes. The RM structure functions show smaller amplitudes and steeper slopes towards high latitudes. These results emerge from the fact that much more turbulent cells are passed through by the line-of-sights in the plane. Although the simulated random magnetic field components distribute in 3D, the magnetic field spectrum extracted from the structure functions of RMs conforms to 2D in the plane and approaches 3D at high latitudes. This is partly related to the outer scale of the turbulent magnetic field, but mainly to the different lengths of the line-of-sights.
