Relativistic Nontopological Soliton Stars in a U(1) Gauge Higgs Model

We study spherically symmetric nontopological soliton stars (NTS stars) numerically in the coupled system of a complex scalar field, a U(1) gauge field, a complex Higgs scalar field, and Einstein gravity, where the symmetry is broken spontaneously. The gravitational mass of NTS stars is limited by a maximum mass for a fixed breaking scale, and the maximum mass increases steeply as the breaking scale decreases. In the case of the breaking scale is much less than the Planck scale, the maximum mass of NTS stars becomes the astrophysical scale, and such a star is relativistically compact so that it has the innermost stable circular orbit. The first author contributed with a part of numerical calculations. The second did with planning and conducting the research, and the third did with all numerical calculations and finding new properties of the system.

Inhomogeneous Generalization of Einstein's Static Universe with Sasakian Space

We construct exact static inhomogeneous solutions to Einstein's equations with counter flow of particle fluid and a positive cosmological constant by using the Sasaki metrics on three-dimensional spaces. The solutions, which admit an arbitrary function that denotes inhomogeneous number density of particles, are a generalization of Einstein's static universe. On some examples of explicit solutions, we discuss non-linear density contrast and deviation of the metric functions.

Current status of space gravitational wave antenna DECIGO and B-DECIGO

Deci-hertz Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (DECIGO) is the future Japanese space mission with a frequency band of 0.1 Hz to 10 Hz. DECIGO aims at the detection of primordial gravitational waves, which could be produced during the inflationary period right after the birth of the universe. There are many other scientific objectives of DECIGO, including the direct measurement of the acceleration of the expansion of the universe, and reliable and accurate predictions of the timing and locations of neutron star/black hole binary coalescences. DECIGO consists of four clusters of observatories placed in the heliocentric orbit. Each cluster consists of three spacecraft, which form three Fabry-Perot Michelson interferometers with an arm length of 1,000 km. Three clusters of DECIGO will be placed far from each other, and the fourth cluster will be placed in the same position as one of the three clusters to obtain the correlation signals for the detection of the primordial gravitational waves. We plan to launch B-DECIGO, which is a scientific pathfinder of DECIGO, before DECIGO in the 2030s to demonstrate the technologies required for DECIGO, as well as to obtain fruitful scientific results to further expand the multi-messenger astronomy.

Charged black strings in a five-dimensional Kasner universe

We construct time-dependent charged black string solutions in five-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell theory. In the far region, the spacetime approaches a five-dimensional Kasner universe with a expanding three-dimensional space and a shrinking extra dimension. Near the event horizon, the spacetime is approximately static and has a smooth event horizon. We also study the motion of test particles around the black string and show the existence of quasi-circular orbits. Finally, we briefly discuss the stability of this spacetime.

Orbital angular momentum of scalar field generated by gravitational scatterings

It has been expected that astronomical observations to detect the orbital angular momenta of electromagnetic waves may give us a new insight into astrophysics. Previous works pointed out the possibility that a rotating black hole can produce orbital angular momenta of electromagnetic waves through gravitational scattering, and the spin parameter of the black hole can be measured by observing them. However, the mechanism how the orbital angular momentum of the electromagnetic wave is generated by the gravitational scattering has not been clarified sufficiently. In this paper, in order to understand it from a point of view of gravitational lensing effects, we consider an emitter which radiates a spherical wave of the real massless scalar field and study the deformation of the scalar wave by the gravitational scattering due to a black hole by invoking the geometrical optics approximation. We show that the frame dragging caused by the rotating black hole is not a necessary condition for generating the orbital angular momentum of the scalar wave. However, its components parallel to the direction cosines of images appear only if the black hole is rotating.

A pair of extremal charged black holes on Kerr-Taub-bolt space

We construct asymptotically Kaluza-Klein solutions in five-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell theory which represent a pair of extremal, charged, static black holes on Kerr-Taub-bolt space. Regularity conditions require that the topology of spatial infinity and that of each black hole are not S$^3$, but different lens spaces. We show that for a given topology at spatial infinity, there are an infinite number of different horizon topologies for the black hole pair. We briefly discuss a generalization to the case with a positive cosmological constant.

