On quasinormal modes in 4D black hole solutions in the model with anisotropic fluid

We consider a family of 4-dimensional black hole solutions from Dehnen et al. ( Grav. Cosmol. 9:153, arXiv: gr-qc/0211049, 2003) governed by natural number $q= 1, 2, 3 , \dots$, which appear in the model with anisotropic fluid and the equations of state: $p_r = -ρ(2q-1)^{-1}$, $p_t = - p_r$, where $p_r$ and $p_t$ are pressures in radial and transverse directions, respectively, and $ρ> 0$ is the density. These equations of state obey weak, strong and dominant energy conditions. For $q = 1$ the metric of the solution coincides with that of the Reissner-Nordström one. The global structure of solutions is outlined, giving rise to Carter-Penrose diagram of Reissner-Nordström or Schwarzschild types for odd $q = 2k + 1$ or even $q = 2k$, respectively. Certain physical parameters corresponding to BH solutions (gravitational mass, PPN parameters, Hawking temperature and entropy) are calculated. We obtain and analyse the quasinormal modes for a test massless scalar field in the eikonal approximation. For limiting case $q = + \infty$, they coincide with the well-known results for the Schwarzschild solution. We show that the Hod conjecture which connect the Hawking temperature and the damping rate is obeyed for all $q \geq 2$ and all (allowed) values of parameters.

Stable exponential cosmological type solutions with three factor spaces in EGB model with a $Λ$-term

We study a $D$-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet model which includes the Gauss-Bonnet term, the cosmological term $Λ$ and two non-zero constants: $α_1$ and $α_2$. Under imposing the metric to be diagonal one, we find cosmological type solutions with exponential dependence of three scale factors in a variable $u$, governed by three non-coinciding Hubble-like parameters: $H \neq 0$, $h_1$ and $h_2$, obeying $m H + k_1 h_1 + k_2 h_2 \neq 0$, corresponding to factor spaces of dimensions $m > 1$, $k_1 > 1$ and $k_2 > 1$, respectively, and depending upon sign parameter $\varepsilon = \pm 1$, where $\varepsilon = 1$ corresponds to cosmological case and $\varepsilon = - 1$ - to static one). We deal with two cases: i) $m < k_1 < k_2$ and ii) $1< k_1 = k_2 = k$, $k \neq m$. We show that in both cases the solutions exist if $\varepsilon α= \varepsilon α_2 / α_1 > 0$ and $αΛ> 0$ satisfies certain (upper and lower) bounds. The solutions are defined up to solutions of certain polynomial master equation of order four (or less) which may be solved in radicals. In case ii) explicit solutions are presented. In both cases we single out stable and non-stable solutions as $u \to \pm \infty$. The case $H = 0$ is also considered.

On generalized Melvin solutions for Lie algebras of rank 4

We deal with generalized Melvin-like solutions associated with Lie algebras of rank $4$ ($A_4$, $B_4$, $C_4$, $D_4$, $F_4$). Any solution has static cylindrically-symmetric metric in $D$ dimensions in presence of four Abelian 2-forms and four scalar fields. The solution is governed by four moduli functions $H_s(z)$ ($s = 1,...,4$) of squared radial coordinate $z=ρ^2$ obeying four differential equations of the Toda chain type. These functions are polynomials of powers $(n_1,n_2, n_3, n_4) = (4,6,6,4), (8,14,18,10), (7,12,15,16), (6,10,6,6), (22,42,30,16)$ for Lie algebras $A_4$, $B_4$, $C_4$, $D_4$, $F_4$, respectively. The asymptotic behaviour for the polynomials at large $z$ is governed by an integer-valued $4 \times 4$ matrix $ν$ connected in a certain way with the inverse Cartan matrix of the Lie algebra and (in $A_4$ case) the matrix representing a generator of the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-group of symmetry of the Dynkin diagram. The symmetry properties and duality identities for polynomials are studied. We also present 2-form flux integrals over a $2$-dimensional submanifold. Dilatonic black hole analogs of the obtained Melvin-type solutions, e.g. "fantom" ones, are also considered. The phantom black holes are described by fluxbrane polynomials under consideration.

