$q$-deformed rationals and $q$-continued fractions

We introduce a notion of $q$-deformed rational numbers and $q$-deformed continued fractions. A $q$-deformed rational is encoded by a triangulation of a polygon and can be computed recursively. The recursive formula is analogous to the $q$-deformed Pascal identitiy for the Gaussian binomial coefficients, but the Pascal triangle is replaced by the Farey graph. The coefficients of the polynomials defining the $q$-rational count quiver subrepresentations of the maximal indecomposable representation of the graph dual to the triangulation. Several other properties, such as total positivity properties, $q$-deformation of the Farey graph, matrix presentations and $q$-continuants are given, as well as a relation to the Jones polynomial of rational knots.

Lagrangian configurations and symplectic cross-ratios

We consider moduli spaces of cyclic configurations of $N$ lines in a $2n$-dimensional symplectic vector space, such that every set of $n$ consecutive lines generates a Lagrangian subspace. We study geometric and combinatorial problems related to these moduli spaces, and prove that they are isomorphic to quotients of spaces of symmetric linear difference operators with monodromy $-1$. The symplectic cross-ratio is an invariant of two pairs of $1$-dimensional subspaces of a symplectic vector space. For $N = 2n+2$, the moduli space of Lagrangian configurations is parametrized by $n+1$ symplectic cross-ratios. These cross-ratios satisfy a single remarkable relation, related to tridiagonal determinants and continuants, given by the Pfaffian of a Gram matrix.

A step towards cluster superalgebras

We introduce a class of commutative superalgebras generalizing cluster algebras. A cluster superalgebra is defined by a hypergraph called an "extended quiver", and transformations called mutations. We prove the super analog of the "Laurent phenomenon", i.e., that all elements of a given cluster superalgebra are Laurent polynomials in the initial variables, and find an invariant presymplectic form. Examples of cluster superalgebras are provided by superanalogs of Coxeter's frieze patterns. We apply the Laurent phenomenon to construct a new integer sequence extending the Somos-$4$ sequence.

Introducing supersymmetric frieze patterns and linear difference operators

We introduce a supersymmetric analog of the classical Coxeter frieze patterns. Our approach is based on the relation with linear difference operators. We define supersymmetric analogs of linear difference operators called Hill's operators. The space of these "superfriezes" is an algebraic supervariety, which is isomorphic to the space of supersymmetric second order difference equations, called Hill's equations.

$SL_2(\mathbb{Z})$-tilings of the torus, Coxeter-Conway friezes and Farey triangulations

The notion of $SL_2$-tiling is a generalization of that of classical Coxeter-Conway frieze pattern. We classify doubly antiperiodic $SL_2$-tilings that contain a rectangular domain of positive integers. Every such $SL_2$-tiling corresponds to a pair of frieze patterns and a unimodular $2\times2$-matrix with positive integer coefficients. We relate this notion to triangulated $n$-gons in the Farey graph.

Coxeter's frieze patterns and discretization of the Virasoro orbit

We show that the space of classical Coxeter's frieze patterns can be viewed as a discrete version of a coadjoint orbit of the Virasoro algebra. The canonical (cluster) (pre)symplectic form on the space of frieze patterns is a discretization of the Kirillov symplectic form. We relate a continuous version of frieze patterns to conformal metrics of constant curvature in dimension 2.

Extremal set theory, cubic forms on $\mathbb{F}_2^n$ and Hurwitz square identities

We consider a family, $\mathcal{F}$, of subsets of an $n$-set such that the cardinality of the symmetric difference of any two elements $F,F'\in\mathcal{F}$ is not a multiple of 4. We prove that the maximal size of $\mathcal{F}$ is bounded by $2n$, unless $n\equiv{}3\mod4$ when it is bounded by $2n+2$. Our method uses cubic forms on $\mathbb{F}_2^n$ and the Hurwitz-Radon theory of square identities. We also apply this theory to obtain some information about boolean cubic forms and so-called additive quadruples.

Higher Trace and Berezinian of Matrices over a Clifford Algebra

We define the notions of trace, determinant and, more generally, Berezinian of matrices over a (Z_2)^n graded commutative associative algebra. The applications include a new approach to the classical theory of matrices with coefficients in a Clifford algebra, in particular of quaternionic matrices. In a special case, we recover the classical Dieudonné determinant of quaternionic matrices, but in general our quaternionic determinant is different. We show that the graded determinant of purely even (Z_2)^n graded matrices of degree 0 is polynomial in its entries. In the case of the algebra of quaternions, we calculate the formula for the Berezinian in terms of a product of quasiminors in the sense of Gelfand, Retakh, and Wilson. The graded trace is related to the graded Berezinian (and determinant) by a (Z_2)^n graded version of Liouville's formula.

