D-dimensional three-body bound-state problem with zero range interactions

We solved analytically the three-body mass-imbalanced problem embedded in D dimensions for zero-range resonantly interacting particles. We derived the negative energy eigenstates of the three-body Schrodinger equation by imposing the Bethe-Peierls boundary conditions in D-dimensions for zero-energy two-body bound states. The solution retrieves the Efimov-like discrete scaling factor dependence with dimension. The analytical form of the mass-imbalanced three-body bound state wave function can be used to probe the effective dimension of asymmetric cold atomic traps for Feshbach resonances tuned close to the Efimov limit.

Dark matter component in hadronic models with short-range correlations

A relativistic mean field hadronic model with a dark matter (DM) particle coupled to nucleons including short-range correlations (SRC) is applied to study neutron stars (NS). The lightest neutralino is chosen as the dark particle candidate, which interacts with nucleons by the exchange of Higgs bosons. A detailed thermodynamical analysis shows that the contribution of the DM fermions to the energy density of the matter composed by these particles and nucleons is completely dominated by the DM kinetic terms. The model reproduces satisfactorily the constraints on the mass-radius diagram obtained from the analysis of the combined data from the NICER mission, LIGO and Virgo collaborations, and mass measurements from radio observations. We show that the SRC balance the reduction of the neutron star mass due to the DM component, and because of that the model is able to present more massive NS. We also present a study of the effect, in the NS mass-radius profiles, of the uncertainties in some bulk parameters related to the hadronic sector. We find that it is possible to generate parametrizations, with DM content, compatible with the recent astrophysical constraints and with the uncertainty in the symmetry energy slope obtained from the results reported by the updated Lead Radius EXperiment (PREX-2).

Dark matter effects on tidal deformabilities and moment of inertia in a hadronic model with short-range correlations

In this work we study the outcomes related to dimensionless tidal deformability $(Λ)$ obtained through a relativistic mean-field (RMF) hadronic model including short-range correlations (SRC) and dark matter (DM) content [Phys. Rev. D 105, 023008 (2022)]. As a dark particle candidate, we use the lightest neutralino interacting with nucleons through the Higgs boson exchange. In particular, we test the model against the constraints regarding the observation of gravitational waves from the binary neutron star merger GW170817 event provided by LIGO and Virgo collaboration (LVC). We show that $Λ$ decreases as the dark particle Fermi momentum ($k_F^{DM}$) increases. This feature favors the RMF-SRC-DM model used here to satisfy the limits of $Λ_{1.4}=190^{+390}_{-120}$ ($Λ$ of a $1.4M_\odot$ neutron star), and $\tildeΛ=300^{+420}_{-230}$ given by the LVC. We also show that as $k_F^{DM}$ increases, $Λ_1$ and $Λ_2$, namely, tidal deformabilities of the binary system, are also moved to the direction of the GW170817 observational data. Finally, we verify that the inclusion of DM in the system does not destroy the \mbox{$I$-Love} relation (correlation between $Λ$ and dimensionless moment of inertia, $\bar{I}$). The observation data for $\bar{I}_\star\equiv\bar{I}(M_\star)=11.10^{+3.68}_{-2.28}$, with $M_\star=1.338M_\odot$, is attained by the RMF-SRC-DM model.

Heisenberg's uncertainty principle in the PTOLEMY project: a theory update

We discuss the consequences of the quantum uncertainty on the spectrum of the electron emitted by the $β$-processes of a tritium atom bound to a graphene sheet. We analyze quantitatively the issue recently raised in [Cheipesh et al., Phys. Rev. D 104, 116004 (2021)], and discuss the relevant time scales and the degrees of freedom that can contribute to the intrinsic spread in the electron energy. We perform careful calculations of the potential between tritium and graphene with different coverages and geometries. With this at hand, we propose possible avenues to mitigate the effect of the quantum uncertainty.

Nucleon Electromagnetic and Axial Form Factors in a Light-front Constituent Quark Model

In the present work we study the effect of the scalar spin coupling of constituent quarks on the nucleon electroweak properties by introducing a valence light-front wave function with two momentum scales. By comparing the results obtained with the one scale and two scale wave function models, we have found that the last one has shown a reasonable description of the static observables and $μ_pG_{Ep}/G_{Mp}$ ratio in which the position of the zero appears around 10~[GeV/c]$^2$ or for higher squared momentum transfers. We have also shown results for the axial-vector coupling $g_{A}$ and the nucleon axial-vector form factor. The best result for $g_A$ was obtained when the parameters of the nucleon wave function model were such that the experimental value of the neutron magnetic moment was described.

Pion inspired by QCD: Nakanishi and Light-Front Integral Representations

The pion structure in Minkowski space is explored using the Nakanishi integral representation. A general framework is developed for the pion Bethe-Salpeter amplitude based on the Kallen-Lehmann representation of the dressed quarks with an ansatz for the pseudo-scalar $π-q\bar q$ vertex fulfilling the axial Ward-Takahashi identity. The Nakanishi weight functions are derived for the scalar amplitudes associated with the decomposition of the pion Bethe-Salpeter amplitude in different operator bases in the Dirac spinor space in terms of the involved spectral densities. The approach is applied to an analytical model of the pion Bethe-Salpeter amplitude, which is combined with Landau gauge lattice QCD results for the quark running mass at space-like momentum. From the Nakanishi integral representation several pion observables were calculated, such as the decay constant, the spin decomposition of the valence probabilities, longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions from the valence component of the light-front wave function.

Pion model with the Nakanishi Integral Representations

In the present work, we describe a model for the pion based on an analytic expression for the Bethe-Salpeter (BSA) amplitude, combined with some ingredients from Lattice QCD calculations. The running quark mass function $M (p^2)$, used here, reproduces well the results of Lattice QCD calculations. The analytical form of the running quark mass function contains a single time-like pole, which implies in time-like poles of the dressed quark propagator. Such a form allows to build the weight functions, $G_i(γ,z)$, for the Nakanishi integral representation of each scalar function, $χ_{i}(k,p)$, appearing in the decomposition of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude in terms of Dirac operators, Such scalar amplitudes can also be used to obtain the pion valence light-front wave function.

The parton distribution function in a pion with Minkowskian dynamics

The parton distribution of the pion is obtained for the first time from the solution of a dynamical equation in Minkowski space. The adopted equation is the homogeneous Bethe-Salpeter one with a ladder kernel, described in terms of i) constituent quarks and gluons degrees of freedom, and ii) an extended quark-gluon vertex. The masses of quark and gluon as well as the interaction-vertex scale have been chosen in a range suggested by lattice QCD calculations, and calibrated to reproduce both pion mass and decay constant. Beside the full parton distribution, we have also calculated the contribution from the light-front valence wave function, corresponding to the lowest Fock component in the expansion of the pion state. After applying an evolution with an effective charge and a LO splitting function, a detailed and inspiring comparison with both the extracted experimental data ( with and without resummation effects) and other recent calculations obtained in different frameworks is presented. Interestingly, in a wide region of longitudinal-momentum fraction, the parton distribution function receives sizable contributions from the higher Fock-components of the pion state at the initial scale, while approaching the tail the light-front valence component dominates, as expected. Moreover, an exponent $\sim$ 3 is found suitable for describing the tail at the scale 5.2 GeV.

Two-heavy impurities immersed in squeezed light-boson systems

We investigate the spectrum and structure of two-heavy bosonic impurities immersed in a light-boson system in D dimensions by means of the Born-Oppenheimer approximation. The fractional dimension dependence are associated with squeezed traps. The binding energies follows an Efimov type geometrical scaling law when the heavy-light system has a s-wave resonant interaction and the effective dimension or trap deformation is within a given range. The discrete scaling parameter $s$ relates two consecutive many-body bound states depending on mass asymmetry, number of light-bosons and effective dimension D. Furthermore, the spectrum and wave-function for finite heavy-light binding energies are computed. To exemplify our results, we consider mixtures of two-heavy caesium atoms interacting with up to two-lithium ones, which are systems of current experimental interest.

CP asymmetry from hadronic charm rescattering in $B^\pm \to π^-π^+π^\pm$ decays at the high mass region

A model for the $B^\pm \to π^-π^+π^\pm$ decay amplitude is proposed to study the large CP violation observed at the high mass region of the Dalitz plane. A short distance $ b \to u $ amplitude with the weak phase $γ$ is considered together with the contribution of a hadronic charm loop and a s-wave $D\bar{D}\to ππ$ rescattering. In the model, the $χ_c^0$ appears as a narrow resonant state of the $D\bar D$ system below threshold. It is introduced in an unitary two channel S-matrix model of the coupled $D\bar D$ and $ππ$ channels, where the $χ_c^0$ complex pole in $D\bar D$ channel shows its signature in the off-diagonal matrix element and in the associated $D\bar{D}\to ππ$ transition amplitude. The strong phase of the resulting decay amplitude has a sharp sign change at the $D\bar D$ threshold, changing the sign of the CP asymmetry, as it is observed in the data. We conclude that the hadronic charm loop and rescattering mechanism are relevant to the broadening of the CP asymmetry around the $χ_c^0$ resonance in the $ππ$ channel. This novel mechanism provides a possible interpretation of the CP asymmetry defier experimental result presented by the LHCb collaboration for the $B^\pm \to π^-π^+π^\pm$ decay in the high mass region.

