Application of the weak-binding relation with range correction

The weak-binding relation is a useful tool to study the internal structure of hadrons from the observable quantities. We introduce the range correction in the weak-binding relation for the system having a sizable magnitude of the effective range, and show that the applicability of the weak-binding relation can be enlarged by the range correction. Thanks to the low-energy universality, the weak-binding relation can be used to study the structure of shallow bound states in any systems with different length scales. We apply the weak-binding relation to actual systems, including hadrons, hypernuclei, and atoms and show the importance of the range correction.

Femtoscopic study on $DD^*$ and $D\bar{D}^*$ interactions for $T_{cc}$ and $X(3872)$

We investigate $DD^*$ and $D\bar{D}^*$ momentum correlations in high-energy collisions to elucidate the nature of $T_{cc}$ and $X(3872)$ exotic hadrons. Single range Gaussian potentials with the channel couplings to the isospin partners are constructed based on the empirical data. The momentum correlation functions of the $D^0D^{*+}$, $D^+D^{*0}$, $D^0\bar{D}^{*0}$, and $D^+D^{*-}$ pairs are computed with including the coupled-channel effects. We discuss how the nature of the exotic states are reflected in the behaviors of the correlation results.

Structure of exotic hadrons by a weak-binding relation with finite-range correction

The composite nature of a shallow bound state is studied by using the weak-binding relation, which connects the compositeness of the bound state with observables. We first show that the previous weak-binding relation cannot be applied to the system with a large effective range. To overcome this difficulty, we introduce the finite-range correction by redefining the typical length scale in the weak-binding relation. A method to estimate the uncertainty of the compositeness is proposed. It is numerically demonstrated that the range correction enlarges the applicable region of the weak-binding relation. Finally, we apply the improved weak-binding relation to the actual hadrons, nuclei, and atomic systems [deuteron, $X(3872)$, $D^{*}_{s0}(2317)$, $D_{s1}(2460)$, $NΩ$ dibaryon, $ΩΩ$ dibaryon, ${}^{3}_Λ{\rm H}$, and ${}^{4}{\rm He}$ dimer] to discuss their internal structure from the compositeness. We present a reasonable estimation of the compositeness of the deuteron by properly taking into account the uncertainty. The results of $X(3872)$ and the $NΩ$ dibaryon show that the range correction is important to estimate the compositeness of physical states.

Theory of kaon-nuclear systems

The strong interaction between an antikaon and a nucleon is at the origin of various interesting phenomena in kaon-nuclear systems. In particular, the interaction in the isospin $I=0$ channel is sufficiently attractive to generate a quasi-bound state, the $Λ(1405)$ resonance, below the $\bar{K}N$ threshold. Based on this picture, it may be expected that the $\bar{K}N$ interaction also generates quasi-bound states in kaon-nuclear systems, sometimes called kaonic nuclei. At the same time, the $\bar{K}N$ quasi-bound picture of the $Λ(1405)$ is also related to the discussion of hadronic molecules in hadron spectroscopy. Here an overview is presented of the theoretical studies developed for kaon-nucleon and kaon-nuclear systems. We start from the modern understanding of the $Λ(1405)$ resonance. We then discuss the $\bar{K}N$ interaction and various aspects of few-body kaonic nuclei. Heavier kaon-nuclear systems are examined from the viewpoint of nuclear many-body physics, with focus on the properties of antikaons in nuclear matter. Related topics, such as the $K^{-}p$ momentum correlation functions in high-energy collisions and the studies of kaonic atoms, are also discussed.

Role of the effective range in the weak-binding relation

We study the range correction in the weak-binding relation, which relates the internal structure of hadrons with the scattering length and the binding energy. Utilizing the effective field theories, we show that the effective range originates from the derivative coupling interaction as well as from the channel coupling to the bare state, and that the different contributions are not distinguishable. By examining the compositeness in the effective field theories, it is demonstrated that the effective range induces the finite range correction for the weak-binding relation in addition to the previously known contributions. We thus propose to include the range correction in the uncertainty terms of the weak-binding relation.

$K^-p$ Correlation Function from High-Energy Nuclear Collisions and Chiral SU(3) Dynamics

The two-particle momentum correlation function of a K^-p pair from high-energy nuclear collisions is evaluated in the KbarN-piSigma-piLambda coupled-channels framework. The effects of all coupled channels together with the Coulomb potential and the threshold energy difference between K^-p and Kbar0 n are treated completely for the first time. Realistic potentials based on the chiral SU(3) dynamics are used which fit the available scattering data. The recently measured correlation function is found to be well reproduced by allowing variations of the source size and the relative weight of the source function of piSigma with respect to that of KbarN. The predicted K^-p correlation function from larger systems, which is less affected by the piSigma source function, indicates that the investigation of its source size dependence is useful in providing further constraints in the study of the KbarN interaction.

