The $ν$ EYE Neutrino Telescope: Conceptual Design Report

The {$\bfνEYE$} (``new eye'', Neutrino Experiment at YEmilab, \href{https://sites.google.com/korea.ac.kr/the-nueye-telescope} {\tt nuEYE.korea.ac.kr}) neutrino project leverages the existing large pit at Yemilab located in South Korea, to reveal the existence of sterile neutrino, the up-turn of the neutrinos from the Sun, and the first minimum of the neutrino oscillation over distances on the order of tens of kilometers for the first time. This initiative is expected to facilitate a wide range of significant scientific and technological advancements within both South Korean and international communities engaged in neutrino science and technology. The {$\bfνEYE$} aims to investigate the largely unexplored sector of almost-massless lepton in the elementary particle physics in detail. The emphasis will be placed on the study of real time nuclear processes and reactions involving possible sterile neutrinos on timescales down to nanoseconds in ultra-high intense or radioactive neutrino beams for the first time in the world; the {$\bfνEYE$} looks at to-be universal oscillation (``up-turn'' in the electron neutrino survival probability) of neutrinos predicted by the three neutrino oscillation paradigm. This will confirm or deny our current understanding on the particle interactions of the lepton sector; and measurement of the first oscillation minimum between the first and second neutrinos in mass.

A first order dark $SU(2)_D$ phase transition with vector dark matter in the light of NANOGrav 12.5 yr data

We study a dark $SU(2)_D$ gauge extension of the standard model (SM) with the possibility of a strong first order phase transition (FOPT) taking place below the electroweak scale in the light of NANOGrav 12.5 yr data. As pointed out recently by the NANOGrav collaboration, gravitational waves (GW) from such a FOPT with appropriate strength and nucleation temperature can explain their 12.5 yr data. We impose a classical conformal invariance on the scalar potential of $SU(2)_D$ sector involving only a complex scalar doublet with negligible couplings with the SM Higgs. While a FOPT at sub-GeV temperatures can give rise to stochastic GW around nano-Hz frequencies being in agreement with NANOGrav findings, the $SU(2)_D$ vector bosons which acquire masses as a result of the FOPT in dark sector, can also serve as dark matter (DM) in the universe. The relic abundance of such vector DM can be generated in a non-thermal manner from the SM bath via scalar portal mixing. We also discuss future sensitivity of gravitational wave experiments to the model parameter space.

A new mechanism for matter-antimatter asymmetry and connection with dark matter

We propose a new mechanism for generating matter-antimatter asymmetry via the interference of tree-level diagrams only, where the imaginary part of the Breit-Wigner propagator for an unstable mediator plays a crucial role. We first derive a general result that a nonzero $CP$-asymmetry can be generated via at least two sets of interfering tree-level diagrams involving either $2\rightarrow2$ or $1\rightarrow n$ (with $n\geq3$) processes. We illustrate this point in a simple TeV-scale extension of the Standard Model with an inert Higgs doublet and right-handed neutrinos, along with an electroweak-triplet scalar field, where small Majorana neutrino masses are generated via a combination of radiative type-I and tree-level type-II seesaw mechanisms. The imaginary part needed for the required $CP$-asymmetry comes from the trilinear coupling of the inert doublet with the triplet scalar, along with the width of the triplet scalar mediator. The real part of the neutral component of the inert doublet serves as a cold dark matter candidate. The evolutions of the dark matter relic density and the baryon asymmetry are intimately related in this scenario.

Leptogenesis from a $U(1)_D$ resonance

We propose a novel mechanism to realize leptogenesis through the Breit-Wigner resonance of a dark $U(1)_D$ gauge boson $Z_D$, which mediates lepton number violating annihilations of dark matter (DM) in the context of the scotogenic model with a $U(1)_D$. The processes occur out of equilibrium and the DM freezes out lately giving rise to the observed abundance. The CP violation required for leptogenesis can be achieved by the interference between tree-level t-channel scattering of DM and the subsequent 1-loop mediated by $Z_D$, which arises due to the unremovable imaginary part of either the $Z_D$ propagator coming from its self-energy correction or the 1-loop giving rise to the effective coupling of $Z_D\barνν$.

Observable Gravitational Waves in Minimal Scotogenic Model

We scrutinise the widely studied minimal scotogenic model of dark matter (DM) and radiative neutrino mass from the requirement of a strong first order electroweak phase transition (EWPT) and observable gravitational waves at future planned space based experiments. The scalar DM scenario is similar to inert scalar doublet extension of standard model where a strong first order EWPT favours a portion of the low mass regime of DM which is disfavoured by the latest direct detection bounds. In the fermion DM scenario, we get newer region of parameter space which favours strong first order EWPT as the restriction on mass ordering within inert scalar doublet gets relaxed. While such leptophilic fermion DM remains safe from stringent direct detection bounds, newly allowed low mass regime of charged scalar can leave tantalising signatures at colliders and can also induce charged lepton flavour violation within reach of future experiments. While we get such new region of parameter space satisfying DM relic, strong first order EWPT with detectable gravitational waves, light neutrino mass and other relevant constraints, we also improve upon previous analysis in similar model by incorporating appropriate resummation effects in effective finite temperature potential.