Observing the Minkowskian dynamics of the pion on the null-plane

A dynamical model is applied to the study of the pion valence light-front wave function, obtained from the actual solution of the Bethe-Salpeter equation in Minkowski space, resorting to the Nakanishi integral representation. The kernel is simplified to a ladder approximation containing constituent quarks, an effective massive gluon exchange, and the scale of the extended quark-gluon interaction vertex. These three input parameters carry the infrared scale ΛQCD and are fine-tuned to reproduce the pion weak decay constant, within a range suggested by lattice calculations. Besides fπ, we present and discuss other interesting quantities on the null-plane, like: (i) the valence probability, (ii) the dynamical functions depending upon the longitudinal or the transverse components of the light-front (LF) momentum, represented by LF-momentum distributions and distribution amplitudes, and (iii) the probability densities both in the LF-momentum space and the 3D space given by the Cartesian product of the covariant Ioffe-time and transverse coordinates, in order to perform an analysis of the dynamical features in a complementary way. The proposed analysis of the Minkowskian dynamics inside the pion, though carried out at the initial stage, qualifies the Nakanishi integral representation as an appealing effective tool, with still unexplored potentialities to be exploited for addressing correlations between dynamics and observable properties.

Three-boson bound states in Minkowski space with contact interactions

The structure of the three-boson bound state in Minkowski space is studied for a model with contact interaction. The Faddeev-Bethe-Salpeter equation is solved both in Minkowski and Euclidean spaces. The results are in fair agreement for comparable quantities, like the transverse amplitude obtained when the longitudinal constituent momenta of the light-front valence wave function are integrated out. The Minkowski space solution is obtained numerically by using a recently proposed method based on the direct integration over the singularities of the propagators and interaction kernel of the four-dimensional integral equation. The complex singular structure of the Faddeev components of the Bethe-Salpeter vertex function for space and time-like momenta in an example of a Borromean system is investigated in detail. Furthermore, the transverse amplitude is studied as a mean to access the double-parton transverse momentum distribution. Following that, we show that the two-body short-range correlation contained in the valence wave function is evidenced when the pair has a large relative momentum in a back-to-back configuration, where one of the Faddeev components of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude dominates over the others. In this situation a power-law behavior is derived and confirmed numerically.

Creating Oscillons and Oscillating Kinks in Two Scalar Field Theories

Oscillons are time-dependent, localized in space, extremely long-lived states in nonlinear scalar-field models, while kinks are topological solitons in one spatial dimension. In the present work, we show new classes of oscillons and oscillating kinks in a system of two nonlinearly coupled scalar fields in $1 + 1$ spatiotemporal dimensions. The solutions contain a control parameter, the variation of which produces oscillons and kinks with a flat-top shape. The model finds applications to condensed matter, cosmology, and high-energy physics.

Pion off-shell electromagnetic form factors: data extraction and model analysis

We investigate the pion electromagnetic half off-shell form factors, which parametrize the matrix element of the charged pion electromagnetic current with one leg off-mass-shell and the other leg on-mass-shell, using an exactly solvable manifestly covariant model of a $(3+1)$ dimensional fermion field theory. The model provides a 3D imaging of the two off-shell pion form factors $F_1$ and $F_2$ as a function of $(Q^2,t)$, which are related to each other satisfying the Ward-Takahashi identity. The normalization of the renormalized charge form factor $F_1$ is fixed by $F_1(Q^2=0, t=m^2_π)=1$ while the other form factor $F_2$ vanishes, i.e. $F_2(Q^2, t=m^2_π)=0$ for any value of $Q^2$ due to the time-reversal invariance of the strong interaction. We define the new form factor $g(Q^2,t)=F_2(Q^2,t)/(t-m^2_π)$ and find that $g(Q^2,t)$ can be measurable in the on-mass-shell limit. In particular, $g(Q^2=0, t=m^2_π)$ is related with the pion charge radius. We also compare our form factors with the data extracted from the pion electroproduction reaction for both the off-shell region ($t<0$) and the on-shell limit ($t \rightarrow m_π^2$).

$B^+\to K^-π^+π^+$: three-body final state interactions and $Kπ$ isospin states

Final state interactions are considered to formulate the $B$ meson decay amplitude for the $Kππ$ channel. The Faddeev decomposition of the Bethe-Salpeter equation is used in order to build a relativistic three-body model within the light-front framework. The S-wave scattering amplitude for the $Kπ$ system is considered in the $1/2$ and $3/2$ isospin channels with the set of inhomogeneous integral equations solved perturbatively. In comparison with previous results for the $D$ meson decay in the same channel, one has to consider the different partonic processes, which build the source amplitudes, and the larger absorption to other decay channels appears, that are important features to be addressed. As in the $D$ decay case, the convergence of the rescattering perturbative series is also achieved with two-loop contributions.

Advances in solving the two-fermion homogeneous Bethe-Salpeter equation in Minkowski space

Actual solutions of the Bethe-Salpeter equation for a two-fermion bound system are becoming available directly in Minkowski space, by virtue of a novel technique, based on the so-called Nakanishi integral representation of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude and improved by expressing the relevant momenta through light-front components, i.e. $k^\pm=k^0 \pm k^3$. We solve a crucial problem that widens the applicability of the method to real situations by providing an analytically exact treatment of the singularities plaguing the two-fermion problem in Minkowski space, irrespective of the complexity of the irreducible Bethe-Salpeter kernel. This paves the way for feasible numerical investigations of relativistic composite systems, with any spin degrees of freedom. We present a thorough comparison with existing numerical results, evaluated in both Minkowski and Euclidean space, fully corroborating our analytical treatment, as well as fresh light-front amplitudes illustrating the potentiality of non perturbative calculations performed directly in Minkowski space.

Bethe-Salpeter bound-state structure in Minkowski space

The quantitative investigation of the scalar Bethe-Salpeter equation in Minkowski space, within the ladder-approximation framework, is extended to include the excited states. This study has been carried out for an interacting system composed by two massive bosons exchanging a massive scalar, by adopting (i) the Nakanishi integral representation of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude, and (ii) the formally exact projection onto the null plane. Our analysis, on one hand, confirms the reliability of the method already applied to the ground state and, on the other one, extends the investigation from the valence distribution in momentum space to the corresponding quantity in the impact-parameter space, pointing out some relevant features, like (i) the equivalence between Minkowski and Euclidean transverse-momentum amplitudes, and (ii) the leading exponential fall-off of the valence wave function in the impact-parameter space.

Configurational entropy as a bounding of Gauss-Bonnet braneworld models

Configurational entropy has been revealed as a reliable method for constraining some parameters of a given model [Phys. Rev. D \textbf{92} (2015) 126005, Eur. Phys. J. C \textbf{76} (2016) 100]. In this letter we calculate the configurational entropy in Gauss-Bonnet braneworld models. Our results restrict the range of acceptability of the Gauss-Bonnet scalar values. In this way, the information theoretical measure in Gauss-Bonnet scenarios opens a new window to probe situations where the additional parameters, responsible for the Gauss-Bonnet sector, are arbitrary. We also show that such an approach is very important in applications that include p and Dp-branes and various superstring-motivated theories.

Hyperon star in a modified quark meson coupling model

We determine the equation of state (EOS) of nuclear matter with the inclusion of hyperons in a self-consistent manner by using a Modified Quark Meson Coupling Model (MQMC) where the confining interaction for quarks inside a baryon is represented by a phenomenological average potential in an equally mixed scalar-vector harmonic form. The hadron-hadron interaction in nuclear matter is then realized by introducing additional quark couplings to $σ$, $ω$, and $ρ$ mesons through mean-field approximations. The effect of a nonlinear $ω$-$ρ$ term on the equation of state is studied. The hyperon couplings are fixed from the optical potential values and the mass-radius curve is determined satisfying the maximum mass constraint of $2$~M$_{\odot}$ for neutron stars, as determined in recent measurements of the pulsar PSR J0348+0432. We also observe that there is no significant advantage of introducing the nonlinear $ω$-$ρ$ term in the context of obtaining the star mass constraint in the present set of parametrizations.