Dynamically generated hadron resonances

Recent developments in hadron spectroscopy triggers the discussion on various exotic configurations beyond the simple three-quark state for baryons and quark-anti-quark pair for mesons. In particular, the states observed near a two-hadron threshold are often regarded as candidates of hadronic molecules, which are made of constituent hadrons and dynamically generated by the hadronic interactions. However, identification of the hadronic molecules involves several subtle difficulties which are often overlooked or underestimated. Here we summarize these subtleties and present a promising approach to distinguish the dynamically generated states from others using observable quantities.

Probing $ΩΩ$ and $pΩ$ dibaryons with femtoscopic correlations in relativistic heavy-ion collisions

The momentum correlation functions of baryon pairs, which reflects the baryon-baryon interaction at low energies, are investigated for multi-strangeness pairs ($ΩΩ$ and $NΩ$) produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. We calculate the correlation functions based on an expanding source model constrained by single-particle distributions. The interaction potentials are taken from those obtained from recent lattice QCD calculations at nearly physical quark masses. Experimental measurements of these correlation functions for different system sizes will help to disentangle the strong interaction between baryons and to unravel the possible existence of strange dibaryons.

Quark mass dependence of H-dibaryon in $ΛΛ$ scattering

We study the quark mass dependence of the H-dibaryon in the strangeness $S=-2$ baryon-baryon scattering. A low-energy effective field theory is used to describe the coupled-channel scattering, in which the quark mass dependence is incorporated so as to reproduce the lattice QCD data by the HAL QCD collaboration in the SU(3) limit. We point out the existence of the Castillejo-Dalitz-Dyson (CDD) pole in the $ΛΛ$ scattering amplitude below the threshold in the SU(3) limit, which may cause the Ramsauer-Townsend effect near the $NΞ$ threshold at the physical point. The H-dibaryon is unbound at the physical point, and a resonance appears just below the $NΞ$ threshold. As a consequence of the coupled-channel dynamics, the pole associated with the resonance is not continuously connected to the bound state in the SU(3) limit. Through the extrapolation in quark masses, we show that the unitary limit of the $ΛΛ$ scattering is achieved between the physical point and the SU(3) limit. We discuss the possible realization of the "H-matter" in the unphysical quark mass region.

Antikaon-nucleon interaction and Lambda(1405) in chiral SU(3) dynamics

The properties of the Lambda(1405) resonance are key ingredients for determining the antikaon-nucleon interaction in strangeness nuclear physics, and the novel internal structure of the Lambda(1405) is of great interest in hadron physics, as a prototype case of a baryon that does not fit into the simple three-quark picture. We show that a quantitative description of the antikaon-nucleon interaction with the Lambda(1405) is achieved in the framework of chiral SU(3) dynamics, with the help of recent experimental progress. Further constraints on the Kbar N subthreshold interaction are provided by analyzing pi Sigma spectra in various processes, such as the K-d -> pi Sigma n reaction and the Lambda_c -> pi pi Sigma decay. The structure of the Lambda(1405) is found to be dominated by an antikaon-nucleon molecular configuration, based on its wavefunction derived from a realistic Kbar N potential and the compositeness criteria from a model-independent weak-binding relation.

Effective field theory and the scattering process for magnons in the ferromagnet, antiferromagnet, and ferrimagnet

We discuss that a low-energy effective Lagrangian relying on SO(3) $\rightarrow$ SO(2) is applicable for a ferrimagnet as well as a ferromagnet and an antiferromagnet. The analysis of the particle states shows that there exist not only massless modes with the dispersion relations $ω\propto |\bm{k}|,\, |\bm{k}|^2$, i.e., the so-called type-I and type-II Nambu-Goldstone modes, respectively, but also gapped modes with $ω\propto m^2+|\bm{k}|^2$. We clarify how the coefficients of the terms with one time derivative and those with two time derivatives in the effective Lagrangian determine the order parameters specifying whether the system is in a ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic state; we stress that the gapped mode related to the spontaneous symmetry breaking appears only in the ferrimagnetic system and not in the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic systems. We also establish the power counting scheme and calculate the scattering amplitudes and thereby the scattering lengths between the two Nambu-Goldstone bosons. We show that the scattering length of the gapped mode is finite and proportional to the gap. This characteristic property of the gapped NG mode can be used to discriminate it from gapped excitations which originate in other mechanisms. Finally, we study the effects of the explicit symmetry breaking that are given by an external magnetic field and a single-ion anisotropy, and show that the external magnetic fields do not have any effects on the scattering amplitudes in all the spin systems as was known for the ferromagnet system. In contrast, the anisotropy does affect the scattering amplitudes, the phase shift, and the scattering length except for spin 1/2 systems. This result supports the possibility of the Efimov effect in spin systems discussed in previous studies.

Hadron-Hadron Correlation and Interaction from Heavy-Ion Collisions

We investigate the $ΛΛ$ and $K^-p$ intensity correlations in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. First, we examine the dependence of the $ΛΛ$ correlation on the $ΛΛ$ interaction and the $ΛΛ$ pair purity probability $λ$. For small $λ$, the correlation function needs to be suppressed by the $ΛΛ$ interaction in order to explain the recently measured $ΛΛ$ correlation data. By comparison, when we adopt the $λ$ value evaluated from the experimentally measured $Σ^0/Λ$ ratio, the correlation function needs to be enhanced by the interaction. We demonstrate that these two cases correspond to the two analyses which gave opposite signs of the $ΛΛ$ scattering length. Next, we discuss the $K^-p$ correlation function. By using the local $\bar{K}N$ potential which reproduces the kaonic hydrogen data by SIDDHARTA, we obtain the $K^-p$ correlation function. We find that the $K^-p$ correlation can provide a complementary information with the $K^{-}p$ elastic scattering amplitude.

