Universal Dynamics of Heavy Operators in Boundary CFT$_2$

We derive a universal asymptotic formula for generic boundary conditions for the average value of the bulk-to-boundary and boundary Operator Product Expansion coefficients of any unitary, compact two-dimensional Boundary CFT (BCFT) with $c>1$. The asymptotic limit consists of taking one or more boundary primary operators -- which transform under a single copy of the Virasoro algebra -- to have parametrically large conformal dimension for fixed central charge. In particular, we find a \textit{single} universal expression that interpolates between distinct heavy regimes, exactly as in the case of bulk OPE asymptotics\cite{Collier:2019weq}. The expression depends universally on the boundary entropy and the central charge, and not on any other details of the theory. We derive these asymptotics by studying crossing symmetry of various correlation functions on higher genus Riemann surfaces with open boundaries. Essential in the derivation is the use of the irrational versions of the crossing kernels that relate holomorphic Virasoro blocks in different channels. Our results strongly suggest an extended version of the Eigenstate Thermalization Hypothesis for boundary OPE coefficients, where the hierarchy between the diagonal and non-diagonal term in the ansatz is further controlled by the boundary entropy. We finally comment on the applications of our results in the context of $\text{AdS}_3/\text{BCFT}_2$, as well as on the recent relation of BCFTs with lower dimensional models of evaporating black holes.

Double Local Quenches in 2D CFTs and Gravitational Force

In this work we extensively study the dynamics of excited states created by instantaneous local quenches at two different points, i.e., double local quenches. We focus on setups in two dimensional holographic and free Dirac fermion CFTs. We calculate the energy stress tensor and entanglement entropy for double joining and splitting local quenches. In the splitting local quenches we find an interesting oscillating behaviors. Finally, we study the energy stress tensor in double operator local quenches. In all these examples, we find that, in general, there are non-trivial interactions between the two local quenches. Especially, in holographic CFTs, the differences of the above quantities between the double local quench and the simple sum of two local quenches tend to be negative. We interpret this behavior as merely due to gravitational force in their gravity duals.

Global Spacetime Structure of Compactified Inflationary Universe

We investigate the global spacetime structure of torus de Sitter universe, which is exact de Sitter space with torus identification based on the flat chart. We show that past incomplete null geodesics in torus de Sitter universe are locally extendible. Then we give an extension of torus de Sitter universe so that at least one of the past incomplete null geodesics in the original spacetime becomes complete. However we find that extended torus de Sitter universe has two ill behaviors. The first one is a closed causal curve. The second one is so called quasi regular singularity, which means that there is no global, consistent extension of spacetime where all curves become complete, nevertheless each curve is locally extensible.

Holographic Complexity for disentangled states

In this paper we consider the maximal volume and the action, which are conjectured to be gravity duals of the complexity, in the black hole geometries with end of the world branes. These geometries are duals of boundary states in CFTs which have small real space entanglement. When we raise the black hole temperature while keeping the cutoff radius, black hole horizons or end of the world branes come in contact with the cutoff surface. In this limit, holographic entanglement entropy reduces to 0. We studied the behavior of the volume and the action. We found that the volume reduces to 0 in this limit. The behavior of the action depends on their regularization. We study the implication of these results to the reference state of the holographic complexity both in the complexity = volume or the complexity = action conjectures.

Charged Entanglement Entropy of Local Operators

In this work we consider the time evolution of charged Renyi entanglement entropies after exciting the vacuum with local fermionic operators. In order to explore the information contained in charged Renyi entropies, we perform computations of their excess due to the operator excitation in 2d CFT, free fermionic field theories in various dimensions as well as holographically. In the analysis we focus on the dependence on the entanglement charge, the chemical potential and the spacetime dimension. We find that excesses of charged (Renyi) entanglement entropy can be interpreted in terms of charged quasiparticles. Moreover, we show that by appropriately tuning the chemical potential charged Renyi entropies can be used to extract entanglement in a certain charge sector of the excited state.

EPR Pairs, Local Projections and Quantum Teleportation in Holography

In this paper we analyze three quantum operations in two dimensional conformal field theories (CFTs): local projection measurements, creations of partial entanglement between two CFTs, and swapping of subsystems between two CFTs. We also give their holographic duals and study time evolutions of entanglement entropy. By combining these operations, we present an analogue of quantum teleportation between two CFTs and give its holographic realization. We introduce a new quantity to probe tripartite entanglement by using local projection measurement.

cMERA as Surface/State Correspondence in AdS/CFT

We present how the surface/state correspondence, conjectured in arXiv:1503.03542, works in the setup of AdS3/CFT2 by generalizing the formulation of cMERA. The boundary states in conformal field theories play a crucial role in our formulation and the bulk diffeomorphism is naturally taken into account. We give an identification of bulk local operators which reproduces correct scalar field solutions on AdS3 and bulk scalar propagators. We also calculate the information metric for a locally excited state and show that it is given by that of 2d hyperbolic manifold, which is argued to describe the time slice of AdS3.