Neutron$-^{19}$C scattering: emergence of universal properties in a finite range potential

The low-energy properties of the elastic $s-$wave scattering for the $n-^{19}$C are studied near the critical condition for the occurrence of an excited Efimov state in $n-n-^{18}$C. It is established to which extent the universal scaling laws, strictly valid in the zero-range limit, survive when finite range potentials are considered. By fixing the two-neutrons separation energy in $^{20}$C with available experimental data, it is studied the scaling of the real ($δ_0^R$) and imaginary parts of the $s-$wave phase-shift with the variation of the $n-^{18}$C binding energy. We obtain some universal characteristics given by the pole-position of $k\cot(δ_0^R)$ and effective-range parameters. By increasing the $n-^{18}$C binding energy, it was verified that the excited state of $^{20}$C goes to a virtual state, resembling the neutron-deuteron behavior in the triton. It is confirmed that the analytical structure of the unitary cut is not affected by the range of the potential or mass asymmetry of the three-body system.

Scaling limit analysis of Borromean halos

The analysis of the core recoil momentum distribution of neutron-rich isotopes of light exotic nuclei is performed within a model of the halo nuclei described by a core and two neutrons dominated by the $s-$wave channel. We adopt the renormalized three-body model with a zero-range force, that accounts for the universal Efimov physics. This model is applicable to nuclei with large two-neutron halos compared to the core size, and a neutron-core scattering length larger than the interaction range. The halo wave function in momentum space is obtained by using as inputs the two-neutron separation energy and the energies of the singlet neutron-neutron and neutron-core virtual states. Within our model, we obtain the momentum probability densities for the Borromean exotic nuclei Lithium-11 ($^{11}$Li), Berylium-14 ($^{14}$Be) and Carbon-22 ($^{22}$C). A fair reproduction of the experimental data was obtained in the case of the core recoil momentum distribution of $^{11}$Li and $^{14}$Be, without free parameters. By extending the model to $^{22}$C, the combined analysis of the core momentum distribution and matter radius suggest (i) a $^{21}$C virtual state well below 1 MeV; (ii) an overestimation of the extracted matter $^{22}$C radius; and (iii) a two-neutron separation energy between 100 and 400 keV.

Suppressed $B \to PV $ CP asymmetry: CPT constraint

Charge Parity asymmetry in charmless B meson decays is a key issue to be understood. Many theoretical calculations have been performed using short distance factorization approaches which, in general, do not take into account the CPT invariance constraint. For each channel with CP violation there is an equal amount of CP asymmetry in another channel or other channels, with an opposite sign. This happens if these channels are coupled through final state interactions (FSI). In the specific process $B\to PV$, involving one pseudo-scalar and one vector particle in the final state, we argue that the CP asymmetry, inherent from a short distance mechanism, could be suppressed due to the CPT constraint. In this case, we propose a sensitive and practical experimental method to identify even a small CP asymmetry, which provides the values for $A_{CP}$ without the need for an amplitude analysis. This method, if applied directly to data, will enable to extract the CP asymmetry information in a model independent way and check to which extend the suggested suppression due to the CPT constraint is verified.

The pion electromagnetic structure with self-energy

We study the electromagnetic structure of the pion in terms of the quantum cromodynamic~(QCD) model on the Breit-frame. We calculated the observables, such as the electromagnetic form factor. The priori to have a calculation covariant need to get the valence term of the eletromagnetic form factor. We use the usual formalism in quantum field theory (QFT) and light-front quantum field theory (LFQFT) in order to test the properties of form factor in nonperturbative QCD. In this particular case, the form factor can be obtained using the pion Light-Front (LF) wave function including self-energy from Lattice-QCD. Specifically, these calculations was performed in LF formalism. We consider a quark-antiquark vertex model having a quark self-energy. Also we can use other models to compare the pion electromagnetic form factor with different wave function and to observe the degree of agreement between them.

Three-body bound states of two bosonic impurities immersed in a Fermi sea in 2D

We consider two identical impurities immersed in a Fermi sea for a broad range of masses and for both interacting and non-interacting impurities. The interaction between the particles is described through attractive zero-range potentials and the problem is solved in momentum space. The two impurities can attach to a fermion from the sea and form three-body bound states. The energy of these states increase as function of the Fermi momentum $k_F$, leading to three-body bound states below the Fermi energy. The fate of the states depends highly on two- and three-body thresholds and we find evidence of medium-induced Borromean-like states in 2D. The corrections due to particle-hole fluctuations in the Fermi sea are considered in the three-body calculations and we show that in spite of the fact that they strongly affect both the two- and three-body systems, the correction to the point at which the three-body states cease to exist is small.

CP violation: Dalitz interference, CPT and FSI

Resonances and final state interactions (FSI) play a role in the formation of CP violation (CPV) constrained by CPT invariance. We provide a general formulation of CPV including resonances and FSI starting from the CPT constraint. Our discussion is elaborated within a simple $B$ decay model with the $ρ$ and $f_0(980)$ resonances plus a non resonant background including the $ππ\to KK$ coupled amplitude. We consider few illustrative examples to show the interference patterns appearing in the CP asymmetry, namely, that from the $ρ$ resonance plus a non-resonant amplitude, and that from the interference of the $ρ$ and $f_0(980)$ resonances. We perform the fit of the CP asymmetry for the charmless three-body $B^\pm$ decay channel $B^{\pm}\to π^{\pm} π^+π^-$ and obtain as outcome the $B^{\pm}\to π^{\pm} K^+K^-$ for $ππ$ channel asymmetry in the mass region below $1.6$ GeV in fair agreement with the new data LHCb data. Analogously, we also describe the CP asymmetry of the $B^\pm\to K^\pmπ^+π^-$ decay, with that from the $B^\pm\to K^\pm K^+K^-$ channel obtained as output. As in the previous case, we also found agreement with LHCb experimental data.

General spin and pseudospin symmetries of the Dirac equation

In the 70's Smith and Tassie, and Bell and Ruegg independently found SU(2) symmetries of the Dirac equation with scalar and vector potentials. These symmetries, known as pseudospin and spin symmetries, have been extensively researched and applied to several physical systems. Twenty years after, in 1997, the pseudospin symmetry has been revealed by Ginocchio as a relativistic symmetry of the atomic nuclei when it is described by relativistic mean field hadronic models. The main feature of these symmetries is the suppression of the spin-orbit coupling either in the upper or lower components of the Dirac spinor, thereby turning the respective second-order equations into Schrödinger-like equations, i.e, without a matrix structure. In this paper we propose a generalization of these SU(2) symmetries for potentials in the Dirac equation with several Lorentz structures, which also allow for the suppression of the matrix structure of second-order equation equation of either the upper or lower components of the Dirac spinor. We derive the general properties of those potentials and list some possible candidates, which include the usual spin-pseudospin potentials, and also 2- and 1-dimensional potentials. An application for a particular physical system in two dimensions, electrons in graphene, is suggested.

Light-Front Spin-1 Model: Parameters Dependence

We study the structure of the $ρ$-meson within a light-front model with constituent quark degrees of freedom. We calculate electroweak static observables: magnetic and quadrupole moments, decay constant and charge radius. The prescription used to compute the electroweak quantities is free of zero modes, which makes the calculation implicitly covariant. We compare the results of our model with other ones found in the literature. Our model parameters give a decay constant close to the experimental one.

Nuclear symmetry energy in a modified quark meson coupling model

We study nuclear symmetry energy and the thermodynamic instabilities of asymmetric nuclear matter in a self-consistent manner by using a modified quark-meson coupling model where the confining interaction for quarks inside a nucleon is represented by a phenomenologically averaged potential in an equally mixed scalar-vector harmonic form. The nucleon-nucleon interaction in nuclear matter is then realized by introducing additional quark couplings to $σ$, $ω$, and $ρ$ mesons through mean-field approximations. We find an analytic expression for the symmetry energy ${\cal E}_{sym}$ as a function of its slope $L$. Our result establishes a linear correlation between $L$ and ${\cal E}_{sym}$. We also analyze the constraint on neutron star radii in $(pn)$ matter with $β$ equilibrium.

Quantum Dynamics in Noisy Backgrounds: from sampling to dissipation and fluctuations

We investigate the dynamics of a quantum system coupled linearly to Gaussian white noise using functional methods. By performing the integration over the noisy field in the evolution operator, we get an equivalent non-Hermitian Hamiltonian, which evolves the quantum state with a dissipative dynamics. We also show that if the integration over the noisy field is done for the time evolution of the density matrix, a gain contribution from the fluctuations, can be accessed in addition to the loss one from the non-hermitian Hamiltonian dynamics. We illustrate our study by computing analytically the effective non-Hermitian Hamiltonian, which we found to be the complex frequency harmonic oscillator, with a known evolution operator. It leads to space and time localisation, a common feature of noisy quantum systems in general applications.