Structure of near-threshold quasi-bound states

We study the compositeness of near-threshold quasi-bound states in the framework of effective field theory. From the viewpoint of the low-energy universality, we revisit the model-independent relations between the structure of the bound state and the observables in the weak binding limit. The effective field theory is utilized to generalize the weak-binding relation of the stable bound states to unstable quasi-bound states with decay modes. We present the interpretation of the complex values of the compositeness for the unstable states. Combining the model-independent relation and the threshold observables extracted from the experimental data, we show that Lambda(1405) is dominated by the Kbar N molecular structure and that a_0(980) is dominated by the non-Kbar K component.

Structure of the $Λ(1405)$ and the $K^-d\rightarrowπΣn$ reaction

The $Λ(1405)$ resonance production reaction is investigated within the framework of the coupled-channels Alt-Grassberger-Sandhas (AGS) equations. We perform full three-body calculations for the $\bar{K}NN-πYN$ amplitudes on the physical real energy axis and investigate how the signature of the $Λ(1405)$ appears in the cross sections of the $K^-d\rightarrow πΣn$ reactions, also in view of the planned E31 experiment at J-PARC. Two types of meson-baryon interaction models are considered: an energy-dependent interaction based on chiral $SU(3)$ effective field theory, and an energy-independent version that has been used repeatedly in phenomenological approaches. These two models have different off-shell properties that imply correspondingly different behavior in the three-body system. We investigate how these features show up in differential cross sections of $K^- d\rightarrow πΣn$ reactions. Characteristic patterns distinguishing between the two models are found in the invariant mass spectrum of the final $πΣ$ state. The $K^-d\rightarrow πΣn$ reaction, with different ($π^{\pm}Σ^{\mp}$ and $π^{0}Σ^{0}$) charge combinations in the final state, is thus demonstrated to be a useful tool for investigating the subthreshold behavior of the $\bar{K}N$ interaction.

Weak decays of heavy hadrons into dynamically generated resonances

In this review we give a perspective of the theoretical work done recently on the interpretation of results from $B$, $D$, $Λ_b$, $Λ_c$ weak decays into final states that contain interacting hadrons, and how it is possible to obtain additional valuable information that is increasing our understanding of hadron interactions and the nature of many hadronic resonances. The novelty of these processes is that one begins with a clean picture at the quark level which allows one to select the basic mechanisms by means of which the process proceeds. Finally, one has a final state described in terms of quarks. To make contact with the experiments, where mesons and baryons are observed, one must hadronize, creating pairs of $q \bar q$ and writing the new states in terms of mesons and baryons. This concludes the primary hadron production in these processes. After that, the interaction of these hadrons takes place, offering a rich spectrum of resonances and special features from where it is possible to learn much about the interaction of these hadrons and the nature of many resonances in terms of the components of their wave functions.

Composite nature of Lambda(1405) from the spacial structure of KbarN system

We discuss the spacial structure of the resonance state, Lambda(1405), solving the Schrodinger equation with the KbarN local potential. The potential is constructed by paying attention to the two points, the constraint from the recent experimental data and the reliability in the complex energy region. Using the new local potential, we investigate the KbarN spacial structure and obtain the result indicating that Lambda(1405) is the meson-baryon molecular state, that is, the composite state.

Compositeness of Near Threshold Quasi-Bound States

We study the compositeness of unstable hadrons which lie near the two-hadron threshold. In the framework of the effective field theory, we derive the relation between the compositeness of stable bound states with observables. We then extend this relation for the quasi-bound states with finite decay width. A prescription to interpret the complex value of the compositeness is presented. With this method, we show that Lambda(1405) is dominated by the Kbar N composite component and a_0(980) have only small Kbar K fraction.

Comprehensive analysis of the wave function of a hadronic resonance and its compositeness

We develop a theoretical framework to investigate the two-body composite structure of a resonance as well as a bound state from its wave function. For this purpose, we introduce both one-body bare states and two-body scattering states, and define the compositeness as a fraction of the contribution of the two-body wave function to the normalization of the total wave function. Writing down explicitly the wave function for a resonance state obtained with a general separable interaction, we formulate the compositeness in terms of the position of the resonance pole, the residue of the scattering amplitude at the pole and the derivative of the Green function of the free two-body scattering system. At the same time, our formulation provides the elementariness expressed with the resonance properties and the two-body effective interaction, and confirms the sum rule showing that the summation of the compositeness and elementariness gives unity. In this formulation the Weinberg's relation for the scattering length and effective range can be derived in the weak binding limit. The extension to the resonance states is performed with the Gamow vector, and a relativistic formulation is also established. As its applications, we study the compositeness of the $Λ(1405)$ resonance and the light scalar and vector mesons described with refined amplitudes in coupled-channel models with interactions up to the next to leading order in chiral perturbation theory. We find that $Λ(1405)$ and $f_{0}(980)$ are dominated by the $\bar{K} N$ and $K \bar{K}$ composite states, respectively, while the vector mesons $ρ(770)$ and $K^{\ast} (892)$ are elementary. We also briefly discuss the compositeness of $N (1535)$ and $Λ(1670)$ obtained in a leading-order chiral unitary approach.

