Elastic $α$-$^{12}$C scattering at low energies with the resonant $2_2^+$ and $2_3^+$ states of $^{16}$O

The elastic $α$-$^{12}$C scattering for $l=2$ at low energies is studied in an effective Lagrangian approach. We explicitly include two resonant $2_2^+$ and $2_3^+$ states of $^{16}$O in the scattering amplitudes and construct an $S$ matrix assuming that three amplitudes, the non-resonant part of the amplitude which has the sub-threshold $2_1^+$ state of $^{16}$O and those of the two resonant states, are represented by the summation of corresponding parts of the phase shift. Then, we fit the parameters in the $S$ matrix to the phase shift data by imposing three conditions at very low energies where the phase shift data are not available. By using the fitted parameters, we calculate the asymptotic normalization coefficients (ANC) of the $2_1^+$ state of $^{16}$O and find that the previously reported small and large values of the ANC can be reproduced depending on the imposed conditions, but we obtain large error bars for the large ANC values which are reported from the $α$ transfer reactions.

Elastic $α$-$^{12}$C scattering at low energies with the sharp resonant $0_3^+$ state of $^{16}$O

An inclusion of sharp resonant $0_3^+$ state of $^{16}$O and first excited $2_1^+$ state of $^{12}$C in a study of $s$-wave elastic $α$-$^{12}$C scattering at low energies is investigated in an effective Lagrangian approach. The elastic scattering amplitude is parted into two; one is for the sharp resonant $0_3^+$ state of $^{16}$O parameterized by Breit-Wigner formula, and the other is for a non-resonant part of the amplitude parameterized by effective range expansion. In the non-resonant part of the amplitude, a contribution from the $2_1^+$ state of $^{12}$C is included. We discuss a large correlation between a coupling for the $2_1^+$ state of $^{12}$C and an effective range parameter $Q_0$ as well as a necessity of inclusion of a vertex correction for the initial and final $α$-$^{12}$C states. After fixing parameters appearing in the amplitudes by using experimental data, we calculate asymptotic normalization coefficients for ground $0_1^+$ state and first excited $0_2^+$ state of $^{16}$O and compare them to previous results found in literature.

Neutrino-Deuteron Reactions at Solar Neutrino Energies in Pionless Effective Field Theory with Dibaryon Fields

We study breakup of the deuteron induced by neutrinos in the neutral $νd\to νnp$, $\barν d\to \barν np$ and the charged $\barν d\to e^+ n n$, $νd\to e^- pp$ processes. Pionless effective field theory with dibaryon fields is used to calculate the total cross sections for neutrino energies $E_ν$ from threshold to 20 MeV. Amplitudes are expanded up to next-to-leading order, and the partial wave is truncated at $P$-waves. The Coulomb interaction between two protons is included nonperturbatively in the reaction amplitudes, and an analytic expression of the amplitudes is obtained. The contribution of the next-to-leading order to the total cross section is in the range of 5.2$-$9.9\% in magnitude, and that of the $P$-wave is 2.4$-$2.8\% at $E_ν= 20$ MeV. Uncertainty arising from an axial isovector low-energy constant is estimated to be on the order of 1\%.

Hypernuclei in Halo/Cluster Effective Field Theory

The light double $Λ$ hypernuclei, ${}_{ΛΛ}^{\ \ 4}$H and ${}_{ΛΛ}^{\ \ 6}$He, are studied as three-body $ΛΛd$ and $ΛΛα$ cluster systems in halo/cluster effective field theory at leading order. We find that the $ΛΛd$ system in spin-0 channel does not exhibit a limit cycle whereas the $ΛΛd$ system in spin-1 channel and the $ΛΛα$ system in spin-0 channel do. The limit cycle is associated with the formation of bound states, known as Efimov states, in the unitary limit. For the $ΛΛd$ system in the spin-0 channel we estimate the scattering length $a_0$ for $S$-wave $Λ$ hyperon-hypertriton scattering as $a_0=16.0\pm 3.0$ fm. We also discuss that studying the cutoff dependences in the $ΛΛd$ and $ΛΛα$ systems, the bound state of ${}_{ΛΛ}^{\ \ 4}$H is not an Efimov state but formed due to a high energy mechanism whereas that of ${}_{ΛΛ}^{\ \ 6}$He may be regarded as an Efimov state.

Investigation of the $nnΛ$ bound state in pionless effective theory

The possibility of an $nnΛ$ bound state is investigated in the framework of pionless effective field theory at leading order. A system of coupled integral equations are constructed in the spin-isospin basis, of which numerical solutions are investigated. In particular, we make use of the limit cycle behavior, i.e., cyclic singularities of coupled integral equations of the system, which would be associated with the formation of a three-body bound state, so-called the Efimov state, in the unitary limit. Furthermore, we find that, when the sharp momentum cutoff introduced in the integral equations is taken significantly larger than the hard scale of the effective theory, the coupling of a three-body contact interaction becomes cyclically singular indicating the onset of Efimov-like bound state formation. However, the paucity of empirical information to determine the parameters of the theory precludes a definitive conclusion on the existence of such a bound state. As a simple test of the feasibility of the $nnΛ$ bound system in nature, we explore the cutoff dependence of the theory, and uncertainties of the present study are discussed as well.

