Broad toplike vector quarks at LHC and HL-LHC

Top like vector quarks arising from underlying strong sectors are expected to have large decay widths pushing them beyond the narrow width approximation. In this paper we consider a broad colored vector quark that strongly couples to an exotic pseudoscalar. We use the full 1PI resummed propagator for the exotic quark to recast the present LHC constraints ruling out masses below $\sim1.2~(1.1)$ TeV for width to mass ratio of $0.1~(0.6)$. We utilize machine learning techniques that are demonstratively more efficient than traditional cut based searches to present the reach of HL-LHC on the parameter space of this broad resonance. We find that at $3~ab^{-1}$ the HL-LHC has a discovery potential up to $1.6$ TeV dominated by the pair production channel. We study the feasibility of using machine learning techniques to analyze the broad resonance peaks expected from these exotic quarks at collider experiments like the LHC.

Constraints on dark matter self-interaction from galactic core size

Self-interaction of particulate dark matter may help thermalising the central region of the galactic halo and driving core formation. The core radius is expectedly sensitive to the self-interaction strength of dark matter (DM). In this paper we study the feasibility of constraining dark matter self-interaction from the distribution of the core radius in isolated haloes. We perform systematic DM only $N$-body simulations of spherically symmetric isolated galactic haloes in the mass range of $10^{10} $-$10^{15}M_{\odot}$, incorporating the impact of isotropic DM self-interaction. Comparing the simulated profiles with the observational data, we provide a conservative upper limit on the self-interaction cross-section, $ σ/m < $ $ 9.8 $ $\ \rm cm^2 /\rm gm $ at $ 95 \% $ confidence level. We report significant dependence of the derived bounds on the galactic density distribution models assumed for the analysis.

Reappraisal of the minimal flavoured $Z^{\prime}$ scenario

Recent results from the intensity frontier indicate the tantalizing possibility of violation in lepton flavour universality. In light of this we revisit the minimal phenomenological $Z'$ model taking in account both vectorial and axial-vectorial flavour violating couplings to the charged leptons. We make a systematic study to identify the minimal framework that can simultaneously explain the recent results on anomalous magnetic moment of muon and electron while remaining in consonance with $R_{K^{(*)}}$, $B^0_s-\bar{B^0_s}$ mixing and angular observables in the $B^+\to K^{+*} μ^+μ^-$ channel reported by the LHCb collaboration. We demonstrate that the neutrino trident data imply a further ${\rm SU(2)}_L$ violation in the leptonic couplings of the exotic $Z'$.

Solar constraints on captured electrophilic dark matter

Dark matter captured by interaction with electrons inside the Sun may annihilate via long-lived mediator to produce observable gamma ray signals. We utilize solar gamma ray flux measurements from the Fermi Large Area Telescope and High Altitude Water Cherenkov observatory to put bounds on the dark matter electron scattering cross-section. We find that our limits are four to six orders of magnitude stronger than the existing limits for dark matter masses ranging between GeV to PeV scale.

Exchange driven freeze out of dark matter

We introduce a novel mechanism where processes that preserve the number density of the dark sector set the relic density of a thermal particulate dark matter. In a relatively degenerate multipartite dark sector if there is a considerable time lapse between the freeze out of various species then a process like exchange between dark sector constituents can play the pivotal role of driving freeze out and setting dark matter relic density. As a proof of principle, we present simple scalar models with viable dark matter in the GeV scale to demonstrate this phenomenon.

Higgs-Gluon Coupling in Warped Extra Dimensional Models with Brane Kinetic Terms

Warped models with the Higgs confined to the weak brane and the gauge and matter fields accessing the $AdS_5$ bulk provide viable setting to address the gauge hierarchy problem. Brane kinetic terms for the bulk fields are known to ease some of the tensions of these models with precision electroweak observables and flavor constraints. We study the loop-driven Higgs coupling to the gluons that are relevant to the Higgs program at LHC, in this scenario. We demonstrate a partial cancellation in the contribution of the fermionic Kaluza-Klein (KK) towers within such framework relatively independent of the 5D parameters. The entire dependence of this coupling on the new physics arises from the mixing between the Standard Model states and the KK excitations. We find that the present precision in measurement of these couplings can lead to a constraint on the KK scale up to 1.2 TeV at $95\%$ confidence level.

