An Operad of Non-commutative Independences Defined by Trees

We study $N$-ary non-commutative notions of independence, which are given by trees and which generalize free, Boolean, and monotone independence. For every rooted subtree $\mathcal{T}$ of the $N$-regular tree, we define the $\mathcal{T}$-free product of $N$ non-commutative probability spaces and we define the $\mathcal{T}$-free additive convolution of $N$ non-commutative laws. These $N$-ary convolution operations form a topological symmetric operad which includes the free, Boolean, monotone, and anti-monotone convolutions, as well as the orthogonal and subordination convolutions. Using the operadic framework, the proof of convolution identities (such as the relation between free, monotone, and subordination convolutions studied by Lenczewski) can be reduced to combinatorial manipulations of trees. We also develop a theory of $\mathcal{T}$-free independence that closely parallels the free, Boolean, and monotone cases, provided that the root vertex has more than one neighbor. In particular, we study the case where the root vertex of $\mathcal{T}$ has $n$ children and each other vertex has $d$ children, and we relate the $\mathcal{T}$-free convolution powers to free and Boolean convolution powers and the Belinschi-Nica semigroup.

Contraction Mapping of Feature Norms for Classifier Learning on the Data with Different Quality

The popular softmax loss and its recent extensions have achieved great success in the deep learning-based image classification. However, the data for training image classifiers usually has different quality. Ignoring such problem, the correct classification of low quality data is hard to be solved. In this paper, we discover the positive correlation between the feature norm of an image and its quality through careful experiments on various applications and various deep neural networks. Based on this finding, we propose a contraction mapping function to compress the range of feature norms of training images according to their quality and embed this contraction mapping function into softmax loss or its extensions to produce novel learning objectives. The experiments on various classification applications, including handwritten digit recognition, lung nodule classification, face verification and face recognition, demonstrate that the proposed approach is promising to effectively deal with the problem of learning on the data with different quality and leads to the significant and stable improvements in the classification accuracy.

The atoms of the free additive convolution of two operator-valued distributions

Suppose that $X\_{1}$ and $X\_{2}$ are two selfadjoint random variables that are freely independent over an operator algebra $\mathcal{B}$. We describe the possible operator atoms of the distribution of $X\_{1}+X\_{2}$ and, using linearization, we determine the possible eigenvalues of an arbitrary polynomial $p(X\_{1},X\_{2})$ in case $\mathcal{B}=\mathbb{C}$.

The qualitative analysis of the impact of media delay on the control of infectious disease

In this paper, we consider the impact of time delay by media on the control of the disease. We set up a class of SISM epidemic model with the time delay and the cumulative density of awareness caused by media. The sufficient condition of global asymptotic stability of disease-free equilibrium is approved. We get the global stability of the epidemic equilibrium and the existence conditions of Hopf bifurcation. Numerical simulations are presented to illustrate the analytical results. Finally, we analyze the influence of parameters on the control of infectious disease by combining the data of H1N1. By shortening the time of media lag, increasing transmission rate of media and the implementation rate of the media project, the spread of disease will be controlled effectively.

Extended de Finetti theorems for boolean independence and monotone independence

We construct several new spaces of quantum sequences and their quantum families of maps in sense of Sołtan. Then, we introduce noncommutative distributional symmetries associated with these quantum maps and study simple relations between them. We will focus on studying two kinds of noncommutative distributional symmetries: monotone spreadability and boolean spreadability. We provide an example of a spreadable sequence of random variables for which the usual unilateral shift is an unbounded map. As a result, it is natural to study bilateral sequences of random objects, which are indexed by integers, rather than unilateral sequences. In the end of the paper, we will show Ryll-Nardzewski type theorems for monotone independence and boolean independence: Roughly speaking, an infinite bilateral sequence of random variables is monotonically(boolean) spreadable if and only if the variables are identically distributed and monotone(boolean) with respect to the conditional expectation onto its tail algebra. For an infinite sequence of noncommutative random variables, boolean spreadability is equivalent to boolean exchangeability.

A noncommutative De Finetti theorem for boolean independence

We introduce a family of quantum semigroups and their natural coactions on noncommutative polynomials. We present three invariance conditions, associated with these coactions, for the joint distribution of sequences of selfadjoint noncommutative random variables. For one of the invariance conditions, we prove that the joint distribution of an infinite sequence of noncommutative random variables satisfies it is equivalent to the fact that the sequence of the random variables are identically distributed and boolean independent with respect to the conditional expectation onto its tail algebra. This is a boolean analogue of de Finetti theorem on exchangeable sequences. In the end of the paper, we will discuss the other two invariance conditions which lead to some trivial results.
