Obliquely Scrutinizing a Hidden SM-like Gauge Model

In view of the recent high precision measurement of the Standard Model $W$ boson mass at the CDF II detector, we compute the contributions to the oblique parameters $S$, $T$ and $U$ coming from the two additional Higgs doublets (one inert and one hidden) as well as the hidden neutral dark gauge bosons and extra heavy fermions in the gauged two-Higgs-doublet model (G2HDM). While the effects from the hidden Higgs doublet and new heavy fermions are found to be minuscule, the hidden gauge sector $SU(2)_H \times U(1)_X$ with gauge coupling strength $\gtrsim 10^{-2}$ and gauge boson mass $\gtrsim 100$ GeV can readily explain the $W$ boson mass anomaly but nevertheless excluded by the dilepton high-mass resonance searches at the Large Hadron Collider. On the other hand, the new global fits to the oblique parameters due to the new $W$ boson mass measurement can give discernible impacts on the mass splitting and mixing angle for the inert Higgs doublet in G2HDM. We also study the impact to the signal strength of diphoton mode of the 125 GeV Higgs boson $h \to γγ$ and the detectability of the yet to observe process $h \to Z γ$ at the High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider. Current constraints for the dark matter candidate $W^\prime$ including the dark matter relic density, dark matter direct detections and invisible Higgs decays are also taken into account in this study.

Circularly Polarized Gamma Rays in Effective Dark Matter Theory

We study the loop-induced circularly polarized gamma rays from dark matter annihilation using the effective dark matter theory approach. Both neutral scalar and fermionic dark matter annihilating into monochromatic diphoton and $Z$-photon final states are considered. To generate the circular polarization asymmetry, $P$ and $CP$ symmetries must be violated in the couplings between dark matter and Standard Model fermions inside the loop with non-vanishing Cutkosky cut. The asymmetry can be sizable especially for $Z$-photon final state for which asymmetry of nearly $90\%$ can be reached. We discuss the prospect for detecting the circular polarization asymmetry of the gamma-ray flux from dark matter annihilation in the Galactic Center in future gamma-ray polarimetry experiments.

Complex Scalar Dark Matter in G2HDM

The complex scalar dark matter (DM) candidate in the gauged two Higgs doublet model (G2HDM), stabilized by a peculiar hidden parity ($h$-parity), is studied in detail. We explore the parameter space for the DM candidate by taking into account the most recent DM constraints from various experiments, in particular, the PLANCK relic density measurement and the current DM direct detection limit from XENON1T. We separate our analysis in three possible compositions for the mixing of the complex scalar. We first constrain our parameter space with the vacuum stability and perturbative unitarity conditions for the scalar potential, LHC Higgs measurements, plus Drell-Yan and electroweak precision test constraints on the gauge sector. We find that DM dominated by composition of the inert doublet scalar is completely excluded by further combining the previous constraints with both the latest results from PLANCK and XENON1T. We also demonstrate that the remaining parameter space with two other DM compositions can be further tested by indirect detection like the future CTA gamma-ray telescope.

Dark Matter Production Associated With a Heavy Quarkonium at B Factories

We investigate light dark matter production associated with a heavy quarkonium at B factories in a model-independent way by adopting the effective field theory approach for the interaction of dark matter with standard model particles. We consider the effective operators for the dark matter-heavy quark interaction, which are relevant to the production of dark matter associated with a heavy quarkonium. We calculate the cross sections for dark matter production associated with a J/psi or eta_c to compare with the standard model backgrounds. We set bounds on the energy scale of new physics for various effective operators and also obtain the corresponding limits for the dark matter-nucleon scattering cross sections for light dark matter with mass of the order of a few GeV.

G2HDM : Gauged Two Higgs Doublet Model

A novel model embedding the two Higgs doublets in the popular two Higgs doublet models into a doublet of a non-abelian gauge group $SU(2)_H$ is presented. The Standard Model $SU(2)_L$ right-handed fermion singlets are paired up with new heavy fermions to form $SU(2)_H$ doublets, while $SU(2)_L$ left-handed fermion doublets are singlets under $SU(2)_H$. Distinctive features of this anomaly-free model are: (1) Electroweak symmetry breaking is induced from spontaneous symmetry breaking of $SU(2)_H$ via its triplet vacuum expectation value; (2) One of the Higgs doublet can be inert, with its neutral component being a dark matter candidate as protected by the $SU(2)_H$ gauge symmetry instead of a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry in the usual case; (3) Unlike Left-Right Symmetric Models, the complex gauge fields $(W_1^{\prime}\mp i W_2^{\prime})$ (along with other complex scalar fields) associated with the $SU(2)_H$ do {\it not} carry electric charges, while the third component $W^{\prime}_3$ can mix with the hypercharge $U(1)_Y$ gauge field and the third component of $SU(2)_L$; (4) Absence of tree level flavour changing neutral current is guaranteed by gauge symmetry; and {\it etc}. In this work, we concentrate on the mass spectra of scalar and gauge bosons in the model. Constraints from previous $Z^\prime$ data at LEP and the Large Hadron Collider measurements of the Standard Model Higgs mass, its partial widths of $γγ$ and $Zγ$ modes are discussed.

