CDF $W$ boson mass and muon $g-2$ in type-X two-Higgs-doublet model with a Higgs-phobic light pseudoscalar

The recent measurement of the $W$ boson mass by the CDF collaboration adds an anomaly to the long-standing discrepancy in the muon anomalous magnetic moment, $Δa_μ$. Although type-X in the two-Higgs-doublet model provides an attractive solution to $Δa_μ$ through a light pseudoscalar $A$, the model confronts the exotic Higgs decays of $h\to AA$ and the lepton flavor universality data in the $τ$ and $Z$ decays. To save the model, we propose that the light pseudoscalar be Higgs-phobic. Through the random scanning over the entire parameter space, we perform a comparative study of the Higgs-phobic type-X with and without the CDF $m_W$ measurement, called the CDF and PDG cases respectively. Both cases can explain the two anomalies as well as all the other constraints but have significant differences in the finally allowed parameter space. For example, a small region with almost degenerate masses of new Higgs bosons around 100 GeV is allowed only in the PDG case. The cutoff scale of the model is also studied via the analysis of renormalization group equations, which reaches up to $10^5~{\rm GeV}$ ($10^7~{\rm GeV}$) in the CDF (PDG) case. Since the dominant decay modes are $A\to ττ$, $H \to Z A$, and $H^\pm\to W^\pm A$ in most of the viable parameter space, we propose the $4τ+VV'$ states as the golden discovery channel at the LHC.

Comprehensive study of the light charged Higgs boson in the type-I two-Higgs-doublet model

In the type-I two-Higgs-doublet model, existing theoretical and experimental constraints still permit the light charged Higgs boson with a mass below the top quark mass. We present a complete roadmap for the light charged Higgs boson at the LHC through the comprehensive phenomenology study, focusing on the normal scenario where the lighter \textit{CP}-even Higgs boson is the observed Higgs boson. In type-I, it is challenging to simultaneously accommodate the light mass of the charged Higgs boson and the constraints from theory, electroweak precision data, Higgs data, $b\to s γ$, and direct search bounds. Consequently, the parameter space is extremely curtailed, which predicts somewhat definite phenomenological signatures. We find that the mass of the pseudoscalar Higgs boson, $M_A$, is the most crucial factor in the phenomenology of the charged Higgs boson. If $M_A$ is light, the charged Higgs boson decays mainly into $A W^\pm$. When $M_A$ is above the $A W^\pm$ threshold, the dominant decay mode is into $ τ^\pm ν$. Over the whole viable parameter space, we study all the possible production and decay modes of charged Higgs bosons at the LHC, and suggest three efficient channels: (i) $pp \to H^+ H^-\to [τν] [τν]$; (ii) $pp \to HA/HH/AA \to H^\pm W^\mp H^\pm W^\mp \to [τν] [τν] W W$; (iii) $pp \to H^+ H^-\to [b \bar b W ] [b \bar b W ] $. Based on the sophisticated signal-background analyses including detector simulation, we showed that the significance of the first final state is large, that of the second one is marginal around three, but the third one suffers from huge $t\bar t$ related backgrounds.

Fermiophobic light Higgs boson in the type-I two-Higgs-doublet model

The null results in the new physics searches at the LHC do not exclude an intermediate-mass new particle if it is fermiophobic. Type-I in the two-Higgs-doublet model accommodates a fermiophobic light Higgs boson $h_{\rm f}$ if $α=π/2$. The heavier $CP$-even Higgs boson explains the observed Higgs boson at a mass of 125 GeV. We first obtain the still-valid parameter space satisfying the theoretical requirements, flavor-changing neutral currents in $B$ physics, the cutoff scale above 1 TeV, Higgs precision data, and the direct collider search bounds at high energy colliders. We also study the high energy scale behavior via the analysis of the renormalization group equations. An important result is that the fermiophobic type-I can maintain the stability of the scalar potential all the way up to the Planck scale if $m_{h_{\rm f}}$ is larger than half the observed Higgs boson mass. Since the parameter space is severely curtailed, especially for the high cutoff scale, the signal rates in the multi-photon states of new Higgs bosons at the LHC are well predicted. We suggest the processes of $4γ+VV'$ ($V^{(\prime)}=Z, W^\pm$) as the golden discovery channels for the model since they enjoy an almost background-free environment and substantial selection efficiencies for four photons.