A simple diagnosis of non-smoothness of black hole horizon: Curvature singularity at horizons in extremal Kaluza-Klein black holes

We propose a simple method to prove non-smoothness of a black hole horizon. The existence of a $C^1$ extension across the horizon implies that there is no $C^{N + 2}$ extension across the horizon if some components of $N$-th covariant derivative of Riemann tensor diverge at the horizon in the coordinates of the $C^1$ extension. In particular, the divergence of a component of the Riemann tensor at the horizon directly indicates the presence of a curvature singularity. By using this method, we can confirm the existence of a curvature singularity for several cases where the scalar invariants constructed from the Riemann tensor, e.g., the Ricci scalar and the Kretschmann invariant, take finite values at the horizon. As a concrete example of the application, we show that the Kaluza-Klein black holes constructed by Myers have a curvature singularity at the horizon if the spacetime dimension is higher than five.

Charged Black Holes in a Five-dimensional Kaluza-Klein Universe

We examine an exact solution which represents a charged black hole in a Kaluza-Klein universe in the five-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell theory. The spacetime approaches to the five-dimensional Kasner solution that describes expanding three dimensions and shrinking an extra dimension in the far region. The metric is continuous but not smooth at the black hole horizon. There appears a mild curvature singularity that a free-fall observer can traverse the horizon. The horizon is a squashed three-sphere with a constant size, and the metric is approximately static near the horizon.

Integrability of Particle System around a Ring Source as the Newtonian Limit of a Black Ring

The geodesic equation in the five-dimensional singly rotating black ring is non-integrable unlike the case of the Myers-Perry black hole. In the Newtonian limit of the black ring, its geodesic equation agrees with the equation of motion of a particle in the Newtonian potential due to a homogeneous ring gravitational source. In this paper, we show that the Newtonian equation of motion allows the separation of variables in the spheroidal coordinates, providing an non-trivial constant of motion quadratic in momenta. This shows that the Newtonian limit of a black ring recovers the symmetry of its geodesic system, and the geodesic chaos is caused by relativistic effects.

Membranes with a symmetry of cohomogeneity one

We study the dynamics of the Nambu-Goto membranes with cohomogeneity one symmetry, i.e., the membranes whose trajectories are foliated by homogeneous surfaces. It is shown that the equation of motion reduces to a geodesic equation on a certain manifold, which is constructed from the original spacetime and Killing vector fields thereon. A general method is presented for classifying the symmetry of cohomogeneity one membranes in a given spacetime. The classification is completely carried out in Minkowski spacetime. We analyze one of the obtained classes in depth and derive an exact solution.

Stable Bound Orbits of Massless Particles around a Black Ring

We study the geodesic motion of massless particles in singly rotating black ring spacetimes. We find stable stationary orbits of massless particles in toroidal spiral shape in the case that the thickness parameter of a black ring is less than a critical value. Furthermore, there exist nonstationary massless particles bounded in a finite region outside the horizon. This is the first example of stable bound orbits of massless particles around a black object.

Charged rotating Kaluza-Klein multi-black holes and multi-black strings in five-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell theory

We construct exact solutions, which represent regular charged rotating Kaluza-Klein multi-black holes in the five-dimensional pure Einstein-Maxwell theory. Quantization conditions between the mass, the angular momentum, and charges appear from the regularity condition of horizon. We also obtain multi-black string solutions by taking some limits in the solutions. We extend the black hole solutions to the five-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory with an arbitrary Chern-Simons coupling constant.

Extremal Charged Black Holes with a Twisted Extra Dimension

We construct odd-dimensional extremal charged black hole solutions with a twisted S^1 as an extra dimension on generalized Euclidean Taub-NUT spaces. There exists a null hypersurface where an expansion for an outgoing null geodesic congruence vanishes, then these spacetimes look like black holes. We show that the metrics admit C^0 extension across the horizon, but some components of Riemann curvature diverge there if the dimension is higher than five. The singularity is not much strong so that an observer along a free-fall geodesic can traverse the horizon. We also show solutions with a positive cosmological constant.

Kaluza-Klein vacuum multi-black holes in five-dimensions

We investigate five-dimensional vacuum solutions which represent rotating multi-black holes in asymptotically Kaluza-Klein spacetimes. We show that multi-black holes rotate maximally along extra dimension, and stationary configurations in vacuum are achieved by the balance of the gravitational attraction force and repulsive force caused by the rotations of black holes. We also show that each black hole can have the different topology of the lens space in addition to the spherical topology, and mass of black holes are quantized by the size of extra dimension and horizon topology.