Novel Collider and Dark Matter Phenomenology of a Top-philic Z'

We consider extending the Standard Model by including an additional Abelian gauge group broken at low energies under which the right-handed top quark is the only effectively charged Standard Model fermion. The associated gauge boson $(Z')$ is then naturally top-philic and couples only to the rest of the SM particle content at loop-level or via kinetic mixing with the hypercharge gauge boson which is assumed to be small. Working at the effective theory level, we demonstrate that such a minimal extension allows for an improved fitting of the $\sim 2σ$ excess observed in $t\bar{t}h$ searches at the LHC in a region of parameter space that satisfies existing collider constraints. We also present the reach of the LHC at 13 TeV in constraining the relevant region of parameter space. Additionally we show that within the same framework a suitably chosen fermion charged only under the exotic Abelian group can, in the region of parameter space preferred by the $\bar{t}th$ measurements, simultaneously explain the dark matter relic density and the $γ$-ray excess at the galactic center observed by the Fermi-LAT experiment.

Same sign di-lepton candles of the composite gluons

Composite Higgs models, where the Higgs boson is identified with the pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone-Boson (pNGB) of a strong sector, typically have light composite fermions (top partners) to account for a light Higgs. This type of models generically also predicts the existence of heavy vector fields (composite gluons) which appear as an octet of QCD. These composite gluons generically become very broad resonances once phase-space allows them to decay into two composite fermions. This makes their traditional experimental searches, which are designed to look for narrow resonances, quite ineffective. In this paper we, as an alternative, propose to utilize the impact of composite gluons on the production of top partners to constrain their parameter space. We place constraints on the parameters of the composite resonances using the 8 TeV LHC data and also assess the reach of the 14 TeV LHC. We find that the high luminosity LHC will be able to probe composite gluon masses up to $\sim 6$ TeV, even in the broad resonance regime.

The Higgsino-Singlino World at the Large Hadron Collider

We consider light higgsinos and singlinos in the next-to-minimal supersymmetric Standard Model at the Large Hadron Collider. We assume that the singlino is the lightest supersymmetric particle and that the higgsino is the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle with the remaining supersymmetric particles in the multi-TeV range. This scenario, which is motivated by the flavor and CP issues, provides a phenomenologically viable dark matter candidate and improved electroweak fit consistent with the measured Higgs mass. Here, the higgsinos decay into on (off)-shell gauge boson and the singlino. We consider the leptonic decay modes and the resulting signature is three isolated leptons and missing transverse energy which is known as the trilepton signal. We simulate the signal and the Standard Model backgrounds and present the exclusion region in the higgsino-singlino mass plane at the Large Hadron Collider at $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV for an integrated luminosity of 300 fb$^{-1}$.

The Unnatural Composite Higgs

Composite Higgs models can trivially satisfy precision-electroweak and flavour constraints by simply having a large spontaneous symmetry breaking scale, f > 10 TeV. This produces a 'split' spectrum, where the strong sector resonances have masses greater than 10 TeV and are separated from the pseudo Nambu-Goldstone bosons, which remain near the electroweak scale. Even though a tuning of order 10^{-4} is required to obtain the observed Higgs boson mass, the big hierarchy problem remains mostly solved. Intriguingly, models with a fully-composite right-handed top quark also exhibit improved gauge coupling unification. By restricting ourselves to models which preserve these features we find that the symmetry breaking scale cannot be arbitrarily raised, leading to an upper bound f < 100-1000 TeV. This implies that the resonances may be accessible at future colliders, or indirectly via rare-decay experiments. Dark matter is identified with a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson, and we show that the smallest coset space containing a stable, scalar singlet and an unbroken SU(5) symmetry is SU(7) / SU(6) x U(1). The colour-triplet pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson also contained in this coset space is metastable due to a residual symmetry. It can decay via a displaced vertex when produced at colliders, leading to a distinctive signal of unnaturalness.