Status of the two-Higgs-doublet model in light of the CDF $m_W$ measurement

The most recent $W$-boson mass measurement by the CDF collaboration with a substantially reduced uncertainty indicates a significant deviation from the standard model prediction, as large as $7σ$ if taken literally. Then the Peskin-Takeuchi parameters of $S$ and $T$ shift to larger values, which has profound consequences in searching for physics beyond the SM. In the framework of two-Higgs-doublet models, we study the effect of the new $W$-boson mass measurement on the parameter space. Combined with other constraints including theoretical requirements, flavor-changing neutral currents in $B$ physics, the cutoff scale above 1 TeV, Higgs precision data, and direct collider search limits from the LEP, Tevatron, and LHC experiments, we find upper bounds on the masses of the heavy Higgs bosons: $M_{H, A, H^\pm} \lesssim 1.1$ TeV in type I, II, X, and Y for the normal Higgs scenario; $M_{H^\pm} \lesssim 450 $ GeV and $M_{A} \lesssim 420 $ GeV in type I and X for the inverted scenario where the heavier $CP$-even Higgs boson is the observed one. Another important finding is that type II and type Y in the inverted scenario are completely excluded. Such unprecedented findings imply that the upcoming LHC run can readily close out a large portion of the still-available parameter space.

Disentangling new physics effects on non-resonant Higgs boson pair production from gluon fusion

There are two kinds of new physics effects on non-resonant di-Higgs process from gluon fusion, non-SM Higgs trilinear self-coupling $λ_{hhh}$ or new colored particles running in the loop. With the aim of disentangling different new physics contributions, we study their characteristics in the kinematic distributions. Assuming that the total cross section is observed to be about three times as large as the SM expectation, we consider the cases of $λ_{hhh}/λ_{hhh}^{\rm SM} =-0.5, 5.5$ as well as a new physics model with heavy vectorlike quarks in a type-II two Higgs double model, called the VLQ-2HDM. A reasonable benchmark point is suggested in the exact wrong-sign limit, where the opposite sign between the up-type VLQ and down-type VLQ couplings to the Higgs boson causes the cancellation of their contributions to the single-Higgs production from gluon fusion. Because of the threshold effects from the heavy VLQs in the loop, the VLQ-2HDM accommodates the bumps in the distributions of the invariant mass of the Higgs boson pair ($M_{hh}$) and the transverse momentum of a Higgs boson ($p_T^h$). The positions of two bumps are closely related as $ M_{hh} \simeq 2 M_{\rm VLQ}$ and $p_T^h \simeq M_{\rm VLQ}$. In addition, the bumps located at the heavy VLQ mass naturally lift up the $M_{hh}$ and $p_T^h$ distributions into high-mass and high-$p_T^h$ regions. On the other hand, the non-SM Higgs trilinear coupling cases have the distributions shift into low $ M_{hh}$ and $p_T^h$ regions. Therefore, the kinematic region with high $M_{hh}$ and high $p_T^h$ will be a smoking-gun signal for the VLQ-2HDM. Full HL-LHC simulations for the di-Higgs signals are also performed, confirming that the $b \bar{b} b \bar{b}$ final state can distinguish the VLQ-2HDM.

Higgs potential and hidden light Higgs scenario in two Higgs doublet models

In two Higgs doublet models (2HDM), there exists an interesting possibility, the hidden light Higgs scenario, that the discovered SM-like Higgs boson is the heavier \textit{CP}-even Higgs boson $H^0$ and the lighter \textit{CP}-even $h^0$ has not been observed yet in any experiment. We study the current status of this scenario in Types I, II, X, and Y, through the scans of the 2HDM parameters with all relevant theoretical and experimental constraints. We employ not only the most up-to-date Higgs signal strength measurements with the feed-down effects, but also all the available LHC exclusion limits from heavy Higgs searches. Adjusting the heavier $H^0$ to the 125 GeV state while hiding the lighter $h^0$ from the LEP Higgs search prohibits the extreme decoupling limit: there exist upper bounds on the masses of the pseudoscalar $A^0$ and the charged Higgs $H^\pm$ below about 600 GeV. In addition, the $Z_2$ symmetry is shown to be a good approximate symmetry since the soft $Z_2$ symmetry breaking parameter $m_{12}^2$ should be less than about (45 GeV)$^2$. Most interestingly, a few parameters in the Higgs potential and the related Higgs triple and quartic couplings are shown to be meaningfully constrained by the current data. The double Higgs-strahlung process at an $e^+ e^-$ collider is also studied.