Construction of KbarN potential and structure of Lambda(1405) based on chiral unitary approach

Based on chiral unitary approach, we construct the realistic KbarN local potential, which is useful for the quantitative calculation of Kbar-nuclei. Since the resonance pole structure of the KbarN system seems important for the Kbar-nuclei and the spacial structure of Lambda(1405), we establish the construction procedure of the local potential paying attention to the scattering amplitude in the complex energy plane. Furthermore, for the quantitative study of the Kbar-nuclei, we consider the constraint from the recent experimental data measured by SIDDHARTA, which significantly reduces the uncertainty of the KbarN amplitude. With this new local potential, we estimate the spacial structure of Lambda(1405) and obtain the result indicating the meson-baryon molecular state of Lambda(1405).

Structure of Lambda(1405) and construction of KbarN local potential based on chiral SU(3) dynamics

We develop the single-channel local potential for the KbarN system, which is applicable to quantitative studies of Kbar bound states in nuclei. Because the high precision measurement of the kaonic hydrogen by SIDDHARTA reduces the uncertainty of the KbarN amplitude below the KbarN threshold, the local potential should be calibrated in a wide energy region. We establish a new method to construct the local potential focusing on the behavior of the scattering amplitude in the complex energy plane. Applying this method, we construct the KbarN potential based on the chiral coupled-channel approach with the SIDDHARTA constraint. The wave function from the new potential indicates the KbarN molecular structure of Lambda(1405).

Weak decay of Lambda_c^+ for the study of Lambda(1405) and Lambda(1670)

We study the Lambda_c decay process to pi^+ and the meson-baryon final state for the analysis of Lambda resonances. Considering the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix, color suppression, diquark correlation and the kinematical condition, we show that the final meson-baryon state should be in a pure I=0 combination, when the meson-baryon invariant mass is small. Because the I=1 contamination usually makes it difficult to analyze Lambda resonances directly from experiments, the Lambda_c decay is an ideal process to study Lambda resonances. Calculating the final state interaction by chiral unitary approaches, we find that the piSigma invariant mass distributions have the same peak structure in the all charge combination of the piSigma states related to the higher pole of the two poles of the Lambda(1405). Furthermore, we obtain a clear the Lambda(1670) peak structure in the KbarN and etaLambda spectra.

What We Know About the Lambda(1405)

The current status of the Lambda(1405) resonance in the Kbar N scattering is summarized. It is shown that the precise experimental data and the theoretical developments in chiral SU(3) dynamics enable us to quantitatively understand the physics around the Kbar N threshold. $K^-d\rightarrow πΣn$ reactions and structure of the $Λ(1405)$

We report on the first results of a full three-body calculation of the $\bar{K}NN$-$πYN$ amplitude for the $K^-d\rightarrowπΣn$ reaction, and examine how the $Λ(1405)$ resonance manifests itself in the neutron energy distributions of $K^-d\rightarrowπΣn$ reactions. The amplitudes are computed using the $\bar{K}NN$-$πYN$ coupled-channels Alt-Grassberger-Sandhas (AGS) equations. Two types of models are considered for the two-body meson-baryon interactions: an energy-independent interaction and an energy-dependent one, both derived from the leading order chiral SU(3) Lagrangian. These two models have different off-shell properties that cause correspondingly different behaviors in the three-body system. As a remarkable result of this investigation, it is found that the neutron energy spectrum, reflecting the $Λ(1405)$ mass distribution and width, depends quite sensitively on the (energy-dependent or energy-independent) model used. Hence accurate measurements of the $πΣ$ mass distribution have the potential to discriminate between possible mechanisms at work in the formation of the $Λ(1405)$.

Hadron mass scaling near the s-wave threshold

The influence of a two-hadron threshold is studied for the hadron mass scaling with respect to some quantum chromodynamics parameters. A quantum mechanical model is introduced to describe the system with a one-body bare state coupled with a single elastic two-body scattering. The general behavior of the energy of the bound and resonance state near the two-body threshold for a local potential is derived from the expansion of the Jost function around the threshold. It is shown that the same scaling holds for the nonlocal potential induced by the coupling to a bare state. In p or higher partial waves, the scaling law of the stable bound state continues across the threshold describing the real part of the resonance energy. In contrast, the leading contribution of the scaling is forbidden by the nonperturbative dynamics near the s-wave threshold. As a consequence, the bound state energy is not continuously connected to the real part of the resonance energy. This universal behavior originates in the vanishing of the field renormalization constant of the zero-energy resonance in the s wave. A proof is given for the vanishing of the field renormalization constant, together with a detailed discussion.

