Quark and gluon form factors in four-loop QCD

We compute the photon-quark and Higgs-gluon form factors to four-loop order within massless perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics. Our results constitute ready-to-use building blocks for N${}^4$LO cross sections for Drell-Yan processes and gluon-fusion Higgs boson production at the LHC. We present complete analytic expressions for both form factors and show several of the most complicated master integrals.

The $Hb\bar{b}$ vertex at four loops and hard matching coefficients in SCET for various currents

We compute the four-loop corrections to the Higgs-bottom vertex within massless QCD and present analytic results for all color structures. The infrared poles of the renormalized form factor agree with the predicted four-loop pattern. Furthermore, we use the results for the Higgs-bottom, photon-quark, and Higgs-gluon form factors to provide hard matching coefficients in soft-collinear effective theory up to four-loop accuracy.

Constructing d-log integrands and computing master integrals for three-loop four-particle scattering

We compute all master integrals for massless three-loop four-particle scattering amplitudes required for processes like di-jet or di-photon production at the LHC. We present our result in terms of a Laurent expansion of the integrals in the dimensional regulator up to 8$^{\text{th}}$ power, with coefficients expressed in terms of harmonic polylogarithms. As a basis of master integrals we choose integrals with integrands that only have logarithmic poles - called $d$log forms. This choice greatly facilitates the subsequent computation via the method of differential equations. We detail how this basis is obtained via an improved algorithm originally developed by one of the authors. We provide a public implementation of this algorithm. We explain how the algorithm is naturally applied in the context of unitarity. In addition, we classify our $d$log forms according to their soft and collinear properties.

Matching the heavy-quark fields in QCD and HQET at four loops

The QCD/HQET matching coefficient for the heavy-quark field is calculated up to four loops. It must be finite; this requirement produces analytical results for some terms in the four-loop on-shell heavy-quark field renormalization constant which were previously only known numerically. The effect of a non-zero lighter-flavor mass is calculated up to three loops. A class of on-shell integrals with two masses is analyzed in detail. By specifying our result to QED, we obtain the relation between the electron field and the Bloch--Nordsieck field with four-loop accuracy.

$\overline{\rm MS}$-on-shell quark mass relation up to four loops in QCD and a general SU$(N)$ gauge group

In this paper we compute the relation between heavy quark masses defined in the modified minimal subtraction and on-shell scheme. Detailed results are presented for all coefficients of the SU$(N_c)$ colour factors. The reduction of the four-loop on-shell integrals is performed for a general QCD gauge parameter. Some of the about 380 master integrals are computed analytically, others with high numerical precision based on Mellin-Barnes representations, and the rest numerically with the help of {\tt FIESTA}. We discuss in detail the precise numerical evaluation of the four-loop master integrals. Updated relations between various short-distance masses and the $\overline{\rm MS}$ quark mass to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order accuracy are provided for the charm, bottom and top quark. We discuss the dependence on the renormalization and factorization scale.

A planar four-loop form factor and cusp anomalous dimension in QCD

We compute the fermionic contribution to the photon-quark form factor to four-loop order in QCD in the planar limit in analytic form. From the divergent part of the latter the cusp and collinear anomalous dimensions are extracted. Results are also presented for the finite contribution. We briefly describe our method to compute all planar master integrals at four-loop order.

Evaluating four-loop conformal Feynman integrals by D-dimensional differential equations

We evaluate a four-loop conformal integral, i.e. an integral over four four-dimensional coordinates, by turning to its dimensionally regularized version and applying differential equations for the set of the corresponding 213 master integrals. To solve these linear differential equations we follow the strategy suggested by Henn and switch to a uniformly transcendental basis of master integrals. We find a solution to these equations up to weight eight in terms of multiple polylogarithms. Further, we present an analytical result for the given four-loop conformal integral considered in four-dimensional space-time in terms of single-valued harmonic polylogarithms. As a by-product, we obtain analytical results for all the other 212 master integrals within dimensional regularization, i.e. considered in D dimensions.