Linear difference equations, frieze patterns and combinatorial Gale transform

We study the space of linear difference equations with periodic coefficients and (anti)periodic solutions. We show that this space is isomorphic to the space of tame frieze patterns and closely related to the moduli space of configurations of points in the projective space. We define the notion of combinatorial Gale transform which is a duality between periodic difference equations of different orders. We describe periodic rational maps generalizing the classical Gauss map.

Orthogonal Designs and a Cubic Binary Function

Orthogonal designs are fundamental mathematical notions used in the construction of space time block codes for wireless transmissions. Designs have two important parameters, the rate and the decoding delay; the main problem of the theory is to construct designs maximizing the rate and minimizing the decoding delay. All known constructions of CODs are inductive or algorithmic. In this paper, we present an explicit construction of optimal CODs. We do not apply recurrent procedures and do calculate the matrix elements directly. Our formula is based on a cubic function in two binary n-vectors. In our previous work (Comm. Math. Phys., 2010, and J. Pure and Appl. Algebra, 2011), we used this function to define a series of non-associative algebras generalizing the classical algebra of octonions and to obtain sum of squares identities of Hurwitz-Radon type.

2-frieze patterns and the cluster structure of the space of polygons

We study the space of 2-frieze patterns generalizing that of the classical Coxeter-Conway frieze patterns. The geometric realization of this space is the space of n-gons (in the projective plane and in 3-dimensional vector space) which is a close relative of the moduli space of genus 0 curves with n marked points. We show that the space of 2-frieze patterns is a cluster manifold and study its algebraic and arithmetic properties.

A series of algebras generalizing the octonions and Hurwitz-Radon identity

We study non-associative twisted group algebras over $(\Z_2)^n$ with cubic twisting functions. We construct a series of algebras that extend the classical algebra of octonions in the same way as the Clifford algebras extend the algebra of quaternions. We study their properties, give several equivalent definitions and prove their uniqueness within some natural assumptions. We then prove a simplicity criterion. We present two applications of the constructed algebras and the developed technique. The first application is a simple explicit formula for the following famous square identity: $(a_1^2+...+a_{N}^2)\,(b_1^2+...+b_{ρ(N)}^2)= c_1^2+...+c_{N}^2$, where $c_k$ are bilinear functions of the $a_i$ and $b_j$ and where $ρ(n)$ is the Hurwitz-Radon function. The second application is the relation to Moufang loops and, in particular, to the code loops. To illustrate this relation, we provide an explicit coordinate formula for the factor set of the Parker loop.

Alternated Hochschild Cohomology

In this paper we construct a graded Lie algebra on the space of cochains on a $\mathbbZ_2$-graded vector space that are skew-symmetric in the odd variables. The Lie bracket is obtained from the classical Gerstenhaber bracket by (partial) skew-symmetrization; the coboundary operator is a skew-symmetrized version of the Hochschild differential. We show that an order-one element $m$ satisfying the zero-square condition $[m,m]=0$ defines an algebraic structure called "Lie antialgebra". The cohomology (and deformation) theory of these algebras is then defined. We present two examples of non-trivial cohomology classes which are similar to the celebrated Gelfand-Fuchs and Godbillon-Vey classes.

Lie antialgebras: premices

The main purpose of this work is to develop the basic notions of the Lie theory for commutative algebras. We introduce a class of $\mathbbZ_2$-graded commutative but not associative algebras that we call ``Lie antialgebras''. These algebras are closely related to Lie (super)algebras and, in some sense, link together commutative and Lie algebras. The main notions we define in this paper are: representations of Lie antialgebras, an analog of the Lie-Poisson bivector (which is not Poisson) and central extensions. We also classify simple finite-dimensional Lie antialgebras.

Differential operators on supercircle: conformally equivariant quantization and symbol calculus

We consider the supercircle $S^{1|1}$ equipped with the standard contact structure. The conformal Lie superalgebra K(1) acts on $S^{1|1}$ as the Lie superalgebra of contact vector fields; it contains the Möbius superalgebra $osp(1|2)$. We study the space of linear differential operators on weighted densities as a module over $osp(1|2)$. We introduce the canonical isomorphism between this space and the corresponding space of symbols and find interesting resonant cases where such an isomorphism does not exist.

Symmetries of modules of differential operators

Let ${\cal F}\_λ(S^1)$ be the space of tensor densities of degree (or weight) $λ$ on the circle $S^1$. The space ${\cal D}^k\_{λ,μ}(S^1)$ of $k$-th order linear differential operators from ${\cal F}\_λ(S^1)$ to ${\cal F}\_μ(S^1)$ is a natural module over $\mathrm{Diff}(S^1)$, the diffeomorphism group of $S^1$. We determine the algebra of symmetries of the modules ${\cal D}^k\_{λ,μ}(S^1)$, i.e., the linear maps on ${\cal D}^k\_{λ,μ}(S^1)$ commuting with the $\mathrm{Diff}(S^1)$-action. We also solve the same problem in the case of straight line $\mathbb{R}$ (instead of $S^1$) and compare the results in the compact and non-compact cases.