Size measurement of dynamically generated hadronic resonances with finite volume effect

The structures of the hyperon resonance $Λ(1405)$ and the scalar mesons $σ$, $f_{0}(980)$, and $a_{0}(980)$ are investigated based on the coupled-channels chiral dynamics with finite volume effect. The finite volume effect is utilized to extract the coupling constant, compositeness, and mean squared distance between two constituents of a Feshbach resonance state as well as a stable bound state. In this framework, the real-valued size of the resonance can be defined from the downward shift of the resonance pole according to the decreasing finite box size $L$ on a given closed channel. As a result, we observe that, when putting the $\bar{K}N$ and $K\bar{K}$ channels into a finite box while other channels being unchanged, the poles of the higher $Λ(1405)$ and $f_{0}(980)$ move to lower energies while other poles do not show downward mass shift, which implies large $\bar{K}N$ and $K\bar{K}$ components inside higher $Λ(1405)$ and $f_{0}(980)$, respectively. Extracting structures of $Λ(1405)$ and $f_{0}(980)$ in our method, we find that the compositeness of $\bar{K}N$ ($K\bar{K}$) inside $Λ(1405)$ [$f_{0}(980)$] is 0.82-1.03 (0.73-0.97) and the mean distance between two constituents is evaluated as 1.7-1.9 fm (2.6-3.0 fm).

Universal physics of three bosons with isospin

We show that there exist two types of universal phenomena for three-boson systems with isospin degrees of freedom. In the isospin symmetric limit, there is only one universal three-boson bound state with the total isospin one, whose binding energy is proportional to that of the two-boson bound state. With large isospin symmetry breaking, the standard Efimov states of three identical bosons appear at low energies. Both phenomena can be realized by three pions with the pion mass appropriately tuned in lattice QCD simulations, or by spin-one bosons in cold atom experiments. Implication to the in-medium softening of multi-pion states is also discussed.

Production of doubly charmed tetraquarks with exotic color configurations in electron-positron collisions

Structure and production of doubly charmed tetraquarks T_cc (cc ubar dbar) are studied from the viewpoint of color configurations. Based on the diquark correlation, the tetraquark T_cc with I(JP)=0(1+) is considered to be stable against strong decay. We discuss that the mixing probability of color antitriplet and sextet cc components in T_cc is suppressed by 1/m_c^2, so the two configurations are separately realized in the heavy quark limit. Utilizing the nonrelativistic QCD framework, we evaluate the production cross sections of T_cc in electron-positron collisions. The momentum dependence of the cross section of color antitriplet is found to be different from that of sextet, which can be used to discriminate the color structure of the T_cc states in experimental measurements.

Size measurement of dynamically generated resonances with finite boxes

The structure of dynamically generated states is studied from a viewpoint of the finite volume effect. We establish the relation between the spatial size of a stable bound state and the finite volume mass shift. In a single-channel scattering model, this relation is shown to be valid for a bound state dominated by the two-body molecule component. We generalize this method to the case of a quasi-bound state with finite width in coupled-channel scattering. We define the real-valued size of the resonance in a given closed channel using the response to the finite volume effect on the channel. Applying this method to physical resonances we find that Lambda(1405) and f_{0}(980) are dominated by the Kbar N and K Kbar scattering states, respectively, and that the distance between Kbar N (K Kbar) inside Lambda(1405) [f_{0}(980)] is 1.7-1.9 fm (2.6-3.0 fm). The root mean squared radii of Lambda(1405) and f_0(980) are also estimated from the mean distance between constituents.

Structure and compositeness of hadron resonances

The structure of the hadron resonances attracts much attention, in association with the recent observations of various exotic hadrons which do not fit well in the conventional picture. These findings urge us to consider various new configurations such as the multiquark states and the hadronic molecules. However, it is a subtle problem to define a proper classification scheme for the hadron structure, and the nonzero decay width of the hadron resonances makes the analysis complicated. In this paper, we summarize the recent developments in the studies of the structure of the hadron resonances, focusing on the notion of the compositeness in terms of the hadronic degrees of freedom.

Structure of Near-Threshold s-Wave Resonances

We study the structure of two-body s-wave bound states as well as resonances in the threshold energy region. We focus on the single-channel scattering where the scattering length and the effective range are given by real numbers. It is shown that, in the energy region where the effective range expansion is valid, the properties of resonances are constrained only by the position of the pole. We find that the compositeness defined through the analytic continuation of the field renormalization constant is pure imaginary and normalized for resonances. We discuss the interpretation of this quantity by examining the structure of the hadron resonance Lambda_c(2595) in the pi Sigma_c scattering. We show that the Lambda_c(2595) resonance requires an unnaturally large effective range and hence it is not likely a pi Sigma_c molecule.

