On the sectional genera and Cohen-Macaulay rings

We explore the behavior of the sectional genera of certain primary ideals in Noetherian local rings. In this paper, we provide characterizations of a Cohen-Macaulay local ring in terms of the sectional genera, the Cohen-Macaulay type, and the second Hilbert coefficients for certain primary ideals. We also characterize Gorenstein rings and quasi-Buchsbaum rings in terms of the sectional genera for certain primary ideals.

The reduction number of canonical ideals

In this paper, we introduce an invariant of Cohen-Macaulay local rings in terms of the reduction number of canonical ideals. The invariant can be defined in arbitrary Cohen-Macaulay rings and it measures how close to being Gorenstein. First, we clarify the relation between almost Gorenstein rings and nearly Gorenstein rings by using the invariant in dimension one. We next characterize the idealization of trace ideals over Gorenstein rings in terms of the invariant. It provides better prospects for a result of the almost Gorenstein property of idealization.

The set of trace ideals of curve singularities

This paper mainly focuses on commutative local domains of dimension one. We then obtain a criterion for a ring to have a finite number of trace ideals in terms of integrally closed ideals. We also explore properties of such rings related to birational extensions, reflexive ideals, and reflexive Ulrich modules. Special attention is given in the case of numerical semigroup rings of non-gap four. We then obtain a criterion for a ring to have a finite number of reflexive ideals up to isomorphism. Non-domains arising from fiber products are also explored.

Certain monomial ideals whose numbers of generators of powers descend

This paper studies the numbers of minimal generators of powers of monomial ideals in polynomial rings. For a monomial ideal $I$ in two variables, Eliahou, Herzog, and Saem gave a sharp lower bound $μ(I^2)\ge 9$ for the number of minimal generators of $I^2$ with $μ(I)\geq 6$. Recently, Gasanova constructed monomial ideals such that $μ(I)>μ(I^n)$ for any positive integer $n$. In reference to them, we construct a certain class of monomial ideals such that $μ(I)>μ(I^2)>\cdots >μ(I^n)=(n+1)^2$ for any positive integer $n$, which provides one of the most unexpected behaviors of the function $μ(I^k)$. The monomial ideals also give a peculiar example such that the Cohen-Macaulay type (or the index of irreducibility) of $R/I^n$ descends.

Graded Bourbaki ideals of graded modules

In this paper we study graded Bourbaki ideals. It is a well-known fact that for torsionfree modules over Noetherian normal domains, Bourbaki sequences exist. We give criteria in terms of certain attached matrices for a homomorphism of modules to induce a Bourbaki sequence. Special attention is given to graded Bourbaki sequences. In the second part of the paper, we apply these results to the Koszul cycles of the residue class field and determine particular Bourbaki ideals explicitly. We also obtain in a special case the relationship between the structure of the Rees algebra of a Koszul cycle and the Rees algebra of its Bourbaki ideal.

Ideals of reduction number two

In a local Cohen-Macaulay ring $(A, \mathrm{m})$, we study the Hilbert function of an $\mathrm{m}$-primary ideal $I$ whose reduction number is two. It is a continuous work of the papers of Huneke, Ooishi, Sally, and Goto-Nishida-Ozeki. With some conditions, we show the inequality $\mathrm{e}_1(I)\ge \mathrm{e}_0(I) - \ell_A (A/I) + \mathrm{e}_2(I)$ of the Hilbert coefficients, which is the converse inequality of Sally and Itoh. We also study relations between the Hilbert coefficients and the depth of the associated graded ring.

Reducibility index and sum-reducibility index

Let $R$ be a Noetherian ring. For a finitely generated $R$-module $M$, Northcott introduced the reducibility index of $M$, which is the number of submodules appearing in an irredundant irreducible decomposition of the submodule $0$ in $M$. On the other hand, for an Artinian $R$-module $A$, Macdonald proved that the number of sum-irreducible submodules appearing in an irredundant sum-irreducible representation of $A$ does not depend on the choice of the representation. This number is called the sum-reducibility index of $A$. In the former part of this paper, we compute the reducibility index of $S\otimes_R M$, where $R\to S$ is a flat homomorphism of Noetherian rings. Especially, the localization, the polynomial extension, and the completion of $R$ are studied. For the latter part of this paper, we clarify the relation among the reducibility index of $M$, that of the completion of $M$, and the sum-reducibility index of the Matlis dual of $M$.