Regularization by $\varepsilon$-metric. II. Limit $\varepsilon = + 0$

In a wide class of propagators regularized by the $\varepsilon$-metric [1], the $R$-operation is formulated. It is proved that the limit of renormalized Feynman integrals exists and is covariant. Possible applications in gravity are discussed. (The paper is an English translation of the second of two articles in Russian published by the author in 1987-88: V.D. Stable exponential cosmological solutions with three different Hubble-like parameters in EGB model with a $Λ$-term

We consider a $D$-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet model with a cosmological term $Λ$ and two non-zero constants: $α_1$ and $α_2$. We restrict the metrics to be diagonal ones and study a class of solutions with exponential time dependence of three scale factors, governed by three non-coinciding Hubble-like parameters: $H \neq 0$, $h_1$ and $h_2$, obeying $m H + k_1 h_1 + k_2 h_2 \neq 0$ and corresponding to factor spaces of dimensions $m > 1$, $k_1 > 1$ and $k_2 > 1$, respectively ($D = 1 + m + k_1 + k_2$). We analyse two cases: i) $m < k_1 < k_2$ and ii) $1< k_1 = k_2 = k$, $k \neq m$. We show that in both cases the solutions exist if $α= α_2 / α_1 > 0$ and $αΛ> 0$ satisfies certain restrictions, e.g. upper and lower bounds. In case ii) explicit relations for exact solutions are found. In both cases the subclasses of stable and non-stable solutions are singled out. For $m > 3$ the case i) contains a subclass of solutions describing an exponential expansion of $3$-dimensional subspace with Hubble parameter $H > 0$ and zero variation of the effective gravitational constant $G$. The case $H = 0$ is also considered.

On exponential cosmological type solutions in the model with Gauss-Bonnet term and variation of gravitational constant

A D-dimensional gravitational model with Gauss-Bonnet term is considered. When ansatz with diagonal cosmological type metrics is adopted, we find solutions with exponential dependence of scale factors (with respect to "synchronous-like" variable) which describe an exponential expansion of "our" 3-dimensional factor-space and obey the observational constraints on the temporal variation of effective gravitational constant G. Among them there are two exact solutions in dimensions D = 22, 28 with constant G and also an infinite series of solutions in dimensions D \ge 2690 with the variation of G obeying the observational data.

On multidimensional solutions in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet model with a cosmological term

A D-dimensional gravitational model with Gauss-Bonnet and cosmological term is considered. When ansatz with diagonal cosmological metrics is adopted, we overview recent solutions for zero cosmological term and find new examples of solutions for non-zero cosmological term and D = 8 with exponential dependence of scale factors which describe an expansion of our 3-dimensional factor-space and contraction of 4-dimensional internal space.

On stability of exponential cosmological solutions with non-static volume factor in the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet model

A (n+1)-dimensional gravitational model with Gauss-Bonnet term and cosmological constant term is considered. When ansatz with diagonal cosmological metrics is adopted, the solutions with exponential dependence of scale factors: a_i ~ exp( v^i t), i = 1, ..., n, are analysed for n > 3. We study the stability of the solutions with non-static volume factor, i.e. if K(v) = \sum_{k = 1}^{n} v^k \neq 0. We prove that under certain restriction R imposed solutions with K(v) > 0 are stable while solutions with K(v) < 0 are unstable. Certain examples of stable solutions are presented. We show that the solutions with v^1 = v^2 = v^3 = H > 0 and zero variation of the effective gravitational constant are stable if the restriction R is obeyed.