Interference effect on heavy Higgs resonance signal in γγand ZZ channels

The resonance-continuum interference is usually neglected when the width of a resonance is small compared to the resonance mass. We re-examine this standard by studying the interference effects in high-resolution decay channels, $γγ$ and $ZZ$, of the heavy Higgs boson $H^0$ in nearly aligned two-Higgs-doublet models. For the $H^0$ with a sub-percent width-to-mass ratio, we find that, in the parameter space where the LHC 14 TeV $ZZ$ resonance search can be sensitive, the interference effects can modify the $ZZ$ signal rate by ${\cal O}(10)\%$ and the exclusion reach by ${\cal O}(10)$ GeV. In other parameter space where the $ZZ$ or $γγ$ signal rate is smaller, the LHC 14 TeV reach is absent, but a resonance shape can be much more dramatically changed. In particular, the $γγ$ signal rate can change by ${\cal O}(100)\%$. Relevant to such parameter space, we suggest variables that can characterize a general resonance shape. We also illustrate the relevance of the width on the interference by adding non-standard decay modes of the heavy Higgs boson.

Top-phobic heavy Higgs boson as the 750 GeV diphoton resonance

A hint of a new resonance at a mass of 750\,GeV has been observed in the diphoton channel of LHC Run 2 at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV. The signal rate is too large to interpret it as a new Higgs boson in the context of weakly-coupled renormalizable models. One way is to reduce its total decay rate, which is possible if the CP-even heavy Higgs boson $H^0$ in the aligned two Higgs doublet model becomes top-phobic. To ensure sufficient gluon fusion production, we introduce vector-like quarks (VLQ). The Higgs precision data as well as the exclusion limits from no excesses in other 8 TeV LHC searches of $Zγ$, $b\bar{b}$, $τ^+τ^-$, and $jj$ channels are simultaneously included. In Type I, top-phobic $H^0$ cannot explain the 750\,GeV diphoton signal and the Higgs precision data simultaneously since the universal Yukawa couplings of the up-type and down-type VLQs always make more contribution to $h^0$ than to $H^0$. In Type II, small Yukawa coupling of the up-type VLQ but sizable Yukawa coupling for the down-type VLQ is shown to explain the signal while satisfying other LHC exclusion limits.

Dip or nothingness of a Higgs resonance from the interference with a complex phase

We show that new resonance shapes -- a pure dip, nothingness and an enhanced pure peak -- can be produced from the interference between resonance and continuum with a relative phase. Production conditions of those new shapes are derived based on a general parameterization of the interference. The narrow width approximation is modified to work with the non-zero imaginary part of interference, and the correction factor can characterize the resonance shape. We demonstrate that the new resonance shapes of heavy Higgs bosons, $H^0$ and $A^0$ in the Type II aligned two Higgs doublet model, generally show up in $gg \to H^0/A^0 \to t\bar{t}$ as well as $b\bar{b}$ and $γγ$ channels. The pure $A^0$ resonance dip in the $t\bar{t}$ channel is a particularly interesting signal as it can be probed well by the current search techniques that do not even take into account interferences; the high-luminosity LHC 14 TeV can perhaps probe a large part of its parameter space.

