Additional numerical and graphical evidence to support some Conjectures on discrete Schrödinger operators with a more general long range condition

This document contains additional numerical and graphical evidence to support some of the conjectures mentioned in \cite{GM3}. We give more evidence for $κ=3,4$ in dimension 2. As mentioned in that article we still don't quite understand the sets $\boldsymbolμ_κ(Δ)$ and $\boldsymbolΘ_κ(Δ)$ on $(0,1/2)$ for $κ=3$ in dimension 2. Here we give a bunch more threshold energies for $κ= 3$ in dimension 2.

Thresholds and more bands of a.c. Spectrum for the discrete Schr{ö}dinger operator with a more general long range condition

We continue the investigation of the existence of absolutely continuous (a.c.) spectrum for the discrete Schrödinger operator $Δ+V$ on $\ell^2(\Z^d)$, in dimensions $d\geq 2$, for potentials $V$ satisfying the long range condition $n_i(V-τ_i ^κV)(n) = O(\ln^{-q}(|n|))$ for some $q>2$, $κ\in \N$, and all $1 \leq i \leq d$, as $|n| \to \infty$. $τ_i ^κ V$ is the potential shifted by $κ$ units on the $i^{\text{th}}$ coordinate. The difference between this article and \cite{GM2} is that here finite linear combinations of conjugate operators are constructed leading to more bands of a.c.\ spectrum being observed. The methodology is backed primarily by graphical evidence because the linear combinations are built by numerically implementing a polynomial interpolation. On the other hand an infinitely countable set of thresholds, whose exact definition is given later, is rigorously identified. Our overall conjecture, at least in dimension 2, is that the spectrum of $Δ+V$ is void of singular continuous spectrum, and consecutive thresholds are endpoints of a band of a.c. spectrum.

The problem of deficiency indices for discrete Schrödinger operators on locally finite graphs

The number of self-adjoint extensions of a symmetric operator acting on a complex Hilbert space is characterized by its deficiency indices. Given a locally finite unoriented simple tree, we prove that the deficiency indices of any discrete Schrödinger operator are either null or infinite. We also prove that almost surely, there is a tree such that all discrete Schrödinger operators are essentially self-adjoint. Furthermore, we provide several criteria of essential self-adjointness. We also adress some importance to the case of the adjacency matrix and conjecture that, given a locally finite unoriented simple graph, its the deficiency indices are either null or infinite. Besides that, we consider some generalizations of trees and weighted graphs.

Limiting absorption principle for some long range perturbations of Dirac systems at threshold energies

We establish a limiting absorption principle for some long range perturbations of the Dirac systems at threshold energies. We cover multi-center interactions with small coupling constants. The analysis is reduced to study a family of non-self-adjoint operators. The technique is based on a positive commutator theory for non self-adjoint operators, which we develop in appendix. We also discuss some applications to the dispersive Helmholzt model in the quantum regime.

The spectrum of Schrödinger operators and Hodge Laplacians on conformally cusp manifolds

We describe the spectrum of the $k$-form Laplacian on conformally cusp Riemannian manifolds. The essential spectrum is shown to vanish precisely when the $k$ and $k-1$ de Rham cohomology groups of the boundary vanish. We give Weyl-type asymptotics for the eigenvalue-counting function in the purely discrete case. In the other case we analyze the essential spectrum via positive commutator methods and establish a limiting absorption principle. This implies the absence of the singular spectrum for a wide class of metrics. We also exhibit a class of potentials $V$ such that the Schrödinger operator has compact resolvent, although $V$ tends to $-\infty$ in most of the infinity. We correct a statement from the literature regarding the essential spectrum of the Laplacian on forms on hyperbolic manifolds of finite volume, and we propose a conjecture about the existence of such manifolds in dimension four whose cusps are rational homology spheres.

Spectral analysis of magnetic Laplacians on conformally cusp manifolds

We consider an open manifold which is the interior of a compact manifold with boundary. Assuming gauge invariance, we classify magnetic fields with compact support into being trapping or non-trapping. We study spectral properties of the associated magnetic Laplacian for a class of Riemannian metrics which includes complete hyperbolic metrics of finite volume. When $B$ is non-trapping, the magnetic Laplacian has nonempty essential spectrum. Using Mourre theory, we show the absence of singular continuous spectrum and the local finiteness of the point spectrum. When $B$ is trapping, the spectrum is discrete and obeys the Weyl law. The existence of trapping magnetic fields with compact support depends on cohomological conditions, indicating a new and very strong long-range effect. In the non-gauge invariant case, we exhibit a strong Aharonov-Bohm effect. On hyperbolic surfaces with at least two cusps, we show that the magnetic Laplacian associated to every magnetic field with compact support has purely discrete spectrum for some choices of the vector potential, while other choices lead to a situation of limit absorption principle. We also study perturbations of the metric. We show that in the Mourre theory it is not necessary to require a decay of the derivatives of the perturbation. This very singular perturbation is then brought closer to the perturbation of a potential.
