SO(10) unification with horizontal symmetry

We extend the nonsupersymmetric SO(10) grand unification theories by adding a horizontal symmetry, which connects the three generations of fermions. Without committing to any specific symmetry group, we investigate the 1-loop renormalization group evolutions of the gauge couplings with one and two intermediate breaking scales. We find that depending on the SO(10) breaking chains, gauge coupling unification is compatible with only a handful of choices of representations of the Higgs bosons under the horizontal symmetry.

A Detailed Analysis of Flavour-changing Decays of Top Quarks as a Probe of New Physics at the LHC

If the LHC should fail to observe direct signals for new physics, it may become necessary to look for new physics effects in rare events such as flavour-changing decays of the top quark, which, in the Standard Model, are predicted to be too small to be observed. We set up the theoretical framework in which experimentally accessible results can be expected in models of new physics, and go on to discuss two models of supersymmetry -- one with conserved $R$-parity, and one without $R$-parity -- to illustrate how the flavour-changing signals are predicted in these models. In the latter case, there is a distinct possibility of detecting the rare decay $t \to c + Z^0$ at the LHC. We also present a detailed set of very general formulae which can be used to make similar calculations in diverse models of new physics.

Focus Point Gauge Mediation with Incomplete Adjoint Messengers and Gauge Coupling Unification

As the mass limits on supersymmetric particles are gradually pushed to higher values due to their continuing non-observation at the CERN LHC, looking for focus point regions in the supersymmetric parameter space, which shows considerably reduced fine-tuning, is increasingly more important than ever. We explore this in the context of gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking with messengers transforming in the adjoint representation of the gauge group, namely, octet of color SU(3) and triplet of weak SU(2). A distinctive feature of this scenario is that the focus point is achieved by fixing a single combination of parameters in the messenger sector, which is invariant under the renormalization group evolution. Because of this invariance, the focus point behavior is well under control once the relevant parameters are fixed by a more fundamental theory. The observed Higgs boson mass is explained with a relatively mild fine-tuning $Δ=$ 60-150. Interestingly, even in the presence of incomplete messenger multiplets of the SU(5) GUT group, the gauge couplings still unify perfectly, but at a scale which is one or two orders of magnitude above the conventional GUT scale. Because of this larger unification scale, the colored Higgs multiplets become too heavy to trigger proton decay at a rate larger than the experimentally allowed limit.

Scalar sector of Two-Higgs-Doublet models: A mini-review

A vast literature on the theory and phenomenology of Two-Higgs-Doublet models (2HDM) exists since long. However, the present situation demands a revisit of some 2HDM properties. Now that a 125 GeV scalar resonance has been discovered at the LHC, with its couplings to other particles showing increasing affinity to the Standard Model Higgs-like behavior, the 2HDM parameter space is more squeezed than ever. We briefly review the different parametrizations of the 2HDM potential and discuss the constraints on the parameter space arising from the unitarity and stability of the potential together with constraints from the oblique electroweak $T$-parameter. We also differentiate the consequences of imposing a global continuous U(1) symmetry on the potential from a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry.

Feasibility of light scalars in a class of two-Higgs-doublet models and their decay signatures

We demonstrate that light charged and extra neutral scalars in the (100-200) GeV mass range pass the potentially dangerous flavor constraints in a particular class of two-Higgs-doublet model which has appropriately suppressed flavor-changing neutral currents at tree level. We study their decay branching ratios into various fermionic final states and comment on the possibility of their detection in the collider experiments. We also remark on how their trademark decay signatures can be used to discriminate them from the light nonstandard scalars predicted in other two-Higgs-doublet models.