How Resonance-Continuum Interference Changes 750 GeV Diphoton Excess: Signal Enhancement and Peak Shift

The new scalar resonance contribution to the 750 GeV diphoton excess observed at the LHC 13 TeV necessarily interferes with the continuum background in the $gg\to γγ$. The interference has two considerable effects: (1) enhancing or suppressing diphoton signal rate due to the imaginary-part interference and (2) distorting resonance shape due to the real-part interference. From the best-fit study of two benchmark models (two Higgs doublets with $\sim$50 GeV widths and a singlet scalar with 5 GeV width, both extended with vector-like fermions), we find that the resonance contribution to the 750 GeV excess can be enhanced by a factor of 2(1.6) for 3(6) fb signal rate and the 68%(95%) CL best-fit mass range can shift by 1-4 (any ${\cal O}$(1)) GeV. If the best-fit excess rate decreases with future data, the interference effects will become more significant. The inevitable interferences can also provide a consistency check of a resonance hypothesis, whether or not future precision shape measurements confirm a Breit-Wigner shape or discover interesting deviations.

Determining the Dark Matter Particle Mass through Antler Topology Processes at Lepton Colliders

We study the kinematic cusps and endpoints of processes with the "antler topology" as a way to measure the masses of the parity-odd missing particle and the intermediate parent at a high energy lepton collider. The fixed center of mass energy at a lepton collider makes many new physics processes suitable for the study of the antler decay topology. It also provides new kinematic observables with cusp structures, optimal for the missing mass determination. We also study realistic effects on these observables, including initial state radiation, beamstrahlung, acceptance cuts, and detector resolution. We find that the new observables, such as the reconstructed invariant mass of invisible particles and the summed energy of the observable final state particles, appear to be more stable than the commonly considered energy endpoints against realistic factors and are very efficient at measuring the missing particle mass. For the sake of illustration, we study smuon pair production and chargino pair production within the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model. We adopt the log-likelihood method to optimize the analysis. We find that at the 500 GeV ILC, a precision of approximately 0.5 GeV can be achieved in the case of smuon production with a leptonic final state, and approximately 2 GeV in the case of chargino production with a hadronic final state.

Gigantic diphoton rate of heavy Higgs bosons in the aligned two Higgs doublet models with small $\tanβ$

We study the implications of the LHC heavy neutral Higgs search data on the aligned two Higgs doublet model with softly broken $Z_2$ symmetry. When $\tanβ$ is small, the gluon fusion production of the heavy CP-even scalar $H^0$ or the CP-odd scalar $A^0$ becomes large enough to constrain the model by the current $γγ$, $τ^+τ^-$, and $t\bar{t}$ data. By reinvestigating this small $\tanβ$ region, we find that the indirect constraints like $Δρ$, $b\to s γ$, $ΔM_{B_d}$, $R_b$, $ε_K$, and the perturbativity of running top Yukawa coupling are rather weak to be $\tanβ> 0.5$. The current heavy Higgs search results are shown to put more significant bounds. If $m_H \simeq m_A$, the $t\bar{t}$ mode excludes $\tanβ< 1.5$ for $m_{H,A}=500-600\,$GeV in all four types, and the $γγ$ and $τ^+τ^-$ modes exclude $\tanβ< 1-3$ ($\tanβ< 3-10$) for $m_{H,A}=120-340\,$GeV in Type I, II, and Y (Type X).

Two Higgs doublet models for the LHC Higgs boson data at $\sqrt{s}=$ 7 and 8 TeV

Updated LHC data on the new 126 GeV boson during the 7 and 8 TeV runnings strengthen the standard model Higgs boson interpretation further. Through the global $χ^2$ analysis, we investigate whether the new particle could be one of the scalar particles in two Higgs doublet models. Four types (Type I, II, X and Y) are comprehensively studied. Taking the recent analysis on the spin-parity of the new boson, we consider two scenarios: the new boson is either the light CP-even one ($h^0$) or the heavy CP-even one ($H^0$). It is found that both scenarios are consistent with the new data, not only in the parameter regions near the decoupling limit but also in other regions far from the decoupling limit. In addition, the current data are compatible with the possibility that the light Higgs boson $h^0$ is hidden in the mass window of 90-100 GeV. The diphoton or $ττ$ channel can provide a probe of this possibility by the enhanced signal rates.