Evaluating the last missing ingredient for the three-loop quark static potential by differential equations

We analytically evaluate the three-loop Feynman integral which was the last missing ingredient for the analytical evaluation of the three-loop quark static potential. To evaluate the integral we introduce an auxiliary parameter $y$, which corresponds to the residual energy in some of the HQET propagators. We construct a differential system for 109 master integrals depending on $y$ and fix boundary conditions from the asymptotic behaviour in the limit $y\to \infty$. The original integral is recovered from the limit $y\to 0$. To solve these linear differential equations we try to find an $ε$-form of the differential system. Though this step appears to be, strictly speaking, not possible, we succeed to find an $ε$-form of all irreducible diagonal blocks, which is sufficient for solving the differential system in terms of an $ε$ expansion. We find a solution up to weight six in terms of multiple polylogarithms and obtain an analytical result for the required three-loop Feynman integral by taking the limit $y\to 0$. As a by-product, we obtain analytical results for some Feynman integrals typical for HQET.

Light-by-light-type corrections to the muon anomalous magnetic moment at four-loop order

The numerically dominant QED contributions to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon stem from Feynman diagrams with internal electron loops. We consider such corrections and present a calculation of the four-loop light-by-light-type corrections where the external photon couples to a closed electron or muon loop. We perform an asymptotic expansion in the ratio of electron and muon mass and reduce the resulting integrals to master integrals which we evaluate using analytical and numerical methods. We confirm the results present in the literature which are based on different computational methods.

Non-planar master integrals for the production of two off-shell vector bosons in collisions of massless partons

We present the calculation of all non-planar master integrals that are needed to describe production of two off-shell vector bosons in collisions of two massless partons through NNLO in perturbative QCD. The integrals are computed analytically using differential equations in external kinematic variables and expressed in terms of Goncharov polylogarithms. These results provide the last missing ingredient needed for the computation of two-loop amplitudes that describe the production of two gauge bosons with different invariant masses in hadron collisions.

Quark mass relations to four-loop order

We present results for the relation between a heavy quark mass defined in the on-shell and $\bar{\rm MS}$ scheme to four-loop order. The method to compute the four-loop on-shell integral is briefly described and the new results are used to establish relations between various short-distance masses and the $\bar{\rm MS}$ quark mass to next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order accuracy. These relations play an important role in the accurate determination of the $\bar{\rm MS}$ heavy quark masses.

Two-loop helicity amplitudes for the production of two off-shell electroweak bosons in gluon fusion

We compute the part of the two-loop virtual amplitude for the process $gg \to V_1 V_2 \to (l_1 \bar l'_{1}) (l_2 \bar l'_2)$, where $V_{1,2}$ are arbitrary electroweak gauge bosons, that receives contributions from loops of massless quarks. Invariant masses of electroweak bosons are allowed to be different from each other. Our result provides an important ingredient for improving the description of gluon fusion contribution to the production of four-lepton final states at the LHC.

Two-loop helicity amplitudes for the production of two off-shell electroweak bosons in quark-antiquark collisions

Knowledge of two-loop QCD amplitudes for processes $q\bar q \to V_1 V_2 \to (l_1\bar l'_1)(l_2 \bar l'_2)$ is important for improving the theoretical description of four-lepton production in hadron collisions. In this paper we compute these helicity amplitudes for all intermediate vector bosons, $V_1 V_2 = γ^*γ^*, WW, ZZ, WZ, W γ^*$, including off-shell effects and decays to leptons.

Analytic results for planar three-loop four-point integrals from a Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation

We apply a recently suggested new strategy to solve differential equations for master integrals for families of Feynman integrals. After a set of master integrals has been found using the integration-by-parts method, the crucial point of this strategy is to introduce a new basis where all master integrals are pure functions of uniform transcendentality. In this paper, we apply this method to all planar three-loop four-point massless on-shell master integrals. We explicitly find such a basis, and show that the differential equations are of the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov type. We explain how to solve the latter to all orders in the dimensional regularization parameter epsilon, including all boundary constants, in a purely algebraic way. The solution is expressed in terms of harmonic polylogarithms. We explicitly write out the Laurent expansion in epsilon for all master integrals up to weight six.