TeV Scale Leptogenesis via Dark Sector Scatterings

We propose a novel scenario of generating lepton asymmetry via annihilation and coannihilation of dark sector particles including t-channel processes. In order to realistically implement this idea, we consider the scotogenic model having three right handed neutrinos and a new scalar doublet, all of which are odd under an in-built $Z_2$ symmetry. The lightest $Z_2$ odd particle, if electromagnetically neutral, can be a dark matter candidate while annihilation and coannihilation between different $Z_2$ odd particles into standard model leptons serve as the source of lepton asymmetry. The light neutrino masses arise at one loop level with $Z_2$ odd fields going inside the loop. We show that experimental data related to light neutrinos, dark matter relic abundance and baryon asymmetry can be simultaneously satisfied in the model for two different cases: one with fermion dark matter and the other with scalar dark matter. In both scenarios, t-channel annihilation as well as coannihilation of $Z_2$ odd particles play a non-trivial role in producing the non-zero CP asymmetry. Both the scenarios remain allowed from DM direct detection while keeping the scale of leptogenesis as low as TeV or less, lower than the one for vanilla leptogenesis scenario in scotogenic model along with the additional advantage of explaining the baryon-dark matter coincidence to some extent. Due to such low scale, the model is testable through rare decay experiments looking for charged lepton flavour violation.

A Model of Neutrino Anomalies and IceCube data

We interpret the neutrino anomalies in neutrino oscillation experiments and the high energy neutrino events at IceCube in terms of neutrino oscillations in an extension of the standard model where three sterile neutrinos are introduced so as to make two light neutrinos to be Pseudo-Dirac particles and a light neutrino to be a Majorana particle. Our model is different from the so-called $3+n$ model with $n$ sterile neutrinos suggested to interpret short baseline anomalies in terms of neutrino oscillations. While the Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata (PMNS) matrix in $3+n$ model is simply extended to $n\times n$ unitary matrix, the neutrino mixing matrix in our model is parameterized so as to keep the $3\times3$ PMNS mixing matrix for three active neutrinos unitary. There are also no flavor changing neutral current interactions leading to the conversion of active neutrinos to sterile ones or vice versa. We derive new forms of neutrino oscillation probabilities containing the new interference between the active and sterile neutrinos which are characterized by additional new parameters $Δm^2$ and $θ$. Based on the new formulae derived, we show how the short baseline neutrino anomalies can be explained in terms of oscillations, and study the implication of the high energy neutrino events detected at IceCube on the probe of pseudo-Dirac neutrinos. New phenomenological effects attributed to the existence of the sterile neutrinos are discussed.

A Model for Pseudo-Dirac Neutrinos: Leptogenesis and Ultra-High Energy Neutrinos

We propose a model where sterile neutrinos are introduced to make light neutrinos to be pseudo-Dirac particles. It is shown how tiny mass splitting necessary for realizing pseudo-Dirac neutrinos can be achieved. Within the model, we show how leptogenesis can be successfully generated. Motivated by the recent observation of very high energy neutrino events at IceCube, we study a possibility to observe the effects of the pseudo-Dirac property of neutrinos by performing astronomical-scale baseline experiments to uncover the oscillation effects of very tiny mass splitting. Using the result of global fit to neutrino data for the input of neutrino mixing angles and CP phase at $1σ$ C.L. and fixing neutrino energy and mass splittings, we study how the oscillation effects induced by pseudo-Dirac neutrinos may affect the track-to-shower ratio obtained from IceCube data. We also discuss future prospect to observe the effects of the pseudo-Dirac property of neutrinos at high energy neutrino experiments.

Higgs potential and hidden light Higgs scenario in two Higgs doublet models

In two Higgs doublet models (2HDM), there exists an interesting possibility, the hidden light Higgs scenario, that the discovered SM-like Higgs boson is the heavier \textit{CP}-even Higgs boson $H^0$ and the lighter \textit{CP}-even $h^0$ has not been observed yet in any experiment. We study the current status of this scenario in Types I, II, X, and Y, through the scans of the 2HDM parameters with all relevant theoretical and experimental constraints. We employ not only the most up-to-date Higgs signal strength measurements with the feed-down effects, but also all the available LHC exclusion limits from heavy Higgs searches. Adjusting the heavier $H^0$ to the 125 GeV state while hiding the lighter $h^0$ from the LEP Higgs search prohibits the extreme decoupling limit: there exist upper bounds on the masses of the pseudoscalar $A^0$ and the charged Higgs $H^\pm$ below about 600 GeV. In addition, the $Z_2$ symmetry is shown to be a good approximate symmetry since the soft $Z_2$ symmetry breaking parameter $m_{12}^2$ should be less than about (45 GeV)$^2$. Most interestingly, a few parameters in the Higgs potential and the related Higgs triple and quartic couplings are shown to be meaningfully constrained by the current data. The double Higgs-strahlung process at an $e^+ e^-$ collider is also studied.

