Rotating black holes at large $D$ in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory

Applying the large $D$ approach to the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory, we construct equally rotating black hole solutions in odd dimensions. This provides the first example of the analytic solutions which describes not-slowly rotating black holes. For the next-leading order solutions in the $1/D$ expansion, we discuss the physical aspects such as thermodynamics and the phase diagram.

Stable bound orbits around static Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet black holes

As is well-known, asymptotically flat, static and spherically symmetric black holes do not admit stable bound orbits of massive/massless particles outside the horizon in higher-dimensional Einstein gravity. However, for massive particles, this dramatically changes in higher curvature theories. We clarify the parameter range such that there exist stable bound orbits in $d$-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theories for $6\leq d\leq 9$. In particular, we show the existence of the lower bound of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant below which stable bound orbits cease to exist. Moreover, we also find that for AdS-black holes in the theories, there can exist two stable circular orbits outside the horizon.

Stable bound orbits in black lens backgrounds

In contrast to five-dimensional Schwarzschild-Tangherlini and Myers-Perry backgrounds, we show that there are stable bound orbits of massive/massless particles in five-dimensional black lens backgrounds, in particular, the supersymmetric black lens with $L(2,1)$ and $L(3,1)$ topologies. We also show that in the zero-energy limit of massless particles, there exist stable circular orbits on the evanescent ergosurfaces.

Gravitational two solitons in Levi-Civita spacetime

Applying the Pomeransky inverse scattering method to the four-dimensional vacuum Einstein equations and using the Levi-Civita solution as a seed, we construct a two-soliton solution with cylindrical symmetry. In our previous work, we constructed the one-soliton solution with a real pole and showed that the singularities that the Levi-Civita background has on an axis can be removed by the choice of certain special parameters, but it still has unavoidable null singularities, as usual one-solitons do. In this work, we show that for the two-soliton solutions, any singularities can be removed by suitable parameter-setting and such solutions describe the propagation of gravitational wave packets. Moreover, in terms of the two-soliton solutions, we mention a time shift phenomenon, the coalescence and the split of solitons as the nonlinear effect of gravitational waves.

Gravitational solitons in Levi-Civita spacetime

Applying the Pomeransky inverse scattering method to the four-dimensional vacuum Einstein equation and using the Levi-Civita solution for a seed, we construct a cylindrically symmetric single-soliton solution. Although the Levi-Civita spacetime generally includes singularities on its axis of symmetry, it is shown that for the obtained single-soliton solution, such singularities can be removed by choice of certain special parameters. This single-soliton solution describes propagation of nonlinear cylindrical gravitational shock wave pulses rather than solitonic waves. By analyzing wave amplitudes and time-dependence of polarization angles, we provides physical description of the single-soliton solution.

Non-linear effects for cylindrical gravitational two-soliton

Using a cylindrical soliton solution to the four-dimensional vacuum Einstein equation, we study non-linear effects of gravitational waves such as Faraday rotation and time shift phenomenon. In the previous work, we analyzed the single-soliton solution constructed by the Pomeransky's improved inverse scattering method. In this work, we construct a new two-soliton solution with complex conjugate poles, by which we can avoid light-cone singularities unavoidable in a single soliton case. In particular, we compute amplitudes of such non-linear gravitational waves and time-dependence of the polarizations. Furthermore, we consider the time shift phenomenon for soliton waves, which means that a wave packet can propagate at slower velocity than light.

New cylindrical gravitational soliton waves and gravitational Faraday rotation

In terms of gravitational solitons, we study gravitational non-linear effects of gravitational solitary waves such as Faraday rotation. Applying the Pomeransky's procedure for inverse scattering method, which has been recently used for constructing stationary black hole solutions in five dimensions to a cylindrical spacetime in four dimensions, we construct a new cylindrically symmetric soliton solution. This is the first example to be applied to the cylindrically symmetric case. In particular, we clarify the difference from the Tomimatsu's single soliton solution, which was constructed by the Belinsky-Zakharov's procedure.