Quantum Field Theory Approach to the Optical Conductivity of Strained and Deformed Graphene

The computation of the optical conductivity of strained and deformed graphene is discussed within the framework of quantum field theory in curved spaces. The analytical solutions of the Dirac equation in an arbitrary static background geometry for one dimensional periodic deformations are computed, together with the corresponding Dirac propagator. Analytical expressions are given for the optical conductivity of strained and deformed graphene associated with both intra and interbrand transitions. The special case of small deformations is discussed and the result compared to the prediction of the tight-binding model.

Solving the inhomogeneous Bethe-Salpeter Equation in Minkowski space: the zero-energy limit

For the first time, the inhomogeneous Bethe-Salpeter Equation for an interacting system, composed by two massive scalars exchanging a massive scalar, is numerically investigated in ladder approximation, directly in Minkowski space, by using an approach based on the Nakanishi integral representation. In this paper, the limiting case of zero-energy states is considered, extending the approach successfully applied to bound states. The numerical values of scattering lengths, are calculated for several values of the Yukawa coupling constant, by using two different integral equations that stem within the Nakanishi framework. Those low-energy observables are compared with (i) the analogous quantities recently obtained in literature, within a totally different framework and (ii) the non relativistic evaluations, for illustrating the relevance of a non perturbative, genuine field theoretical treatment in Minkowski space, even in the low-energy regime. Moreover, dynamical functions, like the Nakanishi weight functions and the distorted part of the zero-energy Light-front wave functions are also presented. Interestingly, a highly non trivial issue related to the abrupt change in the width of the support of the Nakanishi weight function, when the zero-energy limit is approached, is elucidated, ensuring a sound basis to the forthcoming evaluation of phase-shifts.

Spin-1 Particles with Light-Front Approach

For the vector sector, i.e, mesons with spin-1, the electromagnetic form factors and anothers observables are calculated with the light-front approach. However, the light-front quantum field theory have some problems, for example, the rotational symmetry breaking. We solve that problem added the zero modes contribuition to the matrix elements of the electromagnetic current, besides the valence contribuition. We found that among the four independent matrix elements of the plus component in the light-front helicity basis only the $0\to 0$ one carries zero mode contributions.

Two Dimensional Honeycomb Materials: random fields, dissipation and fluctuations

In this paper, we propose a method to describe the many-body problem of electrons in honeycomb materials via the introduction of random fields which are coupled to the electrons and have a Gaussian distribution. From a one-body approach to the problem, after integrating exactly the contribution of the random fields, one builds a non-hermitian and dissipative effective Hamiltonian with two-body interactions. Our approach introduces besides the usual average over the electron field a second average over the random fields. The interplay of two averages enables the definition of various types of Green's functions which allow the investigation of fluctuation-dissipation characteristics of the interactions that are a manifestation of the many-body problem. In the current work we study only the dissipative term, through the perturbative analysis of the dynamics associated the effective Hamiltonian generated by two different kinds of couplings. For the cases analysed, the eigenstates of the effective Hamiltonian are complex and, therefore, some of the states have a finite life time. Moreover, we also investigate, in the mean field approximation, the most general parity conserving coupling to the random fields and compute the width of charge carriers $Γ$ as a function of the Fermi energy $E_F$. The theoretical prediction for $Γ(E_F)$ is compared to the available experimental data for graphene. The good agreement between $Γ_{theo}$ and $Γ_{exp}$ suggests that description of the many-body problem associated to the electrons in honeycomb materials can indeed be done via the introduction of random fields.

Weakly bound states of two- and three-boson systems in the crossover from two to three dimension

The spectrum and properties of quantum bound states is strongly dependent on the dimensionality of space. How this comes about and how one may theoretically and experimentally study the interpolation between different dimensions is a topic of great interest in different fields of physics. In this paper we study weakly bound states of non-relativistic two and three boson systems when passing continuously from a three (3D) to a two-dimensional (2D) regime within a 'squeezed dimension' model. We use periodic boundary conditions to derive a surprisingly simple form of the three-boson Schr{ö}dinger equation in momentum space that we solve numerically. Our results show a distinct dimensional crossover as three-boson states will either disappear into the continuum or merge with a 2D counterpart, and also a series of sharp transitions in the ratios of three-body and two-body energies from being purely 2D to purely 3D.

Contact parameters in two dimensions for general three-body systems

We study the two dimensional three-body problem in the general case of three distinguishable particles interacting through zero-range potentials. The Faddeev decomposition is used to write the momentum-space wave function. We show that the large-momentum asymptotic spectator function has the same functional form as derived previously for three identical particles. We derive analytic relations between the three different Faddeev components for three distinguishable particles. We investigate the one-body momentum distributions both analytically and numerically and analyze the tail of the distributions to obtain two- and three-body contact parameters. We specialize from the general cases to examples of two identical, interacting or non-interacting, particles. We find that the two-body contact parameter is not a universal constant in the general case and show that the universality is recovered when a subsystem is composed of two identical non-interacting particles. We also show that the three-body contact parameter is negligible in the case of one non-interacting subsystem compared to the situation where all subsystem are bound. As example, we present results for mixtures of Lithium with two Cesium or two Potassium atoms, which are systems of current experimental interest.

CP violation and CPT invariance in B+- decays with final state interactions

We show that, besides the usual short distance contribution for CP violation, final state interactions together with CPT invariance can play an important role in the recent observation of CP violation in three-body charmless $B^\pm$ decays. A significant part of the observed CP asymmetry distribution in the Dalitz plot is located in a region where hadronic channels are strongly coupled. We illustrate our discussion comparing the recent observation of CP violation in the $B^\pm\to K^\pm K^+ K^-$ and $B^\pm\to K^\pm π^+ π^-$ phase space, with a calculation based on $ππ\to KK$ scattering.

Electromagnetic spin-1 form-factor free of zero-modes

The electromagnetic current~$J^+$ for spin-1, is used here to extract the electromagnetic form-factors of a light-front constituent quark model. The charge ($G_0$), magnetic ($G_1$) and quadrupole $G_2$ form factors are calculated using different prescriptions known in the literature, for the combinations of the four independent matrix elements of the current between the polarisations states in the Drell-Yan frame. However, the results for some prescriptions relying only on the valence contribution breaks the rotational symmetry as they violate the angular condition. In the present work, we use some relations between the matrix elements of the electromagnetic current in order to eliminate the breaking of the rotational symmetry, by computing the zero-mode contributions to matrix elements resorting only to the valence ones.

Final state interaction in $D^+\to K^-π^+π^+$ with $Kπ$ I=1/2 and 3/2 channels

The final state interaction contribution to $D^+$ decays is computed for the $K^-π^+π^+$ channel within a light-front relativistic three-body model for the final state interaction. The rescattering process between the kaon and two pions in the decay channel is considered. The off-shell decay amplitude is a solution of a four-dimensional Bethe-Salpeter equation, which is decomposed in a Faddeev form. The projection onto the light-front of the coupled set of integral equations is performed via a quasi-potential approach. The S-wave $Kπ$ interaction is introduced in the resonant isospin $1/2$ and the non-resonant isospin $3/2$ channels. The numerical solution of the light-front tridimensional inhomogeneous integral equations for the Faddeev components of the decay amplitude is performed perturbatively. The loop-expansion converges fast, and the three-loop contribution can be neglected in respect to the two-loop results for the practical application. The dependence on the model parameters in respect to the input amplitude at the partonic level is exploited and the phase found in the experimental analysis, is fitted with an appropriate choice of the real weights of the isospin components of the partonic amplitude. The data suggests a small mixture of total isospin $5/2$ to the dominant $3/2$ one. The modulus of the unsymmetrized decay amplitude, which presents a deep valley and a following increase for $Kπ$ masses above $1.5$ GeV, is fairly reproduced. This suggests the assignment of the quantum numbers $0^+$ to the isospin 1/2 $K^*(1630)$ resonance.

Heavy meson decay in three-mesons and FSI

The final state interaction (FSI) contribution to charged $D$ decay into $Kππ$ is computed within a light-front framework, considering $S$-wave $Kπ$ interactions in $1/2$ and $3/2$ isospin states. The convergence of the rescattering series is checked computing terms up to the third perturbative order. The role of the resonances above $K^*_0(1430)$, and the contribution of the $Kπ$ $3/2$ isospin channel to charged three-body $D$ decays, are studied against the available phase-shift analysis.

Inverse magnetic catalysis in the (2+1)-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio and Polyakov--Nambu--Jona-Lasinio models

The QCD phase diagram at zero chemical potential and finite temperature subject to an external magnetic field is studied within the three flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model and the NJL model with the Polyakov loop (PNJL). A scalar coupling parameter dependent on the magnetic field intensity is considered. The scalar coupling has been fitted so that the lattice QCD pseudocritical chiral transition temperatures are reproduced and in the limit of large magnetic field decreases with the inverse of the magnetic field intensity. This dependence of the coupling allows to reproduce the lattice QCD results with respect to the quark condensates and Polyakov loop: due to the magnetic field the quark condensates are enhanced at low and high temperatures and suppressed for temperatures close to the transition temperatures and the Polyakov loop increases with the magnetic field.