Stationary Closed Strings in Five-dimensional Flat Spacetime

We investigate stationary rotating closed Nambu-Goto strings in five-dimensional flat spacetime. The stationary string is defined as a worldsheet that is tangent to a timelike Killing vector. Nambu-Goto equation of motion for the stationary string is reduces to the geodesic equation on the orbit space of the isometry group action generated by the Killing vector. We take a linear combination of a time-translation vector and space-rotation vectors as the Killing vector, and explicitly construct general solutions of stationary rotating closed strings in five-dimensional flat spacetime. We show a variety of their configurations and properties.

Q-tubes and Q-crusts

We explore equilibrium solutions of non-topological solitons in a general class of scalar field theories which include global U(1) symmetry. We find new types of solutions, tube-shaped and crust-shaped objects, and investigate their stability. Like Q-balls, the new solitons can exist in supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model, which may responsible for baryon asymmetry and dark matter. Therefore, observational signals of the new solitons would give us more informations on the early universe and supersymmetric theories.

Constants of Motion for Constrained Hamiltonian Systems: A Particle around a Charged Rotating Black Hole

We discuss constants of motion of a particle under an external field in a curved spacetime, taking into account the Hamiltonian constraint which arises from reparametrization invariance of the particle orbit. As the necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a constant of motion, we obtain a set of equations with a hierarchical structure, which is understood as a generalization of the Killing tensor equation. It is also a generalization of the conventional argument in that it includes the case when the conservation condition holds only on the constraint surface in the phase space. In that case, it is shown that the constant of motion is associated with a conformal Killing tensor. We apply the hierarchical equations and find constants of motion in the case of a charged particle in an electro-magnetic field in black hole spacetimes. We also demonstrate that gravitational and electro-magnetic fields exist in which a charged particle has a constant of motion associated with a conformal Killing tensor.

Exactly solvable strings in Minkowski spacetime

We study the integrability of the equations of motion for the Nambu-Goto strings with a cohomogeneity-one symmetry in Minkowski spacetime. A cohomogeneity-one string has a world surface which is tangent to a Killing vector field. By virtue of the Killing vector, the equations of motion can be reduced to the geodesic equation in the orbit space. Cohomogeneity-one strings are classified into seven classes (Types I to VII). We investigate the integrability of the geodesic equations for all the classes and find that the geodesic equations are integrable. For Types I to VI, the integrability comes from the existence of Killing vectors on the orbit space which are the projections of Killing vectors on Minkowski spacetime. For Type VII, the integrability is related to a projected Killing vector and a nontrivial Killing tensor on the orbit space. We also find that the geodesic equations of all types are exactly solvable, and show the solutions.

Hoop Conjecture and the Horizon Formation Cross-Section in Kaluza-Klein Spacetimes

We analyze momentarily static initial data sets of the gravitational field produced by two-point sources in five-dimensional Kaluza-Klein spacetimes. These initial data sets are characterized by the mass, the separation of sources and the size of a extra dimension. Using these initial data sets, we discuss the condition for black hole formation, and propose a new conjecture which is a hybrid of the four-dimensional hoop conjecture and the five-dimensional hyperhoop conjecture. By using the new conjecture, we estimate the cross section of black hole formation due to collisions of particles in Kaluza-Klein spacetimes. We show that the mass dependence of the cross section gives us information about the size and the number of the compactified extra dimensions.

Particle creation in Bose--Einstein condensates: Theoretical formulation based on conserving gapless mean field theory

We formulate particle creation phenomena in Bose--Einstein condensates in terms of conserving gapless mean field theory for weakly interacting Bose gases. The particle creation spectrum is calculated by rediagonalizing the Bogoliubov--de Gennes (BdG) Hamiltonian in mean field theory. The conservation implies that quasiparticle creation is accompanied by quantum backreaction to the condensates. Particle creation in this mean field theory is found to be equivalent to that in quantum field theory (QFT) in curved spacetime. An expression is obtained for an effective metric affected by quantum backreaction. The formula for the particle creation spectrum obtained in terms of QFT in curved spacetime is shown to be the same as that given by rediagonalizing the BdG Hamiltonian.

Perturbative Analysis of a Stationary Magnetosphere in an Extreme Black Hole Spacetime : On the Meissner-like Effect of an Extreme Black Hole

It is known that the Meissner-like effect is seen in a magnetosphere without an electric current in black hole spacetime: no non-monopole component of magnetic flux penetrates the event horizon if the black hole is extreme. In this paper, in order to see how an electric current affects the Meissner-like effect, we study a force-free electromagnetic system in a static and spherically symmetric extreme black hole spacetime. By assuming that the rotational angular velocity of the magnetic field is very small, we construct a perturbative solution for the Grad-Shafranov equation, which is the basic equation to determine a stationary, axisymmetric electromagnetic field with a force-free electric current. Our perturbation analysis reveals that, if an electric current exists, higher multipole components may be superposed upon the monopole component on the event horizon, even if the black hole is extreme.