On stable exponential solutions in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet cosmology with zero variation of G

A D-dimensional gravitational model with a Gauss-Bonnet term and the cosmological term Lambda is considered. Assuming diagonal cosmological metrics, we find, for certain non-zero Lambda new examples of solutions with an exponential time dependence of two scale factors, governed by two Hubble-like parameters H > 0 and h < 0, corresponding to submanifolds of dimensions m and l, respectively, with (m,l) = (4,2), (5,2), (5,3), (6,7), (7,5), (7,6) and D = 1 + m + l. Any of these solutions describes an exponential expansion of "our" 3-dimensional factor-space with Hubble parameter H and zero variation of the effective gravitational constant G. We also prove the stability of these solutions in the class of cosmological solutions with diagonal metrics.

Quantum billiards with branes on product of Einstein spaces

We consider a gravitational model in dimension D with several forms, l scalar fields and a Lambda-term. We study cosmological-type block-diagonal metrics defined on a product of an 1-dimensional interval and n oriented Einstein spaces. As an electromagnetic composite brane ansatz is adopted and certain restrictions on the branes are imposed the conformally covariant Wheeler-DeWitt (WDW) equation for the model is studied. Under certain restrictions, asymptotic solutions to the WDW equation are found in the limit of the formation of the billiard walls. These solutions reduce the problem to the so-called quantum billiard in (n + l - 1)-dimensional hyperbolic space. Several examples of quantum billiards in the model with electric and magnetic branes, e.g. corresponding to hyperbolic Kac-Moody algebras, are considered. In the case n=2 we find a set of basis asymptotic solutions to the WDW equation and derive asymptotic solutions for the metric in the classical case.

Dilatonic dyon black hole solutions

Dilatonic black hole dyon solutions with arbitrary dilatonic coupling constant $λ\neq 0$ and canonical sign $\varepsilon = +1$ for scalar field kynetic term are considered. These solutions are defined up to solutions of two master equations for moduli funtions. For $λ^2 \neq 1/2$ the solutions are extended to $\varepsilon = \pm 1$, where $\varepsilon = -1$ corresponds to ghost (phantom) scalar field. Some physical parameters of the solutions: gravitational mass, scalar charge, Hawking temperature, black hole area entropy and parametrized post-Newtonian (PPN) parameters $β$ and $γ$ are obtained. It is shown that PPN parameters do not depend on scalar field coupling $λ$ and $\varepsilon$. Two group of bounds on gravitational mass and scalar charge (for fixed and arbitrary extremality parameter $μ>0$) are found by using a certain conjecture on parameters of solutions when $1 +2 λ^2 \varepsilon > 0$. These bounds are verified numerically for certain examples. By product we are led to well-known lower bound on mass which was obtained earlier by Gibbons, Kastor, London, Townsend and Traschen by using spinor techniques.

On supersymmetric M-brane configurations with R^{1,1}_{*}/Z_2 submanifold

We obtain new examples of partially supersymmetric M-brane solutions defined on products of Ricci-flat manifolds, which contain two-dimensional Lorentzian submanifold R^{1,1}_{*}/Z_2 with one parallel spinor. The examples belong to the following configurations: M2, M5, M2-M5 and M5-M5. Among them a M2 solution with N =1/32 fractional number of preserved supersymmetries is presented. The examples with three M-branes were considered earlier in our paper with A.A. Golubtsova.

Black brane solutions governed by fluxbrane polynomials

A family of composite black brane solutions in the model with scalar fields and fields of forms is presented. The metric of any solution is defined on a manifold which contains a product of several Ricci-flat "internal" spaces. The solutions are governed by moduli functions H_s (s = 1, ..., m) obeying non-linear differential equations with certain boundary conditions imposed. These master equations are equivalent to Toda-like equations and depend upon the non-degenerate (m x m) matrix A. It was conjectured earlier that the functions H_s should be polynomials if A is a Cartan matrix for some semisimple finite-dimensional Lie algebra (of rank m). It is shown that the solutions to master equations may be found by using so-called fluxbrane polynomials which can be calculated (in principle) for any semisimple finite-dimensional Lie algebra. Examples of dilatonic charged black hole (0-brane) solutions related to Lie algebras A_1, A_2, C_2 and G_2 are considered.

