Non-commutative Factor theorem for tensor products of lattices in product groups

We establish a non-commutative version of the Intermediate Factor Theorem for crossed products associated with product lattices. Given an irreducible lattice $Γ< G= G_1 \times \dots \times G_d$ in higher rank semisimple algebraic groups and a trace-preserving irreducible action $G \curvearrowright (\mathcal{N}, τ)$, we show that every intermediate von Neumann algebra between $\mathcal{N}\rtimesΓ$ and $(L^\infty(G/P,ν_P)\overline{\otimes}\mathcal{N})\rtimesΓ$ is again a crossed product of the form $(L^\infty(G/Q,ν_Q)\overline{\otimes}\mathcal{N})\rtimesΓ$.

Rigidity of Generalized Furstenberg Boundaries and Applications to Intermediate Crossed Products

We develop a relative boundary theory for actions of discrete groups on compact spaces and use it to derive rigidity results for reduced crossed products. For a discrete group $Γ$ acting on a compact space $X$ and a subgroup $H$, we construct a universal boundary over $X$ which is minimal as a $Γ$-system and strongly proximal with respect to $H$. When $H\le_cΓ$ is commensurated and the $H$-action on $X$ is minimal, we show that this universal boundary agrees, in a canonical $Γ$-equivariant way, with the generalized Furstenberg boundary of $(H,X)$, thereby unifying and extending earlier results on relative boundaries. As an application, we introduce the notion of an $X$-plump subgroup given a $Γ$-space $X$, a generalized version of plumpness tailored to crossed products. Under natural dynamical hypotheses, this leads to new examples of irreducible $C^*$-inclusions. Under additional assumptions, we also show that every intermediate $C^*$-algebra is a crossed product.

A generalized Powers averaging property for commutative crossed products

We prove a generalized version of Powers' averaging property that characterizes simplicity of reduced crossed products $C(X) \rtimes_λG$, where $G$ is a countable discrete group, and $X$ is a compact Hausdorff space which $G$ acts on minimally by homeomorphisms. As a consequence, we generalize results of Hartman and Kalantar on unique stationarity to the state space of $C(X) \rtimes_λG$ and to Kawabe's generalized space of amenable subgroups $\operatorname{Sub}_a(X,G)$. This further lets us generalize a result of the first named author and Kalantar on simplicity of intermediate C*-algebras. We prove that if $C(Y) \subseteq C(X)$ is an inclusion of unital commutative $G$-C*-algebras with $X$ minimal and $C(Y) \rtimes_λG$ simple, then any intermediate C*-algebra $A$ satisfying $C(Y) \rtimes_λG \subseteq A \subseteq C(X) \rtimes_λG$ is simple.
