Quantum speed limit of a non-decoherent open system

We study the minimum time related to the quantum speed limit that characterizes the evolution of an open quantum system with the help of a simple model in the short and long time limits. We compare in particular the situation corresponding to a unique state and several states in the environment space. For short time intervals the results show a sensible difference in the behaviour of the system for different strengths of the interaction between the system and its environment.

Coherent and decoherent time evolution of finite Markovian and non-Markovian open quantum systems

We examine the properties of open quantum systems with respect to their time evolution in different regimes, Markovian and non-Markovian. We analyze their behaviour with respect to their coherent or decoherent time evolution by means of different models and try to gain some insight into the possible correlations between Markovianity and coherence.

Motion of free spins and NMR imaging without a radio-frequency magnetic field

NMR imaging without any radio-frequency magnetic field is explained by a quantum treatment of independent spin~$\tfrac 12$. The total magnetization is determined by means of their individual wave function. The theoretical treatment, based on fundamental axioms of quantum mechanics and solving explicitly the Schrödinger equation with the kinetic energy part which gives the motion of free spins, is recalled. It explains the phase shift of the spin noise spectrum with its amplitude compared to the conventional NMR spectrum. Moreover it explains also the relatively good signal to noise ratio of NMR images obtained without a RF pulse. This derivation should be helpful for new magnetic resonance imaging sequences or for developing quantum computing by NMR.

Different types of open quantum systems evolving in a Markovian regime

The interaction between an open quantum system and its environment induces generally memory effects generated by the fact that the response of the system to the environment is not instantaneous. Different physical reasons can be at the origin of an absence of time retardation. We present here a study of systems for which instantaneouness is realized although they do not necessarily follow established Markovian criteria.

Excitation of time-dependent quantum systems:an application of time-energy uncertainty relations

The conditions under which time-energy uncertainty relations derived by Deffner and Lutz [10] for time-dependent quantum systems minimize the time necessary to excite such systems from their ground state to excited states are examined. The generalized Margolus-Levitin and Mandelstam-Tamm inequalities are worked out for specific fermionic and bosonic systems.

Propagation of local excitations through strongly correlated quantum chains

The propagation of an external transverse magnetic signal acting locally on a 1d chain of spins generates a disturbance which runs through the system. This quantum effect can be interpreted as a classical traveling wave which contains a superposition of a large set of frequencies depending on the size of the chain. Its local amplitude fixes the size of the z-component of the spins at any location in the chain. The average and maximum value of the group velocity are determined and compared with the transmission velocity fixed by the Lieb-Robinson upper bound inequality.

Study of the spectral properties of spin ladders in different representations via a renormalization procedure

We implement an algorithm which is aimed to reduce the dimensions of the Hilbert space of quantum many-body systems by means of a renormalization procedure. We test the role and importance of different representations on the reduction process by working out and analyzing the spectral properties of strongly interacting frustrated quantum spin systems.