${}_{ΛΛ}^{4}$H in halo effective field theory

The ${}_{ΛΛ}^{\ \ 4}$H bound state and the $S$-wave hypertriton(${}_Λ^{ \, 3}$H)-$Λ$ scattering in spin singlet and triplet channels below the hypertriton breakup momentum scale are studied in halo/cluster effective field theory at leading order by treating the ${}_{ΛΛ}^{\ \ 4}$H system as a three-cluster ($Λ$-$Λ$-deuteron) system. In the spin singlet channel, the amplitude is insensitive to the cutoff parameter $Λ_c$ introduced in the integral equation, and we find that there is no bound state. In this case, the scattering length of the hypertriton-$Λ$ scattering is found to be $a_0^{} = 16.0\pm 3.0$ fm. In the spin triplet channel, however, the amplitude obtained by the coupled integral equations is sensitive to $Λ_c$, and we introduce the three-body contact interaction $g_1^{} (Λ_c)$. After phenomenologically fixing $g_1^{} (Λ_c)$, we find that the correlation between the two-$Λ$ separation energy $B_{ΛΛ}$ from the $_{ΛΛ}^{\ \ 4}$H bound state and the scattering length $a_{ΛΛ}^{}$ of the $S$-wave $Λ$-$Λ$ scattering is significantly sensitive to the value of $Λ_c$.

${}^{\ \ \ 6}_{ΛΛ} He$ in cluster effective field theory

The hypernucleus $\nuclide[6][ΛΛ]{He}$ is studied as a three-body ($ΛΛα$) cluster system in cluster effective field theory at leading order. We find that the three-body contact interaction exhibits the limit cycle when the cutoff in the integral equations is sent to the asymptotic limit, and thus it should be promoted to leading order. We also derive a determination equation of the limit cycle which reproduces the numerically obtained limit cycle. We then study the correlations between the double $Λ$ separation energy $B_{ΛΛ}^{}$ of $\nuclide[6][ΛΛ]{He}$ and the scattering length $a_{ΛΛ}^{}$ of the $S$-wave $ΛΛ$ scattering. The role of the scale in this approach is also discussed.

The Born series for $S$-wave quartet $nd$ scattering at small cutoff values

Perturbative expansions, the Born series, of the scattering length and the amplitude of $S$-wave neutron-deuteron scattering for spin quartet channel below deuteron breakup threshold are studied in pionless effective field theory at small cutoff values. A three-body contact interaction is introduced when the integral equation is solved using the small cutoffs. After renormalizing the three-body interaction by using the scattering length, we expand the integral equation as the ordinary and inverted Born series. We find that the scattering length and the phase shift are considerably well reproduced with a few terms of the inverted Born series at relatively large cutoff values, $Λ\simeq 100$ MeV.

Effective range corrections from effective field theory with di-baryon fields and perturbative pions

Contributions of perturbative pions around a non-trivial fixed point are studied by utilizing di-baryon fields. We calculate ${}^1S_0$ and ${}^3S_1$ phase shifts for the $np$ scattering at low energies up to one-pion-exchange contributions. We also calculate effective range parameters, $v_2$, $v_3$ and $v_4$ in the higher order of the effective range expansion, and obtain corrections of the effective range to the expressions previously reported by Cohen and Hansen. After the scattering length and the effective range are renormalized, we study the role of renormailzation scale parameter $μ$ and discuss the range of validity of the theory.

Effective field theory of 3He

3He and the triton are studied as three-body bound states in the effective field theory without pions. We study 3He using the set of integral equations developed by Kok et al. which includes the full off-shell T-matrix for the Coulomb interaction between the protons. To leading order, the theory contains: two-body contact interactions whose renormalized strengths are set by the NN scattering lengths, the Coulomb potential, and a three-body contact interaction. We solve the three coupled integral equations with a sharp momentum cutoff, Lambda, and find that a three-body interaction is required in 3He at leading order, as in the triton. It also exhibits the same limit-cycle behavior as a function of Lambda, showing that the Efimov effect remains in the presence of the Coulomb interaction. We also obtain the difference between the strengths of the three-body forces in 3He and the triton.

The D coefficient in neutron beta decay in effective field theory

In this paper we explore the time-reversal-odd triple-correlation coefficient in neutron beta decay, the so-called "D coefficient", using heavy-baryon effective field theory with photon degrees of freedom. We find that this framework allows us to reproduce the known results for the contribution which comes from final-state interactions, and also to discuss higher-order corrections. In particular we are able to show that in the heavy-baryon limit all electromagnetic contributions vanish. By calculating the leading correction to the known result, we give a final expression which is accurate to better than 1%. Hence we extend downwards the range over which the D coefficient could be used to explore time-violation from new physics.

Renormalization group analysis of nuclear current operators

A Wilsonian renormalization group (WRG) equation for nuclear current operators in two-nucleon systems is derived. Nuclear current operators relevant to low-energy Gamow-Teller transitions are analyzed using the WRG equation. We employ the axial two-body current operators from phenomenological models and heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory, which are quite different from one another in describing small scale physics. After reducing the model space of the operators using the WRG equation, we find that there still remains a significant model dependence at Λ= 200 MeV, where Λis the sharp cutoff specifying the size of the model space. A model independent effective current operator is found at a rather small cutoff value, Λ= 70 MeV. By simulating the effective current operator at Λ=70 MeV, we obtain a current operator based on a pionless theory, thereby arguing an equivalence relation between nuclear current operators of phenomenological models and those of effective field theories.