Gauged Two Higgs Doublet Model confronts the LHC 750 GeV di-photon anomaly

In light of the recent 750 GeV diphoton anomaly observed at the LHC, we study the possibility of accommodating the deviation from the standard model prediction based on the recently proposed Gauged Two Higgs Doublet Model. The model embeds two Higgs doublets into a doublet of a non-abelian gauge group $SU(2)_H$, while the standard model $SU(2)_L$ right-handed fermion singlets are paired up with new heavy fermions to form $SU(2)_H$ doublets, and $SU(2)_L$ left-handed fermion doublets are singlets under $SU(2)_H$. An $SU(2)_H$ scalar doublet, which provides masses to the new heavy fermions as well as the $SU(2)_H$ gauge bosons, can be produced via gluon fusion and subsequently decays into two photons with the new fermions circulating the triangle loops to account for the deviation from the standard model prediction.

Lepton Flavor Violating Decays of Neutral Higgses in Extended Mirror Fermion Model

We perform the one-loop induced charged lepton flavor violating decays of the neutral Higgses in an extended mirror fermion model with non-sterile electroweak-scale right-handed neutrinos and a horizontal $A_4$ symmetry in the lepton sector. We demonstrate that for the 125 GeV scalar $h$ there is tension between the recent LHC result ${\cal B}(h \to τμ) \sim $ 1% and the stringent limits on the rare processes $μ\to e γ$ and $τ\to (μ$ or $e) γ$ from low energy experiments.

Radiative Model of Neutrino Mass with Neutrino Interacting MeV Dark Matter

We consider the radiative generation of neutrino mass through the interactions of neutrinos with MeV dark matter. We construct a realistic renormalizable model with one scalar doublet and one complex singlet together with three light singlet Majorana fermions, all transforming under a dark U(1) symmetry which breaks softly to Z_2. We study in detail the scalar sector which supports this specific scenario and its rich phenomenology.

Disentangling the Spin-Parity of a Resonance via the Gold-Plated Decay Mode

Searching for new resonances and finding out their properties is an essential part of any existing or future particle physics experiment. The nature of a new resonance is characterized by its spin, charge conjugation, parity, and its couplings with the existing particles of the Standard Model. If a new resonance is found in the four lepton final state produced via two intermediate $Z$ bosons, the resonance could be a new heavy scalar or a $Z'$ boson or even a higher spin particle. In such cases the step by step methodology as enunciated in this paper can be followed to determine the spin, parity and the coupling to two $Z$ bosons of the parent particles, in a fully model-independent way. In our approach we show how three uni-angular distributions and few experimentally measurable observables can conclusively tell us about the spin, parity as well as the couplings of the new resonance to two $Z$ bosons. We have performed a numerical analysis to validate our approach and showed how the uniangular observables can be used to disentangle the spin parity as well as coupling of the resonance.

Glueball Production via Gluonic Penguin B Decays

We study glueball $G$ production in gluonic penguin decay $B\to G + X_s$, using the next-to-leading order $b\to s g^*$ gluonic penguin interaction and effective couplings of a glueball to two perturbative gluons. Subsequent decays of a scalar glueball are described by using techniques of effective chiral Lagrangian to incorporate the interaction between a glueball and pseudoscalar mesons. Mixing effects between the pure glueball with other mesons are considered. Identifying the $f_0(1710)$ to be a scalar glueball, we find that both the top and charm penguin to be important and obtain a sizable branching ratio for $B\to f_0(1710) + X_s$ of order $1.3\times 10^{-4} (f/0.07\mbox{GeV}^{-1})^2$, where the effective coupling strength $f$ is estimated to be $0.07$ GeV$^{-1}$ using experimental data for the branching ratio of $f_0(1710) \to K \overline K$ based on chiral Lagrangian estimate. An alternative perturbative QCD based estimation of $f$ is a factor of 20 larger, which would imply a much enhanced branching ratio. Glueball production from this rare semi-inclusive $B$ decay can be probed at the LHCb and Belle II to narrow down the allowed parameter space. Similar branching ratio is expected for the pseudoscalar glueball. We also briefly comment on the case of vector and tensor glueballs.