Two-loop planar master integrals for the production of off-shell vector bosons in hadron collisions

We describe the calculation of all planar master integrals that are needed for the computation of NNLO QCD corrections to the production of two off-shell vector bosons in hadron collisions. The most complicated representatives of integrals in this class are the two-loop four-point functions where two external lines are on the light-cone and two other external lines have different invariant masses. We compute these and other relevant integrals analytically using differential equations in external kinematic variables and express our results in terms of Goncharov polylogarithms. The case of two equal off-shellnesses, recently considered in Ref. [1], appears as a particular case of our general solution.

Analytic results for two-loop master integrals for Bhabha scattering I

We evaluate analytically the master integrals for one of two types of planar families contributing to massive two-loop Bhabha scattering in QED. As in our previous paper, we apply a recently suggested new strategy to solve differential equations for master integrals for families of Feynman integrals. The crucial point of this strategy is to use a new basis of the master integrals where all master integrals are pure functions of uniform weight. This allows to cast the differential equations into a simple canonical form, which can straightforwardly be integrated order by order in epsilon in dimensional regularization. The boundary conditions are also particularly transparent in this setup. We identify the class of functions relevant to this problem to all orders in epsilon. We present the results up to weight four for all except one integrals in terms of a subset of Goncharov polylogarithms, which one may call two-dimensional harmonic polylogarithms. For one integral, and more generally at higher weight, the solution is written in terms of Chen iterated integrals.

Evaluating single-scale and/or non-planar diagrams by differential equations

We apply a recently suggested new strategy to solve differential equations for Feynman integrals. We develop this method further by analyzing asymptotic expansions of the integrals. We argue that this allows the systematic application of the differential equations to single-scale Feynman integrals. Moreover, the information about singular limits significantly simplifies finding boundary constants for the differential equations. To illustrate these points we consider two families of three-loop integrals. The first are form-factor integrals with two external legs on the light cone. We introduce one more scale by taking one more leg off-shell, $p_2^2\neq 0$. We analytically solve the differential equations for the master integrals in a Laurent expansion in dimensional regularization with $ε=(4-D)/2$. Then we show how to obtain analytic results for the corresponding one-scale integrals in an algebraic way. An essential ingredient of our method is to match solutions of the differential equations in the limit of small $p_2^2$ to our results at $p_2^2\neq 0$ and to identify various terms in these solutions according to expansion by regions. The second family consists of four-point non-planar integrals with all four legs on the light cone. We evaluate, by differential equations, all the master integrals for the so-called $K_4$ graph consisting of four external vertices which are connected with each other by six lines. We show how the boundary constants can be fixed with the help of the knowledge of the singular limits. We present results in terms of harmonic polylogarithms for the corresponding seven master integrals with six propagators in a Laurent expansion in $ε$ up to weight six.

Four-loop corrections with two closed fermion loops to fermion self energies and the lepton anomalous magnetic moment

We compute the eighth-order fermionic corrections involving two and three closed massless fermion loops to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. The required four-loop on-shell integrals are classified and explicit analytical results for the master integrals are presented. As further applications we compute the corresponding four-loop QCD corrections to the mass and wave function renormalization constants for a massive quark in the on-shell scheme.

Leading singularities and off-shell conformal integrals

The three-loop four-point function of stress-tensor multiplets in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory contains two so far unknown, off-shell, conformal integrals, in addition to the known, ladder-type integrals. In this paper we evaluate the unknown integrals, thus obtaining the three-loop correlation function analytically. The integrals have the generic structure of rational functions multiplied by (multiple) polylogarithms. We use the idea of leading singularities to obtain the rational coefficients, the symbol - with an appropriate ansatz for its structure - as a means of characterising multiple polylogarithms, and the technique of asymptotic expansion of Feynman integrals to obtain the integrals in certain limits. The limiting behaviour uniquely fixes the symbols of the integrals, which we then lift to find the corresponding polylogarithmic functions. The final formulae are numerically confirmed. The techniques we develop can be applied more generally, and we illustrate this by analytically evaluating one of the integrals contributing to the same four-point function at four loops. This example shows a connection between the leading singularities and the entries of the symbol.