"Flip" of SL(2,R)-duality in five-dimensional supergravity

The dimensional reduction of the bosonic sector of five-dimensional minimal supergravity to a Lorentzian four-dimensional spacetime leads to a theory with a massless axion and a dilaton coupled to gravity and two U(1) gauge fields and the dimensionally reduced equations of motion have SL(2,R)/SO(2)-duality invariance. In our previous work, utilizing the duality invariance, we formulated solution-generation techniques within five-dimensional minimal supergravity. In this work, by choosing a timelike Killing vector, we consider dimensional reduction to a four-dimensional Euclidean space, in which the field equations have SL(2,R)/SO(1,1) invariance. In the timelike case, we develop a new duality transformation technique, while in the spacelike case we have done that in the previous work. As an example, by applying it to the Rasheed solutions, we obtain rotating Kaluza-Klein black hole solutions in five-dimensional minimal supergravity. In general, in contrast to the spacelike case, the resulting dimensionally reduced solution includes the so-called NUT parameter and therefore from a four-dimensional point of view, such a spacetime is not asymptotically flat. However, it is shown that in some special cases, it can describe ordinary Kaluza-Klein black holes.

General Kaluza-Klein black holes with all six independent charges in five-dimensional minimal supergravity

Using the SL(2,R)-duality in a dimensionally reduced spacetime in (the bosonic sector of) five-dimensional minimal supergravity, we construct general Kaluza-Klein black hole solutions which carry six independent charges, its mass, angular momentum along four dimensions, electric and magnetic charges of the Maxwell fields in addition to Kaluza-Klein electric and magnetic monopole charges.

New approach to solution generation using SL(2,R)-duality of a dimensionally reduced space in five-dimensional minimal supergravity and new black holes

The dimensional reduction of (the bosonic sector of) five-dimensional minimal supergravity to four dimensions leads to a theory with a massless axion and a dilaton coupled to gravity and two U(1) gauge fields (one of which has Chern-Simons coupling), whose field equations have SL(2,R)-invariance. Utilizing this SL(2,R)-duality, we provide a new formalism for solution generation. As an example, applying it to the Rasheed solution, which are known to describe dyonic rotating black holes (from the four-dimensional point of view) of five-dimensional pure gravity, we obtain rotating Kaluza-Klein black hole solutions in five-dimensional minimal supergravity. We also show that the solutions have six charges: mass, angular momentum, Kaluza-Klein electric/magnetic charges and electric/magnetic charges of the Maxwell field, four of which are related by a constraint.

Uniqueness theorem for charged dipole rings in five-dimensional minimal supergravity

We show a uniqueness theorem for charged dipole rotating black rings in the bosonic sector of five-dimensional minimal supergravity, generalizing our previous work [arXiv:0901.4724] on the uniqueness of charged rotating black holes with topologically spherical horizon in the same theory. More precisely, assuming the existence of two commuting axial Killing vector fields, we prove that an asymptotically flat, stationary charged rotating black hole with non-degenerate connected event horizon of cross-section topology S^1XS^2 in the five-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory-if exists-is characterized by the mass, charge, two independent angular momenta, dipole charge, and the rod structure. As anticipated, the necessity of specifying dipole charge-which is not a conserved charge-is the new, distinguished ingredient that highlights difference between the present theorem and the corresponding theorem for vacuum case, as well as difference from the case of topologically spherical horizon within the same minimal supergravity. We also consider a similar boundary value problem for other topologically non-trivial black holes within the same theory, and find that generalizing the present uniqueness results to include black lenses-provided there exists such a solution in the theory-would not appear to be straightforward.