Chiral SU(3) theory of antikaon-nucleon interactions with improved threshold constraints

$\bar{K}$-nucleon interactions are investigated in the framework of coupled-channels dynamics based on the next-to-leading order chiral SU(3) meson-baryon effective Lagrangian. A recent determination of the 1s shift and width of kaonic hydrogen enables us to set accurate constraints on the coupled-channels meson-baryon amplitudes in the strangeness $S=-1$ sector. Theoretical uncertainties in the subthreshold extrapolation of the coupled-channels amplitudes are discussed. Using this framework, we give predictions for $K^-$-neutron interactions and for the spectrum of the $Λ(1405)$ resonance. A simplified, effective three-channel model using leading order chiral SU(3) meson-baryon interactions is also constructed for convenient application in $\bar{K}$-nuclear few-body calculations.

Compositeness of dynamically generated states in a chiral unitary approach

The structure of dynamically generated states in the chiral unitary approach is studied from a viewpoint of their compositeness. We analyze the properties of bound states, virtual states, and resonances in a single-channel chiral unitary approach, paying attention to the energy dependence of the chiral interaction. We define the compositeness of a bound state using the field renormalization constant which is given by the overlap of the bare state and the physical state in the nonrelativistic quantum mechanics, or by the residue of the bound state propagator in the relativistic field theory. The field renormalization constant enables one to define a normalized quantitative measure of compositeness of the bound state. Applying this scheme to the chiral unitary approach, we find that the bound state generated by the energy-independent interaction is always a purely composite particle, while the energy-dependent chiral interaction introduces the elementary component, depending on the value of the cutoff parameter. This feature agrees with the analysis of the effective interaction by changing the cutoff parameter. A purely composite bound state can be realized by the chiral interaction only when the bound state lies at the threshold or when the strength of the two-body attractive interaction is infinitely large. The natural renormalization scheme, introduced by the property of the loop function and the matching with the chiral low-energy theorem, is shown to generate a bound state which is dominated by the composite structure when the binding energy is small.

Determination of the pi Sigma scattering lengths from the weak decays of Lambda_c

The scattering lengths of the pi Sigma systems are key quantities in understanding the structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance and the subthreshold extrapolation of the barK N interaction. We demonstrate that the pi Sigma scattering lengths can be extracted from the threshold cusp phenomena in the weak Lambda_c -> pi pi Sigma decays, analogously with Cabibbo's method for determination of the pi pi scattering length. We show that the substantial cusp effect should be observed in the spectrum, when the pi Sigma interaction in I=0 is strongly attractive to generate a near-threshold singularity, such as a bound state or a virtual state.

Discriminating hadronic molecular and multi-quark states is a long standing problem in hadronic physics. We propose here to utilize relativistic heavy ion collisions to resolve this problem, as exotic hadron yields are expected to be strongly affected by their structures. Using the coalescence model, we find that the exotic hadron yield relative to the statistical model result is typically an order of magnitude smaller for a compact multi-quark state, and larger by a factor of two or more for a loosely bound hadronic molecule. We further find that some of the newly proposed heavy exotic states could be produced and realistically measured at RHIC and LHC.

Hadron resonances with coexistence of different natures

We discuss coexistence/mixing of different natures of hadronic composite (molecule) and elementary (quark-intrinsic) ones in hadron resonances. The discussions here are based on our previous publications on the origin of hadron resonances \cite{Hyodo:2008xr}, exotic $\bar D$ meson-nucleons as hadronic composites containing one anti-heavy quark \cite{Yamaguchi:2011xb}, and the study of $a_1$ as a typical example to show explicitly the mixing of the two different natures \cite{Nagahiro:2011jn}. In all cases, interactions are derived from the chiral dynamics of the light flavor sector. These interactions generate in various cases hadronic composite/molecule states, serving varieties of structure beyond the conventional quark model.

Improved constraints on chiral SU(3) dynamics from kaonic hydrogen

A new improved study of K^- - proton interactions near threshold is performed using coupled-channels dynamics based on the next-to-leading order chiral SU(3) meson-baryon effective Lagrangian. Accurate constraints are now provided by new high-precision kaonic hydrogen measurements. Together with threshold branching ratios and scattering data, these constraints permit an updated analysis of the complex barK N and pi Sigma coupled-channels amplitudes and an improved determination of the K^- p scattering length, including uncertainty estimates.

Internal structure of resonant Lambda(1405) state in chiral dynamics

The internal structure of the resonant Lambda(1405) state is investigated based on meson-baryon coupled-channels chiral dynamics, by evaluating density distributions obtained from the form factors of the Lambda(1405) state. The form factors are defined as an extension of the ordinary stable particles and are directly evaluated from the meson-baryon scattering amplitude, paying attention to the charge conservation of the probe interaction. For the resonant Lambda(1405) state we calculate the density distributions in two ways. One is on the pole position of the Lambda(1405) in the complex energy plane, which evaluates the resonant Lambda(1405) structure without contamination from nonresonant backgrounds, and another on the real energy axis around the Lambda(1405) resonance energy, which may be achieved in experiments. Using sereval probe interactions and channel decomposition, we separate the various contributions to the internal structure of the Lambda(1405). As a result, we find that the resonant Lambda(1405) state is composed of widely spread Kbar around N, which gives dominant component inside the Lambda(1405), with escaping pi Sigma component. Furthermore, we consider Kbar N bound state without decay channels, with which we can observe the internal structure of the bound state within real numbers. We also study the dependence of the form factors on the binding energy and meson mass. This verifies that the form factor defined through the scattering amplitude serves as a natural generalization of the form factor for the resonance state. The relation between the interaction strength and the meson mass shows that the physical kaon mass appears to be within the suitable range to form a molecular bound state with the nucleon through the chiral SU(3) interaction.

