Kinetic theories: from curved space to flat space

We generalize the equivalence between off-equilibrium state and gravitational perturbation of equilibrium state from dynamics of macroscopic quantities to that of microscopic particles. We also generalize the equivalence to incorporate off-equilibrium state with vorticity by torsional perturbation to equilibrium state. The equivalence is achieved by mapping kinetic theories of spinless and spinning particles in torsional curved space to flat space through suitable choice of inertial frame that eliminates geodesic forces on particles. The equivalence has been shown for hydrodynamic and elastic regimes. In the latter case, we predict spin polarization induced by time-variation of shear strain in elastic materials. We also provide an order-of-magnitude estimate for the polarization in Dirac semi-metal.

Buckling behavior of tenary one-dimensional van der Waals heterostructures

1D van der Waals heterostructures (1D vdWH) were recently reported to be successfully synthesized. We perform molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the buckling behavior of a 1D vdWH composed of inner carbon nanotube, a middle boron nitride nanotube and an outer molybdenum disulfide nanotube. We find that as the temperature increases, the 1D vdWH gradully loses its stability and the peak value of compressive stress decreases. Slenderness ratio have a slight influence on the strength and stability of 1D vdWH under axial compression.

Quantum Kinetic Theory for Quantum Electrodynamics

We derive a quantum kinetic theory for QED based on Kadanoff-Baym equations for Wigner functions. By assuming parity invariance and considering a complete set of self-energy diagrams, we find the resulting kinetic theory expanded to lowest order in $\hbar$ generalizes the well-known classical kinetic theory to massive case. It contains elastic and inelastic collision terms and integrates screening effect naturally. For a given solution to the classical kinetic theory, we find at next order in $\hbar$ a non-dynamical quantum correction to Wigner functions for both fermions and photons, which gives rise to spin polarization for fermion and photon respectively. The approach allows us to study the non-dynamical part of collisional effect on spin polarization phenomenon.

Quantum Kinetic Theory with Vector and Axial Gauge Fields

In this paper we introduce the axial gauge field to the framework of the quantum kinetic theory with vector gauge field in the massless limit. Treating axial-gauge field on an equal footing with the vector-gauge field, we construct a consistent solution to the kinetic equations up to the first order in gradient expansion or equivalently the semi-classical expansion. The intuitive extension of quantum kinetic theory presented in this work provides a natural generalization, and turns out to give rise to the covariant anomaly and the covariant currents. The corresponding consistent currents can be obtained from the covariant ones by adding the Chern-Simons current. We use the consistent currents to calculate various correlation functions among currents and energy-momentum tensor in equilibrium state.

Chiral kinetic theory from Landau level basis

We derive a chiral kinetic theory with Landau level basis, which is valid for slow-varying magnetic field with arbitrary magnitude. We apply the new chiral kinetic theory to calculate the electric conductivity transverse to the magnetic field in a magnetized QED and QCD plasma. Under the lowest Landau level approximation and relaxation time approximation, we find the transverse conductivity approaches a constant in the large magnetic field limit and is inversely proportional to the relaxation time. We also obtain a frequency-dependent transverse conductivity in response to a time-dependent electric field. We find a high frequency enhancement in this conductivity.

Chiral Magnetic Effect in Isobar Collisions from Stochastic Hydrodynamics

We study chiral magnetic effect in collisions of AuAu, RuRu and ZrZr at s = 200GeV. The axial charge evolution is modeled with stochastic hydrodynamics and geometrical quantities are calculated with Monte Carlo Glauber model. By adjusting the relaxation time of magnetic field, we find our results in good agreement with background subtracted data for AuAu collisions at the same energy. We also make prediction for RuRu and ZrZr collisions. We find a weak centrality dependence of initial chiral imbalance, which implies the centrality dependence of chiral magnetic effect signal comes mainly from those of magnetic field and volume factor. Our results also show an unexpected dependence on system size: while the system of AuAu has larger chiral imbalance and magnetic field, it turns out to have smaller signal for chiral magnetic effect due to the larger volume suppression factor.

Entropy Production in Dissipationless Hydrodynamics with an order parameter

We study hydrodynamics coupled to order parameter based on linear sigma model. We obtain numerical solutions for both boost invariant and non-boost invariant solutions. Both solutions show the order parameter rises with oscillations, which persist at late time. The temperature drops with correlated oscillations, which can be approximated by a power law at mid-rapidity. We also find the entropy is conserved in the boost invariant case, but entropy production is seen in non-boost invariant solution. We interpret the entropy production as due to smoothening of inhomogeneity in the off-equilibrium state.