Mass-imbalanced Three-body Systems in 2D: bound states and the analytical approach to the adiabatic potential

Three-body systems in two dimensions with zero-range interactions are considered for general masses and interaction strengths. The problem is formulated in momentum space and the numerical solution of the Schrödinger equation is used to study universal properties of such systems with respect to the bound-state energies. The number of universal bound states is represented in a form of boundaries in a mass-mass diagram. The number of bound states is strongly mass dependent and increases as one particle becomes much lighter than the other ones. This behavior is understood through an accurate analytical approximation to the adiabatic potential for one light particle and two heavy ones.

Optical conductivity of curved graphene

We compute the optical conductivity for an out-of-plane deformation in graphene using an approach based on solutions of the Dirac equation in curved space. Different examples of periodic deformations along one direction translates into an enhancement of the optical conductivity peaks in the region of the far and mid infrared frequencies for periodicities $\sim100\,$nm. The width and position of the peaks can be changed by dialling the parameters of the deformation profiles. The enhancement of the optical conductivity is due to intraband transitions and the translational invariance breaking in the geometrically deformed background. Furthemore, we derive an analytical solution of the Dirac equation in a curved space for a general deformation along one spatial direction. For this class of geometries, it is shown that curvature induces an extra phase in the electron wave function, which can also be explored to produce interference devices of the Aharonov-Bohm type.

Pion structure in the nuclear medium

Using the light-front pion wave function based on a Bethe-Salpeter amplitude model, we study the properties of the pion in symmetric nuclear matter. The pion model we adopt is well constrained by previous studies to explain the pion properties in vacuum. In order to consistently incorporate the constituent up and down quarks of the pion immersed in symmetric nuclear matter, we use the quark-meson coupling model, which has been widely applied to various hadronic and nuclear phenomena in a nuclear medium with success. We predict the in-medium modifications of the pion lectromagnetic form factor, charge radius and weak decay constant in symmetric nuclear matter.

Universality of three-body systems in 2D: parametrization of the bound states energies

Universal properties of mass-imbalanced three-body systems in 2D are studied using zero-range interactions in momentum space. The dependence of the three-particle binding energy on the parameters (masses and two-body energies) is highly non-trivial even in the simplest case of two identical particles and a distinct one. This dependence is parametrized for ground and excited states in terms of {\itshape supercircles} functions in the most general case of three distinguishable particles.

A combined study of the pion's static properties and form factors

We study consistently the pion's static observables and the elastic and γ*γ-> π^0 transition form factors within a light-front model. Consistency requires that all calculations are performed within a given model with the same and single adjusted length or mass-scale parameter of the associated pion bound-state wave function. Our results agree well with all extent data including recent Belle data on the γ*γ-> π^0 form factor at large q^2, yet the BaBar data on this transition form factor resists a sensible comparison. We relax the initial constraint on the bound-state wave function and show the BaBar data can partially be accommodated. This, however, comes at the cost of a hard elastic form factor not in agreement with experiment. Moreover, the pion charge radius is about 40% smaller than its experimentally determined value. It is argued that a decreasing charge radius produces an ever harder form factor with a bound-state amplitude difficultly reconcilable with soft QCD. We also discuss why vector dominance type models for the photon-quark vertex, based on analyticity and crossing symmetry, are unlikely to reproduce the litigious transition form factor data.

D+ -> K- pi+ pi+ : heavy meson decays and final state interactions

We show that final state interactions are important in shaping Dalitz plots for the decay $D^+ \rar K^- \p^+ \p^+$. The theoretical treatment of this reaction requires a blend of several weak and hadronic processes and hence it is necessarily involved. In this talk we present results from a calculation which is still in progress, but has already unveiled the role of important dynamical mechanisms. We do not consider explicit quark degrees of freedom and our study is performed within an effective hadronic framework. In spite of the relatively wide window of energies available in the Dalitz plot for the $D^+$ decay, we depart from $SU(3)\times SU(3)$ chiral perturbation theory and extend its range by means of unitarization. Our present results, which concentrate on the vector weak vertex, describe qualitative features of the modulus of the decay amplitude and agrees well with its phase in the elastic region.

Dimensional Effects on the Momentum distribution of Bosonic Trimer States

The momentum distribution is a powerful probe of strongly-interacting systems that are expected to display universal behavior. This is contained in the contact parameters which relate few- and many-body properties. Here we consider a Bose gas in two dimensions and explicitly show that the two-body contact parameter is universal and then demonstrate that the momentum distribution at next-to-leading order has a logarithmic dependence on momentum which is vastly different from the three-dimensional case. Based on this, we propose a scheme for measuring the effective dimensionality of a quantum many-body system by exploiting the functional form of the momentum distribution.

Effective range from tetramer dissociation data for cesium atoms

The shifts in the four-body recombination peaks, due to an effective range correction to the zero-range model close to the unitary limit, are obtained and used to extract the corresponding effective range of a given atomic system. The approach is applied to an ultracold gas of cesium atoms close to broad Feshbach resonances, where deviations of experimental values from universal model predictions are associated to effective range corrections. The effective range correction is extracted, with a weighted average given by 3.9$\pm 0.8 R_{vdW}$, where $R_{vdW}$ is the van der Waals length scale; which is consistent with the van der Waals potential tail for the $Cs_2$ system. The method can be generally applied to other cold atom experimental setups to determine the contribution of the effective range to the tetramer dissociation position.

Influence of pions on the hadron-quark phase transition

In this work we present the features of the hadron-quark phase transition diagrams in which the pions are included in the system. To construct such diagrams we use two different models in the description of the hadronic and quark sectors. At the quark level, we consider two distinct parametrizations of the Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) models. In the hadronic side, we use a well known relativistic mean-field (RMF) nonlinear Walecka model. We show that the effect of the pions on the hadron-quark phase diagrams is to move the critical end point (CEP) of the transitions lines. Such an effect also depends on the value of the critical temperature (T_0) in the pure gauge sector used to parametrize the PNJL models. Here we treat the phase transitions using two values for T_0, namely, T_0 = 270 MeV and T_0 = 190 MeV. The last value is used to reproduce lattice QCD data for the transition temperature at zero chemical potential.

Light-Front Quantum Chromodynamics: A framework for the analysis of hadron physics

An outstanding goal of physics is to find solutions that describe hadrons in the theory of strong interactions, Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). For this goal, the light-front Hamiltonian formulation of QCD (LFQCD) is a complementary approach to the well-established lattice gauge method. LFQCD offers access to the hadrons' nonperturbative quark and gluon amplitudes, which are directly testable in experiments at existing and future facilities. We present an overview of the promises and challenges of LFQCD in the context of unsolved issues in QCD that require broadened and accelerated investigation. We identify specific goals of this approach and address its quantifiable uncertainties.

Mass-imbalanced Three-Body Systems in Two Dimensions

We consider three-body systems in two dimensions with zero-range interactions for general masses and interaction strengths. The momentum-space Schrödinger equation is solved numerically and in the Born-Oppenheimer (BO) approximation. The BO expression is derived using separable potentials and yields a concise adiabatic potential between the two heavy particles. The BO potential is Coulomb-like and exponentially decreasing at small and large distances, respectively. While we find similar qualitative features to previous studies, we find important quantitative differences. Our results demonstrate that mass-imbalanced systems that are accessible in the field of ultracold atomic gases can have a rich three-body bound state spectrum in two dimensional geometries. Small light-heavy mass ratios increase the number of bound states. For 87Rb-87Rb-6Li and 133Cs-133Cs-6Li we find respectively 3 and 4 bound states.

Nuclear equation of state in a relativistic independent quark model with chiral symmetry and variation with quark masses

We have calculated the properties of nuclear matter in a self-consistent manner with quark-meson coupling mechanism incorporating structure of nucleons in vacuum through a relativistic potential model; where the dominant confining interaction for the free independent quarks inside a nucleon, is represented by a phenomenologically average potential in equally mixed scalar-vector harmonic form. Corrections due to spurious centre of mass motion as well as those due to other residual interactions such as the one gluon exchange at short distances and quark-pion coupling arising out of chiral symmetry restoration; have been considered in a perturbation manner to obtain the nucleon mass in vacuum. The nucleon-nucleon interaction in nuclear matter is then realized by introducing additional quark couplings to sigma and omega mesons through mean field approximations. The relevant parameters of the interaction are obtained self consistently while realizing the saturation properties such as the binding energy, pressure and compressibility of the nuclear matter. We also discuss some implications of chiral symmetry in nuclear matter along with the nucleon and nuclear sigma term and the sensitivity of nuclear matter binding energy with variations in the light quark mass.