On new definitions of SI base units. Why is the "atomic" kilogram preferable

We discuss the role of fundamental constants and measurement data for the Planck, Avogadro and Boltzmann constants and the elementary electric charge in connection with the planned transition to new definitions of four base SI units (the kilogram, mole, ampere and kelvin) in terms of fixed values of these constants. It is proposed to choose a new definition of any base SI unit in terms of a particular fundamental physical constant using a number of criteria, or principles, such as succession relative to the current SI, a sufficient stability of the new unit standards, and concordance between physical dimensions of the unit and the corresponding fundamental constant. It is argued that a redefinition of the kilogram and mole by fixing the values of the atomic mass unit and the Avogadro constant satisfies all these criteria and bears some more advantages against the version with fixed Planck constant: a well founded approach to definition of the ampere and the opportunity to preserve the current relationship between definitions of the mole and the kilogram. It is also argued that the kelvin can be redefined independently of the other three units.

Quantum billiards in multidimensional models with branes

Gravitational D-dimensional model with l scalar fields and several forms is considered. When cosmological type diagonal metric is chosen, an electromagnetic composite brane ansatz is adopted and certain restrictions on the branes are imposed the conformally covariant Wheeler-DeWitt (WDW) equation for the model is studied. Under certain restrictions asymptotic solutions to WDW equation are found in the limit of the formation of the billiard walls which reduce the problem to the so-called quantum billiard on the (D+ l -2)-dimensional Lobachevsky space. Two examples of quantum billiards are considered. The first one deals with 9-dimensional quantum billiard for D = 11 model with 330 four-forms which mimic space-like M2- and M5-branes of D=11 supergravity. The second one deals with the 9-dimensional quantum billiard for D =10 gravitational model with one scalar field, 210 four-forms and 120 three-forms which mimic space-like D2-, D4-, FS1- and NS5-branes in D = 10 II A supergravity. It is shown that in both examples wave functions vanish in the limit of the formation of the billiard walls (i.e. we get a quantum resolution of the singularity for 11D model) but magnetic branes could not be neglected in calculations of quantum asymptotic solutions while they are irrelevant for classical oscillating behaviour when all 120 electric branes are present.

Quantum billiards in multidimensional models with fields of forms

Bianchi type I cosmological model in (n+1)-dimensional gravity with several forms is considered. When the electric non-composite brane ansatz is adopted, the Wheeler-DeWitt (WDW) equation for the model, written in a conformally covariant form, is analyzed. Under certain restrictions, asymptotic solutions to the WDW equation near the singularity are found, which reduce the problem to the so-called quantum billiard on the (n-1)-dimensional Lobachevsky space H^{n-1}. Two examples of quantum billiards are considered: a 2-dimensional quantum billiard for a 4D model with three 2-forms and a 9D quantum billiard for an 11D model with 120 4-forms which mimics SM2-brane sector of D=11 supergravity. For certain solutions, vanishing of the wave function at the singularity is proved.

Triple M-brane configurations and preserved supersymmetries

We investigate all standard triple composite M-brane intersections defined on products of Ricci-flat manifolds for preserving supersymmetries in eleven-dimensional N =1 supergravity. The explicit formulae for computing the numbers of preserved supersymmetries are obtained, which generalize the relations for topologically trivial flat factor spaces presented in the classification by Bergshoeff et al. We obtain certain examples of configurations preserving some fractions of supersymmetries, e.g. containing such factor spaces as K3, C^2_{*}/Z_2, a four-dimensional pp-wave manifold and the two-dimensional pseudo-Euclidean manifold R^{1,1}_{*}/Z_2.

Exact solutions in gravity with a sigma model source

We consider a D-dimensional model of gravity with non-linear "scalar fields" as a matter source. The model is defined on the product manifold M, which contains n Einstein factor spaces. General cosmological type solutions to the field equations are obtained when n-1 factor spaces are Ricci-flat, e.g. when one space M_1 of dimension d_1 > 1 has nonzero scalar curvature. The solutions are defined up to solutions to geodesic equations corresponding to a sigma model target space. Several examples of sigma models are presented. A subclass of spherically-symmetric solutions is studied and a restricted version of "no-hair theorem" for black holes is proved. For the case d_1 =2 a subclass of latent soliton solutions is singled out.

