Affine pure-jump processes on positive Hilbert-Schmidt operators

We show the existence of a broad class of affine Markov processes in the cone of positive self-adjoint Hilbert-Schmidt operators. Such processes are well-suited as infinite dimensional stochastic volatility models. The class of processes we consider is an infinite dimensional analogue of the affine processes in the space of positive semi-definite and symmetric matrices studied in Cuchiero et al. [Ann. Appl. Probab. 21 (2011) 397-463]. As in the finite dimensional case, the processes we construct allow for a drift depending affine linearly on the state, as well jumps governed by a jump measure that depends affine linearly on the state. However, because the infinite-dimensional cone of positive self-adjoint Hilbert-Schmidt operators has empty interior, we do not consider a diffusion term. This empty interior also demands a new approach to proving existence: instead of using standard localisation techniques, we employ the theory on generalized Feller semigroups introduced in Dörsek and Teichmann [arXiv 2010] and further developed in Cuchiero and Teichmann [Journal of Evolution Equations (2020)]. Our approach requires a second moment condition on the jump measures involved, consequently, we obtain explicit formulas for the first and second moments of the affine process.

Convergence in Hölder norms with applications to Monte Carlo methods in infinite dimensions

We show that if a sequence of piecewise affine linear processes converges in the strong sense with a positive rate to a stochastic process which is strongly Hölder continuous in time, then this sequence converges in the strong sense even with respect to much stronger Hölder norms and the convergence rate is essentially reduced by the Hölder exponent. Our first application hereof establishes pathwise convergence rates for spectral Galerkin approximations of stochastic partial differential equations. Our second application derives strong convergence rates of multilevel Monte Carlo approximations of expectations of Banach space valued stochastic processes.

A perturbation result for quasi-linear stochastic differential equations in UMD Banach spaces

We consider the effect of perturbations to a quasi-linear parabolic stochastic differential equation set in a UMD Banach space $X$. To be precise, we consider perturbations of the linear part, i.e. the term concerning a linear operator $A$ generating an analytic semigroup. We provide estimates for the difference between the solution to the original equation $U$ and the solution to the perturbed equation $U_0$ in the $L^p(Ω;C([0,T];X))$-norm. In particular, this difference can be estimated $|| R(λ:A)-R(λ:A_0) ||$ for sufficiently smooth non-linear terms. The work is inspired by the desire to prove convergence of space discretization schemes for such equations. In this article we prove convergence rates for the case that $A$ is approximated by its Yosida approximation, and in a forthcoming publication we consider convergence of Galerkin and finite-element schemes in the case that $X$ is a Hilbert space.

Vector-valued decoupling and the Burkholder-Davis-Gundy inequality

Let X be a Banach space. We prove p-independence of the one-sided decoupling inequality for X-valued tangent martingales as introduced by Kwapien and Woyczynski. It is known that a Banach space X satisfies the two-sided decoupling inequality if and only if X is a UMD Banach space. The one-sided decoupling inequality is a weaker property, including e.g. the space L^1. We provide information on the optimal constants for various spaces, and give a upper estimate of order p in general. In the second part of our paper we derive Burkholder-Davis-Gundy type estimates for p-th moments, p in (0,infty), of X-valued stochastic integrals, provided X is a UMD Banach space or a space in which the one-sided decoupling inequality holds.

Convergence rates of the splitting scheme for parabolic linear stochastic Cauchy problems

We study the splitting scheme associated with the linear stochastic Cauchy problem dU(t) = AU(t) dt + dW(t), where A is the generator of an analytic C_0-semigroup S={S(t)} on a Banach space E and W={W(t)} is a Brownian motion with values in a fractional domain space E_\b associated with A. We prove that if \a,\b,\g,þ\ge 0 are such that \g + þ< 1 and max[0,(\a-\b+þ)] + \g < 1/2, then the approximate solutions U_n (where n is the number of time steps) converge to the solution U in the Holder space C^\g([0,T];E_\a), both in L^p-means and almost surely, with rate 1/n^þ.

Vector-valued stochastic delay equations - a semigroup approach

Let E be a type 2 UMD Banach space, H a Hilbert space and let p be in [1,\infty). Consider the following stochastic delay equation in E: dX(t) = AX(t) + CX_t + b(X(t),X_t)dW_H(t), t>0; X(0) = x_0; X_0 = f_0. Here A : D(A) -> E is the generator of a C_0-semigroup, the operator C is given by a Riemann-Stieltjes integral, B : E x L^p(-1,0;E) -> γ(H,E) is a Lipschitz function and W_H is an H-cylindrical Brownian motion. We prove that a solution to \eqref{SDE1} is equivalent to a solution to the corresponding stochastic Cauchy problem, and use this to prove the existence, uniqueness and continuity of a solution.