Toroidal Spiral Strings in Higher-dimensional Spacetime

We report on our progress in research of separability of the Nambu-Goto equation for test strings with a symmetric configuration in a shape of toroidal spiral in a five-dimensional Kerr-AdS black hole. In particular, for a Hopf loop string which is a special class of the toroidal spirals, we show the complete separation of variables occurs in two cases, Kerr background and Kerr-AdS background with equal angular momenta. We also obtain the dynamical solution for the Hopf loop around a black hole and for the general toroidal spiral in Minkowski background.

We also obtain the dynamical solution for the Hopf loop around a black hole and for the general toroidal spiral in Minkowski background.

Spacetime analogue of Bose-Einstein condensates: Bogoliubov-de Gennes formulation

We construct quantum field theory in an analogue curved spacetime in Bose-Einstein condensates based on the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations, by exactly relating quantum particles in curved spacetime with Bogoliubov quasiparticle excitations in Bose-Einstein condensates. Here, we derive a simple formula relating the two, which can be used to calculate the particle creation spectrum by solving the time-dependent Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations. Using our formulation, we numerically investigate particle creation in an analogue expanding Universe which can be expressed as Bogoliubov quasiparticles in an expanding Bose-Einstein condensate. We obtain its spectrum, which follows the thermal Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution, the temperature of which is experimentally attainable. Our derivation of the analogy is useful for general Bose-Einstein condensates and not limited to homogeneous ones, and our simulation is the first example of particle creations by solving the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation in an inhomogeneous condensate.

Topology Changing Process of Coalescing Black Holes on Eguchi-Hanson Space

We numerically study the event horizons of two kinds of five-dimensional coalescing black hole solutions with different asymptotic structures: the five-dimensional Kastor-Traschen solution (5DKT) and the coalescing black hole solution on Eguchi-Hanson space (CBEH). Topologies of the spatial infinity are ${\rm S}^3$ and $L(2;1)={\rm S}^3/{\mathbb Z}_2$, respectively. We show that the crease sets of event horizons are topologically ${\rm R}^1$ in 5DKT and ${\rm R}^1\times {\rm S}^1$ in CBEH, respectively. If we choose the time slices which respect space-time symmetry, the first contact points of the coalescing process is a point in the 5DKT case but a ${\rm S}^1$ in the CBEH case. We also find that in CBEH, time slices can be chosen so that a black ring with ${\rm S}^1\times {\rm S}^2$ topology can be also formed during a certain intermediate period unlike the 5DKT.

In particular, we show that stationary toroidal spirals exist around the five-dimensional Myers-Perry black holes. We also show the existence of innermost stationary toroidal spirals around the five-dimensional black holes like geodesic particles orbiting around four-dimensional black holes.

Rotating Kaluza-Klein Multi-Black Holes with Godel Parameter

We obtain new five-dimensional supersymmetric rotating multi-Kaluza-Klein black hole solutions with the Godel parameter in the Einstein-Maxwell system with a Chern-Simons term. These solutions have no closed timelike curve outside the black hole horizons. At the infinity, the space-time is effectively four-dimensional. Each horizon admits various lens space topologies L(n;1)=S^3/Z_n in addition to a round S^3. The space-time can have outer ergoregions disjointed from the black hole horizons, as well as inner ergoregions attached to each horizon. We discuss the rich structures of ergoregions.

Classification of Cohomogeneity One Strings

We define the cohomogeneity one string, string with continuous symmetries, as its world surface is tangent to a Killing vector field of a target space. We classify the Killing vector fields by an equivalence relation using isometries of the target space. We find that the equivalence classes of Killing vectors in Minkowski spacetime are partitioned into seven families. It is clarified that there exist seven types of strings with spacelike symmetries and four types of strings with timelike symmetries, stationary strings.

Does a domain wall emit gravitational waves? -- General-relativistic perturbative treatment

The behavior of gravitational wave perturbations on a locally Minkowskian spacetime background containing a planar domain wall is investigated in the gauge-invariant general relativistic framework. It is shown that for this particular background the domain wall does not emit gravitational waves spontaneously by its free oscillation in the first order, although it scatters incidental gravitational waves.