Top-phobic heavy Higgs boson as the 750 GeV diphoton resonance

A hint of a new resonance at a mass of 750\,GeV has been observed in the diphoton channel of LHC Run 2 at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. The signal rate is too large to interpret it as a new Higgs boson in the context of weakly-coupled renormalizable models. One way is to reduce its total decay rate, which is possible if the CP-even heavy Higgs boson $H^0$ in the aligned two Higgs doublet model becomes top-phobic. To ensure sufficient gluon fusion production, we introduce vector-like quarks (VLQ). The Higgs precision data as well as the exclusion limits from no excesses in other 8 TeV LHC searches of $Zγ$, $b\bar{b}$, $τ^+τ^-$, and $jj$ channels are simultaneously included. In Type I, top-phobic $H^0$ cannot explain the 750\,GeV diphoton signal and the Higgs precision data simultaneously since the universal Yukawa couplings of the up-type and down-type VLQs always make more contribution to $h^0$ than to $H^0$. In Type II, small Yukawa coupling of the up-type VLQ but sizable Yukawa coupling for the down-type VLQ is shown to explain the signal while satisfying other LHC exclusion limits.

IceCube events and decaying dark matter: hints and constraints

In the light of the new IceCube data on the (yet unidentified) astrophysical neutrino flux in the PeV and sub-PeV range, we present an update on the status of decaying dark matter interpretation of the events. In particular, we develop further the angular distribution analysis and discuss the perspectives for diagnostics. By performing various statistical tests (maximum likelihood, Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Anderson-Darling tests) we conclude that currently the data show a mild preference (below the two sigma level) for the angular distribution expected from dark matter decay vs. the isotropic distribution foreseen for a conventional astrophysical flux of extragalactic origin. Also, we briefly develop some general considerations on heavy dark matter model building and on the compatibility of the expected energy spectrum of decay products with the IceCube data, as well as with existing bounds from gamma-rays. Alternatively, assuming that the IceCube data originate from conventional astrophysical sources, we derive bounds on both decaying and annihilating dark matter for various final states. The lower limits on heavy dark matter lifetime improve by up to an order of magnitude with respect to existing constraints, definitively making these events---even if astrophysical in origin---an important tool for astroparticle physics studies.

Muon $g-2$ in the Aligned Two Higgs Doublet Model

We study the Two-Higgs-Doublet Model with the aligned Yukawa sector (A2HDM) in light of the observed excess measured in the muon anomalous magnetic moment. We take into account the existing theoretical and experimental constraints with up-to-date values and demonstrate that a phenomenologically interesting region of parameter space exists. With a detailed parameter scan, we show a much larger region of viable parameter space in this model beyond the limiting case Type X 2HDM as obtained before. It features the existence of light scalar states with masses $3$ GeV $\lesssim m_H^{} \lesssim 50$ GeV, or $\ 10$ GeV $\lesssim m_A^{} \lesssim 130$ GeV, with enhanced couplings to tau leptons. The charged Higgs boson is typically heavier, with $200$ GeV $ \lesssim m^{}_{H^+} \lesssim 630$ GeV. The surviving parameter space is forced into the CP-conserving limit by EDM constraints. Some Standard Model observables may be significantly modified, including a possible new decay mode of the SM-like Higgs boson to four taus. We comment on future measurements and direct searches for those effects at the LHC as tests of the model.

Prediction of Leptonic CP Phase in $A_4$ symmetric model

We consider minimal modifications to tribimaximal (TBM) mixing matrix which accommodate non-zero mixing angle $θ_{13}$ and CP violation. We derive four possible forms for the minimal modifications to TBM mixing in a model with $A_4$ flavor symmetry by incorporating symmetry breaking terms appropriately. We show how possible values of the Dirac-type CP phase $δ_D$ can be predicted with regards to two neutrino mixing angles in the standard parametrization of the neutrino mixing matrix. Carrying out numerical analysis based on the recent updated experimental results for neutrino mixing angles, we predict the values of the CP phase for all possible cases. We also confront our predictions of the CP phase with the updated fit.