Internal structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance probed in chiral unitary amplitude

The internal structure of the resonant Lambda(1405) state is investigated based on meson-baryon coupled-channels chiral dynamics. We evaluate Lambda(1405) form factors which are extracted from current-coupled scattering amplitudes in meson-baryon degrees of freedom. Using several probe currents and channel decomposition, we find that the resonant Lambda(1405) state is dominantly composed of widely spread Kbar around N, with escaping pi Sigma component.

Meson-baryon interactions and baryon resonances

Meson-baryon interactions are the fundamental building blocks to study the structures of baryon resonances and meson properties in few-body nuclear systems. We review the recent progress in the investigation of the meson-baryon interaction in the strangeness S=-1 sector and the structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance. In particular, we present an attempt to construct a realistic Kbar N-pi Sigma interaction in chiral SU(3) dynamics in response to the precise measurement of the kaonic hydrogen, and discuss the subthreshold extrapolation of the Kbar N interaction with the information of the pi Sigma channel.

Multi-quark hadrons from Heavy Ion Collisions

Identifying hadronic molecular states and/or hadrons with multi-quark components either with or without exotic quantum numbers is a long standing challenge in hadronic physics. We suggest that studying the production of these hadrons in relativistic heavy ion collisions offer a promising resolution to this problem as yields of exotic hadrons are expected to be strongly affected by their structures. Using the coalescence model for hadron production, we find that compared to the case of a non-exotic hadron with normal quark numbers, the yield of an exotic hadron is typically an order of magnitude smaller when it is a compact multi-quark state and a factor of two or more larger when it is a loosely bound hadronic molecule. We further find that due to the appreciable numbers of charm and bottom quarks produced in heavy ion collisions at RHIC and even larger numbers expected at LHC, some of the newly proposed heavy exotic states could be produced and realistically measured in these experiments.

Probing internal structure of Lambda(1405) in meson-baryon dynamics with chiral symmetry

The internal structure of the resonant Lambda(1405) state is investigated based on meson-baryon coupled-channels chiral dynamics, by evaluating density distributions obtained from the form factors of the Lambda(1405) state. The form factors are extracted from current-coupled scattering amplitudes in which the current is coupled to the constituent hadrons inside Lambda(1405). Using several probe interactions and channel decomposition, we find that the resonant Lambda(1405) state is dominantly composed of widely spread Kbar around N, with a small fraction of the escaping pi Sigma component.

Structure of Lambda(1405) and threshold behavior of piSigma scattering

The scattering length and effective range of the piSigma channel are studied in order to characterize the strangeness S=-1 meson-baryon scattering and the Lambda(1405) resonance. We examine various off-shell dependence of the amplitude in dynamical chiral models to evaluate the threshold quantities with the constraint at the KbarN threshold. We find that the piSigma threshold parameters are important to the structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance and provide further constraints on the subthreshold extrapolation of the KbarN interaction.

Studying Exotic Hadrons in Heavy Ion Collisions

We investigate the possibilities of using measurements in present and future experiments on heavy ion collisions to answer some longstanding problems in hadronic physics, namely identifying hadronic molecular states and exotic hadrons with multiquark components. The yields of a selected set of exotic hadron candidates in relativistic heavy ion collisions are discussed in the coalescence model in comparison with the statistical model. We find that the yield of a hadron is typically an order of magnitude smaller when it is a compact multiquark state, compared to that of an excited hadronic state with normal quark numbers. We also find that some loosely bound hadronic molecules are formed more abundantly than the statistical model prediction by a factor of two or more. Moreover, due to the significant numbers of charm and bottom quarks produced at RHIC and even larger numbers expected at LHC, some of the proposed heavy exotic hadrons could be produced with sufficient abundance for detection, making it possible to study these new exotic hadrons in heavy ion collisions.

The Lambda* N interaction and two-body bound state based on chiral dynamics

The interaction of Lambda*=Lambda(1405) with a nucleon is studied from the viewpoint of chiral dynamics. We construct the coordinate space Lambda* N potential in the meson-exchange picture, which serves as a fundamental ingredient for the study of the few-body nuclear systems with a Lambda*, the Lambda*-hypernuclei. The coupling constants concerning Lambda* are determined based on the chiral unitary model picture for the meson-baryon scattering where Lambda* is described as a superposition of two resonance poles. Solving the coupled-channel two-body Lambda* N system, we find the higher energy Lambda* N state develops an s-wave quasi-bound state slightly below the threshold in the total spin S=0 channel, which acquires a finite width through the coupling to the lower energy Lambda* N channel. We show important roles of the Kbar exchange contribution to the Lambda* N potential.

