Neutron Scattering Signature of Phonon Renormalization in Nickel (II) Oxide

The physics of mutual interaction of phonon quasiparticles with electronic spin degrees of freedom, leading to unusual transport phenomena of spin and heat, has been a subject of continuing interests for decades. Despite its pivotal role in transport processes, the effect of spin-phonon coupling on the phonon system, especially acoustic phonon properties, has so far been elusive. By means of inelastic neutron scattering and first-principles calculations, anomalous scattering spectral intensity from acoustic phonons was identified in the exemplary collinear antiferromagnetic nickel (II) oxide, unveiling strong spin-lattice correlations that renormalize the polarization of acoustic phonon. In particular, a clear magnetic scattering signature of the measured neutron scattering intensity from acoustic phonons is demonstrated by its momentum transfer and temperature dependences. The anomalous scattering intensity is successfully modeled with a modified magneto-vibrational scattering cross section, suggesting the presence of spin precession driven by phonon. The renormalization of phonon eigenvector is indicated by the observed "geometry-forbidden" neutron scattering intensity from transverse acoustic phonon. Importantly, the eigenvector renormalization cannot be explained by magnetostriction but instead, it could result from the coupling between phonon and local magnetization of ions.

On Large Values of $|ζ(σ+{\rm i}t)|$

We investigate the extreme values of the Riemann zeta function $ζ(s)$. On the 1-line, we obtain a lower bound evaluation $$\max_{t\in[1,T]}|ζ(1+ıt)|\ge {\rm e}^γ(\log_2T+\log_3T+c),$$ with an effective constant $c$ which improves the result of Aistleitner, Mahatab and Munsch. In the half-critical strip $1/2<\re s<1$, we get an improved $c(σ)$ in the evaluation $$\max_{t\in[0,T]}\log|ζ(σ+ıt)|\ge c(σ)\frac{(\log T)^{1-σ}}{(\log_2T)^σ},$$ when $σ\searrow 1/2$, based on an improved lower bound of GCD sums. This improves the result of Bondarenko and Seip.

Hybrid plasmonic nano-emitters with controlled single quantum emitter positioning on the local excitation field

Hybrid plasmonic nanoemitters based on the combination of quantum dot emitters (QD) and plasmonic nanoantennas open up new perspectives in the control of light. However, precise positioning of any active medium at the nanoscale constitutes a challenge. Here, we report on the optimal overlap of antenna's near-field and active medium whose spatial distribution is controlled via a plasmon-triggered 2-photon polymerization of a photosensitive formulation containing QDs. Au nanoparticles of various geometries are considered. The response of these hybrid nano-emitters is shown to be highly sensitive to the light polarization. Different light emission states are evidenced by photoluminescence measurements. These states correspond to polarization-sensitive nanoscale overlap between the exciting local field and the active medium distribution. The decrease of the QD concentration within the monomer formulation allows trapping of a single quantum dot in the vicinity of the Au particle. The latter objects show polarization-dependent switching in the single-photon regime.