Minimal supersymmetry confronts $R_b$, $A^b_{FB}$ and $m_h$

We study the impact of the measurements of three sets of observables on the parameter space of the constrained minimal supersymmetric Standard Model (cMSSM), its slightly general variant, the non-universal scalar model (NUSM), and some selected benchmark points of the 19-parameter phenomenological MSSM (pMSSM): ($i$) the direct measurement of the Higgs boson mass $m_h \approx 125$ GeV at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC); ($ii$) $Z$ boson decay width in the $b \bar{b}$ channel normalized to its hadronic width ($R_b$), and the forward-backward asymmetry on the $Z$-peak in the same channel $(A_{\rm FB}^b)$; and ($iii$) several $B$-physics observables, along with $(g-2)$ of muon. In addition, there are constraints from non-observation of superparticles from direct searches at the LHC. In view of the recently re-estimated standard model (SM) value of $R_b$ with improved higher order corrections, the measured value of $R_b$ has a 1.2$σ$ discrepancy with its SM value, while the corresponding discrepancy in $A_{\rm FB}^b$ is 2.5$σ$. MSSM contributions from light superpartners improve the agreement of $R_b$ but worsen that of $A_{\rm FB}^b$. We project this ($R_b$-$A_{\rm FB}^b$) tension {\em vis-à-vis} the constraints arising from other observables in the parameter space of cMSSM and NUSM. We also consider a few well-motivated pMSSM benchmark points and show that pMSSM does not fare any better than the SM.

Nondecoupling of charged scalars in Higgs decay to two photons and symmetries of the scalar potential

A large class of two- and three-Higgs-doublet models with discrete symmetries has been employed in the literature to address various aspects of flavor physics. We analyse how the precision measurement of the Higgs to diphoton signal strength would severely constrain these scenarios due to the nondecoupling behavior of the charged scalars, to the extent that the number of additional scalar doublets can be constrained no matter how heavy the nonstandard scalars are. We demonstrate that if the scalar potential is endowed with appropriate global continuous symmetries together with soft breaking parameters, decoupling can be achieved thanks to the unitarity constraints on the mass-square differences of the heavy scalars.

A natural scenario for heavy colored and light uncolored superpartners

Influenced by the current trend of experimental data, especially from the LHC, we construct a supersymmetric scenario where a natural dynamics makes the squarks and gluino super-heavy (order 10 TeV) while keeping the sleptons and the weak gauginos light (100-500 GeV). The dynamics relies on the interfusion of two underlying ideas: ($i$) gauge mediation of supersymmetry breaking with two messenger multiplets, one transforming as a triplet of weak SU(2) and the other as an octet of color SU(3); ($ii$) perturbative gauge coupling unification at the string scale even with these incomplete SU(5) multiplets. Interestingly, the relative magnitude of the triplet and octet messenger scales that ensures gauge unification at the two-loop level also helps to naturally keep the uncolored superpartners light while making the colored ones heavy.

A practical GMSB model for explaining the muon (g-2) with gauge coupling unification

We present a gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking model having weak SU(2) triplet, color SU(3) octet and SU(5) 5-plet messengers, that can simultaneously explain the muon $(g-2)$ data within 1$σ$ and the observed Higgs boson mass of 125 GeV. Gauge coupling unification is nontrivially maintained. Most of the parameter space satisfying both is accessible to the 14 TeV LHC. The lighter of the two staus weighs around (100-200) GeV, which can be a potential target of the ILC.

Pushing the SUSY Higgs mass towards 125 GeV with a color adjoint

We show that inclusion of a TeV scale chiral superfield transforming in the adjoint representation of the color SU(3) to the MSSM particle content modifies the renormalization group running of some parameters in such a way that a 125 GeV mass of the light Higgs boson is accommodated more comfortably than in cMSSM / mSUGRA. Put differently, the introduction of a color adjoint TeV scale superfield helps resurrecting lighter choices for the stop and gluino which are otherwise disfavored in cMSSM / mSUGRA.