Renormalization Group Evolution of Neutrino Parameters in Presence of Seesaw Threshold Effects and Majorana Phases

We examine the renormalization group evolution (RGE) for different mixing scenarios in the presence of seesaw threshold effects from high energy scale (GUT) to the low electroweak (EW) scale in the Standard Model (SM) and Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We consider four mixing scenarios namely Tri-Bimaximal Mixing, Bimaximal Mixing, Hexagonal Mixing and Golden Ratio Mixing which come from different flavor symmetries at the GUT scale. We find that the Majorana phases play an important role in the RGE running of these mixing patterns along with the seesaw threshold corrections. We present a comparative study of the RGE of all these mixing scenarios both with and without Majorana CP phases when seesaw threshold corrections are taken into consideration. We find that in the absence of these Majorana phases both the RGE running and seesaw effects may lead to $θ_{13}<$ 5$^\circ$ at low energies both in the SM and MSSM. However, if the Majorana phases are incorporated to the mixing matrix the running can be enhanced both in the SM and MSSM. Even by incorporating non zero Majorana CP phases in the SM, we do not get $θ_{13}$ in its present 3$σ$ range. The current values of the two mass squared differences and mixing angles including $θ_{13}$ can be produced in the MSSM case with tan$β$ = 10 and non zero Majorana CP phases at low energy. We also calculate the order of effective Majorana mass and Jarlskog Invariant for each scenario under consideration.

Four-neutrino analysis of 1.5km-baseline reactor antineutrino oscillations

The masses of sterile neutrinos are not yet known, and depending on the orders of magnitudes, their existence may explain reactor anomalies or the spectral shape of reactor neutrino events at 1.5km-baseline detector. Here, we present four-neutrino analysis of the results announced by RENO and Daya Bay, which performed the definitive measurements of $θ_{13}$ based on the disappearance of reactor antineutrinos at km-order baselines. Our results using 3+1 scheme include the exclusion curve of $Δm^2_{41}$ vs. $θ_{14}$ and the adjustment of $θ_{13}$ due to correlation with $θ_{14}$. The value of $θ_{13}$ obtained by RENO and Daya Bay with a three-neutrino oscillation analysis is included in the $1σ$ interval of $θ_{13}$ allowed by our four-neutrino analysis.

Prediction of leptonic CP phase from perturbatively modified tribimaximal (or bimaximal) mixing

We consider the perturbatively modified tribimaximal (or bimaximal) mixing to estimate the (Dirac-type) CP phase in neutrino mixing matrix. The expressions for the CP phase are derived from the equivalence between the standard parametrization of the neutrino mixing matrix for the Majorana neutrino and modified tribimaximal or bimaximal mixing matrices with appropriate CP phases. Carrying out numerical analysis based on the current experimental results for neutrino mixing angles, we can predict the values of the CP phase for several possible cases.

Two Higgs doublet models for the LHC Higgs boson data at $\sqrt{s}=$ 7 and 8 TeV

Updated LHC data on the new 126 GeV boson during the 7 and 8 TeV runnings strengthen the standard model Higgs boson interpretation further. Through the global $χ^2$ analysis, we investigate whether the new particle could be one of the scalar particles in two Higgs doublet models. Four types (Type I, II, X and Y) are comprehensively studied. Taking the recent analysis on the spin-parity of the new boson, we consider two scenarios: the new boson is either the light CP-even one ($h^0$) or the heavy CP-even one ($H^0$). It is found that both scenarios are consistent with the new data, not only in the parameter regions near the decoupling limit but also in other regions far from the decoupling limit. In addition, the current data are compatible with the possibility that the light Higgs boson $h^0$ is hidden in the mass window of 90-100 GeV. The diphoton or $ττ$ channel can provide a probe of this possibility by the enhanced signal rates.

Constraining parameter space in type-II two-Higgs doublet model in light of a 126 GeV Higgs boson

We explore the implications of a 126 GeV Higgs boson indicated by the recent LHC results for two-Higgs doublet model (2HDM). Identifying the 126 GeV Higgs boson as either the lighter or heavier of CP even neutral Higgs bosons in 2HDM, we examine how the masses of Higgs fields and mixing parameters can be constrained by the theoretical conditions and experimental constraints. The theoretical conditions taken into account are the vacuum stability, perturbativity and unitarity required to be satisfied up to a cut-off scale. We also show how bounds on the masses of Higgs bosons and mixing parameters depend on the cut-off scale. In addition, we investigate whether the allowed regions of parameter space can accommodate particularly the enhanced di-photon signals, ZZ* and WW* decay modes of the Higgs boson, and examine the prediction of the signal strength of Zγ decay mode for the allowed regions of the parameter space.