Photon Self-energy in Magnetized Chiral Plasma from Kinetic Theory

We study the photon self-energy in magnetized chiral plasma by solving the response of electromagnetic field perturbations in chiral kinetic theory with Landau level states. With lowest Landau level approximation and in collisionless limit, we find solutions for three particular perturbations: parallel electric field, static perpendicular electric and magnetic field, corresponding to chiral magnetic wave, drift state and tilted state, from which we extract components of photon self-energy in different kinematics. We show no solution is possible for more general field perturbations. We argue this is an artifact of the collisionless limit: while static solution corresponding to drift state and tilted state can be found, they cannot be realized dynamically without interaction between Landau levels. We also discuss possible manifestation of side-jump effect due to both boost and rotation, with the latter due to the presence of background magnetic field.

Kibble-Zurek Scaling in a Holographic p-wave Superconductor

We study the Kibble-Zurek mechanism in a 2d holographic p-wave superconductor model with a homogeneous source quench on the critical point. We derive, on general grounds, the scaling of the Kibble-Zurek time, which marks breaking-down of adiabaticity. It is expressed in terms of four critical exponents, including three static and one dynamical exponents. Via explicit calculations within a holographic model, we confirm the scaling of the Kibble-Zurek time and obtain the scaling functions in the quench process. We find the results are formally similar to a homogeneous quench in a higher dimensional holographic s-wave superconductor. The similarity is due to the special type of quench we take. We expect differences in the quench dynamics if the condition of homogeneous source and dominance of critical mode are relaxed.

Magneto-vortical effect in strongly coupled plasma

Based on a holographic model incorporating both chiral anomaly and gravitational anomaly, we study the effect of magneto-vortical coupling on transport properties of a strongly coupled plasma. The focus of present work is on the generation of a vector charge density and an axial current, as response to vorticity in a magnetized plasma. The transport coefficients parameterising the vector charge density and axial current are calculated both analytically (in the weak magnetic field limit) and also numerically (for general values of the magnetic field). We find the generation of vector charge receives both non-anomalous and anomalous contributions, with the non-anomalous contribution dominating in the limit of strong magnetic field and the anomalous contribution sensitive to both chiral anomaly and gravitational anomaly. On the contrary, we find the axial current is induced entirely due to the gravitational anomaly, thus we interpret the axial current generation as chiral vortical effect. The corresponding chiral vortical conductivity is found to be suppressed by the magnetic field. By Onsager relation, these transport coefficients are responsible for the generation of a thermal current due to a transverse electric field or a transverse axial magnetic field, which we call thermal Hall effect and thermal axial magnetic effect, respectively.

Holographic thermalization with initial long range correlation

We studied the evolution of Wightman correlator in a thermalizing state modeled by AdS_3-Vaidya background. We gave a prescription for calculating Wightman correlator in coordinate space without using any approximation. For equal-time correlator $\langle O(v,x)O(v,0)\rangle$, we obtained an enhancement factor $v^2$ due to long range correlation present in the initial state. This was missed by previous studies based on geodesic approximation. We found that the long range correlation in initial state does not lead to significant modification to thermalization time as compared to known results with generic initial state. We also studied spatially integrated Wightman correlator and showed evidence on the distinction between long distance and small momentum physics for an out-of-equilibrium state. We also calculated radiation spectrum of particle weakly coupled to $O$ and found lower frequency mode approaches thermal spectrum faster than high frequency mode.

Mass Effect on Axial Charge Dynamics

We studied effect of finite quark mass on the dynamics of axial charge using the D3/D7 model in holography. The mass term in axial anomaly equation affects both the fluctuation (generation) and dissipation of axial charge. We studied the dependence of the effect on quark mass and external magnetic field. For axial charge generation, we calculated the mass diffusion rate, which characterizes the helicity flipping rate. The rate is a non-monotonous function of mass and can be significantly enhanced by the magnetic field. The diffusive behavior is also related to a divergent susceptibility of axial charge. For axial charge dissipation, we found that in the long time limit, the mass term dissipates all the charge effectively generated by parallel electric and magnetic fields. The result is consistent with a relaxation time approximation. The rate of dissipation through mass term is a monotonous increasing function of both quark mass and magnetic field.

