An Analysis of Uplink Success Probability in Multi-Cell Lora Networks Under Different Channel Models

The development of the low power wide area network (LPWAN) for the internet of things (IoTs) is expected to grow widely, allowing remote monitoring of smart devices from a distance of up to several kilometers. This paper studies the performance and success probability of multi-cell LoRa networks. Using tools of stochastic geometry, the paper analyzes the important metric namely success probability in both Rayleigh and Rician channel models. The obtained analysis helps investigate and evaluate other quality criteria in the multi-cell LoRa network such as throughput, SNR and SIR requirements. Moreover, we provide numerical simulation results to corroborate the theoretical analysis and to verify how our analysis can characterize the given reliability target.

Deep Learning-Aided 5G Channel Estimation

Deep learning has demonstrated the important roles in improving the system performance and reducing computational complexity for $5$G-and-beyond networks. In this paper, we propose a new channel estimation method with the assistance of deep learning in order to support the least squares estimation, which is a low-cost method but having relatively high channel estimation errors. This goal is achieved by utilizing a MIMO (multiple-input multiple-output) system with a multi-path channel profile used for simulations in the 5G networks under the severity of Doppler effects. Numerical results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed deep learning-assisted channel estimation method over the other channel estimation methods in previous works in terms of mean square errors.

Impact of Inter-Channel Interference on Shallow Underwater Acoustic OFDM Systems

This paper investigates the impacts of Inter-Channel Interference (ICI) effects on a shallow underwater acoustic (UWA) orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) communication system. Considering both the turbulence of the water surface and the roughness of the bottom, a stochastic geometry-based channel model utilized for a wide-band transmission scenario has been exploited to derive a simulation model. Since the system bandwidth and the sub-carrier spacing is very limited in the range of a few kHz, the channel capacity of a UWA system is severely suffered by the ICI effect. For further investigation, we construct the signal-to-noise-plus-interference ratio (SINR) based on the simulation model, then evaluate the channel capacity. Numerical results show that the various factors of a UWA-OFDM system as subcarriers, bandwidth, and OFDM symbols affect the channel capacity under the different Doppler frequencies. Those observations give hints to select the good parameters for UWA-OFDM systems.

Hybrid plasmonic nano-emitters with controlled single quantum emitter positioning on the local excitation field

Hybrid plasmonic nanoemitters based on the combination of quantum dot emitters (QD) and plasmonic nanoantennas open up new perspectives in the control of light. However, precise positioning of any active medium at the nanoscale constitutes a challenge. Here, we report on the optimal overlap of antenna's near-field and active medium whose spatial distribution is controlled via a plasmon-triggered 2-photon polymerization of a photosensitive formulation containing QDs. Au nanoparticles of various geometries are considered. The response of these hybrid nano-emitters is shown to be highly sensitive to the light polarization. Different light emission states are evidenced by photoluminescence measurements. These states correspond to polarization-sensitive nanoscale overlap between the exciting local field and the active medium distribution. The decrease of the QD concentration within the monomer formulation allows trapping of a single quantum dot in the vicinity of the Au particle. The latter objects show polarization-dependent switching in the single-photon regime.