Interpretations of the ATLAS Diboson Anomaly

Recently, the ATLAS Collaboration recorded an interesting anomaly in diboson production with excesses at the diboson invariant mass around 2 TeV in boosted jets of all the $WZ$, $W^+ W^-$, and $ZZ$ channels. We offer a theoretical interpretation of the anomaly using a phenomenological right-handed model with extra $W'$ and $Z'$ bosons. Constraints from narrow total decay widths, dijet cross sections, and $W/Z + H$ production are taken into account. We also comment on a few other possibilities.

Lepton Flavor Violating Radiative Decays in EW-Scale $ν_R$ Model: An Update

We perform an updated analysis for the one-loop induced lepton flavor violating radiative decays $l_i \to l_j γ$ in an extended mirror model. Mixing effects of the neutrinos and charged leptons constructed with a horizontal $A_4$ symmetry are also taken into account. Current experimental limit and projected sensitivity on the branching ratio of $μ\to e γ$ are used to constrain the parameter space of the model. Calculations of two related observables, the electric and magnetic dipole moments of the leptons, are included. Implications concerning the possible detection of mirror leptons at the LHC and the ILC are also discussed.

The Effective Gravitational Theory at Large Scale with Lorentz Violation

The dipole anomaly in the power spectrum of CMB may indicate that the Lorentz boost invarianc is violated at cosmic scale. We assume that the Lorentz symmetry is violated partly from the scale of galaxy. We employ the symmetry of very special relativity as an example to illustrate the Lorentz violation effect by constructing the corresponding gauge theories as the effective gravitational theory at the large scale. We find the common feather of these gravitation models is the non-triviality of spacetime torsion and contorsion even if the matter source is of only scalar matter. The presence of non-trivial contorsion contributes an effective enenrgy-momentum distribution which may account for part of dark matter effect.

An Updated Analysis of Inert Higgs Doublet Model in light of the Recent Results from LUX, PLANCK, AMS-02 and LHC

In light of the recent discovery by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) of a Higgs-like particle with a narrow mass range of 125-126 GeV, we perform an updated analysis on one of the popular scalar dark matter models, the Inert Higgs Doublet Model (IHDM). We take into account in our likelihood analysis of various experimental constraints, including recent relic density measurement, dark matter direct and indirect detection constraints as well as the latest collider constraints on the invisible decay width of the Higgs boson and monojet search at the LHC. It is shown that if the invisible decay of the standard model Higgs boson is open, LHC as well as direct detection experiments like LUX and XENON100 could put stringent limits on the Higgs boson couplings to dark matter. We find that the most favoured parameter space for IHDM corresponds to dark matter with a mass less than 100 GeV or so. In particular, the best-fit points are at the dark matter mass around 70 GeV where the invisible Higgs decay to dark matter is closed. Scalar dark matter in the higher mass range of 0.5-4 TeV is also explored in our study. Projected sensitivities for the future experiments of monojet at LHC-14, XENON1T and AMS-02 one year antiproton flux are shown to put further constraints on the existing parameter space of IHDM.

Associated Production of Higgs at Linear Collider in the Inert Higgs Doublet Model

We study the correlation between the Standard Model Higgs decay $h\to γγ$ and $h\to Z γ$ in the Inert Higgs Doublet Model. It is found that these two one-loop-induced decays are positively correlated, with the later channel having slightly smaller branching ratio than the former one. At the Linear Collider, we study the interplay of the off-shell extension of these two amplitudes that contributed significantly to the associated production of the Higgs boson with a photon in the process $e^+ e^- \to γh$ and with an electron in the process $e^-γ\to e^- h$ in the $s$ and $t$ channels respectively via both $γ$ and $Z$ exchange for each process.

Dark Photon as Fractional Cosmic Neutrino Masquerader

Recently, Weinberg proposed a Higgs portal model with a spontaneously broken global $U(1)$ symmetry in which Goldstone bosons may be masquerading as fractional cosmic neutrinos. We extend the model by gauging the $U(1)$ symmetry. This gives rise to the so-called dark photon and dark Higgs. The dark photons can constitute about 0.912 (0.167) to the effective number of light neutrino species if they decouple from the thermal bath before the pions become non-relativistic and after (before) the QCD transition. Restriction on the parameter space of the portal coupling and the dark Higgs mass is obtained from the freeze-out condition of the dark photons. Combining with the collider data constraints on the invisible width of the standard model Higgs requires the dark Higgs mass to be less than a few GeV.