Scalar sector properties of two-Higgs-doublet models with a global U(1) symmetry

We analyze the scalar sector properties of a general class of two-Higgs-doublet models which has a global U(1) symmetry in the quartic terms. We find constraints on the parameters of the potential from the considerations of unitarity of scattering amplitudes, the global stability of the potential and the $ρ$-parameter. We concentrate on the spectrum of the non-standard scalar masses in the decoupling limit which is preferred by the Higgs data at the LHC. We exhibit charged-Higgs induced contributions to the diphoton decay width of the 125\,GeV Higgs boson and its correlation with the corresponding $Zγ$ width.

Electroweak Symmetry Breaking Beyond the Standard Model

In this talk, I shall address two key issues related to electroweak symmetry breaking. First, how fine-tuned different models are that trigger this phenomenon? Second, even if a light Higgs boson exists, does it have to be necessarily elementary? After a brief introduction, I shall first review the fine-tuning aspects of the MSSM, NMSSM, generalized NMSSM and GMSB scenarios. I shall then compare and contrast the little Higgs, composite Higgs and the Higgsless models. Finally, I shall summarize by giving a broad overview on where we stand at the end of 2011.

Naturally split supersymmetry

Nonobservation of superparticles till date, new Higgs mass limits from the CMS and ATLAS experiments, WMAP constraints on relic density, various other low energy data, and the naturalness consideration, all considered simultaneously imply a paradigm shift of supersymmetric model building. In this paper we perform, for the first time, a detailed numerical study of brane-world induced supersymmetry breaking for both minimal and next-to-minimal scenarios. We observe that a naturally hierarchical spectrum emerges through an interplay of bulk, brane-localized and quasi-localized fields, which can gain more relevance in the subsequent phases of the LHC run.

Novel signatures of the Higgs sector from S3 flavor symmetry

In an earlier work we analyzed the CP-even scalar sector of an S3 flavor model, where we identified some novel decay signatures of an exotic scalar. In this work we extend our analysis by including the complete set of scalars/pseudoscalars, revisiting the potential minimization conditions in a more general setup, setting the spectrum in conformity with the current LHC limits on the scalar mass, and identifying yet another spectacularly novel decay channel which might be revealed from an intense study of rare top decays at the LHC into modes containing multileptons of different flavors.

The main goals of the first "Workshop on FLAvor SYmmetries and consequences in accelerators and cosmology" (FLASY) was to summarize the theoretical status of flavor symmetries, bringing together young researchers in the field to stimulate discussions and new collaborations, with the aim of investigating possible new physics scenarios to be tested at the LHC, as well as in future neutrino, cosmology experiments and dark matter searches.

A possible connection between neutrino mass generation and the lightness of a NMSSM pseudoscalar

One of the interesting properties of the NMSSM is that it can accommodate a light pseudoscalar of order 10 GeV. However, such scenarios are challenged by several experimental constraints, especially those related to the fermionic decays of the pseudoscalar. In this Letter, we extend the NMSSM field content by two gauge singlets, with lepton numbers +1 and -1. This serves the twin purpose of generating neutrino masses via the inverse see-saw mechanism and keeping the option of a very light pseudoscalar experimentally viable by opening dominant invisible decay channels of the pseudoscalar which help it evade the existing bounds.

Can Flavor Physics Hint at Distinctive Signals for R-parity Violation at the LHC?

Observation of some low-energy processes in the flavor physics regime may require the existence of supersymmetry with two relatively large R-parity-violating couplings of the LQD-type, together with reasonably light superparticles. At the LHC, such interactions would be expected to give rise to clear signals with convenient leptonic triggers, including some multileptons of the same sign. We undertake a detailed investigation of these signals taking care to correlate with low-energy requirements and taking proper account of the Standard Model backgrounds as well as the R-parity-conserving sector of the supersymmetric model. We find clear indications that R-parity violation as envisaged in this scenario can be detected at the LHC - even, perhaps, in the early runs.