Using the Higgs boson to probe the littlest Higgs model with T-parity through $Z_H W_H$ production at the LHC

In the littlest Higgs model with T-parity, the production cross section of the T-odd heavy gauge boson pair $Z_H W_H$ is quite sizable at the LHC. In addition, both the $W_H$ and $Z_H$ bosons have almost exclusively one decay channel into $W A_H$ and $H A_H$ respectively, where the dark matter candidate $A_H$ yields a large missing energy signal. Upon the discovery of the Higgs boson at 125 GeV, we study the discovery sensitivity of the final state $ pp \to b\bar{b} l+\rlap{\,/}{E}_T$ to probe the model at the LHC. We find that the standard model backgrounds are manageable by applying suitable kinematic cuts. The LHC running at $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV with a 100/fb total luminosity is sensitive to the model if the symmetry breaking scale $f$ is below about 850 GeV.

Comprehensive study of two Higgs doublet model in light of the new boson with mass around 125 GeV

The recent discovery of a new boson of mass roughly 125 GeV has been reported by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations. Although its signals in various decay modes resemble those of the standard model (SM) Higgs boson, observed are the combinations of entangled information about the production, decay rates and total decay width of the new boson. In addition, some decay channels show non-negligible deviation from the SM expectation, such as the $2σ$ excess in the diphoton channel. In the four types (I, II, X and Y) of two Higgs doublet models, we perform the global $χ^2$ fit in three scenarios: (i) the new boson is the light CP-even Higgs boson $h^0$; (ii) it is the heavy CP-even Higgs boson $H^0$; (iii) the signals are from degenerate $h^0$ and the pseudoscalar $A^0$. Considering other phenomenological constraints such as flavor physics, electroweak precision data, and the LEP search for the Higgs boson, we find that the the first scenarios in Type II and Type Y models actually provide better or similarly good fit to the data than the SM. All the other models are excluded at 95% C.L..

Direct bound on the minimal Universal Extra Dimension model from the $t\bar{t}$ resonance search at the Tevatron

In the minimal Universal Extra Dimension (mUED) model, the second Kaluza-Klein (KK) gluon $g^{(2)}$ has loop-induced vertices with the standard model quarks, mediated by the first KK modes of the quark and the gluon/Higgs boson. With a top quark pair, this vertex is enhanced by the cooperation of the strong coupling of a gluon and the large Yukawa coupling of a top quark, leading to substantial branching ratio of $Br(g^{(2)} \to t \bar{t}) \approx 7%-8%$. As the $g^{(2)}$ coupling with two gluons appears via dimension-6 operator, $q\bar{q}\to g^{(2)}\to t\bar{t}$ is the golden mode for the mUED model. Hence the best channel is the $t\bar{t}$ resonance search in $p\bar{p}$ collisions. The recent Tevatron data at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV with an integrated luminosity of 8.7 fb$^{-1}$ are shown to give the first direct bound on the $g^{(2)}$ mass above 800 GeV. The implication and future prospect at the LHC are discussed also.

Kinematic Cusps With Two Missing Particles I: Antler Decay Topology

The kinematics of a final state system with two invisible particles and two visible particles can develop cusped peak structures. This happens when the system has a fixed invariant mass (such as from a narrow resonant particle decay or with a fixed collision c.m. energy) and undergoes decays of two on-shell intermediate particles. Focusing on the "antler decay topology", we derive general analytic expressions for the invariant mass distribution and the kinematic cusp position. The sharp cusp peaks and the endpoint positions can help to determine the masses of the missing particles and the intermediate particles. We also consider transverse momentum variables and angular variables. In various distributions the kinematic cusp peaks are present and pronounced. We also study the effects on such kinematic cusp structures from realistic considerations including finite decay widths, the longitudinal boost of the system, and spin correlations.

Kinematic Cusps with Two Missing Particles II: Cascade Decay Topology

Three-step cascade decays into two invisible particles and two visible particles via two intermediate on-shell particles develop cusped peak structures in several kinematic distributions. We study the basic properties of the cusps and endpoints in various distributions and demonstrate that the masses of the missing particles and the intermediate particles can be determined by the cusp and endpoint positions. Effects from realistic considerations such as finite decay widths, longitudinal boost of the parent particle, and spin correlations are shown to be under control for the processes illustrated.

