Whittaker modules and representations of finite $W$-algebras of queer Lie superalgebras

We study various categories of Whittaker modules over the queer Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak q(n)$. We formulate standard Whittaker modules and reduce the problem of composition factors of these standard Whittaker modules to that of Verma modules in the BGG categories $\mathcal O$ of $\mathfrak q(n)$. We also obtain an analogue of Losev-Shu-Xiao decomposition for the finite $W$-superalgebras $U(\mathfrak q(n), E)$ of $\mathfrak q(n)$ associated to an odd nilpotent element $E\in \mathfrak q(n)_{\bar{1}}$. As an application, we establish several equivalences of categories of Whittaker $\mathfrak q(n)$-modules and analogues of BGG category of $U(\mathfrak q(n), E)$-modules. In particular, we reduce the multiplicity problem of Verma modules over $U(\mathfrak q(n), E)$ to that of the Verma modules in the BGG categories $\mathcal O$ of $\mathfrak q(n)$.

Super duality for Whittaker modules and finite $W$-algebras

We establish a super duality as an equivalence between Whittaker module categories over a pair of classical Lie algebra and Lie superalgebra in the infinite-rank limit. Building on this result and utilizing the Losev-Shu-Xiao decomposition, we obtain a super duality which is an equivalence between module categories over a pair of finite $W$-algebras and $W$-superalgebras at the infinite-rank limit.

Twisted-light-induced exciton wave packets in transition-metal dichalcogenide monolayers

We present a comprehensive theoretical investigation of the photo-generated excitons in transition-metal dichalcogenide monolayers (TMD-ML's) by Laguerre-Gaussian beams, a celebrated kind of twisted lights (TL's) carrying quantized orbital angular momenta (OAM). We show that the photo-excitation of TL incident to a TMD-ML leads to the formation of spatially localized exciton wave packets, constituted by the superposition of finite-momentum exciton states determined by the intriguing interplay between the multiple degrees of freedom of the optical and excitonic subsystems. Consequently, the TL-induced exciton wave packets yield profound directional photo-luminescences whose polar-angle-dependences are encoded by the transferred optical OAM and azimuthal angle part, despite OAM-irrelevant, optically resolves the exchange-split longitudinal and transverse exciton bands. Interestingly, the application of linearly polarized TL onto a valley-excitonic system mimics an exciton multiplexer allowing for selectively detecting the individual valley-mixed exciton bands, which are normally hardly measured spectrally.

Whittaker categories of quasi-reductive Lie superalgebras and quantum symmetric pairs

We show that, for an arbitrary quasi-reductive Lie superalgebra with a triangular decomposition and a character $ζ$ of the nilpotent radical, the associated Backelin functor $Γ_ζ$ sends Verma modules to standard Whittaker modules provided the latter exist. As a consequence, this gives a complete solution to the problem of determining the composition factors of the standard Whittaker modules in terms of composition factors of Verma modules in the category $\mathcal O$. In the case of the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebras, we show that the Backelin functor $Γ_ζ$ and its target category, respectively, categorify a $q$-symmetrizing map and the corresponding $q$-symmetrized Fock space associated with a quasi-split quantum symmetric pair of type $AIII$.

Blocks and characters of $D(2|1;ζ)$-modules of non-integral weights

We classify blocks in the BGG category $\mathcal O$ of modules of non-integral weights for the exceptional Lie superalgebra $D(2|1;ζ)$. We establish various reduction methods, which connect some types of non-integral blocks of $D(2|1;ζ)$ with integral blocks of general linear Lie superalgebras $\mathfrak{gl}{(1|1)}$ and $\mathfrak{gl}{(2|1)}$. We compute the characters for irreducible $D(2|1;ζ)$-modules of non-integral weights in $\mathcal O$.

