Federated Recommendation System via Differential Privacy

In this paper, we are interested in what we term the federated private bandits framework, that combines differential privacy with multi-agent bandit learning. We explore how differential privacy based Upper Confidence Bound (UCB) methods can be applied to multi-agent environments, and in particular to federated learning environments both in `master-worker' and `fully decentralized' settings. We provide a theoretical analysis on the privacy and regret performance of the proposed methods and explore the tradeoffs between these two.

Quantum-enhanced least-square support vector machine: simplified quantum algorithm and sparse solutions

Quantum algorithms can enhance machine learning in different aspects. Here, we study quantum-enhanced least-square support vector machine (LS-SVM). Firstly, a novel quantum algorithm that uses continuous variable to assist matrix inversion is introduced to simplify the algorithm for quantum LS-SVM, while retaining exponential speed-up. Secondly, we propose a hybrid quantum-classical version for sparse solutions of LS-SVM. By encoding a large dataset into a quantum state, a much smaller transformed dataset can be extracted using quantum matrix toolbox, which is further processed in classical SVM. We also incorporate kernel methods into the above quantum algorithms, which uses both exponential growth Hilbert space of qubits and infinite dimensionality of continuous variable for quantum feature maps. The quantum LS-SVM exploits quantum properties to explore important themes for SVM such as sparsity and kernel methods, and stresses its quantum advantages ranging from speed-up to the potential capacity to solve classically difficult machine learning tasks.

Long-distance synchronization of unidirectionally cascaded optomechanical systems

Synchronization is of great scientific interest due to the abundant applications in a wide range of systems. We propose a scheme to achieve the controllable long-distance synchronization of two dissimilar optomechanical systems, which are unidirectionally coupled through a fiber with light. Synchronization, unsynchronization, and the dependence of the synchronization on driving laser strength and intrinsic frequency mismatch are studied based on the numerical simulation. Taking the fiber attenuation into account, it's shown that two mechanical resonators can be synchronized over a distance of tens of kilometers. In addition, we also analyze the unidirectional synchronization of three optomechanical systems, demonstrating the scalability of our scheme.

A reduction from LWE problem to dihedral coset problem

Learning with Errors (LWE) problems are the foundations for numerous applications in lattice-based cryptography and are provably as hard as approximate lattice problems in the worst case. Here we present a reduction from LWE problem to dihedral coset problem(DCP). We present a quantum algorithm to generate the input of the two point problem which hides the solution of LWE. We then give a new reduction from two point problem to dihedral coset problem on D_{{({n^{13})}^{n\log n}}}. Our reduction implicate that any algorithm solves DCP in subexponential time would lead a quantum algorithm for LWE.