On the Quark-Gluon Vertex and Quark-Ghost Kernel: combining Lattice Simulations with Dyson-Schwinger equations

We investigate the dressed quark-gluon vertex combining two established non-perturbative approaches to QCD: the Dyson-Schwinger equation (DSE) for the quark propagator and lattice-regularized simulations for the quark, gluon and ghost propagators. The vertex is modeled using a generalized Ball-Chiu ansatz parameterized by a single form factor $\tilde X_0$ which effectively represents the quark-ghost scattering kernel. The solution space of the DSE inversion for $\tilde X_0$ is highly degenerate, which can be dealt with by a numerical regularization scheme. We consider two possibilities: (i) linear regularization and (ii) the Maximum Entropy Method. These two numerical approaches yield compatible $\tilde X_0$ functions for the range of momenta where lattice data is available and feature a strong enhancement of the generalized Ball-Chiu vertex for momenta below 1 GeV. Our ansatz for the quark-gluon vertex is then used to solve the quark DSE which yields a mass function in good agreement with lattice simulations and thus provides adequate dynamical chiral symmetry breaking.

Optical Dichroism by Nonlinear Excitations in Graphene Nanoribbons

The honeycomb carbon structure of graphene and nanotubes has a dynamics which can give rise to a spectrum. This can be excited via the interaction with an external electromagnetic field. In this work, non-linear waves on graphene and nanotubes associated with the carbon structure are investigated using a gauge model. Typical energies are estimated and there scaling with the nanoribbon width investigated. Furthermore, the soliton-photon interaction depends on the incident photon polarization. In particular, we find that the nanoribbon is transparent when the polarization is along the largest length. Relying on the scaling with the width, we suggest a way to experimentally identify the soliton waves in nanoribbons.

Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio phase diagrams and quarkyonic phase from order parameters

We show that the magnitude of the order parameters in Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model, given by the quark condensate and the Polyakov loop, can be used as a criterium to clearly identify, without ambiguities, phases and boundaries of the strongly interacting matter, namely, the broken/restored chiral symmetry, and confinement/deconfinement regions. This structure is represented by the projection of the order parameters in the temperature-chemical potential plane, which allows a clear identification of pattern changes in the phase diagram. Such a criterium also enables the emergence of a quarkyonic phase even in the two-flavor system. We still show that this new phase diminishes due to the influence of an additional vector-type interaction in the PNJL phase diagrams, and is quite sensitive to the effect of the change of the $T_0$ parameter in the Polyakov potential. Finally, we show that the phases and boundaries constructed by our method indicate that the order parameters should be more strongly correlated, as in the case of entanglement PNJL (EPNJL) model. This result suggests a novel way to pursue further investigation of new interactions between the order parameters in order to improve the PNJL model.

Single-Particle Momentum Distributions of Efimov States in Mixed-Species Systems

We solve the three-body bound state problem in three dimensions for mass imbalanced systems of two identical bosons and a third particle in the universal limit where the interactions are assumed to be of zero-range. The system displays the Efimov effect and we use the momentum-space wave equation to derive formulas for the scaling factor of the Efimov spectrum for any mass ratio assuming either that two or three of the two-body subsystems have a bound state at zero energy. We consider the single-particle momentum distribution analytically and numerically and analyse the tail of the momentum distribution to obtain the three-body contact parameter. Our finding demonstrate that the functional form of the three-body contact term depends on the mass ratio and we obtain an analytic expression for this behavior. To exemplify our results, we consider mixtures of Lithium with either two Caesium or Rubium atoms which are systems of current experimental interest.

The photon-pion transition form factor: incompatible data or incompatible models?

The elastic and $γ\to π$ transition form factors of the pion along with its usual static observables are calculated within a light-front field approach to the constituent quark model. The focus of this exercise in a simple model is on a unified description of all observables with one singly parametrized light-front wave function to detect possible discrepancies in experimental data, in particular the contentious large momentum-squared data on the transition factor as reported by BaBar and Belle. We also discuss the relation of a small to vanishing pion charge radius with an almost constant pion distribution amplitude and compare our results with those obtained in a holographic light-front model.

A supercircle description of universal three-body states in two dimensions

We consider bound states of asymmetric three-body systems confined to two dimensions. In the universal regime, two energy ratios and two mass ratios provide complete knowledge of the three-body energy measured in units of one two-body energy. The lowest number of stable bound states is produced when one mass is larger than two similar masses. We focus on selected asymmetric systems of interest in cold atom physics. The scaled three-body energy and the two scaled two-body energies are related through an equation for a supercircle whose radius increases almost linearly with three-body energy. The exponents exhibit an increasing behavior with three-body energy. The mass dependence is highly non-trivial. We give a simple relation that predicts the universal three-body energy.

Binding and structure of tetramers in the scaling limit

The momentum-space structure of the Faddeev-Yakubovsky (FY)components of weakly-bound tetramers is investigated at the unitary limit using a renormalized zero-range two-body interaction. The results, obtained by considering a given trimer level with binding energy $B_3$, provide further support to a universal scaling function relating the binding energies of two successive tetramer states. The correlated scaling between the tetramer energies comes from the sensitivity of the four-boson system to a short-range four-body scale. Each excited $N-$th tetramer energy $B_4^{(N)}$ moves as the short-range four-body scale changes, while the trimer properties are kept fixed, with the next excited tetramer $B_4^{(N+1)}$ emerging from the atom-trimer threshold for a universal ratio $B_4^{(N)}/B_3 = B_4^ {(N)}/B_4^{(N+1)} \simeq 4.6$, which does not depend on $N$. We show that both channels of the FY decomposition [atom-trimer ($K-$type) and dimer-dimer ($H-$type)] present high momentum tails, which reflect the short-range four-body scale. We also found that the $H-$channel is favored over $K-$channel at low momentum when the four-body momentum scale largely overcomes the three-body one.

Charge confinement and Klein tunneling from doping graphene

In the present work, we investigate how structural defects in graphene can change its transport properties. In particular, we show that breaking of the sublattice symmetry in a graphene monolayer overcomes the Klein effect, leading to confined states of massless Dirac fermions. Experimentally, this corresponds to chemical bonding of foreign atoms to carbon atoms, which attach themselves to preferential positions on one of the two sublattices. In addition, we consider the scattering off a tensor barrier, which describes the rotation of the honeycomb cells of a given region around an axis perpendicular to the graphene layer. We demonstrate that in this case the intervalley mixing between the Dirac points emerges, and that Klein tunneling occurs.

This leads to the unavoidable postulation of six parallel worlds, the visible one and five invisible worlds. A close study of big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN), baryon asymmetries, cosmic microwave background (CMB) bounds, galaxy dynamics, together with the Standard Model assumptions, help us to set a limit on the mass and width of the new gauge boson. Eletroweak Form Factors in the Light-Front for Spin-1 Particles

The contribution of the light-front valence wave function to the electromagnetic current of spin-1 composite particles is not enough to warranty the proper transformation of the current under rotations. The naive derivation of the plus component of the current in the Drell-Yan-West frame within an analytical and covariant model of the vertex leads to the violation of the rotational symmetry. Light-Front projection of spin-1 electromagnetic current and zero-modes

The issue of the contribution of zero-modes to the light-front projection of the electromagnetic current of phenomenological models of vector particles vertices is addressed in the Drell-Yan frame. Our analytical model of the Bethe-Salpeter amplitude of a spin-1 fermion-antifermion composite state gives a physically motivated light-front wave function symmetric by the exchange of the fermion and antifermion, as in the $ρ$-meson case. We found that among the four independent matrix elements of the plus component in the light-front helicity basis only the $0\to 0$ one carries zero mode contributions. Our derivation generalizes to symmetric models, important for applications, the above conclusion found for a simplified non-symmetrical form of the spin-1 Bethe-Salpeter amplitude with photon-fermion point-like coupling and also for a smeared fermion-photon vertex model.

Towards three-body unitarity in $D^+ \to K^- π^+ π^+$

We assess the importance of final state interactions in $D^+ \rar K^- \p^+ \p^+$, stressing the consistency between two- and three-body interactions. The basic building block in the calculation is a $Kπ$ amplitude based on unitarized chiral perturbation theory and with parameters determined by a fit to elastic LASS data. Its analytic extension to the second sheet allows the determination of two poles, associated with the $\k$ and the $K^*(1430)$, and a representation of the amplitude based on them is constructed. The problem of unitarity in the three-body system is formulated in terms of an integral equation, inspired in the Faddeev formalism, which implements a convolution between the weak vertex and the final state hadronic interaction. Three different topologies are considered for the former and, subsequently, the decay amplitude is expressed as a perturbation series. Each term in this series is systematically related to the previous one and a re-summation was performed. Remaining effects owing to single and double rescattering processes were then added and results compared to FOCUS data. We found that proper three-body effects are important at threshold and fade away rapidly at higher energies. Our model, based on a vector weak vertex, can describe qualitative features of the modulus of the decay amplitude and agrees well with its phase in the elastic region.