Multilepton Higgs Decays through the Dark Portal

The U(1)_D gauge sector containing one dark Higgs boson h_D and one dark photon γ_D may be explored through the decays of the 126 GeV particle discovered at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), assumed here as the heavier mass eigenstate h_1 in the mixing of the standard model h with h_D. The various decays of h_1 to γ_D γ_D, h_2 h_2, h_2 γ_D γ_D and h_2 h_2 h_2 would yield multilepton final states through the mixing of γ_D with the photon and the decay h_2 \to γ_D γ_D, where h_2 is the lighter dark Higgs. Future searches for signals of multilepton jets at the LHC may reveal the existence of this possible dark sector governed simply by the original Abelian Higgs model.

Binary Icosahedral Flavor Symmetry for Four Generations of Quarks and Leptons

To include the quark sector, the $A_{5}\equiv I$ (icosahedron) four generation lepton model is extended to a binary icosahedral symmetry $I'$ flavor model. We find the masses of fermions, including the heavy sectors, can be accommodated. At leading order the CKM matrix is the identity and the PMNS matrix, resulting from same set of vacua, corresponds to tribimaximal mixings.

Collider Constraints on the Dark Matter Interpretation of the CDMS II Results

The recent observation of three events by the CDMS II experiment can be interpreted as a 8.6 GeV dark matter scatters elastically with the nucleons inside the silicon detectors with a spin-independent cross section of 1.9 x 10^-41 cm^2. We employ the effective dark matter interaction approach to fit to the interpreted cross section, and make predictions for monojet and monophoton production at the LHC with the fitted parameters. We show that some of the operators are already ruled out by current data while the others can be further probed in the upcoming 14 TeV run of the LHC.

Collider Signatures of Goldstone Bosons

Recently Weinberg suggested that Goldstone bosons arising from the spontaneous breakdown of some global hidden symmetries can interact weakly in the early Universe and account for a fraction of the effective number of neutrino species N_eff, which has been reported persistently 1 σaway from its expected value of three. In this work, we study in some details a number of experimental constraints on this interesting idea based on the simplest possibility of a global U(1), as studied by Weinberg. We work out the decay branching ratios of the associated light scalar field $σ$ and suggest a possible collider signature at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In some corners of the parameter space, the scalar field σcan decay into a pair of pions with a branching ratio of order O(1)% while the rest is mostly a pair of Goldstone bosons. The collider signature would be gluon fusion into the standard model Higgs boson gg -> H or associated production with a W gauge boson q q'-bar -> H W, followed by H -> σσ-> (ππ) (αα), where αis the Goldstone boson.

Diphoton Rate of the Standard-Model-Like Higgs Boson in the Extra U(1) Extended MSSM

Motivated by the excess in the diphoton production rate of the Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), we investigate the possibility that one of the CP-even Higgs bosons of the extra U(1) extended minimal supersymmetric standard model can give a consistent result. We scan the parameter space for a standard-model-like Higgs boson such that the mass is in the range of 124-127 GeV and the production rate σxB of the WW*, ZZ* modes are consistent with the standard model (SM) values while that of γγis enhanced relative to the SM value. We find that the SM-like Higgs boson is mostly the lightest CP-even Higgs boson and it has a strong mixing with the second lightest one, which is largely singlet-like. The implications on Zγproduction rate and properties of the other Higgs bosons are also studied.

Implications on the Heavy CP-even Higgs Boson from Current Higgs Data

The current Large Hadron Collider data indicates that the newly observed resonance has the WW and ZZ modes consistent with the standard model Higgs boson, while the γγmode is about 1.2 - 2 times that of the standard model prediction and the tau-pair mode is suppressed. If this pattern persists in the upcoming data, it would be a sign for physics beyond the standard model. In the type II two-Higgs-doublet model, it is the region where \sinα\approx 0 and a moderately large \tanβ= 10 - 20 that the lighter CP-even Higgs boson can accommodate the current data. We note that in this region the heavier CP-even Higgs boson must have a large decay branching ratio into tau pairs. We find that this heavier Higgs boson can be observable in the associated production with a b\bar b pair and through the decay into a tau pair.