Axial current generation by P-odd domains in QCD matter

The dynamics of topological domains which break parity (${\cal P}$) and charge-parity (${\cal CP}$) symmetry of QCD are studied. We derive in a general setting that those local domains will generate an axial current and quantify the strength of the induced axial current. Our findings are verified in a top-down holographic model. The relation between the real time dynamics of those local domains and chiral magnetic effect is also elucidated. We finally argue that such an induced axial current would be phenomenologically important if topological domains are created in heavy-ion collisions experiment.

Dilepton and photon production in the presence of a nontrivial Polyakov loop

We calculate the production of dileptons and photons in the presence of a nontrivial Polyakov loop in QCD. This is applicable to the semi-Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP), at temperatures above but near the critical temperature for deconfinement. The Polyakov loop is small in the semi-QGP, and near unity in the perturbative QGP. Working to leading order in the coupling constant of QCD, we find that there is a mild enhancement, ~ 20%, for dilepton production in the semi-QGP over that in the perturbative QGP. In contrast, we find that photon production is strongly suppressed in the semi-QGP, by about an order of magnitude, relative to the perturbative QGP. In the perturbative QGP photon production contains contributions from 2->2 scattering and collinear emission with the Landau- Pomeranchuk-Migdal (LPM) effect. In the semi-QGP we show that the two contributions are modified differently. The rate for 2->2 scattering is suppressed by a factor which depends upon the Polyakov loop. In contrast, in an SU(N) gauge theory the collinear rate is suppressed by 1/N, so that the LPM effect vanishes at infinite N. To leading order in the semi-QGP at large N, we compute the rate from 2->2 scattering to the leading logarithmic order and the collinear rate to leading order.

New Classes of Partial Geometries and Their Associated LDPC Codes

The use of partial geometries to construct parity-check matrices for LDPC codes has resulted in the design of successful codes with a probability of error close to the Shannon capacity at bit error rates down to $10^{-15}$. Such considerations have motivated this further investigation. A new and simple construction of a type of partial geometries with quasi-cyclic structure is given and their properties are investigated. The trapping sets of the partial geometry codes were considered previously using the geometric aspects of the underlying structure to derive information on the size of allowable trapping sets. This topic is further considered here. Finally, there is a natural relationship between partial geometries and strongly regular graphs. The eigenvalues of the adjacency matrices of such graphs are well known and it is of interest to determine if any of the Tanner graphs derived from the partial geometries are good expanders for certain parameter sets, since it can be argued that codes with good geometric and expansion properties might perform well under message-passing decoding.

The anomalous transport of axial charge: topological vs non-topological fluctuations

Axial charge imbalance is an essential ingredient in novel effects associated with chiral anomaly such as chiral magnetic effects (CME). In a non-Abelian plasma with chiral fermions, local axial charge can be generated a) by topological fluctuations which would create domains with non-zero winding number b) by conventional non-topological thermal fluctuations. We provide a holographic evaluations of medium's response to dynamically generated axial charge density in hydrodynamic limit and examine if medium's response depends on the microscopic origins of axial charge imbalance. We show a local domain with non-zero winding number would induce a non-dissipative axial current due to chiral anomaly. We illustrate holographically that a local axial charge imbalance would be damped out with the damping rate related to Chern-Simon diffusive constant. By computing chiral magnetic current in the presence of dynamically generated axial charge density, we found that the ratio of CME current over the axial charge density is independent of the origin of axial charge imbalance in low frequency and momentum limit. Finally, a stochastic hydrodynamic equation of the axial charge is formulated by including both types of fluctuations.

Collisional energy loss above the critical temperature in QCD

We compute the collisional energy loss for a heavy quark above the critical temperature in Quantum ChromoDynamics (QCD). We work in the semi Quark-Gluon Plasma, which assumes that this region is dominated by the non-trivial holonomy of the thermal Wilson line. Relative to the result to leading order in perturbation theory, at a fixed value of the coupling constant we generically we find that collisional energy loss is suppressed by powers of the Polyakov loop, l < 1. For small values of the loop, this suppression is linear for the scattering off of light quarks, and quadratic for the scattering off of gluons, or for Compton scattering.

Instabilities near the QCD phase transition in the holographic models

The paper discusses phenomena close to the critical QCD temperature, using the holographic model. One issue studied is the overcooled high-T phase, in which we calculate quasi normal sound modes. We do not find instabilities associated with other first order phase transitions, but nevertheless observe drastic changes in sound propagation/dissipation. The rest of the paper considers a cluster of the high-T phase in the UV in coexistence with the low-T phase, in a simplified ansatz in which the wall separating them is positioned only in the holographic coordinate. This allows to find the force on the wall and classical motion of the cluster. When classical motion is forbidden, we evaluate tunneling probability through the remaining barrier.