The sigma-model approach and exact solutions with intersecting composite branes (e.g., solutions with harmonic functions and black brane ones) with intersection rules related to non-singular Kac-Moody (KM) algebras (e.g. hyperbolic ones) are considered. On anisotropic Gauss-Bonnet cosmologies in (n+1) dimensions, governed by an n-dimensional Finslerian 4-metric

The (n +1)-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) model is considered. For diagonal cosmological metrics, the equations of motion are written as a set of Lagrange equations with the effective Lagrangian containing two "minisuperspace" metrics on R^n: a 2-metric of pseudo-Euclidean signature and a Finslerian 4-metric proportional to the n-dimensional Berwald-Moor 4-metric. For the case of the "pure" Gauss-Bonnet model, two exact solutions are presented, those with power-law and exponential dependences of the scale factors (w.r.t. the synchronous time variable). (The power-law solution was considered earlier by N. Deruelle, A. Toporensky, P. Tretyakov, and S. Pavluchenko.) In the case of EGB cosmology, it is shown that for any non-trivial solution with an exponential dependence of scale factors, a_i(τ) = A_i exp(v^i τ), there are no more than three different numbers among v^1, ..., v^n.

On cosmological-type solutions in multi-dimensional model with Gauss-Bonnet term

A (n + 1)-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) model is considered. For diagonal cosmological-type metrics, the equations of motion are reduced to a set of Lagrange equations. The effective Lagrangian contains two "minisuperspace" metrics on R^n. The first one is the well-known 2-metric of pseudo-Euclidean signature and the second one is the Finslerian 4-metric that is proportional to n-dimensional Berwald-Moor 4-metric. When a "synchronous-like" time gauge is considered the equations of motion are reduced to an autonomous system of first-order differential equations. For the case of the "pure" Gauss-Bonnet model, two exact solutions with power-law and exponential dependence of scale factors (with respect to "synchronous-like" variable) are obtained. (In the cosmological case the power-law solution was considered earlier in papers of N. Deruelle, A. Toporensky, P. Tretyakov and S. Pavluchenko.) A generalization of the effective Lagrangian to the Lowelock case is conjectured. This hypothesis implies existence of exact solutions with power-law and exponential dependence of scale factors for the "pure" Lowelock model of m-th order.

On multidimensional analogs of Melvin's solution for classical series of Lie algebras

A multidimensional generalization of Melvin's solution for an arbitrary simple Lie algebra $\cal G$ is presented. The gravitational model contains n 2-forms and $l \geq n$ scalar fields, wheren is the rank of $\cal G$. The solution is governed by a set of n functions obeying n ordinary differential equations with certain boundary conditions. It was conjectured earlier that these functions should be polynomials (the so-called fluxbrane polynomials). A program (in Maple) for calculating of these polynomials for classical series of Lie algebras is suggested (see Appendix). The polynomials corresponding to the Lie algebra D_4 are obtained. It is conjectured that the polynomials for A_n-, B_n- and C_n-series may be obtained from polynomials for D_{n+1}-series by using certain reduction formulas.

On the "scattering law" for Kasner parameters in the model with one-component anisotropic fluid

A multidimensional cosmological type model with 1-component anisotropic fluid is considered. An exact solution is obtained. This solution is defined on a product manifold containing n Ricci-flat factor spaces. We singled out a special solution governed by the function cosh. It is shown that this special solution has Kasner-like asymptotics in the limits τ\to + 0 and τ\to + \infty, where τis a synchronous time variable. A relation between two sets of Kasner parameters α_{\infty} and α_{0} is found. This formula (of "scattering law") is coinciding with that obtained earlier for the S-brane solution (when scalar fields are absent).