Supernova Bounds on Weinberg's Goldstone Bosons

Recently, Weinberg proposed a scenario where Goldstone bosons may be masquerading as fractional cosmic neutrinos. We calculate the energy loss rates through the emission of these Goldstone bosons in a post-collapse supernova core. Invoking the well established emissivity bound from the Supernova 1987A observations and simulations, we find that nuclear bremsstrahlung processes can notably impose a bound on the Goldstone boson coupling to the Standard Model Higgs, $g$, dependent on the mass of the associated radial field, $m_r$. For $m_r$ large enough compared with the temperature in the post-collapse supernova core, our bound is $|g| \lesssim 0.011\, (m_r / 500~{\rm MeV})^2$, very competitive to that derived from collider experiments.

WW Scattering in the Era of Post Higgs Discovery

More evidences have now been collected at the Large Hadron Collider suggesting the new 125 - 126 GeV boson is likely the long sought Higgs boson in the standard model. One pressing question continued being asked by theorists is whether this Higgs boson is a lone player responsible for the full electroweak symmetry breaking. Current data still allow room for additional Higgs bosons or some other UV physics that may play a partial role in electroweak symmetry breaking as well. We use the WW scattering to investigate such a possibility, using the two-Higgs-doublet model as a prototype. The WW scattering becomes strong when the extra Higgs bosons are very heavy. We study the sensitivity of the partially strong WW scattering signals at the 13 TeV Large Hadron Collider.

Could the excess seen at 124-126 GeV be due to the Randall-Sundrum Radion?

Current Higgs boson searches in various channels at the LHC point to an excess at around 124-126 GeV due to a possibly standard-model-like Higgs boson. If one examines more closely the channels (γγ, WW*, and ZZ*) that have excess, this "Higgs boson" may be the Randall-Sundrum radion ϕ. Because of the trace anomaly the radion has stronger couplings to the photon and gluon pairs. Thus, it will enhance the production rates into gg and γγwhile those for WW*, ZZ* and b\bar b are reduced relative to their standard-model values. We show that it can match well with the data from CMS for m_ϕ= 124 GeV and the required scale Λ_ϕ~ <ϕ> is about 0.68 TeV.

Distinguishing Various Models of the 125 GeV Boson in Vector Boson Fusion

The hint of a new particle around 125 GeV at the LHC through the decay modes of diphoton and a number of others may point to quite a number of possibilities. While at the LHC the dominant production mechanism for the Higgs boson of the standard model and some other extensions is via the gluon fusion process, the alternative vector boson fusion is more sensitive to electroweak symmetry breaking through the gauge-Higgs couplings and therefore can be used to probe for models beyond the standard model. In this work, using the well known dijet-tagging technique to single out the vector boson fusion mechanism, we investigate its capability to discriminate a number of models that have been suggested to give an enhanced inclusive diphoton production rate, including the standard model Higgs boson, fermiophobic Higgs boson, Randall-Sundrum radion, inert-Higgs-doublet model, two-Higgs-doublet model, and the MSSM. The rates in vector-boson fusion can give more information of the underlying models to help distinguishing among the models.

Global Constraints on Effective Dark Matter Interactions: Relic Density, Direct Detection, Indirect Detection, and Collider

An effective interaction approach is used to describe the interactions between the spin 0 or spin 1/2 dark matter particle and the degrees of freedom of the standard model. This approach is applicable to those models in which the dark matter particles do not experience the standard-model interactions, e.g., hidden-sector models. We explore the effects of these effective interaction operators on (i) dark matter relic density, (ii) spin-independent and spin-dependent dark matter-nucleon scattering cross sections, (iii) cosmic antiproton and gamma ray fluxes from the galactic halo due to dark matter annihilation, and (iv) monojet and monophoton production plus missing energy at the Tevatron and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). We combine the experimental data of relic density from WMAP7, spin-independent cross section from XENON100, spin-dependent cross section from XENON10, ZEPLIN-III, and SIMPLE, cosmic antiproton flux from PAMELA, cosmic gamma-ray flux from ${\it Fermi}$-LAT, and the monojet and monophoton data from the Tevatron and the LHC, to put the most comprehensive limits on each effective operator.

Global Study of the Simplest Scalar Phantom Dark Matter Model

We present a global study of the simplest scalar phantom dark matter model. The best fit parameters of the model are determined by simultaneously imposing (i) relic density constraint from WMAP, (ii) 225 live days data from direct experiment XENON100, (iii) upper limit of gamma-ray flux from Fermi-LAT indirect detection based on dwarf spheroidal satellite galaxies, and (iv) the Higgs boson candidate with a mass about 125 GeV and its invisible branching ratio no larger than 40% if the decay of the Higgs boson into a pair of dark matter is kinematically allowed. The allowed parameter space is then used to predict annihilation cross sections for gamma-ray lines, event rates for three processes mono-b jet, single charged lepton and two charged leptons plus missing energies at the Large Hadron Collider, as well as to evaluate the muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment for the model.