Probing axino LSP from diphotons events with large missing transverse energy

In a supersymmetry model with an axino as the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) and a Bino as the next LSP (NLSP), supersymmetry particles produced in pair at a high energy collider end up with including two Binos, followed by each Bino's decay into a photon and an axino. Final states are diphoton with large missing energy. We have comprehensively studied the implication of $γγ+$MET data from the ALEPH, CDF II, and recent ATLAS and CMS experiments. No excess over the standard model backgrounds can be explained in this model if the NLSP Bino decays outside the detector, which happens when the axino decay constant $f_a$ is large enough. The ALEPH and CDF II data put a very strong bound on $f_a$ for light Bino case with $m_{\tilde{B}} < 150$ GeV: the narrow hadronic axion window around $f_a \sim 10^6$ GeV is completely closed. In the case where the gluino mass is smaller than about 776 GeV, the recent ATLAS data limit $f_a > 10^5$ GeV for the Bino mass below 700 GeV. This is already stronger than the previous laboratory bounds.

Baryonic Z' Explanation for the CDF Wjj Excess

The latest CDF anomaly, the excess of dijet events in the invariant-mass window 120-160 GeV in associated production with a $W$ boson, can be explained by a baryonic $Z'$ model in which the $Z'$ boson has negligible couplings to leptons. Although this $Z'$ model is hardly subject to the Drell-Yan constraint from Tevatron, it is constrained by the dijet data from UA2 ($\sqrt{s} = 630$ GeV), and the precision measurements at LEP through the mixing with the SM $Z$ boson. We show that under these constraints this model can still explain the excess in the M_{jj} \sim 120 - 160 GeV window, as well as the claimed cross section $σ(W Z') \sim 4$ pb. Implications at the Tevatron would be the associated production of $γZ',\; Z Z'$, and $Z'Z'$ with the $Z' \to jj$. We show that with tightened jet cuts and improved systematic uncertainties both $γZ' \to γjj$ and $Z Z' \to \ell^+ \ell^- j j$ channels could be useful to probe this model at the Tevatron.

Implications on the mUED model from the early LHC data on $\ell+\met$ signal

Recently the ATLAS and CMS collaborations reported their search for a new heavy gauge boson $W'$ with one lepton plus missing transverse momentum. We find that $W^{(2)}$, the second Kaluza-Kelin (KK) state of the $W$ boson in the minimal Universal Extra Dimension (mUED) model, can be a good candidate for this signal, as its branching ratio into $\ellν$ is sizable. Moreover, nearly degenerate KK mass spectra in the mUED model yield generically very soft SM particle accompanying $W^{(2)}$ from the subsequent decays of the second KK quarks and gluons. In a hadron collider, this indirect $W^{(2)}$ production is difficult to distinguish from the $W^{(2)}$ single production. The involved strong interactions make it more important than the single production. The early LHC data on $\ell+\met$ signal for 1.1 fb$^{-1}$ integrated luminosity is shown insufficient to limit our model even with significant indirect production of $W^{(2)}$. However, the results show that the present LHC 5.6 fb$^{-1}$ data can cover most of the reasonable parameter space of the mUED model.

The B ---> π K puzzle and the Bulk Randall-Sundurm model

The recent measurements of the direct CP asymmetries ($A_{CP}$) in the penguin-dominated $B\to K π$ decays show some discrepancy from the standard model (SM) prediction. While $A_{CP}$ of $B^+ \to π^0 K^+$ and that of $B^0 \to π^- K^+$ in the naive estimate of the SM are expected to have very similar values, their experimental data are of the opposite sign and different magnitudes. We study the effects of the custodial bulk Randall-Sundrum model on this $A_{CP}$. In this model, the misalignment of the five-dimensional (5D) Yukawa interactions to the 5D bulk gauge interactions in flavor space leads to tree-level flavor-changing neutral current by the Kaluza-Klein gauge bosons. In a large portion of the parameter space of this model, the observed nonzero $A_{CP}(B^+ \to π^0 K^+) - A_{CP}(B^0 \to π^- K^+)$ can be explained only with low Kaluza-Klein mass scale $M_{KK}$ around 1 TeV. Rather extreme parameters is required to explain it with $M_{KK}\simeq 3\tev$. The new contributions to well-measured branching ratios of $B \to K π$ decays are also shown to be suppressed.