Exotic Higgs boson decay modes as a harbinger of $S_3$ flavor symmetry

Discrete symmetries employed to explain flavor mixing and mass hierarchies can be associated with an enlarged scalar sector which might lead to exotic Higgs decay modes. In this paper, we explore such a possibility in a scenario with $S_3$ flavor symmetry which requires three scalar SU(2) doublets. The spectrum is fixed by minimizing the scalar potential, and we observe that the symmetry of the model leads to tantalizing Higgs decay modes potentially observable at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC).

R-Parity violating flavor symmetries, recent neutrino data and absolute neutrino mass scale

We study the role of a very general type of flavor symmetry in controlling the strength of R-parity violation in supersymmetric models. We assume that only leptons are charged under a global symmetry whose breaking induces lepton number (and, hence, R-parity) violation. The charge assignments of leptons under this symmetry are such that the total number of independent lepton number violating couplings is reduced from 39 to 6. The most severe constraints on these flavor-correlated couplings arise from neutrino masses and mixing as well as from the non-observation of K_L -> eμ. We find that such a scenario predicts an almost vanishing smallest neutrino mass eigenvalue, allowing the upcoming generation of neutrinoless double beta decay experiments to shed light on the hierarchy.

A Pedagogical Review of Electroweak Symmetry Breaking Scenarios

We review different avenues of electroweak symmetry breaking explored over the years. This constitutes a timely exercise as the world's largest and the highest energy particle accelerator, namely, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN near Geneva, has started running whose primary mission is to find the Higgs or some phenomena that mimic the effects of the Higgs, i.e. to unravel the mysteries of electroweak phase transition. In the beginning, we discuss the Standard Model Higgs mechanism. After that we review the Higgs sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. Then we take up three relatively recent ideas: Little Higgs, Gauge-Higgs Unification, and Higgsless scenarios. For the latter three cases, we first present the basic ideas and restrict our illustration to some instructive toy models to provide an intuitive feel of the underlying dynamics, and then discuss, for each of the three cases, how more realistic scenarios are constructed and how to decipher their experimental signatures. Wherever possible, we provide enough pedagogical details, which the beginners might find useful.

A phenomenological study of 5d supersymmetry

Supersymmetry and extra dimension need not be mutually exclusive options of physics for the TeV scale and beyond. In this paper, we envisage a phenomenological scenario by embedding the 4d constrained minimal supersymmetric standard model in a flat 5d $S_1 /Z_2$ orbifold, with the inverse radius of compactification at the TeV scale. The gauge, Higgs and the third generation matter multiplets are placed in the bulk. From a 4d perspective, the bulk has N=2 supersymmetry which entails a special non-renormalization theorem giving rise to a significant numerical impact on the renormalization group running of various parameters. The brane supersymmetry corresponds to N=1 which we assume to be broken in an unspecified but phenomenologically acceptable way. Given this set-up, we study how the gauge and Yukawa couplings and the N=1 brane supersymmetry breaking soft masses run through the energy scale exciting the Kaluza-Klein states at regular interval. We present our results by showing the allowed/disallowed zone in the plane of the common scalar mass ($m_0$) and common gaugino mass ($M_{1/2}$). Our plots are the first 5d versions of the often displayed 4d $m_0$--$M_{1/2}$ plots, and we provide reasons behind the differences between the 4d and 5d plots.

A reappraisal of spontaneous R-parity violation

In this short reappraisal of spontaneous lepton number violation in a supersymmetric scenario implemented through singlet sneutrino vacuum expectation value (VEV), we contribute with two new things in the context where the lepton number symmetry is global: (i) provide explicit expressions of $R$-parity violating couplings in terms of the neutrino Yukawa couplings and the singlet sneutrino VEV, and (ii) estimate the limit on this VEV using the current knowledge of the light neutrino mass and the astrophysical constraint on the Majoron-electron coupling. Besides, we put updated constraints on the VEV and Yukawa coupling of the singlet superfield when lepton number is gauged.