Mimicking the Standard Model Higgs Boson in UMSSM

Motivated by the recent results in the standard model (SM) Higgs boson search at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) we investigate the SM-like CP-even Higgs boson of the U(1)'-extended minimal supersymmetric standard model (UMSSM) and its branching ratio into the b b-bar, W W*, and χ^0_1 χ^0_1 modes. In the Summer 2011, a 2 sigma excess was reported in the channel H -> W W* -> l+ nu l- nu-bar around 130 - 140 GeV range. Later on in December 2011 announcements were made that an excess was seen in the 124-126 GeV range, while the SM Higgs boson above 131 GeV up to about 600 GeV is ruled out. We examine two scenarios of these mass ranges: (i) 130 GeV < M_{h_{SM-like}} < 141 GeV and show that the Higgs boson can decay into invisible neutralinos to evade the SM bound; and (ii) 120 GeV < M_{h_{\rm SM-like}} < 130 GeV and show that the Higgs boson can avoid decaying into neutralinos and thus gives enhanced rates into visible particles. We use the ηmodel of E_6 with TeV scale supersymmetry to illustrate the idea by scanning the parameter space to realize these two different scenarios.

Various Models Mimicking the SM Higgs Boson

This review is based on the talk presented at the SUSY 2012 (Beijing). The new particle around 125 GeV observed at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is almost consistent with the standard model Higgs boson, except that the diphoton decay mode may be excessive. We summarize a number of possibilities. While at the LHC the dominant production mechanism for the Higgs boson of the standard model and some other extensions is via the gluon fusion process, the alternative vector-boson fusion is more sensitive to electroweak symmetry breaking. Using the well known dijet-tagging technique to single out the vector-boson fusion mechanism, we investigate potential of vector-boson fusion to discriminate a number of models suggested to give an enhanced inclusive diphoton production rate.

An A_5 Model of Four Lepton Generations

We study the lepton sector of a four generations model based on the discrete flavor group $A_5$ (the even permutation of five objects). The best features of the three family $A_4$ model survive, including the tribimaximal pattern of three generation neutrino mixings. At leading order the three light neutrino mass relations of $m_{ν_1} = m_{ν_3}$ and $m_{ν_2} = 0$ are predicted. The splitting of the neutrino masses can be naturally obtained as a result of the breaking of $A_{5}$ down to $A_4$ and a degenerate spectrum is preferred in our model. In our $A_5$ model, the electron mass is zero at tree level, but calculable through quantum corrections.

Gamma-ray Constraints on Effective Interactions of the Dark Matter

Using an effective interaction approach to describe the interactions between the dark matter particle and the light degrees of freedom of the standard model, we calculate the gamma-ray flux due to the annihilation of the dark matter into quarks, followed by fragmentation into neutral pions which subsequently decay into photons. By comparison to the mid-latitude data released from the Fermi-LAT experiment, we obtain useful constraints on the size of the effective interactions and they are found to be comparable to those deduced from collider, gamma-ray line and anti-matter search experiments. However, the two operators induced by scalar and vector exchange among fermionic dark matter and light quarks that contribute to spin-independent cross sections are constrained more stringently by the recent XENON100 data.

Global Study of Electron-Quark Unparticle Interactions

We perform a global fit on parity-conserving electron-quark interactions via spin-1 unparticle exchange. Besides the peculiar features of unparticle exchange due to non-integral values for the scaling dimension d_U and a non-trivial phase factor exp (-id_U π) associated with a time-like unparticle propagator, the energy dependence s^{-2 + d_U} of the unparticle contributions in the scattering amplitudes are also taken into account. The high energy data sets taken into consideration in our analysis are from (1) deep inelastic scattering at high Q^2 from ZEUS and H1, (2) Drell-Yan production at Run II of CDF and DO, and (3) e^+e^- --> hadrons at LEPII. The hadronic data at LEPII by itself indicated a 3-4 sigma preference of new physics over the Standard Model. However, when all data sets are combined, no preference for unparticle effects can be given. We thus deduce an improved 95% confidence level limit on the unparticle energy scale Λ_\U.