Representation theory of a semisimple extension of the Takiff superalgebra

We study a semisimple extension of a Takiff superalgebra which turns out to have a remarkably rich representation theory. We determine the blocks in both the finite-dimensional and BGG module categories and also classify the Borel subalgebras. We further compute all extension groups between two finite-dimensional simple objects and prove that all non-principal blocks in the finite-dimensional module category are Koszul.

Twisted-light-revealed Lightlike Exciton Dispersion in Monolayer MoS2

Twisted light carries a well-defined orbital angular momentum (OAM) per photon. The quantum number l of its OAM can be arbitrarily set, making it an excellent light source to realize high-dimensional quantum entanglement and ultra-wide bandwidth optical communication structures. To develop solid-state optoelectronic systems compatible with such promising light sources, a timely challenging task is to efficiently and coherently transfer the optical OAM of light to certain solid-state optoelectronic materials. Among the state-of-the-art emergent materials, atomically thin monolayer transition metal dichalcogenide (ML-TMD), featured by ultra-strong light-matter interaction due to its reduced dimensionality, renders itself a potential material suitable for novel applications. In this study, we carried out photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy studies of ML-MoS2 under photoexcitation of twisted light with well-defined quantized OAM. We mainly observed pronounced increases in the spectral peak energy for every increment of l of the incident twisted light. The observed non-linear l-dependence of the spectral blue shifts evidences the OAM transfer from the exciting twisted light to the valley excitons in ML-TMDs, which is well accounted for by our analysis and computational simulation. Even more excitingly, the twisted light excitation is shown to make excitonic transitions relative to the transferred OAM, enabling us to infer the exciton band dispersion from the measured spectral shifts. Consequently, the measured non-linear l-dependent spectral shifts revealed an unusual lightlike exciton band dispersion of valley excitons in ML-TMDs that is predicted by previous theoretical studies and evidenced for the first time via our experimental setup that utilizes the unique twisted light source.

Quantum group of type $A$ and representations of queer Lie superalgebra

We establish a maximal parabolic version of the Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture \cite[Conjecture 5.10]{CKW} for the BGG category $\mathcal{O}_{k,ζ}$ of $\mathfrak{q}(n)$-modules of "$\pm ζ$-weights", where $k\leq n$ and $ζ\in\mathbb{C} \setminus \frac{1}{2} \mathbb{Z}$. As a consequence, the irreducible characters of these $\mathfrak{q}(n)$-modules in this maximal parabolic category are given by the Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials of type $A$ Lie algebras. As an application, closed character formulas for a class of $\mathfrak{q}(n)$-modules resembling polynomial and Kostant modules of the general linear Lie superalgebras are obtained.

Finger-gate manipulated quantum transport in Dirac materials

We investigate the quantum transport properties of multichannel nanoribbons made of materials described by the Dirac equation, under an in-plane magnetic field. In the low energy regime, positive and negative finger-gate potentials allow the electrons to make intra-subband transitions via hole-like or electron-like quasibound states (QBS), respectively, resulting in dips in the conductance. In the high energy regime, double dip structures in the conductance are found, attributed to spin-flip or spin-nonflip inter-subband transitions through the QBSs. Inverting the finger-gate polarity offers the possibility to manipulate the spin polarized electronic transport to achieve a controlled spin-switch.

Finite-dimensional half-integer weight modules over queer Lie superalgebras

We give a new interpretation of representation theory of the finite-dimensional half-integer weight modules over the queer Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{q}(n)$. It is given in terms of Brundan's work of finite-dimensional integer weight $\mathfrak{q}(n)$-modules by means of Lusztig's canonical basis. Using this viewpoint we compute the characters of the finite-dimensional half-integer weight irreducible modules. For a large class of irreducible modules whose highest weights are of special types (i.e., totally connected or totally disconnected) we derive closed-form character formulas that are reminiscent of Kac-Wakimoto character formula for classical Lie superalgebras.

Kac-Wakimoto character formula for ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebras

We classify finite-dimensional tame modules over the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebras. For these modules we show that their characters are given by the Kac-Wakimoto character formula, thus establishing the Kac-Wakimoto conjecture for the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebras. We further relate the Kac-Wakimoto formula to the super Jacobi polynomials of Sergeev and Veselov, and show that these polynomials, up to a sign, give the super characters for these tame modules.