Minimal supersymmetry confronts $R_b$, $A^b_{FB}$ and $m_h$

We study the impact of the measurements of three sets of observables on the parameter space of the constrained minimal supersymmetric Standard Model (cMSSM), its slightly general variant, the non-universal scalar model (NUSM), and some selected benchmark points of the 19-parameter phenomenological MSSM (pMSSM): ($i$) the direct measurement of the Higgs boson mass $m_h \approx 125$ GeV at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC); ($ii$) $Z$ boson decay width in the $b \bar{b}$ channel normalized to its hadronic width ($R_b$), and the forward-backward asymmetry on the $Z$-peak in the same channel $(A_{\rm FB}^b)$; and ($iii$) several $B$-physics observables, along with $(g-2)$ of muon. In addition, there are constraints from non-observation of superparticles from direct searches at the LHC. In view of the recently re-estimated standard model (SM) value of $R_b$ with improved higher order corrections, the measured value of $R_b$ has a 1.2$σ$ discrepancy with its SM value, while the corresponding discrepancy in $A_{\rm FB}^b$ is 2.5$σ$. MSSM contributions from light superpartners improve the agreement of $R_b$ but worsen that of $A_{\rm FB}^b$. We project this ($R_b$-$A_{\rm FB}^b$) tension {\em vis-à-vis} the constraints arising from other observables in the parameter space of cMSSM and NUSM. We also consider a few well-motivated pMSSM benchmark points and show that pMSSM does not fare any better than the SM.

Radion/Dilaton-Higgs Mixing Phenomenology in Light of the LHC

Motivated by the bulk mixing $ξR_5 H^{\dagger}H$ between a massive radion and a bulk scalar Higgs in warped extra dimensions, we construct an effective four dimensional action that---via the AdS/CFT correspondence---describes the most general mixing between the only light states in the theory, the dilaton and the Higgs. Due to conformal invariance, once the Higgs scalar is localized in the bulk of the extra-dimension the coupling between the dilaton and the Higgs kinetic term vanishes, implying a suppressed coupling between the dilaton and massive gauge bosons. We comment on the implications of the mixing and couplings to Standard Model particles. Identifying the recently discovered 125 GeV resonance with the lightest Higgs-like mixed state $ϕ_{-}$, we study the phenomenology and constraints for the heaviest radion-like state $ϕ_{+}$. In particular we find that in the small mixing scenario with a radion-like state $ϕ_{+}$ in the mass range [150,250] GeV, the diphoton channel can provide the best chance of discovery at the LHC if the collaborations extend their searches into this energy range.

UV descriptions of composite Higgs models without elementary scalars

We consider four-dimensional UV descriptions of composite Higgs models without elementary scalars, in which four-fermion interactions are introduced to an underlying gauge theory like in the gauged NJL model. When the anomalous dimension of the fermion bilinear is large, these interactions drive the spontaneous global symmetry breaking in the model, with the Higgs identified as a Nambu-Goldstone boson. The UV descriptions support composite top partner operators, also with large anomalous dimensions, thereby providing an explicit realisation of the idea of partial compositeness. In particular, the composite SO(6)/SO(5) model can be described by an Sp gauge theory with four flavours of fermion, together with a vector-like pair of fermions transforming in the antisymmetric representation and charged under SU(3) colour. These fermions confine to produce both the Higgs and top partner bound states. Our methods can also be applied to different coset groups, suggesting that four-fermion operators can describe the underlying UV dynamics of other composite Higgs models.