The Ultraviolet Properties of N=4 Supergravity at Four Loops

We demonstrate that pure N=4 supergravity is ultraviolet divergent at four loops. The form of the divergence suggests that it is due to the rigid U(1) duality-symmetry anomaly of the theory. This is the first known example of an ultraviolet divergence in a pure ungauged supergravity theory in four dimensions. We use the duality between color and kinematics to construct the integrand of the four-loop four-point amplitude, whose ultraviolet divergence is then extracted by standard integration techniques.

Expansion by regions: revealing potential and Glauber regions automatically

When performing asymptotic expansions using the strategy of expansion by regions, it is a non-trivial task to find the relevant regions. The recently published Mathematica code asy.m automates this task, but it has not been able to detect potential regions in threshold expansions or Glauber regions. In this work we present an algorithm and its implementation in the update asy2.m which also reveals potential and Glauber regions automatically.

Five-loop Konishi in N=4 SYM

We present a new method for computing the Konishi anomalous dimension in N=4 SYM at weak coupling. It does not rely on the conventional Feynman diagram technique and is not restricted to the planar limit. It is based on the OPE analysis of the four-point correlation function of stress-tensor multiplets, which has been recently constructed up to six loops. The Konishi operator gives the leading contribution to the singlet SU(4) channel of this OPE. Its anomalous dimension is the coefficient of the leading single logarithmic singularity of the logarithm of the correlation function in the double short-distance limit, in which the operator positions coincide pairwise. We regularize the logarithm of the correlation function in this singular limit by a version of dimensional regularization. At any loop level, the resulting singularity is a simple pole whose residue is determined by a finite two-point integral with one loop less. This drastically simplifies the five-loop calculation of the Konishi anomalous dimension by reducing it to a set of known four-loop two-point integrals and two unknown integrals which we evaluate analytically. We obtain an analytic result at five loops in the planar limit and observe perfect agreement with the prediction based on integrability in AdS/CFT.

The Dimensional Recurrence and Analyticity Method for Multicomponent Master Integrals: Using Unitarity Cuts to Construct Homogeneous Solutions

We consider the application of the DRA method to the case of several master integrals in a given sector. We establish a connection between the homogeneous part of dimensional recurrence and maximal unitarity cuts of the corresponding integrals: a maximally cut master integral appears to be a solution of the homogeneous part of the dimensional recurrence relation. This observation allows us to make a necessary step of the DRA method, the construction of the general solution of the homogeneous equation, which, in this case, is a coupled system of difference equations.

The one-loop six-dimensional hexagon integral with three massive corners

We compute the six-dimensional hexagon integral with three non-adjacent external masses analytically. After a simple rescaling, it is given by a function of six dual conformally invariant cross-ratios. The result can be expressed as a sum of 24 terms involving only one basic function, which is a simple linear combination of logarithms, dilogarithms, and trilogarithms of uniform degree three transcendentality. Our method uses differential equations to determine the symbol of the function, and an algorithm to reconstruct the latter from its symbol. It is known that six-dimensional hexagon integrals are closely related to scattering amplitudes in N=4 super Yang-Mills theory, and we therefore expect our result to be helpful for understanding the structure of scattering amplitudes in this theory, in particular at two loops.

A Two-Loop Octagon Wilson Loop in N = 4 SYM

In the planar N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory at weak coupling, we perform the first analytic computation of a two-loop eight-edged Wilson loop embedded into the boundary of AdS3. Its remainder function is given as a function of uniform transcendental weight four in terms of a constant plus a product of four logarithms. We compare to the strong-coupling result, and test a conjecture on the universality of the remainder function proposed in the literature.

An Analytic Result for the Two-Loop Hexagon Wilson Loop in N = 4 SYM

In the planar N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, the conformal symmetry constrains multi-loop n-edged Wilson loops to be basically given in terms of the one-loop n-edged Wilson loop, augmented, for n greater than 6, by a function of conformally invariant cross ratios. We identify a class of kinematics for which the Wilson loop exhibits exact Regge factorisation and which leave invariant the analytic form of the multi-loop n-edged Wilson loop. In those kinematics, the analytic result for the Wilson loop is the same as in general kinematics, although the computation is remarkably simplified with respect to general kinematics. Using the simplest of those kinematics, we have performed the first analytic computation of the two-loop six-edged Wilson loop in general kinematics.