The Golden Mode for a Baryonic $Z'$ Boson at Hadronic Colliders: pp/ppbar -> WZ' -> l nu b b-bar

Associated production of a baryonic Z' boson with the W boson can account for the excess in Wjj production observed by the CDF collaboration at the Tevatron. We analyze other possible channels of this Z' at the Tevatron and at the LHC, including γZ' and Z Z' with the Z' -> jj. We show that the chances of confirming this baryonic Z' is better at the Tevatron than at the LHC because of the faster growing backgrounds at the LHC. Unfortunately the current systematic uncertainties of the order of 10% cannot yield any significant excess in both γZ' and Z Z' channels at the Tevatron and also at the LHC. Nevertheless the search using the b\bar b decay mode of Z' is much more feasible at the LHC, provided that the branching ratio B(Z' -> b\bar b) > 0.1. In particular, the W Z' -> l νb\bar b mode has a signal-to-background ratio larger than 1. Even with 1 fb^{-1} luminosity at the LHC it can lead to a high significance level. The WZ' -> l νb \bar b and γZ' -> γb \bar b are also highly observable at the Tevatron.

The second Kaluza-Klein neutral Higgs bosons in the minimal Universal Extra Dimension model

Loop-induced decay of a neutral Higgs boson into a pair of gluons or photons has great implications for the Higgs discovery at the LHC. If the Higgs boson is heavy with mass above $\sim 500\gev$, however, these radiative branching ratios are very suppressed in the standard model (SM), as the new decay channels are kinematically open. We note that these radiative decays can be sizable for the heavy CP-odd second Kaluza-Klein (KK) mode of the Higgs boson, $χ^\tw$, in the minimal universal extra dimension model: highly degenerate mass spectrum of the theory prohibits kinematically the dominant KK-number-conserving decays into the first KK modes of the $W$, $Z$ and top quark. We find that the CP-even decay of $h^{(2)} \to g g$ is absent at one-loop level since $h^{(2)}$ couples with different mass eigenstates of $t_{1,2}^\on$ while a gluon does with the same mass eigenstates. The $h^\tw$ production at the LHC is very suppressed. On the contrary, the process $ gg \to χ^\tw \to γγ$ in an optimal scenario can be observed with manageable SM backgrounds at the LHC.

Collider signatures of the Gauge-Higgs Dark Matter

A recently proposed SO(5)xU(1) gauge-Higgs unification model in the Randall-Sundrum warped space contains a very interesting dark matter candidate, the Higgs boson. As a part of the fifth component of a five-dimensional gauge field, the four-dimensional neutral Higgs boson has odd H parity while all the other standard model particles have even parity to all orders in perturbation theory. Based on H-parity conserving WWHH and ZZHH vertices, we investigate the collider signatures of Higgs dark matter production associated with a SM W or Z gauge boson at the LHC and the ILC. The final state consists of a W or a Z boson with large missing energy. We found that the level of the signal cross section is quite hopeless at the LHC while we may be able to identify it at the ILC with polarized electron beams.

Cosmic positron and antiproton constraints on the gauge-Higgs Dark Matter

We calculate the cosmic ray positron and antiproton spectra of a gauge-Higgs dark matter candidate in a warped five-dimensional $SO(5) \times U(1)$ gauge-Higgs unification model. The stability of the gauge-Higgs boson is guaranteed by the H parity under which only the Higgs boson is odd at low energy. The 4-point vertices of HHW^+W^- and HHZZ, allowed by H parity conservation, have the same magnitude as in the standard model, which yields efficient annihilation rate for $m_H > m_W$. The most dominant annihilation channel is $H H \to W^+ W^-$ followed by the subsequent decays of the $W$ bosons into positrons or quarks, which undergo fragmentation into antiproton. Comparing with the observed positron and antiproton spectra with the PAMALA and Fermi/LAT, we found that the Higgs boson mass cannot be larger than 90 GeV, in order not to overrun the observations. Together with the constraint on not overclosing the Universe, the valid range of the dark matter mass is restricted to 70-90 GeV.