Toda p-brane black holes and polynomials related to Lie algebras

Black hole generalized p-brane solutions for a wide class of intersection rules are obtained. The solutions are defined on a manifold that contains a product of n - 1 Ricci-flat internal spaces. They are defined up to a set of functions H_s obeying non-linear differential equations equivalent to Toda-type equations with certain boundary conditions imposed. A conjecture on polynomial structure of governing functions H_s for intersections related to semisimple Lie algebras is suggested. This conjecture is proved for Lie algebras: A_m, C_{m+1}, m > 0. For simple Lie algebras the powers of polynomials coincide with the components of twice the dual Weyl vector in the basis of simple coroots. The coefficients of polynomials depend upon the extremality parameter μ>0. In the extremal case μ= 0 such polynomials were considered previously by H. Lü, J. Maharana, S. Mukherji and C.N. Pope. Explicit formulas for A_2-solution are obtained. Post-Newtonian parameters for general black hole and spherically symmetric p-brane solutions

It is shown that "beta" does not depend but "gamma" depends on brane intersections. Billiard Representation for Multidimensional Cosmology with Intersecting p-branes near the Singularity

Multidimensional model describing the cosmological evolution of n Einstein spaces in the theory with l scalar fields and forms is considered. When electro-magnetic composite p-brane ansatz is adopted, and certain restrictions on the parameters of the model are imposed, the dynamics of the model near the singularity is reduced to a billiard on the (N-1)-dimensional Lobachevsky space, N = n+l. The geometrical criterion for the finiteness of the billiard volume and its compactness is used. This criterion reduces the problem to the problem of illumination of (N-2)-dimensional sphere by point-like sources. Some examples with billiards of finite volume and hence oscillating behaviour near the singularity are considered. Among them examples with square and triangle 2-dimensional billiards (e.g. that of the Bianchi-IX model) and a 4-dimensional billiard in ``truncated'' D = 11 supergravity model (without the Chern-Simons term) are considered. It is shown that the inclusion of the Chern-Simons term destroys the confining of a billiard.

The action contains $m = 2^n -1$ dilatonic scalar fields $ϕ^I$ and $m$ (antisymmetric) forms $A^I$. When all fields and scale factors of the metric depend (essentially) on the point of $M_0$ and any $A^I$ is "proportional" to the volume form of submanifold $M_{i_1} \times ... \times M_{i_k}$, $1 \leq i_1 < ... < i_k \leq n$, the sigma-model representation is obtained. A family of "Majumdar-Papapetrou type" solutions are obtained, when all $M_ν$ are Ricci-flat. A special class of solutions (related to the solution of some Diophantus equation on dimensions of $M_ν$) is singled out. Some examples of intersecting p-branes (e.g. solution with seven Euclidean 2-branes for D = 11 supergravity) are considered.}

Billiard Representation for Multidimensional Cosmology with Multicomponent Perfect Fluid near the Singularity

The multidimensional cosmological model describing the evolution of $n$ Einstein spaces in the presence of multicomponent perfect fluid is considered. When certain restrictions on the parameters of the model are imposed, the dynamics of the model near the singularity is reduced to a billiard on the $(n-1)$-dimensional Lobachevsky space $H^{n-1}$. The geometrical criterion for the finiteness of the billiard volume and its compactness is suggested. This criterion reduces the problem to the problem of illumination of $(n-2)$-dimensional sphere $S^{n-2}$ by point-like sources. Some generalization of the considered scheme (including scalar field and quantum generalizations) are considered.

Multidimensional Cosmology with $m$-Component Perfect Fluid

A cosmological model describing the evolution of $n$ Einstein spaces $(n>1)$ with $m$-component perfect-fluid matter is considered. When all spaces are Ricci-flat and for any $α$-th component the pressures in all spaces are proportional to the density: $p_{i}^{(α)} = (1- h_{i}^{(α)}) ρ^{(α)}$, $h_{i}^{(α)}$ = const, the Einstein and Wheeler-DeWitt equations are integrated in the cases: i) $m=1$, for all $h_{i}^{(α)}$; ii) $m > 1$, for some special sets of $h_{i}^{(α)}$. For $m=1$ the quantum wormhole solutions are also obtained. \\
