Quantum speed limit of a non-decoherent open system

We study the minimum time related to the quantum speed limit that characterizes the evolution of an open quantum system with the help of a simple model in the short and long time limits. We compare in particular the situation corresponding to a unique state and several states in the environment space. For short time intervals the results show a sensible difference in the behaviour of the system for different strengths of the interaction between the system and its environment.

Coherent and decoherent time evolution of finite Markovian and non-Markovian open quantum systems

We examine the properties of open quantum systems with respect to their time evolution in different regimes, Markovian and non-Markovian. We analyze their behaviour with respect to their coherent or decoherent time evolution by means of different models and try to gain some insight into the possible correlations between Markovianity and coherence.

Different types of open quantum systems evolving in a Markovian regime

The interaction between an open quantum system and its environment induces generally memory effects generated by the fact that the response of the system to the environment is not instantaneous. Different physical reasons can be at the origin of an absence of time retardation. We present here a study of systems for which instantaneouness is realized although they do not necessarily follow established Markovian criteria.

Excitation of time-dependent quantum systems:an application of time-energy uncertainty relations

The conditions under which time-energy uncertainty relations derived by Deffner and Lutz [10] for time-dependent quantum systems minimize the time necessary to excite such systems from their ground state to excited states are examined. The generalized Margolus-Levitin and Mandelstam-Tamm inequalities are worked out for specific fermionic and bosonic systems.

Propagation of local excitations through strongly correlated quantum chains

The propagation of an external transverse magnetic signal acting locally on a 1d chain of spins generates a disturbance which runs through the system. This quantum effect can be interpreted as a classical traveling wave which contains a superposition of a large set of frequencies depending on the size of the chain. Its local amplitude fixes the size of the z-component of the spins at any location in the chain. The average and maximum value of the group velocity are determined and compared with the transmission velocity fixed by the Lieb-Robinson upper bound inequality.

Study of the spectral properties of spin ladders in different representations via a renormalization procedure

We implement an algorithm which is aimed to reduce the dimensions of the Hilbert space of quantum many-body systems by means of a renormalization procedure. We test the role and importance of different representations on the reduction process by working out and analyzing the spectral properties of strongly interacting frustrated quantum spin systems.

Exact correlations in the one-dimensional coagulation-diffusion process by the empty-interval method

The long-time dynamics of reaction-diffusion processes in low dimensions is dominated by fluctuation effects. The one-dimensional coagulation-diffusion process describes the kinetics of particles which freely hop between the sites of a chain and where upon encounter of two particles, one of them disappears with probability one. The empty-interval method has, since a long time, been a convenient tool for the exact calculation of time-dependent particle densities in this model. We generalise the empty-interval method by considering the probability distributions of two simultaneous empty intervals at a given distance. While the equations of motion of these probabilities reduce for the coagulation-diffusion process to a simple diffusion equation in the continuum limit, consistency with the single-interval distribution introduces several non-trivial boundary conditions which are solved for the first time for arbitrary initial configurations. In this way, exact space-time-dependent correlation functions can be directly obtained and their dynamic scaling behaviour is analysed for large classes of initial conditions.

Ageing without detailed balance in the bosonic contact and pair-contact processes: exact results

Ageing in systems without detailed balance is studied in the exactly solvable bosonic contact process and the critical bosonic pair-contact process. The two-time correlation function and the two-time response function are explicitly found. In the ageing regime, the dynamical scaling of these is analyzed and exact results for the ageing exponents and the scaling functions are derived. For the critical bosonic pair-contact process the autocorrelation and autoresponse exponents agree but the ageing exponents $a$ and $b$ are shown to be distinct.

Magnetic properties of antiferromagnetic quantum Heisenberg spin systems with a strict single particle site occupation

We work out the magnetization and susceptibility of Heisenberg- and XXZ-model antiferromagnet spin-1/2 systems in $D$ dimensions under a rigorous constraint of single particle site occupancy. Quantum fluctuations are taken into account up to the first order in a loop expansion beyond the Néel state mean field solution. We discuss the results, their validity in the vicinity of the critical point and compare them with the results obtained by means of a spin wave approach.

Functional Callan-Symanzik Equation for the Coulomb Gas

A non-perturbative scheme, based on the functional generalization of the Callan-Symanzik equation is developed to treat the Coulomb interaction in an electron gas. The one-particle irreducible vertex functions are shown to satisfy an evolution equation whose initial condition is given by means of the classical action and the final point corresponds to the physical system. This equation is truncated by expanding it in momenta and excitation energies, leaving the electric charge as an arbitrary, not necesseraly small parameter. Exact coupled partial differential equations up to first order in the frequencies and excitation energies are derived. The numerical integration of these eqations is left to a later stage. Nevertheless, in order to demonstrate the relation with the perturbation expansion the one-loop Lindhard function and screening are reproduced in the independent mode approximation of the evolution equation.