Spontaneous CP Violation in $A_4$ Flavor Symmetry and Leptogenesis

We propose a simple renormalizable model for the spontaneous CP violation based on $SU(2)_{L}\times U(1)_{Y}\times A_{4}$ symmetry in a radiative seesaw mechanism, which can be guaranteed by an extra $Z_{2}$ symmetry. In our model CP is spontaneously broken at high energies, after breaking of flavor symmetry, by a complex vacuum expectation value of $A_{4}$-triplet and gauge singlet scalar field. We show that the spontaneously generated CP phase could become a natural source of leptogenesis, %CP violation for neutrino oscillation and leptogenesis, respectively. Then, and also investigate CP violation at low energies in the lepton sector and show how the CP phases in PMNS could be arisen through spontaneous symmetry breaking mechanism. As a numerical study, interestingly, we show that the normal mass hierarchy favors relatively large values of $θ_{13}$, large deviations from maximality of $θ_{23}<π/4$ and Dirac-CP phase $0^{\circ}\leqδ_{CP}\leq50^{\circ}$ and $300^{\circ}\leqδ_{CP}\leq360^{\circ}$. For the inverted hierarchy case, the experimentally measured values of $θ_{13}$ favors $θ_{23}>π/4$ and discrete values of $δ_{CP}$ around $100^{\circ},135^{\circ},255^{\circ}$ and $300^{\circ}$. Finally, with a successful leptogenesis our numerical results give more predictive values on the Dirac CP phase: for the normal mass hierarchy $1^{\circ}\lesssimδ_{CP}\lesssim10^{\circ}$ and for inverted one $δ_{CP}\sim100^{\circ},135^{\circ},300^{\circ}$.

Two Higgs Doublets Model in Gauge-Higgs Unification framework

We discuss the realization of two Higgs doublets model in the framework of 6 dimensional Gauge-Higgs Unification model with a simple Lie group G_M. Two Higgs SU(2)_L doublets can emerge at the low energy effective theory, and the quartic coupling terms in the scalar potential, essential for the electroweak symmetry breaking, are now G_M gauge invariant and permissive. A realistic two Higgs doublets model can possibly be obtained only when two of the root vectors associated with the would-be Higgs doublets and the root vector for SU(2)_L form an isosceles triangle with vertex angle either of Pi/3, Pi/2, or 2Pi/3. Moreover, depending on G_M, the scalar potential of resulting two Higgs doublets model can admit only a few limited forms. The mass spectrum of the physical Higgs and the weak mixing angle are briefly discussed.

Unitarity Constraints in the standard model with a singlet scalar field

Motivated by the discovery of a new scalar field and amelioration of the electroweak vacuum stability ascribed to a singlet scalar field embedded in the standard model (SM), we examine the implication of the perturbative unitarity in the SM with a singlet scalar field. Taking into account the full contributions to the scattering amplitudes, we derive unitarity conditions on the scattering matrix which can be translated into bounds on the masses of the scalar fields. In the case that the singlet scalar field develops vacuum expectation value (VEV), we get the upper bound on the singlet scalar mass varying with the mixing between the singlet and Higgs scalars. On the other hand, the mass of the Higgs scalar can be constrained by the unitarity condition in the case that the VEV of the singlet scalar is not generated. Applying the upper bound on the Higgs mass to the scenario of the unitarized Higgs inflation, we discuss how the unitarity condition can constrain the Higgs inflation. The singlet scalar mass is not constrained by the unitarity itself when we impose Z_2 in the model because of no mixing with the Higgs scalar. But, regarding the singlet scalar field as a cold dark matter candidate, we derive upper bound on the singlet scalar mass by combining the observed relic abundance with the unitarity condition.

Comprehensive study of two Higgs doublet model in light of the new boson with mass around 125 GeV

The recent discovery of a new boson of mass roughly 125 GeV has been reported by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations. Although its signals in various decay modes resemble those of the standard model (SM) Higgs boson, observed are the combinations of entangled information about the production, decay rates and total decay width of the new boson. In addition, some decay channels show non-negligible deviation from the SM expectation, such as the $2σ$ excess in the diphoton channel. In the four types (I, II, X and Y) of two Higgs doublet models, we perform the global $χ^2$ fit in three scenarios: (i) the new boson is the light CP-even Higgs boson $h^0$; (ii) it is the heavy CP-even Higgs boson $H^0$; (iii) the signals are from degenerate $h^0$ and the pseudoscalar $A^0$. Considering other phenomenological constraints such as flavor physics, electroweak precision data, and the LEP search for the Higgs boson, we find that the the first scenarios in Type II and Type Y models actually provide better or similarly good fit to the data than the SM. All the other models are excluded at 95% C.L..

Inflation and dark matter in two Higgs doublet models

We consider the Higgs inflation in the extension of the Standard Model with two Higgs doublets coupled to gravity non-minimally. In the presence of an approximate global U(1) symmetry in the Higgs sector, both radial and angular modes of neutral Higgs bosons drive inflation where large non-Gaussianity is possible from appropriate initial conditions on the angular mode. We also discuss the case with single-field inflation for which the U(1) symmetry is broken to a Z_2 subgroup. We show that inflationary constraints, perturbativity and stability conditions restrict the parameter space of the Higgs quartic couplings at low energy in both multi- and single-field cases. Focusing on the inert doublet models where Z_2 symmetry remains unbroken at low energy, we show that the extra neutral Higgs boson can be a dark matter candidate consistent with the inflationary constraints. The doublet dark matter is always heavy in multi-field inflation while it can be light due to the suppression of the co-annihilation in single-field inflation. The implication of the extra quartic couplings on the vacuum stability bound is also discussed in the light of the recent LHC limits on the Higgs mass.