Correlated enhancements in $D_s \to \ellν$, $(g-2)$ of muon, and lepton flavor violating $τ$ decays with two R-parity violating couplings

With just two R-parity violating couplings, $λ'_{223}$ and $λ'_{323}$, we correlate several channels, namely, $D_s \to \ell ν$ ($\ell = μ, τ$), $(g-2)_μ$, and some lepton flavor violating $τ$ decays. For $λ'_{223} = λ'_{323} \sim 0.3$ and for a common superpartner mass of 300 GeV, which explain the recently observed excesses in the above $D_s$ decay channels, we predict the following R-parity violating contributions: ${\rm Br} (τ\to μγ) \sim 4.5 \cdot 10^{-8}$, ${\rm Br} (τ\to μμμ) \sim 1.2 \cdot 10^{-8}$, ${\rm Br} (τ\to μη/η') \sim 4 \cdot 10^{-10}$, and $(g_μ-2)/2 \sim 4 \cdot 10^{-11}$. We exhibit our results through observable versus observable correlation plots.

Exploring the Universal Extra Dimension at the LHC

Besides supersymmetry, the other prime candidate of physics beyond the standard model (SM), crying out for verification at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), is extra-dimension. To hunt for effects of Kaluza-Klein (KK) excitations of known fermions and bosons is very much in the agenda of the LHC. These KK states arise when the SM particles penetrate in the extra space-like dimension(s). In this paper, we consider a 5d scenario, called `Universal Extra Dimension', where the extra space coordinate, compactified on an orbifold $S^1/Z_2$, is accessed by {\em all} the particles. The KK number ($n$) is conserved at all tree level vertices. This entails the production of KK states in pairs and renders the lightest KK particle stable, which leaves the detector carrying away missing energy. The splitting between different KK flavors is controlled by the zero mode masses and the bulk- and brane-induced one-loop radiative corrections. We concentrate on the production of an $n=1$ KK electroweak gauge boson in association with an $n=1$ KK quark. This leads to a signal consisting of {\em only one} jet, one or more leptons and missing $p_T$. For definiteness we usually choose the inverse radius of compactification to be $R^{-1} = 500$ GeV, which sets the scale of the lowest lying KK states. We show on a case-by-case basis (depending on the number of leptons in the final state) that with 10 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$ integrated luminosity at the LHC with $\sqrt{s}$ = 14 TeV this signal can be detected over the SM background by imposing appropriate kinematic cuts. We record some of the expectations for a possible intermediate LHC run at $\sqrt{s}$ = 10 TeV and also exhibit the integrated luminosity required to obtain a 5$σ$ signal as a function of $R^{-1}$.

Probing warped extra dimension via gg -> h and h -> gamma gamma at LHC

The processes gg -> h and h -> gamma gamma are of paramount importance in the context of Higgs search at the LHC. These processes are loop driven and hence could be sensitive to the presence of any new colored fermion states having a large coupling with the Higgs. Such a scenario arises in a warped extra dimensional theory, where the Higgs is confined to the TeV brane and the hierarchy of fermion masses is addressed by localizing them at different positions in the bulk. We show that the Yukawa coupling of the Higgs with the fermion Kaluza-Klein (KK) states can be order one irrespective of their zero mode masses. We observe that the gg -> h and h -> gamma gamma rates are substantially altered if the KK states lie within the reach of LHC. We provide both intuitive and numerical comparison between the RS and UED scenarios as regards their quantitative impact in such processes.

A new mechanism of neutrino mass generation in the NMSSM with broken lepton number

In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with bilinear R-parity violation, only one neutrino eigenstate acquires a mass at tree level, consequently experimental data on neutrinos cannot be accommodated at tree level. We show that in the Next-to-Minimal extension, where a gauge singlet superfield is added to primarily address the so-called $μ$-problem, it is possible to generate two massive neutrino states at tree level. Hence, the global three-flavour neutrino data can be reproduced at tree level, without appealing to loop dynamics which is vulnerable to model-dependent uncertainties. We give analytical expressions for the neutrino mass eigenvalues and present examples of realistic parameter choices.