Out-of-Equilibrium Chiral Magnetic Effect at Strong Coupling

We study the charge transports originating from triangle anomaly in out-of-equilibrium conditions in the framework of AdS/CFT correspondence at strong coupling, to gain useful insights on possible charge separation effects that may happen in the very early stages of heavy-ion collisions. We first construct a gravity background of a homogeneous mass shell with a finite (axial) charge density gravitationally collapsing to a charged blackhole, which serves as a dual model for out-of-equilibrium charged plasma undergoing thermalization. We find that a finite charge density in the plasma slows down the thermalization. We then study the out-of-equilibrium properties of Chiral Magnetic Effect and Chiral Magnetic Wave in this background. As the medium thermalizes, the magnitude of chiral magnetic conductivity and the response time delay grow. We find a dynamical peak in the spectral function of retarded current correlator, which we identify as an out-of-equilibrium chiral magnetic wave. The group velocity of the out-of-equilibrium chiral magnetic wave is shown to receive a dominant contribution from a non-equilibrium effect, making the wave moving much faster than in the equilibrium, which may enhance the charge transports via triangle anomaly in the early stage of heavy-ion collisions.

Zero interface tension at the deconfining phase transition for a matrix model of a $SU(\infty)$ gauge theory

Using a matrix model, we model the deconfining phase transition at nonzero temperature for a SU(N) gauge theory at large $N$. At infinite $N$ the matrix model exhibits a Gross-Witten-Wadia transition. We show that as a consequence, both the order-disorder and the order-order interface tensions vanish identically at the critical temperature $T_d$. We estimate how these quantities vanish in the matrix model as $T \rightarrow T_d$ and as $N \rightarrow \infty$. The numerical solution of the matrix model suggests possible non-monotonic behavior in $N$ for relatively small values of $N \sim 5$.

Thermalization from gauge/gravity duality: Evolution of singularities in unequal time correlators

We consider a gauge/gravity dual model of thermalization which consists of a collapsing thin matter shell in asymptotically Anti-de Sitter space. A central aspect of our model is to consider a shell moving at finite velocity as determined by its equation of motion, rather than a quasi-static approximation as considered previously in the literature. By applying a divergence matching method, we obtain the evolution of singularities in the retarded unequal time correlator $G^R(t,t')$, which probes different stages of the thermalization. We find that the number of singularities decreases from a finite number to zero as the gauge theory thermalizes. This may be interpreted as a sign of decoherence. Moreover, in a second part of the paper, we show explicitly that the thermal correlator is characterized by the existence of singularities in the complex time plane. By studying a quasi-static state, we show the singularities at real times originate from contributions of normal modes. We also investigate the possibility of obtaining complex singularities from contributions of quasi-normal modes.

Time singularities of correlators from Dirichlet conditions in AdS/CFT

Within AdS/CFT, we establish a general procedure for obtaining the leading singularity of two-point correlators involving operator insertions at different times. The procedure obtained is applied to operators dual to a scalar field which satisfies Dirichlet boundary conditions on an arbitrary time-like surface in the bulk. We determine how the Dirichlet boundary conditions influence the singularity structure of the field theory correlation functions. New singularities appear at boundary points connected by null geodesics bouncing between the Dirichlet surface and the boundary. We propose that their appearance can be interpreted as due to a non-local double trace deformation of the dual field theory, in which the two insertions of the operator are separated in time. The procedure developed in this paper provides a technical tool which may prove useful in view of describing holographic thermalization using gravitational collapse in AdS space.

A moving mirror in AdS space as a toy model for holographic thermalization

It is expected that thermalization may be described within gauge/gravity duality by considering time-dependent configurations on the gravity side of the correspondence, for instance a gravitational collapse of a matter configuration in Anti-de Sitter space. As a step towards the ambitious goal of describing such a configuration, we investigate a simple time-dependent toy model in which a mirror moves in the radial direction of Anti-de Sitter space. For this configuration, we establish a procedure for calculating two-point functions of scalar fluctuations, based on a WKB approximation. We test our method on two sample trajectories for the mirror, and find that the singularity structure of the two-point functions is in agreement with geometric optics.