Burgeoning the Higgs mass to 125 GeV through messenger-matter interactions in GMSB models

A 125 GeV Higgs renders the simpler GMSB models unnatural, essentially pushing the soft spectrum beyond the LHC reach. A direct coupling of the matter and messenger fields, that facilitates an enhanced mixing in the squark sector, is a way to ameliorate this deficiency. We construct all possible messenger-matter interaction terms considering the messenger multiplets in 1, 5 and 10 dimensional representations of the SU(5). A Froggatt-Nielsen like flavor framework connected with the origin of fermion mass hierarchy is utilized to control the interaction terms and suppress FCNC. We perform a detailed comparative study of the efficiency of such interaction terms to boost the Higgs mass keeping the soft spectrum light. We identify the more promising models and comment on their status in present and future collider studies.

Constraining minimal and non-minimal UED models with Higgs couplings

Early indications from the LHC for the observed scalar boson imply properties close to the Standard Model Higgs, putting considerable constraints on TeV scale new physics scenarios. In this letter we consider flat extra dimensional scenarios with the fifth spatial dimension compactified on an S^1/Z_2 orbifold. We find in the minimal model the experimentally preferred effective Higgs couplings to gluon and photon at 95% confidence level disfavor the New Physics scale below 1.3 TeV. We demonstrate that a generalization of these models to include brane localized kinetic terms can relieve the tension to accommodate scales as low as 0.4 TeV.

On Composite Two Higgs Doublet Models

We investigate composite two Higgs doublet models realized as pseudo Goldstone modes, generated through the spontaneous breaking of a global symmetry due to strong dynamic at the TeV scale. A detailed comparative survey of two possible symmetry breaking patterns, SU(5) -> SU(4) x U(1) and SU(5) x SU(4), is made. We point out choices for the Standard Model fermion representations that can alleviate some phenomenological constraints, with emphasis towards a simultaneous solution of anomalous Zb\bar{b} coupling and Higgs mediated Flavor Changing Neutral Currents. We also write down the kinetic lagrangian for several models leading to Two Higgs Doublets and identify the anomalous contributions to the T parameter. Moreover, we describe a model based on the breaking $SO(9)/SO(8)$ in which there is no tree-level breaking of custodial symmetry, discussing also the possible embeddings for the fermion fields.

Pushing the SUSY Higgs mass towards 125 GeV with a color adjoint

We show that inclusion of a TeV scale chiral superfield transforming in the adjoint representation of the color SU(3) to the MSSM particle content modifies the renormalization group running of some parameters in such a way that a 125 GeV mass of the light Higgs boson is accommodated more comfortably than in cMSSM / mSUGRA. Put differently, the introduction of a color adjoint TeV scale superfield helps resurrecting lighter choices for the stop and gluino which are otherwise disfavored in cMSSM / mSUGRA.

Radiative corrections to the composite Higgs mass from a gluon partner

In composite Higgs models light fermionic top partners often play an important role in obtaining a 126 GeV Higgs mass. The presence of these top partners implies that coloured vector mesons, or massive gluon partners, most likely exist. Since the coupling between the top partners and gluon partners can be large there are then sizeable two-loop contributions to the composite Higgs mass. We compute the radiative correction to the Higgs mass from a gluon partner in the minimal composite Higgs model and show that the Higgs mass is in fact reduced. This allows the top partner masses to be increased, easing the tension between having a light composite Higgs and heavy top partners.

Gluino, wino and Higgsino-like particles without supersymmetry

Metastable charged particles produced at the LHC can decay in the quiescent period between beam crossing in the detector leading to spectacular signals. In this paper we consider augmenting the Standard Model with gluino, Higgsino and wino-like particles without invoking supersymmetry. Proton stability is ensured by imposing a discrete $Z_6$ parity that fixes their possible interaction and makes them metastable in a large portion of the parameter space. We investigate the possibility of employing these fields to improve gauge coupling unification, explain dark matter, generate neutrino mass and cancel flavor anomalies. We find that the masses of these fields, controlled by the flavor anomaly relations, make them visible at the LHC.