Non-zero $θ_{13}$ and CP violation in a model with $A_4$ flavor symmetry

Motivated by recent observations of non-zero $θ_{13}$ from the Daya Bay and RENO experiments, we propose a renormalizable neutrino model with $A_4$ discrete symmetry accounting for deviations from the tri-bimaximal mixing pattern of neutrino mixing matrix indicated by neutrino oscillation data. In the model, the light neutrino masses can be generated by radiative corrections, and we show how the light neutrino mass matrix can be diagonalized by the Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata mixing matrix whose entries are determined by the current neutrino data including the Daya Bay result. We show that the origin of the deviations from the TBM mixing is non-degeneracy of the neutrino Yukawa coupling constants, and unremovable CP phases in the neutrino Yukawa matrix give rise to both low energy CP violation measurable from neutrino oscillation and high energy CP violation.

We examine how a parametrization of neutrino mixing matrix reflecting quark-lepton complementarity can be probed by considering phase-averaged oscillation probabilities, flavor composition of neutrino fluxes coming from atmospheric and astrophysical neutrinos and lepton flavor violating radiative decays. We discuss about some distinct features of the parametrization by comparing with the triminimal parametrization of perturbations to tri-bimaximal neutrino mixing matrix.

Weak Mixing Angle and Higgs Mass in Gauge-Higgs Unification Models with Brane Kinetic Terms

We show that the idea of Gauge-Higgs unification(GHU) can be rescued from the constraint of weak mixing angle by introducing localized brane kinetic terms in higher dimensional GHU models with bulk and simple gauge groups. We find that those terms lead to a ratio between Higgs and W boson masses, which is a little bit deviated from the one derived in the standard model. From numerical analysis, we find that the current lower bound on the Higgs mass tends to prefer to exceptional groups E(6), E(7), E(8) rather than other groups like SU(3l), SO(2n+1), G(2), and F(4) in 6-dimensional(D) GHU models irrespective of the compactification scales. For the compactification scale below 1 TeV, the Higgs masses in 6D GHU models with SU(3l), SO(2n+1), G(2), and F(4) groups are predicted to be less than the current lower bound unless a model parameter responsible for re-scaling SU(2) gauge coupling is taken to be unnaturally large enough. To see how the situation is changed in more higher dimensional GHU model, we take 7D S^{3}/ Z_{2} and 8D T^{4}/ Z_{2} models. It turns out from our numerical analysis that these higher dimensional GHU models with gauge groups except for E(6) can lead to the Higgs boson whose masses are predicted to be above the current lower bound only for the compatification scale above 1 TeV without taking unnaturally large value of the model parameter, whereas the Higgs masses in the GHU models with E(6) are compatible with the current lower bound even for the compatification scale below 1 TeV.

A direct link between neutrinoless double beta decay and leptogenesis in a seesaw model with $S_4$ symmetry

We study how leptogenesis can be implemented in a seesaw model with $S_4$ flavor symmetry, which leads to the neutrino tri-bimaximal mixing matrix and degenerate right-handed (RH) neutrino spectrum. Introducing a tiny soft $S_4$ symmetry breaking term in the RH neutrino mass matrix, we show that the flavored resonant leptogenesis can be successfully realized, which can lower the seesaw scale much so as to make it possible to probe in colliders. Even though such a tiny soft breaking term is essential for leptogenesis, it does not significantly affect the low energy observables. We also investigate how the effective light neutrino mass $|<m_{ee}> |$ associated with neutrinoless double beta decay can be predicted along with the neutrino mass hierarchies by imposing experimental data of low-energy observables. We find a direct link between leptogenesis and neutrinoless double beta decay characterized by $|<m_{ee}>|$ through a high energy CP phase $ϕ$, which is correlated with low energy Majorana CP phases. It is shown that our predictions of $|<m_{ee}>|$ for some fixed parameters of high energy physics can be constrained by the current observation of baryon asymmetry.

Dark matter signals and cosmic ray anomalies in an extended seesaw model

An extended seesaw model proposed to achieve low scale leptogenesis can resolve the excess positron and electron fluxes observed from PAMELA, ATIC and/or Fermi-LAT, and simultaneously accommodate some of recent experimental results for dark matter (DM) signals. In this approach, in addition to SU(2)_L doublet and the (light) singlet Higgs fields, an extra vector-like singlet neutrino and a singlet scalar field, which are coexisting two-particle dark matter candidates, are responsible for the origin of the excess positron and electron fluxes to resolve the PAMELA, ATIC and/or Fermi-LAT anomalies, as well as for the DM signals observed from direct searches in low mass scale.