An anomalous hydrodynamics for chiral superfluid

Starting from low energy effective chiral Lagrangian with gauged Wess-Zumino Witten term, we have derived a hydrodynamic theory for chiral superfluid. It is a non-abelian hydrodynamics at zero temperature with only superfluid components. With an external electromagnetic field and baryonic and axial baryonic chemical potentials turned on, we are able to identify analogs of various anomaly induced term in normal hydrodynamics, including chiral vortical effect, chiral magnetic effect and chiral electric effect. As an example, we solved the hydrodynamic equations for the ground state and observed the chiral magnetic effect and chiral separation in the confined phase.

On Stability and Transport of Cold Holographic Matter

We use gauge-gravity duality to study the stability of zero-temperature, finite baryon density states of N=4 supersymmetric SU(Nc) Yang-Mills theory coupled to a single massive fundamental-representation N=2 hypermultiplet in the large-Nc and large-coupling limits. In particular, we study the spectrum of mesons. The dual description is a probe D7-brane in anti-de Sitter space with a particular configuration of worldvolume fields. The meson spectrum is dual to the spectrum of fluctuations of worldvolume fields about that configuration. We use a combination of analytical and numerical techniques to compute the spectrum, including a special numerical technique designed to deal with singular points in the fluctuations' equations of motion. Despite circumstantial evidence that the system might be unstable, such as a finite entropy density at zero temperature and the existence of instabilities in similar theories, we find no evidence of any instabilities, at least for the ranges of frequency and momenta that we consider. We discover a pole on the imaginary frequency axis in a scalar meson two-point function, similar to the diffusive mode in the two-point function of a conserved charge.

On the anomalous superfluid hydrodynamics

It has been shown by Son and Surówka that the presence of anomaly in hydrodynamics with global U(1) symmetry can induce vortical and magnetic currents. The induced current is uniquely determined by anomaly from the existence of an entropy current with non-negative divergence. In this work, we extended the analysis to hydrodynamics with U(1) symmetry spontaneously broken, i.e. U(1) superfluid hydrodynamics. We found that all possible first order gradient corrections are determined up to five arbitrary functions, with the entropy current containing one arbitrary function. Furthermore, the stress tensor does not receive correction from terms proportional to the magnetic field.

On the critical condition in gravitational shock wave collision and heavy ion collisions

In this paper, we derived a critical condition for matter equilibration in heavy ion collisions using a holographic approach. A gravitational shock waves with infinite transverse extension is used to model infinite nucleus. We constructed the trapped surface in the collision of two asymmetric planar shock waves with sources at different depth in the bulk AdS and formulated a critical condition for matter equilibration in collision of "nucleus" in the dual gauge theory. We found the critical condition is insensitive to the depth of the source closer to the AdS boundary. To understand the origin of the critical condition, we computed the Next to Leading Order stress tensor in the boundary field theory due to the interaction of the nucleus and found the critical condition corresponds to the breaking down of the perturbative expansion. We indeed expect non-perturbative effects be needed to describe black hole formation.

Circulant Arrays on Cyclic Subgroups of Finite Fields: Rank Analysis and Construction of Quasi-Cyclic LDPC Codes

This paper consists of three parts. The first part presents a large class of new binary quasi-cyclic (QC)-LDPC codes with girth of at least 6 whose parity-check matrices are constructed based on cyclic subgroups of finite fields. Experimental results show that the codes constructed perform well over the binary-input AWGN channel with iterative decoding using the sum-product algorithm (SPA). The second part analyzes the ranks of the parity-check matrices of codes constructed based on finite fields with characteristic of 2 and gives combinatorial expressions for these ranks. The third part identifies a subclass of constructed QC-LDPC codes that have large minimum distances. Decoding of codes in this subclass with the SPA converges very fast.

Cyclic and Quasi-Cyclic LDPC Codes on Row and Column Constrained Parity-Check Matrices and Their Trapping Sets

This paper is concerned with construction and structural analysis of both cyclic and quasi-cyclic codes, particularly LDPC codes. It consists of three parts. The first part shows that a cyclic code given by a parity-check matrix in circulant form can be decomposed into descendant cyclic and quasi-cyclic codes of various lengths and rates. Some fundamental structural properties of these descendant codes are developed, including the characterizations of the roots of the generator polynomial of a cyclic descendant code. The second part of the paper shows that cyclic and quasi-cyclic descendant LDPC codes can be derived from cyclic finite geometry LDPC codes using the results developed in first part of the paper. This enlarges the repertoire of cyclic LDPC codes. The third part of the paper analyzes the trapping sets of regular LDPC codes whose parity-check matrices satisfy a certain constraint on their rows and columns. Several classes of finite geometry and finite field cyclic and quasi-cyclic LDPC codes with large minimum weights are shown to have no harmful trapping sets with size smaller than their minimum weights. Consequently, their performance error-floors are dominated by their minimum weights.