Neutrinos in the simplest little Higgs scenario and TeV leptogenesis

The little Higgs scenario may provide an interesting framework to accommodate TeV scale leptogenesis because a TeV Majorana mass of the right-handed neutrino that we employ for the latter may find a natural place near the ultraviolet cutoff of the former. In this work we study how a light neutrino spectrum, generated radiatively, and TeV scale leptogenesis can be embedded in the simplest little Higgs framework. Alternatively, we highlight how the neutrino Yukawa textures of the latter are constrained.

Power law scaling in Universal Extra Dimension scenarios

We study the power law running of gauge, Yukawa and quartic scalar couplings in the universal extra dimension scenario where the extra dimension is accessed by all the standard model fields. After compactifying on an $S_1 /Z_2$ orbifold, we compute one-loop contributions of the relevant Kaluza-Klein (KK) towers to the above couplings up to a cutoff scale $Λ$. Beyond the scale of inverse radius, once the KK states are excited, these couplings exhibit power law dependence on $Λ$. As a result of faster running, the gauge couplings tend to unify at a relatively low scale, and we choose our cutoff also around that scale. For example, for a radius $R \sim 1 TeV^{-1}$, the cutoff is around 30 TeV. We then examine the consequences of power law running on the triviality and vacuum stability bounds on the Higgs mass. We also comment that the supersymmetric extension of the scenario requires $R^{-1}$ to be larger than $\sim 10^{10}$ GeV in order that the gauge couplings remain perturbative up to the scale where they tend to unify.

Radiative neutrino decay and CP-violation in R-parity violating supersymmetry

We calculate the radiative decay amplitude for Majorana neutrinos in trilinear R-parity violating supersymmetric framework. Our results make no assumption regarding the masses and mixings of fermions and sfermions. The results obtained are exemplary for generic models with loop-generated neutrino masses. Comparison of this amplitude with the neutrino mass matrix shows that the two provide independent probes of CP-violating phases.

Probing Universal Extra Dimension at the International Linear Collider

In the context of an universal extra-dimensional scenario, we consider production of the first Kaluza-Klein electron positron pair in an $e^+e^-$ collider as a case-study for the future International Linear Collider. The Kaluza-Klein electron decays into a nearly degenerate Kaluza-Klein photon and a standard electron, the former carrying away missing energy. The Kaluza-Klein electron and photon states are heavy with their masses around the inverse radius of compactification, and their splitting is controlled by radiative corrections originating from bulk and brane-localised interactions. We look for the signal event $e^+e^- +$ large missing energy for $\sqrt s = 1$ TeV and observe that with a few hundred fb$^{-1}$ luminosity the signal will be readily detectable over the standard model background. We comment on how this signal may be distinguished from similar events from other new physics.

A comparison of ultraviolet sensitivities in universal, nonuniversal, and split extra dimensional models

We discuss the origin of ultraviolet sensitivity in extra dimensional theories, and compare and contrast the cutoff dependences in universal, nonuniversal and split five dimensional models. While the gauge bosons and scalars are in the five dimensional bulk in all scenarios, the locations of the fermions are different in different cases. In the universal model all fermions can travel in the bulk, in the nonuniversal case they are all confined at the brane, while in the split scenario some are in the bulk and some are in the brane. A possible cure from such divergences is also discussed.

Searching for signals of minimal length in extra dimensional models using dilepton production at hadron colliders

Theories of quantum gravity suggest the existence of a minimal length scale. It is interesting to speculate what the consequences of the existence of such a length scale would be for models of large extra dimensions, in particular, the ADD model. When ADD model is conflated with the minimal length scale scenario, processes involving virtual exhange of gravitons cease to be ulraviolent divergent. We study the production of dileptons at hadron colliders as an example of a process mediated by virtual gravitons. We find that the bounds we derive on the effective string scale are significantly different (in fact, less stringent) from those derived in the conventional ADD model, both at the upgraded Tevatron and the Large Hadron Collider.