Supersymmetric Decays of the Z' Boson

The decay of the Z' boson into supersymmetric particles is studied. We investigate how these supersymmetric modes affect the current limits from the Tevatron and project the expected sensitivities at the LHC. Employing three representative supersymmetric Z' models, namely, E_6, U(1)_{B-L}, and the sequential model, we show that the current limits of the Z' mass from the Tevatron could be reduced substantially due to the weakening of the branching ratio into leptonic pairs. The mass reach for the E_6 Z' bosons is about 1.3-1.5 TeV at the LHC-7 (1 fb^{-1}), about 2.5 - 2.6 TeV at the LHC-10 (10 fb^{-1}), and about 4.2 - 4.3 TeV at the LHC-14 (100 fb^{-1}). A similar mass reach for the U(1)_{B-L} Z' is also obtained. We also examine the potential of identifying various supersymmetric decay modes of the Z' boson because it may play a crucial role in the detailed dynamics of supersymmetry breaking.

Top Quark Forward-Backward Asymmetry in the Large Invariant Mass Region

The forward-backward asymmetry (FBA) in top-pair production that was observed in 2008 gets a boost in a recent CDF publication. Not only has the FBA further been confirmed, but also distributional preferences are shown. Strikingly, the FBA is the most sizable in the large $M_{t\bar t}$ invariant mass region and in the large rapidity difference $|Δy|$ region. Here we used our previously proposed $t$-channel exchanged $W'$ boson to explain the new observations. We show that a new particle exchanged in the $t$-channel generically gives rise to such observations. Furthermore, we show that the proposed $W'$ can be directly produced in association with a top quark at the Tevatron and the LHC. We perform a signal-background analysis and show that such a $W'$ is readily observed at the Tevatron with a 10 fb$^{-1}$ luminosity and at the LHC-7 with just a 100 pb$^{-1}$ luminosity.

Hidden Sector Dirac Dark Matter, Stueckelberg Z' Model and the CDMS and XENON Experiments

For the milli-charged Dirac dark matter in the Stueckelberg Z' model, we discuss the contributions from the vector couplings of the dark matter with the neutral gauge bosons to the spin-independent scattering cross section in the direct detections. We also compute the effective coupling between the fermionic dark matter particle and the standard model Higgs boson generated through a triangular loop of Z and/or Z' bosons which may contribute to the spin-independent scattering cross section at the quantum level. We show that the latter contribution is consistent with the most recent experimental limits from CDMS II and XENON100. In the case that the dark matter particle carries a milli-charge of order O(10^{-3}e), we found that it would lose all its kinetic energy by colliding with nucleons in the atmosphere before reaching the detector. Even though we use the Stueckelberg Z' model for illustration, the results we obtain are rather general and applicable to other Z-Z' portal-type hidden-sector models as well.

Longitudinal Weak Gauge Bosons Scattering in Hidden Z' Models

Longitudinal weak gauge boson scattering has been well known as a powerful method to probe the underlying mechanism of the electroweak symmetry breaking sector of the Standard Model. We point out that longitudinal weak gauge boson scattering is also sensitive to the gauge sector when the non-Abelian trilinear and quartic couplings of the Standard Model Z boson are modified due to the general mixings with another Z' boson in the hidden sector and possibly with the photon as well. In particular, these mixings can lead to a partially strong scattering effect in the channels of W^\pm_L W^\pm_L \to W^\pm_L W^\pm_L and W^\pm_L W^\mp_L \to W^\pm_L W^\mp_L which can be probed at the Large Hadron Collider. We study this effect in a simple U(1) extension of the Standard Model recently suggested in the literature that includes both the symmetry breaking Higgs mechanism as well as the gauge invariant Stueckelberg mass terms for the two Abelian groups. Other types of Z' models are also briefly discussed.

Next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the top quark decay via the Flavor-Changing Neutral-Current operators with mixing effects

In this paper detailed calculations of the complete $\mathcal{O}(α_s)$ corrections to top quark decay widths $Γ(t\to q+V)$ are presented ($V=g,γ,Z$). Besides describing in detail the calculations in our previous paper (arXiv:0810.3889), we also include the mixing effects of the Flavor-Changing Neutral-Current (FCNC) operators for $t\to q+γ$ and $t\to q+Z$, which were not considered in our previous paper. The results for $t\to q+g$ are the same as in our previous paper. But the mixing effects can either be large or small, and increase or decrease the branching ratios for $t\to q+γ$ and $t\to q+Z$, depending on the values of the anomalous couplings ($κ^{g,γ,Z}_{\mathrm{tq}}/Λ$, $f^{g,γ,Z}_{\mathrm{tq}}$ and $h^{g,γ,Z}_{\mathrm{tq}}$).