The Rise and Fall of Baryons

We discuss the baryonic contribution to QCD thermodynamics near the QCD phase transition, which we split into "stringy excitations" and the "chiral" lowest states. Our finite-$T$ string model for the former component is inspired by the lattice data on static potentials and ideas of string survival even $above$ $T_c$: it is used to explain two sets of baryonic susceptibilities calculated on the lattice by the Bielefeld-BNL group. Two new ingredients of the model are (i) the near-$T_c$ tightening of the strings, and (ii) physical upper limit of the string length. Then we proceed to more subtle effects related to chiral restoration dynamics near $T_c$: we suggest that "melting" of the sigma terms of the lowest nucleon/$Δ$ masses can explain these susceptibilities. In a discussion, we consider bound monopole-quark states, as a possible explanation to some deficits of contribution at $T=(1-1.4)T_c$.

Toward Thermalization in Heavy Ion Collisions at Strong Coupling

We find the trapped surface for a collision of two sourceless shock waves in AdS$_5$ and conclude that such collisions always lead to a creation of a black hole in the bulk. Due to holographic correspondence, in the boundary gauge theory this result proves that a thermalized medium (quark-gluon plasma) is produced in heavy ion collisions at strong coupling (albeit in ${\cal N} =4$ super-Yang-Mills theory). We present new evidence supporting the analytic estimate for the time of thermalization that exists in the literature and find that thermalization time is parametrically much shorter than the time of shock wave stopping, indicating that our result may be relevant for description of heavy ion collision experiments.

Grazing Collisions of Gravitational Shock Waves and Entropy Production in Heavy Ion Collision

AdS/CFT correspondence is now widely used for study of strongly coupled plasmas, such as produced in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions at RHIC. While properties of equilibrated plasma and small deviations from equilibrium are by now reasonably well understood, its initial formation and thermal equilibration is much more challenging issue which remains to be studied. In the dual gravity language, these problems are related to formation of bulk black holes, and trapped surfaces we study in this work is a way to estimate the properties (temperature and entropy) of such black hole. Extending the work by Gubser et al, we find numerically trapped surfaces for non-central collision of shock waves with different energies. We observe a critical impact parameter, beyond which the trapped surface does not exist: and we argue that there are experimental indications for similar critical impact parameter in real collisions. We also present a simple solvable example of shock wave collision: wall-on-wall collision. The applicability of this approach to heavy ion collision is critically discussed.

On Analytic Solutions of (1+3)D Relativistic Ideal Hydrodynamic Equations

In this paper, we find various analytic (1+3)D solutions to relativistic ideal hydrodynamic equations based on embedding of known low-dimensional scaling solutions. We first study a class of flows with 2D Hubble Embedding, for which a single ordinary differential equation for the remaining velocity field can be derived. Using this equation, all solutions with transverse 2D Hubble embedding and power law ansatz for the remaining longitudinal velocity field will be found. Going beyond the power law ansatz, we further find a few solutions with transverse 2D Hubble embedding and nontrivial longitudinal velocity field. Finally we investigate general scaling flows with each component of the velocity fields scaling independently, for which we also find all possible solutions. Possible physical relevance of these solutions will be discussed.

Toward the AdS/CFT Gravity Dual for High Energy Collisions. 3.Gravitationally Collapsing Shell and Quasiequilibrium

The equilibration of matter and onset of hydrodynamics can be understood in the AdS/CFT context as a gravitational collapse process, in which "collision debris" create a horizon. In this paper we consider the simplest geometry possible, a flat shell (or membrane) falling in the holographic direction toward the horizon. The metric is a combination of two well known solutions: thermal AdS above the shell and pure AdS below, while motion of the shell is given by the Israel junction condition. Furthermore, when the shell motion can be considered slow, we were able to solve for two-point functions of all boundary stress tensor and found that an observer on the boundary sees a very peculiar $quasiequilibrium$: while the average stress tensor $<T_{μν>}$ contains the equilibrium plasma energy and pressure at all times, the spectral densities of the correlators(related with occupation probabilities of the modes) reveal additional oscillating terms absent in equilibrium. This is explained by the "echo" phenomenon, a partial return of the field coherence at certain "echo" times.