Uniqueness theorem for charged rotating black holes in five-dimensional minimal supergravity

We show a uniqueness theorem for charged rotating black holes in the bosonic sector of five-dimensional minimal supergravity. More precisely, under the assumptions of the existence of two commuting axial isometries and spherical topology of horizon cross-sections, we prove that an asymptotically flat, stationary charged rotating black hole with finite temperature in five-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory is uniquely characterized by the mass, charge, and two independent angular momenta and therefore is described by the five-dimensional Cvetic-Youm solution with equal charges. We also discuss a generalization of our uniqueness theorem for spherical black holes to the case of black rings.

Uniqueness theorems for Kaluza-Klein black holes in five-dimensional minimal supergravity

We show uniqueness theorems for Kaluza-Klein black holes in the bosonic sector of five-dimensional minimal supergravity. More precisely, under the assumptions of the existence of two commuting axial isometries and a non-degenerate connected event horizon of the cross section topology S^3, or lens space, we prove that a stationary charged rotating Kaluza-Klein black hole in five-dimensional minimal supergravity is uniquely characterized by its mass, two independent angular momenta, electric charge, magnetic flux and nut charge, provided that there does not exist any nuts in the domain of outer communication. We also show that under the assumptions of the same symmetry, same asymptotics and the horizon cross section of S^1\times S^2, a black ring within the same theory---if exists---is uniquely determined by its dipole charge and rod structure besides the charges and magnetic flux.

Coset for Hopf fibration and Squashing

We provide a simple derivation of metrics for fundamental geometrical deformations such as Hopf fibration, squashing and Z_k quotient which play essential roles in recent studies on the AdS4/CFT3. A general metric formula of Hopf fibrations for complex and quaternion cosets is presented. Squashing is given by a similarity transformation which changes the metric preserving the isometry symmetry of the projective space. On the other hand Z_k quotient is given as a lens space which changes the topology preserving the "local" metric.

Topology Changing Process of Coalescing Black Holes on Eguchi-Hanson Space

We numerically study the event horizons of two kinds of five-dimensional coalescing black hole solutions with different asymptotic structures: the five-dimensional Kastor-Traschen solution (5DKT) and the coalescing black hole solution on Eguchi-Hanson space (CBEH). Topologies of the spatial infinity are ${\rm S}^3$ and $L(2;1)={\rm S}^3/{\mathbb Z}_2$, respectively. We show that the crease sets of event horizons are topologically ${\rm R}^1$ in 5DKT and ${\rm R}^1\times {\rm S}^1$ in CBEH, respectively. If we choose the time slices which respect space-time symmetry, the first contact points of the coalescing process is a point in the 5DKT case but a ${\rm S}^1$ in the CBEH case. We also find that in CBEH, time slices can be chosen so that a black ring with ${\rm S}^1\times {\rm S}^2$ topology can be also formed during a certain intermediate period unlike the 5DKT.

Rotating Kaluza-Klein Multi-Black Holes with Godel Parameter

We obtain new five-dimensional supersymmetric rotating multi-Kaluza-Klein black hole solutions with the Godel parameter in the Einstein-Maxwell system with a Chern-Simons term. These solutions have no closed timelike curve outside the black hole horizons. At the infinity, the space-time is effectively four-dimensional. Each horizon admits various lens space topologies L(n;1)=S^3/Z_n in addition to a round S^3. The space-time can have outer ergoregions disjointed from the black hole horizons, as well as inner ergoregions attached to each horizon. We discuss the rich structures of ergoregions.

Boosted Black Holes on Kaluza-Klein Bubbles

We construct an exact stationary solution of black hole -- bubble sequence in the five dimensional Kaluza-Klein theory by using solitonic solution generating techniques. The solution describes two boosted black holes with topology S^3 on a Kaluza-Klein bubble and has a linear momentum component in the compactified direction. The ADM mass and the linear momentum depend on the two boosted velocity parameters of black holes. In the effective four dimensional theory, the solution has an electric charge which is proportional to the linear momentum. The solution includes the static solution found by Elvang and Horowitz and a limit of single boosted black string.