Ultraviolet sensitivity of rare decays in nonuniversal extra dimensional models

We consider a nonuniversal five dimensional model in which fermions are localised on a four dimensional brane, while gauge bosons and a scalar doublet can travel in the bulk. As a result of KK number non-conservation at the brane-bulk intersection, the ultraviolet divergence does not cancel out in some physical observables. For example, the $B_d \to l^+l^-$ decay amplitude is linearly divergent, while $B$--$\bar{B}$ mixing amplitude is log divergent. We attempt to identify the exact source of this nonrenormalizability. We compare and contrast our results with those obtained in the universal five dimensional model where all particles travel in the extra dimension.

Can R-parity violation lower $\sin 2β$?

Recent time-dependent CP asymmetry measurements in the $B_d \to J/ψK_S$ channel by the BaBar and Belle Collaborations yield somewhat lower values of $\sin 2β$ compared to the one obtained from the standard model fit. If the inconsistency between these numbers persists with more statistics, this will signal new physics contaminating the $B_d \to J/ψK_S$ channel, thus disturbing the extraction of $β$. We show that the R-parity-violating interactions in supersymmetric theories can provide extra new phases which play a role in significantly reducing the above CP asymmetry, thus explaining why BaBar and Belle report lower values of $\sin 2β$. The same couplings also affect the $B_d \to ϕK_S$ decay rate and asymmetry, explain the $B \to η' K$ anomaly, and predict nonzero CP asymmetry in dominant $B_s$ decays. The scenario will be tested in the ongoing and upcoming B factories.

R-parity-violating trilinear couplings and recent neutrino data

The nontrivial structure of the neutrino mass matrix, suggested by the recent Super-Kamiokande results and data from other neutrino experiments, can be reproduced in R-parity-violating supersymmetric theories. This requires sets of products of R-parity-violating trilinear couplings to take appropriately chosen values. It is shown that the existing constraints on these couplings are satisfied by these choices.

$R_b$ -- $R_c$ Crisis and New Physics

The experimental values of $R_b$ and $R_c$ are the only data which do not seem to agree with Standard Model predictions. Although it is still premature to draw any definite conclusions, it is timely to look for new physics which could explain the excess in $R_b$ and deficit in $R_c$. We investigate this problem in a simple extension of the Standard Model, where a charge $+2/3$ isosinglet quark is added to the standard spectrum. Upon the further introduction of an extra scalar doublet, one finds a solution with interesting consequences.

New LEP constraints on some supersymmetric Yukawa interactions that violate R-parity

We consider one-loop corrections to partial widths of the $Z$ induced by supersymmetric Yukawa interactions that violate $R$-parity. The precise experimental values of the leptonic $Z$ partial widths bound these Yukawa couplings, with the most interesting constraints being those on couplings involving the $τ$, since previous constraints on them were very mild.

Searching $R$-parity-violating supersymmetry in semileptonic $B$-decays

If $R$-parity is broken and the photino, although unstable, does not decay within the detector, then in new semileptonic $B$-decay modes a light ($\sim$ 2--3 GeV) photino can be produced carrying missing energy. However, the photino, being massive, arranges a different kinematical configuration for the visible decay products as compared to a standard semileptonic event where the neutrino carries the missing energy. We study the above kinematic distributions in an attempt to explore the above scenario.

$Z^0$--${Z^0}^\prime$ and ordinary-exotic fermion mixings revisited using some special observables

We investigate the mixing of an extra ${Z^0}^\prime$ with the standard $Z^0$ and mixings of exotic fermions with their standard counterparts through some precisely measured electroweak observables. These observables are geared to search for physics beyond the Standard Model. We observe that although most of such mixings are severely constrained by the recent LEP data, some of the mixing angles could still be rather large, awaiting future tests.