Kinematic Cusps: Determining the Missing Particle Mass at Colliders

In many extensions of the SM, neutral massive stable particles (dark matter candidates) are produced at colliders in pairs due to an exact symmetry called a "parity". These particles escape detection, rendering their mass measurement difficult. In the pair production of such particles via a specific ("antler") decay topology, kinematic cusp structures are present in the invariant mass and angular distributions of the observable particles. Together with the end-points, such cusps can be used to measure the missing particle mass and the intermediate particle mass in the decay chain. Our simulation of a benchmark scenario in a Z' supersymmetric model shows that the cusp feature survives under the consideration of detector simulation and the standard model backgrounds. This technique for determining missing particle masses should be invaluable in the search for new physics at the LHC and future lepton colliders.

The modest addition of the dimension-5 term lambda(H_u.H_d)^2/M to the superpotential of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) originated from physics beyond the MSSM (BMSSM) has a significant impact on the scenario of the Higgsino-dominated neutralino state being the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). It increases the mass difference between the LSP and the lighter chargino as well as that between the LSP and the second-lightest neutralino. This enhances the LHC discovery potential of the chargino and neutralino decays, producing more energetic charged leptons or pions than the decays without the BMSSM corrections. Furthermore, the coannihilation between the lighter chargino or second-lightest neutralino and the LSP is reduced substantially such that the LSP mass does not have to be very heavy. Consequently, an almost pure Higgsino LSP with its mass ~100 GeV in the BMSSM can account for all the relic density of cold dark matter in the Universe unless tan(beta) is too large.

Constraint of B_{d,s}-bar{B}_{d,s} mixing on warped extra-dimension model

Recent CDF measurement of the Bs-Bs oscillation frequency, at the Tevatron imposes significant constraint on various models for new physics. A warped extra-dimension model with custodial isospin symmetry accommodates the Bd-Bd mixing at tree level mainly through the Kaluza-Klein gluons. This is due to the misalignment between the bulk gauge eigenstates and the localized Yukawa eigenstates of the bulk fermions. We adopt the universal 5D Yukawa coupling model where all Yukawa couplings are of order one. The SM fermion mass spectra and mixings are controlled by the bulk Dirac mass parameters. With two versions of the hadronic parameter values, we investigate the implication of the observed BB mixings on this model. The CP-violating effects on the Bd system is shown to provide very strong constraint: The first Kaluza-Klein mass of a gluon has its lower bound about 3.7 TeV with 1 sigma uncertainty.

Associated production of a single heavy T-quark in the littlest and simplest little Higgs models

The colored SU(2)-singlet heavy T-quark is one of the most crucial ingredients in little Higgs models, which is introduced to cancel the largest contribution of the SM top quark to the Higgs boson mass at one-loop level. In two representative little Higgs models, the littlest Higgs model and the SU(3) simplest Higgs model, we comprehensively study the single heavy T-quark production at Large Hadron Collider (LHC). After presenting the possibility of relatively light (~500 GeV) T-quark in the simplest little Higgs model, we consider all the relevant processes, the 2->2 process of qb->q'T, the 2->3 process of qg->q'Tb, the s-channel process of q bar(q)'->T bar{b}, and the gluon fusion process of gg->T bar{t}. We found that the 2->3 process can be quite important, as its cross section is about 30% of the 2->2 one and it is dominant in high p_T distributions. The s-channel and the gluon fusion processes also show distinctive features in spite of their suppressed cross sections. In the gluon fusion process of the simplest little Higgs model, for example, the pseudo-scalar contribution is rather dominant over the Higgs contribution for relatively light M_T.

A Phenomenological Study on Lepton Mass Matrix Textures

The three active light neutrinos are used to explain the neutrino oscillations. The inherently bi-large mixing neutrino mass matrix and the Fritzsch type, bi-small mixing charged lepton mass matrix are assumed. By requiring the maximal ν_μ-ν_τmixing for the atmospheric neutrino problem and the mass-squared difference approperiate for the almost maximal mixing solution to the solar neutrino problem, the following quantities are predicted: the ν_e-ν_μmixing, V_{e3}, CP violation in neutrino oscillations, and the effective electron-neutrino mass relevant to neutrinoless double beta decays.