Brundan-Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture for general linear Lie superalgebras

In the framework of canonical and dual canonical bases of Fock spaces, Brundan in 2003 formulated a Kazhdan-Lusztig type conjecture for the characters of the irreducible and tilting modules in the BGG category for the general linear Lie superalgebra for the first time. In this paper, we prove Brundan's conjecture and its variants associated to all Borel subalgebras in full generality.

Irreducible Characters of Kac-Moody Lie superalgebras

Generalizing the super duality formalism for finite-dimensional Lie superalgebras of type $ABCD$, we establish an equivalence between parabolic BGG categories of a Kac-Moody Lie superalgebra and a Kac-Moody Lie algebra. The characters for a large family of irreducible highest weight modules over a symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie superalgebra are then given in terms of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials for the first time. We formulate a notion of integrable modules over a symmetrizable Kac-Moody Lie superalgebra via super duality, and show that these integrable modules form a semisimple tensor subcategory, whose Littlewood-Richardson tensor product multiplicities coincide with those in the Kac-Moody algebra setting.

Mechanically induced pseudo-magnetic fields in the excitonic fine structures of droplet epitaxial quantum dots

We present numerical investigations based on the Luttinger-Kohn four-band $k \cdot p$ theory and, accordingly, establish a quantitatively valid model of the excitonic fine structures of droplet epitaxial GaAs/AlGaAs quantum dots under uni-axial stress control. In the formalisms, stressing a photo-excited quantum dot is equivalent creating a pseudo-magnetic field that is directly coupled to the pseudo-spin of the exciton doublet and tunable to tailor the polarized fine structure of exciton. The latter feature is associated with the valence-band-mixing of exciton that is especially sensitive to external stress in inherently unstrained droplet epitaxial GaAs/AlGaAs quantum dots and allows us to mechanically design and prepare any desired exciton states of QD photon sources prior to the photon generation.

Equivalence of blocks for the general linear Lie superalgebra

We develop a reduction procedure which provides an equivalence (as highest weight categories) from an arbitrary block (defined in terms of the central character and the integral Weyl group) of the BGG category O for a general linear Lie superalgebra to an integral block of O for (possibly a direct sum of) general linear Lie superalgebras. We also establish indecomposability of blocks of O.

Finger-gate manipulated quantum transport in a semiconductor narrow constriction with spin-orbit interactions and Zeeman effect

The authors investigate quantum transport in a narrow constriction fabricated by narrow band gap semiconductor materials with spin-orbit (SO) couplings. We consider the Rashba-Dresselhaus (RD) spin-orbit interactions (SOIs) and the Zeeman effect induced by an in-plane magnetic field along the transport direction. The interplay of the RD-SOI and the Zeeman effect may induce a SOI-Zeeman gap and influence the transport properties. We demonstrate that an attractive scattering potential may induce electron-like quasi-bound-state feature and manifest the RD-SOI-Zeeman induced Fano line-shape in conductance. Furthermore, a repulsive scattering potential may induce hole-like quasi-bound-state feature on the subband top of the lower spin branch.

Super duality for general linear Lie superalgebras and applications

We apply the super duality formalism recently developed by the authors to obtain new equivalences of various module categories of general linear Lie superalgebras. We establish the correspondence of standard, tilting, and simple modules, as well as the identification of the u-homology groups, under these category equivalences. As an application, we obtain a complete solution of the irreducible character problem for some new parabolic BGG categories of gl(m|n)-modules, including the full BGG category of gl(m|2)-modules, in terms of type A Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials.

Dualities for Lie superalgebras

We explain how Lie superalgebras of types gl and osp provide a natural framework generalizing the classical Schur and Howe dualities. This exposition includes a discussion of super duality, which connects the parabolic categories O between classical Lie superalgebras and Lie algebras. Super duality provides a conceptual solution to the irreducible character problem for these Lie superalgebras in terms of the classical Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials.