Naturally split supersymmetry

Nonobservation of superparticles till date, new Higgs mass limits from the CMS and ATLAS experiments, WMAP constraints on relic density, various other low energy data, and the naturalness consideration, all considered simultaneously imply a paradigm shift of supersymmetric model building. In this paper we perform, for the first time, a detailed numerical study of brane-world induced supersymmetry breaking for both minimal and next-to-minimal scenarios. We observe that a naturally hierarchical spectrum emerges through an interplay of bulk, brane-localized and quasi-localized fields, which can gain more relevance in the subsequent phases of the LHC run.

Beyond The Standard Model: Some Aspects of Supersymmetry and Extra Dimension

In this thesis we have explored some of the phenomenological aspects of warped/flat extra dimensional theories and their interface with supersymmetry. We study the numerical impact of compactified warped extra dimension on the processes gg -> h and h -> γγ, which are of paramount importance in the context of Higgs search at the LHC. We compute radiative correction to the lightest neutral Higgs mass induced by the Kaluza-Klein (KK) towers of fermions and sfermions in a supersymmetric warped extra dimension model. Next we make a more formal renormalization group study of a supersymmetric model embedded in a flat 5d scenario, with the inverse radius of compactification of the fifth dimension at the TeV scale. We show that radiative electroweak symmetry breaking can be achieved in this scenario. We construct for the first time, the 5d versions of the often displayed 4d m_0-M_{1/2} plots.

On the possibility of generating leading order gaugino masses in direct gauge mediation scenario

Generating gaugino masses at the leading order has typically been difficult in direct/semi-direct gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking models. The Komargodski-Shih theorem has established that local stability of the supersymmetry breaking vacuum implies a vanishing leading order gaugino mass in generic renormalizable O'Raifeartaigh models. We relax the condition of renormalizability and investigate the possibility to evade the KS no-go theorem using higher dimensional operators in the Kahler potential and the superpotential. We demonstrate that higher dimensional terms which are polynomial in superfields are not adequate to evade the KS theorem. We narrow down on the possible class of non-polynomial corrections that can induce unsuppressed gaugino mass in a global supersymmetry breaking vacuum. We find that these models are tantalizingly close to the theories obtained from strongly coupled supersymmetry breaking schemes.

A phenomenological study of 5d supersymmetry

Supersymmetry and extra dimension need not be mutually exclusive options of physics for the TeV scale and beyond. In this paper, we envisage a phenomenological scenario by embedding the 4d constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model in a flat 5d $S_1 /Z_2$ orbifold, with the inverse radius of compactification at the TeV scale. The gauge, Higgs and the third generation matter multiplets are placed in the bulk. From a 4d perspective, the bulk has N=2 supersymmetry which entails a special non-renormalization theorem giving rise to a significant numerical impact on the renormalization group running of various parameters. The brane supersymmetry corresponds to N=1 which we assume to be broken in an unspecified but phenomenologically acceptable way. Given this set-up, we study how the gauge and Yukawa couplings and the N=1 brane supersymmetry breaking soft masses run through the energy scale exciting the Kaluza-Klein states at regular interval. We present our results by showing the allowed/disallowed zone in the plane of the common scalar mass ($m_0$) and common gaugino mass ($M_{1/2}$). Our plots are the first 5d versions of the often displayed 4d $m_0$--$M_{1/2}$ plots, and we provide reasons behind the differences between the 4d and 5d plots.

Probing warped extra dimension via gg -> h and h -> gamma gamma at LHC

The processes gg -> h and h -> gamma gamma are of paramount importance in the context of Higgs search at the LHC. These processes are loop driven and hence could be sensitive to the presence of any new colored fermion states having a large coupling with the Higgs. Such a scenario arises in a warped extra dimensional theory, where the Higgs is confined to the TeV brane and the hierarchy of fermion masses is addressed by localizing them at different positions in the bulk. We show that the Yukawa coupling of the Higgs with the fermion Kaluza-Klein (KK) states can be order one irrespective of their zero mode masses. We observe that the gg -> h and h -> gamma gamma rates are substantially altered if the KK states lie within the reach of LHC. We provide both intuitive and numerical comparison between the RS and UED scenarios as regards their quantitative impact in such processes.