Universality in Four-Boson Systems

We report recent advances on the study of universal weakly bound four-boson states from the solutions of the Faddeev-Yakubovsky equations with zero-range two-body interactions. In particular, we present the correlation between the energies of successive tetramers between two neighbor Efimov trimers and compare it to recent finite range potential model calculations. We provide further results on the large momentum structure of the tetramer wave function, where the four-body scale, introduced in the regularization procedure of the bound state equations in momentum space, is clearly manifested. The results we are presenting confirm a previous conjecture on a four-body scaling behavior, which is independent of the three-body one. We show that the correlation between the positions of two successive resonant four-boson recombination peaks are consistent with recent data, as well as with recent calculations close to the unitary limit. Systematic deviations suggest the relevance of range corrections.

Vector interaction strength in Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio models from hadron-quark phase diagrams

We estimate the vector interaction strength of the Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) parametrizations, assuming that its transition curves should be as close as possible of the recently studied RMF-PNJL hadron-quark phase diagrams. Such diagrams are obtained matching relativistic mean-field hadronic models, and the PNJL quark ones. By using this method we found for the magnitude of the vector interaction, often treated as a free parameter, a range of 7.66 GeV$^{-2}\lesssim G_V \lesssim 16.13$ GeV$^{-2}$, or equivalently, $1.52 \lesssim G_V/G_s \lesssim 3.2$, with $G_s$ being the scalar coupling constant of the model. These values are compatible but restricts the range of 4 GeV$^{-2}\lesssim G_V \lesssim 19$ GeV$^{-2}$, recently obtained from lattice QCD data through a different mean-field model approach.

Constraints on two-neutron separation energy in the Borromean $^{22}$C nucleus

The recently extracted matter radius of carbon isotope $^{22}$C allows us to estimate the mean-square distance of a halo neutron with respect to the center-of-mass of this nucleus. By considering this information, we suggest an energy region for an experimental investigation of the unbound $^{21}$C virtual state. Our analysis, in a renormalized zero-ranged three-body model, also indicates that the two-neutron separation energy in $^{22}$C is expected to be found below $\sim$0.4~MeV, where the $^{22}$C is approximated by a Borromean configuration with a pointlike $^{20}$C and two $s$-wave halo neutrons. From Running Gluon Mass to Chiral Symmetry Breaking

The gluon propagator is one of the fundamental Green's functions of QCD. It is an essential ingredient in, for example, the modeling of the Schwinger-Dyson equation used to describe hadronic phenomenology. From the Landau gauge gluon propagator, computed with lattice QCD methods, we discuss its interpretation as a massive propagator and measure the gluon mass as a function of the momenta. Special attention is given to the mass at infrared scales. In the last part of the talk, the gluon mass and chiral symmetry breaking are related via an effective model for QCD.

The gluon mass comes about $\sqrt{N_c}\, Λ_{QCD}$ with the quark condensate being proportional to the gluon mass squared. The model suggests that the restoration of chiral symmetry and the deconfinement transition occur at the same temperature and that, near the transition, the critical exponent for the condensate is twice the gluon mass one. The model also favors the decoupling like solution for the gluon propagator.

Nucleon-nucleon scattering within a multiple subtractive renormalization approach

A methodology to renormalize the nucleon-nucleon interaction, using a recursive multiple subtraction approach to construct the kernel of the scattering equation, is presented. We solve the subtracted scattering equation with the next-leading-order (NLO) and next-to-next-leading-order (NNLO) interactions. The results are presented for all partial waves up to $j=2$, fitted to low-energy experimental data. In our renormalizaton group invariant method, when introducing the NLO and NNLO interactions, the subtraction energy emerges as a renormalization scale and the momentum associated with it comes to be about the QCD scale ($Λ_{QCD}$), irrespectively to the partial wave.

Scaling and universality in two dimensions: three-body bound states with short-ranged interactions

The momentum space zero-range model is used to investigate universal properties of three interacting particles confined to two dimensions. The pertinent equations are first formulated for a system of two identical and one distinct particle and the two different two-body subsystems are characterized by two-body energies and masses. The three-body energy in units of one of the two-body energies is a universal function of the other two-body energy and the mass ratio. We derive convenient analytical formulae for calculations of the three-body energy as function of these two independent parameters and exhibit the results as universal curves. In particular, we show that the three-body system can have any number of stable bound states. When the mass ratio of the distinct to identical particles is greater than 0.22 we find that at most two stable bound states exist, while for two heavy and one light mass an increasing number of bound states is possible. The specific number of stable bound states depends on the ratio of two-body bound state energies and on the mass ratio and we map out an energy-mass phase-diagram of the number of stable bound states. Realizable systems of both fermions and bosons are discussed in this framework.

Universality and scaling limit of weakly-bound tetramers

The occurrence of a new limit cycle in few-body physics, expressing a universal scaling function relating the binding energies of two consecutive tetramer states, is revealed, considering a renormalized zero-range two-body interaction applied to four identical bosons. The tetramer energy spectrum is obtained when adding a boson to an Efimov bound state with energy $B_3$ in the unitary limit (for zero two-body binding, or infinite two-body scattering length). Each excited $N-$th tetramer energy $B_4^{(N)}$ is shown to slide along a scaling function as a short-range four-body scale is changed, emerging from the 3+1 threshold for a universal ratio $B_4^ {(N)}/B_3 \simeq 4.6$, which does not depend on $N$. The new scale can also be revealed by a resonance in the atom-trimer recombination process.

Vortex and gap generation in gauge models of graphene

Effective quantum field theoretical continuum models for graphene are investigated. The models include a complex scalar field and a vector gauge field. Different gauge theories are considered and their gap patterns for the scalar, vector, and fermion excitations are investigated. Different gauge groups lead to different relations between the gaps, which can be used to experimentally distinguish the gauge theories. In this class of models the fermionic gap is a dynamic quantity. The finite-energy vortex solutions of the gauge models have the flux of the "magnetic field" quantized, making the Bohm-Aharonov effect active even when external electromagnetic fields are absent. The flux comes proportional to the scalar field angular momentum quantum number. The zero modes of the Dirac equation show that the gauge models considered here are compatible with fractionalization.

A covariant investigation of Neutral Vector Mesons: dynamical properties and electromagnetic decay widths

A simple, but fully-covariant model for describing neutral Vector Mesons, in both light and heavy sectors, is briefly illustrated. The main ingredients of our relativistic constituent model are i) an Ansatz for the Bethe-Salpeter vertex for Vector Mesons, and ii) a Mandelstam-like formula for the electromagnetic decay widths. The free parameters of our approach are fixed through a comparison with the valence transverse-momentum distribution, $n(k_\perp)$, obtained within phenomenological Light-Front Hamiltonian Dynamics models reproducing the mass spectra. Preliminary results for the transverse-momentum distributions, the parton distribution and the electromagnetic decay constants are shown.

Double resonances in Borromean heteronuclear triatomic systems

We investigate the occurrence of Borromean three-body continuum s-wave resonances, in an $ααβ$ system for large negative two-body scattering lengths. The energy and width are determined by a scaling function with arguments given by energy ratios of the two-body virtual state subsystem energies with the shallowest three-body bound state. The Borromean continuum resonances emerging from Efimov states present a peculiar behavior for trapped ultracold atoms near a Feshbach resonance: two resonances with equal energies at different values of the scattering length. The corresponding three-body recombination peaks should merge as the temperature is raised, with one moving towards lower values of the scattering length as the other moves to larger values.

Light-Front Model of Transition Form-Factors in Heavy Meson Decay

Electroweak transition form factors of heavy meson decays are important ingredients in the extraction of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix elements from experimental data. In this work, within a light-front framework, we calculate electroweak transition form factor for the semileptonic decay of $D$ mesons into a pion or a kaon. The model results underestimate in both cases the new data of CLEO for the larger momentum transfers accessible in the experiment. We discuss possible reasons for that in order to improve the model.

A recent approach for constructing an exact 3D reduction of the 4D matrix elements of the electromagnetic current for an interacting two-fermion system, is briefly reviewed. The properties of the obtained 3D current, like the fulfillment of the Ward-Takashi Identity and its Fock decomposition, will be illustrated in relation with future applications to few-nucleon systems.

Longitudinal and Transverse Parton Momentum Distributions for Hadrons within Relativistic Constituent Quark Models

Longitudinal and transverse parton distributions for pion and nucleon are calculated from hadron vertexes obtained by a study of form factors within relativistic quark models. The relevance of the one-gluon-exchange dominance at short range for the behavior of the form factors at large momentum transfer and of the parton distributions at the end points is stressed.