Effects of Large Threshold Corrections in Supersymmetric Type-I Seesaw Model

We investigate lepton flavor violating (LFV) radiative processes and the relic abundance of neutralino dark matter in supersymmetric type-I seesaw model. We carefully derive threshold corrections to the flavor off-diagonal elements of slepton mass matrix and up-type Higgs mass squared and find that they can be large in the case of large $B_N^0$. We examine how the branching ratios of LFV radiative decays and the relic abundance of neutralino dark matter can be significantly affected by the large threshold corrections. Soft scalar mass squared parameter of up-type Higgs scalar is also affected by the threshold corrections. Since the higgsino mass depends on the mass parameter for up-type Higgs, the LFV processes and the relic abundance of the neutralino dark matter are correlated with each other. We show that there are parameter regions where the predictions of the relic abundance of neutralino dark matter are consistent with WMAP observation and the branching ratios of LFV radiative decays are predicted to be testable in future experiments. We find that the masses of scalar supersymmetric particles are not necessarily small so that the branching ratios of LFV decays can be testable in future experiment, which is distinctive feature of this scenario.

Probing Majorana neutrinos in rare K and D, D_s, B, B_c meson decays

We study lepton number violating decays of charged K, D, D_s, B and B_c mesons of the form M^+\to {M'}^-\ell^+\ell^+, induced by the existence of Majorana neutrinos. These processes provide information complementary to neutrinoless double nuclear beta decays, and are sensitive to neutrino masses and lepton mixing. We explore neutrino mass ranges m_N from below 1 eV to several hundred GeV. We find that in many cases the branching ratios are prohibitively small, however in the intermediate range m_π< m_N < m_{B_c}, in specific channels and for specific neutrino masses, the branching ratios can be at the reach of high luminosity experiments like those at the LHC-b and future Super flavor-factories, and can provide bounds on the lepton mixing parameters.

Threshold corrections to the radiative breaking of electroweak symmetry and neutralino dark matter in supersymmetric seesaw model

We study the radiative electroweak symmetry breaking and the relic abundance of neutralino dark matter in the supersymmetric type I seesaw model. In this model, there exist threshold corrections to Higgs bilinear terms coming from heavy singlet sneutrino loops, which make the soft supersymmetry breaking (SSB) mass for up-type Higgs shift at the seesaw scale and thus a minimization condition for the Higgs potential is affected. We show that the required fine-tuning between the Higgsino mass parameter mu and the SSB mass for up-type Higgs may be reduced at the electroweak scale, due to the threshold corrections. We also present how the parameter mu depends on the SSB B-parameter for heavy singlet sneutrinos. Since the property of neutralino dark matter is quite sensitive to the size of mu, we discuss how the relic abundance of neutralino dark matter is affected by the SSB B-parameter. Taking the SSB B-parameter of order of a few hundreds TeV, the required relic abundance of neutralino dark matter can be correctly achieved. In this case, dark matter is a mixture of bino and Higgsino, under the condition that gaugino masses are universal at the grand unification scale.

Doubly Coexisting Dark Matter Candidates in an Extended Seesaw Model

We examine how a scenario of coexisting two-particle dark mater can be realized in the extended seesaw model, which we have proposed previously to accommodate small neutrino masses and low scale leptogenesis with an introduction of singlet Majorana neutrino $S$ and singlet scalar $ϕ$. We now impose the discrete symmetry $Z_2 \times Z_2^{\prime}$ and introduce new renormalizable interaction terms with a new heavy singlet scalar particle $Φ$ so as for previously introduced $S$ and $ϕ$ to be doubly coexisting dark matter candidates. Depending on the mass spectrum of the two dark matter candidates, the annihilation process either $SS\longrightarrow ϕϕ$ or $ϕϕ\longrightarrow SS$ is of particular interest because the annihilation cross sections for the processes can be so large that the relic abundance of decaying particle should get lowered, which in turn makes the constraints on its parameter space relaxed, compared with the case of one and only one dark matter candidate. We discuss the implications of the dark matter detection through the scattering off the nucleus of the detecting material on our scenarios for dark matter candidates. We also study the implications for the search of invisible Higgs decay at LHC, which may serve as a probe of our scenario for dark matter.

$μ-τ$ Reflection Symmetry in in Lepton Mixing and Radiatively Generated Leptogenesis

We study a $μ- τ$ reflection symmetry in neutrino sector realized at the GUT scale in the context of the seesaw model. In our scenario, the exact $μ- τ$ reflection symmetry realized in the basis where the charged lepton and heavy Majorana mass matrices are diagonal, leads to vanishing lepton asymmetries. We find that, in the minimal supersymmetry extension of the seesaw model with appropriate values of $\tanβ$, the renormalization group (RG) evolution from the GUT scale to seesaw scale can induce a successful leptogenesis. It is shown that the right amount of the baryon asymmetries $η_B$ can be achieved via so-called resonant leptogenesis, which can be realized at rather low seesaw scale in our scenario, so that the well-known gravitino problem is safely avoided. In this work, we consider both flavor dependent and flavor independent leptogenesis, and demonstrate how they lead to different amounts of baryon asymmetries in detail.

