COSINT-Agent: A Knowledge-Driven Multimodal Agent for Chinese Open Source Intelligence

Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) requires the integration and reasoning of diverse multimodal data, presenting significant challenges in deriving actionable insights. Traditional approaches, including multimodal large language models (MLLMs), often struggle to infer complex contextual relationships or deliver comprehensive intelligence from unstructured data sources. In this paper, we introduce COSINT-Agent, a knowledge-driven multimodal agent tailored to address the challenges of OSINT in the Chinese domain. COSINT-Agent seamlessly integrates the perceptual capabilities of fine-tuned MLLMs with the structured reasoning power of the Entity-Event-Scene Knowledge Graph (EES-KG). Central to COSINT-Agent is the innovative EES-Match framework, which bridges COSINT-MLLM and EES-KG, enabling systematic extraction, reasoning, and contextualization of multimodal insights. This integration facilitates precise entity recognition, event interpretation, and context retrieval, effectively transforming raw multimodal data into actionable intelligence. Extensive experiments validate the superior performance of COSINT-Agent across core OSINT tasks, including entity recognition, EES generation, and context matching. These results underscore its potential as a robust and scalable solution for advancing automated multimodal reasoning and enhancing the effectiveness of OSINT methodologies.

An Effective Iterated Two-stage Heuristic Algorithm for the Multiple Traveling Salesmen Problem

The multiple Traveling Salesmen Problem (mTSP) is a general extension of the famous NP-hard Traveling Salesmen Problem (TSP), that there are m (m > 1) salesmen to visit the cities. In this paper, we address the mTSP with both the minsum objective and minmax objective, which aims at minimizing the total length of the $m$ tours and the length of the longest tour among all the m tours, respectively. We propose an iterated two-stage heuristic algorithm called ITSHA for the mTSP. Each iteration of ITSHA consists of an initialization stage and an improvement stage. The initialization stage aims to generate high-quality and diverse initial solutions. The improvement stage mainly applies the variable neighborhood search (VNS) approach based on our proposed effective local search neighborhoods to optimize the initial solution. Moreover, some local optima escaping approaches are employed to enhance the search ability of the algorithm. Extensive experimental results on a wide range of public benchmark instances show that ITSHA significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art heuristic algorithms in solving the mTSP on both the objectives.

Facilitating Federated Genomic Data Analysis by Identifying Record Correlations while Ensuring Privacy

With the reduction of sequencing costs and the pervasiveness of computing devices, genomic data collection is continually growing. However, data collection is highly fragmented and the data is still siloed across different repositories. Analyzing all of this data would be transformative for genomics research. However, the data is sensitive, and therefore cannot be easily centralized. Furthermore, there may be correlations in the data, which if not detected, can impact the analysis. In this paper, we take the first step towards identifying correlated records across multiple data repositories in a privacy-preserving manner. The proposed framework, based on random shuffling, synthetic record generation, and local differential privacy, allows a trade-off of accuracy and computational efficiency. An extensive evaluation on real genomic data from the OpenSNP dataset shows that the proposed solution is efficient and effective.

Federated Learning Algorithms for Generalized Mixed-effects Model (GLMM) on Horizontally Partitioned Data from Distributed Sources

Objectives: This paper develops two algorithms to achieve federated generalized linear mixed effect models (GLMM), and compares the developed model's outcomes with each other, as well as that from the standard R package (`lme4'). Methods: The log-likelihood function of GLMM is approximated by two numerical methods (Laplace approximation and Gaussian Hermite approximation), which supports federated decomposition of GLMM to bring computation to data. Results: Our developed method can handle GLMM to accommodate hierarchical data with multiple non-independent levels of observations in a federated setting. The experiment results demonstrate comparable (Laplace) and superior (Gaussian-Hermite) performances with simulated and real-world data. Conclusion: We developed and compared federated GLMMs with different approximations, which can support researchers in analyzing biomedical data to accommodate mixed effects and address non-independence due to hierarchical structures (i.e., institutes, region, country, etc.).

Energy Minimization for Mobile Edge Computing Networks with Time-Sensitive Constraints

Mobile edge computing (MEC) provides users with a high quality experience (QoE) by placing servers with rich services close to the end users. Compared with local computing, MEC can contribute to energy saving, but results in increased communication latency. In this paper, we jointly optimize task offloading and resource allocation to minimize the energy consumption in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)-based MEC networks, where the time-sensitive tasks can be processed at both local users and MEC server via partial offloading. Since the optimization variables of the problem are strongly coupled, we first decompose the original problem into two subproblems named as offloading selection (PO), and subcarriers and computing resource allocation (PS), and then propose an iterative algorithm to deal with them in a sequence. To be specific, we derive the closed-form solution for PO, and deal with PS by an alternating way in the dual domain due to its NP-hardness. Simulation results demonstrate

Dissociation products and structures of solid H2S at strong compression

Hydrogen sulfides have recently received a great deal of interest due to the record high superconducting temperatures of up to 203 K observed on strong compression of dihydrogen sulfide (H2S). A joint theoretical and experimental study is presented in which decomposition products and structures of compressed H2S are characterized, and their superconducting properties are calculated. In addition to the experimentally known H2S and H3S phases, our first-principles structure searches have identified several energetically competitive stoichiometries that have not been reported previously; H2S3, H3S2, and H4S3. In particular, H4S3 is predicted to be thermodynamically stable within a large pressure range of 25-113 GPa. High-pressure room-temperature X-ray diffraction measurements confirm the presence of H3S and H4S3 through decomposition of H2S that emerge at 27 GPa and coexist with residual H2S, at least up to the highest pressure studied in our experiments of 140 GPa. Electron-phonon coupling calculations show that H4S3 has a small Tc of below 2 K, and that H2S is mainly responsible for the observed superconductivity of samples prepared at low temperature (<100K).