Mesonic Spectrum from a Dynamical Gravity/Gauge model

Within a formulation of a Dynamical AdS/QCD model we calculate the spectrum of light flavored mesons. The background fields of the model correspond to an IR deformed Anti de Sitter metric coupled to a dilaton field. Confinement comes as a consequence of the dilaton dynamics coupled to gravity. Additionally to the Regge-like spectrum of light- scalar, vector and higher spin mesons, we obtain the decay width of scalar mesons into two pions.

Revisiting the Wu-Yang Monopole: classical solutions and conformal invariance

he Wu-Yang monopole for pure SU(2) Yang-Mills theory is revisited. New classical solutions with finite energy are found for a generalized Wu-Yang configuration. Our method relies on known asymptotic series solutions and explores the conformal invariance of the theory to set the scale for the monopole configurations. Furthermore, by breaking the scale invariance of the pure Yang-Mills theory by a term which simulates the coupling to quark fields, four different monopole configurations with an energy of 2.9 GeV and spatial extent of 1.2 fm, 1.4 fm, 2.4 fm and 2.6 fm are obtained. These configurations may play a role in the transition to the plasma phase.

Scalar mesons within a dynamical holographic QCD model

We show that the infrared dynamics of string modes dual to $q\bar q$ states within a Dynamical AdS/QCD model of coupled dilaton-gravity background gives the Reggelike spectrum of $f0's$ scalars and higher spin mesons consistent with experimental data. The pion mass and its trajectory were also described with a scale deformation of the metric and a rescaled string mass. The available experimental decay widths of the $S\to PP$ decays provided a complementary check of the proposed classification scheme for$f_0(980)$, $f_0(1370)$, $f_0(1500)$ and $f_0(1710)$ as radial excitations of $f_0(600)$. For $f_0(980)$ we estimated a mixing angle of $\pm 20^o$ with other structures.

Scalar Spectrum from a Dynamical Gravity/Gauge model

We show that a Dynamical AdS/QCD model is able to reproduce the linear Regge trajectories for the light-flavor sector of mesons with high spin and also for the scalar and pseudoscalar ones. In addition the model has confinement by the Wilson loop criteria and a mass gap. We also calculate the decay amplitude of scalars into two pion in good agreement to the available experimental data.

Charged three-body system with arbitrary masses near conformal invariance

Within an adiabatic approximation to the three-body Coulomb system, we study the strength of the leading order conformaly invariant attractive dipole interaction produced when a slow charged particle $q_3$ (with mass $m_3$) is captured by the first excited state of a dimer [with individual masses and charges $(m_1,q_1$) and ($m_2,q_2=-q_1$)]. The approach leads to a universal mass-charge critical condition for the existence of three-body level condensation, ${(m_1^{-1}+m_2^{-1})}/ {[(m_1+m_2)^{-1}+m_3^{-1}]}>|{q_1}/(24 q_3)|$, as well as the ratio between the geometrically scaled energy levels. The resulting expressions can be relevant in the analysis of recent experimental setups with charged three-body systems, such as the interactions of excitons, or other matter-antimatter dimers, with a slow charged particle.

The generalized parton distributions of the pion are studied within different light-front approaches for the quark-hadron and quark-photon vertices, exploring different kinematical regions in both the valence and non-valence sector. Moments of the generalized parton distributions which enter the definition of generalized form factors are also compared with recent lattice calculations.

The electromagnetic form factors of light and heavy pseudoscalar mesons are calculated within two covariant constituent-quark models, a light-front and a dispersion relation approach. We investigate the details and physical origins of the model dependence of various hadronic observables: the weak decay constant, the charge radius and the elastic electromagnetic form factor.

The few scales of nuclei and nuclear matter

The well-known correlations of low-energy three and four-nucleon observables with a typical three-nucleon scale (e.g., the Tjon line) is extended to light nuclei and nuclear matter. Evidence for the scaling between light nuclei binding energies and the triton one are pointed out. We argue that the saturation energy and density of nuclear matter are correlated to the triton binding energy. The available systematic nuclear matter calculations indicate a possible band structure representing these correlations.

Three-boson recombination at ultralow temperatures

The effects of trimer continuum resonances are considered in the three-body recombination rate of a Bose system at finite energies for large and negative two-body scattering lengths ($a$). The thermal average of the rate allows to apply our formula to Bose gases at ultra-low temperatures. We found a good quantitative description of the experimental three-body recombination length of cesium atoms to deeply bound molecules up to 500 nK. Consistent with the experimental data, the increase of the temperature moves the resonance peak of the three-body recombination rate to lower values of $|a|$ exhibiting a saturation behavior.

Trajectory of neutron$-$neutron$-^{18}C$ excited three-body state

The trajectory of the first excited Efimov state is investigated by using a renormalized zero-range three-body model for a system with two bound and one virtual two-body subsystems. The approach is applied to $n-n-^{18}$C, where the $n-n$ virtual energy and the three-body ground state are kept fixed. It is shown that such three-body excited state goes from a bound to a virtual state when the $n-^{18}$C binding energy is increased. Results obtained for the $n-^{19}$C elastic cross-section at low energies also show dominance of an $S-$matrix pole corresponding to a bound or virtual Efimov state. It is also presented a brief discussion of these findings in the context of ultracold atom physics with tunable scattering lengths.

Spin-1 Particle in the Light-Front Approach

The electromagnetic current of spin-1 composite particles does not transform properly under rotations if only the valence contribution is considered in the light-front model. In particular, the plus component of the current, evaluated only for the valence component of the wave function, in the Drell-Yan frame violates rotational symmetry, which does not allow a unique calculation of the electromagnetic form-factors. The prescription suggested by Grach and Kondratyuk [Sov. J. Nucl. Phys. 38, 198 (1984)] to extract the form factors from the plus component of the current, eliminates contributions from pair diagrams or zero modes, which if not evaluated properly cause the violation of the rotational symmetry. We address this problem in an analytical and covariant model of a spin-1 composite particle.

Weak decay constant of pseudscalar meson in a QCD-inspired model

We show that a linear scaling between the weak decay constants of pseudoscalar and the vector mesons masses is supported by the available experimental data. The decay constant scale as $f_m/f_{pi}=M_V/M_ρ$ (f_m is decay constant and M_V vector meson ground state mass). This simple form is justified within a renormalized light-front QCD-inpired model for quark-antiquark bound states.

A Relativistic Separable Potential to Describe Pairing in Nuclear Matter

We make use of this fact to develop a relativistic separable potential that correctly describes the pairing fields.

Violations of Lorentz Covariance in Light Front Quark Models

Electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon from relativistic quark models are analyzed: results from null-plane projection of the Feynman triangle diagram are compared with a Bakamjian-Thomas model. The magnetic form factors of the models differ by about 15% at spacelike momentum transfer 0.5 GeV^2, while the charge form factors are much closer. Spurious contributions to electromagnetic form factors due to violations of rotational symmetry are eliminated from both models. One method changes magnetic form factors by about 10%, whereas the charge form factors stay nearly the same. Another one changes the charge form factor of the Bakamjian-Thomas model by more than 50%.

Relativistic Quark Spin Coupling Effects in the Nucleon Electromagnetic Form Factors

We investigate the effect of different forms of relativistic spin coupling of constituent quarks in the nucleon electromagnetic form factors. The four-dimensional integrations in the two-loop Feynman diagram are reduced to the null-plane, such that the light-front wave function is introduced in the computation of the form factors. The neutron charge form factor is very sensitive to different choices of spin coupling schemes, once its magnetic moment is fitted to the experimental value. The scalar coupling between two quarks is preferred by the neutron data, when a reasonable fit of the proton magnetic momentum is found.

Pairs in the light-front and covariance

The electromagnetic current of bound systems in the light-front is constructed in the Breit-Frame, in the limit of momentum transfer $q^+=(q^0+q^3)$ vanishing. In this limit, the pair creation term survives and it is responsible for the covariance of the current. The pair creation term is computed for the $j^+$ current of a spin one composite particle in the Breit-frame. The rotational symmetry of $j^+$ is violated if the pair term is not considered.

Application of Renormalization to Potential Scattering

A recently proposed renormalization scheme can be used to deal with nonrelativistic potential scattering exhibiting ultraviolet divergence in momentum space. A numerical application of this scheme is made in the case of potential scattering with $r^{-2}$ divergence for small r, common in molecular and nuclear physics, by the use of cut-offs in momentum and configuration spaces. The cut-off is finally removed in terms of a physical observable and model-independent result is obtained at low energies. The expected variation of the off-shell behavior of the t matrix arising from the renormalization scheme is also discussed.
