Application of the independent component analysis to the iKAGRA data

We apply the independent component analysis (ICA) to the real data from a gravitational wave detector for the first time. Specifically we use the iKAGRA data taken in April 2016, and calculate the correlations between the gravitational wave strain channel and 35 physical environmental channels. Using a couple of seismic channels which are found to be strongly correlated with the strain, we perform ICA. Injecting a sinusoidal continuous signal in the strain channel, we find that ICA recovers correct parameters with enhanced signal-to-noise ratio, which demonstrates usefulness of this method. Among the two implementations of ICA used here, we find the correlation method yields the optimal result for the case environmental noises act on the strain channel linearly.

The status of KAGRA underground cryogenic gravitational wave telescope

KAGRA is a 3-km interferometric gravitational wave telescope located in the Kamioka mine in Japan. It is the first km-class gravitational wave telescope constructed underground to reduce seismic noise, and the first km-class telescope to use cryogenic cooling of test masses to reduce thermal noise. The construction of the infrastructure to house the interferometer in the tunnel, and the initial phase operation of the interferometer with a simple 3-km Michelson configuration have been completed. The first cryogenic operation is expected in 2018, and the observing runs with a full interferometer are expected in 2020s. The basic interferometer configuration and the current status of KAGRA are described.

The form factors of tau -> K pi(eta) nu and the predictions for CP violation beyond the standard model

We study the hadronic form factors of $τ$ lepton decays $τ\to K π(η) ν$. We compute one loop corrections to the form factors using the chiral Lagrangian including vector mesons. The counterterms which subtract the divergence of the one-loop amplitudes are determined by using background field method. In the vector form factor, $K^\ast$ resonance behavior is reproduced because the diagram with a vector meson propagator is included. We fit the data of the hadronic invariant mass spectrum measured by Belle by determining some of the counterterms of the Lagrangian. Besides the hadronic invariant mass spectrum, the forward-backward asymmetry is predicted. We also study the effect of CP violation of a two Higgs doublet model. In the model, CP violation of the neutral Higgs sector generates the mixing of CP even Higgs and CP odd Higgs. We show how the mixing leads to the direct CP violation of the $τ$ decays and predict the CP violation of the forward-backward asymmetry.

Physics at Super B Factory

This report presents the results of studies that investigate the physics reach at a Super $B$ factory, an asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider with a design luminosity of $8 \times 10^{35}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$, which is around 50 times as large as the peak luminosity achieved by the KEKB collider. The studies focus on flavor physics and CP violation measurements that could be carried out in the LHC era. The physics motivation, key observables, measurement methods and expected precisions are presented.

A Model Independent Analysis of the Rare B Decay B -> X_s l^+ l^-

The most general model-independent analysis of the rare $B$ decay, $\Bsll$, is presented. There are ten independent local four-Fermi interactions which may contribute to this process. The branching ratio, the forward-backward asymmetry, and the double differential rate are written as functions of the Wilson coefficients of the ten operators. We also study the correlation between the branching ratio and the forward-backward asymmetry by changing each coefficient. This procedure tells us which types of operator contribute to the process, and it will be very useful to pin down new physics systematically, once we have the experimental data with high statistics and the deviation from the Standard Model is found.

Quark Mass Hierarchy, FCNC and CP violation in a Seesaw model

The seesaw model of quark masses is studied systematically, focusing on its developments. A framework allowing the top quark mass to be of the order of the electroweak symmetry breaking scale, while the remaining light quarks have much smaller masses, due to the seesaw mechanism, is presented. The violation of the GIM mechanism is shown to be small and the tree level FCNC are suppressed naturally. In this model, there are many particles which could contribute to the FCNC in the one-loop level. Parameters of the model are constrained by using the experimental data on K^0-\bar{K}^0 mixing and ε_K. The rare K meson decays K_{L,S} -> π^0 ν\barν and K^+ -> π^+ ν\barν are also investigated in the model. In these processes the scalar operators (\bar{s}d)(\barν_τν_τ), which are derived from box diagrams in the model, play an important role due to an enhancement factor M_K/m_s in the matrix element <π|\bar{s}d|K>. It is emphasized that the K_L decay process through the scalar operator is not the CP violating mode, so B(K_L -> π^0 ν\barν) remains non-zero even in the CP conserved limit. The pion energy spectra for these processes are predicted.