Notes on Entanglement Entropy in String Theory

In this paper, we study the entanglement entropy in string theory in the simplest setup of dividing the nine dimensional space into two halves. This corresponds to the leading quantum correction to the horizon entropy in string theory on the Rindler space. This entropy is also called the conical entropy and includes surface term contributions. We first derive a new simple formula of the conical entropy for any free higher spin fields. Then we apply this formula to computations of conical entropy in open and closed superstring. In our analysis of closed string, we study the twisted conical entropy defined by making use of string theory on Melvin backgrounds. This quantity is easier to calculate owing to the folding trick. Our analysis shows that the entanglement entropy in closed superstring is UV finite owing to the string scale cutoff.

On the definition of entanglement entropy in lattice gauge theories

We focus on the issue of proper definition of entanglement entropy in lattice gauge theories, and examine a naive definition where gauge invariant states are viewed as elements of an extended Hilbert space which contains gauge non-invariant states as well. Working in the extended Hilbert space, we can define entanglement entropy associated with an arbitrary subset of links, not only for abelian but also for non-abelian theories. We then derive the associated replica formula. We also discuss the issue of gauge invariance of the entanglement entropy. In the $Z_N$ gauge theories in arbitrary space dimensions, we show that all the standard properties of the entanglement entropy, e.g. the strong subadditivity, hold in our definition. We study the entanglement entropy for special states, including the topological states for the $Z_N$ gauge theories in arbitrary dimensions. We discuss relations of our definition to other proposals.

Quantum Entanglement of Fermionic Local Operators

In this paper we study the time evolution of (Renyi) entanglement entropies for locally excited states in four dimensional free massless fermionic field theory. Locally excited states are defined by being acted by various local operators on the ground state. Their excesses are defined by subtracting (Renyi) entanglement entropy for the ground state from those for locally excited states. They finally approach some constant if the subsystem is given by half of the total space. They have spin dependence. They can be interpreted in terms of quasi-particles.

Quantum Dimension as Entanglement Entropy in 2D CFTs

We study entanglement entropy of excited states in two dimensional conformal field theories (CFTs). Especially we consider excited states obtained by acting primary operators on a vacuum. We show that under its time evolution, entanglement entropy increases by a finite constant when the causality condition is satisfied. Moreover, in rational CFTs, we prove that this increased amount of (both Renyi and von-Neumann) entanglement entropy always coincides with the log of quantum dimension of the primary operator.

Quantum Entanglement of Local Operators in Conformal Field Theories

We introduce a series of quantities which characterizes a given local operator in conformal field theories from the viewpoint of quantum entanglement. It is defined by the increased amount of (Renyi) entanglement entropy at late time for an excited state defined by acting the local operator on the vacuum. We consider a conformal field theory on an infinite space and take the subsystem in the definition of the entanglement entropy to be its half. We calculate these quantities for a free massless scalar field theory in 2, 4 and 6 dimensions. We find that these results are interpreted in terms of quantum entanglement of finite number states, including EPR states. They agree with a heuristic picture of propagations of entangled particles.

Dynamics of Entanglement Entropy from Einstein Equation

We study the dynamics of entanglement entropy for weakly excited states in conformal field theories by using the AdS/CFT. This is aimed at a first step to find a counterpart of Einstein equation in the CFT language. In particular, we point out that the entanglement entropy satisfies differential equations which directly correspond to the Einstein equation in several setups of AdS/CFT. We also define a quantity called entanglement density in higher dimensional field theories and study its dynamical property for weakly excited states in conformal field theories.

Holographic Local Quenches and Entanglement Density

We propose a free falling particle in an AdS space as a holographic model of local quench. Local quenches are triggered by local excitations in a given quantum system. We calculate the time-evolution of holographic entanglement entropy. We confirm a logarithmic time-evolution, which is known to be typical in two dimensional local quenches. To study the structure of quantum entanglement in general quantum systems, we introduce a new quantity which we call entanglement density and apply this analysis to quantum quenches. We show that this quantity is directly related to the energy density in a small size limit. Moreover, we find a simple relationship between the amount of quantum information possessed by a massive object and its total energy based on the AdS/CFT.