Irreducible Characters of General Linear Superalgebra and Super Duality

We develop a new method to solve the irreducible character problem for a wide class of modules over the general linear superalgebra, including all the finite-dimensional modules, by directly relating the problem to the classical Kazhdan-Lusztig theory. We further verify a parabolic version of a conjecture of Brundan on the irreducible characters in the BGG category $\mc{O}$ of the general linear superalgebra. We also prove the super duality conjecture.

Kostant homology formulas for oscillator modules of Lie superalgebras

We provide a systematic approach to obtain formulas for characters and Kostant ${\mathfrak u}$-homology groups of the oscillator modules of the finite dimensional general linear and ortho-symplectic superalgebras, via Howe dualities for infinite dimensional Lie algebras. Specializing these Lie superalgebras to Lie algebras, we recover, in a new way, formulas for Kostant homology groups of unitarizable highest weight representations of Hermitian symmetric pairs. In addition, two new reductive dual pairs related to the above-mentioned ${\mathfrak u}$-homology computation are worked out.

Super duality and irreducible characters of ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebras

We formulate and establish a super duality which connects parabolic categories $O$ between the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebras and classical Lie algebras of $BCD$ types. This provides a complete and conceptual solution of the irreducible character problem for the ortho-symplectic Lie superalgebras in a parabolic category $O$, which includes all finite-dimensional irreducible modules, in terms of classical Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials.

Engineered spin phase diagram of two interacting electrons in semiconductor nanowire quantum dots

Spin properties of two interacting electrons in a quantum dot (QD) embedded in a nanowire with controlled aspect ratio and longitudinal magnetic fields are investigated by using a configuration interaction (CI) method and exact diagonalization (ED) techniques. The developed CI theory based on a three-dimensional (3D) parabolic model provides explicit formulations of the Coulomb matrix elements and allows for straightforward and efficient numerical implementation. Our studies reveal fruitful features of spin singlet-triplet transitions of two electrons confined in a nanowire quantum dot (NWQD), as a consequence of the competing effects of geometry-controlled kinetic energy quantization, the various Coulomb interactions, and spin Zeeman energies. The developed theory is further employed to study the spin phase diagram of two quantum-confined electrons in the regime of "cross over" dimensionality, from quasi-two-dimensional (disk-like) QDs to finite one-dimensional (rod-like) QDs.

Tunneling Effects on Fine-Structure Splitting in Quantum Dot Molecules

We theoretically study the effects of bias-controlled interdot tunneling in vertically coupled quantum dots on the emission properties of spin excitons in various bias-controlled tunneling regimes. As a main result, for strongly coupled dots we predict substantial reduction of optical fine structure splitting without any drop in the optical oscillator strength. This special reduction diminishes the distinguibility of polarized decay paths in cascade emission processes suggesting the use of stacked quantum dot molecules as entangled photon-pair sources.

A Fock space approach to representation theory of osp(2|2n)

A Fock space is introduced that admits an action of a quantum group of type A supplemented with some extra operators. The canonical and dual canonical basis of the Fock space are computed and then used to derive the finite-dimenisonal tilting and irreducible characters for the Lie superalgebra osp(2|2n). We also determine all the composition factors of the symmetric tensors of the natural osp(2|2n)-module.

Character Formula for Infinite Dimensional Unitarizable Modules of the General Linear Superalgebra

The Fock space of $m+p$ bosonic and $n+q$ fermionic quantum oscillators forms a unitarizable module of the general linear superalgebra $gl_{m+p|n+q}$. Its tensor powers decompose into direct sums of infinite dimensional irreducible highest weight $gl_{m+p|n+q}$-modules. We obtain an explicit decomposition of any tensor power of this Fock space into irreducibles, and develop a character formula for the irreducible $gl_{m+p|n+q}$-modules arising in this way.