The nature of the Lambda(1405) resonance in chiral dynamics

The Lambda(1405) baryon resonance plays an outstanding role in various aspects in hadron and nuclear physics. It has been considered that the Lambda(1405) resonance is generated by the attractive interaction of the antikaon and the nucleon, as a quasi-bound state below the threshold decaying into the pi Sigma channel. Thus, the structure of Lambda(1405) is closely related to the Kbar N interaction which is the fundamental ingredient to study few-body systems with antikaon. In this paper, after reviewing the basic properties of the Lambda(1405) resonance, we introduce the dynamical coupled-channel model which respects chiral symmetry of QCD and the unitarity of the scattering amplitude. We show that the structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance is dominated by the meson-baryon molecule component and is described as a superposition of two independent states. The meson-baryon nature of Lambda(1405) leads to various hadronic molecule states in few-body systems with strangeness which are hadron composite systems driven by the hadronic interactions. We summarize the recent progress in the investigation of the Lambda(1405) structure and future perspective of the physics of the Lambda(1405) resonance.

Chiral dynamics and baryon resonances

The structure of baryon resonance in coupled-channel meson-baryon scattering is studied from the viewpoint of chiral dynamics. The meson-baryon scattering amplitude can be successfully described together with the properties of the resonance in the scattering, by implementing the unitarity condition for the amplitude whose low energy structure is constrained by chiral theorem. Recently, there have been a major progress in the study of the structure of the resonance in chiral dynamics. We review the methods to clarify the structure of the resonance by focusing on the Lambda(1405) resonance.

Compositeness of bound states in chiral unitary approach

We study the structure of dynamically generated bound states in the chiral unitary approach. The compositeness of a bound state is defined through the wavefunction renormalization constant in the nonrelativistic field theory. We apply this argument to the chiral unitary approach and derive the relation between compositeness of the bound state and the subtraction constant of the loop integral. The compositeness condition is fairly compatible with the natural renormalization scheme, previously introduced in a different context.

Nature of the sigma meson as revealed by its softening process

The pi pi scattering is studied in two-flavor chiral models with a finite pion mass to investigate the nature of the sigma meson which is observed as the lowest scalar-isoscalar resonance. We compare several models with different origins of the sigma meson, such as the chiral partner of the pion and the dynamically generated pi pi molecule. We find that the dynamically generated sigma meson exhibits a novel pattern of the threshold enhancement reflecting the s-wave nature of the resonance, which is qualitatively different from the softening of the chiral partner introduced as a bare field. This behavior around the threshold energy region is universal as far as the bare sigma pole stays away from the threshold throughout the symmetry restoration process. On the other hand, for m_pi=0, the dynamically generated sigma behaves similarly to the chiral partner in the symmetry restoration limit, implying the possibility of the dynamically generated chiral partner.

Meson-baryon nature of Lambda(1405) in chiral dynamics

We present the recent progress in the study on the origin of baryon resonances in chiral dynamics. It is shown that in the chiral coupled-channel approach, the form of the interaction cannot be specified due to the cutoff of the loop integral. To avoid this ambiguity, we propose a natural renormalization scheme, which affords a clue to the origin of the resonance, together with the phenomenological fitting to experimental data. We study the structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance in comparison with the N(1535).

Origin of resonances in chiral dynamics

The nature of baryon resonances is studied in the dynamical chiral coupled-channel approach for meson-baryon scattering. In general, origin of resonances in two-body scattering can be classified into two categories: dynamically generated states and genuine elementary particles. We demonstrate that the genuine contribution in the loop function can be excluded by adopting a natural renormalization scheme. The origin of resonances can be studied by looking at the effective interaction in the natural renormalization scheme, which is deduced from the phenomenological amplitude fitted to experimental data. Applying this method to the baryon resonances, we find that the dominant component for the Lambda(1405) resonance is dynamical, while a genuine contribution plays a substantial role for the structure of the N(1535).

Chiral SU(3) dynamics and the quasibound K^-pp cluster

The prototype of a Kbar nuclear cluster, K^-pp, has been investigated using effective KbarN potentials based on chiral SU(3) dynamics. Variational calculation shows a bound state solution with shallow binding energy B(K^-pp)=20 \pm 3 MeV and broad mesonic decay width Γ(KbarNN -> πY N)=40 - 70 MeV. The KbarN(I=0) pair in the K^-pp system exhibits a similar structure as the Λ(1405). We have also estimated the dispersive correction, p-wave KbarN interaction, and two-nucleon absorption width.

Phenomenological study of two-meson couplings of Theta+

We evaluate two-meson couplings of Theta+, using experimental information of nucleon resonances decaying into pi pi N channels, in which the two pions are in scalar- and vector-type correlations. We examine two assignments of spin and parity of J^P=1/2^+ and 3/2^-, for which the experimental spectra of known resonances with exotic baryons are properly reproduced by an octet-antidecuplet representation mixing scheme. With the obtained coupling constants, total cross sections of the reactions pi- p -> K- Theta+ and K+ p -> pi+ Theta+ are calculated. Substantial interference of two terms may occur in the reaction processes for the J^P=1/2^+ case, whereas the interference effect is rather small for the 3/2^- case.