Dimensional recurrence relations: an easy way to evaluate higher orders of expansion in $ε$

Applications of a method recently suggested by one of the authors (R.L.) are presented. This method is based on the use of dimensional recurrence relations and analytic properties of Feynman integrals as functions of the parameter of dimensional regularization, $d$. The method was used to obtain analytical expressions for two missing constants in the $ε$-expansion of the most complicated master integrals contributing to the three-loop massless quark and gluon form factors and thereby present the form factors in a completely analytic form. To illustrate its power we present, at transcendentality weight seven, the next order of the $ε$-expansion of one of the corresponding most complicated master integrals. As a further application, we present three previously unknown terms of the expansion in $ε$ of the three-loop non-planar massless propagator diagram. Only multiple $ζ$ values at integer points are present in our result.

The Two-Loop Hexagon Wilson Loop in N = 4 SYM

In the planar N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, the conformal symmetry constrains multi-loop n-edged Wilson loops to be given in terms of the one-loop n-edged Wilson loop, augmented, for n greater than 6, by a function of conformally invariant cross ratios. That function is termed the remainder function. In a recent paper, we have displayed the first analytic computation of the two-loop six-edged Wilson loop, and thus of the corresponding remainder function. Although the calculation was performed in the quasi-multi-Regge kinematics of a pair along the ladder, the Regge exactness of the six-edged Wilson loop in those kinematics entails that the result is the same as in general kinematics. We show in detail how the most difficult of the integrals is computed, which contribute to the six-edged Wilson loop. Finally, the remainder function is given as a function of uniform transcendental weight four in terms of Goncharov polylogarithms. We consider also some asymptotic values of the remainder function, and the value when all the cross ratios are equal.

The one-loop pentagon to higher orders in epsilon

We compute the one-loop scalar massless pentagon integral I_5^{6-2 eps} in D=6-2\eps dimensions in the limit of multi-Regge kinematics. This integral first contributes to the parity-odd part of the one-loop N=4 five-point MHV amplitude m_5^{(1)} at O(eps). In the high energy limit defined, the pentagon integral reduces to double sums or equivalently two-fold Mellin-Barnes integrals. By determining the O(eps) contribution to I_5^{6-2 eps}, one therefore gains knowledge of m_5^{(1)} through to O(eps^2) which is necessary for studies of the iterative structure of N=4 SYM amplitudes beyond one-loop. One immediate application is the extraction of the one-loop gluon-production vertex through to O(eps^2) and the iterative construction of the two-loop gluon-production vertex through to finite terms which is described in a companion paper. The analytic methods we have used for evaluating the pentagon integral in the high energy limit may also be applied to the hexagon integral and may ultimately give information on the form of the remainder function.

Applying Mellin-Barnes technique and Groebner bases to the three-loop static potential

The Mellin-Barnes technique to evaluate master integrals and the algorithm called FIRE to solve IBP relations with the help of Groebner bases are briefly reviewed. In FIRE, an extension of the classical Buchberger algorithm to construct Groebner bases is combined with the well-known Laporta algorithm. It is explained how both techniques are used when evaluating the three-loop correction to the static QCD quark potential. First results are presented: the coefficients of n_l^3 and n_l^2, where n_l is the number of light quarks.

Evaluating the three-loop static quark potential

This is a status report of the evaluation of the three-loop corrections to the static QCD potential of a heavy quark and an antiquark. The families of Feynman integrals that appear in the evaluation are described. To reduce any integral of the families to master integrals we solve integration-by-parts relations by the algorithm called FIRE. To evaluate the corresponding master integrals we apply the Mellin-Barnes technique. First results are presented: the coefficients of n_l^3 and n_l^2, where n_l is the number of light quarks.

Two-Loop Electroweak Logarithms in Four-Fermion Processes at High Energy

We present the complete analytical result for the two-loop logarithmically enhanced contributions to the high energy asymptotic behavior of the vector form factor and the four-fermion cross section in a spontaneously broken SU(2) gauge model. On the basis of this result we derive the dominant two-loop electroweak corrections to the neutral current four-fermion processes at high energies. Previously neglected effects of the gauge boson mass difference are included through the next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic approximation.