Test of the Littlest Higgs model through the correlation among W boson, top quark and Higgs masses

Motivated by the recent precision measurements of the W boson mass and top quark mass, we test the Littlest Higgs model by confronting the prediction of M_W with the current and prospective measurements of M_W and M_t as well as through the correlation among M_W, M_t and Higgs mass. We argue that the current values and accuracy of M_W and M_t measurements tend to favor the Littlest Higgs model over the standard model, although the most recent electroweak data may appear to be consistent with the standard model prediction. In this analysis, the upper bound on the global SU(5) symmetry breaking scale turned out to be 26.3 TeV. We also discuss how the masses of the heavy gauge boson M_B in the Littlest Higgs model can be predicted from the constraints on the model parameters.

Phased Breaking of mu-tau symmetry and Leptogenesis

Non-vanishing U_{e3} has been theoretically related to a certain flavor symmetry breaking in the neutrino sector. We propose a scenario to break the mu-tau symmetry so as to accommodate the non-vanishing U_{e3}. Our scenario is constructed in the context of a seesaw model, and the mu-tau symmetry breaking is achieved by introducing a CP phase in the Dirac Yukawa matrix. We also show how the deviation of theta_{23} from the maximal mixing and non-vanishing U_{e3} depend on the CP phase. Neutrino mixings and the neutrino mass-squared differences are discussed, and the amplitude in neutrinoless double beta decay m_{ee} are also predicted. We found that a tiny breaking of the mu-tau symmetry due to mass splitting between two degenerate heavy Majorana neutrinos on top of the Dirac CP phase can lead to successful leptogenesis. We examine how leptogenesis can be related with low energy neutrino measurement, and show that our predictions for U_{e3} and m_{ee} can be constrained by the current observation of baryon asymmetry.

Minimal seesaw model with tri/bi-maximal mixing and leptogenesis

We examine minimal seesaw mechanism in which the masses of light neutrinos are described with tri/bi-maximal mixing in the basis where the charged-lepton Yukawa matrix and heavy Majorana neutrino mass matrix are diagonal. We search for all possible Dirac mass textures which contain at least one zero entry in $3 \times 2$ matrix and evaluate the corresponding lepton asymmetries. We present the baryon asymmetry in terms of a single low energy unknown, a Majorana CP phase to be clued from neutrinoless double beta decay.

CP violating supersymmetric contributions to the electroweak $ρ$ parameter

Effects of CP violation on the supersymmetric electroweak correction to the $ρ$ parameter are investigated. To avoid the EDM constraints, we require that arg$(μ)<10^{-2}$ and the non-universal trilinear couplings $A_f=(0,0,A_0)$ and also assume that gluinos are heavier than 400 GeV. The CP phase $ϕ_t=$ arg($A_0$) leads to large enhancement of the relative mass splittings between $\tilde{t}_2$ and $\tilde{b}_L(\tilde{t}_1)$, which in turn reduces the one-loop contribution of the stop and sbottom to $Δρ$. For small $\tan β$, such a CP violating effect is prominent. We also study how much the two-loop gluon and gluino contributions are affected by the CP phase. Possible contributions to the $ρ$ parameter arising from the Higgs sector with CP violation are discussed.

Bounds and Implications of Neutrino Magnetic Moments from Atmospheric Neutrino Data

The neutral current effects of the future high statistics atmospheric neutrino data can be used to distinguish the mechanisms between a $ν_μ$ oscillation to a tau neutrino or to a sterile neutrino. However, if neutrinos possess large diagonal and/or transition magnetic moments, the neutrino magnetic moments can contribute to the neutral current effects which can be studied by the single $π^0$ production events in the Super-K data. This effect should be included in the future analyses of atmospheric data in the determination of $ν_μ$ to tau or sterile neutrino oscillation.

Higgs Boson Mass Bounds in the Standard and Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with Four Generations

We study the question of distinguishability of the Higgs sector between the standard model with four generations(SM4) and the minimal supersymmetric standard model with four generations (MSSM4). We find that a gap exists between the SM4 and MSSM4 Higgs boson masses for a range of the fourth generation fermion mass considered in the analysis at a fixed top quark mass. We also compare the Higgs boson mass bounds in these models with those in the standard and the minimal supersymmetric standard models.

New Class of Quark Mass Matrix and Calculability of Flavor Mixing Matrix

We discuss a new general class of mass matrix ansatz that respects the fermion mass hierarchy and calculability of the flavor mixing matrix. This is a generalization and justification of the various specific forms of the mass matrix by successive breaking of the maximal permutation symmetry. By confronting the experimental data, a large class of the mass matrices are shown to survive, while certain specific cases are phenomenologically ruled out. Also the CP-violation turns out to be maximal, when the phase of the (1,2) element of the mass matrix is $π/2$.