The Top Window for dark matter

We investigate a scenario that the top quark is the only window to the dark matter particle. We use the effective Lagrangian approach to write down the interaction between the top quark and the dark matter particle. Requiring the dark matter satisfying the relic density we obtain the size of the effective interaction. We show that the scenario can be made consistent with the direct and indirect detection experiments by adjusting the size of the effective coupling. Finally, we calculate the production cross section for $t\bar t + χ\bar χ$ at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which will give rise to an interesting signature of a top-pair plus large missing energy.

Double-action dark matter, PAMELA and ATIC

Motivated by a two-bump (or 1-peak plus 1-hump) structure in the ATIC data, we perform a statistical analysis fitting the PAMELA and ATIC data to a dark matter model, in which the dark matter particle can undergo both annihilation and decay. Using a chi-square analysis we show that both data can be simultaneously fitted better with such a double-action dark matter particle. We use an existing neutrino mass model in literature to illustrate the idea.

Higgs boson enhancement effects on squark-pair production at the LHC

We study the Higgs boson effects on third-generation squark-pair production in proton-proton collision at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), including $\Stop \Stop^*$, $\Stop\Sbot^*$, and $\Sbot \Sbot^*$. We found that substantial enhancement can be obtained through s-channel exchanges of Higgs bosons at large $\tanβ$, at which the enhancement mainly comes from $b\bar b$, $b\bar c$, and $c\bar b$ initial states. We compute the complete set of electroweak (EW) contributions to all production channels. This completes previous computations in the literature. We found that the EW contributions can be significant and can reach up to 25% in more general scenarios and at the resonance of the heavy Higgs boson. The size of Higgs enhancement is comparable or even higher than the PDF uncertainties and so must be included in any reliable analysis. A full analytical computation of all the EW contributions is presented.

Implication on Higgs invisible width in light of the new CDMS result

With the assumption that the dominant diagram in supersymmetry for the spin-independent cross section of the dark matter particle is due to Higgs boson exchange, we obtain an upper limit on the Higgs-dark-matter coupling based on the new result of the CDMSII Collaborations. We then obtain an upper limit on the invisible width of the Higgs boson, numerically it is less than 20-120 MeV for $m_h \simeq 120 - 180$ GeV. Implications for Higgs boson search are also discussed.

Decay of Z Boson into Photon and Unparticle

We study the decay of the standard model Z boson into unparticle plus a single photon through a one-loop process. As in the anomaly type decay, only the axial-vector part of the Z coupling matching with the vector unparticle and/or the vector part of the Z coupling matching with the axial-vector unparticle can give a nonzero contribution to the decay. We show that the photon spectrum terminates at the end point in accord with Yang's theorem. Existing data on single photon production at LEP I is used to constrain the unparticle sector.

CP violation in Charged Higgs Bosons decays $H^\pm \to W^\pm (γ, Z)$ in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM)

One loop mediated charged Higgs bosons decays $H^\pm\to W^\pm V$, $V= Z, γ$ are studied in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with and without CP violating phases. We evaluate the MSSM contributions to these processes taking into account $B\to X_sγ$ constraint as well as experimental constraints on the MSSM parameters. In the MSSM, we found that in the intermediate range of $\tanβ\la 10$ and for large A_t and large $μ$, where the lightest top squark becomes very light and hence non-decoupled, the branching ratio of $H^\pm \to W^{\pm} Z$ can be of the order 10^{-3} while the branching ratio of $H^\pm \to W^{\pm} γ$ is of the order 10^{-5}. We found also that the CP violating phases of soft SUSY parameters can modify the branching ratio by about one order of magnitude. We also show that MSSM with CP violating phases lead to CP-violating asymmetry in the decays $H^+ \to W^+V$ and $H^- \to W^-V$. Such CP asymmetry can be rather large and can reach 80% in some region of parameter space.

Hidden fermion as milli-charged dark matter in Stueckelberg Z' model

We augment the hidden Stueckelberg $Z'$ model by a pair of Dirac fermions in the hidden sector, in which the $Z'$ has a coupling strength comparable to weak scale coupling. We show that this hidden fermion-antifermion pair could be a milli-charged dark matter candidate with a viable relic density. Existing terrestrial and astrophysical searches on milli-charged particles do not place severe constraints on this hidden fermion. We calculate the flux of monochromatic photons coming from the Galactic center due to pair annihilation of these milli-charged particles and show that it is within reach of the next generation $γ$-ray experiments. The characteristic signature of this theoretical endeavor is that the Stueckelberg $Z'$ boson has a large invisible width decaying into the hidden fermion-antifermion pair. We show that existing Drell-Yan data do not constrain this model yet. Various channels of singly production of this $Z'$ boson at the LHC and ILC are explored.
